ISAAC CHILEMBA SIGNS PROMOTIONAL CONTRACT WITH MAIN EVENTS

ISAAC CHILEMBA (r) photo by Keisha Morrisey
Main Events announced today that they have signed an exclusive promotional contract with South African light heavyweight Isaac Chilemba, 20-2-2, 9 KOs. The 26 year old Chilemba was born in Malawi and has fought the majority of his bouts in South Africa.
Nicknamed "Golden Boy", Chilemba turned professional in 2005, and won several African titles during his eight years in the ring as a 168 and 175 pounder. Chilemba's collection of championships include the African Boxing Union super middleweight title, the WBO Africa light heavyweight title, African Boxing Union light heavyweight title, WBC International light heavyweight title, the IBO super middleweight title, and the WBC International light heavyweight title.
Chilemba holds victories over perennial contender Edison Miranda (W10), then-undefeated Maxim Vlassov (W10), and dangerous trial horse Rayco Saunders (W8), all in the United States. In his last two bouts, Chilemba went 24 rounds in the UK with Liverpool Bomber Tony Bellew (D12, L12), in bouts for the WBC Silver light heavyweight title.
With his excellent international experience and solid record, Chilemba is likely to quickly break into the talented top-tier of the current light heavyweight scene.
Chilemba said, "I am pleased to be with Main Events and I look forward to getting back in the ring. Everything happens for a reason."
"Isaac gave Maxim Vlasov, Thomas Oosthuizen and Doudou Ngumbu their first loss. All three are world rated fighters today. Also, arguably, he should hold one win over Tony Bellew, as they fought to a draw in Liverpool earlier this year . Isaac's most impressive fights occurred during times when he was very active. We believe that the combination of activity and the exposure he will receive fighting on the NBC Sports Network will create the right environment to bring out his full potential," said promoter Kathy Duva. "We are excited to work with Isaac, his manager, our long time friend, Damian Ramirez, and his co-manager, Jodi Soloman."
Chilemba is expected to make his first start under the Main Events banner before the end of the year.

CURTIS "SHOWTIME" STEVENS SIGNS PROMOTIONAL CONTRACT WITH MAIN EVENTS

Main Events announced today that they have signed middleweight hopeful Curtis "Showtime" Stevens to an exclusive promotional contract. Stevens, born and bred in Brownsville, Brooklyn, NY, has a strong amateur pedigree, a solid professional record of 23-3, 17 KOs, and is a hot commodity after his most recent bout.
Stevens needed less than one round to finish off the seasoned and usually-durable Elvin Ayala last month in a nationally televised fight for the Vacant NABF Middleweight Title. Stevens brutally handled Ayala, dropping him twice in the opening round to send the message that he is ready to take on the best of the 160-pound division. It was the second consecutive first round knockout for Stevens, who halted Romaro Johnson after just 2:16, last March in his first middleweight bout.
After trimming down from the super middleweight division, Stevens is in the best shape of his life, and the move seems to have raised his game to a whole new level.
Stevens feels he now has the right tools to dominate the division. He expressed, "Everybody on your team isn't always in your corner, but now I'm signed to Main Events, and I have a great team in my corner. I had 2 years off and now I'm back. Now I'm going to take over the middle weight division. All glory be to God."

Stevens began boxing professionally in 2004 and reeled off thirteen straight wins to start his career. Among his victims in that opening streak was former world champion Carl Daniels. "Showtime" went on to defeat undefeated Pitor Wilczewski by knockout, and well as road warriors Dhafir Smith and Darnell Boone by decision.
Now with two explosive middleweight victories in his pocket and two Top-10 world rankings to his credit, #8 WBC and #10 IBF, Stevens is poised to make a run to the top of the division.
Main Events, whose NBC SPORTS NETWORK boxing series FIGHT NIGHT kicked off its second season with the Stevens-Ayala bout, has created an effective platform where hungry fighters can build and advance their boxing careers. Curtis Stevens took advantage of the opportunity to use the popular series as a springboard to a world title.
Kathy Duva, Main Events CEO, said, "Curtis has the potential to go all the way. He has power, skills, and miles of personality. His stunning first round KO of Elvin Ayala on NBC Fight Night in January made quite a statement and we listened. We are so pleased to make Curtis part of the Main Events family and look forward to having much success together."

“HEAVYWEIGHTS COLLIDE” Tomasz Adamek vs. Eddie Chambers in Newark, NJ; FINAL PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES

June 16th NBC Sports Network Fight Night card at Newark’s Prudential Center features Tomasz Adamek vs. Eddie Chambers. Co-featured on the card will be Bryant Jennings vs. Steve Collins, Garrett, Indiana, 25-1,18 KO’s. The NBCSN broadcast will begin at 9PM ET. Co-featured on the card will be fellow heavyweights Bryant Jennings vs. Steve Collins. Between the main event and the co-feature, Curtis Stevens takes on Marcus Upshaw in a middleweight battle. The NBCSN broadcast will begin at 9PM ET.The card is presented by Main Events in association with Peltz Boxing, Ziggy Promotions and Goossen Tutor Promotions.

Eddie Chambers – “If you had the chance to see Fight Night 36 last night you’ll see I’m working extremely hard. Me and my team came together and decided that we really need to go up to Detroit, one of the tougher boxing areas in the country. We actually went to the legendary Kronk gym, where it’s like 150 degrees every day, like training in a sauna literally. But I think that’s the kind of thing we needed to do, we need to prepare that way because I am pretty sure Tomasz is going to bring a lot of heat inside the ring. I think that all the work we did was the perfect setting for what we are going to see in the main event on Saturday night.. It’s going to be a fun night. I think Tomasz has worked very hard, I know I have, you’ve seen it.” “My first thought was that I should not fight Adamek for my first fight back after 14 months off, but then I talked with my friends and trainers and we decided that this would be a good move for me. Show everyone right away that I am back and that I mean business.”

Tomasz Adamek – “I sparred close to 100 rounds in training camp which is a lot of rounds for me. I want to show Eddie some of the stuff I was working on for the last 3 weeks of our training camp. Eddie is saying how fast and untouchable he will be. I will be just as fast as him.” “I want to fight another two to three years and it’s easier to stay healthy when you are winning. I like the fact that my fights are being shown by both us (NBC Sports Network) and Polish TV. This proves alot of people still want to watch me and there is no reason to think about ending my career.”

“Everybody is waiting for Saturday. I am ready 100%. We had a good camp. I will give a good show Saturday night. I know that Eddie is a very good fighter. He’s lost only 2 fights, like me, and this is why he took the risk fighting me, but it was a mistake.”

UNDEFEATED MIDDLEWEIGHT JOHN “APOLLOKIDD” THOMPSON STEPS IT UP SATURDAY NIGHT AGAINST JOHN MACKEY Thompson to battle Mackey on Adamek v Chambers under

This Saturday night at the Prudential Center, undefeated Middleweight prospect John “ApolloKidd” Thompson will look to make it 9-0 when he takes on the toughest and most experience foe of his career in John Mackey

Thompson, twenty-three years old of Newark and Mackey will fight a six round bout at the Prudential Center as part of the undercard that will feature Tomasz Adamek and Eddie Chambers on NBC Sports Network.

Mackey of Montgomery, Alabama has a record of 13-6-3 with six knockouts has wins over the likes of Tim Leonard (3-0-1); Tony Cygan (12-1) Alexander Mancea (7-1) & Donald Orr (15-0) and has faced the likes of Anthony Greenidge (12-1); Cecil McCalla (6-0); Derek Ennis (17-2-1); James McGirt Jr. (21-2-1) and Tarvis Simms (26-1-1).

Mackey has draws with Jesse Nicklow (19-1-1) and his last bout on October 7th when he drew with Vladine Biosse (11-1) in Biosse’s home area of Providence.

Thompson is not worried about the experience that Mackey brings to the table.

“He is not much of a boxer, he is a brawler/puncher”, said Thompson

“I am going to work hard to prove that I am the better boxer.”

Thompson is looking forward to facing the veteran as it should be a coming out performance.

“This is a fight that should open doors. He is ranked twenty-two and I am at sixty-three”

It should be a great atmosphere on Saturday as usually tens of thousands pack the Prudential Center for an Adamek fight and Thompson is looking forward to putting on a show in his hometown.

“This is the biggest event I have been on and I consider the Prudential Center the MGM Grand of the East Coast. It is going to be a great experience and I will put on as great of a show as I can”

Thompson is promoted by Gabe Laconte’s First Round Promotions and is managed by Vito Mielnicki.

“My boxer is ready and focused on becoming a world champ in the near future and this is another step towards the top”, said Mielnicki

Zab Judah: “I’m 22 years old again”

Jerry Glick reporting: Zab Judah is a Brooklyn bred fighter. Born and raised there, but in fact, he has never fought in his home town as a pro. That will all change when he steps into the ring on Main Event’s talent rich show at the borough’s storied former airbase, Floyd Bennett Field; the home of the venue for this show, The Aviator. He will face unbeaten Vernon Paris, 26-0 (15 KOs), March 24th, on NBC Sports Network in an IBF junior-welterweight eliminator to determine who will fight the winner of the Amir Khan-Lamont Peterson rematch.

Also scheduled to fight will be heavyweights Tomasz Adamek, and Siarhei Liakhovich, as well as rugged super-middleweight Curtis Stevens and crafty middleweight Tarvis Simms.

Zab, 41-7 (28 KOs), talked to the media by phone on Tuesday and said that he is not looking back at the Khan fight. That he has regrouped and is ready to beat, the young, 24 year old, Paris. At 34 Judah is ten years older and, he says, wiser. He added that he still feels young. “I’m excited again,” said Zab with youthful enthusiasm. “I’m 22 years old again and I promise that I will give you guys the excitement that I gave you guys when I was 22 years old.”

Still trained by the great Pernell Whitaker, Judah said that training is going well, “It’s going great. We have a lot of young undefeated professionals that I’m sparring with. I’m preparing myself as though I was fighting one of the greatest fighters.”

Boxing in Brooklyn for the first time will be a great opportunity for Judah. After 48 pro fight, he will finally box in his home town. “It’s the first time that I will be fighting in Brooklyn as a professional,” said Judah. “It’s a great feeling. The last time I fought in Brooklyn, New York was the Golden Glove.”

He insisted that the punch that ended his fight with Khan was not a legal a body shot, as the referee ruled, but a low blow. “How would anybody know what me and my testicles are going through?” asked Zab. “People make an assumption. It kind of hurts your feelings. You say I got hit with a low blow and they say it was a body shot. A body shot? First of all did you see my body? It was as hard as a brick. Khan is not a knockout puncher. It was a borderline low blow that jammed the cup up into my testicles. It bothers me when people say (these things). People who know me know that I have a heart like a lion.”

Judah understands the opportunity that his fight with Paris is providing him with. “This is an eliminator fight to get me back to where I should be and to where I need to be right now.”

Judah has come back from disaster before. He has the ability to re-invent himself; “to pick himself up, dust himself off and start all over again,” to paraphrase the late reggae singer Peter Tosh. Judah refuses to look back at losses and wants to focus on this fight and the future. This ability may very well be what allows him to keep going when others might become discouraged. A pretty good quality in any endeavor; probably more remarkable in a boxer.
