Vicente Escobedo has fought all over the world, represented his country in the Olympics and fought some of the best fighters in the sport throughout his career, but the one thing the top junior lightweight contender has never done is compete in his hometown as a professional. That changes on Saturday, March 3 as Escobedo steps into the ring at the Woodland Community Center in Woodland, Calif. against Lonnie Smith in a 10 round fight for the vacant NABO Junior Lightweight Title which will be televised on TeleFutura's "Sólo Boxeo Tecate."

Joining Escobedo on this exciting homecoming card will be Fairfield's unbeaten featherweight star on the rise, Manuel "Tino" Avila, who faces an opponent to be named in the six round co-main event.

A 2004 United States Olympian who got his start in the sport at the Woodland Boxing Club, Vicente "Chente" Escobedo (24-3, 14 KO's) has come a long way since those early days, and at 30 years old, he is approaching his physical prime as a boxer. The owner of wins over former World Champions Kevin Kelley and Carlos Hernandez, Escobedo lost in his lone world title shot at lightweight via a razor-thin split decision to Michael Katsidis in 2009. Now fighting at 130 pounds, Escobedo has been better than ever, defeating Walter Estrada and Rocky Juarez in his most recent fights and he's ready to make a move on the junior lightweight elite in 2012.

A professional since 2006, 24-year-old Las Vegan Lonnie Smith (14-2-2, 10 KO's) appears to be reaching his prime and is ready to prove it against a tough contender in Escobedo. In 2009 Smith returned from a two-year layoff and came back as a more mature and polished fighter and has been unstoppable since, winning nine in a row, with six coming by knockout, including victories over David Rodela and Eduardo Arcos. Now he takes a big step up in facing Escobedo, a fight he's been waiting for, in Escobedo's hometown.

After winning the purse bids for the Light Heavyweight British Title, David Coldwell has shown that he can do more than match the big boys when it comes to making big fights. Also matchroom has come aboard and the fight will be shown live on Sky Sports on the 14th April.

After the lively press conference, I for one am really looking forward to the fight, Tony Bellew with his typical scouse wit was humorous at the press conferences, and Danny McIntosh gave just as good as he received. There was some bantering between both fighters, but they were able to show mutual respect for each other, yet still had the needle that is needed as both fighters vowed to knock each other out.

Both fighters are coming into this fight on the back of loss, Bellew was unlucky in a world title shot against Cleverly, and McIntosh was unsuccessful in his European title defence against Gutlknecht. Both of these fighters have the reputation as punchers and both fighters have been after this fight for some time.

McIntosh’s manager and trainer Dominic Ingle said “We aren’t in this game to fight for peanuts,” that’s obviously the reason why this fight has not been made before. David Coldwell as shown his willingness to put his money behind this great all British 50/50 fight, let’s hope there is plenty more from David, but I have to say the early signs are great from this young promoter. The fact that matchroom is on board, makes this fight one of the most anticipated shows of 2012. With the excellent price for tickets, David Coldwell announced at the press conference £30-£80 with a special V.I.P package £150.

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. defended his version of the WBC Middleweight Championship this past Saturday, February 4, and as long as Sergio “Maravilla” Martinez follows suit in his upcoming matchup against Matthew Macklin on March 17, promoter Lou DiBella expects the two to meet to determine who is the full and real WBC Middleweight Champion.

“As long as Sergio takes care business on March 17, Chavez must fight him next. Either fight him or he has to vacate his title. It’s plain and simple,” said DiBella. “We are tired of waiting for Chavez to step up to the plate. He needs to stop hiding behind his people and be a real champion. He says that he wants the fight, so then prove it. The WBC ruled in our favor at their convention in December, and the two were both permitted to have voluntary defenses. We don’t want to look past Sergio’s fight on March 17 because he is going to have his hands full with Macklin. If Sergio wins though, I expect negotiations to begin immediately for Sergio against Julio. Immediately!”

The only reason that Chavez has the title now is because Martinez vacated the belt when his mandatory challenger was allegedly not up to television programming standards. If Chavez does not want to meet his mandatory, then the son of the legend should do the honorable thing and vacate his WBC title rather than continuing to face lesser opposition. After the Rubio fight this past Saturday, HBO boxing analyst Jim Lampley candidly stated that Chavez “still has not fought a fighter of legitimate championship quality.”

Martinez (48-2-2, 27KO’s) defends his Middleweight crown against top-rated Irish middleweight contender Matthew “Mack the Knife” Macklin (28-3, 19KOs) on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, at The Theater at Madison Square Garden. Undefeated Puerto Rican welterweight prospect, Thomas Dulorme (13-0-0, 10ko), was scheduled to fight Jose Reynoso (15-3-1, 2ko) on ShoBox, February 17, but Reynoso pulled out with a hip injury. Super middleweight sensation Adonis "Superman" Stevenson, now being trained by Hall of Famer Emanuel Steward in Detroit, is prepared to successfully defend his International Boxing Federation ("IBF") Inter-Continental belt February 18 against former NABF champion Jesus "El Martillo" Gonzales (27-1, 14 KOs) in the 12-round main event that is also an IBF voluntary eliminator for the No. 2 position.

Two-time WBC World Heavyweight Champion Vitali Klitschko will defend his title against Dereck Chisora at the Olympiahalle Munich, Germany on February, 18, 2012.

Dereck „Del Boy“ Chisora is 27 years old and is rated in the Top 15 in the WBC world rankings. From 2010 until 2011, Chisora was the Commonwealth and British heavyweight champion. In his last fight, Chisora lost a very controversial split decision against Robert Helenius in his hometown of Helsinki, Finland. Every boxing fan that watched this fight thought that Chisora clearly won and should be the real European champion. Dereck Chisora‘s fight record is 15 wins (9 KOs) with two defeats.

Dereck Chisora: „Wladimir Klitschko did not fight me last year so I am now going to get the world championship belt from his older brother Vitali. I will show Vitali that his time is over and make him retire. After I beat Vitali, if Wladimir wants revenge I will also fight him and take all their heavyweight championship belts back to London!“

Vitali Klitschko is 40 years old with a professional record of 43-2 with 40 KOs. His two defeats came as a result of injuries and he never lost his title in the ring. Klitschko has the highest knock out percentage of any world champion with 93 percent. Vitali Klitschko is the fourth boxer along with Muhammad Ali, Evander Holyfield and Lennox Lewis to win a heavyweight championship belt for the third time. It will be Klitschko’s 16th World Heavyweight Championship fight in Munich.

His seminal film Enter the Dragon, which was released three weeks after his untimely death, not only became one of the most successful films of all time, it also launched the global martial arts film genre which thrives to this day.

Bruce Lee’s impact on the world of martial arts may be even greater. In the face of thousands of years of tradition, Bruce came to realize that being tied to one classical form of martial arts is debilitating, and can create what he called “a mechanical man.” Exploring the martial arts from both East and West, Bruce created his own ever expanding “style”, which he named JKD, the essence of which is to make a martial artist as efficient as possible in combat, allowing the individual artist to “honestly express” oneself.

Bruce Lee’s contributions went far beyond martial arts on the silver screen. He read and wrote extensively about physical combat, the psychology of fighting, the philosophical roots of martial arts, and about motivation, self-actualization and liberation of the individual. When Bruce Lee died on July 20, 1973, the entire world mourned the passing of a true renaissance man – a shining star and evolved human being. Bruce Lee’s spirit remains an inspiration to untold numbers of people around the world, and I Am Bruce Lee tells his story in a way never seen before.
