The history of female athletic combat goes far back into centuries, although not too many historical documents remain, especially for the period before the XX century. The substantial part of materials for this selection has been taken from the book
“Women’s Sports: A History" by Allen Guttman (Columbia University press, 1991), which contains some information regarding women in combative sports. (Other sources will be pointed to particularly). Following the author we leave beyond our consideration the period after middle the XX century and armed combat. During the entire period from the ancient times until the XIX century female athletic combat (as women’s sports in general) hadn’t been mass except Ancient Sparta. Female combative sports became relatively mass just at the end of the XX century.
