Kelly "The Ghost" Pavlik haunts Jermain "Bad Intentions Taylor, Andre Berto out jabs David Estrada

Atlantic City, NJ - Unbeaten Kelly "The Ghost" Pavlik (31-0, 28 KO's) of Youngstown, Ohio and No.1 contender(WBO & WBC) KO'd undefeated and undisputed world middleweight champion Jermain "Bad Intentions" Taylor (27-0-1, 17 KO's) of Little Rock, Arkansas. In the main event, for the 10,000 plus in attendance at the Boardwalk Hall and the millions watching on HBO sports world championship boxing, Taylor lost his WBC world middleweight championship title to the undefeated top ranked challenger Kelly Pavlik when referee Steve Smuger stopped the bout in the 7-round, of a scheduled 12-round championship contest.

Andre Berto (20-0,16 KO's) of Winterhaven Florida, in a NABF welterweight championship/WBC and IBF eliminator, won in the 11th round by TKO, over David Estrada (21-4,12 KO's) of Miami Florida.

Richard Pierson (5-1) and sparring partner for Kelly Pavlik, opened the action with a powerful display against Ray Smith (7-2-2 KO's), referee Sparkle Lee stopped the bout 2:58 into the 5th round, awarding Pierson a TKO victory.

Ronald Hearns (16-0-13 KO's) of Southfield, MI and hot middleweight prospect TKO'd Robert Kamya (16-8-4 KO's) of Florida. Hearns son of the great Thomas "Hitman" Hearns, twice dropped Kamya before referee Samuel Viruet stopped at the bout at 2:42 mark of the first round. Hearns is promoted by Lou DiBella.

Robert Hawkins (22-9,7, KO's) of Philadelphia, PA in a heavyweight 6 round bout, by unanimous decision, defeated Terry Smith (30-3,18 KO's) of Jermain Taylor's hometown, Little Rock AR.


Chazz Witherspoon heavyweight improved to (20-0) with his 5th round TKO win over Ron Guerrero (19-15-3,13 KO's). Chazz Witherspoon is a college graduate.

Keisha and Tim Witherspoon former two- time world heavyweight champion and Chazz's cousin, looked on from ringside at the victory.


Omar Sheika (27-8-18 KO's) a native of Paterson, NJ broke a bone in his right hand after landing his first punch, Omar Sheika KO'd, Tiwon Taylor, now (26-14-1-19, KO's) in the 4th round. Sheika, now fighting as a light heavyweight, is returning to action following more than a two-year layoff was a popular former title contender, who was sidelined with previous hand injuries, now faces a big obstacle in his quest for one more title opportunity.

The celebrated life of the historic boxing ring of Madison Square Garden will officially be retired on Wednesday, September 19th. Upon it’s official retirement the boxing ring will be donated to the International Boxing Hall of Fame in Canastota, New York. The ring will be displayed in the Amphitheater where boxing fans from around the world will have the opportunity to learn of its legendary past.
