FLOYD "MONEY" MAYWEATHER IS "THE ONE" AFTER DAZZLING PERFORMANCE AGAINST CANELO ALVAREZ SATURDAY ON SHOWTIME PPV® Danny "Swift" Garcia Outblasts Lucas "The Machine" Matthysse In Co-Main Event In Front Of Nearly 17,000 Fans At The MGM Grand Garden Arena In Las Vegas

Floyd Mayweather truly is "THE ONE."
The undisputed, pound-for-pound champion put on a clinic against Mexican sensation Canelo Alvarez, handing the 23-year-old superstar his first loss in the toughest test of his career Saturday on SHOWTIME PPV at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
Canelo (42-1-1, 30 KO's) fought with everything he had, but couldn't solve the puzzle of Floyd Mayweather.  Mayweather showcased his signature speed and elusiveness in front of a largely pro-Canelo crowd of 16,746 fans en route to a majority decision (114-114, 116-112, 117-111).
For the night's work, Mayweather collected a guaranteed $41.5 million and Canelo's WBC, WBA and Ring Magazine Super Welterweight Championships.
"It's all about skills," Mayweather said.  "I came out tonight and showed my skills.  But a true champion like Canelo can take a loss and bounce back.
"My dad had a brilliant game plan.  I executed that game plan.  I could have pressed it and got the late stoppage, but tonight experience played a major key.  Tonight was just my night."
After the fight, a seemingly frustrated Canelo admitted that Mayweather's skills and style of fighting were too much to overcome.
"He's very elusive, he's a great fighter and that's why I couldn't catch him," Canelo said.  "I didn't know how to get him.  It's as simple as that.  He's very elusive.  He's a great fighter.
"The frustration was getting in there. But simply he's a great fighter.  I didn't want to lose.  I didn't want to leave here with a loss.  But it happens and it hurts."
After calling Mayweather's dominating performance SHOWTIME PPV play-by-play announcer Al Bernsteinhad an insightful observation about young superstar, "Canelo may be the fighter of tomorrow, but he's not quite yet the fighter of today."
In the highly anticipated co-main event of the evening, Danny Garcia retained the unified super lightweight world title with an impressive performance against the favored Lucas Matthysse.Utilizing solid combinations and body shots, Garcia executed a solid game plan en route to a unanimous decision (115-111, 114-112, twice).
Matthysse (34-3, 32 KO's) entered the fight having knocked out five of his last six opponents and a reputation as one of the most feared punchers on the planet.  But the Argentinean knockout artist's power wasn't as apparent against the aggressive Garcia (27-0, 16 KO's), who silenced his doubters and defended his WBC, WBA and Ring Magazine Super Lightweight World Titles.
Seemingly down on points, Matthysse came out with a vengeance in the eleventh to kick off the championship rounds, knocking Garcia's mouthpiece out with a powerful straight right.  But, after a brief pause to recover the mouthpiece, Garcia bounced back and floored Matthysse for the first time in his career.
"I'm the champion of the world," said the proud Philadelphia native.  "The champion of the world isn't scared of anyone.  If you can make it out Philly you can make it out of anywhere.
"The only way to slow him down was to go down to the body and throw combinations upstairs.  I just let my hands go."
Garcia landed a straight jab to Garcia's right eye in the seventh round that completely closed the eye within 45 seconds.  Garcia continued, but did so with a comprised depth perception.
"I only had one eye for half of the fight but, it's no excuse," Matthysse said.  "He fought a great fight.  He's a great champion and we knew he wasn't intimidated by my punching."
In the first of three world championship bouts on the telecast, Carlos Molina dethroned defending champion Ishe Smith, capturing the IBF Junior Middleweight World Championship with a split decision victory (112-116, 116-112, 111-117).
In the opening bout of the PPV telecast, Pablo Caesar Cano (27-3-1, 20 KO's) scored a split-decision victory (97-93, 98-92 Cano, 96-94 Theophane) over Ashley Theophane (33-6-1, 10 KO's).
The Mayweather-Canelo and Garcia-Matthysse bouts will air in the delayed broadcast on Saturday, Sept. 21 at 9 p.m. ET / PT (delayed on the West Coast).
Brian Kenny served as host of the SHOWTIME PPV telecast with Mauro Ranallo calling the action, Al Bernstein and Paulie Malignaggi serving as expert analysts with Jim Gray and Heidi Androl reporting.  The telecast was produced by David Dinkins, Jr., with Bob Dunphy directing.

FLOYD MAYWEATHER MEDIA DAY QUOTES & PHOTOS‏

FLOYD MAYWEATHER MEDIA DAY IN LAS VEGAS
'MONEY': 'I WAS BORN FOR THIS'

EIGHT-TIME, FIVE-DIVISION WORLD CHAMPION PUTS ON
A SHOW AS HE CONTINUES TO WRAP UP
FINAL PREPARATIONS FOR HIS
MEGA-SHOWDOWN AGAINST CANELO ALVAREZ
SATURDAY, SEPT. 14 AT MGM GRAND ON SHOWTIME PPV®
FLOYD MAYWEATHER
"This was just a light workout today; it was cool. I appreciate all the media coming out and the fans for supporting me throughout my career. It's been truly a blessing.
"I think I'll be a lot sharper for this fight. My training camp has been great. Actually, this is one of my best training camps I've had, probably since 2005. On my first day back, I got right back into sparring. I think I sparred seven rounds. So as of now, my training camp's been smooth. My dad is happy, Leonard (Ellerbe) is happy, Al (Haymon) is happy and I'm happy. I've been boxing a lot of rounds so I'm sharp. I'm in great condition and happy to get right back in there. I feel tremendous.
"My weight is made. I came into training camp weighing 150 or 149 and I came into the gym today probably weighing 150 or 149.
"Canelo is a solid competitor but it is what it is: I've faced the best in this sport, I know what it takes to be involved in a fight of this magnitude and I'm dedicated to my craft. I was born for this.
"This is a great matchup. He's a puncher. I'm a sharp boxer. You know, a lot of times I hit these guys and I make them go into survival mode. Even in the Robert Guerrero fight I was looking for the knockout, but I hurt my hand. So I wasn't impressed with myself -- because I didn't get the knockout. This time around, I'll be looking for the knockout.
"He's banking on his youth, I'm banking I on my experience. I have a lot of experience in championship fights. Look at his resume, look at my resume and see what you come up with.
"I can't talk about the past, but I can talk about the present time and I can talk about the future. The present time is, I'm undefeated, and the future is, I'm going to continue to work hard and give the fans what they want to see.
"On Sept. 14, I just want everybody around the world to tune in and enjoy a great night of boxing.''
(More on facing Canelo)
"He's no pushover; I can't overlook him. I just have to go out and execute the game plan and do what I do best. Nothing worries me. I can make adjustments.
"He is one of the best in boxing at this particular time. He's young and strong. He's got guts so we'll see how the fight plays out.
"It's not about the weight, it's about the skills. The skills pay the bills.  I can't wait to get in there and compete and test my skills against this young guy. I feel good, I'm still hungry.'
(On Canelo's opposition)
"Did Canelo KO Austin Trout? This is a whole different ballgame. He may be predicting a knockout but all you have to do is look at the opponents he's faced.  I really don't know too many, but a lot of the guys went the distance with him. And we're not just talking about A-fighters but D- and C-fighters. Guys that he should have knocked out in the fourth round, they were able to go into the eighth and ninth rounds even though they were caught with numerous shots.'
"I don't think Ricky Hatton's brother is on the level of a Floyd Mayweather.''
(On notion that Canelo will stop him)
"Oscar said he was gonna knock me out also. Did you see what happened in that fight? People are entitled to do their opinion. People are going to say what they're going to say. My job is to be the best I can be and continue to do my job. There's a reason I do record-breaking numbers.
"My last fight against Guerrero, he thought it was just gonna be easy. A lot of times people, fighters, look from the outside and think to themselves, 'this can't be that difficult,' but once they get inside that squared circle with me it's totally different.''
(Gameplan)

"I'm going to show him a lot of angles.  I have a lot of experience, and experience is going to be a factor. It's going to be real, real different for him at this level.''
(On Canelo's Popularity)
"Among Hispanic/Mexican/Latin fighters, I don't really know who has the biggest following but if I had to say so, I would say probably (Juan Manuel) Marquez because he has accomplished more and done a lot for the sport of boxing. So I don't support the thought (or subscribe to the feeling) that Canelo has a bigger following than (Marquez).''
(On why Canelo took this fight)
"I can't really say. Of course, sometimes some people want their No 1 spot, not just No. 1 in (their)  weight class but they want to be known as the best in their sport. They want all the attention, the  paydays, the money. (For me) this took years and years of hard work and dedication, belief and a strong team.''
(His hands)
"I went to three different doctors after the Guerrero fight. Everything is OK.''
(Staying ahead of the game)
"Every guy I face is always heavier. I think I'm just a very, very sharp fighter. I stay mentally sharp; by that I mean I stay five or six steps ahead of my opponents. This is chess, not checkers. These are moves you have to think about. At this level, you've got to get 10 steps ahead of your opponent."
(On what it takes to remain at the top)
"You've got to be mentally tough, push yourself to the limit, be physically sharp, have a great chin and a tremendous heart.''
(The ONE 10-city media tour)
"The tour was wild, crazy. It started in New York and ended in Los Angeles. I think it was great for me, Canelo Alvarez, the chance to embrace the fans and also to get the chance to go to Mexico. I have a lot of fans in Mexico.''
(Fighters that impress him)
"I like Leo Santa Cruz. He's unbelievable. I think he should be on the pound-for-pound list.''
(On Garcia-Matthysse)
"Both fighters at 140 pounds are really tough punchers and great fighters. I can't see it going the distance.''
(Still The ONE)
"I'm the face of boxing and I'm happy that I was able to transcend and change the sport in a totally different way. At one particular time in the late 70's, 80's and all the way to the 90's, it was all about the heavyweights. Then I came in and brought attention to the smaller guys.  I think I've done a lot for the sport of boxing, and boxing has done a lot for me.''
LEONARD ELLERBE, CEO of Mayweather Promotions
"This is the fight that the fans wanted. They demanded it, and this is the fight that Floyd wanted. In my opinion, this fight will be the biggest in the history of the sport.
"Canelo fought on a few of our undercards. We know what he brings to the table. He is a tremendous fighter, he is the biggest star in Mexico and he has a tremendous following. Floyd has a lot of Mexican fans, too. He loves Mexico. Mexicans are intelligent fans. They know the sport of boxing. Floyd has defeated a number of Mexican fighters and he has a tremendous amount of respect for their history and their fighters.
"I think now is the right time for this fight to happen. Canelo is coming off a big victory with Austin Trout and Floyd with Guerrero. This is The ONE.
"An active Floyd Mayweather ... WOW."
ISHE SMITH, IBF Junior Middleweight Champion
"It's been an amazing last six months. I was honored with an "Ishe Smith Day.'' It's been a rollercoaster ride for me since the days of The Contender and it was tough, and it hurt, but to be a world champion now and have Floyd behind me is just really exciting. I am blessed.
"One thing Floyd told me: 'I can get you to the door but then it is up to you. On Sept. 14 (when he defends against Carlos Molina), this is another opportunity where he shows me the door.
"And like I did in Detroit (when he won the title over Cornelius Bundrage), I plan on knocking that door down again."
ASHLEY THEOPHANE, Former Brisith Junior Welterweight Champion who faces Pablo Cesar Cano in opening bout of pay-per-view telecast
"You know this has been my dream since I was five years old. I watched Mike Tyson and Sugar Ray Leonard and was inspired by them. It's been an amazing journey. America has opened up and welcomed me as well as the Money Team.
"This is the biggest fight of my life, and I know I need to come out victorious. It is a magnificent card; you've got three world champions on there."

"THE ONE: MAYWEATHER VS. CANELO," a 12-round fight for Canelo's WBC, WBA and Ring Magazine Super Welterweight World Championships and Mayweather's WBA Super Welterweight Super World Championship taking place Saturday, Sept. 14 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, is promoted by Mayweather Promotions, Golden Boy Promotions and Canelo Promotions and sponsored by Corona, O'Reilly Auto Parts, AT&T, Valvoline, Mexico Tourism, Fred Loya Insurance and Nature Nutrition.  In the 12-round co-featured attraction, WBC, WBA Super and Ring Magazine Super Lightweight World Champion Danny Garcia and thunderous puncher WBC Interim Super Lightweight World Champion Lucas Matthysse square off in a fight presented in association with Swift Promotions and Arano Box Promotions.  Also, Ishe Smith vs. Carlos Molina square off in a 12-round battle for Smith's IBF Junior Middleweight World Title which is promoted in association with Warriors Boxing.  The opening bout on SHOWTIME PPV features a 10-round welterweight showdown between Pablo Cesar Cano and Ashley Theophane.  The mega-event will be produced and distributed live by SHOWTIME PPV® beginning at 9:00 p.m. ET/6:00 p.m. PT.  The event can be heard in Spanish using secondary audio programming (SAP).

SHAWN PORTER VS. JULIO DIAZ II TO HEADLINE "THE ONE: MAYWEATHER VS. CANELO" FIGHT WEEK CARD ON THURSDAY, SEPT. 12 AT MGM GRAND HOTEL & CASINO IN LAS VEGAS LIVE ON FOX SPORTS 2 & FOX DEPORTES

It's boxing's biggest week, an opportunity for the stars of entertainment and sports to descend on Las Vegas for "THE" fight of 2013, the championship showdown between unbeaten icons Floyd "Money" Mayweather
and Canelo Alvarez.  However, before the world turns its eyes to the MGM Grand Garden Arena to watch these two warriors collide Saturday, Sept. 14, Mayweather Promotions and Golden Boy Promotions kick off festivities two days earlier, on Thursday, Sept. 12, with a special three-and-a-half hour, action-packed broadcast on FOX Sports 2 and FOX Deportes from MGM Grand Las Vegas' Premier Ballroom.
It's the rematch fight fans have demanded, as unbeaten Shawn "Showtime" Porter faces former World Champion Julio "The Kidd" Diaz in the 10-round welterweight bout as the main event of the tripleheader.  The co-featured bout showcases Las Vegas up and comer Badou Jack as he takes on Mexico's Marco Antonio Periban and in the opener boxing's top prospects Julian "J-Rock" Williams faces Hugo "The Boss" Centeno Jr. in a 10-round junior middleweight clash.
Porter vs. Diaz II will take place on Thursday, September 12 at MGM Grand Las Vegas' Premier Ballroom located in the MGM Grand Conference Center on the third level.  The event is presented by Mayweather Promotions and Golden Boy Promotions and sponsored by Corona and O'Reilly Auto Parts.  Doors open at 5:00 p.m. PT on fight night and the first bell rings at 6:00 p.m. PT.  The FOX Sports 2/FOX Deportes broadcast airs live at 10:00 p.m. ET/7:00 p.m. PT.
Additionally, with the purchase of a ticket, fans will be given a reserved seat for the "THE ONE: Mayweather vs. Canelo" Official Weigh-In taking place Friday, September 13 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.  Fans will also receive a 10 percent discount on tickets for closed circuit viewing of the Mayweather vs. Canelo mega-event on Saturday, September 14.
"Two days before boxing's biggest night, this is the kind of event that will get things started off in the right way," said Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe. "There are three exciting and evenly matched fights on this card that will give fans another opportunity to enjoy an exciting night of boxing while they anticipate the outcome of who "The One" will be in Mayweather vs. Canelo."
"This is the perfect way to kick off the festivities for Mayweather vs. Canelo and I know all boxing fans will love this card," said Richard Schaefer, CEO of Golden Boy Promotions.  "Shawn Porter vs. Julio Diaz is a rematch the fighters and the fans demanded and as good as their first fight was, I think this one will be even better. In addition, we've got Marco Antonio Periban facing Badou Jack in an important super middleweight bout with title implications and there will definitely be fireworks between two of the sport's top prospects, Hugo Centeno Jr. and Julian Williams."
"Getting a full card of quality fights on FOX Sports 2 and FOX Deportes, tapping into the energy being created by the Mayweather vs. Canelo bout later in the week, is a strong offering," said FOX Sports SVP Programming & Research Patrick Crakes.  "We will continue to work with our partners at Golden Boy Promotions to put together packages for fight fans across the country."
"When I was approached with this rematch, there was no question in my mind about taking it," Porter said.  "We had a great fight the first time, but this time around I want a knockout. I'm looking to make a statement on September 12 and I will."
"I think I won the first fight and I'm not the only one who feels that way," Diaz said. "But I give Porter credit for agreeing to this rematch so we can settle things.  He's a good fighter, but on September 12, I'm going to prove that I'm better."
"Marco Antonio Periban is one of the top super middleweights in the world, and I respect him for his accomplishments," said Jack.  "This is the big fight I've wanted though, and I won't let this opportunity pass me by because when I win, I'll be one step closer to becoming a world champion."
"I believe I should be the super middleweight champion right now, but this is boxing," Periban said.  "So to get back to a title fight, I have to make sure I leave no doubts in my fights."  "Badou Jack is a good fighter with a bright future, but he's in my way and I have to remove him on September 12."
"This is the kind of fight that boxing needs, two undefeated fighters putting it all on the line and having the confidence to back up their talent," said Williams.  "Centeno's a tough guy and I know he's going to bring it on September 12, but I have more tools than he does and more ways to win and he's going to find that out once we're in the ring."
"I'm really excited about this fight and this event, because the world is going to be watching," Centeno Jr. said.  "We're both unbeaten and rising up the ladder, and this fight will prove who's going to keep going forward. I expect it to be me."
On December 15, 2012, Akron, Ohio's Shawn "Showtime" Porter (21-0-1, 14 KO's) looked to add the name of former World Champion Julio Diaz (40-8-1, 29 KO's) to his list of accomplishments, but the veteran from Coachella had other plans and the two went to battle for 10 exciting rounds before a draw verdict was rendered.  Since then, the 25-year-old Porter scored a dominant win over previously unbeaten Phil LoGreco and the 33-year-old Diaz gave Amir Khan all he could handle before losing a close decision, setting up the rematch the fighters and the fans wanted.
Coachella's Julio "The Kidd" Diaz (40-8-1, 29 KO's) may have initially made his mark in the lightweight division, where he won the IBF World Championship twice and defeated fighters like Javier Jauregui, Jesus Chavez and Ricky Quiles, but it appears that at welterweight, Diaz is even more dangerous.  After a yearlong layoff, Diaz is winner of two fights by knockout with the only blemishes coming in controversial bouts against Amir Khan and Shawn Porter.  Now, he looks to avenge his draw with Porter by defeating his unbeaten foe on September 12.
A 2008 Olympian for Gambia, Swedish-born Las Vegas resident Badou "The Ripper" Jack(15-0, 10 KO's) has become an international boxing sensation in recent years and the 29-year-old is just approaching his fighting prime.  A pro since 2009, Jack scored a third round knockout over Michael Gbenga on the undercard of his promoter Floyd Mayweather's fight against Robert Guerrero.  After his July 19 victory against Farah Ennis, "The Ripper" is looking for another quick finish on September 12.
Mexico City's Marco Antonio Periban (20-1, 13 KO's) looks to bounce back from his controversial majority decision loss to Sakio Bika in their June battle for the vacant WBC Super Middleweight Title by taking on undefeated young warrior Jack in a 10-round clash at 168 pounds.  The 28-year-old Periban is a crowd-pleasing battler who can do it all in the ring.
Opening the night of fights will be a rare meeting of undefeated top junior middleweight talents is another proud graduate of Philadelphia boxing's School of Hard Knocks, 23-year-old Julian "J-Rock" Williams (13-0-1, 7 KO's).  Having already faced a stellar level of competition thus far in his career, Williams stepped up even more in June when he faced former World Champion Joachim Alcine, dropping him three times en route to a unanimous decision victory.  On September 12, he meets fellow unbeaten Hugo Centeno Jr.
Oxnard, California's Hugo Centeno Jr. (19-0, 10 KO's) has spent time making his name known among 154-rising stars, with the 22-year-old scoring a near shutout of fellow prospect KeAndrae Leatherwood in March.  Now Centeno Jr. has the opportunity to make his record 20-0 when he faces Julian Williams on September 12.

UNDISPUTED SUPER LIGHTWEIGHT WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP MEGA-FIGHT DANNY "SWIFT" GARCIA VS. LUCAS MATTHYSSE ADDED AS CO-MAIN EVENT OF "THE ONE: MAYWEATHER VS. CANELO"

UNDISPUTED SUPER LIGHTWEIGHT WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP MEGA-FIGHT DANNY "SWIFT" GARCIA VS. LUCAS MATTHYSSE
ADDED AS CO-MAIN EVENT OF "THE ONE: MAYWEATHER VS. CANELO"

TWO OF THE MOST HIGHLY ANTICIPATED FIGHTS IN YEARS ON THE
SAME NIGHT; SATURDAY, SEPT. 14 AT THE MGM GRAND GARDEN ARENA
IN LAS VEGAS, LIVE ON SHOWTIME PPV®

Mayweather Promotions, Golden Boy Promotions and Canelo Promotions officially announced today that Undisputed Super Lightweight World Champion Danny "Swift" Garcia and WBC Interim Super Lightweight World Champion Lucas "The Machine" Matthysse will meet in a decisive bout which will anchor the undercard of the biggest boxing event in years, "THE ONE: Mayweather vs. Canelo" on Saturday, Sept. 14 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, live on SHOWTIME PPV®.

If Mayweather vs. Canelo is "THE ONE" fight for boxing fans worldwide, then the highly anticipated Garcia vs. Matthysse is "THE ONE-A." Garcia, the undefeated WBC, WBA Super and The Ring Magazine World Champion, has emerged as the division's dominant force over the last 18 months by dismantling world champions Amir Kahn, Zab Judah and Mexican legend Erik Morales twice. Matthysse burst on to the world stage in May by seizing the scoring an electrifying knockout of highly skilled World Champion Lamont Peterson. The third-round knockout of Peterson put the world on notice that Matthysse's power was to be feared and that The Machine was rising to the division's top spot.

Now, the fight that has been called potentially "mind blowing" (Yahoo! Sports), could steal the show of a mega-event headlined by the world's pound-for-pound king, Mayweather, and a young fighter who many have tapped as boxing's next global star, Canelo.

"This is the fight I wanted and the fight that I asked for. That is why I'm so happy this fight has been made and will be a part of this huge event," said Danny Garcia. "I'm more confident than ever in my abilities and I'm going to show it on September 14.  Matthysse is a good fighter and has a big punch, but I'm a talented fighter with what it takes to be a champion and stay that way. This is an opportunity for the world to see what I can really do in the ring."

"I'm glad I finally get a chance to fight Danny Garcia," said Lucas Matthysse. "This is the fight that the entire boxing world (especially my country Argentina) and I wanted. I want to thank my promoters Golden Boy Promotions and Mario Arano for making this fight possible. On September 14, I will show the world that I am the best 140 pound fighter on the planet."

"Floyd was adamant about giving fans what they wanted to see when he chose Canelo Alvarez as his opponent for his September 14 fight," said Leonard Ellerbe, CEO of Mayweather Promotions. "We're thrilled that Garcia vs. Matthysse has been added to the card, and that fans will be getting even more boxing at its best."

"The compelling match-up between Garcia and Matthysse could absolutely be its own main event," said Richard Schaefer, CEO of Golden Boy Promotions. "We've added another fight that fans have been clamoring for to an already stellar night of boxing. With the addition of this mega fight we are certain that "THE ONE" will continue to break boxing records."

"Boxing is at its finest when the best step up to fight the best, and this is what we have with Mayweather and Canelo and now Garcia and Matthysse," said President of Golden Boy PromotionsOscar De La Hoya. "September 14 will be one of the most memorable nights of boxing we have been treated to in a long time."

"Garcia vs. Matthysse is a fight fan's dream matchup," said Stephen Espinoza, Executive Vice President and General Manager, SHOWTIME Sports®. "It is a main event-quality fight by itself. To add it to what is already the biggest pay-per-view main event in years, makes the September 14 event the best PPV card in recent memory."

Garcia (26-0, 20 KO's) is a popular and crowd-pleasing fighter in the prime of his career. In his last start, the 25-year-old boxer-puncher registered one knockdown en route to successfully defending his 140-pound titles with a clear, hard-fought unanimous decision win over former Four-Time World Champion Judah on April 27 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. The victory over Judah continued Garcia's streak of sensational performances against high-profile opposition that began a year earlier when he defeated the legendary Morales the first time via a unanimous decision to capture the WBC world title. The following July, Garcia shocked Khan and the boxing world with a stunning fourth-round technical knockout of the British superstar to add the WBA Super and Ring Magazine World Championships to his collection. On Oct. 20, 2012, Garcia knocked Morales out with a hellacious left hook in the fourth round of their rematch. A 2008 U.S. Olympic Team alternate, Garcia is a physically strong, durable and determined young fighter who is poised and patient in the ring who has fought current or past world champions in his last six fights: Judah, Khan, Morales twice, Kendall Holt and Nate Campbell.

The demand for Garcia vs. Matthysse began immediately after Matthysse brutally knocked out Peterson, dropping him three times, this past May 18 in Atlantic City, N.J.

Matthysse (34-2, 32 KO's), who is rated No. 1 at 140 lbs. by The RING Magazine, has scored a staggering 94 percent of his wins by knockout, one of the highest KO percentages for a world champion in history. The 30-year-old hails from Trelew, Argentina and has won six fights in a row by knockout. In his last nine fights, he has fought five world champions defeating Peterson (TKO 3), Humberto Soto (TKO 5) and DeMarcus Corley (TKO 8) and losing extremely close, questionable 10-round split decisions against Devon Alexander and Judah in his opponents' home towns. Many observers think he deserved to win both of those fights. Matthysse, who constantly pressures his opponents and wears them down, was also a solid amateur boxer in his native Argentina.

"THE ONE: MAYWEATHER VS. CANELO," a 12-round fight for Canelo's WBC, WBA and Ring Magazine Super Welterweight World Championships and Mayweather's WBA Super Welterweight Super World Championship taking place Saturday, Sept. 14 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, is promoted by Mayweather Promotions, Golden Boy Promotions and Canelo Promotions and sponsored by Corona, O'Reilly Auto Parts, Valvoline, Mexico Tourism and Fred Loya Insurance. In the 12-round co-featured attraction, WBC, WBA Super and Ring Magazine Super Lightweight World Champion Danny Garcia and thunderous punching WBC Interim Super Lightweight World Champion Lucas Matthysse square off in a fight presented in association with Swift Promotions and Arano Box Promotions. The mega-event will be produced and distributed live by SHOWTIME PPV® beginning at 9:00 p.m. ET/6:00 p.m. PT. The event can be heard in Spanish using secondary audio programming (SAP).

What Mayweather and Canelo as well as executives Leonard EllerbeRichard Schaefer,Oscar De La HoyaStephen Espinoza and Canelo's trainer, Chepo Reynoso, said Monday:

Floyd Mayweather, Eight-Time And Five-Division World Champion

"Canelo, I appreciate you for taking this fight. Let's give the fans what they want to see on September 14.

"Mexico has produced some legendary champions. I take my hat off to them. I respect the country of Mexico, but something I've always enjoyed about the sport of boxing is that my fans can't fight for me and his fans can't fight for him.

"I'm truly thankful to the fans, without the fans I wouldn't be where I am.

"Golden Boy Promotions, we love working hand-in-hand with you guys. Mayweather Promotions, our company is still building. We've got young champions on the rise. I have to thank SHOWTIME; we're going to do some record-breaking things. I have to thank CBS. To all the executives, I want to thank you all for believing in me and my skills."

"I want to thank Canelo's fans, you guys have stood behind him. He's a true champion, a young, strong champion and he's earned his right to be up here with me. He's done something right to get to this level.

"I can't wait to go out there and perform. I'm about to go to camp. Physically I'm always ready, but I'm looking for an exciting fight on September 14.

"It has truly been an amazing ride. I'm blessed to be in the sport of boxing and be at the top for 17 years.

"There's no city like New York City. As a matter of fact, they should put a ring right here in Times Square and let us do it today.

"On September 14, all we want to do is give the fans excitement. That's what it's all about. I just want to give the fans a hell of a fight.

"Canelo is a young strong champion. He's obviously done something right to be at this level. He's a guy that I can't overlook. I've got to go out there and fight the best fight.

"When guys face me, it's a totally different level. I'm sure he's going to be in tip top condition and give the fans a great show.

"Come September 14, it's the best versus the best. 'THE ONE.' He's a guy I know I can't overlook, but I've been here before. I have a lot of experience. One thing I don't do is play into the crowd. I understand that this is my job. I know what it takes in a fight of this magnitude and I'm going to continue to dedicate myself to my craft and be the best that I can be. I dedicated my whole life to be at the pinnacle and to face the best.

"The earth is my turf. You can put me in any ring and I'll always come out victorious. The car won't stop now. Let's keep the car rolling. It's gong to be a hell of a fight on September 14."

Canelo Alvarez, Super Welterweight World Champion

"Good afternoon, New York. Thank you all for being here and for your support. With this fight, everybody's going to win. In boxing everybody has their time, and this is my time. Everybody knows that Floyd's the best without question, but it's my time. We're going to win.

"I'm younger and bigger, which are very important keys, but you must remember that Floyd is a very intelligent fighter, but I'm going to have the right game plan.

"Obviously, this is my biggest fight, but I've visualized it and I've prepared my mind for it for a while.

"I appreciate all the fans for all of their incredible support. I always have. I'm very gratified to be here today, to see this turnout and to have so many fans supporting for me. I'll be ready on September 14 and give them all what they want to see.''

Leonard Ellerbe, CEO, Mayweather Promotions

"We would like to thank each and every one of you for coming out today to support this tremendous event that we're having on September 14. We have a young, great fighter in Canelo Alvarez who thinks that he's 'THE ONE' going up against the best fighter in the world and who's been the best fighter in the world for a number of years. He is 'THE ONE.'

"This fight we feel will break records all over the world. The reason Floyd wanted to take this fight is because of you, the fans, and come September 14 that's what you will get, a great, great fight."

Richard Schaefer, CEO, Golden Boy Promotions

"Wow, New York, you did it again...huge, huge crowd here in Times Square! Since 2007, I've had the pleasure to work with Floyd and his team. Here in New York, we were at Rockefeller Plaza, we were at the Empire State Building and now here at Times Square, but wouldn't you agree, Floyd, that this is the best one yet?

"This is the one fight everybody wanted. The one fight everybody waited for. Floyd 'Money' Mayweather is the one...he is highest-paid one, he's the best one, he's the pound for pound one, he's the one in a generation and maybe the one in a lifetime, but will he be 'THE ONE' at the end of September 14 or will we have the next one, the new one, Canelo Alvarez?

"Canelo is the Mexican James Dean. He has a cult-like following. He's the one Mexico has been waiting for. He's the one who will give Mayweather the biggest test of his career. He's the younger one, he's the bigger one, he is the stronger one...and he is the better looking one. Sorry Floyd, just kidding.

"The one thing I know is that September 14 the world will be watching who will be 'THE ONE.' Make sure if you can't be live at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas - tickets will go on sale tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. at Ticketmaster or at MGM - you watch it live on SHOWTIME Pay-Per-View.

"I want to quickly thank our sponsors, most of all Corona, O'Reilly Auto Parts and Valvoline for putting their efforts behind this great fight.

"This is without doubt the single biggest fight we have promoted. This is a record-breaker and if you have watched boxing before, I know you'll watch this fight and if you haven't make sure you don't miss it September 14. The fight will be shown in movie theaters across the nation as well on over 400 screens which is something that is exclusive to Mayweather fights."

Oscar De La Hoya, President, Golden Boy Promotions

"New York, are you ready? On September 14 we will have not a good fight, but a great fight. Floyd Mayweather, the pound-for-pound champion of the world against Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez who is Mexico's biggest sports figure and Mexico's biggest icon."

Stephen Espinoza, Executive Vice President and General Manager, SHOWTIME Sports

"At SHOWTIME our goal is very simple: we want to bring you the most exciting, the most action-packed fights with boxing's biggest stars. That's exactly what SHOWTIME has become known for. In just the last few weeks, SHOWTIME has brought you Alfredo Angulo, Josesito Lopez, Marcos Maidana, Danny Garcia, Peter Quillin, Adrien Broner and Amir Khan. Now, SHOWTIME Pay-Per-View is bringing you the two biggest stars in the sport, Floyd 'Money' Mayweather and Canelo Alvarez.

"SHOWTIME Pay-Per-View is proud to be bringing you, 'THE ONE: Mayweather vs. Canelo,' the one fight you've all been waiting for. In every sport, there are certain, rare occasions when you have the best against the best. The Super Bowl, The Final Four, College Football's National Championship...September 14 will be one of those occasions with the two biggest stars in the sport and the two biggest fan bases. We have America's number one fighter versus Mexico's number one fighter. We have the number one pound-for-pound fighter in the sport versus the number one new star in the sport.

"This is a must-see event and as usual SHOWTIME and SHOWTIME Pay-Per-View will be there every step of the way. From today's press conference that is being streamed on SHOWTIME's website to all the other remaining stops on the tour, make sure you check out SHOWTIME's website for daily updates. As usual, ALL ACCESS will take you behind the scenes and we will be announcing the schedule for ALL ACCESS very shortly. We will see you all on September 14."

Jose "Chepo" Reynoso, Manager of Canelo

"I just want to say we are ready for this fight. Canelo is going to train like he always does. Viva Mexico!"

FLOYD "MONEY" MAYWEATHER SELECTS CANELO ALVAREZ FOR SUPER WELTERWEIGHT WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP MEGA-BOUT "THE ONE: MAYWEATHER VS CANELO" ON SATURDAY, SEPT. 14

BOXING'S BIGGEST STAR, UNDEFEATED, EIGHT-TIME & FIVE-DIVISION WORLD CHAMPION FLOYD "MONEY" MAYWEATHER SELECTS UNDEFEATED MEXICAN BOXING SENSATION CANELO ALVAREZ FOR SUPER WELTERWEIGHT WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP MEGA-BOUT "THE ONE: MAYWEATHER VS CANELO" ON SATURDAY, SEPT. 14 AT MGM GRAND IN LAS VEGAS AND LIVE ON SHOWTIME PPV®

The most compelling and anticipated fight in boxing is officially set as the sport's No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter, undefeated Eight-Time, Five-Division World ChampionFloyd "Money" Mayweather will face undefeated Mexican star and Super Welterweight World Champion Canelo Alvarez in "THE ONE: MAYWEATHER VS. CANELO" on Saturday, Sept. 14 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, live on SHOWTIME PPV®.
The marquee matchup was initially announced by Mayweather via his Twitter account on May 29 setting the sports world abuzz.  The bout will be a Super Welterweight World Championship contested for the WBC, WBA Super, WBA and Ring Magazine Super Welterweight World Championships on Mexican Independence Day weekend, one of the two biggest weekends on the boxing calendar.  The fight will be promoted by Mayweather Promotions, Golden Boy Promotions and Canelo Promotions.
The event is sponsored by Corona, O'Reilly Auto Parts and Valvoline and will be produced and distributed live by SHOWTIME PPV® beginning at 9:00 p.m. ET/6:00 p.m. PT.  The event can be heard in Spanish using secondary audio programming (SAP).
Mayweather, who usually campaigns at 147 pounds, chose the younger and bigger Canelo as his opponent for the second bout of his new contract with Showtime Networks Inc. and its parent company, CBS Corporation.
"I picked Canelo because he deserves the chance and is the best opponent possible for me at this time," said Mayweather, who is coming off of a near shutout win on May 4 over Six-Time and Four-Division World Champion Robert Guerrero.  "When I signed my new deal with Showtime and CBS, I said I was going to stay active and fight the best fighters and I am keeping my word.  I looked at several different fighters and decided to pick Canelo because he can give me a great fight and one the fans are going to appreciate.  Sure it's a risk to fight a guy that is younger and bigger than me, but I love taking risks.  Be ready because I'm in fantastic shape and I'm going to train even harder for this fight than I did for my last one.  He might be a big, young, strong and talented champion, but my experience and work ethic make me believe that I'm that much better and no one in boxing can beat me right now."
Canelo is coming off of a unanimous decision win over then WBA World Champion Austin Trout in front of a sold-out crowd of nearly 40,000 at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas on April 20.  The young champion has been soliciting to fight Mayweather for some time and is excited to challenge boxing's best fighter in what could be a career-defining fight for the Mexican superstar.
"I'm ready for the big challenges and now I have to prove it against Floyd Mayweather on September 14," said Canelo.  "I said that I wanted to fight the best and here I am in front of the best pound-for-pound fighter, who I respect for his achievements, but on September 14, I will write a new page in boxing history because I'm going to be victorious.  This fight is for all of my fans, my family and of course for Mexico because we're fighting on the weekend of Mexico's Independence.  I've waited so long for this and my only option is to WIN!"
"It's a done deal and I commend Floyd for selecting Canelo Alvarez as his next challenge," said Leonard Ellerbe, CEO Mayweather Promotions.  "Floyd is a great champion who has earned the right to control the destiny of his career.  To select a young, strong and bigger opponent in Canelo, who has proven he is at the championship level with his success to date, is just another indication of Floyd's love for the sport and the fans that embrace him every time he steps in the ring.  It's his legacy on the line September 14 and I have no doubt that he will be victorious again."
"This is THE ONE.  The one fight everyone wants to see as Mayweather is the best ONE ever and no ONE has ever been able to find a way to beat him," said Richard Schaefer, CEO of Golden Boy Promotions.  "Will he stay undefeated or will Canelo be the first ONE to beat him?  My hat goes off to Floyd for accepting the challenge of a young, strong and undefeated fighter like Canelo and my hat goes off to Canelo for agreeing to fight the best fighter in the world. These are modern day gladiators who know how to entertain and on September 14, the world will stop and watch to see who will be THE ONE!  Mayweather vs. Canelo is without doubt ONE of the biggest boxing events of all-time."
"The response to the announcement of this event, from all corners of sports and entertainment, has been overwhelming," said Stephen Espinoza, executive vice president and general manager, SHOWTIME Sports.  "It's a natural response when the two most skilled and most popular athletes in a sport face off against each other.  I commend both Floyd and Canelo for making the best fight possible.  Neither man ever waivered in their desire to give the fans what they've been clamoring for."
"We look forward to hosting one of the biggest boxing events in recent years over Mexican Independence Day weekend," said Richard Sturm, president of sports and entertainment for MGM Resorts International.  "These two undefeated athletes will put on a spectacular show, guaranteeing boxing fans a thrilling, action-packed night from the MGM Grand Garden Arena."
Undefeated Floyd "Money" Mayweather, (44-0, 26 KO's), an eight-time world champion in five weight divisions, remains boxing's biggest attraction, wowing crowds and generating remarkable pay-per-view numbers every time he steps into the ring.  During Mayweather's already extraordinary career, he has amassed wins over world champions including Genaro Hernandez, Diego Corrales, Jose Luis Castillo, Arturo Gatti, Zab Judah, Oscar De La Hoya, Ricky Hatton, Juan Manuel Marquez, Shane Mosley, Victor Ortiz, Miguel Cotto and most recently Robert Guerrero, marking the 44th win of his storied career.  Over the course of his participation in pay-per-view events Mayweather has generated more than 10.6 million buys and nearly $650 million in pay-per-view revenue.  He averages more than one million pay-per-view buys per event, the highest pay-per-view buy average of any boxer in history.  Mayweather, the world's highest paid athlete in any sport (Sports Illustrated, 2013), co-headlined the single biggest pay-per-view boxing event in history when he fought Oscar De La Hoya in 2007.  In addition, Mayweatherhas appeared in the sport's four biggest non-heavyweight pay-per-view events.
At only 22 years of age, the pride of Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, Canelo Alvarez (42-0-1, 30 KO's) has emerged as a Mexican icon, standing side-by-side with his country's greatest sporting legends.  His fights on Mexican television network Televisa routinely garner record ratings.  In Sept. 2012, Canelo set a new ratings record for boxing on SHOWTIME in his first bout on the network.  A fighting phenom, Canelo has fought professionally since 2005 when he was only 15 years old.  The powerful puncher tore through all comers on the local circuit in Mexico before winning the NABF welterweight title in 2009.  He then began his attack on the international boxing scene.  In 2010, Canelo had a breakout year with victories over Jose Miguel Cotto, Luciano Cuello and former World Champions Carlos Baldomir and Lovemore N'dou.  By 2011, he earned his first world championship by defeating Matthew Hatton for the WBC Super Welterweight World Championship.  Canelo has since defended his title successfully six times defeating Ryan Rhodes, Alfonso Gomez, Kermit Cintron, Sugar Shane Mosley, Josesito Lopez and, most recently, with a spirited unanimous decision win over Austin Trout, setting up his fight against Mayweather.
The MGM Grand Garden Arena is home to concerts, championship boxing and premier sporting and special events. The Arena offers comfortable seating for as many as 16,800 with excellent sightlines and state-of-the-art acoustics, lighting and sound.  Prominent events to date have included world championship fights between Evander Holyfield and Mike Tyson as well as Oscar de la Hoya vs. Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao vs. Juan Manuel Marquez; and concerts by The Rolling Stones, Madonna, Elton John, Bruce Springsteen, Paul McCartney, Bette Midler, George Strait, Janet Jackson, Phil Collins, Billy Joel, U2, Lady Gaga, Sting, Coldplay, Alicia Keys, Jimmy Buffett and the Barbra Streisand Millennium Concert.  The MGM Grand Garden Arena also is home to the annual shows including Academy of Country Music Awards, Billboard Music Awards, iHeartRadio Music Festival and the Frozen Fury NHL pre-season game which features the Los Angeles Kings vs. Colorado Avalanche.
