Delgado and Hudson-Webb Talk About New Promotion!

Delgado Boxing Promotions, in Association with Mezereon Management,
will be promoting their first show on July 21, 2012, at The Buckhead Theatre. “This opportunity could not come at a better time,” stated Paul Delgado. After winning the WBF North American Title in December of 2011, Paul has not been back in the ring. “I continued to train, hoping for an opportunity to come my way. When things didn’t connect, I focused more on my gym. I’ve
been working with my clients and boxers, and I did some interviews with CNN to promote my business. My goal was always to start my own promotion in my hometown to give back to the community, but I never expected it to happen this soon.” In the months that followed Delgado’s North American title championship, the phone began to ring with calls interested in acquiring Delgado on cards away from home. Although the fights paid well they were on short notice. Delgado’s interest was not in the monetary gain only. He wanted to fight again in front of his hometown crowd and fans. He also wanted to follow the path of his WBF championship back in December. Taking all his options into consideration, Delgado decided it was time to make a move on his promotion albeit sooner than he had anticipated. Delgado’s manager, Lisa Hudson Webb of Mezereon recalls. “I remember Paul calling me one day very excited saying, ‘Let’s just go ahead and do this. Let’s promote our own show and I’ll defend my WBF title in my own backyard.’ He was ready to move on it, he’s been thinking about it for a while, so we’ve put it in motion.” Not only does the debut of ATL Boxing feature a title bout between Delgado and Mike Ruiz, the show spotlights some of the best undefeated talent in the Southeast. The card carries seven professional bouts, including one of Georgia’s favorite female boxers, Jackie Breitenstein. Three of the boxers on the card have a combined record of 31-0: Jared Robinson (10-0), Michael Seals (11-0), and Brian Howard (9-0). In action will also be, local Mexican mega attraction Jesus “La Sombra” Tavera (4-1), Tim “The Boss” Hall, and Jose Felix. All of which have fought some of the toughest boxers in the area. With the caliber of boxers together on one card, no one is going to leave disappointed by any of these performances. There will be a short intermission show of three outstanding amateur boxing bouts: Yusef Shabazz, Elijah Shabazz, and a special Delgado Boxer, cancer survivor Lionel Harris.

Rhodes to Zuhdi: “Step Up and Fight Me”!‏

Lightweight up and comer Lydell Rhodes is sick of hearing about interstate rival Noah Zuhdi.
The reigning catBOX champion, Zuhdi, 15-1 (12 KO’s), is wildly popular in his hometown of Oklahoma City and receives a good amount of press to go along with his fanfare. Rhodes doesn’t think he deserves it.
“I know Noah’s a smart guy because he’s also a lawyer,” said Rhodes. “I’m currently college but the difference between us is that I’m a fighter who goes to school and he’s a lawyer that happens to box. The problem is he goes around Oklahoma claiming he’s the best. If you think you’re the best, prove it!”
Rhodes, the HD Boxing titlist, also believes there is no use in waiting to make it happen since both men are from the same state and fight in the same weight class.
“Only one of us can be the best 135 pound fighter in this area, so we should get in the ring and fight. We all know that you’ve been fighting a bunch of guys with no pulse and people are sick of seeing mismatches. I’m ready to fight and it’s on his team to make this happen. People ask me about fighting Zuhdi and I’m tired of biting my tongue about the fight. If it did happen, I’d stop him without a doubt because he’s not on my level. As a matter of fact, if he went the distance with me but still lost, I’d give him my purse and we can put that in the contract!”
Under the guidance of Floyd Mayweather Sr. Rhodes is a perfect 10-0 with 5 wins by knockout. Earlier this year, Rhodes scored a dominant 8 round decision over experienced Ira Terry (24-7) and is looking to take another step in the right direction. The Spencer native, who fought seven of his ten bouts in OKC under the HD Boxing Promotions banner, has the support of his team in making the highly anticipated title bout against Zuhdi.
“We would love to make the fight with (Zuhdi’s promotional company) catBOX Entertainment,” stated Bobby Dobbs of HD Boxing. “Both fighters have titles in Oklahoma and fight for the crowd. With that said, Zuhdi isn’t remotely on Lydell’s level and I’d love to see him prove what we both believe!”

TRAD TKO BOXING GYM 3RD ANNUAL BOXERS & CELEBRITIES CHARITY FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT In Aid of the INDEE ROSE TRUST Sunday, 12th August 2012 @ Concord Rangers FC, Canvey Island, Essex

Boxing Stars Lace Up Boots For 3rd Annual TRAD TKO Charity Football Tournament On August 12th

For the past couple of years around this time TRAD TKO Boxing Gym supremo Johnny Eames has taken a break, from the business of Boxing, to head up the team that organises the annual Boxers and Celebrities Charity Football Tournament, to raise much needed funding for the Indee Rose Trust, which provides support and care packages for youngsters suffering from brain and spinal tumours.

This year is no different, as earlier today Johnny announced the date and location for this year’s extravaganza - Sunday, 12th August at the Concord Rangers Football Club on Canvey Island, Essex.

For those of you that have yet to attend one of these excellent tournaments, boy have you missed out on a great day out, as well as the chance to watch some of the sport’s biggest stars in action.

The list of those that have taken part in previous events, many of whom will again be at Canvey Island on the 12th August, is a veritable who’s who of British Boxing, Music and Television.

Boxing luminaries, such as David Haye, Ricky Hatton, Nathan Cleverly Matthew Macklin, Kevin Mitchell, Ricky Burns, Barry McGuigan, Paul and Stephen Smith, Billy Joe Saunders, Willie Limond, Rendall Munroe, Anthony Crolla, Graham Earl, Tony Oakey, Wayne Elcock, Ross Minter, Martin Power etc. have previously taken part, of which many will again be in action on the 12th August and joined by celebrities such as Alex Reid, Johnny Borrell (Razorlight), Iron Maiden, Mark Wingett (Jim Carver - The Bill), Stephen Bell (Coronation Street), various of the Eastenders and Shameless cast etc.

These special events have proved a huge hit with the fans, with both the previous events raising in excess of £20,000 for this exceptionally worthwhile cause. A figure that Johnny, as well as the Boxers and Celebrities already signed up for this year’s event, will be determined to better.

On making the announcement Johnny, who last year himself underwent treatment for Cancer, said, “Yeah, this year sees the third annual TRAD TKO Charity football tournament, in aid of the Indee Rose Trust. Which, for those that don’t know, has boxers and celebrities taking part and raising money for children with brain and spinal tumors.

It’s a great cause, we’ve had a great response from the boxing community, as well as from celebrities from music and TV, for the first two years and this years been no different.

In fact this year’s been crazy, even though we haven’t press released it yet because we’ve been busy with other things, yet the phone hasn’t stopped, everyone, celebrities and boxers, want to take part.

The past couple of years we’ve had a proper who’s who of boxing turn out, the likes of David Haye, Ricky Hatton, Nathan Cleverly, Ricky Burns, Rendall Munroe, Kevin Mitchell, Billy Joe Saunders, Paul Smith, just to name a few, but the list is endless and if I’ve not mentioned you, I don’t mean nothing by it, there are so many of you that come and turn out for it and we really appreciate that you do.

Last year’s was fantastic, we raised over twenty grand again, which far exceeded anything we expected as we put it together over a three week period due to my treatment. But that’s made me more determined to raise even more this year really.

This year we’ve got Joe Gallagher bring his team down again, which I’m sure will have more players than it did last year. Billy Nelson’s bringing a Scottish team down, Nathan Cleverly’s bringing his own team down from Wales, full of Welsh fighters and celebrities. It’s a real four nations as we’ve also got Alio bringing the Irish boys over again.

Paul Smith and the scousers, who won the first year, will be back. Paul who like me is a patron of the Indee Rose Trust and does great work up in Liverpool for the kids - he likes to keep it low profile but we’re watching and know what great work you’re doing, it’s fantastic what you do kid.

It’s just a great cause and if you haven’t been before, you really should get yourself along there on the 12th August, it’ll be at Concord Rangers Football Club on Canvey Island.

Keep a check on the TKO website, my facebook page and for press releases to learn more about who’ll be there as well as tickets and stuff.

Look forward to seeing you all there.”

This year’s TRAD TKO Boxing Gym organised Boxers and Celebrities Football Tournament, in aid of the Indee Rose Trust, kicks off at 12:00pm at the Concord Rangers FC, Thames Road, Canvey Island, Essex on Sunday 12th August 2012.

Cobbs, Wiggins finally set to meet‏; The wait is over After a year’s worth of brewing hostility, Cobbs, Wiggins are ready to settle the score

What started as one fighter’s innocent plea for competition more than a year ago and exploded into a vicious, online war is about to reach its peak Thursday night at the Twin River Event Center.

“The Vermont Bully” Kevin Cobbs (4-0, 1 KO), one of New England’s rising stars in the light heavyweight division, will face the colorful Donte “Mr. Magic” Wiggins (1-0, 1 KO) of Queens, N.Y., in a four-round bout fight fans have been waiting for since last summer when Cobbs first included Wiggins on his now-infamous checklist of regional fighters he wanted to face.

“I’m not worried about him,” Cobbs said. “Whatever he comes with, I’m confident in my ability and what my coaches and trainers will provide for me. I’m ready for the next step, and the next step – I guess – is Donte Wiggins.”

The long-awaited showdown between Cobbs and Wiggins will be one of nine bouts on Jimmy Burchfield’s Classic Entertainment & Sports’ “Built to Last” professional boxing card, scheduled for Thursday, July 19th, 2012 in Lincoln, R.I.

The feud started last summer when Cobbs, only 1-0 at the time, publicly posted a list of fighters in the 175-pound division he felt he needed to beat in order to get to the top of his weight class. The list included Reinaldo Graceski of Springfield, Mass., and Alex Amparo, but the initial target was Joey Gardner, who had recently won the New England light heavyweight title by beating Keith Kozlin.

According to Cobbs, Wiggins wasn’t even on the list until Cobbs’ manager at the time, Bobby Smead, told him the road to the title would ultimately have to go through Wiggins, so Cobbs made a revised list that included his soon-to-be opponent.

Wiggins caught wind of the list through Smead – who, coincidentally, is now managing him instead of Cobbs – and began challenging Cobbs with a viral onslaught of online videos and postings through the social networking giant Facebook, most of it not fit for print.

“[Wiggins] made it sound like I was calling him out specifically,” Cobbs said. “I was just letting people know these are the guys I have to go through. Then he stepped up and said, ‘I’ve never even heard of you!’ and so on and so forth.

“We kind of just ran with it.”

The two agreed to face one another in August of 2011, but the fight fell through. Wiggins, who trained in Providence with Jose Santos, grew tired of waiting for an opponent and ultimately moved back to Queens since he hadn’t fought since November – a first-round knockout win over Paul Gonsalves in his first and only professional fight.

“I stayed in Rhode Island, because those were the people I was comfortable training with, but without any fights, I wasn’t making any money,” Wiggins said. “I was so far in debt I had to get another job, and then I had no offers to fight because I wasn’t in the gym. I honestly though it was over for me.”

Wiggins soon linked up with Smead, who promised to get him back in the ring. Last month, shortly after the July 19th show was announced, Wiggins made Cobbs another offer to fight at 180 pounds, which Cobbs ultimately accepted, sparking another round of verbal assaults that haven’t stopped since the two signed their contracts.

Why, after a year, did Cobbs answer the bell?

“Because he called me out,” Cobbs said. “After everything with the first fight fell apart, we weren’t even looking at him. He was inactive. He was gone – nowhere to be found. He’d have to call me out. I’m 4-0. He’s only 1-0. It’s not helping me to call him out, but if he wants to fight me I’ll take the fight.

“The last thing I’ll do is duck somebody.”

The pre-fight hype includes a video interview in which Wiggins – surrounded by his entourage – questions Cobbs’ resume (Cobbs has won three fights since the two began feuding last summer) and predicts a win next Thursday.

“I wish the videos were done better. Then I’d probably like them,” Cobbs quipped. “They’re in a dark alley shooting dice – in dirty T-shirts. It just shows what kind of goons they are. That doesn’t hype me up at all. It’s not professional. It’s a joke to me.

“If anything, I got a great laugh out of it. All of that is just talk. He just constantly talks. The best thing he can do is try to get in my head. That’s the only way he can beat me, because there’s no way he can beat me in the ring.”

“Of course he doesn’t like [the videos], because he doesn’t want to get punched in the face,” Wiggins said. “He’s boring – very boring. Kevin Cobbs is an intermission fighter. CES puts him in the ring when they want people to go to the bathroom or get drinks. He’s a model, too; he’s got a six-pack so he can look good on posters.”

Come Thursday, Cobbs may have the edge in stamina; he’s remained active within the past year while Wiggins hasn’t fought since making his debut, but Wiggins has been working extensively with Mike Ocasio at former welterweight world title challenger Aaron Davis’ gym in the Bronx and promises a new look Thursday.

“I’ve been training for almost two months now; I feel good,” he said. “A lot of things came back to me rather quickly. This was more about weight and stamina than anything else. We’re doing lots of running and wind sprints, really building up my cardio so that I can take down the weight without being weak the night of the fight.”

The equalizer could be Wiggins’ power; he prefers to stand toe-to-toe and trade punches. He willingly exchanged with Gonsalves in their fight two years ago before catching his opponent with a right hand that sent Gonsalves tumbling to the canvas.

“Everyone says he’s a slugger. He likes for you to stand in front of him and bang with him,” Cobbs said. “He wants to close that distance and land that one big shot. He’ll have to do a lot of that because I’m not going to be standing in front of him. He’s been going online and telling me to just stand there and not run.

“Obviously, he doesn’t know boxing. In boxing, you have to do everything and anything to survive in the ring, whether it’s hold, move around the ring … play head games. The last thing I’m going to do is exactly what he told me to do.”

With the fight less than a week away, the talk has finally subsided. Cobbs and Wiggins are set to face one another in a long-awaited showdown that has grabbed most of the headlines leading up to this event, and could wind up stealing the show Thursday night.

“I’m not saying I’m the best in the world, but I have a lot of heart and I don’t mind getting in there as long as the people who buy tickets see that I give 100 percent,” Wiggins said. “I’m an action fighter, like an Arturo Gatti or Emanuel Augustus.

“That’s the style I’m trying to bring back. These other dudes want to pick and choose their fights. I want to make the crowd happy.”
