LeGrand Joins Team Fight to Walk!‏

Eric LeGrand is the newest member of Team Fight to Walk.
Created in 2011 by boxer and West Point graduate Captain Boyd “Rainmaker” Melson, Team Fight to Walk’s goal is to raise awareness within the boxing community as well as the entire nation about the importance of bringing Clinical Trials to the United States to help cure Spinal Cord Injuries. In association with Team Fight to Walk, Melson, who has a record of 8-1 with 4 knockouts, donates all of his fight purses to Justadollarplease.org to help support the trial.
A New Jersey native, LeGrand was one of the Garden State's top recruits and earned a scholarship to play football at Rutgers in the fall of 2008. On October 16, 2010, the 6’2 275 lb Avenel native severely injured his spinal cord while attempting to tackle Malcolm Brown of Army. The two violently collided and LeGrand remained on the ground for more than three minutes before medical personnel took him off the field.
LeGrand was transported to the ICU at Hackensack University Medical Center, where doctors determined he was a quadriplegic. Doctors told him that every day would be a severe struggle but LeGrand refused to give up. Within three months, LeGrand was able to move his shoulders and felt sensation throughout his body. In July 2011, after working tirelessly during rehabilitation sessions, LeGrand stood upright with the aid of a walker.
Later that year, LeGrand led Rutgers onto the field prior to their game against West Virginia. Sports Illustrated readers voted the best moment in 2011. On May 2, 2012, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, now coached by former Rutgers head coach Greg Schiano, signed the courageous 21-year-old to an honorary contract.
"I’m very happy to be a part of the team and a part of the journey to find a cure for spinal cord injuries,” stated LeGrand. “Everything happens for a reason and miracles happen every day.”
“Eric is the ultimate fighter,” said Melson, who is connected to LeGrand through Dr. Patricia Morton and the Rutgers Foundation. “My best friend Christan Zaccagnino was paralyzed in a diving accident when she was a child and I’ve spent countless hours with her, so I truly understand what Eric goes through to the best of my ability without actually being in a wheelchair myself. He’s an inspiration to people from all walks of life and his inner-strength is unbelievable. We’ve received an excellent response from the boxing community and our roster of fighters supporting the cause continues to grow, but Eric’s presence will help us reach new heights!”
LeGrand will be honored for his courageousness July 11 at the ESPY Awards in Los Angeles and Melson’s next bout is tentatively scheduled for August in New York City.
In addition to LeGrand and Melson, Team Fight to Walk is comprised of former two-time cruiserweight champion Steve “USS” Cunningham, title contender DeAndre “The Bull” Latimore, Edgar “El Chamaco” Santana, Hector “Machito” Camacho Jr., 2008 US Olympians Demetrius “Boo” Andrade and Shawn Estrada along with prospects Sid “The Messenger” El Harrak, Denis “Da Momma’s Boy” Douglin, Will “Power” Rosinsky, Floriano “Italiano” Pagliara, Danny “Little Mac” McDermott, Vinny “The Lion” O’Brien, Ahmed “Prince of Egypt” Samir and Delen “Sniper” Parsley.

JR. WELTERWEIGHT CONTENDER EDGAR SANTANA SIGNS WITH FISTICUFFS PROMOTIONS

Fisticuffs promotions announced the signing of Jr. Welterweight contender Edgar “El Chamaco” Santana to a promotional contract.

Santana of Bronx, New York has a record of 25-3 with sixteen knockouts and has won four straight which is over a four year span.

Santana, thirty-two years old, turned pro in 1999 and went on to win twenty-one of his first twenty three bouts which included big victories over Francisco Campos (20-5-1); Meacher Major (12-2-1); Dairo Esales (30-6); Mike Gonzalez (10-2-1) and a career best victory over Josesito Lopez (22-2) in a bout that headlined a SHO BOX card on April 11, 2008.

Santana took a three year hiatus due to legal problems and with those out of the way, Santana is right back on the track to capturing a world title.

Santana returned to the ring with an explosive second round knockout over Robert Jones on May 5, 2011.

That win was especially impressive considering Jones was never stopped in his seventeen bouts.

Santana is one of the most popular ticket sellers in the competitive New York market and he owns and operates a popular Barber Shop in his native Spanish Harlem.

“Edgar Santana has always been one of the best prospects on the East Coast and I am happy we were able to work out a deal”, said Dave Escalet of Fisticuffs Promotions.

“Despite having that layoff, we feel that he is only a couple fights away from a significant fight that will put him in position for a world title. He showed in his last fight that he is a force to be reckoned with and we plan to make those important fights happen for him”

Santana will be fighting for NABA Jr. Welterweight title on August 19th at Dover Downs in Dover, Delaware.

“The NABA title will get him in the rankings and he will be right there knocking on the door after he wins the fight”, continued Escalet.

“I am happy to make a deal with Fisticuffs”, said Santana’s manager Brian Cohen.

“We already have this big fight lined up so it’s only a matter of staying busy and Edgar will be fighting for the title”

Major to Face Clark for NABA Belt

WBA NABA Lightweight Championship on the line in Buffalo, June 19
Beatdown PosterPromoter Nick Garone and X-Cel Worldwide have put together an enticing championship bout for their "Buffalo Beatdown" show on June 19 at the Buffalo Niagara Convention Center in Buffalo, New York.

All-action lightweight Meacher Major "Pain" of the Bahamas will face Columbus, Ohio's Michael "Cold Blood" Clark (38-5-1, 18 KOs) in a 10-round battle for the vacant NABA Lightweight Championship.

Major turned himself into an instant fan favorite in Buffalo last February by becoming the first man to stop super-durable veteran Kevin Carmody in an exciting shootout. The skilful Clark has been on the cusp of a world title fight in the past and already fought to a draw for the same NABA belt in 2008.

Garone says although Clark is a dangerous opponent, he believes 27-year-old Major has the tools to become a world champion. "I don't feel like Meacher was brought along properly in the past. He's got a ton of potential. His losses are to Edner Cherry (via split decision), Lamont Peterson and Edgar Santana and they're all good fighters. And now that he's got proper training facilities and sparring, he's going to make a real dent in this division. I have enough confidence in Meacher to be putting him in with a world-class guy like Clark, so what's that tell you?"

At stake for both fighters will be the WBA's North American Championship and a bump up to the top-10 of their world rankings.

Also featured at the "Buffalo Beatdown" will be popular Niagara Falls, New York, super lightweight Nick "Hands of Gold" Casal (18-4-1, 14 KOs) in a 10-round match-up. On the undercard, Rochester super lightweight Kenny Abril, Buffalo light heavyweight Lionel Thompson and Buffalo heavyweight Excell Holmes (pro debut) will see action.

Garone brought professional boxing back to Downtown Buffalo for the first time in six years last February with a show that was surprisingly well attended and very well received by fans. The "Buffalo Beatdown" will be his third professional boxing show in Western New York in less than a year. "I know Buffalo loves boxing, so we're going to give them the world-class shows they deserve."

All undercard opponents for the "Buffalo Beatdown are, thus far, TBA.

See you at the Fights.
Thanks for your time.

BROADWAY BOXING RETURNS OCTOBER 22; Edgar Santana versus Luis Rodriguez, Randall Bailey battles Kpakop Allotey

***Edgar Santana versus Luis Rodriguez in Jr. Welterweight Main Event, Plus Former World Champion Randall Bailey at BB King Blues Club; Card Will Support Breast Cancer Awareness Month***

New York – DiBella Entertainment’s Broadway Boxing series returns to New York City on Wednesday, October 22 at BB King Blues Club in Times Square. In the ten-round main event, local favorite Edgar Santana, from Spanish Harlem, takes on Monterrey, Mexico’s Luis Rodriguez, and former WBO world champion Randall Bailey battles Kpakop Allotey.

Originally from Manati, Puerto Rico, the ever-popular Santana (25-3, 15 KOs), a winner of 18 out of 19 bouts over the last five years, is poised to become a world-rated contender, but must first overcome the formidable Rodriguez (22-2, 13 KOs), who has won seven out of eight and made a strong showing during a points defeat to Francisco Figueroa in a bid for the NABF belt on May 14 in NYC.

Former WBO junior welterweight world champion Bailey (37-6, 34 KOs) from Miami, Florida, continues to be one of the most feared punchers in the 140 pound division – having iced Anthony Mora to pick up the vacant WBC Latino jr. welterweight title in January and scoring a first-round knockout over Dario Esalas on the last Broadway Boxing card at BB King Blues Club on August 6th. The 34-year-old Bailey will take on Silver Spring, Maryland’s Allotey (14-5, 12 KOs) in a ten rounder. Of Ghanaian descent, Allotey arrives with extensive big fight experience, having just won the vacant WBA Pan African lightweight belt via TKO 5 over Gabriel Phakula on August 4 in Accra, Ghana.

Also on the October 22 show, Staten Island’s Gary Stark Jr. returns to action for the first time since avenging a May 2007 loss to Andres Ledesma by unanimously outpointing Ledesma at Manhattan’s Hammerstein Ballroom on March 5. Stark Jr. (21-2, 8 KOs) will be in ten-round junior featherweight action.

In addition, two-time NY Golden Gloves champion and 2008 National Golden Gloves champion Tor Hamer, a recent Penn State graduate, will make his pro debut at heavyweight versus Joe Rabotte (2-3, 1 KO). Hamer is one of the newest members of the DBE team.

Rounding out the seven bout card will be light heavyweight Will Rosinsky (1-0, 1 KO) from Queens; Brooklyn’s Philip Jackson Benson in a middleweight pro debut versus Robert Harris from Youngstown, Ohio; and super middleweight Hajra Sujak (1-0) from the Bronx.

DiBella Entertainmnet is partnering with Everlast for Breast Cancer Awareness month. “DBE is happy to support the effort to find a cure for breast cancer. I’ve been personally touched by this disease. My sister is a breast cancer survivor,” said DBE president Lou DiBella.

DiBella Entertainment and Everlast are both proud to support the Breast Cancer Research Foundation who is committed through research to finding a cure for breast cancer in our lifetime. To support this initiative and promote awareness, Everlast will display a pink canvas and corner cushions at the event and every fighter on the card will be outfitted in Pink Everlast Pro Fight Gloves.

Tickets for Broadway Boxing priced at $200 (VIP Table), $150 (ringside table, ringside seats), $100 (floor tables, floor seats, stage seats), $70 (general admission) are currently on sale. They are available by calling DiBella Entertainment at (212) 947-2577. For more information on Broadway Boxing, please visit DiBella entertainment on the web at www.dbe1.com.

BB King Blues Club & Grill is located at B.B. King Blues Club & Grill, 237 West 42 Street in New York City.

Message from Team Edgar Santana...‏

Due to recent rumblings regarding MSG being a potential venue for a September 20th Roy Jones - Joe Calzaghe showdown and Dmitry Salita joining Jones’ Square Ring promotional company, Team Santana has instructed promoter Lou DiBella to reach out to Square Ring and make a Santana – Salita fight.

Santana – Salita is a fight people want to see and would no doubt be a commercial success. We sincerely hope that Jones - Calzaghe comes to NYC. Roy Jones is an active legend and it would be an honor for Edgar Santana to be on a Roy Jones undercard. We can make MSG buzz with further excitement by taking on Salita. We are eagerly waiting to see if Lou Dibella can strike the deal. Once the fight is made the NY Puerto Rican community will come out in mass to buy tickets.

Edgar Santana is ready, willing and able !!
