SERGIO “THE LATIN SNAKE” MORA EXCITED ABOUT FIGHT WITH PROKSA ON JUNE 28TH IN JACKSONVILLE ON ESPN’S FRIDAY NIGHT FIGHTS‏

On Friday night, June 28th former WBC Super Welterweight champion, Sergio “The Latin Snake” Mora will take on former Middleweight world title challenger Grzegorz Proksa (29-2, 21 KO’s) at Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida.  The show, which will headline ESPN’s Friday Night Fights is promoted by Banner Promotions.
Mora (23-3-2, 7 KO’s) of East Los Angeles, California expects a great fight and a tough challenge from the former European Middleweight champion.
“Proksa is a solid fighter who fights with a lot of confidence”, said Mora.
“We have similar styles so it should be a chess match.  Because we both have a great will to win, it should make for an excellent fight.”
Mora feels he has been on the wrong end of decisions with Brian Vera and a draw with Shane Mosley knows that judging of the fight is very important and can have huge implications in a fighter’s career.
“I hope the real winner gets the decisions.  I felt I was wronged in the Vera fight and that spring boarded him to a fight with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.  I just hope the judges clearly see who is the effective aggressor, ring general and who has the better defense on June 28th”.
With stalwarts of the Middleweight division Sergio Martinez being injured and Chavez possibly moving up in weight, the winner will see himself in prime position for a title shot.
“There’s IBF champion Daniel Geale, Felix Sturm, The winner of Gennady Golovkin and Matthew Macklin as well as the only American of the bunch being WBO champion Peter Quillin, so the winner of this fight should fight for a title.”
Mora, who rose to fame by winning the Inaugural “Contender” competition has been a little under the radar since his draw with Mosley in 2010
“I don’t know why that has been.  An opponent has never beaten me up.  I just never have had a promoter or network to build me.  I come to win and what I have learned is that I have to evolve with the game to become relevant.  This fight is a re-establishment fight for me.  This is my 5th fight on ESPN and I am glad to be back and ready to put on a show.”

No Holds Barred: Almost Glorious, with Keisha Morrisey and Stephen Quadros

On this edition of No Holds Barred, host Eddie Goldman spoke with our correspondent Keisha Morrisey (http://twitter.com/KCMorrisey) and "The Fight Professor" Stephen Quadros (http://twitter.com/StephenQuadros).
We were all at the Glory 9 kickboxing card, which took place Saturday, June 22, at the Hammerstein Ballroom at the Manhattan Center in New York.
Keisha Morrisey also shuttled between this event and the boxing card at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, headlined by the Adrien Broner-Paulie Malignaggi fight. This provided her an unparalleled opportunity to compare both live shows. Right after the fights, we had a short discussion with Stephen Quadros, who was a TV commentator for Glory 9, about the highs and lows of this card, including the three victories by Tyrone Spong to win the eight-man, light heavyweight tournament. We spoke with Keisha Morrisey Sunday by phone about how she evaluated these two events. "Just in walking into the Glory event, you automatically felt the illumination in the room, the energy of the fans. The music was beautiful, the ambiance, everything about the setting was right on point," she said in this interview. As far as the boxing at the Barclays Center, she added, "It's unreal the energy that you do not have at a boxing event there." We discussed why Glory 9 was by far the better event, the future of boxing and kickboxing in the combat sports world, and much more.
