WORLD RANKED CRUISERWEIGHT B.J. FLORES WANTS UNDEFEATED LATEEF KAYODE

#2 WBO; #4WBA #4WBC world rated cruiserweight BJ Flores 27-1 (18kos) watched intently as the fight this past Saturday took place between Lateef "Power" Kayode vs. Antonio Tarver. He was hoping with the Showtime exposure that one of the two boxers would emerge as a star.

The bout ended in a draw. Neither guy moved forward, yet both received valuable tv time on a BIG time boxing network. BJ Flores was smiling.

"The cruiserweight division is definitely starting to heat up", Said Flores. Flores has been not only one of the most active cruiserweights in the world scoring 3 wins in the last 8 months, but has attracted very large gates in Springfield Missouri where he has a HUGE hometown following.

“Both guys fought well and Tarver started a little slow but came on down the stretch. He definitely Hurt Kayode and showed he can still punch. The decision being a draw was just. I was leaning towards Tarver but this fight was good for the division. Both guys fought well”

But one of the fighters is on the radar of Flores. Lateef Kayode.

Flores has desperately tried to secure a fight with the powerful Nigerian and now feels the timing is perfect.

“I want to make a formal challenge to Kayode. This is a fight between two top world rated Cruisersweights both trying to get into position for the world title. I need a fight like this to make a statement. A dangerous fight! A Big fight between two top #5 world rated guys on Showtime between us will be exciting and bring more notoriety to the cruiserweight division.”

“It’s no secret that I’ve wanted Kayode for a long time. After he beat Nick Iannuzzi , I contacted Gary Shaw Promotions immediately for a match between us. Well, they went in another direction and I fought Iannuzzi next to make a statement. They said the timing wasn’t right. I respect their decision. But now the Time couldn’t be more right! I have had 3 fights in 8 months and would love to face Kayode next. He has shown improvements and this fight can be big. We can do it in Springfield, Missouri and sell 5000 seats with this on Showtime or any network! But the truth of the matter is I will fight you anywhere. I just want it to be known that the money is there and we can easily make this happen”

“No cruiserweight can sell tickets in America like that so it makes perfect sense. Who else should Kayode fight with all the champions buys in upcoming defenses?? It’s a natural fight. Two top rated guys in America. We built up a VERY good fan base in Springfield and I want to bring a big fight back home. I am ready immediately!! Let’s get it done!!”

“This is the kind of fight I need. I respect Kayode and his manager Steve Feder. I respect Gary Shaw Productions. I know this will be a difficult fight and this will bring out the best in me. I need a challenge like this. GSP, my phone lines are open!”

WORLD RANKED CRUISERWEIGHT CONTENDER BJ FLORES TARGETS LATEEF KAYODE

World Ranked Cruiserweight, BJ Flores wants to make a statement and he has pinpointed the man that will not only make a fan friendly fight with, but be a fight of importance.

Fresh off his 5th round TKO victory of highly rated Nick Iannuzz on July 23rd, Flores wants world rated and undefeated cruiserweight Lateef Kayode next. Flores has a date in Springfield, Missouri in October and is more than willing to bring in the highly rated rugged Nigerian as his next opponent.

Flores is 25-1 with sixteen knockouts.

Kayode, 17-0 with fourteen knockouts is ranked Number one by the WBA; Number three by the WBO; number four the WBC; and Number five by the IBF.

"I wanted Kaydoe after the fight he had with Iannuzzi. For whatever reason, they went in another direction. Now I have another date in Springfield, Missouri at the end of October and Lateef is on the top of my list! I contacted his promoter today and still waiting for a response. I want to clear up any confusion about who the top US cruiserweight contender is. This is a new phase in my career”, said Flores

"We had a wonderful turnout at the O’Rielly Center and had over 2100 people at the event! The guys at the O’Rielly are very excited to do another show as are we! I will be fighting here every 3 months until I get a shot at a title! If Lateef Kayode will take the fight then he will be the next victim. If not that, I will fight another highly rated US contender."

“Kayode is rated higher than me and I'm willing to prove in the ring that I can beat him. It’s nothing personal but he has something I want and that’s a number-one ranking by the WBA and top five rating by all three other sanctioning bodies. He stands in my way of returning to a title fight and I want to set the record straight that I will fight any cruiserweight that is in my way of a title shot"!

CRUISERWEIGHT CONTENDER B.J. FLORES RETURNS HOME TO FACE NICK IANNUZZI ON JULY 23RD IN SPRINGFIELD, MO

INTERIM NABO AND NABA TITLES ON THE LINE THAT WILL HEADLINE A SPECIAL NIGHT OF BOXING AND MMA;

WORLD RANKED CRUISERWEIGHT B.J. FLORES FORMS DANGER BOY EVENTS PROMOTIONS THAT WILL DEBUT ON JULY 23RD IN SPRINGFIELD, MISSOURI‏
Dangerboy events in association with Chavez promotions partners up with TJ Nobles to provide Missouri’s first hybrid MMA/professional boxing event!!

On Saturday night July 23rd, popular Cruiserweight B.J. Flores will return to his childhood home to take on tough Nick Iannuzzi for the Interim NABO and the NABA championship that will headline a hybrid card that will feature four Boxing and seven MMA bouts at the O’Reiley Center.

The shoe is promoted by Joe Kelly’s Titan Entertainment and Wes Slay Productions.

Flores, who now resides in Las Vegas has a record of 24-1-1 with fifteen wins coming by knockout will be making his fourth appearance in Springfield and first start since 2007 in his childhood home.

Iannuzzi of Tampa, Florida has a record of 16-2 with nine knockouts.

“I love fighting here and know this is the place where my roots were planted so its always exciting to come back here”, said Flores.

“"I am very much looking forward to getting back in the ring in front of my hometown Fans. This will be an exciting event with all the area’s best MMA fighters and 4 professional boxing matches! We are determined to bring a VERY high Quality show to Springfield Missouri."

“I have been STARVING to get back into the ring! Been training like a DOG! My last fight has simply made me more hungry and determined. I can’t wait to face another hi level opponent in this tyype of make or break fight. The winner of this fight takes a GIANT step forward and the Loser takes a GIANT step backwards!! "

In that last fight, Flores traveled across the globe only to put up a valiant effort in suffering his first professional loss to local icon Danny Green in Australia.

"The truth of the matter is, I have been waiting to get back into the ring because we were supposed to fight again in Australia and I had received countless emails and calls from them telling me of their desire to have me DOWN UNDER after the close fight with Danny Green. The people saw what they saw and for that reason Angelo Hyder and Danny wanted me back. It wasn’t until about 1 and half months ago that we found out they were moving in another direction. So I am now moving forward"

" I have a lot to learn and will be much better with keeping an active schedule and that is exactly what I plan to do. We have a great following in Missouri and I plan on fighting here every 3 months to keep me sharp and keep moving towards another title shot. Before my last fight I was off almost 16 months and you can never be at your best under those conditions. I will NOT let that happen again"!

“Nick Iannuzzi provides a great challenge. We had offered this fight to 8 different guys rated in the top ten in the US and ALL of them had turned it down except IANUZZI. This guy is coming off a very controversially loss to WBO #3 WBA #3 WBC #4 Lateef Kayode. Everyone saw the fight that night and EVERYONE except the three judges thought Iannuzzi had done enough to win the fight. He is tough and gritty and I thought he performed very well on SHOWTIME. Immediately after the fight I did a press release calling out L Kayode. However his camp responded by simply saying I am a racist and blah blah blah. Listen, I all want to do is fight! I don’t care where Lateef is from!! However, I will now look to the next best thing. Fighting the guy who all the SHOWTIME announcers had winning the fight. Nick Iannuzzi. I am looking forward to fighting for the NABO interim and NABA titles and gaining a rating with the WBO and WBA by facing a tough opponent. This fight will put me right back into position to fight another BIG fight! I am very UP for the challenge and looking forward to getting one step closer to another title shot"!

Flores is currently ranked #13 by the WBO and is a former NABA Super Cruiserweight; WBF Super Cruiserweight; USBA and NABO Cruiserweight champion

BJ FLORES SETS THE RECORD STRAIGHT ABOUT GODFREY "OFFER"

PHOENIX, AZ- World ranked and undefeated cruiserweight BJ Flores wanted to set the record straight regarding media reports that he rejected an “offer” to fight CES promoted Matt Godfrey next month on ESPN2.

Speaking following a training session with former heavyweight world champion Hasim Rahman in Phoenix, Arizona, Flores said, “Let me set the record straight. CES has Aaron Williams and Matt Godfrey. Williams had wanted to fight me after my win over Darnell Wilson in February. I was fine with that at the time, but I was okay with waiting until after his fight with Jose Luis Herrera.”

“Williams got knocked out by Herrera so we said let’s fight Herrera. We went back and for with Jimmy Burchfield from CES for a while about terms. I don’t think CES wanted us to fight Herrera and we get asked if we’re interested in fighting Godfrey. No date, no money offer, no location. Just if we’re interested.

“We needed to know much more about the deal, especially the money, date, network and location. And that’s what we asked for and they never provided that specific information let alone showed us a contract. A request for more information does not constitute a rejection.”

“The bottom line is that Matt’s a gent; he was down here in Phoenix with me training with Hasim. We get along fine but I don’t think he wants to fight me for short end money, like $15,000, on ESPN, when the fight is worth much more. Nothing against ESPN, they’ve been great to me, but the purses should be bigger for us to fight, especially if I have to go to CES’s backyard to do it.”

"We’ve both worked hard in our careers to get to this point; this would be a SHOBOX or HBO Boxing After Dark type bout. It’s perfect for them and in keeping with what they’re trying to. Bottom line is make us a true offer and we’ll make a decision. If I had no fear of the biggest puncher in the division, I have no fear of anyone else."

Said longtime manager of Flores, Lou Mesorano, “All due respect to Jimmy Burchfield, this fight doesn’t make sense for ESPN money. It’s worth much more than that. We’re willing to fight anyone and proved that in our last bout with Wilson.”

“These are the two best American cruisers. This is the pros, not the amateurs.”

Flores, 21-0-1 (13KO’s) is currently ranked # 2 by the IBF, # 5 by the WBO and # 8 by the WBA.

Flores rejects CES offer to fight Godfrey on ESPN show

PROVIDENCE– Classic Entertainment & Sports, Inc. (CES) president Jimmy Burchfield has expressed his disappointed that USBA cruiserweight champion BJ Flores (21-0-1, 12 KOs) has rejected an offer to fight NABF cruiserweight title-holder Matt “Too Smooth” Godfrey (16-1, 9 KOs) in an ESPN2 main event next month.

Flores is rated No. 2 by the IBF, as well as No. 7 and No. 8, respectively, by the WBO and WBA. Godfrey, ranked No. 5 by the WBC, was dropped from the WBA and IBF rankings when he fought Rudy Kraj (LDEC12) this past February in an WBC title eliminator.

The cruiserweight division has been left wide open with David Haye’s recent move up to the heavyweight ranks. Flores and Godfrey are two of the top American cruiserweights in a division now primarily ruled by Europeans, excluding IBF title-holder Steve Cunningham.

“Flores and his people refused the challenge to fight Godfrey on ESPN2,” Burchfield said. “They’ve been shooting their mouths off in the media about wanting to fight a top cruiserweight, but they claim that there isn’t enough money in a fight against Godfrey, that it belongs on HBO or Showtime. Well, HBO and Showtime aren’t interested in that fight. Flores hasn’t had a fight since he beat Darnell Wilson (WDEC12) last December on ESPN2. I think they’re being shortsighted. The winner of a fight between BJ and Matt would be the top American challenger at 200-pounds and then HBO and Showtime would have to be interested. Both BJ and Matt need a big win to get to that level.

“Look, BJ, I can have a contract to you within 24 hours. You’ve talked a lot, now it’s time to put your name on the dotted line. It was time to put up or shut up and I guess BJ shut up. Reconsider and take the fight. This is the second time I’ve offered you a fight against Godfrey.

The last time you were promoted by Silverhawk and I don’t know if you ever knew about it. You do now. We believe Matt Godfrey is the top American cruiserweight contender. Here’s you’re opportunity to prove you’re the real No. 1.”

Undefeated cruiserweight contender BJ Flores continues to expand his business interests beyond boxing and real estate in the Phoenix area

PHOENIX, AZ- Undefeated cruiserweight contender BJ Flores continues to expand his business interests beyond boxing and real estate in the Phoenix area, as he has taken on the role of advisor for explosive cruiserweight prospect Erick “Dynamite” Vega.

Said Flores, “Erick is a terrific kid who came to boxing late but has an outstanding upside. He’s been one of my training partners over the last couple of years and I want to help him out with his career as he moves up.”

The 29 year old Vega is coming off a devastating “revenge” second round knockout of JJ McAllister on May 8th at the Biltmore Resort in Phoenix. McAllister had previously knocked out Vega in their first fight. The McAllister KO and other carnage by Vega can be viewed at his website, www.dynamitehands.com

Continued Flores, ‘The McAllister win meant to much to Erick as he had lost to him earlier. This was his fourth knockout win this year and he’s looking to stay very busy in 2008.”

Vega starting boxing as an amateur in 2001 and after sixty amateur bouts was chosen to represent Mexico at the 2004 Olympic Qualifiers held in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, losing in the quarterfinals. He was also a semi-finalist in the 2002 National Golden Gloves.

The 29 year old Vega currently sports a professional record of 8-2-1 with six knockouts.

Flores, 21-0 (13KO’s) recently finished up a training camp with Kenny Adams in Las Vegas and is looking to make an announcement on his next fight in the coming weeks. He is currently worked ranked # 2 by the IBF, #7 by the WBO and # 8 by the WBA.

BJ FLORES WANTS JOSE LUIS HERRERA‏

(From February 8th UD12 Darnell Wilson.)

PHOENIX, AZ- Undefeated cruiserweight contender BJ Flores watched intently this past Friday night as prospect Aaron Williams battled Columbian veteran Jose Luis Herrera on ESPN2 in the main event from the Twin Rivers Events Center in Lincoln, Rhode Island.

Speaking after a Sunday morning training run in Phoenix, Arizona, Flores stated; “It was an outstanding win for Herrera and I congratulate him. He stayed in the fight after he was hurt by Williams in the first and was able to earn a terrific victory.

I was mostly watching to see Aaron Williams fight. His side had called me out earlier this year after their win over Andre Purlette and I hadn’t seen him fight past the two rounds."

Continued Flores, “Aaron had him out in the first round and really should have finished him in the last twenty seconds but he seemed to back off. He’s only 22 but his inexperience really showed in this fight. He can definitely come back but it’s important not to get ahead of yourself in this game.

He needs to realize that early knockouts are not always going to come and there will be times when you’ll have to box your way to a decision. In boxing things can always change quickly in the ring."

In regards to Herrera, Flores said, “I’d love to fight him; it’s a great ESPN2 level fight for the summer. With us both coming off big wins (Flores beat Darnell Wilson by unanimous decision on February 8th on ESPN2) it’s a natural for us to get in the ring together and fight for my USBA title."

The cruiserweight division is heating up, Herrera is now a new player and the fans would see a terrific fight between the two of us. I guarantee his record of never seeing the “finish line” would continue.”

BJ Flores, 21-0-1 (13KO's) is currently worked ranked # 2 by the IBF, #7 by the WBO and # 8 by the WBA.

BJ Flores was in Ft. Hood, Texas, this past weekend taking part in a celebration for his longtime trainer Kenny Adams

PHOENIX, AZ— World ranked and undefeated cruiserweight BJ Flores was in Ft. Hood, Texas, this past weekend taking part in a celebration for his longtime trainer Kenny Adams.

Said Flores, “It was terrific, we had a nice party for Kenny at the Officer Headquarters on the army base. Many officers from the military and a lot of his former fighters were there including former bantamweight world champion Eddie Cook as well as former amateur standouts (1988 US Gold Medalist) Andrew Maynard, Brian Lonon, Loren Ross and Ronnie Hughes.

Everyone had a turn to speak and reminisce a little about how much Kenny meant to each one of us and how important his teachings were in making us successful as fighters and as men.”

Continued Flores, “Kenny was my first coach when I was very young, my Dad competed on the Ft. Hood army team starting in 1983 and my brother Jeremy and I started going to the gym. Kenny let me ride on the team bus to other army bases for team meets.

My Dad was my amateur coach (record of 110-9), but when I turned pro Kenny became my head trainer and he’s been with me for my most recent success including my win over Darnell Wilson. Dad and he work great together, for the Wilson fight Dad came to Vegas for two weeks to work with me also. They make a fantastic team.”

On Saturday morning, prior to the celebration, BJ spoke to and gave a boxing demonstration for the teenagers in a youth boxing program at Ronnie Hughes' gym in Killeen, Texas.

“It’s always nice to give back and they also had a lot of questions about professional boxing. Some of them had seen my fight against Wilson on ESPN and they wanted to know more about my career. My focus to them was to get a solid amateur background and be disciplined in your training. Those were the keys to my success.”

In closing, Flores currently 21-0-1 with thirteen knockouts said, “It was a terrific trip, a pleasure to honor Kenny and visit with many of the guys and also great to spend time with the kids at Ronnie’s gym. Kenny’s trained 14 world champions; I’m looking to be his 15th.”

Flores is currently world ranked #2 by the IBF, #7 by the WBO and # 9 by the WBO.

BJ FLORES SPEAKS ON THE STATE OF THE CRUISERWEIGHTS‏

PHOENIX, AZ- After an exciting weekend in Las Vegas taking in the Bernard Hopkins/Joe Calzaghe Light Heavyweight Title bout, undefeated and world ranked cruiserweight BJ Flores spoke about this past weekend’s IBF Title Elimination bout between Tomasz Adamek and O’Neil Bell which took place in Katowice, Poland.

“The ending was very surprising to me, I was shocked that Bell seemingly quit after the seventh round in such an important fight. He’s shown such terrific fortitude in previous world title bouts against Sebastiaan Rothmann and Jean Marc Mormeck that it’s strange he would stop fighting.

On the part of Adamek this was a terrific win. It’s very impressive that he could come up almost 25 pounds from light heavy to cruiserweight and be successful on a world class scale. He looked fast at the higher weight and fought very intelligently against Bell."

About the upcoming fight between Adamek and IBF title holder Steve Cunningham, Flores stated, “It should be an outstanding fight. Both have fast hands and are very smart fighters, particularly their use of combinations. They’re both always in great shape. Hopefully even if the fight is in Poland, it will be broadcast in the US as fight fans will see a terrific bout.”

In regards to his immediate plans, Flores said, “I’m excited to get back in the ring and we should have an announcement in the very near future.”

BJ Flores, 21-0-1 with thirteen knockouts, is currently world ranked #2 by the IBF, #7 by the WBO and #9 by the WBA.
