TIMOTHY BRADLEY-LAMONT PETERSON DEC. 12 on SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING‏

Photo credit: Carlos Baeza / Thompson Boxing Promotions

TIMOTHY BRADLEY

“The real reason I didn’t want to take this fight is to be honest there is no big money involved. I’m looking to make some big money and I want the bigger money fights. At this point in my career each fight is critical. A loss to Lamont Peterson and my career is down the toilet. Every fight is critical. I’ll take on any and all challengers as long as the money is there. That’s all I’m worried about.

“But I want also want to keep my WBO title. I love my WBO title and that’s why I have to go through guys like Lamont Peterson to keep my title and to get the bigger fights maybe next year.

“The promoters know I’ll fight anyone. When I fought Edner Cherry I fought another world champion. Most fighters won’t do that. Once they get in the Top 10 they don’t want to fight anyone.

“I know Lamont and I know his story and I know he’s from the streets and tough and that this is his defining moment. It’s kind of like when I went over to England and fought for the world title and I wasn’t going to take no for an answer. I’ve got a lot to lose by taking this fight and he’s got everything to gain. I know that. It’s a major, major fight for both of us.

“I just have to keep winning, that’s all. Knockout or no knockout I have to win. I pray every day for a knockout in front of my hometown crowd.

“The first fight here was amazing. I know the crowd will be electrifying and will come out and support me again.

“I’m so happy to be fighting on SHOWTIME. The bottom line is they have the most competitive fights.”

LAMONT PETERSON

“You’ve got two young undefeated fighters going at each other so I know it’s going to be a great fight.

“I was actually here for Timothy’s last fight and I couldn’t believe Nate Campbell quit like that. As a fighter I don’t care if your toe comes off you or one of your hands comes off it’s your responsibility to fight while you’re in there. It’s up to the referee or the guy in your corner to stop the fight and not you. You’re supposed to fight no matter what the circumstance.

“I don’t care that he’s fighting at home. Whatever happens in the ring will happen in the ring. I can’t change a decision but I can control the things that happen in the ring and that’s all I can do. That’s all I can worry about and that’s all I can control.

“If I stick to my game plan it will be a good fight so I don’t really have to worry about putting on a good show for the fans or SHOWTIME. Timothy throws a lot of punches and I throw a good amount of punches so when there are a lot of punches thrown you’re going to be assured of a good fight.”

See you at the Fights.
Thank You for your time.

X-Cel Worldwide/Top Rank Partner up for Heavyweight Heavy Hitters‏

The promoter leading a revival of Western New York boxing, Nick Garone of X-Cel Worldwide, is announcing yet another eye-catching world-class event.

On December 3 at the Blue Cross Arena in Rochester, New York, Garone will present "Night of the Heavy Hitters" (in association with Bob Arum's Top "Rank) featuring former undisputed and two-time heavyweight champion Hasim "The Rock" Rahman (45-7-2, 36 KOs) in the main event, with former #1 heavyweight contender and world title challenger "Big" Michael Grant (45-3, 33 KOs) in the chief supporting bout

"It's going to be a great night for boxing fans in the Rochester area," said an excited Garone. "We're doing this in conjunction with another elite organization in Bob Arum's Top Rank, so you know it's going to be a top-quality show. Besides the two big heavyweight battles, we've also got local kids Kenny Abril and Darnell Jiles Jr. in separate bouts."

Grant, who fights under the X-Cel promotional banner, says he's excited about the opportunity this fight will present. "I'm looking to hit the ground running for a big fight in 2010," he explained. Grant is riding a seven-fight winning streak. He won the NABA-US Heavyweight Championship with a hard-fought win over Paul Marinaccio in his last bout.

"Michael is looking sharp and ready to get back into title contention," said Grant's promoter Garone. "He's been feeling so good in the gym he told me he'd like it if he was the one facing Rahman that night. This is a great area for boxing, so who knows? Maybe when people see the size of these two guys and how strong they are, they'll demand we set up a showdown between them in the future."

Longtime top contender Rahman (45-7-2, 36 KOs) will be making his first appearance since losing a world title challenge to Wladimir Klitschko last December.

Rochester-based fighters are also well represented on this show, as super lightweights Kenny Abril and Darnell Jiles Jr., as well as super welterweight Russell Jordan are all slated for action. Undefeated Albany, New York, heavyweight Kimdo Bethel is also scheduled to appear.

Tickets are available at the Blue Cross Arena, Ticketmaster, the Mt. Hope Family Diner and all Chester Check Cashing locations. They are priced at $25, $35, $50 and $100 ringside.See you at the Fights.

Exciting Heavyweight Bout Added To December 5 Boardwalk Hall WILLIAMS vs. MARTINEZ Main Event “REAL CHAMPIONS”

Los Angeles, CA– On Saturday night December 5th, in the main event at Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall, Three-time World Champion Paul Williams, the “Most Feared Fighter in the World,” will face his latest challenge, this coming from WBC Super Middleweight Champion Sergio Martinez, in a scheduled 12-round middleweight bout. In the 10-round co-featured bout, Cristobal Arreola will see his first action since a courageous loss at the hands of WBC heavyweight Champion Vitali Klitschko, when he battles bruiser Brian Minto.

Williams (37-1, 27 KO), born in Aiken, SC, living in Augusta, GA, and training in Washington, DC, started his World Championship rein in 2007 by defeating Antonio Margarito for his Welterweight Championship. Not finding additional willing challenges at welterweight, Williams moved to super welterweight and beat then-champion Verno Phillips. Once again saddled without a line of waiting challengers, Williams moved up again, to middleweight, to challenge two-time world champion “Winky” Wright. Williams thoroughly defeated Wright to establish himself as a modern day Henry Armstrong, willing to take on the toughest challenges in any weight-class. The three-time world champion had planned to battle WBC/WBO middleweight world champion Kelly Pavlik next, but unfortunately for Williams, twice those bouts were cancelled when Pavlik pulled out.

BERNARD HOPKINS RETURNS TO FIGHT IN PHILADELPHIA FOR "BROAD STREET BRAWL" ON DEC. 2‏

"Broad Street Brawl": Hopkins vs. Ornelas, a 12-round light heavyweight bout which is presented by Golden Boy Promotions East and sponsored by MGM Grand in Las Vegas will be televised live on VERSUS beginning at 8 p.m. ET/PT. Doors open at 5 p.m. and the first bell rings at 6 p.m. ET.

A man who needs no introduction to fight fans, Philadelphia native Bernard "The Executioner" Hopkins (49-5-1, 32 KO's) already assured himself a spot in the boxing Hall of Fame with his more than 10-year reign as champion atop the middleweight division with a record 20 successful title defenses.

BERNARD HOPKINS:
"This guy (Enrique Ornelas) is not a cream puff. This guy is not anyone that you pick for a tune-up or a softy. Enrique and his brother are well respected and have given everyone they fought a fight, win lose or draw. That's the type of guy I am, I duck no one. I take no one lightly. Again, I didn't want to be a part of the matchmaking part. A fight is a fight, no matter if you're in Vegas or you're in Philadelphia.

"I'm feeling good. I've trained a little bit more reserved because when you're young, you have a lot more energy. I know the media is trying to figure out when the hell this guy is going to look like he's 45. I have a future, even at 44.

"Anything is possible. Never rule anything out for me. People have ruled me out a lot in my life, and that's been my biggest motivation. December 2 starts a marathon for me, a marathon of super greatness."

Hard-hitting, Enrique Ornelas (29-5, 19 KO's) has emerged from the shadow of his older brother, super middleweight contender Librado Andrade, and carved out his own niche in the fight game with his aggressive style and fight-ending power.

ENRIQUE ORNELAS:

"I really don't feel like it's his (Bernard Hopkins') backyard. Once we're in the ring, it's something that we both do. I know I'm fighting in his city, and I know that I'm going to have less of the crowd going for me, but it's just all the better. It makes you push harder and just show the people that I really do want to fight. I'm there to fight. It's what I love to do and I just want to prove it.

"We just have to stay busy and try to find anything that he can give us. He's seen it all, so we really can't show him anything different. We just have to be ready and take the opportunities every time he gives them to us."
See you at the Fights.

‘David vs. Goliath’ PPV Boxing‘Russian Giant’ vs. ‘The Hayemaker’ For the WBA Heavyweight Championship Integrated Sports Distributing Nov. 7 card live

HOBOKEN, N.J.– North American boxing fans can view the much-anticipated “David vs. Goliath” World Boxing Association heavyweight championship boxing match between Nikolai “The Russian Giant” Valuev and David “The Hayemaker” Haye, live on Pay-Per-View on Saturday, Nov. 7 from Nuremberg, Germany.

Valuev (50-1, 34 KOs), from St. Petersburg, Russia, is the two-time and current WBA heavyweight champion and has fought and defeated a “Who’s Who” of heavyweight champions including Evander “The Real Deal Holyfield, John Ruiz (twice), and Sergey Lyakhovich. He also holds the distinction of being the tallest and heaviest champion in history at a daunting 7 feet and 325 pounds.

Haye, (22-1, 21 KOs), from London, England, wreaked havoc on the cruiserweight division with a knockout percentage over 90 percent. He left the division last year to move up to heavyweight, while still on top as the unified WBA/WBC/WBO cruiserweight champion.

The question to be answered is will the smaller yet faster Haye bring his explosiveness to the heavyweight division against an opponent he will be giving away 9 inches in height and about 100 pounds in weight to. Many boxing experts thing Haye has the perfect skill set of speed and power to frustrate the bigger and taller champion. Valuev claims he has faced and defeated numerous fighters with superior speed.

Valuev-Haye is promoted by Wilfried Sauerland’s Sauerland Event and its Managing Director, Christian Meyer, in association with Don King Productions. The broadcast is being distributed by Integrated Sports in the United States by Integrated Sports for live viewing at 3 PM/ET – 12 PM/PT on both cable and satellite pay-per-view via iN Demand, DIRECTV, TVN, Viewer’s Choice and Bell TV for a suggested retail price of only $24.95. A replay will be shown that same night at 9 PM/ET, 6 PM/PT.

Legendary promoter Don King co-promotes Valuev with Sauerland Event.

“Nikolai Valuev is a giant of a man with a giant heart,” King said. “He’s philosophical and intuitive inside and outside the ring.

“David Haye is new to the heavyweights, and Niko is a veteran world champion. I hope the Brit knows what he’s getting into as my man has proven time and again that size and talent rule the day in the heavyweight division.”

Valuev captured the WBA title by defeating John Ruiz in 2005 and made numerous successful defenses before suffering the sole loss of his career in a razor-thin, disputed majority decision at the hands of Ruslan Chagaev in 2007.

After Valuev earned the right to a re-match with Chagaev, a series of medical problems caused Chagaev to be stripped of the title. In the end, Valuev’s win in a re-match with Ruiz last year resulted in him becoming WBA champion for a second time.

“The Hayemaker” has beaten four world cruiserweight champions: Enzo Maccarinelli (TKO1) for the WBA/WBC/WBO crowns, Jean Marc Mormeck (TKO7) for the WBC/WBA championships, Giacobbe Fragomeni (TKO9) for the European title and “King” Arthur Williams (TKO3). Haye’s only pro loss was 13 fights ago to Carl Thompson (TKO5) in 2004.

“We are excited to be distributing this great heavyweight title fight between the 7-foot ‘Russian Giant,’ Nicolai Valuev, and the charismatic David Haye,” Integrated Sports president Doug Jacobs said. “North American fight fans want to see more of the spectacle, Valuev, and they wonder if Haye can back-up what he’s been saying. This is a true David versus Goliath match-up in every sense. Strong supporting bouts also airing on this pay-per-view card will soon be announced.”

See you at the Fights.

“The Hayemaker” ready to slay “The Russian Giant” in Saturday’s WBA Heavyweight Title Fight David vs. Goliath” PPV card live from Germany

HOBOKEN, N.J. A brash, confident David “The Haymaker” Haye is going for a knockout Saturday against 2-time and reigning World Boxing Association heavyweight champion Nikolai “The Russian Giant” Valuev in their 12-round title fight headlining the “David vs. Goliath” Pay-Per-View event being shown in North American live from Nuremberg, Germany.

Haye, (22-1, 21 KOs), from London, ruled the cruiserweight division as unified champion – defeating world champions Enzo Maccarinelli, Jean Marc Mormeck, Giacobbe Fragomeni and “King” Arthur Williams – before moving up to the heavyweight division a year ago.

“I’ll go out there and look to knock Valuev clean out,” the outspoken Haye didn’t pull any punches. “That’s the way I want to win every fight and this fight is not going to be any different. I’ll become the new WBA world heavyweight champion on November 7. I’ll do it with speed. Fast, explosive movements and clever movements are the way to beat Valuev. Ruslan Chagaev outpointed him simply by being the cleverer and slicker fighter. He moved when he had to and he threw shot when he had to. I’m quicker and more explosive than Chagaev.”

Valuev-Haye is promoted by Wilfried Sauerland’s Sauerland Event and its Managing Director, Christian Meyer, in association with Don King Productions. The broadcast is being distributed in the United States and Canada by Integrated Sports for live viewing at 3 PM/ET – 12 PM/PT on both cable and satellite pay-per-view via iN Demand, DIRECTV, TVN, DISH Network, Viewer’s Choice, Shaw PPV and Bell TV for a suggested retail price of only $24.95. A replay will be shown that same night at 9 PM/ET, 6 PM/PT

The quick, hard-punching Haye will not be deterred by spotting the 7-foot, 325-odd pound Valuev (50-1, 34 KOs), from St. Petersburg, Russia, about 100 pounds and 9-inches. “I don’t care what I weigh,” David answered a question about his expected weight on fight night. “I haven’t looked at the scales all through training camp. So long as I’m fit and sharp at the weight, I’m not bothered what the scales say. As far as bring my power up, I have no doubt I’ll hit hard enough to knock out top heavyweights. I’ve never been in the ring with an opponent – amateur, sparring, or as a pro – who hasn’t respected my punching power. I’ve floor top heavyweights, in the gym and in the ring, and none of them can ever believe how hard I punch for a smaller guy.

“It’s never much fun getting hit by a man weighing 23 stone, so I’m not underestimating the power he generates. He must hit fairly hard. Technically, he does most things right. He’s a well-schooled fighter that has improved over the years. Saying that, though, his last five fights have gone the distance, and I certainly don’t think he’s the fearsome and terrifying puncher he perhaps should be for a man of that size.”

Two-time WBA heavyweight champion John “The Quietman” Ruiz (43-8-1, 29 KOs), the current WBA No. 1 rated and “official challenger,” meets ex-IBU champion Adnan “Aachen Assassin” Serin (19-10-1, 7 KOs) in the opening live PPV bout on the Valuev-Haye. Additional undercard bouts will also air on the PPV telecast.See you at the Fights.

SHOWTIME Sports® Captures Brett Rogers in TrainingSHOWTIME Sports® Captures Brett Rogers in Training Camp “I Am Living THE American Success Story…”

SHOWTIME Sports cameras were entrenched in the training camp of undefeated American powerhouse Brett “The Grim” Rogers in Minneapolis earlier this week as he prepares for the highest profile fight of his career.

Rogers Quotes:

“The hardest part has been having someone (camera persons) on the mat during training that I CAN’T hit. Normally, the rule is, if you’re on the mat, you’re fair game to get some.”

“It’s been fun to share my story. I feel that I am living the American success story. And I hope that others can take some level of inspiration from it.”

“I am really looking forward to seeing the show, but to be honest, I won’t be in the right frame of mind next week to really enjoy it. I’ll have to go back and watch it in a couple of weeks to digest it all.”

“The film crew has been here for more than five days. I tell you, it is a surreal experience to have the world watching you, watching me do what my fight team and I have been doing for five years in relative obscurity day in and day out. All of a sudden, to have my life become worthy of this attention is amazing, shocking almost. But we are having fun with it.”

“We’ve had various training partners roll through the past few days and it’s been odd to explain what the cameras are doing here. They aren’t expecting it. The first few days the crew was here, it was a bit suffocating. To have them shadow me through my every move, not just in training, but at home with my family, during meals, everywhere. After a few days, though, I kind of got used to it.”

Former Welterweight World Champion Marlon Starling Recalls Title Fight in Hartford 20 Years Ago‏

FORMER WELTERWEIGHT CHAMPION RECALLS LAST WORLD TITLE FIGHT IN HARTFORD Marlon ‘Magic Man’ Starling Still Resides in Hartford, site Of the Saturday, November 7, Dawson-Johnson Rematch at Hartford’s XL Center Live on HBO World Championship Boxing

HARTFORD, CONN., The memories come flooding back when Marlon “Magic Man” Starling sits back and recalls the last world title fight to take place in Hartford, Conn., more than 20 years ago.

The East Hartford resident who turned 50 years old in August can still remember specifics of the night he won a unanimous decision on Sept. 15, 1989, against Yung-Kil Chung to defend his WBC Welterweight World title at the Civic Center in Hartford now known as the XL Center, the site of the Nov. 7 rematch between another of Connecticut’s favorite sons as Chad Dawson battles Glen Johnson in a rematch for the WBC interim and IBO light heavyweight title.

The victory over Chung that night in Hartford was also one of Starling’s final fights and last victory as a professional boxer.

“What I remember about that night was that Marlon Starling put on a show,” said Starling, who routinely refers to himself in the third person. “I did everything I wanted to do but knock him out. The thing about me and this was true throughout my entire career was I never did anything great. I did everything good. I turned professional in 1979 and my first year in the Top 10 was 1980. I finished my career in the Top 10.”

The current president of the Connecticut Hall of Fame, Glenn Feldman, also has fond memories of the last world title fight in Hartford. “I just remember an electric atmosphere, a buzz around the city,” said Feldman. “The Civic Center used to be the hub of the city. Starling was huge in Hartford. He was the man. People loved him and when he fought it was the talk of the town.”

In 1989, Starling knocked out Lloyd Honeyghan to win the WBC World Welterweight Championship. After his first title defense against Chung, Starling challenged Michael Nunn for the IBF World Middleweight Championship, but lost by decision. In his next fight, Starling lost his welterweight title on a close decision to Maurice Blocker in what would be Starling's last fight. He retired with a record of 45-6-1-1 (27 KOs). He was 32 years old.

“I never retired from boxing. I quit,” Starling said. “Every other boxer retires and then comes back for the all-mighty dollar. When Marlon Starling was the WBC Welterweight Champion of the world he wasn’t just the best welterweight fighter, he was one of the best fighters in the world, period. There were only one or two or three other fighters in the world who were better than me. There was Mike Tyson, Julio Cesar Chavez and Evander Holyfield.”

Starling said he knew he was finished with boxing after flying to Los Angeles to train five months after his final fight and sparring with a 20-year-old. “I slept for two days after that. I knew right then and there I was too old for this sport. I was 32. I thought maybe I could come back and still be a champion but Father Time caught up with me. You have to love this sport to do it and to do it well.

“I don’t ever regret quitting early. I don’t think it was early. Look at Sugar Ray Leonard and Larry Holmes. They all came back and they got beat by mediocre fighters and that tarnished their careers.”

Starling fought numerous times on network television and was a popular fighter, despite never using a promoter. He did train with a young Freddy Roach, who is now considered one of the best in the world and currently trains Manny Pacquiao. “Marlon was always business-like when it came to training and boxing,” Roach said recently.

“Freddy Roach trained me but you know who trained Marlon Starling better than anyone was Marlon Starling,” Starling said. “He worked with me but I’m tough. Ninety-five percent of boxing is conditioning and I was always the best conditioned fighter.”

Starling still lives in East Hartford and said that after 20 years of odds and ends jobs like driving a limo and serving as a host at a restaurant, he has finally found a job he loves. He currently works with people with special needs at Catholic Charities. “I was still trying to find what I wanted to do when I grew up,” he said. “About eight months ago I found it. I think I finally found a job that I can love more than I love boxing. You do this for the love of it. But what I really want to do is to train fighters. That’s what I know best. Training boxers is more of love of mine and a goal not or a dream. The dream for me was winning the world title.”

Starling will be in attendance Saturday night at the Dawson-Johnson fight and has worked with Dawson in the past. He has advice for him come Nov. 7. “He’s got to keep doing what he’s been doing. He cannot get into a fight. What’s the worst thing that can happen in a boxing match? You get into a fight. I think Chad Dawson has all the attributes to be a world champion. But you can’t fight the fighters and you can’t box the boxers. He has to mix it up. He has to not get into a fight with the tough guys. He has to keep them in the middle of the ring.”

Saturday night’s fight will be broadcast live on HBO World Championship Boxing beginning at 9:30 p.m. ET / 6:30 p.m. PT. See you at the Fights.

SIX QUESTIONS WITH CHAD DAWSON

SIX QUESTIONS WITH CHAD DAWSON Saturday, November 7, at Hartford’s XL Center Live on HBO World Championship Boxing

QUESTION: What do you expect to see from Glen Johnson the second time around? DAWSON: “I don’t expect to see anything differently. I think he’ll come the same way he came last time. I don’t want him thinking in any way he won the last fight. I want to put that last fight out of his mind once and for all. I will outbox him and outwork him once again.”

QUESTION: You vacated your IBF light heavyweight title back in May to fight Johnson again rather than face mandatory challenger Tavoris Cloud. Why did you take this fight?
DAWSON: “It wasn’t just for the money which is what everyone is saying. I took the fight because it’s the one everyone wants to see. A lot of people think that HBO made me take this fight. HBO didn’t make me take this fight. The first fight took place 18 months ago. I took this fight to see where I’m at in my career.”

QUESTION: Your promoter Gary Shaw says he turned down more money from other venues to allow you to fight at home. How big will it be to have a “home” game on Nov. 7?
DAWSON: “Oh, definitely, it’s going to be big. A lot of my family and friends haven’t been able to see me fight and for them to get to do so in this huge fight on HBO is incredible. I just hope I don’t disappoint them. I want to showcase my talent and show everybody what I can do.”

QUESTION: How have you evolved as a fighter since you fought Johnson last? DAWSON: “I don’t know. My last two years I’ve fought only Johnson and Antonio Tarver so I can’t really say. The last fight was a great fight. I think I’ve matured as a fighter. I’ve gotten a lot smarter in the ring. I’m a better boxer now.”

QUESTION: The super middleweights are getting a lot of publicity with the Super Six World Boxing Classic tournament. What do you think about the light heavyweight division right now?
DAWSON: “We have some older fighters like Glen Johnson, Bernard Hopkins and Roy Jones. I’m stuck here for now unless I go down or want to go up to cruiserweight. Joe Calzaghe was our best fighter but he’s retired now. If he ever comes back it’ll be better. I’m in training camp right now so when I get home I don’t want to think about boxing. I keep my mind off boxing. I watched the Mayweather-Marquez fight. And I’ll definitely be at the Manny Pacquiao-Miguel Cotto. That’s going to be a great fight.”

QUESTION: What do you like to do when you’re not in the ring or training?
DAWSON: “I like to play basketball and I’m really into cars heavy. I have a big family so I like to spend time with my brothers. I have a GT Coupe and a Jaguar sports car that I just put some new rims on. So that keeps me busy. It’s fun and that’s what I like to do.” See you at the Fights.
Thank You for your time.

MMA HEAVYWEIGHT BRETT ROGERS PREPARES FOR HIS CBS PRIMETIME SHOWDOWN WITH THE WORLD'S #1 RANKED MMA FIGHTER‏

On Saturday, Nov. 7, Rogers faces world No. 1 ranked heavyweight fighter Fedor Emelianenko in the main event of “STRIKEFORCE/ M-1 GLOBAL: Fedor vs. Rogers” LIVE on the CBS Television Network (9:00 PM live ET /delayed PT) at the Sears Centre in Chicago.

For The First Time Ever, Film Crew Captures The Athlete, The Family Man and The Mystique of MMA's # 1 Fighter, Fedor, in Russian Training Camp

NEW YORK —In the wake of the critically acclaimed debut of FIGHT CAMP 360°: Inside The Super Six World Boxing Classic, SHOWTIME Sports® turns the spotlight to mixed martial arts with FIGHT CAMP 360°: Fedor vs. Rogers.

FIGHT CAMP 360°: Fedor vs. Rogers will feature unrestricted access to one of the most enigmatic professional athletes of today, Fedor Emelianenko and his next opponent, the undefeated Brett Rogers, as they prepare to headline "STRIKEFORCE/M-1 Global Saturday Night Fights" to be broadcast LIVE on Saturday, Nov. 7 (9:00 PM, ET/delayed PT) on the CBS Television Network.

FIGHT CAMP 360°: Fedor vs. Rogers will premiere on SHOWTIME® on Tuesday, Nov. 3 at 9:30 p.m. ET/PT. The CBS Television Network will also make the show available to its 203 affiliated stations for broadcast in advance of the fight.
From director Ron Yassen, who is embedded in Fedor’s training camp in Stary Oskol, Russia: “Fedor is beyond captivating as a fighter, and more so, as a man. It's a pure joy to film him so intimately as he strives for perfection in life and sport with grace and charm. While training for this most important match, he kindly opened up his life to us in and out of the ring, without the ego that often comes with being the very best at one's craft.”

Produced in conjunction with Roadside Entertainment, FIGHT CAMP 360°: Fedor vs. Rogers will showcase both fighters as they prepare for this historic fight. Nov. 7 marks the first time Fedor, widely considered the sport’s No. 1 fighter, will appear in front of a national broadcast television audience. Despite his iconic status within the sport, Fedor (30-1) remains shrouded in mystery, living and training in seclusion in a remote mining village in Russia far away from the spotlight afforded the sports’ very best.

Rogers lives and trains in Minneapolis, and enters the fight with an impressive 10-0 record after most recently dismantling former heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski. Rogers, a quiet, soft-spoken giant outside the cage, who earlier this year quite his job as a tire technician at Sam’s Club, has the opportunity of a lifetime to dethrone the sport’s greatest in front of a national television audience.

“The response to our inaugural episode of Fight Camp 360°: Inside The Super Six World Boxing Classic chronicling the boxing tournament has been overwhelming,” said SHOWTIME Sports General Manager Ken Hershman, who commissioned the project. “Because of the subjects involved—the mysterious world champion set to fight a man living the American dream—we had to turn our lens in this direction. Special thanks to M-1 Global and STRIKEFORCE for affording us a level of access to both men that has been unparalleled in their respective careers.”

Scott Coker, president of STRIKEFORCE, added, ”This is a one of a kind opportunity for fans to go behind the scenes and take a close look at the extraordinary, number one fighter in the world - Fedor - and his opponent who has become a symbol of The American Dream."

See you at the Fights.
Thank You for your time.

Dawson's Do-Over; CHAD DAWSON TAKES ON GLEN JOHNSON ON THE NEXT WCB; CHAD DAWSON AND GLEN JOHNSON PARTICIPATE IN 30-DAY WBC MANDATORY WEIGH-IN

Some people thought Glen Johnson beat Chad Dawson in their fight last year. This time, Dawson is determined to erase any doubts. Catch Dawson vs. Johnson II, plus Angulo vs. Yorgey, Saturday November 7th at 9:30 PM ET/6:30 PM PT

Looking fit and ready to go, both Chad Dawson and Glen Johnson participated in their World Boxing Council (WBC) 30-day mandatory weigh-in Wednesday. Dawson weighed in at 185 pounds in Las Vegas where he is training while Johnson tipped the scale at 181.6 pounds in Miami, Fla. The WBC light heavyweight limit is 175 pounds.

The two square off Nov. 7 at the XL Center in Hartford, Conn., in a WBC light heavyweight world title rematch. Back in April, 2008, the two met with Dawson’s WBC light heavyweight title on the line with Dawson coming away with a hard-earned unanimous decision.

Said Dawson, who also sparred and met with local members of the media at the International MMA Fight Club in Vegas: “I was 185 and that was with my clothes on. Everything’s good. I’m ready to take on Johnson and put to rest this idea that he should have won the last fight.”

Johnson weighed in at 181.6 pounds at Thump Fight Gym and Fitness Center in Miami, Fla. “I think Chad knows I mean business by coming in at 181.6 pounds 30 days out,” Johnson said. “I am ready for this fight and I am taking it very seriously. I feel great. Let’s get it on.”

Said Leon Margules, executive director of Hollywood-based Warriors Boxing, of Johnson: “He looks spectacular. He is way ahead of where we expected him to be. I asked him before the weigh-in how much he weighed and he thought 185 pounds. He is just healthy, training and in tremendous shape. The last time he was 30 days out from a fight he was 188, 189 pounds. It shows how serious he is taking this fight. It’s life or death to him.”

Promoted by Gary Shaw Productions, in association with DiBella Entertainment and Seminole Warriors Boxing, Dawson-Johnson II and a tremendous Alfredo Angulo vs. Harry Joe Yorgey 10-round Super Welterweight co-feature will be broadcast live on HBO World Championship Boxing Nov. 7, beginning at 9:30 p.m. ET / 6:30 p.m. PT, from the XL Center

Valuev not letting Haye get into his head for WBA Heavyweight Title Fight Saturday’s “David vs. Goliath” PPV card live from Germany

‘David vs. Goliath’ PPV Boxing ‘Russian Giant’ vs. ‘The Hayemaker’ For the WBA Heavyweight Championship. North American boxing fans can view the much-anticipated “David vs. Goliath” World Boxing Association heavyweight championship boxing match between Nikolai “The Russian Giant” Valuev and David “The Hayemaker” Haye, live on Pay-Per-View on Saturday, Nov. 7 from Nuremberg, Germany.

HOBOKEN, N.J.– Two-time and reigning World Boxing Association heavyweight champion Nikolai “The Russian Giant” Valuev isn’t letting constant trash- talking by 3-time world cruiserweight champion David “The Haymaker” Haye get into his head as he makes final preparations for Saturday’s “David vs. Goliath” world title fight being broadcast in North America live on Pay-Per-View from Nuremberg, Germany.

Valuev (50-1, 34 KOs), from St. Petersburg, Russia, is the tallest and heaviest champion in history at an unnerving 7 feet and 325 pounds, who has defeated a trio of heavyweight champions -- Evander “The Real Deal” Holyfield, John “The Quietman” Ruiz (twice), and Sergei Liakhovich. With his obvious physical advantages, coupled by invaluable ring experience, Valuev will not be intimidated by Haye’s “smack.”

“He can say what he wants,” Valuev said. “I don’t care about it. I will give my answer in the ring. A lot of opponents have tried to provoke me but nobody has ever succeeded. I don’t care about his statements. Needless to say, I am very confident of success.”

A replay will be shown that same night at 9 PM/ET, 6 PM/PT.

“This is great news,” the WBA champ remarked upon learning his fight will air in North America. “I want to thank my fans in the US and Canada for their support. I hope they will enjoy the fight November 7th.”

Haye, (22-1, 21 KOs), from London, England, has defeated four world cruiserweight champions: Enzo Maccarinelli and Jean Marc Mormeck for unified crowns, Giacobbe Fragomeni (TKO9) for the European title, and “King” Arthur Williams (TKO3). “The Hayemaker” moved up to heavyweight a year ago after leaving the cruiserweight division in ruins as the unified WBA/WBC/WBO cruiserweight champion. He plans to showcase his superior quickness and athleticism against “The Russian Giant.”

David Haye

“Obviously, he is fast,” Valuev noted. “But I have prepared for his speed. We have prepared well in practice for him and his style. How he stands-up to my punching remains to be seen when we are in the ring. I don’t make predictions but I will defend my title.”

Two-time WBA heavyweight champion John “The Quietman” Ruiz (43-8-1, 29 KOs), the current WBA No. 1 rated and “official challenger,” faces former IBU champion Adnan “Aachen Assassin” Serin (19-10-1, 7 KOs) in the opening live PPV bout on the Valuev-Haye. Additional undercard bouts will also air on the PPV telecast.

See you at the Fights.

ALLAN GREEN’S SHOBOX OPPONENT TARVIS SIMMS SHEDS FINAL POUNDS TO FINALLY MAKE WEIGHT;“SHOBOX: THE NEW GENERATION’’ Tomorrow/Friday, Oct. 2 at 11 p.m.

NEWKIRK, Okla– Tarvis Simms skipped rope in the hallway just moments after weighing in slightly over the super middleweight limit on Thursday during the final weigh-in for Friday’s ShoBox: The New Generation matchup against Allan Green.

Simms was able to finally make weight later in the evening at a previously agreed 168.8 pounds while Green weighed in at 167.6 pounds during the afternoon weigh-in for their 10-round main event tomorrow/Friday, Oct. 2, live on SHOWTIME (11 p.m. ET/PT, delayed on the west coast).

Despite what he called the stress of having to scramble and make weight later in the evening, the southpaw Simms (25-0-1 11 KOs) from Norwalk, Conn., said he will be ready and prepared for whatever Green has in store for him. “I know people aren’t picking me to win, but that’s why I’m going to go out there and shock the world.”

At 6-foot-1, Green (28-1, 20 KOs) has a sizable height advantage over the 5-foot-9 Simms, who is 38 years old. Green has fought a lefthander three times in his career, all victories. “And they were all on short notice too,” he said.

In the second televised fight of the night promoted by DiBella Entertainment at the First Council Casino, “The Truth” Antwone Smith (16-1-1, 8 KOs) of Hollywood, Fla., takes on Henry Crawford (22-0-1, 9 KOs) of Paterson, N.J., in a 10-round welterweight battle between two of the division’s brightest prospects.

In the opening televised fight, Marcus “Too Much” Johnson (17-0, 14 KOs) of Houston, Texas, battles Victor Villereal (8-3-2 1 NSF, 4 KOs) of Longmont, Colo., in an eight-round super middleweight matchup.

Curt Menefee, Steve Farhood and Antonio Tarver will call the ShoBox action from ringside. The executive producer of ShoBox is Gordon Hall with Richard Gaughan producing and Rick Phillips directing.

NOTE – WEIGHTS: Green weighed in at 167.6 pounds; Simms at 168.8; Smith at 147.6; Crawford at 146.4; Johnson at 168.8 and Villereal at 166.2.

“Sweetness” ALLEN GREEN

“I had to change up my game plan a little bit. At first I was supposed to fight a shorter Russian fighter (Victor Oganov) before he got hurt and now I’m fighting a southpaw. But the outcome is not going to change.

“It’s always important to make a statement and Friday night will be no different.”

“Marvelous” TARVIS SIMMS

“I know I’m coming in as the underdog. It’s kind of like the Antonio Tarver-Roy Jones fight. Roy Jones was expected to dominate the fight. I have to do what Tarver did and pull off the upset.

“My last four fights were against talented young men and I made them look they were the older ones.

This is a big opportunity for me and I want to put on a great performance so hopefully they’ll have me back.”

On the size difference: “I don’t care about that. I don’t think Allan’s going to show me anything that I haven’t seen before. I think he’s very talented and should have been selected for the Super Six tournament.”

On having only 26 fights at the age of 38: “I can’t change the past. What’s done is done. I know I can win this fight and I will show everyone that I will win this fight. People think I’m coming in here as a late replacement and I won’t give him a good fight. Well, they’re badly mistaken because I will come out victorious.”
ANTWONE “The Truth” SMITH

“I think I will win by decision. I’m a boxer and a fast-hands fighter but he hasn’t fought anyone hard yet. I think the pace of the fight that I’m bringing will tie him up.

“My strategy is to just win. I don’t care how I do it or how it looks. I’d rather a sloppy win than a pretty loss.”

HENRY CRAWFORD

“There’s really no game plan. Because I just adjust to every fight and fighter. I’m just going to take care of business and adjust as the fight progresses.

“I’m not going for the knockout. Whatever happens in the fight, I’ll take it. This is what it’s all about. As soon as they called me I said, “We’ll take it.’ I didn’t even know what the purse was or anything. This is all about entertaining and I’ve got to entertain to make the money.”

See you at the Fights.

Ward vs. Pudwill Joins Mikkel Kessler vs. Gusmyl Perdomo On Special Saturday Primetime Edition of ShoBox: The New Generation Sept. 12, 2009, at 10 p.m

NEW YORK— Undefeated super middleweight Andre “S.O.G.” Ward will share the stage with his first Super Six World Boxing Classic™ opponent Mikkel “Viking Warrior” Kessler on a special Saturday primetime edition of ShoBox: The New Generation, on SHOWTIME.

Ward (19-0, 12 KOs) will tangle with Shelby Pudwill (22-3-1, 9 KOs) of McGlauglin, S.D., in a 10-round super middleweight scrap live from Pechanga Resort and Casino in Temecula, Calif., on Saturday, Sept. 12, at 10 p.m. ET/PT.

The Ward fight will air immediately following Kessler’s World Boxing Association (WBA) super middleweight mandatory title defense against No. 1 ranked Gusmyl Perdomo (16-2, 10 KOs) of Turmero, Venezuela, which will air on same day tape delay from MCH Messecenter Herning - Herning, Denmark.

“There was no way we were going to allow Mikkel Kessler to have a showcase fight preceding his Super Six showdown with Andre, and not have the viewers on SHOWTIME witness our 2004 US Olympic gold medalist in action the same night,” Ward’s promoter Dan Goossen said. “Kessler may be the champion, but Andre Ward is coming to take that title and making history."

Goossen is referencing the Group Stage 1 matchup of Ward vs. Kessler in the celebrated Super Six World Boxing Classic, Nov. 21, 2009, live on SHOWTIME. Ward-Kessler promises to be one of the most exciting fights of the year, pitting Team USA’s only Olympic Games gold medalist from Athens 2004 against Kessler (41-1, 31 KOs), of Copenhagen, Denmark, an early favorite in the tournament.

In his last fight on Dec. 6, 2008, Pudwill, 34, beat Anthony Osbourne in Mandan, N.D., with an eighth-round knockout. Inactive in all of 2007, Pudwill suffered a loss in his fight before Osbourne to John Duddy at Madison Square Garden in 2006.

Pudwill took eight straight wins into the Duddy fight and didn’t lose for almost five years in a time-span that dated from June 2001 to March 2006.

Emelianenko, known globally as Fedor, will make his premium television debut this Fall when his first fight under the new agreement airs live on SHOWTIME®. Up until now, Emelianenko’s live fights have aired exclusively on pay-per-view in the United States.

“I am looking forward to going back to work and fighting at the highest level," said the 33-year-old Emelianenko. During his nine year professional fight career, which included a four and a half year stay with the world’s former top MMA promotion, the now defunct PRIDE Fighting Championship, the Russian native has faced and defeated all comers.

In his last effort, the 6-foot, 235-pound Emelianenko decimated the number two ranked heavyweight at the time Andrei “The Pitbull” Arlovski with a single punch in the first round (3:14) of the main event of Affliction: “Day of Reckoning” atAnaheim, California’s Honda Center on January 24.

“STRIKEFORCE is a top fight promotion that houses some of the greatest fighters in the world,” continued Emelianenko. “I am prepared to fight any of them.”

“We are extremely excited to have the opportunity to work with M-1 Global and Fedor,” said STRIKEFORCE Founder and CEO Scott Coker, a martial arts fight promoter of over 25 years. “Fedor has been the reigning king of MMA’s heavyweight division for quite some time now so being able to work with M-1 and Fedor will substantially increase the level of competition amongst the athletes in this weight class.”

“With the addition of Fedor and STRIKEFORCE’s new relationship with M-1 Global, SHOWTIME is now the home of the best pound-for-pound male and female fighters in the world,” saidKen Hershman, Senior VP and General Manager of SHOWTIME Sports®. “The Aug. 15 Carano-Cyborg matchup on SHOWTIME will clearly determine the best female mixed martial artist on the planet. Then, come this Fall, our subscribers again will witness history when the universally recognized best male fighter—Fedor Emelianenko—joins the already long list of world-class athletes on the STRIKEFORCE roster, and for the first time ever plies his skills live on SHOWTIME.”

Hershman continued: “We are better positioned now than ever before to deliver on our promise to televise the top fighters in mixed martial arts today.”

“I am very happy and excited about the upcoming collaboration with Strikeforce,” saidVadim Finkelchtein, President of M-1 Global. “We are very pleased that we found a reliable partner and I feel that Strikeforce and M-1 can support each other on many things. This will create big opportunities for both parties to test their fighters against worthy opponents.”

Though his official professional record is 30-1, Emelianenko is considered undefeated. The only blemish on his record is a December 22, 2000 fight that was stopped after 17 seconds and declared a TKO in favor of his opponent, Tsuyoshi Kohsaka, due to a cut Emelianenko sustained in the opening seconds of the matchup in Osaka,Japan.

Amongst those on Emelianenko’s list of impressive conquests are former PRIDE Heavyweight Champions Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira,Mark “The Hammer” Coleman, and Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic as well as former UFC Heavyweight Champions Kevin “The Monster” Randleman and Tim Sylvia, whom Emelianenko submitted with a rear naked choke only 36 seconds into their main event showdown at Affliction: “Banned” on July 19, 2008.

Despite his extensive experience, Emelianenko’s debut under the new STRIKEFORCE-M-1 venture will, interestingly enough, mark his first start in a cage. To date, all of his bouts have taken place in a ring.

After co-promoting two events live on SHOWTIME in 2007 and 2008, STRIKEFORCE in March 2009 signed a multi-year agreement to stage live MMA events on the premium cable television network.

See you at the Fights.

“Hook City” Camp Notes… TEAM JONES HUNTS FOR MEALS AT TRAINING CAMP; In California, PA, Monday’s Kill is Tuesday’s Dinner

CALIFORNIA, PA– Roy “Captain Hook” Jones Jr. is in training camp in California, PA, thirty minutes south of Pittsburgh preparing for his August 15 “Hook City” showdown against Jeff “Left Hook” Lacy. The event, presented by Square Ring Promotions in association with Left Hook Promotions and Beau Rivage Resort & Casino, will be broadcast live on pay-per-view.

The camp headquarters at Buzz Garnic’s Round 2 Boxing Gym, which houses Alton “Coach” Merkerson along with Square Ring Promotions stable mates Verquan Kimbrough, Kieyon Bussey and various sparring partners, is located at the top of a hill at the edge of a forest.

On Monday, “Coach Merk” was at the kitchen sink when he noticed a large ground hog at the edge of the woods. He retrieved his rifle, slid open the kitchen window screen and shot the ‘hog.’ He nailed it from 50 yards away. “I was in the Army for twenty-one years and have shot a lot of stuff, so this was no big deal,” said the retired Army Sergeant, who spent numerous stints in Vietnam. Merk put the hog in a cooler on ice where it sat for the evening training session.

After training, Bussey, also from the great hunting area of Pensacola, skinned and filleted the hog outside the house. While preparing the hog, Bussey thought he had heard some heavy breathing and thought it was the 300-pound black bear that has been spotted in the area numerous times. It wasn’t the bear; it was the breathing of Verquan “The Show” Kimbrough, former NABA and USBA lightweight champion from nearby Aliquippa, who will be on the broadcast portion of “Hook City.” Kimbrough, known for taking up to four showers a day, wanted nothing to do with Monday’s kill and Bussey chased him around the yard with the now-filleted hog.

“Big Roy, Little Roy, Kieyon and I will eat it tonight,” said Merkerson. “It’s nothing but lean meat and tastes great with marinade (balsamic vinegar) and a little salt. It’ll be good for Roy.”

In “Hook City,” two of boxing’s dominating left hookers, 8-time world champion Roy Jones Jr. and 2-time world champion Jeff Lacy, go to battle on Saturday, August 15 at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum in Biloxi to determine the most powerful hooker and the NABO Light Heavyweight Champion.

The “Hook City” pay-per-view show, presented by Square Ring Promotions in association with Left Hook Promotions and Beau Rivage Resort & Casino, is being distributed by Square Ring Promotions, Inc. at 9:00PM ET/6:00PM PT in the United States on cable and satellite via iNDemand, TVN, DirecTV and Dish Network for a suggested retail price of $34.95, as well as on Super Channel in Canada.
