Curtain goes up for “Rage At The River” Joey “KO Kid” Spina headlines May 22nd show at Twin River Event Center, RI

PROVIDENCE – The beginning of a new Classic Entertainment and Sports, Inc. (CES) professional boxing series kicks-off May 22nd as world rated light heavyweight Joey “KO Kid” Spina headlines “Rage At The River” at Twin River Event Center in Lincoln, Rhode Island.

“Rage At The River,” presented by CES in association with Twin River, launches a New England-based series at Twin River and Memorial Hall in Plymouth. Rehearsals were held earlier this year at both venues and the series goes into full swing May 22 in Lincoln and June 12 in Plymouth.

“This series will include some fighters positioning themselves for title fights and also provide valuable exposure for some of the best young talent in New England,” CES president Jimmy Burchfield explained. “What we are providing, though, is an evening of entertainment, not just competitive pro boxing, with singing, dancing and much more.”

Spina (24-1-1, 17 KOs), fighting out of Providence, is rated No. 12 in the WBA, as well as No. 13 by the WBC and WBO. He takes on veteran Tiwon Taylor (26-14-1, 19 KOs), former Carolina Boxing Association title-holder, who has been in against world champions Adrian Diaconu, Fabrice Tiozzo and Lou Del Valle, in the 8-round main event. “Joey Spina is one of the most exciting and hardest-hitting fighters in the world,” Burchfield noted. “He’s like Rocky Marciano in the sense he can be losing after six rounds and suddenly put his opponent to sleep with a single punch.”

Young middleweight James McGirt, Jr. 19-2-1, 9 KOs), from Vero Beach (FL), makes his CES debut in the 6-round co-feature against an opponent to be determined.. McGirt is trained by his father, former 2-time world champion and Trainer of the Year, James “Buddy” McGirt.

Also on the card in separate 6-round bouts are EBA super middleweight champion “Irish” Joe McCreedy (10-2-1, 5 KOs) against Victor Paz (9-7-1, 1 KO) and world featherweight title challenger Sandy “Lil’ Tyson” Tsagouris (9-1, 4 KOs) versus TBA.

Supporting the show in 4-round matches are cruiserweight Jay Holland (1-0, 1 KO) vs. TBA, lightweight Sean Eklund (6-3, 1 KO) – trained by his uncle, “Irish” Micky Ward – vs. Jose Guzman (3-4-1), light welterweight Diego Periera (2-0, 2 KOs) vs. Pablo Tejada (2-9-1, 0 KOs) and Omar Pena (1-0-1, 0 KOs), managed by former EBU lightweight champ Gary “Tiger” Balletto, vs. Ramon Santos (0-1). All fights and fighters are subject to change.

“We’re very excited about James McGirt, Jr. making his CES debut,” Burchfield commented. “Everybody involved with or part of Team CES is looking forward to watching James showcase his world-class talent and reload en route to a world title shot. McCreedy has proven he’s a straight- forward fighter that fans love to see in action. He wants to step-up his career and we’re going to give him that opportunity. Sandy is called, ‘Lil’ Tyson,’ because she looks up to and fights like Mike used to. I think she’s like a female Vinny Paz; she may get bloody but Sandy keeps punching. Sandy’s an exciting, marketable fighter who is risking a world title shot (WIBA) lined-up for her later this year in Bosnia. Sean Eklund lost his last fight but most people felt that he really won that fight. I don’t know what his uncle (Micky Ward) has been doing with him, but he showed tremendous improvement and looked the best we’ve seen in his last fight. Jay Holland has trouble finding sparring partners because he’s so tough. He also has a great following. Diego and Omar are two bright prospects from Rhode Island who both have a lot of upside.”

"SHOWTIME" ADDED TO VIP BOXING CARD

Exciting super middleweight contender, Curtis "Showtime" Stevens (19-2, 14KO) will look to improve to a perfect 3-0 under the Star Boxing banner, when he takes on dangerous Don Mouton (9-3-1, 8KO) on April 28th in an eight round super middleweight contest. Stevens vs. Mouton will be the co-feature bout of the evening for Joe DeGuardia's Star Boxing premier installment of its new series "VIP Boxing." The bout will take place at the elegant Russo's On The Bay in Howard Beach, NY, and is headlined by Queens own heavyweight fan favorite Vinny Maddalone (31- 5, 22KO) taking on Benji "Boom Boom" Baker (18-6, 9KO), in a scheduled eight rounder.

STEVENS WITH PROMOTER JOE DEGUARDIA

The 24-year-old Stevens, who hails from Brownsville, NY, was one of the most touted amateur prospects to come out of New York in years when he turned pro back in 2004 at the age of 19. Stevens is a very exciting and aggressive boxer and has tremendous power in both hands, as witnessed by 14 of his 19 wins coming by way of knockout. Since joining the Star roster, Stevens is a perfect 2-0, 2KO's including a 48 second annihilation of Ray Smith in his last fight back in November. A single left hook to the temple from Stevens sent Smith down hard, and then stumbling across the ring upon attempting to get up.

Mounton is by no means a push over. In his last fight he knocked out Olympian Jerson Ravelo in the 8th round. Prior to the fight with Ravelo, Mouton won an easy ten round unanimous decision over Walid Smichet. Smichet is best known for giving undefeated John Duddy worlds of trouble when they squared off back in 2008. Many felt Smichet did more then enough to win the fight, battering and bloodying Duddy for ten action packed rounds. Duddy needed 30 stitches to repair cuts in his face he suffered from the fight, which ultimately ended up costing him a $1.45 million dollar payday against middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik.

"This is one of those fights that as a boxing fan you love to see," stated Joe DeGuardia, CEO and President of Star Boxing. "Curtis is one of the biggest punchers in his division, and has produced numerous highlight reel knockouts since entering the professional ranks, including a perfect two for two while fighting for Star (Thomas Reid TKO8, Ray Smith TKO1)."

"Mouton is a tough guy, and he is not going to run from Curtis. He is going to be right there for Curtis to hit and when Curtis hits you, he hurts you. This is going to be an extremely entertaining co-feature bout and we are really excited to see Curtis come out victorious and take another step towards challenging the elite fighters in the super middleweight division."
Russos
The show will kick off at 7PM sharp with an hour long cocktail reception. Immediately following the reception a four course elegant dinner will start being served, at which time the first bout will go on. There will be cocktail service throughout, with an open bar running for the remainder of the evenings fights.

In addition, Star Boxing has teamed up with Bruce Eagel's, Eagel Sports Promotions to showcase some of the most incredible sports and entertainment memorabilia for auction throughout the night. A silent auction will be going on at different tables throughout the arena during the bouts, with the feature items of the evening being auctioned off inside the ring between fights. Proceeds from the auction will benefit local charities.
See you at the Fights.
Thanks for your time.

American Idol meets MMA

LAS VEGAS– The revolutionary www.fightengine.com is like American Idol meeting Mixed Martial Arts.

The newly launched state-of-the-art website is changing the way MMA fighters market themselves, much like singers auditioning for American Idol, and participating Fight Engine fans can act like Simon and Paula, criticizing video-posted fighters as well as arguing with other fans regarding which fighters they want matched against each other.

Promoters and managers, through Fight Engine, now have a brand new way to scout talent as fans develop into real matchmakers.

Future plans include a “KO the Pro” section where a top level fighter will be posted as other fighters vie for selection in a “KO the Pro” match-up. The first “KO The Pro” is living legend Bob “The Beast” Sapp, one of the key advisors for www.fightengine.com.

“I’m really excited to be involved with this venture and I’m looking forward to being the first ‘KO The Pro,’” Sapp said. “I’m going to be getting more and more involved in Fight Engine because I believe that it’s the future right now. I’m not done fighting, either. Wherever I go and whatever I’m involved in, I will be bringing Fight Engine all over the world with me. If I’m fighting for a particular company, you can bet they’ll know all about Fight Engine.

“Right now, my focus is on introducing FightEngine.com to promotional companies all over the world, explaining how they can use it as a state-of-the-art tool to scout talent from anywhere on the planet without leaving their laptops. There are so many great fighters out there that haven’t been discovered, yet. With Fight Engine, though, no more excuses about not knowing for fighters, promoters, managers or fans.”

FightEngine.com works with any and all MMA promoters and fighters to gain International notoriety. Registered fighters from around the world, whether a veteran or novice, may post his or her video and challenge other registered fighters, allowing each participant to accept or deny challenges, as well as express their semi-uncensored opinions about any posted challenges.

A non-discriminatory source providing male and female fighters, as well as ring girls, FightEngine.com offers opportunities to gain invaluable exposure on its popular website. Promoters and managers have already started closely monitoring fightengine.com to scout for their next street fighting prospects.

Fightengine.com also offers a unique opportunity for some selected MMA fighters to earn a guaranteed five-figure purse, sign a potential six-figure promotional contract, paid travel expenses and, in the not too distant future, hopefully, other life-changing benefits through membership.

Fans can get in on the action simply by registering on the website to become quasi-matchmakers, picking fighters they’d like to watch in matches, in addition to commenting about fights other spectators propose

A thermometer can be found on the right-hand side of the website, which will illuminate on a rising basis, according to the amount of registered fighters, and subsequently fights will be arranged when the thermometer reaches its apex.

Once there are enough fighters and fans registered on the website, FightEngine.com will serve as a tool to arrange fights on a super card, guaranteeing purses of $10,000, $25,000, $50,000 and $100,000.

Go to www.fightengine.com or www.myspace.com/fightengine for additional information.

See you at the Fights.
Thanks for your time.
