***DBE Signs Junior Middleweight Sergio Martinez***

New York, NY November 12—DiBella Entertainment has added to its roster today, signing talented Junior Middleweight Sergio Martinez (40-1-1, 21 KO’s). The southpaw has fought all over Europe and South America in his 10 year career. Martinez has fought twice in the United States, most recently earlier this year in Houston where he knocked out Saul Roman (27-4, 24 KO’s) in the fourth round of a twelve round WBC Light Middleweight Title Eliminator. On November 2, Roman defeated one of the division’s established stars, Kassim Ouma (25-4-1, 15 KO’s).

His first U.S. fight came seven years ago in Las Vegas, where an inexperienced Martinez battled superstar Antonio Margarito. Despite losing the hotly contested bout by knockout, Martinez showed his toughness and potential. He has won an impressive twenty-four fights in a row.

“I am very excited with this signing of an international star in Sergio Martinez,” said DBE president Lou DiBella. “He is a phenomenal boxer who packs a serious punch. I am happy to be promoting a major player in the 154 pound division under my banner.”

“DiBella Entertainment is proud to be working with world renowned international matchmaker Sampson Lewkowicz who assisted us in making the deal to sign Sergio,” said the DBE head. “Sampson is one of the true stand-up individuals in the sport and one of the best minds in the boxing world.”

Martinez, who resides in Madrid, Spain, will surely be showcased more on American soil after signing with DiBella Entertainment. “Being a part of DBE, Sergio will have a wealth of opportunities and will finally be recognized by the boxing world,” said DiBella. “I am enthusiastic to begin working with Sergio, his manager Ricardo Sanchez Atocha, and the rest of Team Martinez. He can be a champion.”

Eddie Goldman and Kathy Duva

“Jermain has been a great champion and I don’t have a problem with the WBC installing him at #1,” said Lorenzo. “He beat Hopkins twice and beat Winky Wright so he has earned that respect. However, I have heard that he is considering taking an interim bout before fighting the Pavlik rematch. If that’s true I want to be his opponent because I’d like the opportunity to earn back my number one ranking and become Pavlik’s mandatory.”

“We have already reached out for DiBella Entertainment and HBO to see if Taylor would be interested in facing Lorenzo in a WBC title eliminator should he decide to take an interim fight prior to exercising his right to a Pavlik rematch,” said Duva. “Giovanni is eager for the showdown and for the right to earn an eventual shot against the recognized middleweight champion Pavlik.”

Lorenzo (25-0, 17 KO’s) has won his last seven bouts by knockout. The 27-year-old Washington Heights, NY resident by way of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic is a heavy-handed boxer who has stopped 14 opponents within the first three rounds.

Relentless Ronica Jeffrey "Sweet Trouble", signs with Boxing Manager David Selwyn

Relentless Ronica Jeffrey "Sweet Trouble"

Relentless Ronica Jeffrey "Sweet Trouble"
by David Pambianchi

Ranked the #1 U.S. National Amateur Champion at 125lbs., Ronica Jeffrey Starbursts onto the professional scene and agrees to sign up with Manager David Selwyn, and noted cut-man and boxing advisor "Big George Mitchell."

Proud Trainer Mike Smith spells it out, "I trained a lot of fighters over the years, but Ronica is special. She has the total package, speed, power, heart, and most of all an incredible work ethic. She showed her mettle in her first New York City Golden Gloves tournament when she defeated media darling Maureen Shea by 5-0 decision."

Some of her accomplishments:

3 time NYC Golden Gloves Champion

National PAL Champion

2 time Metro Champion

2 time Empire State Game Champion

Competed in the Pan Am games and world championships

USA team member

Also managed by Mr. Selwyn, Title contender Eileen Olszewski states, "She has a lot of talent and has what it takes to become a World Champion."

4 division World Champion Iran Barkley observes, "I've seen this girl in the Golden Gloves. She's really got the goods."

And after hearing that Ronica's family hails from Trinidad and Grenada, Boxing's Hall of Fame Emile Griffith asks, "Another champ from the Caribbean? Just like me, ha ha," he laughs. Planning ahead, Ronica recently received a Ring 8 Scholarship to Wood Tobe-Coburn Institute where she can prepare for a medical career preferably in Pediatrics. As she simply puts, "I love kids."

Outside the ring, friendly, humorous and personable, she enjoys autumn colors and cool afternoons, but dreads the cold New York winters. Despite frozen fingers on the coldest Brooklyn night, her smile still casts Grenada sunshine all around. But "Watch out!" when the bell sounds, she turns up the Caribbean heat. Her new manager points out, "When it's time to get busy, she's all business."

DBE Head, Lou DiBella to Produce Major Motion Picture

Lou DiBella

***DBE Head, Lou DiBella to Produce Major Motion Picture***

New York, NY, DiBella Entertainment President Lou DiBella will produce a motion picture entitled “Love Ranch” which will begin filming in Albuquerque, New Mexico in late January. The drama will tell the story of a couple who opened the first legal brothel in Nevada and how their relationship is put to the test when infidelity becomes involved. The work is inspired by the story of Joe and Sally Conforte, owners of the Mustang Ranch in Reno, Nevada. Professional boxer Oscar Bonavena was shot dead at the ranch in 1976 after it was suspected he had an affair with Sally.

“I am extremely excited to be a part of this movie. Many people know me as a boxing promoter but film is something I have always wanted to be involved in”, said DiBella.

The film will star Academy Award winner Helen Mirren and legendary actor Joe Pesci. Taylor Hackford will be a producer and the director. The renowned director has directed famous films including “An Officer and a Gentleman”, “The Devil’s Advocate”, and his most recent work, “Ray”. Other producers include David Bergstein and Marty Katz. Mark Jacobson, a close friend of DiBella, whose New York magazine article formed the basis for “American Gangster”, wrote the screenplay.

“This will be a fun project. Having the opportunity to work with a friend in Mark, world class actors in Helen Mirren and Joe Pesci and a director like Taylor Hackford is really something I am looking forward to”, said the promoter.

This will not be the first time DiBella will be involved in a movie. DBE launched DBE Productions several years ago. The production department of DBE produced a documentary on IBF Junior Welterweight Champion Paulie Malignaggi’s rise to a title fight entitled “Magic Man”. The rough cut of the film won the Audience Award at the 2007 Hoboken International Film Festival. The film has recently been completed and will be released in late winter or early spring. DiBella had a role playing himself in the sixth and final installment of the Rocky movies, “Rocky Balboa”, which was released in 2006.

BLACK NEW YORKER’S FOR GIULIANI TO DELIVER 25%

Gary James and Rudolph Giuliani

PRESS RELEASE

www.garyjames.info email: garyjamesusa@netscape.net

BLACK NEW YORKER’S FOR GIULIANI TO DELIVER 25%

“The absolute predictability of the Black American vote has rendered the Black community a political weakling among all other ethnic and political minorities. Black elected officials out number politicians of all other ethnic and political minorities yet Black Americans have comparatively no political leverage.”

This was the mantra articulated by Gary James, a longtime political organizer, analyst and author, during a booking signing event at the Barnes & Nobel bookstore located at Co-Op in the Bronx on Thursday September 27, 2007. The event was sponsored by a local health and fitness group comprised of women entrepreneurs.

Following his animated presentation critiquing Black political leadership and the efficacy of political correctness and traditional civil rights tactics, James discussed his intention to volunteer to help the Giuliani campaign in the February primary and November 2008 general election, should he prevail.

James said, “In the framework of Black New Yorker’s for Giuliani we will promote the need to develop ‘political leverage’ and work to deliver 25% of the Black vote in the general election. In the meantime we will we work on his behalf to win the GOP primary election on February 5, 2007.”

James continued, “25% of the Black vote going to the GOP candidate will unequivocally establish that the Black vote is now ‘unpredictable’ thereby establishing a degree of political leverage. A 25% walk-out by Black voters from the Democratic Party will constitute a paradigm shift that will move the Black community beyond the political stagnation that is the result of a failing Black political leadership orthodoxy.”

“Hopefully, we Black folk have learned that electoral politics embodies advancing the permanent interests of the community, and is not a fraternity of partisan friends verses racist enemies. We must not forget the political lessons of the 1960’s, which includes infiltrating adversary political forces from within as well strategic and tactical applications from without the process in order to achieve meaningful political and economic remediation.”

During the Q & A period, the point was mentioned to James that the Republican Party has a poor record with Black voters in general. In addition, the numerical advantage of Democrats in New York may constitute a mission impossible. This problem would be compounded should Mayor Giuliani be the Republican Party nominee in view of his record in the Black community, which is perceived as racist.

“The task for the GOP in New York is tough, but victory is not unprecedented. My organization helped President Reagan carry New York in 1984, during his re-election campaign. And Calvin Coolidge carried the state in 1924. As for Giuliani’s baggage with the Black community, I suspect that we may have substantially moved beyond the limitations of personally politics, and the racialized political paradigm. Whether we like a candidate or not, or whether he/she did this or that may not be politically irrelevant in 21st century black power politics. The real-time question is to what extent you are politically organized as a community to require the elected official to respond to your interests, who ever they are, and where ever they stand in the power equation. It’s about ‘how to’ be successful in accessing and sustaining political leverage.” James concluded.

Eracism, Author of the book Gary James.
