Unified Super Lightweight World Champion Danny “Swift” Garcia and his father/trainer Angel Garcia opened their Philadelphia training camp for the media on Wednesday as they prepare for their upcoming showdown against power-punching Lucas “The Machine” Matthysse
Garcia (26-0, 20 KO’s) will defend his WBC, WBA Super and Ring Magazine Super Lightweight World Titles against WBC Interim Super Lightweight World Champion Matthysse (34-2, 32 KO’s) in the 12-round co-featured bout of “THE ONE” MAYWEATHER VS. CANELO” on Saturday, Sept. 14at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nev. The fight will be produced and televised live on SHOWTIME PPV®.
Also joining the Garcia family at newly opened DSG Boxing Gym was boxing legend and Golden Boy Promotions Partner Bernard Hopkins .
Here’s what the participants had to say on Wednesday:
DANNY “SWIFT” GARCIA:
“This fight is very exciting for me.  We are part of the biggest night in boxing and I will be ready.  I feel like I was born for this - fighting at this level on the biggest stage in boxing.
“Every fight is important to me.  I am training as I always do but I have a new gym so it is nice to be able to train in privacy.  What better way to invest in my future in boxing than investing in my own gym.  We built in the same neighborhood where my Dad grew up. We are Philly through and through.  I love having my own gym.
“A for Matthysse, he has power but I have power, too.  I fought a lot of guys with power.  Trust me, I plan to take away his power, make him miss and make him pay.
“If he [Matthysse] opens up early to try to get me out of there, trust me, he’s making a big mistake.  He tries that and the fight’s going to be over quickly
“I’m not going to skip anything for this fight in training. I am going to work just as hard. I know what I have to do September 14, and I plan to do it the right way, the smart way.
“To me Matthysse is just a regular fighter.  He already has two losses.  I don’t consider him one of the best.  He doesn’t even have a world title and when he fought for one,he lost.  Let’s see what happens when I show him different looks, back him up, work angles.  I can fight backing up. Can he?
“I thought his fight with [Zab] Judah was a close fight.  I know I can’t make this a close fight.  I am going to stick to my fight plan, give him different looks and be smart.  I’m definitely not going to give him something easy.  He’s going to have to earn anything he gets in the ring that night. Let’s see if he knows how to earn it.
“It doesn’t matter who’s stronger.  It’s who’s smarter.  I always find a way to win.
“I definitely learn every time I get in the ring. I learned a lot in the Judah fight.  Things changed quickly but I was happy for the experience.  It taught me a lot.
“I think this fight will give me a new level of respect. I feel that after this fight I am going to show people I am one of the best 140-pounders to ever put on a pair of gloves.
ANGEL GARCIA:
“My job is not to worry about Matthysse.  I am not worried.  He doesn't put fear in me.  His coach doesn't put fear in me.  His people don't put fear in me.  His country doesn't put fear in me.  Nobody puts fear in me.  The only one I fear is God.
“Nobody is beating us, not right now, not tomorrow and not in the future.  Believe this, on September 14, Matthysse is going to get his ass whooped.

“Danny is the most underrated champion there is and I am the most underrated trainer. But it doesn't matter to me.  As long as I know and as long as Danny knows and we're happy, then I don't care what the world says.
“You can love me or hate me but it doesn't matter.  I believe in me and I believe in Danny.  I always tell Danny that hard work and dedication pay the bills.

“I'm not going to look to Floyd Mayweather yet because we have Matthysse first.  We are going to worry about Matthysse.  Floyd has Canelo, so they have got to worry about each other.
“You never underestimate.  Never, never, never take the cake and eat it before you light the candles.  I'm not going to worry about Floyd.  He has his own thing and Danny has his own thing. We are going to worry about Matthysse and September 14.

“The fans should be glad and happy for such a stacked main and co-main event on PPV.  The fans should be happy and love all four of them.  They shouldn’t hate one and love the others; they should love all of them.  This is about the fans.  The fans will get the benefit.

“Matthysse is going to lose September 14.  We aren't coming to lose.  The best man will win and it's going to be Danny.

“In the fight, I think Matthysse will come out, try to prove a point and try to get into Danny’s head as the killer.  But he’s not a killer, he has nothing. He isn't a killer.”

BERNARD HOPKINS:
“It's important that this fight is happening.  It's happening at the right time.  That is a really, really exciting event with a massive card that is bringing a lot of attention.  And then you add Danny Garcia and Matthysse and it makes it even better.

“This is a fight that I see as 50/50.  I get asked all the time in fights who I think is going to win and who I think has the better chin.  This is a fight that is not going to go 12 rounds.  And if it does go 12 rounds, I don't think either fighter is going to be the same in whatever he does next.  That's how important this fight is to the fans but also in the careers of the two fighters.
“There are big things after this fight and the winner will finally be the undisputed champion in that division.  Right now, I think it is Danny Garcia, who has three major titles. So he is, right now, the guy to beat at that weight division.

“I think this fight boils down to who has the better strategy, the better chin and who can adapt and change strategy in the course of the race.  This is the type of fight where both fighters must be on top of their game. Danny's weaknesses must be kept to a minimum. Matthysse's weaknesses must be kept to a minimum.”

What Mayweather and Canelo as well as executives Leonard EllerbeRichard Schaefer,Oscar De La HoyaStephen Espinoza and Canelo's trainer, Chepo Reynoso, said Monday:

Floyd Mayweather, Eight-Time And Five-Division World Champion

"Canelo, I appreciate you for taking this fight. Let's give the fans what they want to see on September 14.

"Mexico has produced some legendary champions. I take my hat off to them. I respect the country of Mexico, but something I've always enjoyed about the sport of boxing is that my fans can't fight for me and his fans can't fight for him.

"I'm truly thankful to the fans, without the fans I wouldn't be where I am.

"Golden Boy Promotions, we love working hand-in-hand with you guys. Mayweather Promotions, our company is still building. We've got young champions on the rise. I have to thank SHOWTIME; we're going to do some record-breaking things. I have to thank CBS. To all the executives, I want to thank you all for believing in me and my skills."

"I want to thank Canelo's fans, you guys have stood behind him. He's a true champion, a young, strong champion and he's earned his right to be up here with me. He's done something right to get to this level.

"I can't wait to go out there and perform. I'm about to go to camp. Physically I'm always ready, but I'm looking for an exciting fight on September 14.

"It has truly been an amazing ride. I'm blessed to be in the sport of boxing and be at the top for 17 years.

"There's no city like New York City. As a matter of fact, they should put a ring right here in Times Square and let us do it today.

"On September 14, all we want to do is give the fans excitement. That's what it's all about. I just want to give the fans a hell of a fight.

"Canelo is a young strong champion. He's obviously done something right to be at this level. He's a guy that I can't overlook. I've got to go out there and fight the best fight.

"When guys face me, it's a totally different level. I'm sure he's going to be in tip top condition and give the fans a great show.

"Come September 14, it's the best versus the best. 'THE ONE.' He's a guy I know I can't overlook, but I've been here before. I have a lot of experience. One thing I don't do is play into the crowd. I understand that this is my job. I know what it takes in a fight of this magnitude and I'm going to continue to dedicate myself to my craft and be the best that I can be. I dedicated my whole life to be at the pinnacle and to face the best.

"The earth is my turf. You can put me in any ring and I'll always come out victorious. The car won't stop now. Let's keep the car rolling. It's gong to be a hell of a fight on September 14."

Canelo Alvarez, Super Welterweight World Champion

"Good afternoon, New York. Thank you all for being here and for your support. With this fight, everybody's going to win. In boxing everybody has their time, and this is my time. Everybody knows that Floyd's the best without question, but it's my time. We're going to win.

"I'm younger and bigger, which are very important keys, but you must remember that Floyd is a very intelligent fighter, but I'm going to have the right game plan.

"Obviously, this is my biggest fight, but I've visualized it and I've prepared my mind for it for a while.

"I appreciate all the fans for all of their incredible support. I always have. I'm very gratified to be here today, to see this turnout and to have so many fans supporting for me. I'll be ready on September 14 and give them all what they want to see.''

Leonard Ellerbe, CEO, Mayweather Promotions

"We would like to thank each and every one of you for coming out today to support this tremendous event that we're having on September 14. We have a young, great fighter in Canelo Alvarez who thinks that he's 'THE ONE' going up against the best fighter in the world and who's been the best fighter in the world for a number of years. He is 'THE ONE.'

"This fight we feel will break records all over the world. The reason Floyd wanted to take this fight is because of you, the fans, and come September 14 that's what you will get, a great, great fight."

Richard Schaefer, CEO, Golden Boy Promotions

"Wow, New York, you did it again...huge, huge crowd here in Times Square! Since 2007, I've had the pleasure to work with Floyd and his team. Here in New York, we were at Rockefeller Plaza, we were at the Empire State Building and now here at Times Square, but wouldn't you agree, Floyd, that this is the best one yet?

"This is the one fight everybody wanted. The one fight everybody waited for. Floyd 'Money' Mayweather is the one...he is highest-paid one, he's the best one, he's the pound for pound one, he's the one in a generation and maybe the one in a lifetime, but will he be 'THE ONE' at the end of September 14 or will we have the next one, the new one, Canelo Alvarez?

"Canelo is the Mexican James Dean. He has a cult-like following. He's the one Mexico has been waiting for. He's the one who will give Mayweather the biggest test of his career. He's the younger one, he's the bigger one, he is the stronger one...and he is the better looking one. Sorry Floyd, just kidding.

"The one thing I know is that September 14 the world will be watching who will be 'THE ONE.' Make sure if you can't be live at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas - tickets will go on sale tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. at Ticketmaster or at MGM - you watch it live on SHOWTIME Pay-Per-View.

"I want to quickly thank our sponsors, most of all Corona, O'Reilly Auto Parts and Valvoline for putting their efforts behind this great fight.

"This is without doubt the single biggest fight we have promoted. This is a record-breaker and if you have watched boxing before, I know you'll watch this fight and if you haven't make sure you don't miss it September 14. The fight will be shown in movie theaters across the nation as well on over 400 screens which is something that is exclusive to Mayweather fights."

Oscar De La Hoya, President, Golden Boy Promotions

"New York, are you ready? On September 14 we will have not a good fight, but a great fight. Floyd Mayweather, the pound-for-pound champion of the world against Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez who is Mexico's biggest sports figure and Mexico's biggest icon."

Stephen Espinoza, Executive Vice President and General Manager, SHOWTIME Sports

"At SHOWTIME our goal is very simple: we want to bring you the most exciting, the most action-packed fights with boxing's biggest stars. That's exactly what SHOWTIME has become known for. In just the last few weeks, SHOWTIME has brought you Alfredo Angulo, Josesito Lopez, Marcos Maidana, Danny Garcia, Peter Quillin, Adrien Broner and Amir Khan. Now, SHOWTIME Pay-Per-View is bringing you the two biggest stars in the sport, Floyd 'Money' Mayweather and Canelo Alvarez.

"SHOWTIME Pay-Per-View is proud to be bringing you, 'THE ONE: Mayweather vs. Canelo,' the one fight you've all been waiting for. In every sport, there are certain, rare occasions when you have the best against the best. The Super Bowl, The Final Four, College Football's National Championship...September 14 will be one of those occasions with the two biggest stars in the sport and the two biggest fan bases. We have America's number one fighter versus Mexico's number one fighter. We have the number one pound-for-pound fighter in the sport versus the number one new star in the sport.

"This is a must-see event and as usual SHOWTIME and SHOWTIME Pay-Per-View will be there every step of the way. From today's press conference that is being streamed on SHOWTIME's website to all the other remaining stops on the tour, make sure you check out SHOWTIME's website for daily updates. As usual, ALL ACCESS will take you behind the scenes and we will be announcing the schedule for ALL ACCESS very shortly. We will see you all on September 14."

Jose "Chepo" Reynoso, Manager of Canelo

"I just want to say we are ready for this fight. Canelo is going to train like he always does. Viva Mexico!"

FLOYD "MONEY" MAYWEATHER & ROBERT "THE GHOST" GUERRERO QUOTES FROM BACK-TO-BACK MEDIA WORKOUTS IN LAS VEGAS Plus Mayweather Promotions Fighters J'Leon Love, Luis Arias & Badou Jack "MAY DAY: MAYWEATHER VS. GUERRERO" SATURDAY, MAY 4 ON SHOWTIME PPV® FROM MGM GRAND IN LAS VEGAS

"MAY DAY: Mayweather vs. Guerrero,'' Floyd "Money" Mayweather and Robert "The Ghost" Guerrero participated in media workouts on back-to-back days last week in Las Vegas.
Eight-Time and Five-Division World Champion Mayweather worked out Wednesday, April 17 at the Mayweather Boxing Club and Six-Time and Four-Division World Champion Guerrero on Tuesday, April 16 at the IBA Gym.
Joining Mayweather on Wednesday was Leonard Ellerbe, CEO of Mayweather Promotions, and several up
and coming boxers from Mayweather Promotions - J'Leon Love, who faces Gabriel Rosado on the May 4
SHOWTIME PPV undercard from MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, and Luis Arias and Badou
Jack, who will appear in non-televised fights on May 4. .
Richard Schaefer, CEO of Golden Boy Promotions, was on hand at both Mayweather and Guerrero's
workouts and expressed his excitement for the mega-event.
See below what the world champions, executives and other boxers said:

FLOYD MAYWEATHER, Eight-Time and Five-Division World Champion
"I've got to give thanks to everybody; there are so many different sponsors, Corona, Valvoline, MGM Grand and so many other people that have supported me throughout the years, all my fans, the media, my followers on Twitter. To SHOWTIME, CBS and all the other networks that have been showing love to me.
"SHOWTIME has let me do a lot of creative things. '30 Days In May,' 'ALL ACCESS' and we have another documentary coming out on CBS. I have a new relationship and a new marriage and I'm happy now.
"Freedom is very, very important. You can be locked up and be rich, but it's just like being poor if you don't have
freedom. So, freedom is very, very important. That's how I feel.
"I have another big fight on May 4th and it is against Robert Guerrero, 'The Ghost.' This guy is very, very confident and he believes in himself. We know he has only one loss, but they say a true champion can bounce back.
"It's obvious he did something right to get to this point. It's obvious he did something right in the Andre Berto fight. He dedicated himself to his craft, which is boxing. He stayed focused and he listened to his corner.

"I want a fighter to come in confident. We don't want the odds to be crazy, but the odds will always be crazy because I've proven myself over the years. But we want a fighter like Robert Guerrero who's confident and believes in his skills. Only thing that we [The Money Team] can do is push me to the limit and take me to that next level. That's what it's about.
"Now he [Robert Guerrero] got the fight with me. The game plan is to go out there, be smart and get the victory the best way I know how, continue to give the fans what they want to see, work hard and set record-breaking numbers.
"I'm a winner. I like to perform. I like to entertain and that's what it's about. It's about going out and giving the fans
what they want - excitement.
"I've faced every style so it's not hard for me to make an adjustment. I just have to go out there and see my dad's game plan is going to be.
"Like I always say for every fight, everybody had a game plan. All 43 of my opponents had a game plan and all 43
opponents came up short. So, I could care less what my opponent has to say. There isn't a blueprint on how to beat me. No one has found a way to break the Mayweather code.
"Being a legend, wanting your name mentioned in the mix of other fighters' names, that's why I work so hard right
now. I've been fighting since 1987. I've been a professional for 17 years. I've been dedicated to my craft.
"I don't think the layoff will affect me. My dad is back in my corner. My dad is my lead trainer, but I'm also working with my uncle Roger. The Mayweather family, as of right now, has good chemistry.
"Camp has gone tremendously. My weight has already been made, and I'm ready to fight. I feel good and, like I said, I couldn't do it without the support from the fans. When I was locked away, the fans wrote me letters and sent cards and I really appreciated that.
"This is world championship boxing and it's always blood, sweat and tears. It's not a sport if there isn't blood, sweat and tears. I'm happy that my dad is back in my camp and we're going strong. It's good working with him. If we have a problem and we're not seeing eye-to-eye, we pull each other to the side, talk about it and we get on the same page."

ROBERT GUERRERO, Six-Time and Four-Division World Champion
"My lucky number is 44. So you know, I'm ready to go. I'm excited and I've worked hard for this. I've worked hard to be in this position. God has blessed me with a lot. I'm ready. I've had the right fights to be here. I've been built up the right way. I'm ready to go. I feel ready. I had two good fights as a welterweight weight class before this. It was what I needed to break into the weight class.
"You've got to be ready to do everything [when fighting Floyd Mayweather]. People say you need to have an A, B and C game plan, but with Floyd, you need an A to Z game plan. You've got to be ready for whatever because Floyd is the type of guy that makes adjustments here and there and he makes it tough for fighters to get in there with him. You've got to be ready to make those adjustments; we've been practicing a lot of stuff. Our game plan is to go out there and be 100 percent ready and be able to make those adjustments. Throughout my career everybody has seen that I've been able to make adjustments.
"For a lot of guys, Floyd gets into their head and he frustrates them. They lose their game plan. That game plan goes out the door. That being said, you also have to be able to execute a game plan and a lot of these guys know what they need to do, but they don't have the ability to do it.
"You've got to go in there and fight an intelligent fight with Floyd. He is a very sharp guy, a very smart guy in the
ring. That is why he is 43-0. It's about being smart, using your head in the ring and maintaining your game plan.
"My wife's battle with cancer really made me grow as a man. It makes you mentally strong. She is fighting for her
life. Being a caretaker makes you a mentally strong person. That is why I laugh when you say this is just a fight
compared to that because it is. It's just a fight. That is one of the things that I learned from her whole fight with
cancer. Being mentally strong, being able to hold it together and pushing through is what counts.
"[When asked if the pressure will affect him] I laugh because it is laughable. To have people ask me questions and this and that, that isn't pressure at all. Raising two kids and having a wife dying from cancer, now that's pressure. So this is no problem. This just comes with the territory and you've got to do it to take care of business."

LEONARD ELLERBE, CEO of Mayweather Promotions
"Mayweather vs. Guerrero is the biggest fight of the year. Everyone is excited, and we want the fans to be engaged. It's going to be a great, great fight.
"I think he [Guerrero] put himself in this position by beating a very good fighter in Andre Berto. It was a very exciting fight and he proved that he could fight Floyd. I think he put himself in the position where he became more than a viable opponent. He became 'the guy.'
"It doesn't matter what the manager says and it doesn't matter what the promoter says. It will be up to the fighters come May 4th.
"He's [Floyd Mayweather] a lot more laid back, and he values freedom. Having been incarcerated was definitely a life changing experience for him. It was something he hadn't experienced before. No one wants to be in that
situation. There's nothing to prepare you for something like that. The environment and conditions he was placed in made it tough. But that's behind him. He did his time and it's time to move on."

RICHARD SCHAEFER, CEO of Golden Boy Promotions
"It's a Mayweather fight and a Mayweather fight is the Super Bowl of boxing.
"A Mayweather fight means a sold out venue and great buzz in Las Vegas. It's going to be one of those nights when The Money Team will show up against Robert "The Ghost" Guerrero.
"Robert Guerrero has moved up several weight classes and is always perceived as the little guy, but he is bigger than Mayweather. He has a height advantage on him.
"Guerrero is one of the most underrated fighters. When this fight was made, he was a nine to one underdog, and I
checked yesterday and now he's a four to one [underdog]. As people get to know Robert Guerrero, through the CBS exposure and the pay-per-view promotion, etc., I think people are starting to realize that there is a reason Robert Guerrero hasn't lost in almost several years.
"I have no doubt that Guerrero is the most dangerous opponent that Mayweather has faced in a long time."
"Robert hasn't really lost since 2008 and the one loss he has, the only loss on his record, was against a guy who we found out later was on performance enhancing drugs. They had a rematch and he [Guerrero] stopped him inside of three rounds.
"Robert really is undefeated. He has the size advantage. He has the youth, and for those people who watched his fight against Berto, they could see how remarkably he was able to take Berto's punches. Berto is one of the toughest, hardest punching guys in the 147-pound weight class. He is a natural 147-pounder and Robert just walked through him. That just shows you how tough he is.
"Now if Guerrero is able to take Berto's shots, how can Floyd Mayweather possibly hurt him? If you can't hurt Robert Guerrero, then he is going to be coming all night long, and it is going to be a long night for Floyd Mayweather.
"I know it is going to be a great fight because Robert is coming to fight. He has wanted this fight for so long. Over the last three or four years they [Team Guerrero] kept saying to me, 'I want Mayweather. I want Mayweather.' So finally it is here. Two weeks to go. Robert Guerrero is motivated.
"He [Guerrero] isn't just fighting for himself, but he is doing it for all the cancer survivors as well. He's getting
tremendous support from the Christian community as well.
"Of course Floyd Mayweather is in a class of his own. He's undefeated and pound-for-pound the best fighter and as he always says, '43 have tried and 43 have failed and this is going to be number 44.' So we'll see.''

J'LEON LOVE, Rising Middleweight Star
"Having Floyd [Mayweather] as a mentor and seeing him train in the gym everyday is such a special opportunity for a young fighter like myself. He is the best in boxing and just being around him and watching him train the way that he does has already taught me a lot.
"I'm ready to go on May 4th and I'm so grateful to Mayweather Promotions for giving me the opportunity to open the pay-per-view portion of the event. I've been training hard. I'm prepared to go in there against Gabriel Rosado and give it my all.
"I don't take anything for granted. I feel this is a moment in my career that I will remember for a long time and I'm
looking forward to showing Floyd and boxing fans worldwide that they can count on me to become a world champion in
the near future."

BADOU JACK, Top Light Heavyweight Prospect
"Eddie [Mustafa Muhammad] is a great trainer. He's like a father figure to me. He's like family. He's a great motivator, so having him in my corner makes me very confident.
"He [Floyd Mayweather] is one of the greatest fighters of our era, so it is a great feeling for a guy like that to have your
back."

LUIS ARIAS, Top Super Middleweight Prospect
"Camp is going really well. I'm definitely excited. Obviously this is a huge platform for me and a great opportunity for me. It's an exciting part of my life to be only 4-0 and be fighting on such a big stage, but I'm ready.
"I'm young and I'm hungry. This is what I wanted.
"Sparring with Floyd is an unbelievable thing. My confidence is at an all time high."

FLOYD "MONEY" MAYWEATHER & ROBERT "THE GHOST" GUERRERO QUOTES FROM BACK-TO-BACK MEDIA WORKOUTS IN LAS VEGAS Plus Mayweather Promotions Fighters J'Leon Love, Luis Arias & Badou Jack

You can be locked up and be rich, but it's just like being poor if you don't have freedom.
