Jean Pascal to Battle Aleksy Kuziemski live on WealthTV Former Reigning WBC Light Heavyweight Champion to battle Olympian and WBO Title Challenger

December 10, 2012– Jean Pascal (26-2-1, 16 KOs), the proven  World Boxing Council (WBC) Light Heavyweight champion from 2009 to 2011, is returning to the ring to battle former Olympian and two-time WBO world challenger Aleksy Kuziemski, live and exclusively on WealthTV Friday, December 14 at 7 PM EST from the Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada.
In 2010, Pascal had an impressive victory over the then undefeated Chad Dawson, giving Dawson his first professional loss. Pascal twice went the distance with the legendary Bernard Hopkins.   In the first Pascal v. Hopkins fight, Pascal became the first man to put the future Hall of Famer on the canvas in more than fifteen years, yet Pascal was only able to secure a draw.   In Pascal’s last outing, a WBC/IBO world unification fight against Hopkins back in May of 2011, Pascal took Hopkins the distance but came up short on points.   Pascal plans to once again fight WBC Light Heavyweight Champion Chad Dawson on March, 23 2013 but before that fight can take place Pascal must get himself back in the various boxing associations’ rankings with an impressive performance against Kuziemski.
Looking to upset the apple cart, Kuziemski (23-4, 7 KOs), comes into this fight with extensive amateur and professional experience.  He won a bronze medal at the 2003 World Championships in Bangkok, Thailand, and represented Poland in the 2004 Athens Olympics (Pascal fought for Canada in the same Olympiad.)  Kuziemski has also challenged for a WBO world title twice but came up short against champion Juergen Braehmer and undefeated Nathan Cleverly
“Jean Pascal is one of the most exciting fighters in the world.  We know Kuziemski has been training hard and will be trying to make a statement, making the toe-to-toe action exciting for our viewers,” stated Tommy Morris, director of live events forWealthTV.  “The main event will have fight fans on the edge of their seats.  We’re also excited about the strong undercard bouts featuring a number of undefeated rising stars, making for a great night of professional boxing entertainment,” Morris concluded.
The card also contains middleweight, David Lemieux (27-2, 26 KOs), who has astonishingly knocked out 26 opponents in his 27 victories.  Lemieux will square off against a tough Albert Ayrapetyan (20-3, 9 KOs.)
Eleider Alverez (10-0, 6 KO) will be trading punches with England’s Danny McIntosh (13-3, 7KOs) for the WBO NABO light heavyweight title.  Both Lemieux and Alverez appeared on WealthTV on October, 12, 2012, both won in knockouts in the first and second round respectively
Additionally, undefeated super featherweight Logan McGuinness (18-0 9 KOs) is scheduled for 10 rounds with Carlos Manuel Reyes (23-1-1, 15 KOs) and welterweights Kevin Bizier (18-0, 13KOs) and upset specialist Doel Carrasquillo will duke it out as well.

Two Time Heavyweight Champ Tim Witherspoon Appointed VP of Malta Boxing Commission‏

Two Time Heavyweight Champ Tim Witherspoon Appointed VP of Malta Boxing
Commission

One of boxing’s greatest ambassadors, two time Heavyweight Champion of the
World ‘Terrible’ Tim Witherspoon, becomes the latest big name to join the
board of the newly revitalised Malta Boxing Commission.

The American superstar, who has been appointed Honorary Vice President,
joins fellow legend, two time, two division Champion of the World Steve
‘Celtic Warrior’ Collins, who was appointed President earlier this month
and his long time friend, Gianluca (Rio) Di Caro, who is a founding
partner and the other Vice President of the Malta Boxing Commission on the
top table.

Tim’s exceptional pro career began in 1979, fours years later, and with
just fifteen wins under his belt, Tim hit the Championship trail for the
first time in May 1983, when he challenged fellow Pennsylvanian Larry
Holmes for the title he’d held firmly in his vice like grip since 1978,
and had successfully defended no less than fourteen times previously, just
one less than the total of fights Tim had to date.

Considering this was Tim’s first tilt at a title, and against a long time
Champ like Larry Holmes, who had previously successfully defended against
such luminaries as Gerry Cooney, Leon Spinks, Trevor Berbick, Muhammad
Ali, Ernie Shavers, Ken Norton etc,, Tim put on a fantastic performance to
take big Larry the distance, something even the legendary Ali didn’t
manage, only to lose by a controversial split points decision (115-113,
118-111 & 114-115).

Tim may have ‘lost’ but at the same time he had ‘arrived’, that fight
against Holmes had put ‘Terrible’ Tim right up there as a true World class
boxer, and future World Champ.

Four months later Tim was back in Championship action, this time beating
James Tillis to secure the NABF title, which he vacated six months later,
after he rightly earned another shot at the WBC title, this time against
Greg Page, for the now vacant World Boxing Council version, following
Larry Holmes having switched from the WBC to Championship sanctioning
rivals, The International Boxing Federation (IBF).

On this, Tim’s second attempt, the Philadelphian finally became World
Champion by a majority points decision (117-111, 117-111 & 114-114).

Tim’s reign as WBC Heavyweight Champion of the World lasted just five
months, after he was beaten, by a majority points decision (112-115,
112-116 & 114-114), by Pinklon Thomas on his first defence of the title.

In April 1985 Tim was again in Championship action, when he successfully
secured the NABF title once more, with a second round knockout of James
Broad. Tim successfully defended the NABF Crown once, against James
‘Bonecrusher’ Smith, before turning his attention towards the World stage
once again.

This time Tim had the World Boxing Association Championship belt firmly in
his sights as he headed to Georgia, USA, in January 1986, to face WBA
Champ Tony ‘TNT’ Tubbs.

After fifteen exhilarating rounds, Tim emerged victorious, by a very close
majority points decision (144-143, 143-143 & 144-141), to become a two
time Heavyweight Champion of the World.

For his first defence Tim crossed the pond, to face the ‘Pride Of England’
Frank Bruno in his own back yard, at the famous home of English Football -
Wembley Stadium.

In front of over forty thousand baying partisan fans, and millions more
watching on TV, Frank Bruno seemed to be heading towards certain victory
after ten rounds, however Frank’s muscular physique and high work rate,
seemed to work together to noticeably drain him at the start of the
eleventh.

After two minutes of high tempo back and forth action both men connected
with big right hands to the head, Tim held his punch much better than
Frank, the combination of fatigue and a known suspect chin was too much
for the challenger, who crumbled in the corner, while Tim let rip with
bomb after bomb until referee Isidro Rodriguez stepped in to stop the
fight with just three seconds of the round left on the clock.

For his second defence Tim had the short hop from his Philadelphia home to
Madison Square Gardens, New York, to face his old foe James ‘Bonecrusher’
Smith.

This time though ‘Bonecrusher’ exerted maximum revenge on Tim, by knocking
him out in the second minute of the first round.

Whilst Tim never again fought for a World title, he did add the USBA
Heavyweight title to his collection, as well as unsuccessfully challenge
for the WBO Continental Americas and Intercontinental titles before
retiring from active duty in 2003.

Since retiring Tim has kept busy, as a trainer to his son Tim Jnr and
others lucky enough to catch the big man’s attention, as well as being a
celebrity, unlike most these days Tim is a genuine Celebrity with a
capital C, guest speaker and a magnificent ambassador for the Sport Of
Boxing.

Of his appointment of Honorary Vice President of the Malta Boxing
Commission Tim said.

“It’s a true honour to have been asked to be part of such an exciting
young organisation.

It’s great for Malta, or any country, to have a national Boxing
association that makes sure that boxers are properly licensed and looked
after.

Boxing is in a sad state right now and we’ve all got to work together,
boxers, officials, everybody has to work together to get the sport back to
where it used to be.

All the hard stuff and the things I have fought for in the past is picking
up now, you know, so them having me involved with the Malta Boxing
Commission is just beautiful and I’m really looking forward to
participating in the commission.

Steve (Collins) is a brilliant guy, Steve as an individual is great, with
Steve Collins there’s no bull, so I know we have the right guy on top of
the board.

We’ve done several things together in the past, so I know you can trust
Steve, if there’s one guy you can trust, besides me, it’s Steve Collins.

Not just that, but it’s gonna be great to work with my friend Rio
(Gianluca Di Caro) again. I know that Steve and Rio are dedicated and
professional boxing people, as are the rest of the commission, which can
only be good for Boxing in Malta.”

Hyland's stock rises after Vegas gamble on Pacquiao - Marquez card

Hyland's stock rises after Vegas gamble on Pacquiao - Marquez card

Patrick Hyland will return home to Dublin without the WBA title belt he came to Las Vegas for but he leaves the Nevada desert with his reputation very much enhanced after a points defeat to Javier Fortuna last night.

The two unbeaten fighters put their perfect records on the line at a sold out MGM Grand Garden Arena with the WBA Interim Featherweight title at stake in a bout televised live in over 50 countries as part of the supporting card to the fourth instalment of the Juan Manuel Marquez - Manny Pacquiao rivalry. Marquez finally vanquished his great rival with a stunning sixth round KO after both men had been on the canvas earlier in the fight.

There were no knockdowns in the Hyland - Fortuna bout despite Fortuna's reputation as a big hitter and one of boxing's rising stars. However Hyland proved that he also belonged at world level by pushing the southpaw from the Dominican Republic all the way. All three judges scored the fight for Fortuna by margins of 115 - 113, 116 - 112 and 118 - 110 but Hyland's performance made a mockery of his pre fight status as as a 10/1 underdog at the Las Vegas sports books.

However despite putting in a performance that exceeded most expectations the 29 year old Dubliner revealed his own disappointment after the fight. "I'm sorry for everyone back home that I won't be bringing the World title belt back with me," said Hyland. "A lot of fans made the long journey from Ireland to cheer me on in very hard economic times and I really appreciate that. It was great to hear their support in the arena and I know there was a few hundred supporters at home watching the fight live in the Kusanta Bar back in Tallaght. I'm really grateful for all the support I've had and it's just made me more determined than ever to win a World title now because I think I proved that I belong at that level.

"A lot of people were predicting that I would be out of my depth against Fortuna and were tipping him to blow me away in a round or two. They obviously didn't know me and I just found it pretty funny to be written off like that but I'm a stubborn Irishman and I think I proved a lot of people wrong. Fortuna was billed as the next big thing in boxing but I felt I burst his bubble in there. He had a reputation as a huge puncher but I can honestly say he never hurt me at any point and I think he was quite wary of my own power. He certainly wasn't as reckless as he has been in all his other fights so I think he respected my power a lot more than his previous opponents.

"He's a good boxer and he fought a very smart fight so I don't really have any complaints with the result but I felt it was closer than some of the scorecards and there was very little in it at the finish. I was the one trying to force the fight. He was hard to pin down with clean shots but the longer the fight went the more comfortable I felt in there and the less comfortable he felt."

Prior to a post fight visit to hospital to check on a possible injured shoulder Fortuna confirmed that the fight was much harder than anticipated. "I thought it would be easy but it was not," said the new WBA interim champ. "I underestimated Hyland and had to work hard. It was complicated in there."

Hyland says he wants to return to winning ways as soon as possible with the experience of fighting on boxing's biggest stage having whetted his appetite for further big nights.

"I enjoyed the fight and the whole week here in Las Vegas has been an incredible experience and I have learned so much from it," said Hyland. "From press conferences with 50 Cent and having Mike Tyson support me at the weigh and then having Mitt Romney ringside watching the fight and of course Snooki supporting me as my promoter. It's all been pretty surreal for a lad from Jobstown but it's just given me a taste for more big fights and I want to get back in there as soon as possible and get back to winning ways.

"That's my first defeat in 28 fights and I hate to lose but I want to get right back in there again at top level and get back to winning ways. If Fortuna wants it then I'd love a rematch or else a match up with some of the other top featherweights out there like the IBF champ Billy Dib or the winner of the upcoming WBO title fight between Orlando Salido and Mikey Garcia."

Punisher Hyland hits Vegas in search of early Christmas present‏

Patrick "The Punisher" Hyland touched down in Las Vegas at the weekend as he wraps up preparations for the biggest fight of his life. The Dubliner hits boxing's big time on December 8th when he takes on Javier Fortuna for the WBA Interim Featherweight title at the MGM Grand on a bill headlined by the fourth clash between Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez.

It's the realisation of a lifelong dream for Hyland who holds the longest current unbeaten run in Irish boxing with 27 straight wins to his name. The 29 year old plans on extending that to 28 in Las Vegas and returning home to Tallaght with an early Christmas present by wrapping the WBA belt around his waist.

"It's every kids dream to fight for a world title so to do it on such a big stage on a Manny Pacquiao card in Las Vegas live on US TV is an added bonus," said Hyland. "Fighting for the world title will fulfil a lifelong ambition and now the opportunity is finally almost here. This is what I've worked for since the very first day I put on a pair of boxing gloves so it's a dream come true.

"I've felt ready to step up to World level for a while now so December 8th will be a chance for me to show everybody what I'm about. This is the biggest test of my career to date but when you get to World title level you have to face the best and I've always wanted to test myself against the very best."

Fortuna has been impressing fight fans in compiling a 20 fight unbeaten record that has seen him KO 15 of his opponents to date and in the process gain a reputation as one of the sports rising stars. However Hyland feels that the Dominican Republic puncher has yet to be truly tested and is promising to deliver the ultimate examination of his world title credentials at the MGM Grand.

"There has been a lot of hype about Fortuna and deservedly so because he's had some decent wins," said Hyland. "He comes out of the blocks quickly and has a lot of first round knockouts so I'll have to weather the early storm. A storm always blows itself out though so lets see what he's like later in the fight because I plan to take him into deeper waters and drown him.

"Training has gone very well, I worked very hard at my training camp in upstate New York and I'm feeling nice and sharp and ready for fight night. He's a southpaw but that has never been an issue for me. In fact I've KO'd every southpaw I've met so far in the pro ranks so hopefully I can keep that streak going against Fortuna.

"Obviously everything is on the line for both of us in this fight. As the old cliche says, 'somebody's 0 has gotta go' but there is a major incentive for us to shine and the winner is going to go on to some massive unification fights and headline big cards like this in their own right."

Hyland's manager Brian Peters has described the fight as a "massive opportunity" for Hyland. "Patrick wants to prove himself at World level and he jumped at the fight when it was offered. It's a massive opportunity, for a very good purse on the biggest stage possible. It's a huge step up but Patrick feels ready for these kinds of fights now. He will have to be very careful in those first few rounds because Fortuna is so dangerous early on but after a few rounds I think it will become a completely different fight and Patrick can start to take over."

JI-HOON KIM READY FOR BELTRAN THIS THURSDAY ON ESPN 2

This Thursday a gigantic boxing weekend in Las Vegas kicks off with an important Lightweight tussle between two-world ranked fighters with major implications.
Exciting Ji-Hoon Kim (#3 IBF; #7 WBO) and Ray Beltran (#9 WBC) will fight a ten round battle for the NABF Lightweight crown that will be televised live from the Mirage Hotel on ESPN 2.
Kim of Goyang City, South Korea has a record of 24-7 with eighteen knockouts and is generally regarded and one of the most exciting fighters in the world.
Kim knows that at big win over Beltran puts him right back at the front of the line to compete for the Lightweight championship of the world.
In 2010, Kim lost a decision to Miguel Vazquez for the vacant IBF crown and a win on Thursday night could set up a rematch with the classy Mexican champion.
Ironically just two days later in Las Vegas, Vazquez will be defending his crown against undefeated Mercito Gesta as part of the Manny Pacquiao – Juan Manuel Marquez Pay-Per-View undercard.
“This is a very important fight for Ji-Hoon”, said Kim’s promoter Artie Pelullo of Banner Promotions.
“If he takes care of business on Thursday then we have some great options as he is the highest rated contender in the IBF.  We would welcome the opportunity to fight WBO champion Ricky Burns for which we have talked to Frank Warren about that possible fight  We would also set our sights on WBC champion Adrien Broner and obviously we would love a rematch with Vazquez. If Gesta wins, I think a fight with him would have be a tremendous action fight plus it be a very big fight that would draw a great amount of attention in Asia”

AN ALL OUT BRAWL AT HECTOR CAMACHO’S FUNERAL!

The funeral of boxing legend Hector 'Macho' Camacho erupted into chaos after a fight broke out between a woman claiming to be his girlfriend, a former lover and his sisters.

Family, fans and fellow boxers had gathered in San Juan, Puerto Rico on Tuesday to say goodbye to the slain former world champion fighter, known for his flamboyance in and out of the ring.
The brawl broke out after 28-year-old Cynthia Castillo, dressed in a pink T-shirt emblazoned with Camacho's face, leaned down to kiss his body in the open casket.
She then walked into an area reserved for family - causing tensions to spill over with the boxer's sisters and former lover, 50-year-old Gloria Fernandez.
The scuffle migrated outside the memorial service, followed by a pack of journalists brandishing camera phones and police who separated the women.
Miss Castillo said she was the boxer's girlfriend before he died, calling him 'my partner, my friend, my brother', according to El Nuevo Dia.

Police urged the young woman to leave the scene while the sisters returned to the service.
There were emotional scenes throughout the day as members of Camacho's immediate family approached the coffin.
The boxer's mother Maria Matias wept and caressed her son's face in the coffin, which was draped in a Puerto Rican flag. 'They killed him,' she wailed at one point.
Hundreds of people filed past Camacho's open casket, displayed inside a gymnasium decked out for the occasion with black carpet and curtains.
The boxer wore white, along with a large gold crucifix and a necklace spelling out his nickname, 'Macho,' in capital letters.
Camacho was shot on November 20 while sitting in a parked car with a friend outside a bar in his hometown of Bayamon. The friend died at the scene and the boxer three days later after doctors removed him from life support.
Police have said they have suspects but have not yet arrested anyone for the shooting.

After the family, came a cross-section of Puerto Rican society that included parents with young children, the elderly, road crew workers in neon safety vests, U.S. soldiers in uniform and a who's who of Puerto Rican boxers.
'Everybody loved him here in Puerto Rico,' said Henry Neumann, the secretary of the U.S. island territory's sports and recreation department.
'He is one of those athletes who transcended the barriers of his country not only for his skill inside the ring but for his personality.'

Camacho, who was 50 when he died, left Puerto Rico as a child and moved to New York.
He went on to win super lightweight, lightweight and junior welterweight world titles in the 1980s and fought high-profile bouts against Felix Trinidad, Julio Cesar Chavez and Sugar Ray Leonard. He had a career record of 79-6-3 and was a showman in the ring, chanting 'It's Macho time' before fights and wearing garish jewelry.
He battled drug and alcohol problems throughout his life and had frequent run-ins with police.

He was sentenced in 2007 to seven years in prison for the burglary of a computer store in Mississippi. While arresting him on the burglary charge in January 2005, police also found the drug ecstasy.
A judge eventually suspended all but one year of the sentence and gave Camacho probation. He wound up serving two weeks in jail, though, after violating that probation.
When he was shot, police found an open package of cocaine in the car and nine unopened packages on his friend.
A police officer in Bayamon, Raul Nazario, recalled at the wake how he saw Camacho one day and drove over in his squad car to greet him, but the boxer fled. Later, out of uniform, the officer said he ran into him again and they exchanged a laugh and Camacho posed with him for a photo.
'For Puerto Rican people he was something great,' Nazario said.
Many of those in attendance had similar personal encounters.
Doris Correa, a 71-year-old from the town of Vega Baja, showed a photo she took of Camacho in the 1980s, when her family and his happened to be camping in the same campground in the island's southwest. At one point, he grabbed a microphone, declared 'it's Macho time,' and began singing for everyone.
'Back then, we didn't know what karaoke was,' she said. 'He invented it.'
Boxer Juan Manuel 'Juanma' Lopez, one of several dozen fighters on hand to say goodbye, recalled Camacho's dazzling speed in the ring.
'He was definitely a showman,' he said. 'It was something grandiose.'
The memorial and wake was scheduled to last two days. Family members have not yet announced the location and date of the funeral. His lawyer, Linda George, told Radio Isla 1320 that it would be in New York.
Shot while sitting in a parked car outside a bar Tuesday with a friend in the city of Bayamon, he was declared dead at the Centro Medico trauma center in San Juan.

Originally from Bayamon, just outside San Juan, Camacho was long regarded as a flashy if volatile talent, a skilled boxer who was perhaps overshadowed by his longtime foil, Mexican superstar Julio Cesar Chavez, who would beat him in a long-awaited showdown in Las Vegas in 1992.
'This is something I've done all my life, you know?' Camacho told The Associated Press after a workout in 2010. 'A couple years back, when I was doing it, I was still enjoying it. The competition, to see myself perform. I know I'm at the age that some people can't do this no more.'
Camacho's family moved to New York when he was young and he grew up in Spanish Harlem, which at the time was rife with crime. Camacho landed in jail as a teenager before turning to boxing, which for many kids in his neighborhood provided an outlet for their aggression.
Former featherweight champion Juan Laporte, a friend since childhood, described Camacho as 'like a little brother who was always getting into trouble,' but otherwise combined a friendly nature with a powerful jab.
'He's a good human being, a good-hearted person,' Laporte said as he waited with other friends and members of the boxer's family outside the hospital in San Juan after the shooting. 'A lot of people think of him as a cocky person but that was his motto ... inside he was just a kid looking for something.'
Laporte lamented that Camacho never found a mentor outside the boxing ring.
'The people around him didn't have the guts or strength to lead him in the right direction,' Laporte said. 'There was no one strong enough to put a hand on his shoulder and tell him how to do it.'
Camacho's former wife, Amy, obtained a restraining order against him in 1998, alleging he threatened her and one of their children. The couple, who had two children at the time, later divorced.
He divided his time between Puerto Rico and Florida in recent years, appearing on Spanish-language television as well as on a reality show called 'Es Macho Time!' on YouTube.

World Champion Steve Collins Appointed President Of The Malta Boxing
Commission

The Malta Boxing Commission today announced that World Champion Steve
‘Celtic Warrior’ Collins has been appointed as their new President.

Mr Collins takes over the role from Interim President Gianluca Di Caro,
who temporarily took the reigns of the Malta Boxing Commission in October,
following the removal of former President Alexander Zammit for gross
misconduct and negligence.

Following his appointment Mr Collins said, “I am honoured to be the new
President of the Malta Boxing Commission.

I have always believed that there is potential for Maltese based fighters,
national Maltese fighters, who have not had the opportunity to break into
the professional ranks.

The Malta Boxing Commission isn’t big, but it is an organisation that is
determined to do it’s best for the young upcoming fighters on the islands.

It’s a professional board of control that’s accepted by boxing sanctioning
organisations world wide, which is very important to us, we’re glad about
this as this recognition enables us to hold professional boxing events in
Malta.

On a more personal note, besides my involvement with boxing on the
Islands, I have family connections here, my brother is involved with one
of the professional football teams in Malta, so I am looking forward to
spending even more time here in the future.”

Outgoing Interim President Mr Di Caro, who is a founding partner of the
Malta Boxing Commission, then spoke briefly on the appointment of the new
President.

“We, the entire board of the Malta Boxing Commission, are proud to
announce that our new President is Mr Steve Collins.

Throughout his career Steve has been an exemplary ambassador for the
sport, as well as possessing a superlative boxing pedigree.

As an amateur he won 26 Irish titles, as a pro he achieved the pinnacle of
the sport, World Champion, not just the once but at two weights –
Middleweight and Super Middleweight - as well as won both Irish and
American National Championship honours.

Since retiring from the ring in 1997, Steve has remained very much “hands
on” within the sport, not just in Malta but also the UK and of course his
homeland of Ireland.

As such we, the board of the Malta Boxing Commission, are particularly
pleased to welcome Steve to the organisation, as we believe that under his
leadership we will finally achieve our aim of developing a professional
boxing culture within the Republic of Malta.”

In addition the Malta Boxing Commission have strengthened the board
further by appointing former Malta Boxing Federation CEO Mr Carmelu
Cardona to the role of Vice Chairman and Dr Matthew Brincat, Chairman of
the Marsa Race Course, to the role of Head of Legal, as well as ratified
all long standing board members roles.

In addition the board members agreed to the amending of the Malta Boxing
Commission statutes, in order to prevent any single board member assuming
an autocratic and self benefiting role, as with former President Mr
Alexander Zammit during his tenure, to ensure that all decisions are made
in a truly democratic manner by the appropriate committee, for the
benefit of the MBC members and the sport of boxing.
