Michael 'The Brazilian Rocky' Oliveira Headlining First Time in Florida at 'Knockout Night at Hard Rock Live' November 12 at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida; NOT A TYPICAL BOXER Michael "The Brazilian Rocky" Oliveira away from the gym

Despite coming from a wealthy family, world-rated light middleweight Michael "The Brazilian Rocky" Oliveira (21-1, 16 KOs) believes he was born to box.  Oliveira headlines in his home state for the first time on Tuesday, November 12, 2013 at 7 p.m. ET during "Knockout Night at  Hard Rock Live," presented by MO Productions, at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida.

"Knockout Night at Hard Rock Live" will air live on SporTV, a Brazilian Sports television broadcast affiliate of TV Globo Network and TNC in Argentina.

Oliveira's grandfather, Joao Oliveira, was a sparring partner for Hall of Famer and Brazilian boxing icon Eder "Golden Bantam" Joffre who is one of Oliveira's most ardent supporters in Brazil.

"Boxing is something you are born to do," Oliveira remarked.  "You can't teach heart. You either have it, or you don't. Every day in boxing is a learning experience. Fighters need to be open-minded; like a sponge where you take everything in and apply what you've learned to be a better fighter."

Oliveira continued, "I was more of a brawler when I first started boxing. I've applied boxing skills to become more of a complete fighter.  I also learned how to play with my opponent's mind to confuse him during a fight.  Even after I'm a world champion, I won't be a perfect fighter because there's no such thing. Styles make fights and those change from fight to fight and you need to adjust to every fighter and situation."

The Brazilian-born Oliveira, who has lived in Miami since he was an infant, is rated No. 7 by the World Boxing Council (WBC) and No. 11 by the World Boxing Association (WBA).  He is the reigning Fecarbox and World Boxing Association (WBA) Fedebol light middleweight champion.

Oliveira takes on Noberto "Demonio" Gonzalez, a former Mexican Welterweight Champion, in the 10-round main event.  The 23-year-old Oliveira will be fighting in Florida for only the second time. His first fight there was four years ago in his fifth professional fight.

"This fight is very important for me because I live here and so many of my friends, family and fans haven't had the opportunity to watch me fight live," Oliveira said.  "I'm an international fighter but I'll have a little advantage fighting at home."

Oliveira is known as the "The Brazilian Rocky" because he has always idolized the late, great heavyweight champion Rocky Marciano whose son, Rocky Marciano Jr., will walk Oliveira into the ring on Nov. 12.

"It means the world to me," Oliveira explained.  "I loved the way Rocky Marciano fought and we have a somewhat similar style.  To look up to somebody and then have his family member walk me into the ring is such an honor.  He has never walked a fighter into the ring."

In the eight-round co-feature, former world champion Yuri Foreman (31-2, 8 KOs) faces Mexican knockout artist Javier "Pelon" Gomez (14-11, 10 KOs). One of the few modern-day Jewish world champions, WBC No. 14 ranked Foreman is an aspiring rabbi who was born in Belarus, moved to Israel, and resides in Brooklyn, New York.

Undefeated light heavyweight Yunieski "The Diamond" Gonzalez (12-0, 8 KOs), a former member of the Cuban National Boxing Team, faces former WBC FECARBOX champion Jinner Guerrero (7-1, 6 KOs) of Ecuador in a 10-round fight.

Also fighting on the undercard are unbeaten Cuban featherweight Hairon "El Maja" Socarras (7-0, 5 KOs) and Bahamian super featherweight Valentino Knowles (1-0) in six-round bouts; Cuban super middleweight Vilier Quinones (5-0, 3 KOs), heavyweight prospect and 2008 Cuban Olympian Robert Alfonso (2-0) and Egyptian light heavyweight Ahmed Elbiali (2-0, 2 KOs) in four-round matches.  Gonzalez, Socarras, Knowles, Quinines, Alfonso and Elbiali are all fighting out of Miami.  Their opponents will soon be announced.  All fights and fighters are subject to change.

Super Middleweight World Champion Andre "S.O.G." Ward Oakland Open Workout Quotes Ward preparing for November 16th Battle with Edwin Rodriguez

With under a month remaining until his highly anticipated return, WBA and Ring Magazine Super Middleweight World Champion Andre "S.O.G." Ward went back to his roots at King's Gym in Oakland, Calif., to discuss his upcoming battle with Edwin "La Bomba" Rodriguez. After a 14-month layoff due to a shoulder injury, Ward will step back in to the ring on November 16 at Citizen's Bank Arena in Ontario, Calif., on HBO World Championship Boxing. He shared his thoughts about the importance of staying in shape throughout the year, the impact of the layoff and his young, hungry opponent with the Bay Area media assembled at his childhood gym.

ANDRE WARD, WBA AND RING MAGAZINE SUPER MIDDLEWEIGHT CHAMPION

"I've always tried to respect this sport, I'm not a guy that always says this is my best training camp ever. Every training camp is my best training camp because I've always approached it the right way."

"The first thing people said when they saw me at the press conference was how lean I looked. I think that's how a fighter is supposed to look. When I used to run in to the great Bernard Hopkins, the first thing I always noticed was how lean he looked. He looks like he is living like a fighter."

"I have had a year of setbacks, a year of a mountain that I had to climb to get to this point, and that made me hungry. I thought I was hungry before the injury but I'm famished right now. I'm ready to get at it."

"I think a lot of people are looking to see what kind of Andre Ward is going to show up on November 16. Is he going to be better? Is he going to be worse? I think they are going to see the best Andre Ward they've ever seen November 16 on HBO."

"Being off with this injury and not being in the game, it just did something to me. I didn't have a crowd. I didn't have TV cameras. I didn't have people cheering me on. I had supporters but I had to find something deep within myself to say, I need to stay ready. Negotiations were long and grueling, but when I got the call that the fight was official, physically I was ready. I had been working. I wasn't just sitting on the couch, taking vacations. I had been working for a year and I think everyone's going to see that November 16."

"I know my opponent. I do research and keep my ear to what's being said, and they think they are catching me at the right time - simple as that. Edwin Rodriguez never looked my way. He never talked about me. He'd throw my name out if someone asked about me. He thinks he's catching me at the right time. I've been off for a year, 14 months by the time the fight comes around. He's coming off a major injury so this is the right time to get Ward."

"They are going to be in for a rude awakening come November 16. Don't get me wrong, he's tough, he's young. I was in his position in 2009 when I fought Kessler, I fought a seasoned veteran but the difference between Kessler and me is that Kessler took me lightly. He felt like oh this young guy, he's talented but...I'm looking at Edwin likes he's my toughest challenger up to this point. I know a lot of guys say that but I really am."

"You're only as good as your last performance so I can't rest on my laurels and go in to this fight with a big head because that's when guys who shouldn't get knocked off, get beat and there's an upset and that's not going to be the case on November 16."

2004 U.S. Olympic gold medalist and WBA and RIng Magazine World Super Middleweight Champion Andre "S.O.G." Ward makes his highly anticipated return to the ring defending his title against Edwin Rodriguez on Saturday, November 16 at the Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, Calif. Following slightly more than a year's absence from the ring due to injury, Bay Area hero, Ward (26-0, 13 KOs) will put his world titles on the line against the undefeated Rodriguez (24-0, 16 KOs) in a scheduled 12-round World Championship main event, which will be televised live on HBO World Championship Boxing® beginning at 9:30 p.m. ET/PT.

DEMETRIUS 'Boo Boo' ANDRADE 2008 U. S. Olympian; No 'Boo Boo' for Demetrius Andrade in WBO title fight vs. Vanes Martirosyan Nov. 9 on HBO

Undefeated light middleweight Demetrius "Boo Boo" Andrade (19-0, 13 KOs), a 2008 U.S. Olympian, is on a mission to complete a rare "boxing double" November 9, when he  fights 2004 U.S. Olympian Vanes "Nightmare" Martirosyan (33-0-1, 21 KOs) for the vacant World Boxing Organization (WBO) 154-pound title.

Andrade vs. Martirosyan will be part of an HBO tripleheader, airing live from Corpus Christi, Texas, headlined by WBO junior lightweight Roman Martinez' title defense against Mikey Garcia, in addition to a rematch between former world champions Nonito Donaire and Vic Darchinyan.

In 2007, Andrade captured a gold medal as an amateur at the AIBA World Championships in Chicago.  A Nov. 9th victory over Martirosyan would make Andrade one of the few contemporary world champions as both a professional and amateur.

The gifted southpaw can become the first native New Englander to be world champion of a major governing body since Massachusetts-born heavyweight John "The Quietman" Ruiz in 2005, as well as the first Rhode Islander to do the same since Cranston's light middleweight Vinny "The Pazmanian Devil" in 1991.

"I honestly don't pay attention to anything other than working hard to reach my goal of becoming world champion," the 25-year-old said from his Atlanta training camp. "Everything else is irrelevant, at least for right now, as I train for my first world title fight.  New England has had a lot of good fighters.

"I do know I am going to be the first (pro) world champion from the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team.  I just want to show the boxing world that I am the No. 1 light welterweight in the world and why I will be for years to come.  I'm just beginning my legacy.  I'm growing in stature and a lot more people are going to know me after November 9th."

Andrade credits his amateur boxing experience as the primary reason why fighting  HBO for the first time won't be a problem, as well as his 300+ amateur fights giving him an advantage in the ring against any opponent.

"HBO is a big stage and I'm grateful to be fighting on HBO for the first time," Andrade noted, "but there's no bigger stage in boxing, world-wide, than The Olympics. I've fought under the bright lights, so fighting on HBO won't be anything new for me, or a distraction in any way.

"I've seen and beaten every style, fighting amateur opponents from all over the world, but nobody in the pros has fought anybody like me.  I'm going into this fight with a lot of confidence.  I've prepared for this moment my entire life.  This is my time!"

SHOWTIME SPORTS AND GOLDEN BOY PROMOTIONS TO CONCLUDE RECORD-SETTING YEAR WITH TWO BLOCKBUSTER FIGHT CARDS

SHOWTIME SPORTS AND GOLDEN BOY PROMOTIONS TO CONCLUDE RECORD-SETTING YEAR WITH TWO BLOCKBUSTER FIGHT CARDS
Back-To-Back Quadrupleheaders To Air Live On SHOWTIME®
Saturday, Dec. 7: Zab Judah vs. Paulie Malignaggi
Saturday, Dec. 14: Adrien Broner vs. Marcos Maidana
To celebrate one of the strongest years of programming in boxing history, SHOWTIME Sports® and Golden Boy Promotions will deliver back-to-back blockbuster events airing live on SHOWTIME on Saturday, Dec. 7 and Saturday, Dec. 14. Both events will be quadrupleheaders featuring six world championship fights including the most exciting and dynamic champions and challengers in the welterweight, super welterweight and super bantamweight divisions.
Throughout this past year, month after month, week after week, SHOWTIME and Golden Boy Promotions have featured the sport's biggest stars in the most significant and meaningful fights in every relevant division in boxing.  They joined forces to produce the most lucrative pay-per-view event in television history with perennial pound-for-pound superstar Floyd "Money'' Mayweather, grew the average audience for live boxing on SHOWTIME by more than 30 percent from 2012, and attracted record crowds at sold-out arenas from coast to coast.
Beginning Dec. 7, the first of consecutive quadrupleheaders takes place at Barclays Center in Brooklyn when former five-time, two-division World Champion Zab "Super" Judah(42-8, 29 KO's) andformer two-time, two-division World Champion Paulie "Magic Man" Malignaggi(32-5, 7 KO's) clash in the main event, a 12-round showdown for Brooklyn bragging rights.
The co-feature will match IBF Welterweight World Champion Devon Alexander "The Great'' (25-1, 14 KOs), of St. Louis, Mo., against unbeaten Shawn Porter (22-0-1, 14 KOs), of Akron, Ohio. Also on the card will be Erislandy Lara (18-1-2, 12 KO's) of Houston, Texas against former world champion Austin Trout, of Las Cruces, N.M., for the vacantWBA Super Welterweight Championship.  Rounding out the televised card, Sakio "The Scorpion'' Bika (32-5-2, 21 KO's) makes the first defense of his WBC Super Middleweight crown against unbeaten Anthony Dirrell (26-0, 22 KO's), of Flint, Mich.
Then, on Dec. 14 at the Alamodome in San Antonio, the super-talented WBA Welterweight World Champion Adrien "The Problem" Broner (27-0, 22 KO's), of Cincinnati, will make the first defense of his title when he meets the toughest opponent of his career, the dangerous, hard-hitting Marcos "El Chino" Maidana (34-3, 31 KO's), of Santa Fe, Argentina in the main event.
A ratings goliath, Broner will be making his first start since capturing the 147-pound belt with a hard-fought 12-round split decision over defending champion Malignaggi. He made history when he became the fourth fighter to jump two weight classes and win a welterweight world championship, joining Hall of Famers Henry "Homicide Hank" ArmstrongRoberto "Mano de Piedra" Duran and future candidate "Sugar" Shane Mosley.
Maidana has won three fights in a row, including a smashing sixth-round technical knockout overJosesito Lopez in scintillating slugfest and Fight of the Year candidate last June 8 on SHOWTIME.
In 12-rounders underneath Broner-Maidana, undefeated Keith "One Time" Thurman (21-0, 19 KO's), of Clearwater, Fla., gets tested when he defends his WBA Interim Welterweight World title against tough-as-nails Jesus "Renuente" Soto Karass (32-12-4, 19 KO's), of Mexico City, Mexico, who owns back-to-back impressive victories over world-ranked Selcuk Aydin and Andre Berto.  Andrecently crowned WBC Super Bantamweight Champion Leo "Terremoto" Santa Cruz (25-0-1, 15 KO's) of Los Angeles, Calif. will make his first defense against Cesar Seda (25-1, 17 KO's) of San Juan, Puerto Rico.
The card will also feature, in separate bouts, former WBC Welterweight Champion
Victor Ortiz (29-4-2, 22 KO's) against Alfonso Gomez (22-5-2,  11 KO's) of Los Angeles and Light Heavyweight Champion Beibut Shumenov (13-1, 8 KO's) against Tamas Kovacs (23-0, 14 KO's) of Slovakia.

2013 SHOWTIME and Golden Boy Promotions Highlights

SHOWTIME EXTREME®
IBF Light Heavyweight Champion Bernard "The Alien" Hopkins (54-6-2, 32 KO's) became the oldest fighter in history to defend a world title, breaking his own record by defeating European challenger Karo Murat (25-2-1, 15 KO's).  The 48-year-old "Executioner" turned "Alien" out-worked and out-brawled his 30-year-old challenger and won via clear unanimous decision in front of his hometown crowd at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City.   The fight, promoted by Golden Boy Promotions in association with Caesars Atlantic City, headlined an entertaining three-fight SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING event.
Hopkins appeared to start the night slow, but Hopkins' combinations, speed and power grew each round.  By the seventh, Hopkins and Murat exchanged wild power shots in spurts for the rest of the bout.  Amidst these exchanges, Hopkins used his signature defense, angles and gamesmanship to mentally and physically deflate Murat.  The judges scored the fight 117-110 and 119-108, twice for the champion.

"Richard Schaefer said we needed to be crowd pleasers," said Hopkins, the oldest champion in sports history.  "The crowd wanted to see skill and blood so I had some blood to give them.  I am an entertainer and this is what people want to see... He was a game number one contender."

When asked by SHOWTIME ringside reporter Jim Gray if Murat brought out the best in him, Hopkins answered, "Not really, but he didn't bring out the worst either."

Regarding the slow start, Hopkins said, "That was the plan. That was the bone on the string so that the dog could follow him into a dark alley and then realize someone was waiting on him. And that dog was me."

Hopkins continued, "He throws pretty good punches and he is no one to sleep on.  He is going to give some light heavyweights a bit of a problem."

When Gray asked Hopkins how he stays in such phenomenal shape at age 48, Hopkins replied, "I'm a freaking alien."

Gray then spoke to Murat who said, "Bernard is a good boxer and I lost concentration due to the two cuts which came by head butts. I know that when I am in good shape I can beat him, however, the cuts disturbed me."

In the co-main event Peter "Kid Chocolate" Quillin (30-0, 21 KO's) remained undefeated and retained his WBO Middleweight title by defeating "King"Gabriel Rosado via technical knockout.  The fight was stopped at 40 seconds of the tenth round by the referee on the advice of the doctor due to a deep cut on Rosado's left eyelid.

Quillin came out of the gate as the more confident and powerful of the two, dropping Rosado in the second.  But by the fourth, Rosado found rhythm and confidence of his own.  Rosado pressed forward and took the momentum away for virtually the rest of the fight.

But Quillin was counterpunching and keeping each round close.  In the ninth, with less than a minute left, Quillin landed a snap jab that sliced open Rosado's eyelid which began to pour blood.

In between rounds, the ringside physician cleared the challenger for the tenth.  But referee Allan Huggins soon called for another look at which point the ringside physician changed course and advised Huggins to halt the fight.

Said Quillin after the fight, "I'm not a judge.  I'm not an elected official.  I did what I had to do as a fighter and I respect the call.  The referees and doctors ringside did what they had to do to make sure the fighters are safe.

"I never expect an easy payday or an easy fight.  I work hard every time for each fight...  When you dedicate to win a title you need to give that person a sense of being able to achieve what they want.  I am a world champion and I work hard.  He has never been a champion and he doesn't know.

"I'm ready for anybody.  I am a fighter and I worry about fighting.  If it is a rematch, then I don't care.  I work hard to be in this ring and I work hard to defend my title against anybody.  I don't care if it is against my own mother."

Of the stoppage, Rosado told Gray, "I felt like that was B.S.  This is a championship fight.  We were going into the championship rounds.  This was a competitive fight.  I never complained  about a cut.  When the doctor saw my eye, I told him that I could see. It was not giving me any problems up to that point.

"I noticed if I backed him up with a jab that I was hurting him and I was doing that.  But then the doctor called me over and stopped the fight. This is boxing. What about Gatti-Ward? They didn't stop that fight. Corrales-Castillo. We are warriors.

"I never even complained that I couldn't see. Of course I want a rematch.  This is the story of my life.  I'm the real Rocky Balboa."

In the opening bout of the evening, Deontay "The Bronze Bomber" Wilder (30-0, 30 KO's) remained undefeated with a stunning fourth-round knockout over Nicolai "Stone Man" Firtha (21-11-1, 8 KO's).  It was only the third time that the promising young heavyweight from Tuscaloosa, Ala., has ever been into the fourth round.  To date, he has a remarkable 17 first-round knockouts and is looking to move into a championship fight.

The SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING telecast, featuring another historic performance by Hopkins, will replay Sunday at 9 a.m. ET/PT on SHOWTIME and Tuesday, October 29 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on SHOWTIME EXTREME.  It will be availabe on SHOWTIME On Demand beginning October 27.

Results from tonight's SHOWTIME EXTREME televised preliminary bouts:
Dominic Wade (13-0, 10 KO's) defeated Roberto Ventura (15-8, 14 KO's) via technical knockout at 2:08 of round 1.

Braulio Santos (11-1, 10 KO's) defeated David Clark (6-3, 4 KO's) via technical knockout at 1:49 of round 1.

Zachary Ochoa (5-0, 3 KO's) defeated Michael Doyle (2-6, 1 KO') via unanimous decision.

The SHOWTIME EXTREME undercard bouts will re-air on Wednesday, October 30 at 11 p.m. ET/PT on SHOWTIME EXTREME.

Hopkins vs. Murat was a 12-round bout for Hopkins' IBF Light Heavyweight World Championship, presented by Golden Boy Promotions in association with Caesars Atlantic City and sponsored by Corona and AT&T.  In the co-main event WBO Middleweight Champion Peter Quillin put his title on the line against Gabriel Rosado in a 12-round bout.  Plus, opening the tripleheader, WBC Continental Americas Heavyweight Champion Deontay Wilder faced Nicolai Firtha in a 10-round showdown.  The SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING telecast began live at 9 p.m. ET/PT and was available in Spanish on secondary audio programming (SAP).  Preliminary bouts aired live on SHOWTIME EXTREME® at 7 p.m. ET/PT.

No Holds Barred: Bernard Hopkins on Black Fighters, and Why It's Good to Duck

On this edition of No Holds Barred, host Eddie Goldman previews the October 26 fight between the IBF light heavyweight champion and boxing legend, Bernard Hopkins, and challenger Karo Murat.
The 48-year-old Hopkins (53-6-2, 32 KOs), from Philadelphia, will be facing the 30-year-old Murat (25-1-1, 15 KOs), born in Iraq and fighting out of Germany, at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey. This fight will headline a card which will be shown live in the U.S. on Showtime.
Both Hopkins and Murat were on a media conference call Thursday, and we have excerpts from that.
Despite his age advantage, Murat is a huge underdog. He has never fought for a major world title or in the U.S., and has never faced any opponent on the level of Hopkins. Still, he said on this conference call that Hopkins has been reduced to throwing one punch at a time and then clinching, and that he is confident he can win.
Hopkins - who has shed his long-standing nickname of "The Executioner" and is now calling himself "The Alien" because he is doing things a human of his age should not be able to do - not only dismissed such claims, but emphasized how he combines offense and defense. Such boxing skills, he said, are no longer seen as important or even marketable, especially by many TV executives. Boxing has changed today to where it "has sort of gotten to a barbaric" place. All-time greats like Sugar Ray Robinson and Sugar Ray Leonard, and in particular many Black fighters, he said, "would be boring today" and accused of not being able to sell tickets and pay-per-view buys. The TV executives believe, "if they duck, don't buy it." He attributed his longevity in boxing to his combination of offense and defense, proving "why it's good to duck."
He added, "I got two rules: I hit you, and I got to make you not hit me. What's wrong with that?"
But, he said, "The customers will drink anything you give them, if it's promoted right."
We play from this conference call our questions for Karo Murat, and the commentary by Bernard Hopkins on "why it's good to duck."

Nov. 15 Iron Mike Productions show at Seminole Hard Rock canceled‏

The World Boxing Council (WBC) has announced its World Cup Tournament has been postponed, resulting in the cancellation of the entire Iron Mike Productions-presented show scheduled on November 15, 2013 at Hard Rock Live at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida.  The postponement is out of respect to WBC president and World Cup founder, Jose Sulaiman, who is recovering from recent heart surgery.  The event will not be rescheduled and refunds are available at point of purchase.
The main event and co-feature fights, slated to be part of the World Cup's opening round, were going to air live on Fox Sports I.
The WBC issue the following statement:
The WBC has asked the promoters and participants of the WBC World Cup Tournament, which has been the dream of our President Jose Sulaiman, to postpone the inauguration of the tournament as a sign of respect and solidarity for his current medical condition as he recovers from his recent heart surgery.
Jose Sulaiman worked tirelessly for several years to put together the formidable World Cup, which is a tournament between all WBC affiliated federations champions to determine the best of the division, with the winner to become a challenger of the reigning champion.
The postponement would allow our President to be involved in all the activities which he had so passionately dedicated toward its implementation, with the support of the WBC 19s 10 Continental federations.
All our efforts in the WBC will be concentrated in the successful recuperation of Jose Sulaimán, who is presently recovering at the UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles, California.

"I have known Mr. Jose Sulaiman since I was a teenager," Iron Mike Productions president Mike Tyson said.  "His recovery is of great importance to me and I am sending my prayers to the Sulaiman's and the WBC Family. Professionally, we look forward to being a part of the WBC Cup tournament when it is reinstated. In the interim we will continue getting our fighters exciting fights."

"Beating someone like Antonio Tarver would be career-altering for me," said Sheppard. "I know what he's accomplished in the sport, but I'm hungry for this and you're going to see the best Mike Sheppard yet."

"I have not fought here in Florida in almost two years and this is what my fans have been waiting for," said Ortiz. "It's going to be a big night in Florida and I will be looking for a knockout."

Winner of six of his last nine bouts, including an August victory over Justin Novaria, Sheppard is amped up to score the upset and get a career-defining win.

Owner of nearly 350 amateur wins, Cuba native Luis "El Mercedez" Ortiz (19-0, 16 KO's) is on the fast track to the top of the heavyweight division and the next step on his journey takes place on November 26. Now making his home in Miami, the 34-year-old southpaw has won 10 fights in three rounds or less and another quick finish will be just what his fans want to see.

THE BATTLE OF BROOKLYN IN ON! Former World Champions Zab Judah & Paulie Malignaggi Set To Fight on Dec. 7 At Barclays Center Live on SHOWTIME

THE BATTLE OF BROOKLYN IS ON!
FORMER FIVE-TIME, TWO-DIVISION WORLD CHAMPION ZAB "SUPER" JUDAH TO FIGHT FOR BROOKLYN BRAGGING RIGHTS AGAINST FORMER TWO-TIME, TWO-DIVISION WORLD CHAMPION PAULIE "THE MAGIC MAN" MALIGNAGGI ON DEC. 7 AT BARCLAYS CENTER LIVE ON SHOWTIME®
PLUS, WBA SUPER WELTERWEIGHT INTERIM CHAMPION
ERISLANDY LARA TO MAKE HIS FIRST TITLE DEFENSE AGAINST FORMER WBA SUPER WELTERWEIGHT CHAMPION AUSTIN "NO DOUBT" TROUT AND 2012 U.S. OLYMPIAN MARCUS BROWNE SCHEDULED TO FIGHT
Barclays Center will host two of the borough's favorite sons, former Five-Time, Two-Division World Champion Zab "Super" Judah and former Two-Time, Two-Division World Champion Paulie "The Magic Man" Malignaggi, on Saturday, Dec. 7 todecide who is the true King of Brooklyn. The 12-round welterweight bout will be televised live on SHOWTIME (9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT).
"I am happy to be back fighting in front of my hometown crowd," said Judah, who is from Brownsville. "Paulie and I have known each other for a long time and we have a mutual respect for each other, but with this fight on Dec. 7 it is going to be like the ancient Roman days. There has to be a leader and that position belongs to me."
"I have always admired Zab's skills and his resume speaks for itself," said Malignaggi, a native of Bensonhurst. "But this is the 'Battle of Brooklyn' and winning this fight is worth more than any world title."
"In a year of great fights, I have to say that this one is high on my list of the most anticipated," said CEO of Golden Boy Promotions Richard Schaefer. "Paulie and Zab are two of the slickest, fastest and most charismatic boxers in the world today and when you add in the fact that they're fighting for Brooklyn bragging rights, it's going to be an early holiday gift for boxing fans."
"Judah vs. Malignaggi promises to be a high intensity chess match between two master boxers," said Vice President of Super Judah Promotions Bill Halkias. "This fight is not only special to Brooklyn boxing fans, but also a highly anticipated fight for boxing fans in general. Who wouldn't want to see two highly skilled and experienced world champion boxers go at it for the right to be crowned 'The King of Brooklyn'? I believe Dec. 7 will be a night to remember."
"We've hosted some great fights at Barclays Center in our first year, but this one is different - this fight is about two Brooklyn-born-and-raised fighters proudly representing their respective neighborhoods," said Barclays Center CEO Brett Yormark. "Paulie and Zab are pros at captivating audiences with their big personalities and boxing skills. We are delighted that they will once again step into Brooklyn's most celebrated ring for what is sure to be another memorable night of boxing at Barclays Center."
"Highly competitive, hard-fought, exciting fights have been the hallmark of SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING all year long, and the December 7 card is no different," said Stephen Espinoza, Executive Vice President and General Manager, SHOWTIME Sports. "If you want tune-ups, appearance fights or mismatches, then look elsewhere.  But if you're looking for evenly matched, meaningful fights featuring four of the most skilled boxers in any division, then the December 7 edition of SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING is a can't-miss."
In the 12-round co-main event, the WBA Super Welterweight Championship is on the line as interim titleholder Erislandy Lara battles former champion Austin "No Doubt" Trout. The Cuban star, Lara, is coming off a 'Fight of the Year' candidate in his 10th -round title-winning stoppage of Alfredo Angulo in June, but the gifted Trout is hungrier than ever to regain his world title. Additionally, 2012 U.S. Olympian Marcus Browne, who will be featured at Barclays Center for the fifth time in his professional career, will face an opponent to be determined.
"This is a great matchup with Austin Trout and I respect his skills in the ring," said Lara. "He knows the art of boxing like I do, and the fans will see the sport at its highest level when we fight."
"It's only been a few months, but I already miss being called 'champ,'" said Trout. "So I'd like to thank Lara, Golden Boy, and the WBA for this opportunity to get my belt back and I will get it back this December."
"Barclays Center has truly become my second home," said Browne. "Having the opportunity to fight there more times than any one else is an honor. I look forward to making another appearance there on Dec. 7."
Judah vs. Malignaggi is a 12-round welterweight fight taking place on Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. The event is promoted by Golden Boy Promotions and supported by Golden Boy Promotions' sponsors Corona and AT&T. The SHOWTIME telecast begins at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT (delayed on the West Coast) and will be available in Spanish via secondary audio programming (SAP). In the co-featured bout, Erislandy Lara defends his interim WBA Super Welterweight Championship in a 12-round fight against Austin "No Doubt" Trout. Preliminary fights will air on SHOWTIME EXTREME at 7 p.m. ET/PT (delayed on the West Coast).
Blessed with the speed, power and ring savvy that long ago earned him the nickname "Super,"Zab Judah (42-8, 29 KO's) has been dazzling fight fans in New York and beyond since 1996, winning world titles at 140 and 147 pounds along the way. Owner of wins against Micky Ward, Junior Witter, Cory Spinks and Lucas Matthysse, the 35-year-old southpaw has also squared off with the best of this era, including Floyd Mayweather, Kostya Tszyu, Miguel Cotto, Amir Khan and Danny Garcia, who he recently extended the 12-round distance in a memorable championship bout in April. But to get back into a title fight, Judah must first successfully defeat Malignaggi.
A former junior welterweight and welterweight world champion known as "The Magic Man,"Paulie Malignaggi (32-5, 7 KO's) built an early reputation for talking a good game, but when the bell rang, his skills backed up his boasts. Despite his flashy style in and out of the ring, the 32-year-old has proven himself to be a true warrior, as evidenced by his victories over Juan Diaz, Lovemore Ndou, Vyacheslav Senchenko and Pablo Cesar Cano, and his battles with Miguel Cotto, Ricky Hatton and Amir Khan. Coming off of a razor-thin split decision loss to Adrien Broner in June, Malignaggi's return to the ring has him more amped up than ever.
After graduating from the legendary Cuban amateur boxing program, Guantanamo's Erislandy Lara (18-1-2, 12 KO's) began his quest for professional glory in 2008, eventually settling in Miami. By 2011, he was one of the sport's unsung heroes, with the only blemishes on his record being a controversial draw with Carlos Molina and a majority decision loss to Paul Williams that most consider to be one of the worst decisions in recent history. Since then, Lara has done his best to take matters out of the judges' hands, going 3-0-1 with technical knockouts of Ronald Hearns and Alfredo Angulo. Lara's win over Angulo in June of this year earned the 30-year-old southpaw the interim WBA Championship, and he will look to defend his interim title on Dec. 7.
Slick southpaw Austin "No Doubt" Trout (26-1, 14 KO's) operated under the mainstream radar for many years, but the Las Cruces, New Mexico native never lost sight of his goals, knowing that he would capitalize on his first big opportunity. That opportunity came in February of 2011, when he traveled to Guadalajara, Mexico to take on Rigoberto Alvarez. In that bout, Trout won a 12-round unanimous decision and the vacant WBA Super Welterweight title, a crown he successfully defended four times with victories over David Lopez, Frank LoPorto, Delvin Rodriguez, and Miguel Cotto. In April, Trout lost his title in a hard-fought match with WBC champion Canelo Alvarez, but this December, the 28-year-old gets his chance to take the belt back.
After blasting through his first six opponents as a professional, Staten Island's "Sir" Marcus Browne (7-0, 6 KO's) proved that he could go the distance as well in his most recent bout, as he pounded out an eight-round unanimous decision victory over Lamont Williams at Barclays Center. On Dec. 7, the 22-year-old former Olympian seeks his eighth consecutive win.
