NEW TOWN, North Dakota– Sovereign Nations Boxing Council (SNBC) debuts tomorrow night (Saturday, November 22) when cruiserweights Matt “Too Smooth” Godfrey and Eddie “The Iron Man” Gutierrez fight for the first SNBC title headlining a special card, promoted by Jimmy Burchfield’s Classic Entertainment and Sports, Inc., at 4 Bears Casino in New Town, North Dakota.
SNBC links federally recognized tribes throughout the United States and Canada. SNBC’s mission is to develop, promote and help regulate boxing in a fair and professional manner by federally recognized tribes that are sovereign nations.
“What makes SNBC different from other native organizations is that it’s not based on race,” SNBC president Pat Packineau explained. “SNBC has been created to draw awareness that tribal casinos host numerous boxing events every year and our new organization unites tribes in the sport by having our own championship belt. Boxers of any race may capture the SNBC championship, as long as the title fight is contested on federally recognized land or have off-tribal sites approved in advance by the SNBC board of directors.
“The SNBC’s goal is to bring notoriety to Native American casino boxing events and recognize the athletes competing on Tribal Lands for SNBC championships. We’re excited to host the first SNBC title fight at 4 Bears Casino.”
Godfrey and Gutierrez, both Native Americans, square-off in tomorrow night’s 10-round main event for the SNBC cruiserweight title. Providence-native Godfrey (17-1, 10 KOs), rated No. 3 by the WBC, is the reigning NABF cruiserweight champion, while Gutierrez (15-5-1, 6 KOs), fighting out of Oakland (CA), is a former Illinois State cruiserweight title-holder.

U.S. Olympians J. Estrada & D. Andrade featured on “Holiday Havoc” Nov. 29 at Twin River Event Center, RI
PROVIDENCE– Rhode Island’s only representatives ever on the U.S. Olympic Boxing Team, Jason “Big Six” Estrada (2004) and Demetrius “Boo Boo” Andrade (2008), will be showcased November 29 on “Holiday Havoc” at Twin River Event Center in Lincoln, Rhode Island.

“Holiday Havoc” is promoted by Jimmy Burchfield’s Classic Entertainment and Sports, Inc. (CES), in association with Twin River and CN8, The Comcast Network as well as (for Andrade’s fight) Banner Promotions and Star Boxing.
The show will be taped live and air Saturday, December 13 at 7:00 PM/ET on CN8, The Comcast Network in New England and the Baltimore/Washington D.C. market, as well as on Cox Sports Television at a date and time to be determined.
“I’m inviting all of our fans, friends and family to celebrate our big pre-holiday show, the last CES card of 2008, at Twin River on November 29th,” CES president Jimmy Burchfield said. “What better way of ending the year than by watching our two Olympians in action? Rhode Island didn’t have an U.S. Olympic boxer until Jason in 2004 and now he and this year’s Olympian, ‘Boo Boo,’ are fighting on this great card. We have a lot of other talented fighters in five entertaining bouts on the undercard. In the spirit of the upcoming holidays, we’re working with the U.S. Marines ‘Toys For Tots’ program, and are encouraging everyone to bring a toy to the show for less fortunate children.”
Estrada and Andrade are two of the most decorated U.S. amateur boxers of all-time. Estrada was 261-14 in U.S. competition and the first boxer to win both the U.S. Nationals and U.S. Challenge three years (2001-2003) in a row, in addition to a gold medal in the 2003 Pan-Am Games.
Andrade, who was a 2-time U.S. Nationals and National Golden Gloves champion, captured a gold medal in the 2008 AIBA World Championships.
Ever-improving heavyweight prospect Estrada (14-1, 3 KOs), now rated No. 7 in the NABF, takes on Cuban warrior Elieser Castillo (30-6-2, 17 KOs) in the 8-round main event. Castillo has already beaten one U.S. Olympian, 1996 captain Lawrence Clay Bey (KO9), for the NABF Interim title that Elieser was later awarded outright.
Andrade (1-0, 1 KO) made his pro debut this past October, stopping Patrick Cape (4-2) in the second round of their fight in the state of Washington. “Boo Boo” will make his hometown pro debut Nov. 29 in a Special Super Welterweight Attraction on “Holiday Havoc.”
Former USBA champion Jason Pires, now a police officer in his hometown of New Bedford (MA), makes a comeback after being out of the ring for more than five years in a 6-round welterweight bout versus Joshua Onyango (14-16-1, 11 KOs), former Commonwealth title holder.
Providence super middleweight Bobo “The Bull” Starnino and “Irish” Joey McCreedy (8-2-1, 5 KOs), of Lowell (MA), square-off in a 6-round rematch of a draw the two fought last August.
Also on the undercard in 4-round bouts is unbeaten Pawtucket (RI) lightweight Eddie “The Puerto Rican Sensation” Soto (9-0, 4 KOs) against 37-fight veteran Jose Angel “Lucky” Roman; Warwick (RI) super middleweight Keith Kozlin (1-0) fights Eric Clinton (0-4-1), Providence junior lightweight Omar Pena (0-0-1) meets Lindberg Freeman (0-1); Lowell junior welterweight Sean Eklund (6-2, 1 KO) makes his CES debut with his uncle in his corner as head trainer, “Irish” Micky Ward.

Jason Estrada: “This is my fifth fight at Twin River. I was on the first show there and I’ve fought there more than anybody. It’s becoming a nice trend. On the 29th, I was supposed to fight Derek Bryant, a slick southpaw, but he got cold feet and pulled out for the second time. I don’t understand it…..no pride. I’ve never turned down an opponent because I don’t think anybody can beat me. I’m flashy and confident. I retire them (opponents). After they fight me there’s nothing more. I’m going to show everybody what I can do on the 29th. Afterwards we’re going to announce a nice surprise that will shock everybody.”

Manfredo-Bika IBO world title fight headlines “Tough & Tested”; Brewer-Bundrage IBO title eliminator in co-feature Nov. 13 at Dunkin’ Donuts Center in Providence, live on Versus
PROVIDENCE – Tickets go on sale Wednesday (Oct. 15 at 10 AM/ET) for the November 13th “Tough & Tested” pro boxing show, headlined by an IBO super middleweight title fight between “The Pride of Providence” Peter Manfredo, Jr., runner-up in Season One of The Contender, and Sakio “The Scorpian” Bika, winner of Season Three of The Contender, at the newly renovated Dunkin’ Donuts Center in Providence, Rhode Island.
“Tough & Tested,” co-promoted by the Tournament of Contenders and Jimmy Burchfield’s Classic Entertainment and Sports, Inc. (CES), will air nationally live on Versus television. “Tough & Tested” will feature at least five fighters who are “Contender” alumni: Manfredo and Bika in the main event, Grady “Bad Boy” Brewer, winner of Season Two of The Contender, versus fan favorite in Season Two of The Contender, Cornelius “K9” Bundrage, in the IBO light middleweight title eliminator co-feature; runner-up in Season Three of The Contender, Jaidon “The Don” Codrington, in a super middleweight Special Attraction.
“CES, The Contender, Peter and Sakio all want to celebrate the grand re-opening of ‘The Dunk’ by bringing in the IBO world championship title fight between Manfredo and Bika,” promoter Jimmy Burchfield said. “This will be the first pro boxing show at the new Dunkin’ Donuts Center as well as the first major world title fight held there in 17 years, since Vinny Paz stopped Gilbert Dele (at the Providence Civic Center as it was known then) in the 12th round for the WBA light middleweight belt. Manfredo versus Bika is going to be a very tough fight. We also have a good co-feature, the Brewer-Bundrage IBO title eliminator, and we’re putting together a strong, competitive and entertaining undercard starting with Codrington.
“We all want to give something back, too. ‘Tough & Tested’ will benefit the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation (www.gloriagemma.org). We’re calling for a ‘Pink Out’ (everybody wearing something colored pink) to show support for this great cause. A portion of the proceeds from ticket and T-shirt sales will go to the Gloria Gemma Foundation for research into early breast cancer detection.”
Manfredo and Bika have combined to fight in four world title fights and one of them will walk away with the IBO world title belt on Nov. 13.
“The Contender is pleased to stage its third fight in Providence, Rhode Island,” The Contender executive producer Jeff Wald commented. “Providence feels like our second home and we’re grateful for the support Providence has given The Contender and ‘The Pride of Providence.’ Peter Manfredo fought two fan friendly fights against Sergio Mora, as well as two great fights in Providence against (Scott) Pemberton and (Joey) Spina. Sakio Bika went the distance in two world championship fights and won The Contender, Season Three in what many believed was the Fight of the Year against Codrington. Bika’s also an exciting fighter. Manfredo and Bika should be dynamite.
“Grady Brewer won Season Two of The Contender against Steve Forbes, who has gone on to fight Oscar De La Hoya and Andre Berto. His opponent, ‘K9’ Bundrage, just beat former world champion Kasim Ouma. Brewer-Bundrage looks like another exciting fight. Jaidon Codrington knows how to box and he also has knockout power. He was the other half of the Fight of the Year candidate with Bika. Everybody working on The Contender is a big supporter in the fight against breast cancer and we’re thrilled to be associated with the Gloria Gemma Foundation. Manfredo (31-5, 16 KOs), the reigning NABF Interim champion, is the WBC No. 13 rated super middleweight. Fighting in front of his hometown fans, “The Pride of Providence” sports a perfect 16-0 (10 KOs) record in Rhode Island, including 3-0 (3 KOs) in the same Providence building as his Nov. 13th showdown against Bika. Manfredo’s five pro career losses have all come at the hands of world champions.
IBF Pan Pacific super middleweight title-holder Bika, a 2000 Cameroon Olympian now fighting out of Australia, won The Contender III with a dramatic eighth round stoppage of Bridgeport, Connecticut native Codrington (18-2, 14 KOs) in the finale in Boston. Bika, rated No. 5 by the IBF and No. 8 by The Ring magazine, hasn’t been stopped in 31 pro fights.
In the 10-round co-feature, Brewer (23-11, 13 KOs), former IBA light middleweight champion, takes on Bundrage (28-3, 16 KOs), IBF rated No. 13, in the IBO junior middleweight title eliminator.

BJ FLORES SETS THE RECORD STRAIGHT ABOUT GODFREY "OFFER"
PHOENIX, AZ- World ranked and undefeated cruiserweight BJ Flores wanted to set the record straight regarding media reports that he rejected an “offer” to fight CES promoted Matt Godfrey next month on ESPN2.
Speaking following a training session with former heavyweight world champion Hasim Rahman in Phoenix, Arizona, Flores said, “Let me set the record straight. CES has Aaron Williams and Matt Godfrey. Williams had wanted to fight me after my win over Darnell Wilson in February. I was fine with that at the time, but I was okay with waiting until after his fight with Jose Luis Herrera.”
“Williams got knocked out by Herrera so we said let’s fight Herrera. We went back and for with Jimmy Burchfield from CES for a while about terms. I don’t think CES wanted us to fight Herrera and we get asked if we’re interested in fighting Godfrey. No date, no money offer, no location. Just if we’re interested.
“We needed to know much more about the deal, especially the money, date, network and location. And that’s what we asked for and they never provided that specific information let alone showed us a contract. A request for more information does not constitute a rejection.”
“The bottom line is that Matt’s a gent; he was down here in Phoenix with me training with Hasim. We get along fine but I don’t think he wants to fight me for short end money, like $15,000, on ESPN, when the fight is worth much more. Nothing against ESPN, they’ve been great to me, but the purses should be bigger for us to fight, especially if I have to go to CES’s backyard to do it.”
"We’ve both worked hard in our careers to get to this point; this would be a SHOBOX or HBO Boxing After Dark type bout. It’s perfect for them and in keeping with what they’re trying to. Bottom line is make us a true offer and we’ll make a decision. If I had no fear of the biggest puncher in the division, I have no fear of anyone else."
Said longtime manager of Flores, Lou Mesorano, “All due respect to Jimmy Burchfield, this fight doesn’t make sense for ESPN money. It’s worth much more than that. We’re willing to fight anyone and proved that in our last bout with Wilson.”
“These are the two best American cruisers. This is the pros, not the amateurs.”
Flores, 21-0-1 (13KO’s) is currently ranked # 2 by the IBF, # 5 by the WBO and # 8 by the WBA.

Flores rejects CES offer to fight Godfrey on ESPN show
PROVIDENCE– Classic Entertainment & Sports, Inc. (CES) president Jimmy Burchfield has expressed his disappointed that USBA cruiserweight champion BJ Flores (21-0-1, 12 KOs) has rejected an offer to fight NABF cruiserweight title-holder Matt “Too Smooth” Godfrey (16-1, 9 KOs) in an ESPN2 main event next month.
Flores is rated No. 2 by the IBF, as well as No. 7 and No. 8, respectively, by the WBO and WBA. Godfrey, ranked No. 5 by the WBC, was dropped from the WBA and IBF rankings when he fought Rudy Kraj (LDEC12) this past February in an WBC title eliminator.
The cruiserweight division has been left wide open with David Haye’s recent move up to the heavyweight ranks. Flores and Godfrey are two of the top American cruiserweights in a division now primarily ruled by Europeans, excluding IBF title-holder Steve Cunningham.
“Flores and his people refused the challenge to fight Godfrey on ESPN2,” Burchfield said. “They’ve been shooting their mouths off in the media about wanting to fight a top cruiserweight, but they claim that there isn’t enough money in a fight against Godfrey, that it belongs on HBO or Showtime. Well, HBO and Showtime aren’t interested in that fight. Flores hasn’t had a fight since he beat Darnell Wilson (WDEC12) last December on ESPN2. I think they’re being shortsighted. The winner of a fight between BJ and Matt would be the top American challenger at 200-pounds and then HBO and Showtime would have to be interested. Both BJ and Matt need a big win to get to that level.
“Look, BJ, I can have a contract to you within 24 hours. You’ve talked a lot, now it’s time to put your name on the dotted line. It was time to put up or shut up and I guess BJ shut up. Reconsider and take the fight. This is the second time I’ve offered you a fight against Godfrey.
The last time you were promoted by Silverhawk and I don’t know if you ever knew about it. You do now. We believe Matt Godfrey is the top American cruiserweight contender. Here’s you’re opportunity to prove you’re the real No. 1.”

“Pito” Cardona out of fight, going in CES Ring of Honor
HARTFOR– Hartford’s popular boxer Israel “Pito” Cardona injured his elbow, forcing him to withdraw from his scheduled June 13th fight against Jason Pires, but promoter Jimmy Burchfield has announced that Cardona will be inducted into the CES Ring of Honor during a special ceremony mid-way through the “Connecticut Conquest” pro boxing card at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford.
Promoter Jimmy Burchfield, president of Classic Entertainment and Sports, Inc. (CES), established the CES Ring of Honor in 2005 in order to pay respect to inductees for their special accomplishments and contributions to New England boxing. Charter members include 5-time world champion Vinny “The Pazmanian Devil” Paz, former WBA and WBC welterweight title-holder Marlon “Magic Man” Starling, and 3-time The Ring Fighter of the Year (2001-2003) participant “Irish” Micky Ward. Other CES Ring of Honor members include former 3-time world champion “El Gallo” Jose Antonio Rivera, world light heavyweight contender “Iceman” John Scully, “Sucra” Ray Oliveira, famed Connecticut trainer Johnny Dukes, and 2008 U.S. Olympian Demetrious “Boo Boo” Andrade. The last inductee was the late, great Rocky Marciano.
“Connecticut Conquest,” promoted by Jimmy Burchfield’s Classic Entertainment and Sports, Inc., (CES) will be taped live and air Saturday, June 14 at 8 PM/ET on CN8,The Comcast Network, as well as Friday, June 20 at 8 PM/ET on Cox Sports Television.
WBC World Youth featherweight champion Matt “Sharp Shooter” Remillard (11-0, 7 KOs), fighting out of nearby Manchester and recently named the NABF Top Prospect of the Year, headlines in his first title defense versus Mexican challenger Jose Magallon in the 10-round main event.

Remillard enjoys home cookin’; Friday the 13th at the Connecticut Convention Center
HARTFORD- WBC World Youth featherweight champion Matt “Sharp Shooter” Remillard makes his first title defense on June 13, practically in his backyard at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford, against Mexican challenger Jose Magallon in the 10-round main event headlining “Connecticut Conquest.”
“Connecticut Conquest,” promoted by Jimmy Burchfield’s Classic Entertainment and Sports, Inc., will be taped live and air Wednesday, June 11 at 8 PM/ET on CN8,The Comcast Network, as well as Friday, June 20 at 8 PM/ET on Cox Sports Television.
“Every place we go claims to be the boxing capital of the past,” promoter Jimmy Burchfield remarked. “We’re giving each city a chance to show that it is the boxing capital of the future, starting with Hartford, Connecticut. The Connecticut Convention Center is doing everything possible in partnership with CES to bring world class boxing back to Hartford.”
Remillard (13-0, 7 KOs), fighting out of nearby Manchester, won the WBC World Youth crown last January via an impressive 10-round decision against Manuel Perez (11-3), after Matt was sidelined for nearly 16-months due to a wrist injury that twice required surgery.
“It feels great to be fighting at home,” Remillard said. “Most fighters don’t get an opportunity to fight in their hometown and I’m privileged to have my first title defense at home. It makes me work even harder in the gym, knowing I’ll be fighting in front of my family and friends. There’s pressure in every fight, especially when you’re unbeaten. I guess it depends on how you deal with pressure. It’s either a negative or positive and I feel that it’s a positive. Nobody can help a fighter in the ring, but there is a hometown advantage hearing your fans root for you. I hope all my fans will be there June 13th.
“I’m not feeling any pain in my hand. I don’t hold back. If I land a punch and it hurts a little I’ll just shake it off and keep going. My hand feels better with the nicer weather. I’d never broken a bone before, but cold and rain bothers the bone. I know my opponent is a tough Mexican fighting out of Las Vegas. He comes to fight and loves to bang. He won’t take a step backwards, like me, and that’s going to make for a great fight.”
Remillard, despite losing 16-months because of his injury, still believes he’s being moved at the right pace. “I’m only 21 and turn 22 the day of the weigh in,” he noted. “I’m already 13-0, so I don’t worry about how fast I’m being moved. I’m in the right place at the right time.”

2004 U.S. Olympian Jason “Big Six” Estrada fighting again on ESPN2 FNF this week
PROVIDENCE 2004 U.S. Olympian Jason “Big Six” Estrada fights this week on ESPN2 Friday Night Fights for the second time in seven weeks when he faces Carolina heavyweight champion Moultrie “Jack Hammer” Witherspoon (14-1, 8 KOs) in an 8-round Special Heavyweight Attraction co-feature on “Ring Warriors,” promoted by Jimmy Burchfield’s Classic Entertainment and Sports, Inc. (CES), live from Twin River Events Center in Lincoln, Rhode Island.
Providence native Estrada (12-1, 2 KOs), rated No. 9 by the NABO, is coming off of arguably his most impressive victory as a pro, taking a one-sided 10-round decision from former NABO/NABA/WBC Continental Americas heavyweight champion Lance “Mount” Whitaker (32-5-1, 27 KOs) in their April 4 ESPN2 FNF show headliner.

Providence native Estrada (12-1, 2 KOs), rated No. 9 by the NABO, is coming off of arguably his most impressive victory as a pro, taking a one-sided 10-round decision from former NABO/NABA/WBC Continental Americas heavyweight champion Lance “Mount” Whitaker (32-5-1, 27 KOs) in their April 4 ESPN2 FNF show headliner.
On his personal mission to become heavyweight champion of the world, Estrada has fought anybody his promoter, Jimmy Burchfield, has put in the ring with him and none of them has had a losing record (203-73-9 combined record of his opponents when they fought Estrada).
“I’m not looking past Witherspoon,” Estrada said. “He’s coming to beat me, but it’s not happening in my house. I will be world heavyweight champion someday and he’s in my way. I’m real excited to be fighting on ESPN2 Friday Night fights for the second time in seven weeks. Fans all over can see what skills I take into the ring. The 27-year-old Estrada was one of the most highly decorated American amateur boxers ever, compiling an amazing 261-14 record in U.S. competition, becoming the first boxer to win both the U.S. Nationals and U.S. Challenge three years (2001-2003) in a row. Highlights of his amateur career included representing the United States in the 2004 Olympics and capturing a gold medal at the 2003 Pan-American Games.

Remillard defends WBC Youth title in Hartford; Headlining “Connecticut Conquest” June 13 at the Connecticut Convention Center
HARTFORD– WBC Youth featherweight champion Matt “Sharp Shooter” Remillard makes his title defense June 13 against Mexican challenger Jose Magallon in the 10-round main event headlining “Connecticut Conquest” at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford.
“Connecticut Conquest,” promoted by Jimmy Burchfield’s Classic Entertainment and Sports, Inc., will be taped live and air Saturday, June 14 at 7 PM/ET on CN8/The Comcast Network, as well as Friday, June 20 at 8 PM/ET on Cox Sports Television.
Remillard (13-0, 7 KOs), who hails from nearby Manchester, captured the WBC Youth crown this past January with a convincing 10-round decision versus Manuel Perez (11-3), ending Matt’s 16-months inactive stretch due to a wrist injury that twice required surgery. Remillard won a stay-busy fight March 21 with a win by four-round against veteran Jesus Salvador Perez. Mexican-native Magallon (8-4, 2 KOs), fighting out of Las Vegas, has won two in a row.
In the eight-round co-feature, unbeaten Connecticut heavyweight Tony “TNT” Grano (13-0-1, 11 KOs), 2005 U.S. Nationals champion, takes on the stiffest test of his young career, Thomas Hayes (26-2, 18 KOs), of Chicago.

Cardona, who unsuccessfully fought Paul Spadafora for the IBF lightweight championship nearly nine years ago, once held the IBO super featherweight and light welterweight belts, as well as the USBA and NABF lightweight crowns. “Pito” announced that this will be his last fight. Former USBA super bantamweight title-holder Pires has not fought in more than five years during which time he attended college and became a police officer.

The 6’ 8” Whitaker has beaten former world champions Oleg Maskaev and Al “Ice” Cole, as well as previously undefeated Robert Davis (22-0), and 2-time world title challenger Monte Barrett.
“I don’t care if he’s 6’ 8” because we’re not playing basketball,” the 27-year-old Estrada said. “(Mike) Tyson proved height doesn’t matter in heavyweight boxing. I have the kind of hand speed Whitaker’s never seen before. I fought a taller boxer in the amateurs - a 6-9 Cuban - and I beat him in Cuba. I’ll be putting pressure on him from the start. I’ll be going forward and he’ll be going backwards. I’m going to keep beating him to the punch. I’ll out-hustle him. I’m younger, stronger faster, quicker and more motivated. Fighting on ESPN2 in the main event is one more step I need to take. This is my moment. I’ve been waiting for this chance.”
Purlette may have more than twice as many knockouts as Williams has had pro fights, but the prodigy is far from intimidated. “I’ve known him a long time,” 9-time U.S. national amateur champion Williams noted. “We’ve sparred back in the day. The great Rocky Marciano will be posthumously inducted into the CES Ring of Honor in a special ceremony with his brother, Peter, accepting on behalf of the Marciano family. Marciano (49-0) fought 28 times in Providence, winning 24 by knockout.
Former Brown University football star, Super Bowl champion New York Giants linebacker/special team player Zak DeOssie, will also be honored.

The great Rocky Marciano will be posthumously inducted into the CES Ring of Honor in a special ceremony with his brother, Peter, accepting on behalf of the Marciano family. Marciano (49-0) fought 28 times in Providence, winning 24 by knockout.
Former Brown University football star, Super Bowl champion New York Giants linebacker/special team player Zak DeOssie, will also be honored.
Providence’s dangerous light heavyweight Joey “KO Kid” Spina (21-1-1, 15 KOs) takes on Quebec Boxing Council champion David Whittom (10-5-1, 6 KOs) in a 6-round bout. Also on the undercard is light heavyweight “Irish” Joey McCreedy (7-1, 5 KOs) versus “Hurricane” Henry Mayes (6-5-1, 4 KOs) in a 6-rounder, Russian super middleweight Andrey Nevsky (4-0, 3 KOs) against Fitzgerald Johnson (1-3, 1 KO), and flyweight Isander Beauchamp (4-0, 1 KO) tangles with pro debuting Rob Bell. Exciting Philadelphia super lightweight “Hammerin’” Hank Lundy (10-0-1, 6 KOs) has been added to the card.
