Knockout puncher Anne Sophie Mathis wants Holly Holm, Cecelia Braekhus then retirement?
Last December, French knockout artist Anne Sophie Mathis (26-1-0, 22ko) fought in the United States for the first time, stopping nine-time world champion Holly Holm (30-2-3, 9ko) to capture the IBA and WBAN titles, as well as the mythical women's pound-for-pound championship. Holm has lost only twice in nearly eight years, including her shocking seventh-round loss by knockout to Mathis, which snapped Holly's 24-fight unbeaten streak. Their much-anticipated 10-round rematch is set for June 15 at the same site as their December 2 fight, headlining the Fresquez Productions presented "The Reckoning" at the Route 66 Casino Hotel in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

THE RECKONING Anne Sophie Mathis vs. Holly Holm II IBA Welterweight & WBAN Championships
Promoter Lenny Fresquez predicts
Mathis vs. Holm II as
2012 Female Fight of the Year
'The Reckoning,' June 15 at Route 66 Casino Hotel in Albuquerque
Veteran boxing promoter Lenny Fresquezhas predicted that "The Reckoning," featuring a June 15 rematch between French knockout-artist Anne Sophie Mathis and Holly "The Preachers Daughter" Holm, will be the 2012 Female Fight of the Year.
"The Reckoning," presented by Fresquez Productions, will be held at Route 66 Casino Hotel in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
"I think it'll be closely fought and the Fight of the Year," Fresquez said. "Hands down, they are the top two women fighters in the world. This will be the most important fight of Holly's career, in which she'll try to regain her pound-for-pound status."
Mathis will defend her IBA and WBAN welterweight title belts, as well as the mythical pound-for-pound crown, for the first time since capturing the coveted straps last December by way of a stunning seventh-round knockout of hometown darling Holm.
Mathis (26-1, 22 KOs) was fighting in the United States for the first time, while Holm (30-2-3, 9 KOs) had been unbeaten for seven years during a 24-fight stretch.
"Holly won the first four rounds and in the fourth she hit Anne Sophie with a good body shot," Fresquez recounted their "World Dominance" showdown. "Holly went for the kill; she started brawling, instead of boxing, and got caught. Holly rushed out for the fifth round and, in her words, didn't execute the game plan. She understands the mistakes she made and has learned from them."
Mathis is a power puncher, Holm a consummate boxer. But Holly got away from her game plan. "Mathis came into the fight last December with 22 knockouts in 25 fights," Fresquez continued. "Everybody knew about her power and the plan was for Holly to out-box her from a distance. Holly hurt her in the fourth with that body punch but then she got away from her game plan. We took that loss as a team. Anne Sophie Mathis was the best fighter in the world that night."
Seven-time world champion and reigning IBA/WBA titilist Mathis, who is riding a 25-fight win streak, has defeated world champions such as Holm, Myriam Lamare(twice), Jane Couch, Duda Yankovich, Ana Pascal and Nathalie Toro.
Holm is a nine time, three-division world champion who has defeated some of the most notable women boxers of her era, from the 140 through 154-pound weight classes, including Christy Martin, Mary Jo Sanders, Mia St. John, Couch, Yankovich and Chevelle Hallback (twice).
"I've never seen Holly so determined," Fresquez concluded. "Based on past statistics, I understand that about 85 percent of rematches are won by the winner of the first fight. But Coach Winkeljohn and I strongly feel that Holly has learned from her mistakes and she will gain retribution on June 15th. In the last fight, they were throwing leather, and I've never seen women hit like that. These two women are more ferocious than a lot of guys. In all my years promoting women's boxing, I never saw a fight that both fighters threw and connected on so many hard punches. They tried to take each other's heads off. I expect this fight to be equally exciting and hard fought."
Mathis and Holm are simply the best women fighters, pound for pound, in the world today. This could develop into the greatest rivalry in women's boxing history.

Mathis vs. Holm II Confirmed For WBF World Title
It’s now confirmed that a rematch between perhaps the two bestMathis’ third defense of the WBF World title she won in June of last year.
pound-for-pound female boxers in the world, and definitely the two best welterweights, Anne Sophie Mathis (26-1, 22 KOs) of France and American Holly Holm (30-2-3, 9 KOs), will take place on June 15 in Albuquerque, New Mexico for Mathis’ World Boxing Federation World Welterweight title.
This serves as clear indication that the WBF is already the top
sanctioning body for female boxing, and WBF president Howard Goldberg, who will be acting as supervisor for the bout, is delighted about the progress his organization has made in short time: “We have many of the absolute
best female boxers as our world champions, and it is only fitting that the
rematch between these two amazing fighters is for the WBF title. I think
it’s outstanding that the WBF is already at the very top when it comes to
women’s boxing, but I am not surprised that promoters and boxers are
realizing that our title is the title to pursue”.
Mathis and Holm had a grueling encounter last December with Mathis winning
by seventh round knockout. As their original fight, the rematch,
appropriately billed as “The Reckoning”, will take place at Route 66
Casino Hotel, and will be promoted by Fresquez Productions. It will be

Pound-for-Pound Boxing Queen Holly Holm Preparing to establish ‘World Dominance’ Dec. 2 showdown vs. Anne Sophie Mathis
Boxing’s Pound-for-Pound Queen, Holly “The Preacher’s Daughter” Holm, has thoroughly exhausted the list of leading North American challengers, so her promoter, Lenny Fresquez (Fresquez Productions) looked across the Atlantic Ocean to challenge Europe’s premier boxer, French superstarAnne Sophie Mathis. Holm-Mathis will headline the “World Dominance” card on December 2 at Route 66 Casino Hotel in Albuquerque.
“My fight with Ann Sophie is going to be very tough,” Holly remarked. “She’s a tall fighter who uses her range. A fight like this definitely helps women’s boxing. I don’t want to be a paper champ and boxing fans don’t want to see one. On December 2nd they’ll see the top two rated women boxers in the world. My pride will be on the line because I’ve always believed you need to beat the best in order to be the best. I’ve never wanted easy fights. Winning a challenge like this makes it an even sweeter victory.”
Holm (30-1-3, 9 KOs) will be gunning to regain her IBA Welterweight title and WBAN Championship Belt in the 10-round main event against Mathis (23-1, 20 KOs), the WBO European Welterweight Champion. “World Dominance,” presented by Fresquez Productions, is a modern day match-up of contrasting female prizefighters, showcasing a consummate boxer (southpaw Holm) versus a knockout specialist (Mathis).
A multiple world champion in three different divisions (light welterweight, welterweight and light middleweight), Holly has defeated virtually all of the significant names of the past decade in women’s boxing from the 140 through 154-pound classes, including Christy Martin, Mary Jo Sanders, Mia St. John, Jane Couch, Duda Yankovich and Chevelle Hallback (twice). Holm is riding a 24-fight unbeaten streak, dating back to her only pro loss in 2004, when a serious cut under her eye prevented her from continuing to fight.
The 29-year-old Holm sports an amazing 20-0-1 (6 KOs) record in world title fights, in addition to a 14-0-1 mark versus world champions.
“There will always be somebody out there good to fight, maybe an up-and-comer or somebody overlooked” Holm said, “but I believe I’ve fought the best here but two European fighters (Mathis and Cecilia Braekhus) are good options for me. I haven’t fought either one, yet, and they’re both very good.
“Women are constantly trying to prove themselves to boxing fans. We put our heart into fighting each time we step in the ring. The top women fights are better than a lot of men’s fight on TV.”
Mathis, who will be fighting outside of Europe for the first time, is currently on a 22-fight, 16-year win skein, since she suffered her only pro loss in her second fight. She’s a two-time world light welterweight champion and Dec. 2 will mark the fifth anniversary of her first world title victory, in which she stopped previously unbeaten Myriam Lamare (13-0) for the WBA crown and vacant EBU championship. Ann Sophie’s victims also include world champions Couch, Yankovich, Ana Pascal and Nathalie Toro.
Holm is expected to fight WBC/WBA/WBO welterweight champion Cecilia ‘First Lady”Braekhus (18-0, 4 KOs) next year.

Holly “The Preachers Daughter” Holm will take on Anne Sophie Mathis for ‘World Dominance’ Announced Dec. 2 at Route 66 Casino Hotel in Albuquerque
Holm dominated all 10-rounds en route to unanimous decision (100-90 X 3) victory last night against aggressive Victoria Cisneros at Route 66 Casino Hotel.
Holm (30-1-3, 9 KOs) will try to regain her IBA Welterweight title and WBAN Championship Belt in the 10-round main event against Mathis (23-1, 20 KOs), the WBO European Welterweight Champion from France. Holm-Mathis, presented by Fresquez Productions, is a modern day match-up between the consummate boxer, southpaw Holm, and knockout specialist, Mathis, who will be fighting outside of Europe for the first time.
“This has all the makings of an instant classic, potentially one of the greatest fights in women’s boxing history,” Fresquez said. “Holly has exhausted all of her competitive options in the U.S., fighting just about every legitimate title challenger – 11 world champions – and now she wants to test herself against the best European fighter, Ann Sophie Mathis. It promises to be a memorable night for boxing fans all over the world, not just women’s boxing fans.”
Holm’s only loss was in 2004 and she’s won 23 of 24 fights since with one draw. A multiple world champion in three different divisions (light welterweight, welterweight and light middleweight), Holly has defeated all of the significant names in women’s boxing from the 140 through 154-pound classes, including Christy Martin, Mary Jo Sanders, Mia St. John, Jane Couch, Duda Yankovich and Chevelle Hallback (twice).
Mathis is riding a 22-fight win streak, dating back to 1995 when she lost in her second pro fight, and she’s a two-time world light welterweight champion. December 2nd will mark the fifth anniversary of her first world title victory, in which she stopped previously unbeaten Myriam Lamare (13-0) for the WBA crown as well as the vacant EBU championship.
