HEAVYWEIGHTS RETURN TO THE MECCA Saturday afternoon, April 20th at Madison Square Garden. Undefeated Irish Tyson Fury vs. two-time champ Steve "USS" Cunningham.

Heavyweight contenders Tyson Fury, 20-0, 14 KOs, and Steve Cunningham, 25-5, 12 KOs, will clash in a highly anticipated 12 round bout that will place the winner on track to fight for the heavyweight championship of the world. Only one man will come away victorious in the rare Saturday afternoon clash taking place at The Theater at Madison Square Garden and broadcasted on NBC at 4:00PM ET, and both fighters are determined to be the one. Victory earns the winner the #2 spot in the IBF world rankings, and puts that fighter just one more step away from facing champion Wladimir Klitschko.

In his first American appearance, Tyson Fury is looking to make his mark as the next big thing in the heavyweight division. At 6' 9" tall, he fits the bill literally, but he will try to prove that his feared punching power can make him the new star of the division.
Fury's outspoken nature at the pre-fight press conference brought him much attention, and he is convinced that he can back up his words with an impressive victory over Steve Cunningham, the most seasoned opponent he's faced thus far.
Cunningham, the former two-time cruiserweight champ who always trains like a Spartan, appears hungrier than ever, thanks to Fury's trash talk. He is determined to prove once and for all that his transition to the heavyweight division was the right move. He came close to making his point in his last fight, but a bad decision stalled his climb up the ratings.
Against Fury, Cunningham will look to prove that in this era of BIG heavyweights, he can defeat a true giant. It's a tall order, but it wasn't that long ago that the average-sized Evander Holyfield defied the odds by rising from the cruiserweight division to capture the biggest title in all of sports. Cunningham believes he can do the same.
One thing is for certain, with so much at stake, this fight between two very different boxers, could be a classic. The bigger, younger, and harder-hitting Fury will try to put his foe on the canvas for a 10-count, while Cunningham tries to unravel his untested opponent with his experience, conditioning and ring smarts.

There is nothing like a heavyweight fight with something on the line, and Fury-Cunningham is such a fight. With both men fighting for the right to advance to a final eliminator for the heavyweight championship of the world, something's got to give.

STEVE CUNNINGHAM HOLDS MEDIA WORKOUT IN PREPARATION FOR TYSON FURY

April 20th at The Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York features a 12-round heavyweight battle between Tyson Fury and Steve Cunningham in the main event. Curtis Stevens will take on Derrick Findley in the 8-round middleweight co-feature. Six additional bouts are planned for the undercard. Doors open at The Theater at Madison Square Garden doors open at 1:15PM ET. The main event and co-feature will be broadcast 4PM ET on NBC as a special 2 hour afternoon presentation of NBC Fight Night. The card is presented byHennessy Sports and Main Events.

The main event is an official IBF Heavyweight Voluntary Eliminator fight for the #2 position. The winner must meet #1 or the leading available contender to establish the mandatory challenger for Heavyweight King Wladimir Klitschko.

Steve "USS" Cunningham held an open media workout at the Rock Ministries Gym in Philadelphia. With a little more than two weeks remaining until the fight, Cunningham, 25-2, 12 KOs, appeared confident, conditioned, and ready to fight Irish import Tyson Fury, 20-0, 14 KOs, a 6' 9" rising star of the heavyweight division. Cunningham went through a light workout for the press before speaking about the upcoming nationally televised fight at The Theater at Madison Square Garden scheduled for Saturday afternoon, April 20th. The Fury - Cunningham battle will be the main event of the 4PM ET broadcast on NBC.

"He wants to get under my skin with his antics, imitating Ali, doing all these tricks," Cunningham said of Fury's trash talking press conference performance from last month. "He wants me to just come in and punch him in the mouth, but I will stick to the game plan and not get out of control. It's all about the game plan."
We're getting ready for the best Tyson Fury that the world has ever seen," Cunningham continued. "He can say what he wants to say. It's only going to make him look bad when he gets beaten by a supposed light heavyweight."
I'm going to utilize my strengths, and we've worked on my weaknesses," Cunningham said. "So you're going to see some different things. You're going to see some things that are the same. I feel great. I feel strong. I feel energetic. I'm excited about this fight."
Cunningham's trainer, Brother Naazim Richardson, said, "Steve Cunningham has been overlooked. He is an intelligent fighter and he's getting smarter all the time. See that's the thing, he's getting smarter all the time if you look at all his fights. In boxing power has always won guys things, but you never see anybody maintain with just power. Never happens...the strongest muscle in your body is that brain and the guy that can use that can find a way to manipulate almost any other person in the ring."

Also fighting on the April 20 card, Philly favorite, Karl "Dynamite" Dargan, 12-0, 6 KO's, participated in the media workout as well. Dynamite is preparing for his 6 round lightweight contest against Sergi Ganjelashvili of Ft Lauderdale, FL, 4-5-1.

Dynamite is ready to fight anyone, " Everything is on point. I'm sure they have an opponent for me, but most of my fights they don't tell me who the opponent is. For me it's not really for the fighter to know who the opponent is. A lot of people say well why not, don't you have to strategize, do this, do that? But that's what your trainer is for. Your trainer has to find out who you're fighting. Your trainer has to find your strategy to beat your opponent. That's not the fighter's job."
Dynamite said, "The main thing for me right now is staying active. The more active I am the better. The better you guys see me. I don't think you guys have even seen the best of me yet as a professional."

Monte Barrett Set To Become “King of New Zealand” Read more: http://www.boxinginsider.com/headlines/monte-barrett-set-to-become-king-of-new-zealand/#

When Monte “Two Gunz” Barrett defeated David Tua last year in the Tuamanator’s back yard Down Under, it looked like the future was rosy for the New York heavyweight boxing veteran.

Alas, things haven’t worked out quite as Barrett [35-9-2, 20 KOs] had planned.

After two exciting fights with the New Zealand native (the first resulted in a controversial draw in Atlantic City in 2010), Barrett had hoped to cash in on a lucrative third bout, but that hope has now been dashed by Tua’s unofficial retirement from the sport.

Barrett has also soured on Tua personally after his name was dragged through the mud with the results of a post-fight drug test last year supposedly showing him testing positive for a banned substance.

The test results ultimately amounted to nothing because of the time it took (over 3 months) for them to be made public, and also because of other procedural irregularities.

Even if Tua were to change his mind on retirement, Barrett tells Boxing Insider that he’s no longer interested in making it a trilogy “because of the way Tua handled the drug test.”

“He could have called me, he has my number, instead of calling me a cheater and a loser in the press,” Barrett, who maintains his innocence in the matter, explains.

Barrett famously called Tua an over-emotional “Queen of New Zealand” while talking to Boxing Insider after the drug test fracas broke out, a quote which was plastered across many major publications in Tua’s homeland.

Tua had been in line for a title shot against a Klitschko brother had he defeated Barrett, yet Barrett has earned no such opportunities after beating Tua once officially, and twice in reality (even Tua admitted he lost their first encounter in Atlantic City).

Instead, Barrett had to sit and watch as Wladimir Klitschko destroyed the totally undeserving Jean Marc Mormeck of France. Undaunted, however, Barrett hopes now to get some measure of revenge on Tua by going to his homeland and becoming the major heavyweight attraction there. He is even toying with the idea of taking up New Zealand citizenship.

“Tua is the Queen of New Zealand, so I figure I’ll be the King,” the always quotable Barrett says.

First up in this royal crusade is a defense of Barrett’s Oriental and Asia Pacific titles against previous Tua victim Shane Cameron (28-2, 21 KOs) on May 31 in New Zealand. Cameron has been fighting at cruiserweight since his 2009 loss to Tua, and has reeled off five straight wins. While Barrett says he “doesn’t feel any pressure to knock out Cameron the way Tua did” (a brutal second round KO), he also notes that his opponent “is susceptible to a lot of punches” and “they’re the punches that I throw.”

“I won’t say which ones,” Barrett slyly adds.

Barrett is now working with a new trainer, Buddy McGirt, and says preparations for the Cameron fight are already underway and “going great.” Should he emerge victorious against Cameron, Barrett may find his regal status Down Under being challenged by none other than local rugby superstar Sonny Bill Williams (5-0, 3 KOs).

A neophyte in the boxing ring, the muscular Williams, 26, nevertheless captured the New Zealand Professional Boxing Association heavyweight title in February with a win over Clarence Tillman.

“I’ll fight [Williams] if they want to see it,” Barrett laughs.

“They say he has million dollar abs.

“I can’t wait to punch him in the gut so he will never want to put on a pair of boxing gloves again. He’ll go back to playing soccer or rugby or whatever for the rest of his life, having nightmares about that punch to the gut.”

The Fight of the Heavyweights: Wladimir Klitschko vs. Jean-Marc Mormeck

Wladimir Klitschko’s next title defense against French Mormeck on March 3, 2012

WBA/IBF/IBO/ WBO World Heavyweight and “The Ring” Champion Wladimir Klitschko will come back to Düsseldorf (Germany) for his next title defense. The undisputed Superchampion of the heavyweight division will be challenged by French Jean-Marc Mormeck at the ESPRIT Arena on March 3. The stadium is the homefield of the German soccer club Fortuna Düsseldorf.

Mormeck is the current WBA International Heavyweight Champion with a professional record of 36 wins (22 KOs) with 4 losses. Two of his losses were early in his career when he lost as an inexperienced fighter in 4th and 5th fights. In 2002, Mormeck became WBA World Cruiserweight Champion when he defeated Virgil Hill. After three successful title defenses he unified the WBA and WBC titles when he stopped unbeaten WBC Champion Wayne Braithwaite. After losing his belts against O`Neil Bell he regained both titles in the rematch the following year.

Mormeck’s last loss was when he was still a cruiserweight to David Haye: After having Haye on the canvas in round 4, Mormeck lost in round 7 by TKO.
In 2009, Mormeck moved to the heavyweight division and has won all his fights since then. He stopped two time world heavyweight title challenger Fres Oquendo and most recently the strong Usbek fighter Timur Ibragimov. Today, Mormeck is rated in the Heavyweight Top 10 rankings of WBA, IBF, WBO and IBO.

For 35-year-old Wladimir Klitschko it is his first appearance in the boxing ring after his impressive domination and title unification against David Haye in July. The professional record of the 1996 Olympic Gold medalist is 56 wins (49 KOs) with only 3 losses. It will be Klitschko’s 20th World Championship fight.

Wladimir Klitschko: “I know that I am the favorite in all my fights but I also know that each opponent is motivated to be in the best shape ever when he fights me. Mormeck is one of the most experienced fighters I have ever faced. He has had many world title fights, has a very good technique, can take a lot of punches and is very intelligent inside the ring. To underestimate him would be a fatal mistake. I am very happy to return to the ESPRIT Arena where I fought against Eddie Chambers. The spectators and the atmosphere for that fight were great and I am sure it will be again this time.”

The fight will be broadcast live on RTL in Germany and also shown in 120 countries worldwide.

WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko vs Dereck Chisora February 18

The fight will air on Epix in the United States, as well as BoxNation in the U.K., and RTL in Germany. Vitali, 40, is a heavy favorite against Chisora, but while many feel the brash Brit mostly talked his way into this fight, he's fought his way here, too.

McBride faces long odds against undefeated Wach‏

Six years ago, Kevin McBride stood in front of a pack of skeptical reporters and promised to hit Mike Tyson so hard the former undisputed heavyweight champion would feel like he was hit by the “whole of Ireland.”

Fans and experts scoffed, but McBride delivered, ending Tyson’s career with a sixth-round knockout that remains one of the biggest upsets in boxing history.

As he prepares for his latest test July 29th, 2011 against undefeated Polish heavyweight Mariusz Wach, McBride – now 38 – is channeling the same swagger he brought to the ring six years ago Tyson, again looking to land a blow powerful enough to reverberate through the streets of his native Clones, Ireland.

“Hopefully, I can connect,” McBride said, “and the Irish will be singing again.”

Three months removed from a unanimous decision loss to former cruiserweight champion Tomasz Adamek, McBride (35-9-1, 29 KOs) will face Wach (24-0, 12 KOs) for the vacant World Boxing Council (WBC) International heavyweight title in the 12-round main event of “Heat Wave,” presented by Jimmy Burchfield’s Classic Entertainment & Sports at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. McBride’s bout against Wach is one of two title fights on July 29th; Elvin Ayala (23-5-1, 11 KOs) of New Haven, Conn., will battle former two-time world champion Israel “Pito” Cardona (36-10, 28 KOs) of Hartford in the 10-round co-feature for the vacant WBC U.S. National Boxing Council (USNBC) middleweight title, a belt once held by former world champions Paul Williams and Lamont Peterson.

Once again, McBride faces long odds; Wach is a shade taller at 6-foot-7 ½ and is also seven years younger than his opponent. Originally from Krakow, Poland, Wach now trains in North Bergen, N.J., under the tutelage of Juan and Carlos De Leon, who are famous for their work with undefeated heavyweight “Baby” Joe Mesi.

Though he’s admittedly unfamiliar with the WBC International title and its illustrious history – Wladimir Klitschko, Oliver McCall and John Ruiz are among a prestigious list of former champions – McBride is well aware of what a victory could mean as his career draws to a close. More than half of the fighters who’ve won this belt have gone on to win a major world title, and the winner on July 29th might get an opportunity to add to that list.

For McBride, it’s now or never; despite beating Tyson, he’s never fought for a major world title. After getting knocked out by Andrew Golota in 2007, he took three years off before returning to the ring last summer against journeyman Zack Page. McBride hasn’t had much success in his comeback, winning only once in four tries within the past year, but he knows it only takes one punch to shock the world and take his career to new heights.

“Every fighter has a dream,” McBride said. “I want to be the second Cinderella story of this century. Everyone counted out [former two-time world heavyweight champion] George Foreman [against Michael Moorer in 1994] and he came back and won a world title when he was 45 years old.

“Foreman proved the last thing that leaves you is your power. I don’t have any particular strategy; I’m just trying to catch him on his chin and prove I’m a better fighter. Don’t leave your seat too quickly, because anything can happen at any given second.”

Ranked No. 13 in the WBC, Wach – who recently signed a multi-year promotional agreement with CES in association with Global Boxing Promotions – began working with the De Leon brothers six weeks ago in hopes of becoming a more versatile boxer, not just a puncher with exceptional power.

“The De Leon brothers have been a great addition to my team,” Wach said. “The experience they have between them has given me a new dimension to my arsenal. Juan has helped improve my power by getting me to commit more to my punches. Carlos [a former four-time cruiserweight champion] has fought so many great fighters and has a world of wisdom to impart; it’s a great honor to have him with me. It’s also comforting to know that whatever situation arises, both men in my corner will have the answers waiting for me.”

“He’s learned a lot,” Juan De Leon said. “Whoever has seen him in the past, he looks nothing like he did eight weeks ago. What I’ve been doing is making sure he uses his distance. He’s tall, has a good jab, has tremendous power, footwork, flexibility – he has everything. My job is to put it all together.

“He was built to throw punches,” he added, “but now we’ve taught him how to move and how to cut off the ring. We’ve taught him to use every inch of the ring. He knows when to push and when to step back. He knows what to do when feels a little tired. When either my brother or I say something, he delivers right away. We’ve got a great team here and we’re excited about the opportunity of having a future world champion on our hands.”

Before he focuses on a world title, Wach must first deal with McBride, who has proven he can excel in the underdog role. The 6-foot-6 slugger became the youngest super heavyweight in Olympic history when he represented Ireland in the 1992 Summer Games, competing amongst a field that included former world-title contender Larry Donald and semifinalist Brian Nielson, who won the International Boxing Organization (IBO) heavyweight title in 1996.

“McBride isn’t the fastest fighter, but he’s very tough and smart,” Wach said. “I'm used to facing tall opponents, but what makes this fight different is that McBride has a lot of experience and doesn't give up easily. He took very strong punches from Mike Tyson and never gave up and never quit when Tomasz Adamek was out-boxing him, so I know I'm in for a good challenge.”

Unlike McBride, Wach understands the significance of the WBC International title and has one eye toward the future as he prepares for July 29th. The Klitschkos – both Wladimir and WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko – are waiting in the wings for whichever contender dares to challenge them next.

“It is an honor to have the opportunity to fight for this title, because it brings me one step closer to a fight with one of the Klitschko brothers for the world title,” Wach said.

“I want the opportunity to fight the best in the world, but I know I must earn it first, and this is part of that. This belt is essential to my heavyweight championship dreams coming true. All the great fighters have won belts like this one before facing the legends of their day. The legends of my day have won this belt, and so will I.”

Whether or not Wach succeeds depends on McBride’s ability to land his trademark knockout punch. McBride isn’t interested in trying to outbox the taller, rangier Wach on July 29th; his goal is to connect squarely on the chin, perhaps with a blow strong enough to make an entire country feel the aftershock.

“He better watch out,” McBride said. “I’m going to go in there and take care of business. I fight with no fear. This guy is undefeated – God bless him – but I’m not here to lose. I’ve got 29 knockouts, so I must be doing something right.

“This is a great opportunity, and wherever there’s an opportunity, there’s a chance.”

The undercard of “Heat Wave” features Pawtucket, R.I., middleweight Thomas Falowo (3-0, 3 KOs) facing Russ Niggemyer (2-2, 2 KOs) of Hilliard, Ohio; New Haven welterweight Edwin Soto (6-0-1, 2 KOs) battling Jose Duran (6-5-2, 3 KOs) of Sarasota, Fla.; undefeated heavyweight Artur Spzilka of Poland (5-0, 3 KOs) facing Philadelphia’s David Williams (6-4-1, 2 KOs), and New Bedford, Mass., welterweight Johnathan Vazquez (4-0, 3 KOs) taking on Agustine Maurus of Lawrence, Mass., in Maurus’ debut. Cruiserweight Jose Torres of Springfield, Mass., will make his debut against Orion Sistrunk (5-25-1, 1 KO) of Philadelphia; super middleweight Greg McCoy (2-3-1, 1 KO) of New Haven will fight in a separate four-round bout; and super middleweight Keith Kozlin (6-2, 4 KOs) of Warwick, R.I., will face Woonsocket’s Reynaldo Rodriguez (5-2, 2 KOs) in a six-round intrastate showdown. Also, former “The Contender” reality television star Jeff Fraza (17-3, 10 KOs) of Haverhill, Mass., will face Pawtucket, R.I., light middleweight Eddie Soto (12-2, 4 KOs) in a six-round bout. All fights and fighters are subject to change.

(David) Haye Fever spreading fast: Guru Bos feels it but sage Elbaum resists

Haye Fever, that’s what I’m calling it.

It’s a condition marked by unbridled optimism bordering on euphoria. Those are the symptoms and they are affecting the brains of fight fans worldwide who are falling into what some would say is a mental trap, into thinking that brash British heavyweight David “Hayemaker” Haye is going to pull off a shocking upset in Hamburg Saturday night by scrambling Wladimir Klitschko.

One boxing maven not afflicted with Haye Fever is ageless promoter-matchmaker-bon vivant Don Elbaum.

Permanently known as the man who got another Don, last name King, started in the boxing promotion field, Elbaum could make a weasel type prediction on the big heavyweight matchup which will be screened live by HBO in the USA.

You know, one of those prognostications in which the predictor says Billy can win in the early rounds, either fighter can triumph in the middle frames and Joey will be the winner if it goes past 10 rounds.

No namby-pamby stuff like that for The Donald.

“Nah,” Elbaum said by phone Wednesday from his Pennsylvania mini-mansion. “I am picking Klitschko early and I’m picking Klitschko late. I’m picking Klitschko in the middle rounds as well.”

Elbaum, like many, believes Haye’s best ability is salesmanship, not in winning fights.

“Haye has been great in selling this fight, no doubt,” Elbaum said. “But that can’t change the fact that Haye’s got no chin and Klitschko whacks.

“Also, Wladimir can be so careful, so methodical, I don’t see him taking any big chance, doing anything to expose himself to David. Haye’s best battle plan is to jump on Klitschko from the opening bell but Klitschko will just jab, hold and then jab, hold.”

Meanwhile, down in Clearwater, Florida, fight guru Johnny Bosdal, better known as the Wizard of Bos, sees a better chance for the decided underdog.

“Haye can knock him out if he puts real pressure on the guy,” Bos said. “Haye is a real, genuine puncher.”

I wrapped it up with Bos then as I was fearful of having a runny nose.

Haye Fever is spreading fast.

But will it last beyond Saturday night?

My fearless forecast? Now I do have this fistic allergy.

Haye gets lucky, comes off the deck early to stop Wladimir in the sixth round.

Brother Vitali then vows familial revenge.

SKIP "STRICTLY BUSINESS" SCOTT Comments on July 2nd Heavyweight Championship fight between Klitschko vs Haye

Are you excited about the up coming fight between Klitschko and Haye?

I am excited. It is a very interesting fight and has been talked about for three years.

What were your thoughts when you saw the fight was finally made?

Exactly that, finally! But I do know it is a business and Haye did an incredible job promoting the fight and talking it up, so he not only has European fans interested but actually the World is going to be watching this fight. We haven't had that kind of excitement in the Heavyweight division in years.
Who do you think is happier that the fight is finally made Klitschko or Haye?

That is easy, Haye! He gets a chance to be the Undisputed Heavyweight Champion of the World and his biggest pay day he has ever had. Not bad. Not bad at all!

Who do you think will win the fight and how will that fighter win?

Ouch...that is a million dollar question! I believe it will not go into round 7. You have two hard punchers with questionable chins. Both fighters have been knocked out. At the same time Klitschko's defense and the ability to avoid big punches has improved incredibly well with Emanuel Stewart working with him. Haye has fought tall fighters but none of them are the same as the jab and right hand he will face with Klitschko. I think you will see some interesting movement from both in the first three rounds......then we will see a dogfight...Haye's speed could be an advantage in a slugfest in close.

Do you think the outcome of fight will affect the Heavyweight division and why?

Only if Haye wins. Everyone is ready for a change in the Heavyweight division. It will open a lot of doors and bring some talking back to the division.

If you had to choose which guy you would rather fight?

I would love to fight either, especially Klitschko. He has been champion for the last few years and I think my style would give him problems. I can outjab him because I have a longer reach. He has more experience than me but my heart and desire to win would prevail. He is a great champion but it's getting close to my time to shine. America needs a heavyweight they can be proud of that can box and slug....I'm that guy.

So what if Haye wins would you fight him?

In a New York minute. Yes, he is fast and quick and packs a punch but so do I. I am just as fast as Haye if not faster. My speed is very deceptive because of my size. Not only can I fight at a distance but I can fight in close and when he tries to get close to me he will get hit with jaw breaking uppercuts. So yes I would love to fight Haye, and I wish him the best of luck against Klitschko cause win, lose or draw one of those guys will have to fight me if not both and I am up for the challenge.

Recently...in fact...this past weekend HBO featured a heavyweight fight.

What were your thoughts about the Stiverne vs Austin fight?

If anyone can bring the heavyweights back into the picture is Don King knows that arena well. Stiverne is a new upcoming prospect with a little 'pop' in his punches. Austin still has good experience. I would love to fight either one and sincerely believe I would stop both earlier than the 10th round.

Looking at your record you haven't fought an eight round fight yet.

Are you ready for 8 to 10 rounders?

Absolutely! I train and spar 10-12 rounds. Look ...I've taken my time to do this right so I can be the best heavyweight America can produce. I'm throwing 60 punches a round...every round. I'm jabbing like a heavyweight should. I am a fierce body puncher. I'm ready for television. My agent/promoter, Kerry Daigle, has two to three more fights lined up this year for me. From there...As Mills Lane would say, "Let's get it on"!!

Macklin hoping Haye isn't KO'd by the scorecards

Macklin hoping Haye isn't KO'd by the scorecards

Matthew Macklin hopes that the uproar surrounding his controversial points defeat to WBA World Middleweight Champion Felix Sturm in Germany at the weekend will decrease the chances of David Haye suffering a similar fate against Wladimir Klitschko in Hamburg this Saturday.

Macklin appeared to have done more than enough to rip Sturm's title away in front of a sell out crowd of almost 20,000 at the Lanxess Arena in Cologne only for two of the three scoring judges to deny him his World title dream.

The decision baffled many of those in attendance and the millions watching worldwide on SAT.1 in Germany, Sky Sports in the UK and Ireland and on Epix in the U.S. A viewers poll on the SAT.1 website spoke volumes with 76% of German's polled believing that Macklin had won the fight as opposed to just 24% for Sturm.

The German media were equally outraged with headlines since the fight such as, "A Sturm of Indignation", "German Boxing Disgrace", "Miscarriage of Justice" and "Fluke Victory".

Macklin hopes that the uproar will benefit David Haye should his clash with Klitschko be decided on the scorecards. "I think David has the power and speed to knock Klitschko out anyway and take it out of the judges hands but if it goes to the scorecards then I think the spotlight will really be on the judges after my fight and hopefully David will get a fair shake," said Macklin.

"I got back from Germany yesterday but the fan's over there were coming up to me and apologising for the decision. I think they have been very embarrassed by it and the German media reports on the fight have reflected that. One of the papers even reported that Felix needed to have TV make up applied so that he would look a little better at the post fight press conference!

"I believe I was the better man on the night and it seems to me that almost everyone aside from those two judges who scored for Sturm saw it the same way. It was a tough fight but I thought I was a clear winner.

"After the fight I asked him for a rematch and he told me 'I'm a man, I will give you a rematch'.

He knows I beat him and he's embarrassed by that decision so if he's the fighter I think he is I'm sure he will want to put it right but if not then I won't lose any sleep over it and I will move on. In our hearts we both know that I won that fight hands down. I proved that I belong at the highest level and this has only made me more determined than ever to succeed."

Macklin's manager Brian Peters says that the support from the boxing community worldwide has been heartening. "A lot of very respected people within the sport have spoken out on the decision and it's been great to receive that kind of support. Thomas Hauser and Dan Rafael are among two of the most widely read commentators on the sport and they both had Matthew winning by scores of 117 - 111 and Lennox Lewis said it was 'highway robbery' and one of the worst decisions he'd seen. The former World Heavyweight title challenger Axel Schulz was commentating for German TV and he had Matthew winning by three rounds.

"We've been inundated with emails from German fans expressing their disgust at the decision and Felix's own Facebook page has been flooded with negative comments as well from Germans so that tells it's own story."

Team Macklin's views have been supported by some heavy hitters in the boxing world from those inside and outside the ropes via Twitter and other outlets. A selection of those include:

Lennox Lewis - Former undisputed World Heavyweight Champion

"Highway Robbery! One of the worst decisions I've seen. Macklin won that fight hands down."

Lou DiBella - Promoter of WBC Middleweight Champion, Sergio Martinez

"GREAT JOB Matthew Macklin. Team Martinez respects your performance and your heart, CHAMP. Sergio Martinez will not go to Germany for Sturm!"

Thomas Hauser - Muhammad Ali's biographer and award winning boxing writer

From Hauser's column on The Sweet Science: http://www.thesweetscience.com/news/articles-frontpage/12838-boxing-pure-vs-phony

"Sturm fought Matthew Macklin in the "champion's" hometown of Cologne, Germany. The bout was televised in the United States live on Epix. It was understood going in that, if there was an outrageous decision, it would be in Sturm's favor. Felix might be a better boxer than Matthew. But on Saturday, Macklin fought a better fight. He clearly won eight of the twelve rounds. Two more were close.

I scored the fight 117-111 for Macklin. Judge Levi Martinez scored it 115-113 for Matthew, which was a bit of a stretch in Sturm's favour.

Then came the obscenity. Judges Roberto Ramirez and Jose Ignacio Martinez each scored the bout for Sturm by a 116-112 margin.

The decision was unfair to Macklin, who has made every sacrifice necessary to get to the point in his career where he was positioned to win a belt."

Dan Rafael - ESPN.com boxing writer and television commentator

"Terrific fight too but bad decision. Macklin robbed. I had it 117-111 for Matthew on the EPIX broadcast.

Rafael's ESPN.com Fight Report excerpt: http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/boxing/columns/story?columnist=rafael_dan&id=6708031

"Of course, Macklin was on Sturm's turf, and Germany is notorious for hometown decisions. This was one of them. Although Sturm said he thought he won in his postfight interview, he seemed almost embarrassed and offered Macklin a rematch. Macklin, who showed class after the outrageous decision, simply outfought Sturm the entire fight, and it did not even seem all that close. He should have won and can at least know that he made a big impression in his first major fight on the world stage. He made it exciting and proved he is one of the world's best middleweights, with or without an alphabet belt around his waist."

Carl Froch - Current WBC Super Middleweight champion and upcoming super six finalist

"Just got home & watched Macklin beat Sturm 116-112 at least. Jim WATT was you watching?!"

Joe Calzaghe - Former World Super Middleweight Champion

"Thought Macklin won! But not surprised he didn't get decision. Predictable home town decision!"

Chris Mannix - Sports Illustrated's Boxing Writer

"Welcome to boxing, everyone. 2 judges gave 8 rounds to Sturm, an absolutely disgusting scoring - home turf decision."

"Feel bad for Macklin. Worked hard for that opportunity. Hope the rematch is with better judges on EpixHD."

"This is why Felix Sturm rarely fights outside of Germany. How two judges can have that big a gap in the scoring is mind boggling. Matthew Macklin was the aggressor, landed cleaner shots and did phenomenal body work. Fought the best fight he possibly could. Sturm was sluggish and didn’t get it going until the later rounds. In any other country, this fight is a clear decision for Matthew Macklin."

Al Bernstein - Veteran Boxing analyst for Showtime in the US

"Just watched Sturm - Macklin on Epix. One of worst decisions I have ever seen - maybe THE worst."

"Macklin threw twice as many punches, landed at least twice as many and pushed Sturm back whole fight."

Jean-Marcel Nartz - Germany's European Boxing Union Council member

"The decision was a blatant miscarriage of justice."

Interview with “Relentless” Lamon Brewster; www.Fightingconnection.com, will revolutionize not just "Boxing but all full contact sports!"

By Pattee Mak on June 18, 2011

Pattee: Hello Mr. Brewster! Currently you are retired from boxing. Your last fight was January 30, 2010 against Robert Helenius in Germany. He won by TKO in the 8th. Can you tell me what happened in that match?

BREWSTER: That particular night was a tragedy because when we got to the venue we arrived at about 7:00 pm and I was suppose to go on at 9:00 pm and so when we got there we walked pasted my opponent’s room and went to my room and I didn’t have a room. They put me in a room with 10 of other guys. But I understand that because I was the opponent.

Now when a fighter wraps his hands he wraps it an hour to an hour and a half before the fight. Normally that is what a fighter does. Because if you wrap it too soon the wraps gets soft. So we sat around for 30 minutes and we waited to wrap my hands and they told us don’t worry about it just wrap your hands. What do you mean don’t worry about it. They said that because Helenius already wrapped his hands. I’ve never been to a fight or anywhere were I wasn’t allowed to watch someone wrap their hands. So basically they said if I didn’t fight they were gonna sue me. So I came to fight that’s who I am, I’m a fighter. So I’m fighting this guy and I just remembered when I got to the 6th round at the beginning of every round I was seeing white and I couldn’t see into the first 30 seconds of each round. I thought maybe he had something in his gloves. I didn’t know what to make of it. During the 6th round in the first 30 seconds he landed a punch and I was blinded in both my eyes and was seeing white. At the 8th round after I was blinded he kept throwing punches and I couldn’t see so the referee stopped the fight. I never did get a chance to inspect his gloves after the fight. So after that I went back to Los Angeles that same night and I had a whole lot of cuts across my eyelids as if you took a razor across my eyelids. I never experienced anything like this because those types of cuts are never like that for a fighter. Even my doctor couldn’t understand it either as it isn’t conclusive to boxing. Afterwards I thought I could have died in the ring.

Pattee: How are you feeling now?

BREWSTER: I had 4 surgeries last year and I have another surgery next month and hopefully this surgery will repair my vision for my left eye. The Doctor said I have a slit across my iris and cornea. Whatever was on his glove cut it and once it started to heal, it infused my eyelid together. They have to give me a cornea transplant. Being a man of faith I believe God closes one door and opens another.

Pattee: OMG! That is awful.

Pattee: What titles did you hold as a professional boxer?

BREWSTER: NABA heavyweight title, WBO heavyweight title, WBO NABO heavyweight title and the WBC Continental Americas heavyweight title.

Pattee: Currently you are involved in a new adventure you are putting together which is an up and coming website called www.fightingconnection.com. How did this come about?

BREWSTER: It’s going to launch this August. I came up with this because a lot of times when I was getting ready to go to camp my trainer would say this is a fight and we would have to find sparring partners to train me for this particular fight and so I always ask someone if they know someone so I can get them to my training camp. Well that is such a headache because lets say I do find someone and you find that person, well say he gets hurts then you need to find someone else or someone to fight a certain way. It’s really hard and I got frustrated and I knew there has to be a better way. So I was talking with a few people and we were brainstorming and I said I was going to have a search engine built. For instance, if I was going to fight a guy who’s 6 feet, 2 inches tall and weighs 225 pounds and he’s a right hand fighter and a boxer who moves to his left, I would go to my website and put all the information in and let it bring up everyone around the world with those same criterias. I personally asked myself the questions to build this site. Nobody knows better than me when they go to camp. I been in camp with guys that I couldn’t open up 100 percent because if I did, I was afraid to hurt them because then I’d have to look again for someone to train with. A lot of times I’d leave my wife on vacation and want to work out. Man let me try to find a gym. So I’d look in the yellow pages or phone book. Now you go to my website, type in the country, zip code, providence etc etc and you click what you are looking for, boxing, mma, mauy thia and press enter and it’ll bring up everything in that region. I believe the cut man is very important to me because when you go to a fight you only get 2 tickets one for you and the other for your trainer. So what me and my trainer would do is once we registered in we would always find someone who was walking around with a bucket and give them $50.00 to work my corner. 9 times out of 10 they would say yes. Although this worked, I got frustrated at that. So now I made it easier for everyone. You’d just type in I’m looking for a cut man, when, where and hit search and the site will bring up all cut men available. I even added a star rating next to the cut man so everyone can vote and see their ratings.

Pattee: Who is Sam Simon and how was he involved with the show “The Simpsons”?

BREWSTER: Well “The Simpsons” was a show that was created by my former manger. He actually created Bart Simpson. He helped me and went beyond the call of being a manager. He is considered to be family. He was instructing me to fight for the world title.

Pattee: On 4-10-2004 you fought Wladimir Klitschko at Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada and won the vacant WBO heavyweight title by TKO in the 5th round. On 7-7-2007 there was a rematch in Germany for the IBF heavyweight title and the IBO heavyweight title. You lost that fight due to your trainer stopping the fight in the 6th round. Can you compare these two fights?

BREWSTER: Let me tell you about that fight. Everyone knows I suffered a detached retina. During that time, I was lying faced down for almost 6 months. It took me a year and a half to recover fully. When the word got out I was coming back to boxing because of my recovery, Klitschko’s people approached me to fight and I said no problem and I want to have a tune up fight beforehand because I’ve been out a year and a half. Well they said no and we’ll pay you extra not to have a tune up fight. So they paid me more than I’ve ever made, even when I had the title. In the 6th round my eye started to swell up and I was very rusty in the fight. So they were worried and thinking something will happen to my eye.

Pattee: Your prediction on the Klitschko-Haye fight coming up?

BREWSTER: I think it’ll be a tricky one to predict because of the fact you can’t count out Haye because he’s proven to be a smart and crafty fighter but at the same time I myself know first hand what it means to be a heavyweight champion and not wanting to give up your title. Klitschko is fighting for legacy whereas Haye is fighting for glory. You got two different mindsets coming into a fight. I think the one that has the best strategy and the most determination will win and no one can go in and say so and so will win but as a fan it could go anyway. Both are proven to have great skill.

Pattee: Out of all your 41 fights, which one was the most difficult?

BREWSTER: Hmmm… was when I lost my title to Siarhei Liakhovich because I was blind and fought 12 rounds and lost. I was in so much pain. I could only breathe through one nostril. I had a one-piece mouthpiece and I couldn’t open my mouth. I had previously broken my nostril in camp. They gave the fight of the decade to someone I know I could have knocked out. Even if I couldn’t see I could have knocked him out but I couldn’t see.

Pattee: From your professional debut on 11-8-1996 in Las Vegas, Nevada through your 23rd fight you never lost a bout. Then on 5-6-2000 you fought Clifford Etienne in Pennsylvania and that all came to an end. What happened?

BREWSTER: I lost my cool because I trained to box him and then when I arrived to fight him I was like this is my first time on HBO, I’m “Relentless” Lamon Brewster and I said he’s been in prison so I’m going to go in there and knock him out. Well you can only practice what you preach and in boxing camp you are trained to box and then when I got to the ring I let the crowd overwhelm me and I let it get the best of me. I never came to the ring with game plan. I was throwing bad punches and I missed. He practiced to brawl and I came to box. My football coach had a quote: “Do it right, do it light. Do it wrong, do it long”.

Pattee: You started fighting at the young age of 7. Usually a typical 7 year old would be playing with GI Joes. How did you get into boxing?

BREWSTER: My mother said I had too much energy because I would tear up all the toys she purchased me. There was a community center down the street from me but didn’t offer anything for a 7 year old but the coach liked my mother so they allowed me to start training for boxing.

Pattee: You have an impressive amateur record of 70-10. Tell me about the 1995 US heavyweight championship as an amateur?

BREWSTER: It was a great career and run. I should have went to the Olympics. I was picked to go but at the same time I went through a divorce and when that happened it was the worse thing that could have happened to me. I was the team caption. I traveled the world with Floyd Mayweather, Antonio Tarver and David Reed who one the gold medal.

Pattee: Are you currently still do any type of boxing training? If so where and who is training you?

BREWSTER: No I haven’t been able to do anything because of the eye surgery. There is so much pressure. If I stand for a long period of time I get a headache because of the eye surgery.

Pattee: Which boxer did you admire the most while growing up?

BREWSTER: Marvin Hagler. He was a man’s man. I admired the fact that he was a man’s man. He didn’t care to be glamorous. He came to fight. He didn’t have the entourage, fancy cars or the big jewelry. He was a warrior and came to fight. Every time he went to the ring he came to fight. I also admire Julio Chavez because he was a beast and a great fighter and best fighter of all time.

Pattee: Is there anyone you would have liked to fight?

BREWSTER: I just wished I would have fought Wladimir Klitschko when I was right. He knows and I know he can’t beat me. I regret I didn’t get to tune up. I wish I could have had a rematch and a 3rd fight. Even in the 2nd fight he only hit me with a jab and run and no big shots and then I swelled up. He knows and I know he can’t beat me.

You can follow Lamon Brewster on facebook and sign up on www.FightingConnection. Com. He hopes that people see him for what he stands for and people see him as being successful. He wants people to see him as a role model and a role model of faith. No one gave him a chance and he overcame everything through his faith and determination and he wants to set an example that you can do anything you set your mind to do.

David Haye and Wladimir Klitschko Face Off Video

KLITSCHKO vs HAYE - FACE OFF WITH MAX KELLERMAN; Two of the world's greatest heaveyweights take shots at each other outside the ring. Watch the explosive Klitschko vs. Haye Face Off interview with Max Kellerman right here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JjEl_FgAw5g&feature=youtu.be

David Haye is sick and tired of Wladimir Klitschko’s image as the ‘good guy’ of world boxing. With less than two weeks to go before their unification bout in Hamburg, Germany, he is desperate to set the record straight.

Last week David Haye hosted a media workout in London, as he gets ready. David Haye and Wladimir Klitschko get intense on HBO‘s Faceoff with Max Kellerman.

“With the earrings and the flashy flash, the man wants to be a woman. David Haye’s a woman in my eyes and the eyes of a lot of fans.”

“He’s clearly a dickhead… he’s doesn’t got a fucking clue to what he’s talking about… July 2 you’re getting knocked unconscious, you’re gonna be crawling around the floor like you were against Corrie Sanders and Lamon Brewster.”

David Hayemaker Haye's shocker: I'll KO Klitschko, quit with money and marbles

WBA heavyweight champion Britain’s David Haye takes on WBO, IBO and IBF heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko in one of the most anticipated fights of the decade.

David Haye will never do it, never. It’s impossible, really.

When he fights heavyweight champ Wladimir Klitschko July 2 before 50,000 in Hamburg, Haye certainly can upset the odds and lay claim to the throne.

Simply put, it’s a matter of Haye’s suspect chin (see super middleweight Lolenga Mock decking him in video, going way back to Sept. 26, 2003, not betraying him before he crack Wlad’s lantern jaw with some Hayemakers.

But upsetting Wladimir is not what many think is the impossible feat.

You see, in what may be the most intriguing storyline in boxing these days, Hayes continue to insist against all sensible arguments that, after he whips Wlad, he will retire from the ring on or before his 31stbirthday on Oct. 13.

One keen UK fight observer, Daily Mail pundit Lord Jeff Powell, told me Tuesday he thinks Haye is sincere and dedicated to fulfilling this somewhat odd double goal.

“I think David really means what he says,” Powell told me by phone from London. “He’s got a movie lined up after the fight. It will be shot in Miami, based on his life and he’ll play himself.

“David says he’s got big plans away from boxing so I see no reason to disbelieve him. He doesn’t waver on the retirement deadline or on how he will shock Wladimir.”

Powell, who just visited Klitschko and trainer Emanuel Steward at the champ’s Austrian mountaintop training lair, said he fancies the British Bulldog's chances.

“David’s got the punch to do it although we know how formidable Klitschko is,” the veteran columnist said. “I have an optimistic feeling. Maybe British boxing is on the upswing, first the continuing success of Carl Froch and Amir Khan in the lower weights and now Haye has the big opportunity. Haye winning a heavyweight crown would really be the icing on the cake.”

It’s nothing new, really, Haye has listed quitting while he’s still age 30 as a premier goal for a couple of years.

“I want to get out with two things, money and marbles,” Haye said as quoted by Pat Sheehan in huge tabloid The Sun on Nov. 15, 2010. “I don’t want to ruin my health.”

As bad examples of fighters who lingered too long, Haye usually mentions Muhammad Ali, Sugar Ray Leonard and the still wobbling Roy Jones.

Klitschko, whose fellow champ and brother Vitali fights redoubtable Pole Tomasz Adamek in Poland on Sept. 10, is going to come out fast and aggressive, or at least Haye thinks so.

And the Hayemaker says he’d like a fast pace.

“I’ve got to put him in a dogfight real quick,” Haye said.

Haye had orginally planned to thump both Klitschko Brothers, then hang it up at age 30 but obviously Vitali won't face Adamek on Sept. 10 and then fight again the next month.

So Haye scratched the beating both brothers goal.

If Haye does both, whips Klitschko and then quits the ring, it will be one of the most fascinating fistic stories ever.

The smart money says he won’t win and then abruptly quit.

But, then again, the smart money is on Klitschko and his 49 knockouts in 55 victories.

Won’t it be fun if the smart money winds up looking stupid?
