Tyson Fury Punches Out Heavy Duty ratings‏

TYSON Fury proved on Saturday night that he's not only the new star of World boxing after winning the British and Commonwealth heavyweight titles but also a major ratings puller for Channel 5.

Channel 5 executives were left thrilled by 6ft 9' Fury's sensational performance in the victory over Dereck Chisora at Wembley Arena which attracted a peak audience figure of 3m viewers - demonstrating once again the appeal of boxing to the public.

British and Commonwealth champion Fury is now ready to become a global star with not only Channel 5 but American broadcasters eager to screen his future fights.

Fury's promoter Mick Hennessy believes the victory over Chisora is just the start of a great journey for the 22-year-old right to the top of world boxing.

Hennessy said: "The figures for Channel 5 were fantastic and I have to give great credit to Channel 5 because they listened to me and they believed in me when I told them about Tyson, unlike other broadcasters.

"When I promoted the World title fight between Carl Froch and Jean Pascal the figures were roughy 2.9m and that was a World title on ITV with a big build-up.
This is just the start for Tyson, he's a winner in the ring and he's a winner with the public sitting at home wanting to see a proper fighter and a guy who has the charisma to entertain them.

The future is looking very bright for Tyson, we want him to win the Irish title next and then the European title and Channel 5 now have the opportunity to bring those fights to an even bigger audience. Nobody in British boxing is getting this amount of people watching their fights. Towards the end of the fight it recorded the highest veiwing figures and was the most watched program on British television."

Watch all of the action from Wembley Arena on Channel 5 On Demand.

Two worlds collide McBride set to face Polish giant for WBC International heavyweight titleWach, McBride battling for heavyweight supremacy‏

Two former Olympians are prepared to stand toe-to-toe Friday, July 29th, 2011 at the Mohegan Sun Arena in a heavyweight title bout that could move the winner one step closer to boxing’s ultimate prize.

Undefeated Mariusz Wach (24-0, 12 KOs), who competed for his native Poland in the 2004 Olympics, will face former world-rated contender Kevin McBride (35-9-1, 29 KOs), a participant for Ireland in the 2002 Summer Games, in the 12-round main event of Jimmy Burchfield’s Classic Entertainment & Sports’ “Heat Wave” show at Uncasville, Conn., with the vacant World Boxing Council (WBC) International heavyweight championship on the line.

This heavyweight showdown is the first of two title fights July 29th; Elvin Ayala (23-5-1, 11 KOs) of New Haven, Conn., will battle former two-time world champion Israel “Pito” Cardona (36-10, 28 KOs) of Hartford in the 10-round co-feature for the vacant WBC U.S. National Boxing Council (USNBC) middleweight title, a belt once held by former world champions Paul Williams and Lamont Peterson. Tickets for “Heat Wave,” which are priced at $40, $65 and $105, are on sale starting today and can be purchased by calling CES at 401.724.2253/2254 or Ticketmaster at 1.800.745.3000.

The WBC International title is equally prestigious; among the former champions in the heavyweight division are: current World Boxing Association (WBA), World Boxing Organization (WBO), International Boxing Organization (IBO), International Boxing Federation (IBF) and The Ring Magazine champion Wladimir Klitschko, a two-time WBC International title-holder who beat David Haye this past Saturday in a heavyweight unification bout; Oliver McCall, who upset Lennox Lewis in 1994 to win the WBC world title; and former WBC world champion John Ruiz, who is famous for his trilogy against Evander Holyfield that included one win, one loss and a draw. David Tua, who beat Tony Tucker in 1997 for the WBO title, also held the WBC International belt early in his career, along with former WBC world champion Oleg Maskaev.

Since the inception of the WBC International title in 1987, nine of its 16 champions have gone on two win a major world title, a success rate of 56 percent.

“This is as good as it gets in heavyweight boxing,” said Burchfield, who recently signed Wach to a multi-year promotional agreement in conjunction with Global Boxing Promotions. “Unlike some of the recent world-title bouts in this division that failed to live up to the hype and ultimately disappointed the sport and its loyal fans, this will be a true heavyweight war.

“Some of the best heavyweights in boxing history have held this prestigious title, and that tradition will continue July 29th at the beautiful Mohegan Sun Arena. Mariusz is looking to carve his niche as the future of the heavyweight division, but Kevin is a cagey veteran with a ton of experience and will not back down without a challenge. This is what boxing needs – two hard-hitting heavyweights willing to take risks and leave it all in the ring. We’re proud to bring this fight to the fans who’ve been craving a real heavyweight showdown, and we’ve got an unbelievable undercard with tremendous national and local talent as well.”

Aside from becoming the youngest super heavyweight to compete in the Olympics, McBride is more famously known for ending Hall of Famer “Iron” Mike Tyson’s career in 2005. The two fought at the MCI Center in Washington, D.C., with McBride scoring a sixth-round knockout over the former undisputed heavyweight champion. McBride, who was born in Clones, Ireland, but now lives in Dorchester, Mass., retired after losing to Andrew Golota in 2007 before returning to the ring three years later. He recorded his 35th win by beating Franklin Egobi in 2010 and recently lost a unanimous decision to former cruiserweight world champion Tomasz Adamek, who will face Vitali Klitschko for the WBC heavyweight title in September.

This will be McBride’s third attempt at beating a Polish fighter – Golota and Adamek were born in Warsaw and Zywiec, respectively – though Wach represents a unique challenge. At 6-foot-7 ½ and 250 pounds, Wach is much bigger than Golota and arguably stronger than Adamek, who only has two knockouts in six fights since making the jump from cruiserweight to heavyweight. For both fighters, this title bout represents a preview of what the winner could see if he eventually steps into the ring with one of the Klitschko brothers; both Vitali and Wladimir are taller than 6-6 and routinely fight between 240 and 250 pounds.

Wach, 31, hasn’t fought since Feb. 19 in Newark, N.J., when he knocked out Jonathan Haggler in the third round to capture the WBC Baltic heavyweight title. Among Wach’s other notable wins are a fourth-round knockout win over Galen Brown on Nov. 12, 2010 in Lincoln, R.I., and a seventh-round TKO win over Eric Boose in July of 2008 on ESPN’s “Friday Night Fights” at the Aragon Ballroom in Chicago.

With knockout victories in each of his last four fights, Wach represents a serious threat in the heavyweight division. He is currently training in North Bergen, N.J., and working with the well-known duo of Juan and Carlos De Leon. Juan De Leon formerly trained undefeated heavyweight “Baby” Joe Mesi while Carlos De Leon is a former four-time cruiserweight world champion.

Boxing Sensation Hector Camacho Jr. Steps Back into Ring Saturday Night‏

This Saturday night in Atlanta world renowned middleweight boxer Hector Camacho Jr. (53-4-1) will return to the ring as he continues to embark on his journey of winning the title. As he prepares for the underdog Shakir Ashanti (16-11), Camacho Jr. keeps his main goal in sight.

“I can’t look past a fighter like Ashanti, because he comes in to play the spoiler role,” said Camacho Jr. “I have to be live and sharp. These are the kind of fighters that you have to let them know right away that they have no business in the ring with me. If you allow a fighter like Ashanti to stick around and believe he has a chance then you’re in for a long night.”

Going into this fight Camacho Jr. is confident that his training regime and work ethic will help him emerge the victor.

“I have worked hard to train for this fight, focusing on using my speed and experience to my advantage in setting up my attack,” said Camacho Jr. “I plan to win the fight using my ring smarts and experience.”

Camacho Jr. won his only other fight of 2011, and has gone an impressive 9-1 over his last 10 bouts. Looking forward, Camacho Jr. plans to drop down in weight following this bout to make a run at the welterweight championship.

“I want to focus on making the welterweight limits and starting going after the champions at that weight class,” said Camacho Jr. “There are some of the top fighters at that weight, and if I want to make an impact on my way to the championship, that is the way to do it.”

Outside of the ring Camacho Jr. has been working with his team in orchestrating a charity event for Harlem. Camacho Jr. is looking to host a boxing exhibition to spread awareness of gang and drug violence affluent in communities and raise money to help local schools.

“It is important to stay involved with my community, and to give back to the kids,” said Camacho Jr. “After this July 30 fight I plan to focus my efforts and helping out as much as possible and making a difference wherever I can.”

They make their Herman “Skip” Scott July 28th in Houston Texas

HERMAN SKIP SCOTT

Skip Scott is a gentleman in his mortgage business and a monster in the ring and wants to take his boxing business to huge heights (no pun intended for this 6’8” monster puncher) and his salesmanship to new heights looking for a new profession in sales. “I want to meet more people to continue to build my following so I am looking for work outside the ring where I can do that….sales and public relations. I feel I’m good at it and can bring a lot of exposure to the right people. My agent, Kerry Daigle and I are looking for the right fit,” Scott says with passion.

Scott had only 3 amateur fights as an amateur boxer competing in a Ringside Tournament in Kansas City and making it all the way to the finals. His contact sport experience comes from kickboxing where he won 75 amateur fights against only 5 defeats and was ranked number 3 in the United States. “I had an injury to my leg so I thought …..why not try boxing?” states Scott. “My trainers are Aaron Navarro and Bobby Benton out of Lou Savarese’ s Gym in downtown Houston where the best heavyweights in Texas train. The sparring is incredible with lots of different guys with different looks (Eugene Hill, Justin Jones, Fred Allen, Steve Collins and many others that constantly come in to train and spar),” concludes Scott.

With so little amateur experience to rely on, Scott says every fight is an important lesson. “I lost my pro debut to a real tough guy. He ended up winning his next 10. I hurt him in the first two rounds but was too inexperienced in knowing how to finish him off. I threw a hundred punches in each of the first two rounds and wore myself down.” Scott has since run off thirteen consecutive victories including his last two with devastating knockouts.

Scott also has what he calls his secret weapon, NSA’s Juice Plus Fruit and Vegetable supplements – a product Scott uses for fast recovery times in training. “I believe in it so much I’m a distributor! It’s the only neutriceutical I’ve ever found with double blind placebo controlled gold standard studies published in 18 prestigious medical journals naming Juice Plus by name with specific results. It’s incredible., grins Scott.

Scott says he realizes he has spent time getting an education in the ring and is completing his college degree in “Hard Knocks University” and is looking to graduate in 2012 and get his PhD in knocking people out and doing it with swagger. Scott has spent 5+ years learning his craft and stays in excellent shape. He understands what the major networks want. They want a heavyweight that will not run and throw cautious punches but will step out and ‘fight’. He also understands the value of being an entertainer.

“I can promise you that when I fight one of these top ten fighters it will be exciting because I am going to make the fight. I hope more people come out to see me at the Houston Club on July 28th,” concludes the tall and personable heavyweight.

Asked what he thought about the Bermane Stiverne and Ray Austin WBC Title Eliminator that was on television the other night, he stated rather quickly with that model looking smile, “Are you kidding me? I knock either guy out quickly.” Pretty brash statement to make for a young prospect but Skip Scott can deliver. Ask his Texas fans. They will tell you. They come out in busloads.

Kerry Daigle and Keeppunching Entertainment has two 8-10 round fights lined up before the end of the year for the extremely popular heavyweight.

Gabriel “Tito” Bracero headlines Broadway Boxing on July 30 from the Aviator Sports & Events Center in Brooklyn

New York City’s longest running and most successful professional boxing series, Broadway Boxing, returns July 30 to the Aviator Sports and Events Center at Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn. In the main event, the series’ mainstay Gabriel Bracero returns in the main event in the wake of his most impressive victory. Bracero will take on Danie “The White Lion” Van Staden (8-6, 2 KOs) of Key West, FL.

Those scheduled to see action on the undercard include several of the most popular and exciting pugilists that the New York fight scene has to offer, such as flyweight Keisher McLeod-Wells, light heavyweight Seanie Monaghan, junior middleweight Delen Parsley, and light heavyweight Joe Smith Jr. In addition, middleweight Jonathan Cepeda, Brooklyn heavyweight Travis Peterkin, 2-0 (2 KOs), and heavyweight Todd Brown, 32, 3-0 (2 KOs), of St. Louis, MO, will face opponents to be named, as well as cruiserweight Jay Rodriguez, of Queens, NY, making his pro debut.
Brooklyn junior welterweight prospect Gabriel “Tito” Bracero (16-0, 2 KOs), 30, is returning to the platform that has become home court for him. July 30 will mark his eighth appearance on Broadway Boxing. Bracero is coming off his most impressive victory to date, knocking out Guillermo Valdes in just 40 seconds at Roseland Ballroom on July 11, celebrating his heritage during Puerto Rican Day Parade weekend. A two-time New York Golden Gloves champion and Junior Olympics champion, Bracero turned pro in 2001, at the age of 20, scoring five four-round decisions. However, his career would be put on hold as he succumbed to the lure of the streets and spent time in prison on a weapons charge. Refocused upon his release, Bracero resumed his career in 2009 and has won 11 in a row. Until recently, Bracero was not known to have much power, but his style is that of a volume puncher who applies relentless pressure in wearing opponents down.

Flyweight Keisher “Fire” McLeod-Wells (4-1, 1 KO), 34, of New York, NY, is a slick boxer with a stinging jab, who will be making her third appearance on Broadway Boxing, this time in a New York State title bout. After an accomplished amateur career that included 12 titles, four of which were New York Golden Gloves championships, McLeod-Wells turned pro on February 3, 2009, with a 55-second knockout over Treasure Saunders at the Masonic Temple in Brooklyn. “Fire” then traveled to Panama, going 1-1 in a pair of fights in May and July of that year. After defeating Abigail Villar in a four-round unanimous decision, McLeod-Wells then lost a controversial four-round majority decision to Laura Ledezma. Avoided by many fighters near her weight class, McLeod-Wells was forced into a bit of a layoff before taking a spot on a DiBella Entertainment-promoted show at BB King Blues Club, on March 31, 2010, winning a four-round unanimous decision over Laura Gomez. In her last fight, McLeod-Wells moved up to six-rounders, winning a unanimous decision over Melissa McMorrow, on February 9, 2011.

Dominican middleweight Jonathan Cepeda (10-0, 9 KOs), 27, of West Palm Beach, FL, is a rugged power puncher, who has shown poise and patience in the ring while stalking his foes, looking for openings. He is coming off seven consecutive knockout victories, and turned pro as a middleweight, on November 21, 2008, with a first round stoppage of Charles Wade in Florida. In his last bout on April 16, Cepeda needed just 129 seconds to knock out Brad Austin in North Carolina.

Seanie Monaghan (7-0, 4 KOs), 28, is an Irish brick layer out of Long Beach, NY. Despite a lack of amateur experience, with just 15 bouts, Monaghan was able to reach the finals of the New York Golden Gloves before turning pro in May 2010. Making up for his minimal amateur background, Monaghan is maintaining a busy schedule as a pro at light heavyweight, as his fight on July 30 will be his fourth this year thus far. In March, Monaghan fought twice, winning unanimous four-round decisions over Billy Cunningham and Michael Glenn.

Delen “Sniper” Parsley (5-0, 2 KOs), 23, of Brooklyn, NY, is a former amateur standout and son of famed Gleason’s Gym coach Delen “Blimp” Parsley. Turning pro in July 2009 as a junior middleweight, Parsley’s last two ring appearances have taken place at the BB King Blues Club on Broadway Boxing. In both fights, Parsley, standing 6’2”, used his exceptional height to his advantage in winning unanimous decisions over Eberto Medina in a four-rounder then graduating to six rounds in defeating David Lopez.

Delen “Sniper” Parsley, second from the left

After winning the New York Golden Gloves as a novice in 2008, light heavyweight Joe Smith Jr., of Mastic, NY, turned professional on Halloween 2009 in explosive fashion. Smith, now 6-1 (6 KOs), started his pro career with four first-round knockouts followed by two second-round stoppages. However, when he steps back into the ring on July 30 at the Aviator, it will be at the same venue at which he sustained his first defeat, a fourth-round TKO to Eddie Caminero last August, that saw him suffer a broken jaw.

Keisher "Fire" McLeod-Wells To Fight For The NYS Championship Title

Keisher "Fire" McLeod-Wells will fight in her first 8 round match for a NYS Title Championship bout on July 30, 2011. The fight is being promoted by DiBella Entertainment and is part of his New York Boxing Series.

Keisher “Fire”McLeod-Wells steps back into the ring on July 30th against Melissa “Mighty” McMorrow at The Aviator Sports & Event Center.

McLeod-Wells (4-1) is coming off a unanimous decision win on February 9th, 2011 against current NYS Champion Melissa "Mighty" McMorrow. In what was a tough outing, McLeod-Wells won a unanimous decision by showing her boxing skills to her opponent and is now looking forward to a well deserved rematch to win the NYS Championship Belt in her next challenge. That challenge will come again with McMorrow from California, now (5-2-3) who herself is coming off a split decision win on June 24, 2011 over Eileen Olszewski from New York.

McLeod-Wells is looking forward to returning the NYS Championship Belt back to New York where it belongs.

Former Cruiserweight Champion Bobby Gunn to go to Battle in Bareknuckle Brawl‏

Four time cruiserweight champion Bobby “The Celtic Warrior” Gunn has made a name for himself in the square ring due to his ability to throw hands, exceptional knockout power and heart of a lion. He has achieved what many aspiring boxers dream of, but he’s not done yet.

On August 5 Gunn will be taking on MMA fighter Chris Thompson in a bareknuckle boxing match in Scottsdale, Arizona, under London Prize Ring rules.

This will be the first organized bareknuckle boxing event since 1889 when John Sullivan defeated Jake Kilrain after a 75 round marathon fight to be declared the champion. In two weeks Gunn will look to add another championship title to his already impressive resume.

“I am very excited for this fight. Fans watch fights to see guy’s trade punches, and we are going to put on a show,” said Gunn. “Everything has to have a starting point. I believe this can be the sport of the future. It’s the original form of boxing.”

Bareknuckle fighting is nothing new to Gunn, who has over 60 bouts under his belt throughout the world. Gunn wanted to have a bareknuckle contest with former MMA fighter Kimbo Slice not too long ago, but the fight never happened. While many critics and skeptics think bareknuckle brawling is too vicious, Gunn assures people that it is quite safe.

“Not only is the bareknuckle match an organized event with ring doctors, it is a fight between two professionals”, said Gunn. “This isn’t a back alley bum fight or bar fight. Safety is a big issue, and they have it covered.”

When MMA first emerged onto the scene, many believed the sport was barbaric and dangerous, but studies have shown that it is safer than boxing because of all the safety precautions taken. This is due to the ongoing and accrued punishment a boxer may experience throughout a fight, as opposed to one or two blows a MMA fighter may suffer before the fight is called.

“I want to make this sport cleaner, and show people that it’s not as ferocious as they think,” said Gunn. “We are going to show people that it’s not barbaric, and that’s the truth.”

Dominick Scibetta, Bobby Gunn’s trainer, elaborated on the difference between bareknuckle fighting and boxing.

“Bareknuckle fighting is a different style than boxing,” said Scibetta. “You don’t have as many head shots because fighters don’t want to break their hands, and there are certain areas you want to hit a guy. Bobby has a lot of experience with this, so we have been focusing a great deal on conditioning for this fight.”

Gunn is adamant about thanking his team for their ongoing support and getting him ready for another big fight.

“I want to thank all of my team, Dominick Scibetta, Kyle White, Al Ross and Renato Colantoni for always supporting and standing behind me!”

McBride predicting victory on the 29th; ‘I’m the champ!’ Confident McBride predicting victory against undefeated Wach on the 29th

The man who ended Mike Tyson’s reign atop the heavyweight division six years ago is threatening to put an end to another promising career before it has a chance to blossom.

Clones, Ireland veteran Kevin McBride (35-9-1, 29 KOs) might be considered the heavy underdog on Friday, July 29th, 2011 at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn., but he’s predicting another major upset against undefeated Polish heavyweight Mariusz Wach (24-0, 12 KOs) in the main event of “Heat Wave,” presented by Jimmy Burchfield’s Classic Entertainment & Sports in association with Global Boxing Promotions.

The two are fighting in the 12-round main event for the vacant World Boxing Council (WBC) International heavyweight title, a belt once held by former world champions John Ruiz, David Tua, Oleg Maskaev and Oliver McCall, along with current heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko.

“I’m here to win,” McBride said Thursday at the Global Boxing Gym during the third leg of CES’ east-coast publicity tour. “God bless him – he’s undefeated and he has 24 wins, but I’m the champ. I’ve got more knockouts than he has wins.

“He better watch out. I know I’m still the underdog like I was against Tyson, but I feel I have the punch that can be the equalizer against anyone in the world.”

McBride is so confident he’ll win the title, he’s even gone as far as to plan his next move.

“I’m saving the fireworks for the 29th,” he said. “After I beat him, I’d like to fight [undefeated prospect] Tyson Fury and then take my shot at a world title.”

Even after beating Tyson in 2005, McBride never got a shot at world title before retiring two years later. Six months after his comeback fight in October of 2010, McBride fought former cruiserweight champion Tomasz Adamek for the North American Boxing Organization (NABO) and International Boxing Federation (IBF) International heavyweight titles, but lost a unanimous 12-round decision.

“He got tired of running around the ring because Adamek wouldn’t fight him!” Burchfield said.

A win over Wach on the 29th would bring McBride one step closer to a shot at that elusive world title.

“He’s worked real hard,” said McBride’s manager, Jerry Quint. “He’s putting his heart and soul into this fight.”

For Wach, the stakes are equally high; with a perfect 24-0 record, he’s now ranked 13th in the WBC and is on the cusp of a major title fight if he can get past McBride next Friday.

“This fight means a lot to me. It can open a lot of doors, or those doors could be closed,” Wach said. “I’ve spent the past three months putting in endless hours training. The plan is in place; I just hope he doesn’t break my plans for the future.”

“This is what boxing needs,” Burchfield added. “Someone is going to get knocked out. There is no doubt about that.”

Wach, who last fought on Feb. 19 in a knockout win over Jonathan Haggler, has benefited from the tutelage of trainers Juan and Carlos De Leon, who are known throughout boxing for their work with undefeated heavyweight “Baby” Joe Mesi.

“He’s a lot like Mesi,” Carlos De Leon said. “I feel as though I have a future heavyweight champion on my hands.”

Next week’s WBC International heavyweight title bout between Wach and McBride is one of two title fights at Mohegan Sun; Former world-title challenger Elvin Ayala (23-5-1, 11 KOs) of New Haven, Conn., will face Israel “Pito” Cardona (36-10, 28 KOs) of Hartford for the vacant WBC United States National Boxing Council (USNBC) middleweight title, a title once held by former world champions Paul “The Punisher” Williams and Lamont Peterson.

The undercard includes New Haven welterweight Edwin Soto (6-0-1, 2 KOs) battling Michael Denby (3-11-4, 2 KOs) of Felton, Del.; and undefeated heavyweight Artur Spzilka of Poland (5-0, 3 KOs) facing Philadelphia’s David Williams (6-4-1, 2 KOs). Cruiserweight Jose Torres of Springfield, Mass., will make his debut against fellow newcomer Pedro Rivera of Southbridge, Mass.; super middleweight Greg McCoy (2-3-1, 1 KO) of New Haven will fight in a separate four-round bout against Worcester’s Ralph Johnson (0-1); and super middleweight Keith Kozlin (6-2, 4 KOs) of Warwick, R.I., will face Woonsocket’s Reynaldo Rodriguez (5-2, 2 KOs) in a six-round intrastate showdown. The special attraction on July 29th will be an eight-round light middleweight bout featuring Worcester, Mass., veteran and former three-time world champion Jose Antonio Rivera (40-6-1, 24 KOs) against Paul Mpendo (7-7-4, 3 KOs) of Oregon. Junior welterweight Agustine Mauras (1-0, 1 KO) of Lawrence, Mass., will face rival Johnathan Vazquez (4-0, 3 KOs) of New Bedford, Mass., in a rematch of their amateur bout three years ago. All fights and fighters are subject to change.

About The Film

Rising stars Tom Hardy and Joel Edgerton command the screen as two estranged brothers facing the fight of a lifetime in Lionsgate’s WARRIOR, a moving, inspirational action drama from acclaimed director Gavin O’Connor (Miracle).

Haunted by a tragic past, Marine Tommy Conlon (Hardy) returns home for the first time in fourteen years to enlist the help of his father (Nick Nolte) to train for Sparta, the biggest winner-takes-all event in mixed martial arts history. A former wrestling prodigy, Tommy blazes a path toward the championship while his brother, Brendan (Edgerton), an ex-fighter-turned teacher, returns to the ring in a desperate bid to save his family from financial ruin. But when Brendan’s unlikely, underdog rise sets him on a collision course with the unstoppable Tommy, the two brothers must finally confront each other and the forces that pulled them apart, facing off in the most soaring, soul stirring, and unforgettable climax that must be seen to be believed.

A rousing ode to redemption, reconciliation and the power of the human spirit, WARRIOR is also a moving testament to the enduring bonds of family. WARRIOR stars Joel Edgerton (Animal Kingdom, Star Wars: Episode III), Tom Hardy (the upcoming The Dark Knight Rises, Inception, Black Hawk Down), Jennifer Morrison ("House", Star Trek) and Nick Nolte (Tropic Thunder, The Thin Red Line). The film is directed by Gavin O'Connor; screenplay by Gavin O’Connor & Anthony Tambakis & Cliff Dorman and story by Gavin O'Connor & Cliff Dorfman. Lionsgate and Mimran Schur Pictures present a Lionsgate / Mimran Schur Pictures production. A Solaris Entertainment and Filmtribe production.

TITAN FIGHTING CHAMPIONSHIP 19 ON JULY 29 LIVE ON HDNET TO FEATURE NEW MAIN EVENT

Former WWE superstar Bobby Lashley has been pulled from his scheduled fight on July 29 at Titan Fighting Championship 19 (www.TitanFighting.com) due to personal reasons.

Lashley’s next fight for the promotion will now take place on August 26 vs. a yet-to-be-announced opponent.

“Unfortunately, with the things going on in Bobby’s life right now it was not the right time to have him fight,” said Titan CEO Joe Kelly. “Bobby will be the main event on the next Titan FC card on August 26, which will take place in Kansas City and feature other top fighters such as L.C. Davis, Brian Davidson, Eric Marriott and many more.”

With the withdrawal of Lashley comes a refurbished card for Titan FC 19 on Friday, July 29 at the historic Memorial Hall, to be televised live nationally on HDNet (www.HD.net) starting at 10 p.m. ET. The show will now feature two new main events.

Headlining the event will be James Krause, one of the best lightweight prospects in the U.S., taking on former King of the Cage champion and PRIDE veteran Clay French.

“The fight between Krause and French is one that will be action packed from the very start. These two guys are studs and the winner of this fight will find themselves on the top of everyone’s radar,” said Kelly.

The night’s other main event will feature former Olympic silver medalist Sara McMann (2-0) facing Kansas City native Tony Evinger (7-4) in a highly-anticipated female MMA contest. McMann became the first American woman in history to earn a silver medal in freestyle wrestling when she took second place at the Olympic games of 2004.

“Sara is an amazing talent and an American hero; I am very excited to add a fighter like her to the Titan roster. I feel that when it is all said and done Sara could be considered the best female fighter of all time.” Kelly stated.

In Evinger, McMann will find herself across the cage across from a fighter who can also make the claim of being a standout amateur wrestler. An All-State competitor while in High School, Evinger was so accomplished that she was able to wrestle on the boy’s team.

Despite the move from female competitors to male competition, Evinger remained dominant. She utilized her wrestling ability to catapult herself into a successful MMA career that afforded her an opportunity to fight Gina Carano on national television.

Fans in attendance at Memorial Hall or watching live on HDNet on July 19 will also be treated to a deep undercard that will feature UFC veteran Rob “The Rosedale Reaper” Kimmons (22-7) taking on WEC veteran Brendan Seguin (22-16-1).

Kimmons is widely considered the most accomplished mixed martial artist to come from Kansas City. KC fight fans are also familiar with Seguin, as he has made several appearances at Memorial Hall in the past and is best known for his upset victory over current Strikeforce fighter Bobby Voelker in April of 2010. Seguin will look to once again defeat one of Kansas City’s best in their own hometown.

TWELVE YEARS. THREE CLANS. ONE WAR. KNUCKLE takes us inside the brutal, secretive and exhilarating bare-knuckle fighting lives of an Irish Traveler community

Description

An epic 12-year journey into in the world of an Irish Traveler community, KNUCKLE takes us inside their brutal, secretive and exhilarating bare-knuckle fighting lives. Chronicling a history of violent feuding between rival families, the story focuses on two brothers as they fight for their reputations and the honour of their family name.

"Impressively and compulsively shot, Ian Palmer’s film is a fascinating glimpse into a world kept usually very private and certainly just within the Traveling community." - Mark Adams,

Director's Statement

I had never planned to make a film about bare-knuckle boxing. I stumbled across this secretive world and was drawn into it.

In 1997 I knew very little about Travellers and I knew nothing about their feuding and tradition of organised fist fighting. I had been introduced to a Traveller family called the McDonaghs who lived in the small town of Navan about twenty miles north of Dublin. As I got to know the McDonaghs I started to research a film about their family history and traditions.

One of their daughters was due to be married and they asked me if I would video the wedding. I filmed it, and gave the bride and groom the footage. The groom was called Michael Quinn McDonagh and I met his older brothers, James and Paddy, at the reception.

A few weeks later I got a call from one of the brothers' I had met at the wedding, Paddy Quinn McDonagh. His brother James had a fight coming up and they invited me to video it. I shot the fight and it was like a door into a hidden world had opened up before me and I stepped through into the world of bare-knuckle fighting. That first fight was an exhilarating experience and I knew immediately that I wanted to learn more about this world of clan feuding. It turned out to be the beginning of a journey that was to last for the next 12 years.

I had no real plan, I started hanging around and getting to know the three Quinn McDonagh brothers, James, Michael, Paddy and their extended family. Occasionally they would call me if a fight was being organised.

I decided that I would try to make a film from within the family, letting their world reveal itself. My approach was simple; use a small camera, get close and spend as much time with them as possible. It was a method called hanging around.

I worked largely alone and perhaps it was because I had no particular plan that I started to video any fight I heard about and rather than analyse the footage, I would put the tapes away. I was hooked on the thrill of the immediate experience of the fights and found it difficult to take a step back from that to concentrate on how to shape it into a film.

I never intended to film for so many years but I would follow one outbreak of the feud to the next. When the feud temporarily calmed down, usually after a fight had taken place, I never felt that I had reached a conclusion. So I would start filming again when the next round of feuding and fights began.

I filmed with the two other Traveler families, the Joyces and the Nevins, who are involved in this feud but my real focus was on James Quinn McDonagh and his younger brother Michael.

For years the tapes lay in a box in my spare bedroom. The Travllers would ask when the film was coming out but I couldn't finish it. It had gone on too long and I had got into the habit of shooting some material and putting the tapes in the box without looking at them. I had no real idea what material I had.

Finally I decided to contact Ollie Huddleston, a film editor whose work I admired and he agreed to work with me. He then introduced me to my eventual producer, Teddy Leifer

A film emerged from the box of tapes. What started out, as a fascination with bare knuckle fighting became a film about the relationship between brothers. It became a film about sibling rivalry and the destruction caused by the Traveler obligation to defend their family name.

It took 14 years to get there.

AMIR KHAN ALL SET FOR ZAB JUDAH WAKENING

AMIR KHAN ALL SET FOR ZAB JUDAH WAKENING
Zab Judah fights Amir Khan on Saturday July 23rd
By John Dillon

ON the ghetto streets of Brooklyn, Zab Judah learned the same uncompromising motto that fuelled the infamous rage of Mike Tyson.

“Brownsville. Never Ran Never Will,” is the mantra of the tough sons of the murderous neighbourhood of that name, across New York’s East River from the sparkling skyscrapers of Manhattan.

Zab Judah, who fights Amir Khan here on Saturday, once emulated Tyson in creating ring outrages too.

But now he has found God and a whole new meaning to life so that, 11 years after he won his first world title, his renaissance has given him back the first belt he won, the IBF light-welterweight strap.

It will be on the line against Khan’s prized WBA version in a much-anticipated unification battle at Mandalay Bay here on The Strip on Saturday.

Although Judah, 33, says he is a changed man, Khan’s trainer, Freddie Roach, says he is prepared for anything because he knows the back story. Once, back in his wild life, Judah hurled a stool across a Las Vegas ring when he was stopped by Kostya Tszyu in 2001 and lost the IBF belt he had defended successfully five times.

Zab Judah sparked a near-riot when he struck a devastating low blow and followed it with a right hand to the back of his opponent’s neck

At the same fight, he jabbed his fist into the neck of the referee who halted the fight, Jay Nady. He was fined £50,000 by the Nevada State Athletic Commission and was suspended for six months.

In an equally notorious meeting with Floyd Mayweather jnr in 2006, Judah sparked a near-riot when he struck a devastating low blow and followed it with a right hand to the back of his opponent’s neck. Mayweather’s uncle and trainer, Roger Mayweather, leaped into the ring and confronted Judah, whose brother Yoel did the same to Floyd’s cornerman and then threw a punch.

A pile-in from both sides followed and it took 15 police and security officers to restore order, before Mayweather went on to secure a unanimous points win.
