Is Richard Pierson The Most Feared Super Middleweight Out There?

In addition to his consistency within the ring, one thing that stands out in super middleweight Richard Pierson’s career is the number of fights that continue to fall through for the rising star.

Last week Pierson was supposed to go to battle for the WBC FECARBOX Super Middleweight Title, but never had a chance to throw a punch as three opponents fell through.

First it was Gary Jones, then David Adotey Alottey, and last Aaron ‘Homicide’ Mitchell…all three planned to throw hands with Pierson, but when it came time to step up to the plate, no fighter followed through due to various reasons.

Throughout his career Pierson has faced his share of adversity inside the squared circle and having fights fall through, yet the emerging super middleweight has stayed focused and determined to work towards a world title shot.

Early on he found himself on the grand stage atop boxing’s Mecca’s in Vegas and Atlantic City, thrown into the ring as an ‘opponent’, and regularly coming out the victor.

“Everything happens for a reason,” said Pierson. “Gary Jones has a record of 22 wins and 2 losses; he had no reason to pull out. I believe he was coming out to challenge me but he just couldn't make the 168 pound limit. Danil of Ghana has 18 wins, 8 by KO and 2 losses; he made it to America but sadly he suffered a very bad cut above his left eye during his last sparring session. Aaron Mitchell is 27-1 with 21 KO and is no chump; he didn't pull out. Something went wrong with his meds. None of the fighters I was supposed to fight pulled out; it just wasn't in God’s plan for me to compete for the belt that night. My future isn't made by man so I leave it all in God's hands.”

Pierson prides himself on his fast and heavy hands, and has never stepped into the ring against an opponent with a losing record, something few fighters can say.

“I stay focused with the strength of my children and the positive people that are around me. Of course I would love to have had fought for the WBC FECARBOX Title and walked into my house with it but things happen. I am not upset nor did the cancellation of my fight affect me. I am still happy to even have the WBC look at me and give a chance; it shows me all my hard work is starting to pay off. I love boxing and finally boxing is starting to show me love back. I will have the belts when it’s my time.”

“This kid cannot get a fight,” said Lou Esa, former heavyweight fighter and Pierson’s manager. “We got guys who agree to fight him, but then they end up falling through. He’s a fierce puncher. Four times he was named the ‘B’ opponent, and each time he knocked out the ‘A’ fighter. Now everybody calls him ‘the career killer’. We are trying to get an opponent now for him for July 27 on ESPN.”

Jersey’s Top Middleweights Take Action April 18 in Newark

Two of New Jersey’s top middleweight prospects will be stepping between the ropes at the Robert Treat Hotel in Newark on April 18.

Paterson native Richard Pierson (9-2, 7 KO) will be headlining this card stacked full of local and up-and-coming talent against an opponent to be named, and Newark’s own and undefeated rising star John Thompson (6-0, 2 KO) will be looking to extend his unblemished record to 7-0 as he goes to battle against Jamond Bourgeois.

Both fighters are coming off wins February 17 at Nutley High School, in impressive fashion. In his first appearance back in the ring following a near 20-month layoff, Pierson landed a devastating right hand to Anibal Acevedo’s ribs which ended the fighter’s night early.

On the same card Thompson picked Laureano Laracuente apart for the first three rounds of the fight before the fighter was unable to come out for the fourth and final round.

Recently the middleweight prospects both signed with First Round Promotions, and are eager to move forward with their careers in 2012.

If they continue to progress and rise through the ranks of their respected divisions, both potentially have a chance to fight for a belt by the end of the year.

To complete the action packed fight card, also stepping between the ropes April 18 are:

· Bantamweight Qa’id Muhammad (6-0, 5 KO) vs. Steven Johnson (7-4, 4 KO)

· Featherweight Joseliz Cepeda (5-2) vs. Antton Slaughter (3-1-1, 1 KO)

· Light Welterweight Mike Concepcion will make his pro debut vs. Gerald Fisher (1-3)

· Welterweight Tommy Rainone (17-4, 4 KO) vs. TBD

· Heavyweight Aaron Kich (2-0-1, 1 KO) vs. Clyde Daniels

· Super Middleweight Leandro Acevedo will be making his pro debut vs. Marcus Clay (0-1)

Super Middleweight Joel De La Paz (6-0, 4 KO) vs. TBD

FIRST ROUND PROMOTIONS PIERSON & THOMPSON READY TO ROLL ON APRIL 18TH IN NEWARK

On Wednesday night April 18th, Gabe LaConte’s First Round Promotions in association with Greg Cohen Promotions presents a great night of boxing at the Beautiful Robert Treat Hotel in downtown Newark.

Two of the star members of LaConte’s growing stable Richard Pierson and undefeated John Thompson will be in the main event and co-main event respectively and will be looking to make big statements on the night of the 18th.

Pierson, thirty-one years of Paterson, New Jersey has a record of 10-2 with seven knockouts and looked like he didn’t miss a beat after a twenty month layoff when he took out Anibal Acevedo in one round this past February 17th in Nutley, New Jersey.

Pierson now feels with LaConte behind him that he has a chance to make a lot noise in his career.

“I felt good and I was a little rusty because of the inactivity”, said Pierson.

“I was happy that I won but I wasn’t satisfied as I wanted and needed rounds because I didn’t even spar a lot for the fight.”

Pierson will take on Joshua Snyder (9-6-1, 3 KO’s) of Berlin, MD

“I always never know much about my opponent. I am not bothered by it. It’s almost like fighting in the streets. You never know when you will get into a street fight and it’s kind of like the same thing as I don’t watch much tape anyway. I can’t complain how things are going, I know I will have an opponent and it doesn’t matter. The only guy I won’t fight is Mike Tyson”

Besides LaConte, Pierson has Lou Esa and Vito Mielnicki as part of the team.

“I have known Vito for years. I met him at the gym. Vito and Lou really take care of me and I know they really care about their fighters. Vito makes sure we are training and you don’t see that a lot and unlike a lot of people in this business, Vito has given me no false promises”

Thompson will take on Jamond Bourgeos (4-1, 1 KO) in a six round Middleweight bout.

The twenty-three year old former amateur standout from Newark is known as “The Apollo Kid” has been perfect in his six outing and notched his second knockout on February 17th when he took care of Laureano Laracuente in three rounds.

“I feel great and I am making progress in every fight”, said Thompson.

“Right now I have been building my name and I feel like a local celebrity.”

“In my last bout, I did what I had to do and I feel good about my performance. For this fight I have seen Jamond. I know he holds his hands up and just swings. I know I am on a whole different caliber. Anybody can just go in there in swing where I come with a lot skill”

“Vito Mielnicki and Gabe LaConte have moved me well. They have been keeping me active and it’s been great so far and I look forward to see what the future holds”

Those are just two of the bouts of a loaded night of boxing:

In a six round Bantamweight bout, Qa’id Muhammad (6-0, 5 KO’s) of Atlantic City, New Jersey takes on Steven Johnson (7-4, 4 KO’s) of St. Joseph, Missouri

Tommy Rainone (17-4, 4 KO’s) of New York takes on Josh Hammaock (9-8, 6 KO’s) of Fort Smith, Arkansas in a six round Welterweight bout.

Mike Concepcion of Newark will make his pro debut against an opponent to be named in a four round Jr. Welterweight bout.

Aaron Kinch (2-0-1, 1 KO) of Newark will take on an opponent to be named in a four round Heavyweight affair.

Leandro Acevedo of Newark will make his pro debut against Marcus Clay (0-1) of Baton Rouge, LA in a four round Super Middleweight fight.

Joseliz Cepeda (5-2) of Newark will take on an opponent to be named in a four round Super Featherweight bout.

Joel De La Paz (6-0, 4 KO’s) will return after a sixteen month absence against an opponent to be named in a four round Super Middleweight bout.

Middleweight Prospect Richard Pierson’s Upcoming April 18 Bout‏

Tickets Now Available For Middleweight Prospect Richard Pierson’s Upcoming April 18 Bout

Team Pierson has announced that tickets for middleweight prospect Richard Pierson are now available. Pierson will be stepping back into the ring April 18 at the Robert Treat Hotel in Newark, NJ, fresh off an impressive KO victory.

On February 17, Pierson (10-2, 7 KO) finished off Anibal Acevedo with a devastating right hand to the ribs at the end of the first round in his first fight back following an 18-month layoff.

“It felt good to be back in the ring, but feels even better to have a team,” said Pierson about his recent victory.

Throughout his career Pierson has dealt with his share of adversity and having fights fall through, yet he has stayed focus and determined to work towards a world title shot.

“The way I stay focused is that I keep my faith in God, and I stay around positive people,” said Pierson. “Boxing is life, and before you can get into that ring, you have to be mentally stable. You can’t get into the ring and have any doubt or concern for anything. So before I lace up the gloves, I make sure my household is safe and stable, and the people that surround me and care about me are happy. That is what really affects me and keeps me focused.”

Pierson has established himself as a top middleweight fighter with serious implications on making a title run by the end of 2012.

“I feel good about the upcoming fight; I’m hoping that nothing happens like it has in the past, where the fight falls through last minute,” said Pierson. “I’m working hard and training camp is going great, and I want to be able to get out there and work.”

Richard Pierson has waited patiently for his chance to shine. From day one all he has wanted to do is step between the ropes and have a fair shot, and although he has been thrown to the wolves countless times to simply be an opponent against “A” fighters, Pierson has rose above.

Pierson has caught the attention and respect of fellow fighters due to his unrelenting work ethic, determination and drive to excel in what he does.

Outside the ring Pierson is a dedicated student and full-time father, striving to give his children a better life. Quiet and humble, Pierson goes about life one day at a time, creating and seizing opportunities at will.

And for the first time in his career, Pierson has had a solid team around him to give him a full time training camp.

“It means a lot to have the resources around me and the people willing to put the time in,” said Pierson. “I am going to make the most of it, and it will show when I step between the ropes April 18.”

LaMANNA REMAINS UNDEFEATED WITH WILD 3RD ROUND STOPPAGE TO HIGHLIGHT 8 BOUT CARD NOW AVAILABLE ON GFL

This past Friday night at Nutley High School, Thomas “Cornflake” LaManna returned to his childhood home and scored a third round stoppage over Daniel Crabtree to highlight an eight bout card that was promoted by Gabe LaConte’s First Round Promotions.

That fight plus an explosive seven bout undercard that featured upsets and knockouts can now be seen on-demand on www.gfl.tv for just $9.99 by clicking: http://www.gfl.tv/Events/Fight/Boxing/First_Round_Promotions__Pro_Boxing/1327

LaManna and Crabtree waged a spirited battle with the taller LaManna fighting well from both the inside and working behind a solid jab. Crabtree got in a few a hard shots that the twenty-year old LaManna walked through and even inspired him to go toe to toe. In the pivotal third round LaManna landed a huge flurry of punches that had referee Randy Neumann stop the fight at 2:30 of round three. The trainer of Crabtree then jumped in the ring and had a few heated words for Neumann. Members from both camps tried to calm the situation before a near riot erupted in the ring before cooler heads prevailed.

LaManna is now 7-0 with five knockouts.

In the co-feature Richard Pierson returned from a year and a half hiatus by stopping Anibal Acevedo after the first round of a six round Super Middleweight bout.

Pierson dominated the action and landed a huge body shot at the end of the round. Acevedo went back to his corner in excruciating pain and the bout was stopped. Acevedo left the ring on a stretcher and was administered oxygen.

John Thompson remained perfect by scoring a stoppage over Laureno Laracuente after the third round of their four round Middleweight bout.

In a wild one round Heavyweight bout, John Lennox was shockingly sent to the deck just seconds into his six round bout with Miles Kelly. Lennox then regrouped to drop and knockout Kelly just eighty three seconds into the bout.

Godson Noel made a successful pro debut with a first round stoppage over Satchell James.

In a Mild upset, Jonathan Garcia scored a majority decision over previously undefeated knockout artist Jose Javier Calderon

Top Middleweight Prospect Richard Pierson Ready For Battle February 17‏

Top Middleweight Prospect Richard Pierson Ready For Battle February 17

Paterson native and up-and-coming middleweight Richard Pierson will return to action Friday, February 17, 2012 as Gabe LaConte’s First Round Promotions presents a night of boxing at the Nutley High School in Nutley, New Jersey.

Following nearly a two-year layoff from the squared circle, Pierson (9-2, 6 KO) put on an impressive show in his comeback fight in June of 2010, stopping Reynaldo Rodriguez at 2:32 of the first round, handing the undefeated fighter his first loss. But the young fighter has had problems with fights falling through and getting cancelled last minute.

Having fights fall through has been somewhat of a regular thing for Pierson, through no fault of his own. Fighters and promoters have been avoiding the devastating puncher because in four fights he was supposed to be the “B” fighter, and he came in and knocked out the “A” fighter.

Along with his heavy hands, Pierson has caught the attention of boxing fans around the world because he has always stepped up to fight every time he was given the chance. To his credit, he has never faced an opponent with a losing record.

Although not having a set opponent would present an issue in training for some fighters, Pierson doesn’t allow it to affect him.

“I haven’t changed how I prepare for a fight,” said Pierson. “I train the way I always do; I focus on the win. It is unpredictable. I could have an opponent right now and a week before the fight that can change, so I just make sure that I’m in shape and able to go out there and do what I know I can do.”

Despite the problems Pierson has faced in the past with getting fights, this past year Pierson sought out the management of former heavyweight knockout artist and boxing trainer Lou Esa.

“Richard is probably one of the most devastating punchers I’ve ever worked with,” said Esa. “This kid can hit you with either hand that’ll put you on Queer Street. Just knowing a little bit about Richard has put me in a different state. He has 10 children. He takes care of them all by himself. When you look up father in the dictionary, you see a picture of Richard Pierson. He shows that kind of determination inside the boxing ring. He is determined to win a championship, and I think he will. This kid is not going away silently; in fact he isn’t going away at all. He is someone to be reckoned with, and nobody wants to fight him now.”

In his young career Pierson has fought at top level venues, including the MGM Grand Casino in Las Vegas, Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, and several others.

When asked if he felt he had an advantage since he has always fought tougher competition, Pierson responded, “The thing with the tougher competition, it’s the same way I look at this fight coming up. I go out there to fight, and look at each fighter as a human being, just like I am. To me it doesn’t matter who you have fought or where you have fought…it depends on what you are bringing to the table. But I don’t think it was an advantage for me to be fighting on big stages early in my career. That’s one of the reasons why it has been so hard for me to get fights now.”

Going forward in 2012 Pierson hopes to stay active and consistently fight throughout the year.

The middleweight prospect currently trains at Ike and Randy’s gym in Paterson, New Jersey.

“Lastly I want to give a shot out to Lou Esa for being one of the only guys who was willing to take time out to try to get my career back and moving, and Maureen Shea, who always gave me great advice. She is the female champion, and always gives me great advice and showed me the right way to go, and always kept me level-headed. There were times that I’ve gotten down in boxing, and she is the one who brought me back. With the two of them I believe my career is going to go on and my life is going to go how it should be. And thanks to Blockstarzzent for getting my photo up on the promo flier for the fight.”
