TYSON JEFFRIES VS. ARTHUR GUSEINOV OFFICIAL FOR M-1 CHALLENGE: BENNETT VS GARNER - LIVE ON SHOWTIME(R)‏

M-1 GLOBAL announces the addition of 2010 M-1 Selection Americas middleweight tournament winner Tyson ‘The Anti-Hero’ Jeffries (7-5) versus feared Russian striker Arthur Guseinov (7-2) at the mixed martial arts (MMA) event titled M-1 Challenge: Bennett vs. Garner. The bouts from The Hangar in Costa Mesa, California will air LIVE on SHOWTIME on Friday, July 8 at 11 p.m. ET/PT (Delayed on the West Coast).

The July 8th event is headlined with the rematch between the 2010 M-1 Selection Americas Tournament heavyweight finalists Pat Bennett (4-2) and Kenny ‘Deuce’ Garner (6-3).

“Tyson Jeffries is a fighter with incredible heart and a determination to consistently improve his game; he adds depth and excitement to every card and he’s a welcome addition on M-1’s second televised event on SHOWTIME,” said M-1 Global Director of Operations Evgeni Kogan. “The European fighters who participated in the March card set an extremely high bar this time out. Guseinov has been very vocal about making this an entertaining battle.”

Tyson Jeffries: Eager for SHOWTIME’s Familiar Spotlights

After enduring a round-and-a-half of pure punishment from newly crowned Middleweight Champion Magomed Sultanakhmedov, Oregon native and Team Quest fighter Tyson ‘The Anti-Hero’ Jeffries has done all he can to prepare himself this time out. When the bell rings to start the action from The Hangar in Costa Mesa, California, Jeffries will look to draw first blood against feared Russian striker Arthur Guseinov.

Coming from a team known for producing impeccable fighters with sound wrestling foundations, Coach Matt Lindland has placed high expectations on his protégé to execute hard-fought, exciting tilts. As a Sport Fight veteran, Jeffries has built a 7-5 record and possesses the qualities and skills necessary to be a successful professional fighter; being exposed to the Team Quest mentality is certainly aiding his development, “I train with the some of the best fighters in the world ... I owe lots of appreciation to my coaches and friends,” says Jeffries.

Known for his relentless, never-say-die fighting style, Jeffries is a fighter that simply doesn’t quit; he would rather have his arm broken than to ever admit an opponent has broken his will. Although putting forth a valiant effort against Sultanakhmedov, the sturdy American scrapper is covering all bases to ensure he stands with his arm raised on July 8th, calling in some favours to train with Rampage in Las Vegas and at the Wolfslair MMA Academy in England.

2010 was an exceptional year for Jeffries, winning the M-1 Selections Americas tournament middleweight brackets with a solid combination of submission skills and striking abilities. Facing Mike Johnson in his opening round bout, Jeffries systematically dismantled Johnson’s striking with a steadfast defense and effective counter-punching.

Facing the wild striking of Plinio Cruz in his semi-finals bout, Jeffries maintained an impenetrable defesce as he stalked and cut off Cruz’s position inside the ring. Although standing within Cruz’s striking range on occasion which allowed Cruz to score much needed points, Jeffries was able to withstand the barrages and go on to win a razor-thin split decision and berth in the Finals.

Watching Jeffries from the beginning of the tournament, it is easy to conclude that his Finals bout was where he matured as a fighter. The middleweight finals battle with Team Bombsquad’s Mike Geurin took the night’s ‘fight of the night’ honours, is regarded as the highlight bout of the tournament and is also cemented as M-1 Global’s #3 fight of 2010. When Jeffries’ miraculous triangle is tied into the equation, it’s no wonder why this fight also captured the night’s ‘submission of the night’ award as well. Jeffries vs. Geurin exemplified the exciting MMA action that the M-1 Selection tournament was designed to produce.

Jeffries is a patient fighter capable of sitting back and effectively countering while always maintaining an offensive ring position to compliment his takedown threat; he also exhibits a veteran’s composure when timing his opponent’s offensives allowing him to set up his magnificent overhand right. Adding to his versatility, Jeffries is comfortable fighting off his back and has a repertoire of submissions as evident by the elbow-snapping armbar which he transitioned into the bout-ending triangle, a truly miraculous, 11th hour, highlight reel finish.

In the fight game, you’re only as good as your last trip to the mat and Jeffries needs a win to rebound off the one-sided beating issued by Sultanakhmedov, marking this fight as a turning point for Jeffries’ career; kicking off a string of wins will reposition him in the queue for another future title shot while a loss marks him as a +500 journeyman fighter to be used as a stepping stone for other rising prospects.

The event, which takes place at Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif. on Saturday, January 24, features a dream match-up between World Alliance of Mixed Martial Arts Heavyweight Champion, Fedor "The Last Emperor" Emelianenko and top-ranked heavyweight contender Andrei "The Pitbull" Arlovski. The two adversaries will be battling it out in hand-to-hand combat for the WAMMA championship belt and to prove who will be recognized as the dominant heavyweight mixed martial artist of the world.

Fedor "The Last Emperor" Emelianenko

Ticket prices range from $50-$450 and can be purchased starting Wednesday through Ticketmaster (all Ticketmaster outlets, by phone at 714-740-2000 or online at www.ticketmaster.com) and starting Thursday, November 20, at Honda Center Box Office (714-704-2500).

Affliction's "Day of Reckoning", the most talked about event in MMA today, is brought to you by Affliction Entertainment, along with its partners, the Trump Organization, Golden Boy Promotions, and M-1 Global, and is scheduled to include 11 bouts of fierce, full-throttle battle. In addition to the main event featuring Fedor vs. Arlovski, other top-ranked MMA competitors will appear on this extraordinary fight card including: Josh Barnett, Renato "Babalu" Sobral, Vitor Belfort and Matt Lindland. Much to the satisfaction of anxious bloggers and fans alike, the complete fight card will be announced shortly.

Widely considered the greatest heavyweight mixed martial artist in the history of the sport, reigning champion Fedor Emelianenko (28-1, 6KOs, 15 Submissions) is seemingly invincible with two victories over the current UFC Heavyweight Champion Antonio Rodrigo "Minotauro" Noguiera. This imposing athlete consistently dominates his opponents, utilizing his astounding strength, technique, and strategy to his advantage. This is only the third time US-based MMA fans have had the opportunity to see this international champion compete live and in-person on U.S. soil. At "Affliction Banned" in July, Fedor quickly demolished former heavyweight champ Tim Sylvia in just 36 seconds. With hisforceful takedowns and ground control skills, Fedor is the most devastating fighter on the MMA landscape today. He'll have an opportunity to prove this yet once again!

Andrei Arlovski (14-5, 8KOs, 3 Submissions) is considered one of the top-ranked heavyweights in the sport today and one of the most, well-rounded MMA competitors in the world. He is also quickly becoming one of the most dangerous strikers in the sport, as evidenced by his recent knockout victories over Ben Rothwell at "Affliction Banned" and Roy Nelson in EliteXC's Heat. A hard-hitting and fast-moving fighter, Arlovski has incredible mobility and striking power. Against the savage force of the Last Emperor, Arlovski will look to dethrone Fedor, and make this match-up one of the most exciting and stylistically impressive fights in MMA history.

Lindland Lays Down The Law In And Out Of The Ring Oregon Politician & World-Class MMA fighter

SIGNAL HILL, California– 2000 U.S. Olympic Silver Medal Wrestler, Matt “The Law” Lindland would bring the same dogged determination that made him one of the world’s top professional mixed-martial-artists to a job in the Oregon House of Representatives.

The 38-year-old resident of Oregon City may be near the end of his fighting career, but his political life is just beginning. Recently winning the Republican nomination for House District 52 in Oregon, Lindland received 58-percent of the votes in the primary and has begun his campaign for the general election in the fall.

Oregon suffers from some of the worst unemployment rates in the country, and Lindland believes there’s a solution—if the state became competitive in the global marketplace, jobs would open in the private sector and the quality of life would improve for his prospective constituents. When it comes to building a world-class school system, the would-be Representative believes in shifting power from the bureaucracy to the teachers, parents and principals. Other key issues for him include changing land laws to make them fair to property owners, discontinuing government regulation of property values, and opposing tax increases. Lindland offers an alternative to the Democrats’ planned tax hikes, which he feels would be dangerous to an already shaky economy. Instead, he proposes that if tax revenues continue to decline, state government should spend less and not raise taxes for families already suffering from the present recession.

The Oregonian endorsed Lindland’s candidacy:
Lindland, who is making his first run for public office, is a conservative who thinks state government takes too much out of the pockets of families and generally interferes too much in their lives. After a slow start to his campaign, he has shown signs of the resolve and discipline that made him a medal-winning amateur wrestler. (Phyllis) Thiemann, while very pleasant and interested in some district issues, makes a less compelling argument for her election. We think district Republicans will be hungry for Lindland’s gift.

Lindland has been a fighter all of his life. In fact, he earned his nickname, “The Law,” in an unusual way. He lost the championship final of the U.S. Olympic Wrestling Team Trials to Keith Sieracki, who, according to Lindland, tripped him. Lindland appealed, based on rules prohibiting Greco-Roman wrestlers from using their legs for advantage and/or defensive/offensive moves. An arbitrator ordered a rematch and Lindland won. The U.S. Olympic Committee appealed in federal court to keep Sieracki on the team. A three-judge panel and federal district judge all decided in Lindland’s favor. A USOC request in the U.S. Supreme Court was denied. Lindland joined Team USA, captured an Olympic silver medal, and later took the nickname, “The Law.”

Lindland, who has won 20 of his 25 pro MMA fights, is matched against Fabio “Negao” Nascimento in one of five MMA bouts on “Affliction Banned,” July 19 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California. This event is headlined by the much-anticipated return of Russian heavyweight superstar and former undisputed PRIDE® champion Fedor “The Last Emperor” Emelianenko (27-1) in association with M-1, against former 2-time UFC® heavyweight title-holder Tim “The Maine-iac” Sylvia (24-4).

“I’m so excited to be part of this show,” Lindland said. “I’m excited to be back in the gym and honored to be part of this great card. I love fighting in this arena more than in politics because I know my opponent in the ring. I look him right in the eyes.”

The superstar-studded “Affliction Banned” card is so stacked with talent that it had to be separated into two live shows produced for broadcast. The night’s activities will kick off with a one-hour, free live telecast on FSN (Fox Sports Net) starting at 5 PM Pacific (8 PM/ET), dubbed “Affliction Live,” featuring the highly anticipated US debut of Fedor’s brother, Russian heavyweight Aleksander Emelianenko (13-3), against tough Texan brawler Paul “The Headhunter” Buentello (23-10), of Amarillo, and Brazilian strongman, Antonio Rogerio “Minotoro” Nogueira (13-3) versus veteran Vernon “Tiger” White (26-32-2).

“Affliction Banned” will be distributed on Pay-Per-View and air live (9 PM/ET, 6 PM/PT) on cable and satellite viewing in the USA and Canada via iN DEMAND, TVN, Shaw Communications, Viewers Choice Canada, DirecTV, DISH Network, Bell ExpressVue and Star Choice for a suggested retail price of $39.95. The telecast will be available in both standard and high definition television.

Tickets for “Affliction Banned,” range between $50.00 and $1,000.00, and are on sale at the Honda Center Box Office and online at Ticketmaster.com.

PRESS CONFERENCE FIGHTER QUOTES

Fedor Emelianenko: “I want to thank Affliction for giving me this opportunity to fight the strongest athletes in the world. My respect to Tim. I’m sure you’ll all love the show on July 19th.”

Fedor Emelianenko and Tim Sylvia

Tim “The Maine-iac” Sylvia: “July 19th is going to be a great show. I’m fortunate that Affliction got me on this card. A lot of people have been after Fedor and I got him. He’s a great athlete and fighter deserving of everything he’s received. I’ve been known to throw a money wrench into the worlds and I plan on doing it again. The whole card is stacked and that’s what fans want. Tune in July 19th for an awesome show in Anaheim. I’m no sacrificial lamb. A lot of guys won’t fight Fedor but I will. He’s been like a myth. This will be only his second fight in the United States. If I do my best I believe I’ll be victorious. He’s 6-feet, I’m 6-8, so I want to fight standing up.”

Josh “The Baby Faced Assassin” Barnett: “It’s nice to have a press conference like this. I just got off a plane from Japan (where he won a fight). I’d like to stress that this event crosses over to all sports and entertainment, not only the MMA community. You can have all of the fireworks but it’s up to us (fighters) to make the biggest bang. We will be spending a lot of time in the gym to give everybody everything they want. It’s not enough to just have a fight. We want to give fans an event that they’ll talk about for a long time.

“You play football. You play basketball. You don’t play fighting. Playing isn’t involved in this sport. We take it to the extreme – the people out there believe a kick in the head, or a punch in the eye, is extreme – but we get to know who we really are and see true characters even in this violent sport. I love Pedro; he’s a wonderful guy. I love him so much I’m going to hug him to death on July 19th.”

Pedro Rizzo and Josh Barnett

Pedro “The Rock” Rizzo: “Affliction has put together a great card. It’s going to be the best of the year, maybe ever, on July 19th.”

Mike Whitehead: “I want to thank Tom and Todd (Affliction) for giving me this opportunity. Fans who’ve followed me throughout my career know that I’ve always wanted to get into a fight like this against a tough guy like ‘Babalu.’ The best way to show respect is to be the best we can be for fans who will be there or watching on pay-per-view. I’m meeting ‘Babalu’ and when we get in there it’s going to be like cartoons – dusts and fist flying and we’ll see what happens when the dust settles.”

Mike Whitehead and Renato Sobral

Renato “Babalu” Sobral: “I’m very proud to be here with all of these stars. My opponent is a very tough guy. This
show is going to sellout in my backyard, Orange County.”

Matt “The Law” Lindland: “I’m so excited to be part of this show. I’m excited to get back in the gym. It’s been since April against since I fought this guy (Fedor). I don’t know why I moved up to two divisions to fight him. I’m honored to be part of this great card. I love fighting in this arena more than in politics (last Tuesday Matt won the Republican nomination for House District 52 in Oregon). I know who my opponent is in the ring. I look him right in the eyes.”

Matt Lindland

Fabio “Negao” Nascimento: “I’m happy to be part of this great event. It’s going to be a great honor
fighting the caliber of fighter like Matt Lindland. It’s a great honor to fight for all of you guys.”

“Big” Ben Rothwell: “It’s an epic card. I’m honored to be on it and up here with all of these great fighters. Affliction has stepped up to give fans what they deserve. July 19th is going to be one helluva show.”

“THE LAW” AND ORDER: LINDLAND SEEKS OREGON STATEHOUSE SEAT MMA Star, Team Quest Coach Running for State Representative in House District 52

NEW YORK and PORTLAND, Ore.,– Mixed martial arts star and Olympic silver medalist Matt “The Law” Lindland has launched a campaign for the vacated Oregon State Representative seat in District 52 in the upcoming election. Lindland, 37, a silver medalist in wrestling at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia, and again at the 2001 World Championships, owns the Team Quest Training Center in Portland and is the coach of the camp’s International Fight League entry. Lindland says that like many small business owners in Oregon, he felt the crunch of a struggling local economy that he felt was only being worsened by the state’s political leadership, and decided to try to make a difference in his first foray into politics. “For years the solution has been to raise taxes,” says Lindland, who will run as a Republican candidate. “That doesn’t promote growth from businesses. It doesn’t encourage businesses to bring jobs here. We should be seeing Oregon businesses expand and hire more people, but we aren’t, and that’s because of the burden placed on business owners. “I have been blessed with much success in my athletic career and have done well in business,” he added. “However, the blessings I have enjoyed have come largely as a result of hard work, dedication, and discipline. I have always believed that if a man or woman works hard and works smart, and if government does not get in the way too much, then there is no limit to your potential success.” Before the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Lindland filed and won a lawsuit to ensure that his spot on the U.S. Wrestling team wasn’t unfairly given away due to a scoring error.
