Roy Jones Jr. And Bobby Gunn Clash For WBU World Cruiserweight Clash On Dec 4th

World Boxing Union President Don ‘Moose’ Lewis today officially announced that Roy Jones Jr. will face Bobby Gunn, at the National Guard Armory in North Philadelphia, PA on Wednesday 4th December 2013 for the WBU World Cruiserweight title.
During his twenty four year professional career Jones Jr. has secured world titles in four different weight catagories – Middleweight, Super Middleweight, Light Heavyweight and Heavyweight – and is the only boxer in history to start his career as a Light Middleweight and then go on to win a Heavyweight Championship.
On winning the WBA Heavyweight title, by beating John Ruiz by unanimous decision on the 1st March 2003, Jones Jr. made history by becoming the first former middleweight champion to win a heavyweight title in 106 years.
However, whilst he has been one of the most successful sportsman of his age, Jones Jr. makes no secret that before retiring he wanted to add the ‘missing’ Cruiserweight crown to his already overflowing trophy cabinet.
However it has not been an easy road for Jones Jr. to travel in his bid for the elusive Cruiserweight Crown he desires.
Back in 2009 Jones Jr. made an unsuccessful bid, against Australia’s Danny Green, for the International Boxing Organisation’s version.
After the unsuccessful title bid, Jones Jr. then went the distance with old foe Bernard Hopkins, who made amends for his loss of the IBF Middleweight Crown to Jones Jr. some ten years earlier, followed one year later by the last round KO loss to Denis Lebedev.
Jones Jr. came back in December 2011 with a virtual shutout win over Max Alexander, which he then followed up with another excellent points win over then unbeaten Polish star Pawel Glazewski, to set up the opportunity to once again move into Championship contention, with his record standing at 56 wins (40 KO) and 8 losses (4 KO)
On December 4th Jones Jr’s opponent will be the former IBA Cruiserweight World Champion and the current Bareknuckle Heavyweight Champion, Canada’s Bobby ‘The Celtic Warrior’ Gunn.
Like Jones Jr. Gunn has a fearsome record - 21 wins (18 KO) 5 losses (4 KO) and a single draw – although it must be said that is still less than half of bouts fought and won by Jones Jr.
Gunn may have lost both his previous Championship challenges, against IBF Cruiserweight Champion Tomasz Adamek in 2009 and in 2012 against James Toney for the vacant IBU Heavyweight title, but is no easy opponent for Jones Jr.
Prior to those losses, he won three Championship bouts in a row, all by stoppage. In July 2008 Gunn stooped James Morrow in the fifth to secure the IBC Inter-Continental Cruiserweight title.
Later that year Gunn successfully defended the IBC title and secured the vacant WBC United States (USNBC) Cruiserweight title, with a third round stoppage of Shelby Gross.
Three months later Gunn successfully defended the WBC United States title, as well as secured the vacant NABA Cruiserweight title, with a fourth round stoppage of Brad Gregory.
World Boxing Union President Don ‘Moose’ Lewis said of the upcoming Championship fight.
“What a way to end the year.
Roy Jones Jr. is a living legend and we are honored to have him fighting for our Cruiserweight title.
During his exemplary career Roy has done it all, I can’t think of how many titles he has won, but it has to be around but it’s definitely in double figures, I wouldn’t even guess at how many Championship fights he’s had defended those titles either.
Bobby Gunn has also won quite a few titles in his career, so knows his way around a Championship fight.
This showpiece event marks the end of a remarkable year for the World Boxing Union, that has seen us grow in stature month by month, as well as us sanctioning more title fights , many in new territories around the world, than we had previously achieved.”
Roy Jones Jr. versus Bobby Gunn, for the WBU World Cruiserweight Championship, takes place at the National Guard Armory in North Philadelphia, PA on Wednesday 4th December 2013

Travis Kauffman: I Want It More Than Quezado, I will be the WBU Champ On Nov 30th‏

  • Heavyweight contender Travis Kauffman, is set for a home town showdown,
against Manuel Quezado, for the vacant World Boxing Union
Inter-Continental Heavyweight crown, on the Marshall Kauffman King’s
Boxing promoted ‘GET READING TO RUMBLE’ mega event at the Santander Arena, Reading, PA, on Saturday 30th November 2013.

Since turning pro in 2006 Travis has racked up an enviable twenty six
wins, nineteen by stoppage finish, and just the single loss, against Tony Grano in September ’09.

Even though this isn’t his first tilt at a Championship - having secured
the WBF Inter-Continental title in May 2010, with a sensational second
round stoppage of Youngstown, Ohio’s Chris Koval - Travis is so determined to secure the coveted WBU crown, that for the first time in his career he has recruited a new member to his training team, former World Cruiserweight Champion Al Cole.

Travis clearly feels that the introduction of the former World Champ is
the ace up his sleeve, that will ensure his success on November 30th, as
he made clear when he spoke earlier.

“I don’t underestimate him at all, he may not have boxed for a while but
he’s been fighting in MMA, so he is fight ready.

He’s had more championship experience than me, but I have a lot of
experience in the amateurs and I’ve had a lot of professional experience
    as well.

I’ve been extremely busy, this is my fourth fight in less than a year,
I’ve dedicated myself in camp and there’ll be a new Travis Kauffman on the 30th, which I don’t think anybody has ever seen.

I’ve been sparring Tomasz Adamek, he’s been helping me for November 30th
and I helped him for his November 16th fight.

I don’t think you can get better sparring than I’ve had for this fight,
I’ve also sparred Brian Jennings and we’ll be brought him back into the
camp, I’ve also been sparring Monte Barrett, so you can see I’ve been
    sparring World class fighters.

To prepare me for my fight, besides my father Marshall Kauffman, Al Cole a former Cruiserweight Champ of the World, he’s helping train me.

I don’t like to have a whole bunch of people around me, I’m not someone
who has an entourage of trainers and the like.

This is the first time I’ve worked with Al Cole, sometimes he’s a little
frustrated when we’re learning something new, but he’s aching for me to
win the Heavyweight title, he held the Cruiserweight title for six years
and was unbeaten, but he never won the Heavyweight title

I’m really up for it, I’m training really hard, I’m really enjoying my
boxing and I think everything’s going in the right direction.

I feel I want it more than he wants it, I’m really enjoying my boxing and I will be the WBU Champion on November 30th.”

Travis Kauffman versus Manuel Quezada, for the WBU Inter-Continental
Heavyweight title, takes place on the Marshall Kauffman King’s Boxing
promoted GET READING TO RUMBLE event at the Santander Arena in Reading, PA on Saturday 3oth November 2013

Yorgey Ready For WBU Title Clash With Murtagh – Reading PA, Nov 30th

Yorgey Ready For WBU Title Clash With Murtagh – Reading PA, Nov 30th
Later this month Bridgeport PA’s Harry Joe Yorgey gets his second shot at a World title, when he faces Irish Champion Lee Murtagh, for the World Boxing Union Middleweight crown, on the Marshall Kauffman King’s Boxing promoted ‘GET READING TO RUMBLE’ mega event at the Santander Arena, Reading, PA, on Saturday 30th November 2013.
The hugely popular Yorgey is no stranger to Championship boxing, having fought for six different titles to date.
Yorgey’s first foray onto the Championship trail was back in November 2006, when he drew against Martinus Clay, when they clashed for the vacant IBU Inter-Continental Light Middleweight title.
It wasn’t until August 2008 before Yorgey got the chance to fight for a title, this time ‘Lightning’ secured the IBF International Light Middleweight crown, with a majority decision win over Jason LeHoullier.
In his very next fight, against Ronald Hearns in March 2009, Yorgey sensationally won the IBA Inter-Continental title with a ninth round KO of the previously unbeaten Hearns.
In November 2009 Yorgey was once again in Championship action, this time against Alfredo Angulo for the interim WBO World Light Middleweight crown, this fight was also won in knockout fashion, unfortunately for Yorgey it was him that was KO’d.
It would not be until January this year before Yorgey was once again in Championship action.
Yorgey travelled from his Pennsylvania home to Las Vegas, Nevada, where he faced Jermell Charlo, for the WBC Continental Americas title, on national TV at the Golden Boy promoted event. Unfortunately once more ‘Lightning’ was stopped, this time in the eighth round.
A non-championship bout followed in March, against Julius Kennedy, which Yorgey won by a split points decision.
In June this year Yorgey once again faced Julius Kennedy, this time for the vacant WBF North American Middleweight title, once again Yorgey came away victorious, this time by a close majority points decision.
Speaking on the phone from his home, Yorgey spoke briefly on his upcoming WBU World title fight.
“I’m really excited to be fighting for the WBU title.
I don’t know too much about Lee Murtagh, I’ve seen him on YouTube and I know he fought over here against Hector Camacho Jr.
I spoke with some people who know Camacho and watched the fight as well, from what I can make out he’s a tough kid and I know he’s going to come to fight, it’s a World title fight, so it’s an opportunity for him as much as it’s an opportunity for me.
I’ve been in with the best of them and won three titles myself, so I know what I have to do to win the fight, I’m not going to be worrying what Lee Murtagh does, I’m going to prepare myself to win the fight.”
‘Lightning’ Harry Joe Yorgey versus Lee Murtagh, for the WBU World Middleweight title, headlines the Marshall Kauffman King’s Boxing promoted GET READING TO RUMBLE event at the Santander Arena in Reading, PA on Saturday 3oth November 2013

Former WBU Champ Wayne Alexander Joins Board Of WBU Europe‏

Former WBU Champ Wayne Alexander Joins Board Of WBU Europe
Just over nine years ago, then British and European Light Middleweight Champion, Wayne ‘Alexander The Great’ Alexander stepped into the ring to face Mehrdud ‘The Margate Rock’ Takaloo for the World Boxing Union crown.
On what Wayne describes as the greatest night of his life, the South Londoner put in a sensational performance, knocking Takaloo, a former WBU champion himself, out in the second round, to be crowned the WBU Light Middleweight King.
Wayne went on to successfully defend the WBU title, against Thomas McDonagh, before retiring from the ring some nine months later.
Today it was announced that Wayne has renewed his association with the World Boxing Union, now under the stewardship of Don ‘Moose’ Lewis, by joining the board of WBU Europe.
On the 30th November, Wayne undertakes his first official duty for WBU Europe, when he co-supervises the WBU Europe title fights of Mark Prince vs. TBA and Marianne Marston versus Galina Gumliiska, on the Dave Murphy Acourtier Events promoted WARZONE event, which coincidently takes place at the very same venue that he won his World title, the York Hall in London.
Speaking from his home earlier the former Champion barely hid his joy at renewing his association with the World Boxing Union.
“It’s great to renew my association with the WBU, I won the World title back in 2004 against Takaloo.
Over the past couple of years it’s gone by the wayside, so it’s great to see the title I won back then starting to get back on the map.
Honestly it’s an honour, I really mean that, I can’t thank Rio (Gianluca Di Caro - President WBU Europe) and Don (Don Lewis – President WBU) enough for having me as part of the team.
It really is an honour, boxing is my life, it’s what I do, so to be involved on the World boxing scene again is really special to me, I really mean that.
I’m looking forward to November 30th and being an official on Mark’s (Mark Prince) fight.
I know Mark quite well, I’ve known him since about 1992, when we were both still amateur, he was with the Enterprise ABC and he turned pro a couple of years before me, he was with Carly Carew.
I was going to go to his comeback fight, but couldn’t make it, this time I’ll be there, in an official capacity.
The other WBU title fight will be a bit different for me, personally I haven’t been following Women’s boxing, up to now that is.
I’m not disrespecting Marianne (Marston) or Galina (Gumliiska), but it’s like any male dominated sport, it takes a while before the Women’s side is fully accepted by everyone.
I have to say I’m really looking forward to November 30th, it’s great to have WBU title fights here in London again, it’s been way too long.”

McCreedy & Traietti fighting on 'Royale Rumble' In potential prelude to rematch November 23 at The Royale Nightclub Boston

McCreedy & Traietti fighting on 'Royale Rumble'
In potential prelude to rematch
November 23 at The Royale Nightclub Boston

Two of New England's best and most popular boxers, "Irish" Joey McCreedy and Chris Traietti, will be fighting in the main event and co-feature, respectively, on the "Royale Rumble" card, presented by Big Six Entertainment, November 23 on a special Saturday afternoon card (5 p.m. ET start) at The Royale Nightclub Boston (formerly The Roxy).

McCreedy won a six-round split decision over Traietti back on January 1, 2008 at Foxwoods Resort Casino.  Their separate Nov. 23rd fights may serve as a prelude to a possible rematch in 2014, although both fighters soon plan to move down in weight classes, McCreedy to super middleweight and Traietti to light heavyweight.  They could, however, agree to meet at an agreeable catch-weight in what would be a major New England showdown.

McCreedy (14-6-2, 6 KOs), fighting out of the same hometown as "Irish" Micky Ward (Lowell, Mass.) and his trainer Dicky Eklund, takes on Nigerian light heavyweight Dennis Ogboo (7-7, 6 KOs) in the six-round headliner

Irag War veteran Traietti (14-3, 10 KOs), fighting out of nearby Quincy, meets Randy "The Rattler" Campbell (3-10, 2 KOs), in the eight-round co-feature.  Traietti defeated Campbell 2 ½ years ago by way of a six-round majority decision.

Undefeated Lawrence (MA) heavyweight prospect Alexis Santos (11-0, 10 KOs) faces veteran Kevin Franklin (4-7, 1 KO) in a six-fight, while Lynn (MA) welterweight "Speedy" Rashidi Ellis (2-0, 1 KO) squares off with Oscar Diaz (0-2) in a four-rounder.

Also fighting in a rematch is Stoneham (MA) welterweight Greg Vendetti (4-0-1, 2 KOs) and Brockton's (MA) Antonio Chaves Fernandez (3-13-2) in a six-round rematch.  They fought to a four-round draw this past July at the same venue.

Marshfield (MA) junior middleweight Aleksandra Magdziak Lopes (10-2, 1 KO) takes on "Notorious" Nicole Woods (11-2-2, 3 KOs) in a six-round battle of former world title challengers.
