David Haye claims he has been handed the chance to meet Vitali Klitschko for the WBC heavyweight title

David Haye claims he has been handed the chance to meet Vitali Klitschko for the WBC heavyweight title.

Haye, who retired from boxing in November but has always said he would return to the ring to fight Klitschko, will attempt to go one better than rival Dereck Chisora.

Chisora lost to Klitschko on a unanimous points decision in Munich last month - and, at the post-fight press conference, he brawled with Haye. Chisora has subsequently been banned indefinitely by the WBC, while he also faces a British Boxing Board of Control (BBBC) hearing.

Haye is yet to be punished, but he could face sanctions if and when he looks to get a licence from the BBBC, which has hinted Haye's application would not be helped by his actions in Munich.

But that was apparently not a concern of Haye's on Saturday when, on the night Wladimir Klitschko defeated Jean-Marc Mormeck, he took to Twitter.

Haye tweeted: "Vitali has just finally agreed to fight me in a live [German television station] RTL interview!!! He told me I will be his next fight!! Let's Get Ready To Rumble!!! :D".

Vitali has called out Haye for what is likely to be one of the Ukrainian's final fights before hanging up his gloves to focus on a political career.

The Fight of the Heavyweights: Wladimir Klitschko vs. Jean-Marc Mormeck

Wladimir Klitschko’s next title defense against French Mormeck on March 3, 2012

WBA/IBF/IBO/ WBO World Heavyweight and “The Ring” Champion Wladimir Klitschko will come back to Düsseldorf (Germany) for his next title defense. The undisputed Superchampion of the heavyweight division will be challenged by French Jean-Marc Mormeck at the ESPRIT Arena on March 3. The stadium is the homefield of the German soccer club Fortuna Düsseldorf.

Mormeck is the current WBA International Heavyweight Champion with a professional record of 36 wins (22 KOs) with 4 losses. Two of his losses were early in his career when he lost as an inexperienced fighter in 4th and 5th fights. In 2002, Mormeck became WBA World Cruiserweight Champion when he defeated Virgil Hill. After three successful title defenses he unified the WBA and WBC titles when he stopped unbeaten WBC Champion Wayne Braithwaite. After losing his belts against O`Neil Bell he regained both titles in the rematch the following year.

Mormeck’s last loss was when he was still a cruiserweight to David Haye: After having Haye on the canvas in round 4, Mormeck lost in round 7 by TKO.
In 2009, Mormeck moved to the heavyweight division and has won all his fights since then. He stopped two time world heavyweight title challenger Fres Oquendo and most recently the strong Usbek fighter Timur Ibragimov. Today, Mormeck is rated in the Heavyweight Top 10 rankings of WBA, IBF, WBO and IBO.

For 35-year-old Wladimir Klitschko it is his first appearance in the boxing ring after his impressive domination and title unification against David Haye in July. The professional record of the 1996 Olympic Gold medalist is 56 wins (49 KOs) with only 3 losses. It will be Klitschko’s 20th World Championship fight.

Wladimir Klitschko: “I know that I am the favorite in all my fights but I also know that each opponent is motivated to be in the best shape ever when he fights me. Mormeck is one of the most experienced fighters I have ever faced. He has had many world title fights, has a very good technique, can take a lot of punches and is very intelligent inside the ring. To underestimate him would be a fatal mistake. I am very happy to return to the ESPRIT Arena where I fought against Eddie Chambers. The spectators and the atmosphere for that fight were great and I am sure it will be again this time.”

The fight will be broadcast live on RTL in Germany and also shown in 120 countries worldwide.

Chisora promoter Frank Warren: Dereck defeating Vitali Klitschko would be the biggest upset‏

Chisora promoter Frank Warren: Dereck defeating Vitali Klitschko would be the biggest upset‏; "I’ve been involved in a lot of good things during my 30 odd years in boxing – Ricky Hatton stopping Kostya Tszyu, Joe Calzaghe schooling Jeff Lacy, Danny Williams smashing up Mike Tyson – but if Chisora can pull this off it’ll be the biggest upset of the lot," said Warren, who also promoted big men such as Herbie Hide (who reclaimed the WBO heavyweight belt when he dropped Tony Tucker thrice in a two round technical knockout) as well as Frank Bruno (a champion of the WBC title when he slayed Oliver McCall)."Herbie had everything in his favour and beat an old man in Tony Tucker and I always fancied Bruno would beat Oliver McCall because, though he had certain limitations, Frank was very fit and I’d seen how McCall had really struggled to cope with Larry Holmes’s jab when Larry was a very old man."Everything is against Dereck," he said, in a situation that contrasts both Hide's and Bruno's. "Unfortunately, we’re on the pauper’s side of the fence in negotiations and, as Vitali is obliging us with a voluntary defence, we’ve had to agree to a lot of things that we’d not have accepted had we been in a mandatory position. But Dereck is adamant that he wants the big fights and we can’t deliver any bigger than this."Chisora (15-2-0, 9ko) has been prophesying an eighth round stoppage in his favour, an outcome Warren believes is a "very big call". Warren also praised both Vitali and Wladimir as they are both "phenomenal" prizefighters and "easily the best of their generation", however, what the British hall of fame promoter desires most, is fair judging, something Chisora did not benefit from when he took the fight to Robert Helenius yet was pilfered at ringside due to controversial scoring."It’s a big ask to expect to receive a decision against [Klitschko] in Germany. I just hope the judges won’t be fazed as they were in Finland. The public aren’t stupid. They know who’s won the fight so why cheat them?"Assessing Chisora's best chances of success, Warren explained that father time could creep up on Vitali on Saturday evening: "Vitali’s knocking on and I suspect he isn’t comfortable with a lot of speed and movement. If Dereck is able to emulate the workrate and desire that he showed against Robert Helenius, and can maintain the confidence to constantly apply pressure, he’ll give Vitali a lot to think about."I’ll certainly be having a good wager on him."♔EL Boxing Empress & MMA Princess♔, See you at the Fights and Thank You for your time.EL Boxing Empress Online @ Twitter http://www.twitter.com/Keishamorrisey ©®™ 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 All photos other than specified by "EL Boxing Empress & MMA Princess" Keisha Morrisey, for ♔Empire Morrisey Photo-Studios♔, KCKMT for Bloodline Boxing Communications Entertainment and ★Starlite★ Boxing's Sweetscience Magnews-Online Publication all rights reserved.

Vitali Klitschko defends WBC heavyweight championship against Dereck Chisora in Munich, Germany on February, 18

Vitali Klitschko defends WBC heavyweight championship against Dereck Chisora in Munich, Germany on February, 18

Two-time WBC World Heavyweight Champion Vitali Klitschko will defend his title against Dereck Chisora at the Olympiahalle Munich, Germany on February, 18, 2012.

Dereck „Del Boy“ Chisora is 27 years old and is rated in the Top 15 in the WBC world rankings. From 2010 until 2011, Chisora was the Commonwealth and British heavyweight champion. In his last fight, Chisora lost a very controversial split decision against Robert Helenius in his hometown of Helsinki, Finland. Every boxing fan that watched this fight thought that Chisora clearly won and should be the real European champion. Dereck Chisora‘s fight record is 15 wins (9 KOs) with two defeats.

Dereck Chisora: „Wladimir Klitschko did not fight me last year so I am now going to get the world championship belt from his older brother Vitali. I will show Vitali that his time is over and make him retire. After I beat Vitali, if Wladimir wants revenge I will also fight him and take all their heavyweight championship belts back to London!“

Vitali Klitschko is 40 years old with a professional record of 43-2 with 40 KOs. His two defeats came as a result of injuries and he never lost his title in the ring. Klitschko has the highest knock out percentage of any world champion with 93 percent. Vitali Klitschko is the fourth boxer along with Muhammad Ali, Evander Holyfield and Lennox Lewis to win a heavyweight championship belt for the third time. It will be Klitschko’s 16th World Heavyweight Championship fight in Munich.

Vitali Klitschko: „Chisora has proven in his last fights that he is very strong with his infighting. His strong performance against Helenius showed that he should be the European champion but I won’t be intimidated by his trash talking.”

In Germany, Klitschko vs. Chisora will be shown live and exclusively on Klitschko’s German TV partner RTL.

Kevin "Kingpin" Johnson; WINS IN GEORGIA‏

Last night, former heavyweight title challenger, Kevin "Kingpin" Johnson, added another win to his record, scoring a first round knockout over Harold Sconiers in the main event at the Elder Entertainment Center in Decatur, Georgia.

It was the third consecutive win, and second by knockout, since Johnson's decision loss in his first heavyweight championship opportunity against Vitali Klitschko. Johnson who has vowed to return to championship form, is slowly working his way back into the title contention, as he is now ranked #15 in the WBC. Look for Kingpin, who improved to 25-1-1, 11KO's with the win, to be back in action very soon, as he looks to stay active and work his way back into the title picture.

Nevada.

We examine Arreola's career, the potential for him to get a title shot
against WBC champion Vitali Klitschko, how he might fare, how he has
strong support from the boxing establishment, but also how he may be
blowing the opportunity of a lifetime by not training properly and
continuing to come into the ring carrying too much weight.

David Haye vs Vitali Klitschko

The Men’s Health website just release a picture of the British boxer David Haye holding Vitali’s brother Wladimir Klitschko’s severed head. It’s gory. It’s deliberately provocative. And like most boxing trash-talk, it’s also (I think) quite funny. But when Haye’s team tossed a copy of the issue at Vitali in a German restaurant, he reportedly went beserk, grabbing Haye by the collar and vowing brutal revenge.

David Haye has enraged the Ukrainian heavyweight Vitali Klitschko so much that he has agreed to fight Haye in June, probably for a world title.

The Ukrainian was later reported to have said: “It is difficult to describe my feelings. There is David Haye on the photo laughing with the head of my brother… he overstepped the mark. He must pay for this photo… I will enter the ring with a cold heart.”

Between them, the Klitschko brothers hold three of the four available world heavyweight titles. Haye wants them all, and has been agitating for a fight with either brother for the last 12 months, despite the fact that they are champions of long-standing, whereas Haye has fought only one proper bout at heavyweight since becoming the undisputed cruiserweight champion in March this year.

This was the key to riling one of the Klitschkos into fighting him for a title.

As Haye’s publicist said to me yesterday, “Men’s Health could be the first magazine to get a heavyweight title fight going!”

OLEG MASKAEV…"I'LL REPLACE POVETKIN & FIGHT KLITSCHKO, WINNER TAKE ALL !!

I have lost only one fight in the last 6 years. The bizarre and strange circumstances surrounding the Peter bout, including the possibility of criminal activity, will all be coming out when we appear before the Court of Sports Arbitration.

If Klitschko selects Rahman as his opponent, then Klitschko is facing the loser, not the winner. I have stopped Rahman not once, but twice, the last time winning the WBC Heavyweight Championship from him. What has Rahman done since I stopped him? He quit against Toney and then had a life and death against my sparring partner, Zuri Lawrence.

Styles make fights, and Klitschko's style is made to order for me. I stopped Vitali as an amature and I will stop Vladimir as a pro. I know how to rough him up. I will knock him out.

Talk is cheap; I'll put my money where my mouth is. As far as the purse, let us fight, winner take all. If you are not interested in another mis-match Vlad, have Shelly Finkel call my promoter, Dennis Rappaport. I'm prepared to fight you in the U.S., in Russia, in Germany, and even in your own living room. Let's get it on !!"

KLITSCHKO LOOKS LIKE OLD SELF SCORES 8TH ROUND TKO OVER PETER; MOVE OVER TARVER

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING presented a special, history-making world championship double-header on Saturday night. Klitschko scored an eighth-round TKO against the overmatched Peter Saturday on SHOWTIME.

Many wondered how Vitali Klitschko (36-2, 35 KOs) would look in his first fight in nearly four years. Wonder no more. The 37-year-old heavyweight regained his World Boxing Council (WBC) title with a marvelous eighth-round TKO over Samuel Peter (30-2, 23 KOs), televised on tape delay from the O2 World Arena in Berlin, Germany.

It wasn’t much of a contest as Klitschko fought tall and used his precise left jab to keep Peter from closing the distance. His consistent jab, along with stiff over hand rights proved too much for Peter. Behind on all cards, Peter quit on his stool after the eighth.

Klitschko’s victory marked the first time the boxing world has seen two brothers hold heavyweight titles simultaneously. Klitschko’s younger brother, Wladimir, is the IBF and WBO heavyweight world champion.

Vitali and Wladimir Klitschko are the only siblings to hold heavyweight titles simultaneously.

In the second world championship fight on SHOWTIME, it was out with the old and in with the new as “Bad” Chad Dawson (27-0, 17 KOs) won a 12-round unanimous decision against the veteran Antonio Tarver (27-5, 19 KOs), live at The Pearl Theater at The Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas.

Vitali Klitschko stuns Sam Peter with an over hand right.

Dawson, the former WBC champion who relinquished the belt for this high profile fight, captured the IBF and IBO light heavyweight titles by scores of 118-109, 117-110 twice.

The difference maker was Dawson’s blazing hand speed. He landed precise right upper cuts and vicious right hooks.

Dawson threw creative combinations, at times throwing five, six and seven-punch combinations to the head and body of Tarver.

Dawson is the new light heavyweight kingpin and he has the hardware to prove it.

“It’s a happy moment for me,” Dawson said after the fight. “I’m taking these titles back to my home in New Haven (Conn.). I was the faster fighter tonight. I was outpointing him and outworking him. We did it one round at a time like we always do.”

During the telecast, SHOWTIME reporter Karen Bryant interviewed former pound-for-pound great Floyd Mayweather, Jr.

Mayweather called Dawson the number one pound-for-pound fighter in the world, claiming the 26-year-old Connecticut native doesn’t get enough credit for his superior skills.

“Floyd gave me a call tonight in the locker room before the fight,” Dawson said. “He told me I’m the best fighter in the world. That was a huge compliment and confidence booster. When Floyd says something like that you can’t help but smile and go out and perform.”

Tarver could not keep up with the younger and quicker Dawson.

“I fought my fight and Chad fought his,” Tarver said after the fight. “I was never hurt. I should have had a busier work rate, but Chad was the busier fighter. I think I did well. I didn’t land the left as much as I should have.

“I tip my hat to Chad. He came in with a good work rate. I felt good about my ability to win this fight, but it was Chad’s night tonight.”

Dawson backed up Tarver all night long on his way to claiming the IBF and IBO light heavyweight world championships Saturday night on SHOWTIME.

SHOWTIME keeps the hits coming with three world championship fights in less than one month.

America's No. 1 Boxing Network kicks it off with a special edition of ShoBox: The New Generation on Oct. 24, when undefeated International Boxing Federation (IBF) super middleweight champion Lucien Bute makes the second defense of his title against once-beaten, No. 1 ranked challenger Librado Andrade.

Just eight days later, SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING plays host to one of the biggest little fights since Vazquez-Marquez III when Cristian Mijares, the World Boxing Association (WBA) and World Boxing Council (WBC) super flyweight champion faces the IBF champion Vic Darchinyan in the first 115-pound, three-belt unification fight in history on Saturday, Nov. 1 (9 p.m. ET/PT on SHOWTIME). The 12-round bout is the third two-belt unification match in the history of the division.

Less than three weeks later, on Nov. 21, ShoBox returns with a special edition unification fight between WBA super bantamweight champion Celestino Caballero and unbeaten IBF champ Steve Molitor. Caballero and Molitor are two of the most feared boxers in the stacked 122-pound division.

In the co-feature of the Nov. 1 telecast, undefeated super middleweight standout and ShoBox alum Andre Dirrell of Flint, Mich., will meet the power-punching Victor Oganov of Russia. Dirrell (16-0, 11 KOs) will star in the SHOWTIME co-feature for the second time in his young career. In his SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING debut in August, Dirrell dismantled Mike Paschall by registering a fourth round TKO. Oganov (28-1, 28 KOs) is coming off a second round knockout of Kariz Kariuki in April.

The co-feature of the Oct. 24 telecast features top prospect and No. 11 ranked World Boxing Council (WBC) contender Ronald Hearns (19-0, 15 KOs) taking on Paul Clavette (14-1-1, 2 KOs) in a 10-round junior middleweight bout.

The host of SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING is Steve Albert with Al Bernstein serving as color commentator and Jim Gray and Karyn Bryant serving as ringside reporters. The producer of Saturday’s telecast was Ray Smaltz with Bob Dunpy directing. The executive producer of SHOWTIME Sports is David Dinkins, Jr.

Boxers, Promoters And Analysts Weigh In On Peter-Klitschko Championship Bout‏

‘THIS COULD BE THE MOST COMPELLING HEAVYWEIGHT MATCHUP IN YEARS.’ WHAT THEY’RE SAYING ABOUT SATURDAY’S SAMUEL PETER-VITALI KLITSCHKO FIGHT ON SHOWTIME

It’s just talk, but there’s been plenty of it leading up to Saturday’s WBC Heavyweight Championship between Samuel Peter (30-1, 23 KOs) and Vitali Klitschko (35-2, 34 KOs). With just five days remaining till the bout, here is a sampling of what top fighters, promoters and analysts are saying about the SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING fight, which will be shown on same-day tape delay from the O2 World Arena in Berlin, Germany, before the Antonio Tarver-Chad Dawson IBF Light Heavyweight Championship live at 9 p.m. ET/PT (delayed on the west coast).

WLADIMIR KLITSCHKO – IBF/WBO Heavyweight Champion

"Vitali will make history on October 11th. On that day we will become the first two brothers ever to be heavyweight champions at the same time. We've been dreaming about it so much, for so long and on October 11th it will become a reality."

"Peter, just like other heavyweights, is able to punch hard and I think that Vitali knows this and will knock Peter out before anything else can happen."

"Vitali's last opponent, Danny Williams, was the same size and style as Peter and Vitali was exceptional against him. I expect the same from Vitali when he faces Peter."

STEVE ALBERT – SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING Announcer

"There is so much on the line for both fighters. Sam Peter has to beat Vitali Klitschko to get a rematch with Vitali's younger brother, Wladimir for a chance to prove he's the premier heavyweight in the world.

“After a four-plus-year layoff, Vitali Klitschko wants to resurrect his career and fulfill his dream of joining Wladimir as the only siblings in boxing history to hold world heavyweight titles simultaneously. Given the current state of the heavyweight division, Peter vs. Vladimir Klitschko could be the most compelling heavyweight matchup in years."

JAMES TONEY - Three-Time World Champion

“It means that we get rid of one of the Klitschko sisters who don’t deserve to be in this fight and it gets me closer to evening the score with the big ugly Samuel Peter.”

“I predict that Peter will win by KO. He is too strong and has learned too much fighting me to lose to a big sissy like Vitali Klitschko, who has been off for way too long.”

CHRIS BYRD – Two-Time World Heavyweight Champion

“It’s a huge fight for the heavyweight division and for boxing. We could potentially have brothers simultaneously holding pieces of the world heavyweight title, making them the most dominant brothers in the history of the sport. Who is going to beat them?”

“Now, normally, I would have to go with Vitali Klitschko in this fight. He’s taller, and more importantly, he is mentally tougher than Samuel Peter. He’s even more mentally tough than Wladimir. And don’t forget, he punches pretty impressively too.”

“However, I’ve got to go with the guy who has been active. The time off, the bad back… the time off is the biggest thing for Vladimir to overcome. Another concern is to go right into a title fight against one of the best out there after a long layoff.”

“Style wise, Vitali Klitschko has the edge by far with his height and reach. The Klitschkos are tough to beat. If Vitali uses his height and reach well, and if he can keep that going for as long as it lasts, Peter is going to have a tough time.”

“It should be a great fight either way.”

OLEG MASKAEV – Former WBC Heavyweight Champion

“I have been in ring with both Klitschko and Peter. I was in the ring against Klitschko as an amateur, and I fought Peter in March. … It’s a real interesting fight and certainly a significant one for the heavyweight division.”

“When it comes to Vitali, one of the biggest challenges is inactivity. I would like nothing better than to get back into the ring with Peter. Klitschko is more experienced, but Peter is active. The question is how Klitschko will come out of camp. If he can overcome the rust, then he will win.”

“Overall, as long as he can overcome the time off, I give the edge to Klitschko.”

AL BERNSTEIN - SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING Announcer

“The heavyweight division is in need of compelling match-ups and fighters that will excite the fans. Because of his punching power, Samuel Peter remains a candidate to do that. His rivalry with the Klitschkos continues. The intrigue of Vitali now fighting Peter, after his brother had a strong match with him, adds spice to this match-up. We are all wondering if Vitali can perform up to his previous level after this long layoff. It all makes for a very interesting night of heavyweight boxing."

DINO DUVA – Samuel Peter’s Promoter

"The Samuel Peter-Vitali Klitschko fight is very significant for several reasons. This is the most crucial fight to determine if a true heavyweight title unification bout can take place in the foreseeable future.”

“If Peter wins, this unification is very possible, and will set up the biggest fight in the heavyweight division in a long time with a rematch against Wladimir Klitschko. If that happens, it will allow the heavyweight division to regain much of its lost prominence. And, If Klitschko wins, it will be very unique and historic, and will be the first time ever that two brothers are heavyweight champions at the same time."

"Because of the styles, this bout will not go the distance and will be a great brawl. I can see both fighters going down. The strongest fighter and the one with the most heart will survive."

STEVE FARHOOD – ShoBox Expert Analyst

“Peter-Klitschko is among the most intriguing fights of the year for three reasons: 1) It is critical to the present and future of the heavyweight division. 2) It is a battle of big punchers with very different styles, and 3) It is virtually impossible to predict what's going to happen.

“Both fighters have the ability to score one-punch knockouts, but Klitschko’s four-year layoff is the X-factor.”

“If Klitschko was active and in his prime, I'd pick him to win. But can he survive a long and draining fight? I'll go with Peter. Besides, if Vitali wins, he'll never fight his brother, greatly reducing the chances of a unified title.”

DAVID DINKINS JR. – SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING Executive Producer

“Samuel Peter has emerged as a force in the heavyweight division. His powerful punching ability and durable chin have always made him formidable. But now with his improved conditioning and defense, he can make a legitimate claim to being the world's No. 1 heavyweight.”

“If not derailed by injuries, Vitali Klitschko might have dominated the heavyweight division in the post-Lennox Lewis era alongside his brother, Wladimir. This comeback fight is his last chance to prove what might have been and an opportunity to rewrite his legacy.”

RAYMOND SMALTZ, SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING producer

“For Vitali Klitschko, returning to the fight game for a heavyweight title shot after being away from the ring since December of 2004, would be an unprecedented accomplishment. But a victory would mark him down in the annals of athletic competition as one of the most remarkable comeback stories in our generation.”

“In the immortal words of the late comedian, Rodney Dangerfield, ‘Sam Peter gets no respect!’ But, if he is able to exact revenge against the man who's brother is the No. 1-ranked heavyweight in the world and defeated him in a unanimous decision four years ago, it will go a long way to soothing those old wounds and give Peter the kind of acceptance in the boxing community and around the world...that he so desperately seeks.”

PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES SAMUEL PETER vs. VITALI KLITSCHKO, Wednesday, Aug. 26, at Gallagher’s Steak House, New York, New York

PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES SAMUEL PETER vs. VITALI KLITSCHKO, at Gallagher’s Steak House, New York, New York

On a night that will electrify the boxing world, active World Boxing Council (WBC) Heavyweight Champion Sam Peter (30-1, 23 KOs) will defend his title against WBC Champion Emeritus Vitali Klitschko (35-2, 34 KOs), making his dramatic return to the ring after a four-year absence, on SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING, Saturday, October 11.

Immediately following the heavyweight world title fight, which begins at 9 p.m. ET/PT on tape delay, two light heavyweight champions will meet, live on SHOWTIME, when Antonio "Magic Man" Tarver and "Bad" Chad Dawson square off in a long-awaited grudge match.

The Peter-Klitschko showdown will be co-promoted by Duva Boxing, K2 Promotions and Don King Productions from the O2 Arena in Berlin, Germany. Tarver vs. Dawson will be promoted by Gary Shaw Productions in association with AT Entertainment and take place at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada

SAMUEL PETER

“I am very grateful to be here today. I want to clear up one thing. I am the true heavyweight champion.

Vitali, you never beat a champion. You say you are the champion, but you are not a champion. You can’t be the champion until you beat me, and you can’t.

“I have fought 31 fights and never ducked anyone. I fought with my eardrum broken and lost 25 pounds that night, but I still fought.

“I am making one promise today. I will knock Vitali out. Trust me. I will knock out Vitali, and then I will beat his brother (IBF/WBO Heavyweight Champion Wladimir Klitschko). There is no doubt about that.”

VITALI KLITSCHKO

“Thank you to everyone who put energy into making this fight happen.”

“I am pleased to say that I am back. I am happy to be back in the ring, happy to fight for my title. I gave away my title freely because of my knee injury.

“I feel sorry for Peter that I must fight him. Skeptical people say that I won’t win because I have been out of the ring for three years, but I did not lose the title. I am honored to fight for (WBC President) José Sulaimán, who gave me this chance.

“I have big respect for Mr. Lou Duva, but his fighters always say they will knock me out and it never happens. Mr. Duva is preparing Peter to knock me out, but this will never happen.

“I don’t underestimate Peter. He is a good puncher. I will give my best to be the winner, to take my title back, and to make history where two brothers will be champions at the same time. It’s a huge motivation for me.

“I promise the fight will not be easy and it won’t go to the scorecards. It will probably end between rounds four-six. I have a lot of presents ready for Peter for October 11.”

DINO DUVA (Peter’s promoter)

“This fight was a fight that a lot of people never thought would happen. When the WBC ordered Sam Peter to fight Vitali Klitschko, I was the most skeptical about Klitschko’s ability. But, a few weeks ago, I ran into Vitali at the Olympics in Beijing. I saw him walk toward me with a fire in his eye and he asked me if the fight was happening. When I told him yes it was, he promised me that he would show up as ready as ever. After seeing him and the fire in him, my doubts were put to rest.

“We are so happy to work with SHOWTIME. SHOWTIME is pound for pound the best network in boxing. We are proud to have this fight on SHOWTIME.”

LOU DUVA (Legendary trainer)

Peter reminds me of Rocky Marciano, and he will definitely knock out Vitali. You’re going to see a fight here, and I’ll tell you what, on October 11, you will see Peter knockout Klitschko.”

BERND BOENTE (Klitschko’s Manager)

“This will be a great fight between two great punchers. I doubt however that this fight goes 12 rounds.”

WORLD BOXING COUNCIL NEWS; THE WBC DEEPLY SUPPORTS VITALI KLITSCHKO IN HIS CAMPAIGN TO BECOME MAYOR OF KIEV

WORLD BOXING COUNCIL NEWS

April 23, 2008 – Mexico City.
From the office of WBC President Jose Sulaiman:

THE WBC DEEPLY SUPPORTS VITALI KLITSCHKO IN HIS CAMPAIGN TO BECOME MAYOR OF KIEV

It was not a surprise for WBC President Jose Sulaiman to see that the WBC Emeritus Champion, WBC World Ambassador for Peace and Good Will, and former WBC heavyweight world champion Vitali Klitschko would run for election to become Mayor of Kiev.

President Sulaiman said, “The World Boxing Council respects the freedom of the people of Kiev to elect their mayor, and is very happy and confident that Vitali Klitschko will get the majority of the votes to become a mayor that will be dedicated, with the frame of mind as a champion, organized, charismatic, and a gentleman that comes from the people and will rule for the people.

“The people of Kiev will not vote for a military officer, a doctor, or a boxer, but the people of Kiev will vote for one who gave belief that he will be the best to lead Kiev to the highest accomplishments.

“As a boxer Vitali Klitschko has the dedication, the temperament, the image, the charisma, and the decisive hard working temperament to become a champion, which are exactly the same qualifications to become the Mayor of Kiev.

“As a citizen, Vitali comes from the people; he knows the people, and the people were his passionate followers to take him to the top of the hills, which is the reason why Vitali has the basis to run as a Mayor for the people.

“As a businessman, Vitali has administered in excellence his business of promotion in boxing to be without a doubt one of the very best in the world, and has the financial basis to know exactly what Kiev needs to be accomplished.

“And in synthesis, Vitali Klitschko has all the matters of importance that a citizen expects a Mayor of Kiev to accomplish in regards to perceiving high goals to achieve, to know and rule for the people, to have the capacity, the experience to be a Mayor, and the charisma and gentlemanlike manner that opens the doors with empathy for the people of Kiev and all parts of the world.

“Vitali Klitschko has been one of the greatest all-around champions that the WBC has had, which is the reason why we elected him as Emeritus Champion and a World Ambassador for Peace and Good Will.

“I am sure that Vitali Klitschko is the best option to rule the beautiful and great City of Kiev and that the citizens will vote to elect him.”

Shaun George vs Chris Byrd May 16th On ESPN!‏

Shaun George vs Chris Byrd May 16th On ESPN!

For years, Shaun George has waited patiently for his chance to rise to the top of his division. His journey comes to a head on May 16, when the Brooklyn native faces former two-time heavyweight champion Chris Byrd on ESPN's Friday Night Fights in Las Vegas, NV. The fight will be contested at the light-heavyweight limit of 175 pounds.

"This opportunity means everything to me," says George, 16-2-2 (7 KO). "I'm ready for this step up on May 16. I've been waiting for this kind of fight my whole life. I believe I'm a better fighter and I'm ready to prove it. I know I'm the underdog, but I also know I will come out on top."

Shaun George is currently riding a three-fight winning streak following a dubious decision loss to Alexander Gurov in his opponent's home country. During his last fight, George shut out difficult journeyman Thomas Reid over ten rounds. Reid was a late-replacement for Eric Harding, who withdrew the week of the fight. George was a decorated amateur, winning two New York Golden Glove titles, as well as US National Amateur and Junior Olympic titles. He is trained by the venerable Tommy Brooks and promoted by Hall of Fame Promotions.

George's adversary, whose impressive mark reads 40-4-1 (21 KO), is no slouch either. Byrd has posted victories over heavyweight mainstays David Tua, Vitali Klitschko, Fres Oquendo and Evander Holyfield, among others. A silver medalist in the 1992 Olympics Games, "Rapid Fire" is a sure-fire future Hall of Famer.

"I know he's fast and that he fights intelligently," George concedes. "That doesn't concern me. It won't be about what Chris Byrd can do, but what I can do. This is my time to shine, Chris Byrd just happens to be the opponent set before me.

Shaun George's manager, Hall of Fame inductee Lou Duva, is confident with his fighter's prospects. "I've never seen him this excited about a fight before," says George's manager Lou Duva. "He wants this win, he's training to win and he's going to win.

"I know what this kid's abilities are. Shaun is a good, strong light heavyweight. He throws a lot of combinations and does what it takes to win. I like everything I see about him."

A recent press release issued by the Byrd camp made mention of Byrd's post-George intentions. George says his only concern is on the challenge he has signed to face. "He can look past me all he wants, talking about fighting Jones, Tarver and Calzaghe. My only focus is on the fight in front of me."

Adds George, "The light heavyweight division is the best division in boxing and this fight will show why. I'm bringing my A game and I expect him to do the same."

The Shaun George-Chris Byrd bout is promoted by Banner Promotions.
