"Paulette better be in some shape," said Broner.  "On June 22, I will be a three-time world champion in three weight classes at just 23-years-old."

"Once again, we're looking forward to bringing a blockbuster fight to Brooklyn at Barclays Center," said Oscar De La Hoya, President of Golden Boy Promotions.  "Paulie Malignaggi is the type of fighter that is not going to let anyone take his belt from him on his home turf, but he has his work cut out for him against one of the most talented fighters in the sport in undefeated rising superstar Adrien 'The Problem' Broner.  Add in the rematch between Johnathon Banks and Seth Mitchell and it's safe to say that the fireworks will be flying a few weeks before the Fourth of July."

"All of us at the network are thrilled to have Adrien Broner in his SHOWTIME debut, especially in a tough fight against the very smart and crafty world champion Paulie Malignaggi," said Stephen Espinoza, Executive Vice President and General Manager, SHOWTIME Sports.  "When this fight first came available, I jumped at the chance to have it on SHOWTIME.  This fight was one of the most talked about match ups of the year before it was even announced."
One of Brooklyn's favorite fighting sons, Paulie Malignaggi (32-4, 7 KO's) is a two-division world champion known for his lighting fast hands and even faster mouth. He first made his mark in the 140-pound weight class when he defeated Lovemore N'dou in 2007 for the IBF crown.  In 2010, Malignaggi made the move up to welterweight and in April 2012 he captured the WBA welterweight title, traveling to the Ukraine to stop Vyacheslav Senchenko in his hometown.  He has defended his belt once thus far, decisioning Pablo Cesar Cano at Barclays Center last October.  Also well known for his role as color commentator on SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING, the 32-year-old who has faced the likes of Miguel Cotto, Ricky Hatton, Amir Khan and Juan Diaz, will look to stop the rise of Adrien Broner a few miles from his home in Brooklyn.
At 23 years old, Adrien Broner (26-0, 22 KO's) has captivated the boxing world with his work inside the ring and flashy charisma outside of it.  Unbeaten as a pro, with a skill set that allows him to box or bang, and possessing a warrior's attitude and heart, Broner won the WBO junior lightweight title in 2011 with a third round knockout of Vicente Martin Rodriguez.  After knockouts of Eloy Perez and Vicente Escobedo, he moved up to 135 pounds, winning the WBC title with a thoroughly dominating eighth round technical knockout of Antonio DeMarco last November.  Most recently, Broner stopped Gavin Rees in five rounds in February, and on June 22, he will make the leap from 135 to 147 pounds to challenge "The Magic Man."  Should he win, he will join Roberto Duran, Roy Jones Jr. and Robert Guerrero as the only fighters to win a world championship in their first fight after jumping a weight class.
The owner of one of boxing's most inspirational stories, Johnathon Banks (29-1-1, 19 KO's) captured the hearts of fight fans last fall.  Shortly after the death of his mentor and trainer, Emanuel Steward, Banks took over for the legendary Hall of Famer as the trainer of Heavyweight World Champion Wladimir Klitschko in his title defense win over Mariusz Wach in November.  A week later, the 30-year-old from Detroit stepped into the ring himself, and stunned the boxing world with his second round technical knockout win over Mitchell.  On June 22, he'll look to do it again.
Seth "Mayhem" Mitchell (25-1-1, 19 KO's) is eager for the opportunity to avenge his only pro loss when he faces Banks at the end of June.  A former standout Michigan State University linebacker, Mitchell tore through his opposition in the boxing ring for over four years, most notably beating Taurus Sykes, Timur Ibragimov, and Chazz Witherspoon, all by knockout.  Now he'll have to show the resilience of a champion as he attempts to even the score on June 22.
A full undercard will be announced shortly.

A raucous good time was had by all attending a great night of fights Friday inside the Treasure Island ballroom in Las Vegas at our Don King Productions-promoted fight card telecast live on SHOWTIME (ShoBox)

Post-Fight Ring Quotes

Photos by:Tom Casino/SHOWTIME

Baha Mamadjonov: “One week notice and I win by that kind of knockout.  The first couple of rounds he (Angelo Santana) was difficult to figure out but once I did I just got more aggressive.  The hard work paid off.  I came to the United States to be a champion.  I want to win a world title and this was the first step.  I’m just starting.  It’s going to be one belt at a time.
“Santana hits really hard and I respect him but I could see he was getting tired in the sixth round after I hit him with a body shot.”
Angelo Santana: “The referee stopped the fight.  I tell you I was still in it.  I landed two big left hands earlier in the round.   We were in a good fight and it should have continued.  Nothing against Baha, he’s a good fighter, but I want a rematch.
“The last knockdown came on a slip.  I slipped after throwing a punch.”
Amir Imam: “I had to figure him (Jeremy Bryan) out in the first round.  I doubled up my jab in the second round and hit him with the big right that starched him.  Some would say I took too big of a bite but I was composed, relaxed and knew what I had to do.
“Line ‘em up and I’ll knock them down.”
Jeremy Bryan: I don’t really feel like talking because I still feel a little woozy.  I expected so much more.  I trained so hard.  This is very disappointing.
“I had a lot going on.  This was my first big fight on TV since 2004.  I had a good fan base that came in for the fight.  I think I got a little over-anxious and it cost me but I am a warrior. I’ve come back before and I’ll come back again.
Marcus Oliveira: “Coyne came to fight but I figured him out in the sixth round when I realized I could stand right in front of him and only I could hurt him.
“I made sure to work up and down.  When I went to the body, I noticed he would drop his right hand so I’d unload a left.
“I dropped him the first time with two right hands and a left hook.  The same flurry ended the fight moments later on the other side of the ring.”
Ryan Coyne: “I could have finished but he (Marcus Oliveira) has a great left hook. I felt good until I got caught with that headbutt.  I was hanging in there.  It was a good fight. He is a helluva fighter.
“I thought it was nip and tuck. After I caught the headbutt, it was very difficult to move forward. It impacted my stamina and I couldn’t see. I still can’t see. But I give him all the credit. He’s a great fighter.
Marcus Willis: “I was fighting for Don King and I wanted to show him I have what it takes.  I knew he (James de la Rosa) thought he was a bigger puncher, but I knew I was the better fighter.
“I don’t like to play for the crowd although I like it when they’re happy like this.  I fight for god, my team and myself, and I’ve got a lot more to show everyone.”
James de la Rosa: “I felt good.  I needed these rounds.  I got a little careless in the seventh round and he (Marcus Willis) caught me with a good shot.
“I’m not a judge but I thought I did enough to win tonight.  If I wasn’t coming forward, there would have been no fight. I’ll be back from this one for sure.”

UNDEFEATED MEXICAN SUPERSTAR CANELO ALVAREZ
QUOTES & PHOTOS FROM LOS ANGELES MEDIA WORKOUT
FOR APRIL 20 WORLD TITLE UNIFICATION AGAINST
UNBEATEN WBA WORLD CHAMPION AUSTIN TROUT
Thursday, April 4 at Wild Card West in Santa Monica, Calif.

Canelo vs. Trout Super Welterweight World Championship Unification
Saturday, April 20, LIVE on SHOWTIME from Alamodome in San Antonio

Here's what the participants had to say on Thursday:
CANELO ALVAREZ
"The more intelligent fighter is going to win on April 20. We've mapped out a game plan and we'll stick to it. I've looked back at some of my past fights and I'm critical of how I've performed. I've taken criticism, but all criticism is constructive and I'm taking it all in.
"Because he beat my brother and took his belt, this fight has more meaning. It's personal, because he took something from us. After I win this fight, I'm going to get that belt and I'm going to give it to my brother.
"I'm really excited for the San Antonio fans, as well as all the Mexican fans who will be there supporting me. I'm hoping I can give them a great fight.
"The key for me is patience. I know he'll be ready for me at all times. It's going to be a complicated fight, but I'm prepared for it.
"I'm not concerned about talking about (Floyd) Mayweather or anyone else. I'm just focused on this fight. If he didn't want to sign [to fight me], that's on him. After this fight we will talk about Mayweather and whoever else."
OSCAR DE LA HOYA
"This is going to be a very physical fight. Austin Trout is legitimate. He is undefeated. He is strong. I think that whoever wins this fight is going to shoot up like a star and go to the next level. It's a tough fight for both. I expect a really, really tough fight.
"What I see is the potential for whoever wins this fight to be a superstar. Not just a star or just a champion, but a superstar. Canelo is on the right path and April 20 is going to show us if he's able to make that jump. Canelo's destiny is in his own hands and it's up to him to win the fight.
"This reminds me when I beat Ike Quartey. Although I did have all the admirers and the fans, I needed that one win to solidify me as a great champion. This is his one moment, but he has his work cut out for him. Austin Trout is the real deal. He's no joke, but if you want to beat the best you have to fight the best. I've said that throughout my whole career.
"I think San Antonio is a great fight town. The fans there have been asking for a great fight. They haven't had a big fight there since Chavez-Whitaker. I fought there, but they haven't had a big, big world championship fight in some time."
CHEPO REYNOSO
"All the training's been done and we are down to our final weeks. We know that Trout is a smart fighter and that he got some invaluable experience against (Miguel) Cotto.
"We're ready for a lefty fighter and focused our training sparring with two very seasoned lefties who provided us with a lot of different looks. They have a lot of similar characteristics to what we are going to see against Trout."
EDDY REYNOSO
"Canelo is going to fight how he always fights. We aren't going to change just because of our opponent. Of course we've studied all of Trout's fights and we'll be ready for whatever he brings, but we're just going to come to fight like we always do."

Mayweather has six approved opponents for six-fight contract with Showtime/CBS

Floyd Mayweather Jr. has already approved six opponents for his six-fight contract with Showtime/CBS. According to the Boston Herald these are the fighters that Mayweather has approved of to fight for his 30 months $250 million contract with Showtime/CBS: Guerrero, Marcos Maidana, Alfredo Angulo, Danny Garcia, Saul "Canelo" Alvarez and Devon Alexander.

Of that list, only Canelo would be considered a dangerous opponent for Floyd. Garcia is a light welterweight, Alexander tends to clinch a lot, Angulo is a slow 154 pounder, Maidana is also very slow, and Guerrero is a straight up fighter with little in the way of defensive skills. Missing from this list is Manny Pacquiao, the fighter that boxing fans feel would be Mayweather’s biggest threat. If all Mayweather Jr. has to do is beat Canelo, Angulo, Guerrero, Alexander, Garcia and Maidana in order to complete his six-fight contract within 30 months for Showtime/CBS then they’re not putting a lot of pressure on him. Pacquiao’s name should be in that list as well as Amir Khan, Lucas Matthysse, Keith Thurman and Austin Trout. Alvarez is a good fighter, but he’s pretty slow and is like a bigger version of Juan Manuel Marquez.

Mayweather already proved that he can beat Marquez with ease, so it’s likely that Canelo will be no problems for Mayweather. Canelo obviously will be coming next after the Guerrero fight because Mayweather is going to want to get the most difficult fight out of the way as quick as possible in order to avoid facing him a year or two down the line when he starts to lose more of his skills.

It’s still a very winnable fight for Mayweather no matter when he faces Canelo because his style is made to order for him.

Garcia is someone whose situation is kind of precarious right now. Unless Golden Boy keeps him away from Matthysse and Amir Khan, we could see Garcia beaten in 2013. At that point there will be no reason for Mayweather to fight him. He’ll have to switch out Garcia’s name and insert Khan or Matthysse.
