ROBINSON "ROBIN HOOD" CASTELLANOS VS. DERRICK WILSON & VICENTE ESCOBEDO VS. FERNANDO CARCAMO TO HEADLINE TELEVISA / FOX DEPORTES DOUBLEHEADER THIS SATURDAY IN MEXICO‏

ROBINSON "ROBIN HOOD" CASTELLANOS VS. DERRICK WILSON TO HEADLINE TELEVISA / FOX DEPORTES DOUBLEHEADER
THIS SATURDAY IN MEXIC
WBC SILVER TITLE BOUT TO BE SUPPORTED BY
THE RETURN OF VICENTE ESCOBEDO VS. FERNANDO CARCAMO
Owner of the most deceptive record in boxing today, Guanajuato's Robinson Castellanos will defend his WBC Silver Featherweight Championship against the United States' Derrick Wilson in the 12-round main event of this Saturday's Televisa/FOX Deportes event at the Oasis Arena in Cancun, Quintana Roo, Mexico.
In the co-main event, scheduled for 10-rounds in the lightweight division, longtime contender and 2004 United States Olympian Vicente Escobedo squares off against Ciudad Obregon's Fernando Carcamo.
Castellanos vs. Wilson, a 12-round bout for Castellanos' WBC Silver Featherweight Championship, is presented by Golden Boy Promotions and Cancun Boxing de Pepe Gomez and sponsored by Corona, Periodico QueQui and Quintana Roo Tourism. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. CT and the first fight begins at 6:30 p.m. CT. The Televisa broadcast will air on Canal 5 beginning at 8:30 p.m. CT in Mexico and the FOX Deportes broadcast will air live at 10:00 p.m. ET/7:00 p.m. PT in the United States.
A quick glance at the 18-9 (11 KO's) record of Guanajuato featherweight Robinson Castellanos, and you may wonder how the 31-year-old has made it to the elite level of the 126-pound weight class. But consider that after an 8-9 start to his career from 2002 to 2010, a string that included four split decision defeats, Castellanos turned everything around, winning 10 straight bouts. Among his victories are eight wins in WBC Silver title fights and an April 2013 victory over former world champion Celestino Caballero.
Another fighter whose skills show more than his won-loss record is Fort Myers, Florida'sDerrick Wilson (10-4-2, 3 KO's), a 24-year-old young man who has been battling it out with fellow prospects for much of his nearly six year pro career. In June, Wilson snapped a two fight losing streak with the biggest win yet, as he handed rising star Braulio Santos his first pro loss. Now it's Wilson's turn to get a big fight in Mexico against Castellanos and he's ready to make the most of this opportunity.
Returning to fight in Mexico for the first time since his third round technical knockout of Carlos Urias in March of 2010, Woodland, California's Vicente Escobedo (26-5, 15 KO's) is looking forward to making a return to the win column after tough defeats against Adrien Broner and Edner Cherry. Still young in the sport at 31, the former U.S. Olympian is hungry for victory and he has the skill and determination to get the job done.
In search of a career-defining win that will extend his current three fight winning streak and put his name on the world boxing map, 22-year-old Fernando Carcamo (13-5, 10 KO's) already made plenty of noise with his second round stoppage of then-unbeaten Fidel Maldonado Jr. in April of 2012. Now he wants to add another notable name to his record in the form of longtime contender Escobedo.

SHOWTIME SPORTS® TO PREMIERE FLOYD “MONEY” MAYWEATHER VS. CANELO ALVAREZ & DANNY “SWIFT” GARCIA VS. LUCAS “THE MACHINE” MATTHYSSE THIS SATURDAY, SEPT. 21 Plus, ALL ACCESS: Mayweather vs. Canelo Concludes With Epilogue Taking Viewers Behind The Scenes on Fight Night Premieres Wednesday, Sept. 25 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on SHOWTIME

SHOWTIME Sports will air Floyd Mayweather’s “masterful” (Associated Press) performance against Canelo Alvarez and Danny Garcia’s “scintillating” (Wall Street Journal) victory over Lucas Matthysse this Saturday on SHOWTIME (9 p.m. ET/PT, delayed on the West Coast) as a replay of the blockbuster Sept. 14 PPV event titled “THE ONE: Mayweather vs. Canelo.”
The television premiere of “THE ONE” will be preceded and immediately followed by the SHOWTIME Sports documentary film “LT: The Life & Times”,the first ever feature length film about the incredibly dramatic life of NFL Hall of Famer and legendary linebacker Lawrence Taylor (premieres this Friday, Sept. 20 at 8p ET/PT on SHOWTIME).
The dramatic moments surrounding the historic event will be chronicled in ALL ACCESS: Mayweather vs. Canelo Epilogue premiering next Wednesday, Sept. 25 at 10 p.m. ET/PT (delayed on the West Coast).  The epilogue will spotlight the intensity of fight week, taking viewers inside the ropes on fight night and into the rarely seen, uncelebrated aftermath of world championship boxing.
Mayweather, the undisputed, pound-for-pound king, put on a clinic against Mexican sensation Canelo, handing the 23-year-old superstar his first loss in front of a largely pro-Canelo crowd at the sold out MGM Grand Garden Arena.
Canelo couldn’t solve the puzzle of the 36-year-old Floyd Mayweather, who showcased his signature speed and elusiveness en route to a questionable majority decision.  For the night’s work, Mayweather collected a guaranteed $41.5 million and Canelo’s WBC, WBA and Ring Magazine Super Welterweight Championships.
In the event’s co-feature, Garcia knocked down feared power-puncher Matthysse for the first time in his career and retained the unified super lightweight world title in an impressive performance against his favored opponent.
Matthysse entered the fight having knocked out five of his last six opponents but his power wasn’t apparent against Garcia, who executed a solid game plan in the unanimous decision victory.

JERMELL "IRON MAN" CHARLO READY FOR ACTION ON GOLDEN BOY LIVE! AGAINST JOSE ANGEL "SILVER BOY" RODRIGUEZ BATTLE AIRS LIVE ON FOX SPORTS 1 AND FOX DEPORTES OCT. 14 FROM THE BB&T CENTER IN SUNRISE, FLORIDA SPECIAL GUEST, FORMER WORLD CHAMPION, ROY JONES, JR. WILL MAKE AN APPEARANCE

Golden Boy Promotions returns to the BB&T Center in Sunrise, Florida on Monday, Oct.14, for the latest edition of Golden Boy Live! on FOX Sports 1 and FOX Deportes featuring unbeaten junior middleweight Jermell "Iron Man" Charlo against New York City southpaw Jose Angel "Silver Boy" Rodriguez.
The event will also feature a special guest appearance by boxing superstar and former World Champion Roy Jones Jr.
"Rodriguez is a tough veteran who has definitely fought quality opposition," said Charlo. "It's my job to make him look like an amateur and get him out of there. That's what I plan on doing on October 14."
"This is a great opportunity and I thank Golden Boy Promotions and FOX Sports 1 for making this happen," said Rodriguez. "Now it's up to me to get the job done and I'm more confident than ever that my hand will be raised."
"We are very much looking forward to bringing the Golden Boy Live! series to the BB&T Center," said Richard Schaefer, CEO of Golden Boy Promotions. "One of the best parts of consistently hosting this Monday night fight series, is the opportunity to showcase up and coming fighters in different cities so that fight fans across the country have the chance to see great fights live."
Charlo vs. Rodriguez, a 10-round junior middleweight bout, is presented by Golden Boy Promotions and Sunrise Sports & Entertainment and sponsored by Corona and O'Reilly Auto Parts. The BB&T Center doors open at 7:00 p.m. ET and the first bell rings at 8:00 p.m. ET. The FOX Sports 1 and FOX Deportes bi-lingual simulcast will air live at 9:00 p.m. ET/6:00 p.m. PT. Additional televised undercard bouts will be announced shortly.
Houston's Jermell Charlo (21-0, 10 KO's) has stepped up big time in 2013, winning both the WBC Continental Americas and USBA Junior Middleweight Titles with his victories over Harry Joe Yorgey and Demetrius Hopkins, respectively. Now hoping to keep his unbeaten run intact when he battles the upset-minded Rodriguez, the 23-year-old "Iron Man" promises a performance to remember when he competes in front of the nation on FOX Sports 1 and FOX Deportes.
A versatile veteran who has won five of his last six bouts, 34-year-old Jose Angel Rodriguez(17-2-1, 2 KO's) is coming off of back-to-back victories over Russell Jordan and Denis Douglin that have him in fine stead heading into the biggest fight of his career against Charlo on Oct. 14. And given his southpaw style and experience, "Silver Boy" can certainly make it a tough night for the hot prospect in Florida.

Mauricio Herrera vs. Miguel Angel Huerta Veteran Jr. Welterweights Meet in "Path to Glory" Friday, Sept. 27, 2013 Doubletree Hotel, Ontario, CA

Thompson Boxing Promotions returns to the Doubletree Hotel in Ontario, Calif. with a loaded "Path to Glory" card headlined by junior welterweights Mauricio Herrera (19-3, 7 KOs) of Riverside, Calif. and former title holder Miguel Angel Huerta (27-10-1, 18 KOs) of Mexico City, Mexico. The bout is scheduled for 8-rounds and is set at a catch weight of 142 pounds.

The younger Herrera will be tested against the veteran Huerta, 34, a southpaw who has developed a reputation as a powerful body puncher. Although, he has been inactive for several years due to managerial issues, Huerta insists he is in top shape for his fight against Herrera.

"I've been boxing for most of my life so I'm not worried about any ring rust that may have developed," Huerta said. "I am preparing myself for a hard battle and I'm ready to win."

Herrera, meanwhile, sparred with some of the sport's biggest names in preparation for this fight. Among them, Argentine Lucas Matthysse, widely considered the top junior welterweight in the world, and former Thompson Boxing Promotions boxer and current WBO welterweight champion Timothy Bradley, also considered one of the best in his division. Herrera says the high-level sparring has conditioned him for the hard-hitting Huerta.

"It was a great experience and education sparring with Matthysse and Bradley," Herrera said. "As a competitor, any time you get a chance to go against the best you take it. They're both crafty and naturally strong so it was perfect competition for my upcoming fight against Huerta."

In addition to improving his stamina and punching consistency, Herrera has been working on his counter punching with long-time trainer and manager Willie Silva.

"Mauricio likes to frustrate his opponents with his defense," Silva said. "By understanding the rhythm and timing of his opponent, he'll have more opportunities to score points through counter punching. I have no doubt that Mauricio will outbox and outsmart Huerta on September 27."

On top of sparring with top-notch competition to ready for this fight, Herrera will have home court advantage as the bout takes place in Ontario, only 30 minutes from his hometown of Riverside. Out of his twenty-two professional fights, ten have taken place in Ontario.

"I love fighting at the Doubletree Hotel," Herrera said. "It's close to home so I'll have a lot of family and friends in attendance. It gets loud and sometimes it feels like the crowd is on top of you. For someone that hasn't experienced that before, it certainly can feel a little strange at first."

In other action, undefeated welterweight Giovanni Santillan (9-0, 5 KOs) of San Diego meets Mexican Angel Martinez (13-4-1, 9 KOs) in an 8-round fight. Santillan, like Herrera, is promoted by Thompson Boxing Promotions.

"Our training camp will be a little more intense this time around because this is my first 8-rounder," said Santillan, 21, a southpaw.  "My strategy will be slightly different than previous fights, but it won't effect the product.  Fans will no doubt be entertained."

Young, hard-hitting junior welterweight Jonathan Garcia (11-0, 9 KOs) of Watsonville, Calif. puts his unblemished record on the line against the more experienced Miguel Angel Munguia (30-27-1, 26 KOs) of Mexico City, Mexico in a 6-round fight.

Recently signed to Thompson Boxing Promotions junior welterweight Anthony Arellano (6-1-1, 2 KOs) of San Diego looks to impress in his debut under the TBP banner versus Los Angeles-native and all-action brawler Joaquin Sanchez (5-10-2, 2 KOs). The bout is scheduled for 6-rounds.  Arellano's defense and counter punching will be tested against the forward attack of Sanchez.

Junior featherweight Jorge Ruiz (3-0, 1 KO) shares a similar background to Arellano in that he is from San Diego and is also one of the latest editions to the Thompson Boxing roster. Ruiz will look for his fourth win against an opponent to be named later. The fight will be scheduled for 4-rounds.

Making their pro debuts against each other are junior middleweights Nico Macias of Tehachipi, Calif. and Francisco Ramirez of Riverside in a 4-round bout.

Opening the show is another recent signee to Thompson Boxing, Colombian Cesar Villarraga. He too is making his pro debut against fellow novice, Sopaun Rin of Chino, Calif. The opening bout is scheduled for 4-rounds.

Villarraga starred for Colombia at the 2010 South American Games going through Hector Manzanilla (Venezuela) and Erick Banguera (Ecuador) to advance to the gold medal match against Everton Lopes of Brazil. Villarraga would bring home the gold in the 57kg event and would later qualify for the 2012 London Olympics.

"Cesar's Olympic experience will serve him well early in his career," said Alex Camponovo, matchmaker for Thompson Boxing. "We will be able to move him along quicker than most other boxers, but first, he has to get through his first professional fight. We look forward to watching him open our show on Sept. 27."

"Path to Glory" is presented by Thompson Boxing Promotions and sponsored by Lucas Oil, in association with Time Warner Cable Deportes.

RECORD NUMBERS IN MEXICO FOR "THE ONE" MAYWEATHER VS. CANELO" BOUT WAS THE BIGGEST BOXING EVENT EVER ON MEXICAN TELEVISION, CAPTURING 8-OUT-OF-10 HOUSEHOLDS

Nearly 8-out-of-10 households in Mexico with a television set tuned into last Saturday's "THE ONE: Mayweather vs. Canelo" mega-fight live on Televisa's Channel 5.  The 12-round majority decision fight, which Mayweather won, garnered a national rating of 41.1 points, which equates to a 77 percent share, 22.1 million viewers and 5.9 million television households, making it the highest-rated boxing program ever on television in Mexico.  The telecast peaked with a National rating of 42 points (78.4 percent share/22.6 million viewers6 million television households) and the total program average from 8:00 p.m. CT to 12:30 a.m. CT was 30.1 points (16.2 million viewers/4.3 million television households).
"Boxing fans demanded "THE ONE" and when we gave it to them they responded with these record ratings," said Richard Schaefer, CEO of Golden Boy Promotions.  "This proves that great fights with great fighters like Floyd Mayweather and Canelo Alvarez will always strike a chord with viewers and that Canelo is undisputed as the biggest star Mexican boxing has today."
The last time a sporting event rated this high on Televisa was in 1999, for a Copa Confederaciones soccer final between Mexico vs. Brazil, with the only other programs rating this high in Mexico being select, very popular telenovelas on Televisa's Channel 2.
The previous viewership high for Canelo, who has never garnered less than 7.5 million viewers for one of his eight appearances on Televisa, was his April bout against Austin "No Doubt" Trout, which pulled in a 28 point rating and over 15 million viewers.

IBF LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT WORLD CHAMPION BERNARD HOPKINS TO FACE MANDATORY CHALLENGER KARO MURAT IN A BOUT RESCHEDULED FOR OCTOBER 26 AT BOARDWALK HALL IN ATLANTIC CITY, NJ LIVE ON SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING®

On October 26, the Hopkins vs. Murat fight will have a highly anticipated co-feature: PETER QUILLIN vs. GABRIEL ROSADO!

IBF Light Heavyweight Champion Bernard "The Executioner" Hopkins will become the oldest fighter in history to make his initial title defense when he faces highest rated light heavyweight challenger Karo Murat in a rescheduled championship event taking place Saturday, October 26 at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City.   The 12-round title fight, which was postponed from July 13 due to visa issues experienced by Murat, will air live on SHOWTIME® (9 p.m. ET/PT).  With those issues cleared up, Murat has his sights set on ending the reign of the 48-year-old future Hall of Famer.
Hopkins vs. Murat, a 12-round bout for Hopkins' IBF Light Heavyweight World Championship, is presented by Golden Boy Promotions and Caesars Atlantic City and supported by Golden Boy Promotions sponsors Corona and AT&T.  The SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING telecast begins live at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT (delayed on the West Coast).  SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING is available in Spanish on secondary audio programming (SAP).
"I'm happy this fight is back on," said Hopkins.  "Karo Murat is my mandatory and he is coming here to take down this 48-year-old champion, except he's coming three months late.  He gave me extra time to spend time with my family, stay in the gym longer to get ready for this fight. I'm going to be so physically and mentally prepared come October 26, Murat will know he is facing a great champion regardless of my age. I feel like a fighter in my 20s not my 40s."
"This fight has been a long time coming," said Murat.  "I had some issues with my visa but those are finally solved.  I felt ready in July and in October, I will feel even more ready.  I've been awaiting the chance to fight for the IBF title since late 2011 so three months extra is nothing tome.  Bernard Hopkins is 48 years of age - I guess he has enjoyed the summer. Will he be ready for me? I do not know. What I can say is that I will be at my best on October 26. When I am messing up his old bones it will make me a star in an instant."
"One of the most charismatic and accomplished fighters in recent generations, Bernard Hopkins continues to defy the odds with each record-setting performance," said Stephen Espinoza, Executive Vice President and General Manager, SHOWTIME Sports. "Not only does he keep winning, but he is doing so in impressive, often dazzling fashion.  But make no mistake, this is no showcase fight.  Karo Murat is a dangerous opponent. His only loss is to a current world champion in Nathan Cleverly and he holds a win over former World Champion Gabriel Campillo.   You can't underestimate an experienced and hungry fighter like Murat."
"Like any Bernard Hopkins bout, this October 26 Boardwalk Hall match has drawn considerable buzz throughout the entire region," said Kevin Ortzman, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Caesars, Bally's, and Showboat Atlantic City. "The public and the boxing community have waited in anticipation and now they will finally get their wish as the stage is set for Hopkins vs. Murat.

Nothing can be said about the life and career of Bernard "The Executioner" Hopkins (53-6-2, 32 KO's) that hasn't already been written or aired on television, radio, or the internet, but suffice to say that the 48-year-old from Philadelphia has earned the title "legend" for his storied nearly 15-year stay in the fight game. The longest reigning middleweight champion in boxing history, Hopkins went on to reinvent himself as a light heavyweight after turning 40, winning the world title twice. Each time, he set a new record as the oldest fighter to win a major world championship, but as his dominant 12 round win over previously unbeaten Tavoris Cloud in March showed, he's far from finished, a fact he plans on letting Murat know on October 26.
The number one contender for the IBF light heavyweight title, 29-year-old Karo Murat (25-1-1, 15 KO's) is on the verge of making history should he defeat Hopkins for his title. A pro since 2006 who has come up the hard way in the fight game, the resident of Kitzingen, Bavaria, Germany has won several regional titles en route to his place among the top 175-pounders in the world. Unbeaten for nearly three years since the lone loss of his career to WBO champion Nathan Cleverly in 2010, Murat's last two wins have been knockouts of Otis Griffin and Sandro Siproshvili, putting him at the front of the line for his dream fight against a future Hall of Famer.

So it is with great pleasure that Golden Boy Promotions is announcing a joint venture with Super Judah Promotions to co-promote Judah and make sure the world continues to see this boxing superstar on the sport's biggest stages.

"Super Judah Promotions and Golden Boy Promotions working together is phenomenal," said Judah. "I have been doing business with Golden Boy Promotions for a number of years, working both with them and against them and I know what it's like to be on both sides. Through those times, I see that we are a perfect fit. This joint venture will give me the experience I need as a promoter and get me the big fights I want at this point of my career."

"I am very happy to welcome Zab to the Golden Boy team," said Richard Schaefer, CEO of Golden Boy Promotions. "He is without question not only one of the most exciting fighters in boxing, but he also has tremendous name recognition with reaches into the general market. In his thrilling fight against Danny Garcia, Zab showed that he belongs in the absolute top level of the sport. I am looking forward to be working with Zab and his team and have him participate in the biggest fights in the junior welterweight and welterweight divisions."

Offered Bill Halkias, Vice President of Super Judah Promotions, "Zab Judah and Super Judah Promotions are looking forward to working with boxing's premier promoter in Golden Boy Promotions. We understand the importance of partnering with the best promoter in the business. It's the difference between having Zab in good fights and having Zab in great fights. Zab only wants to fight the best and Golden Boy Promotions stable of fighters is the best in boxing. "

A New York boxing icon who was a five-time world champion with titles in the junior welterweight and welterweight divisions, Brooklyn's Zab "Super" Judah (42-8, 29 KO's)showed in his recent challenge for Danny Garcia's 140-pound titles that he's still a major player at both 140 and 147 pounds. A veteran of nearly 17 years in the pro game, Judah owns wins over Micky Ward, Junior Witter, DeMarcus Corley, Cory Spinks, and Lucas Matthysse, while also battling the likes of Floyd Mayweather, Amir Khan, Kostya Tszyu, and Miguel Cotto. Winner of six of his last eight bouts, the dazzling boxer-puncher continues to provide thrills for fight fans around the world, and if his recent form is any indication, the best may be yet to come.

Zab Judah's next bout will be announced shortly.

Silver opportunity for Derrick Wilson Saturday vs. Robinson Castellanos in Mexico

Former U.S. amateur standout Derrick Wilson (10-4-2, 3 KOs), coming off a sensational upset of previously unbeaten prospect Braulio Santos this past June, has the opportunity of his young professional career this Saturday night in Tulum, Mexico, challenging World Boxing Council (WBC) Silver featherweight champion Robinson "Robin Hood" Castellanos (18-9, 11 KOs) in the 12-round main event.

Wilson, fighting out of Fort Myers (FL), was a 2004 National Silver Gloves champion, winning 50 of 57 amateur bouts with all of his losses coming in national competition.

The 24-year-old resurrected his boxing career by upsetting Santos (10-0), something he's become quite adept at having shocked Charlie Huerta (11-0) in 2009, by way of a first-round knockout.

"I think this fight will be easier for me than my last," Wilson said.  "My last fight was hard, a real challenge, against an undefeated fighter.  This guy (Castellanos) has already tasted losing before.  I'm more talented than him, skill-wise, and he doesn't have the power or speed to stay up with me.  My skills will overpower him."

Castellanos, rated No. 2 by the WBC, has won his last 10 fights in a row. He captured his WBC Silver title belt in 2011, stopping Alberto Garza (23-4-1) in the eighth round, and has successfully defended his title six times.  His last fight was a win by 12-round split decision over Celestino Caballero (36-4) last April.

"I know if I win this fight," Wilson remarked, "it'll open a lot of doors for me. But I'm just thinking about this fight itself.  I have too many other things going on in my life and can't afford to think about what ifs.  He (Castellanos) is just another person in the ring with me."

Wilson's manager, Si Stern, hopes Castellanos is looking past Wilson, ahead to a Mexican showdown with newly crowned WBC champion Jhonny Gonzalez.

"This is a great opportunity for Derrick," Stern commented.  "He got this shot because of his last fight.  Derrick is a young, very good fighter who has turned his career around since getting back with his amateur coach, Larry Wills, who has gotten Derrick fully focused.  He's a completely different fighter now.  We have to give credit to Golden Boy Promotions.  Wilson isn't signed with them, but Golden Boy liked what they saw in Derrick, and gave him this opportunity. If Derrick fights the way he did in his last fight, he'll win Saturday night, positioning him to fight the top featherweights in the world."
