No Holds Barred: Bob Carson on the State of UFC and Mixed Martial Arts
http://nhbnews.podOmatic.com/entry/2009-04-26T00_29_41-07_00
On this edition of No Holds Barred, host Eddie Goldman speaks with our newest correspondent, , about the present state of mixed martial arts. Bob is also the host of the Carson's Corner podcast (http://carsonscorner.podomatic.com).
We had an animated and lengthy discussion about the degeneration of mixed martial arts in the era of Zuffa, the parent company of the UFC. We discussed the recent controversy stemming from the Anderson Silva- Thales Leites fight at UFC 97, which many fans booed. We explained how the Zuffa bosses prefer their fights to be brawls, and how this is related to the overall decline of technique in UFC, as well as its positioning by Zuffa as a vulgar spectacle similar to the fake pro "wrestling" but with real fights. We confirmed the importance of supporting the efforts of the Mixed Martial Arts Fighters Association (http://mmafa.tv/blog/), and also opposing and exposing those Zuffa shills and wannabe shills in what laughingly calls itself the mixed martial arts media. We discussed the prospects for several other mixed martial arts promotions around the world, and why fans of combat sports should watch the many great fights taking place in the king of combat sports, boxing. You will not want to miss this discussion.

RESULTS & QUOTES FROM ST. LOUIS
Cory Spinks: “I’m back and I’m ready for anybody. I won back the world title at junior middleweight.
“I was a little rusty but I shook it off.” (Regarding being knocked down in the first round) “I thought it was mostly a slip in the first round, I thought I tripped just like the referee ruling Deandre’s knockdown a slip in the 12th round.
“I knew I had to perform in the last round and I did. I’m a master at this and I went out like a dog and got it.”
Deandre Latimore: “I’m a little upset. I dropped him in the first round. That decision should have been mine. The scorecard had it 114-113 (for Spinks). I should have had that edge.”
“I cut him and he cut me, what can I say? He got the decision.”
(On his first-round knockdown of Spinks) “I caught him with a hook. He leaned in and I got him with some good shots and he went down. I played my hand right and I thought I should have won. I dropped him.
Devon Alexander: “Rodriguez was good. He gave me good work. He’s a rugged, awkward fighter.
“I’m ready for anybody at 140 pounds. I can and will get better. I’m the WBC super lightweight mandatory challenger. Now I’m ready for my first world championship appearance.”
Jesus Rodriguez: “I got caught with a good shot (in the ninth round) and I just couldn’t see anymore. Devon was just too fast for me tonight.”
Mark de Mori: “It was a perfect fight for me because it gave me some rounds and my opponent wasn’t a pushover. In the end, the body shots I threw would have knocked down a horse. I had five knockdowns in the fight and they were all from body shots.”
Mark DeLuz: “I've fought some real guys at heavier weights. I fought at bantamweight tonight and felt great. I can fight at this weight, no problem.”See you at the Fights.

UFC Undisputed Demo Drops Today / Tyson Not A Fan Of “Punch-Out”
News for all the sports video game heads out there, the PS3/Xbox 360 demo for UFC Undisputed drops today at 5pm.
MTV interviewed Mike Tyson about his new documentary and managed to slip in a few questions about video games. Surprisingly, he revealed he’s only played “Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out” once in his life, and he’s more of an action/first person shooter game fan.
See you at the Fights.

SecondsOut Radio: Ricky Hatton, David Haye, Future of British Boxing
SecondsOut Radio: Ricky Hatton, David Haye, Future of British Boxing
On this week's edition of SecondsOut Radio, host Eddie Goldman focuses
on the top fighters in boxing in the UK today. We compare where the
careers of Joe Calzaghe, Junior Witter, Amir Khan, Ricky Hatton, David
Haye, and Carl Froch were one year ago with where they are today. And
we comment on the thrilling come-from-behind 12th-round TKO victory
Carl Froch scored over Jermain Taylor this past Saturday night, April
25.
Ricky Hatton, of course, will be facing Manny Pacquiao, regarded by
most as the current pound-for-pound king, this coming Saturday night,
May 2, in Las Vegas. This fight will take place at 140 pounds, where
Hatton is presently regarded as the best fighter in the world. We
spoke with a confident Ricky Hatton on a media conference call this
past week to get his take on this fight.
David Haye, the former cruiserweight champion who relinquished his
belts in that division to move up to heavyweight, will get his wish
for a crack at a heavyweight title when he faces the top fighter in
that weight class, Wladimir Klitschko, June 20 in Germany. David Haye
was in New York this past week for a news conference, and we caught up
with him there for some very poignant comments.
It is free to listen to or download SecondsOut Radio, but you must
