The Texas Three-Step is over for popular, unbeaten Mexican superstar and WBC Super Welterweight World Champion Canelo Alvarez and  undefeated WBA Super Welterweight Champion Austin "No Doubt" Trout, who completed their highly successful three-city, two-day press tour in Texas on Thursday.
To infer that the three press conferences, all open to the public, were smashing successes would be an understatement.
Fans lined up around the building to get into the McAllen Convention Center in McAllenTexas, to watch the press conference late Thursday afternoon, the final stop of the Press Tour.  Nearly 1,000 of them had assembled in the room by the time Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya stepped to the dais to begin the proceedings.
Earlier Thursday, more than 500 fans flooded the food court at PlazAmericas Mall in Houston for the press conference.  On Wednesday, the tour began in the fight's host city of San Antonio, at the fight's venue, the Alamodome, where approximately 1,500 fans attended
At each location, the boxers obliged the adoring fans with autographs and posed with them for pictures.
In an eagerly anticipated matchup of talented, exciting, unbeaten boxers, Canelo (41-0-1, 30 KO's), of Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, will take on Trout (26-0, 14 KO's), of Las Cruces, N.M., in a 154-pound world title unification fight on SaturdayApril 20 at the Alamodome in San Antonio live onSHOWTIME® (10:00 p.m. ET/ 7:00 p.m. PT).

Canelo vs. Trout is promoted by Golden Boy PromotionsCanelo Promotions and Leija & Battah Promotions and the fight is presented in association with Greg Cohen Promotions.  The event is sponsored by Corona and AT&T

CANELO ALVAREZ, WBC Super Welterweight World Champion

"I'm very humbled by the attendance (at the press conferences).  I get goose bumps when I get up here with everyone cheering.  I want to thank you for your support.  I'll be prepared as always.  We'll be ready.  Texas has a great vibe.  The people here have a great vibe and that definitely helps me.  It's a pleasure to fight at the Alamodome.  This place has so much history.  I fight for my people.  They're my inspiration.  I carry a great deal of responsibility on my shoulders, because I carry the hopes and dreams of my people.  I'm undefeated and my record is thanks to my people, who support me every step of the way.
"I'm very happy to be in Texas.  This is the very first time I'm fighting here and I can already tell I like it.  I like San Antonio because it has so much history and so many boxing fans.  I want to thank to all my fans for supporting me.  On April 20, if God provides, the crowd will be on my side.
"We are working hard.  My team and I are focused 100 percent on my opponent.  I have great respect for Austin Trout and what he has been able to achieve.  This fight is a complicated one.  He's not only tough but a lefty and he also knows how to keeps his guard with his left.  He's a very intelligent fighter, young, skilled and tough.  It's not going to be an easy task to beat him, but we're working hard and getting ready.  I respect Trout outside of the ring, but once he's in the ring, that's a whole different thing.
"This fight for me is personal.  I know Trout beat my brother.  I was there that day and that made me feel helpless.  Now I'll get the chance to avenge his loss and bring him up to the ring with me when I win.
"Like in life, in sports, there are critics and skeptics.  There's always going to be someone criticizing you.  To fight Trout is not going to quiet down criticism against me, but I honestly don't mind it.  I think all criticism is constructive.
"My daughter motivates me to be better and not to fail.
"I'm ready to fight Floyd Mayweather when he's ready to fight me."
AUSTIN TROUT, WBA Super Welterweight World Champion
"I was born in El Paso, Texas.  This is where I'm from.  I've been around Latinos all my life and I can say I feel like one of you.  Boxing is never going to be dead when there are fans like this (in Texas).  It's a sport that is 200 years old, but when you have a fight like this you know it is alive and well.  Mark my words, on April 20, Texas will win.
"I want to thank the fans.  The fans demanded this fight and made it happen.  I believe that Canelo is a great champion.  I have to thank him for making this happen.  I want to thank the Lord, because I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for Him.
"I'm a fast, hungry champion.  I don't believe that Canelo is the second coming of Oscar De La Hoya.  I do believe that I'm the better fighter.  If I didn't think I could be victorious, I wouldn't be risking my life and limb to face this man.  I wouldn't be risking my undefeated record and my belt if I didn't believe in myself.  I'll be victorious and I'll go home as the unified champion.
"Someone's '0' has got to go.  It sure as hell isn't going to be mine and I'm sure he is saying the same thing.  That's the formula for a great fight.  [Hip-hop artist] Drake said it best, 'Started from the bottom, now we're here.  Started from the bottom, now my whole team's here.'
"I know that Canelo is a hungry champion.  I'm not just hungry.  I'm starving.  I'm ready for April 20."

GOLDEN BOY & LEIJA BATTAH PRESENTS FOX SPORTS BOXING APRIL 13, 2013 @ 7:00PM AMERICAN BANK CENTER ARENA

On Saturday, April 13 at the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, Texas' beloved "Baby Bull," former World Champion Juan Diaz, returns to the ring for the first time since 2010 to face Pipino Cuevas Jr. in the main event televised on FOX Sports Networks, FOX Deportes and FUEL TV.
This exciting card is presented by Golden Boy Promotions and Leija & Battah Promotions and sponsored by Corona. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. PT on fight night and the first bell rings at 7:00 p.m. PT. The FOX Sports Networks telecast will air live at 10:00 p.m. ET/9:00 p.m. CT/7:00 p.m. PT. FOX Deportes will air the fights on Sunday, April 14 at 8:00 p.m. ET/5:00 p.m. PT. FUEL TV will rebroadcast the fight on June 9 at 12:00p.m. ET/9:00 a.m. PT.

A popular figure in his native Texas and around the globe, Houston's Juan Diaz (35-4, 17 KO's) made legions of fans not only for his all-action fighting style in the ring, but also for his class outside the ring, where he insisted on getting his college degree while still competing in the world's toughest sport. A former Unified Lightweight World Champion who held the title belts for nearly four years, defeating Acelino Freitas, Jose Cotto and Julio Diaz along the way, Diaz also went to battle with Juan Manuel "Dinamita" Marquez, Paulie "Magic Man" Malignaggi and Michael Katsidis. Diaz retired from the game in 2010 following his rematch with Marquez in order to focus on his education and entrepreneurial endeavors. Now ready to make another run at a world title, the 29-year-old can't wait to hear the bell ring once again.
Pipino Cuevas Jr. (16-9, 14 KO's) is the son of the longtime WBA Welterweight World Champion and while he hasn't been able to add a world title to the family's trophy case yet, the 33-year-old from Mexico City has definitely inherited his father's power, as evidenced by his 88% knockout percentage. The winner of two of his last three, Cuevas will look to make Diaz regret his decision to return to the ring on April 13.

Bernard Hopkins Wins in a Walk

The Boxing Standard‏
Bernard Hopkins Wins in a Walk
By Eddie Goldman
(Photos By; Keisha Morrisey)
It must be strange to be one of Bernard Hopkins's opponents at the end of a twelve round fight. You're not hurt in any way. You've spent forty six minutes in the ring with a guy who's slow, who doesn't hit very hard, who doesn't give you much movement, and who looks to the referee for help even when no infraction against him has been committed. You're bigger and stronger than he is. You punch a lot harder. You look to be in better shape than Bernard, who, although a world class trainer, is beginning to have an old man body. But somehow you didn't do any of the things that you normally do in a fight, any of the things that you know you can do. You realize that you lost the fight; there's no sense of having been robbed by the judges. And so you wonder, “How did this old guy keep me from fighting my fight?”

Bernard Hopkins only needed to do four or five simple (okay, maybe not simple; no one else seems to know how to do them anymore) things to beat the programmed to do two things only robot Tavoris Cloud. It took Bernard exactly zero seconds to figure out what those things were. And since young fighters are brought to titles these days before they actually know how to fight, Hopkins had his new title in the bag the moment the bell rang. Here's what he did:  He kept Cloud off balance by walking to his (Hopkins's) right, while poking out the jab (which he didn't worry about landing). This allowed him a free right hand (which he was careful to land) all night long. He made sure to have the final slow word in every exchange, which made Cloud worry about exchanging, even though he wasn't getting hurt. He inveigled Cloud into a game of quid pro quo, inviting him to see who was the better fighter at the “you hit me, I hit you” game, which, since Hopkins is an accurate puncher, allowed him to barely have to throw any punches in order to win rounds.
Bernard Hopkins was allowed to lounge around in his living room all night. He might just as well have been wearing bedroom slippers. He's now within challenging range to Archie Moore as boxing's greatest ever near fifty year old.

LOADED BROADWAY BOXING CARD ANNOUNCED FOR APRIL 4 FEATURING FORMER WORLD CHAMPION YURI FOREMAN AND CONTENDERS GABRIEL BRACERO, LUIS DEL VALLE AND WBA #6 RATED WELTERWEIGHT IONUT "JO JO" DAN DBE & 50 CENT'S SMS PROMOTIONS TOP PROSPECTS HIGHLIGHT UNDERCARD

On Thursday, April 4, DiBella Entertainment (DBE) will return to Roseland Ballroom for the latest installment of its Broadway Boxing series.  The stacked 11-bout card will feature a number of DBE's top young prospects and contenders including former WBA junior middleweight champion Yuri Foreman, 29-2, 8KO's, Luis "Orlandito" Del Valle (16-1, 11KO's) and WBC #6-rated welterweight Ionut "Jo Jo" Dan Ion (30-2, 17KO's).  Also appearing on the card in separate bouts will be two of 50 Cent's fighters out of his SMS Promotions stable, Luis Olivares and Donte Strayhorn.

"Our event on April 4 is possibly the most talent-laden Broadway Boxing card we have ever staged," stated promoter Lou DiBella.  "From top to bottom, this card features an amazing array of talent including former world champion Yuri Foreman and title contenders Jo Jo Dan, Gabriel Bracero and Luis Del Valle. We are also featuring some of the most promising prospects on our DBE roster, as well as two of 50 Cent's SMS Promotions young stars.  50 will be in attendance with his fighters, truly making this a can't-miss card for New York fight fans."

"Both Luis and Donte have the skills to be very successful in boxing," said Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson. "I'm excited to have them on the upcoming Broadway Boxing card and to see their progression in the sport. I'm glad they are a part of SMS Promotions."

After a two-year hiatus from the ring, the popular Brooklynite Foreman signed a promotional contract with DBE earlier this year and quickly returned to action, winning a six-round shutout decision over Brendan Baue on the DBE-promoted card on January 23, at BB King Blues Club.  Foreman looked rejuvenated against Baue, boxing beautifully throughout their six-round contest, as his surgically repaired knee seemed to be a thing of the past.  The 32-year-old Foreman is looking to reposition himself for a significant fight in the junior middleweight division some time before the end of 2013.  Foreman's bout is scheduled for six rounds against an opponent TBA.

Making his fourth straight appearance at Roseland Ballroom will be fellow Brooklynite and junior welterweight contender Gabriel "Tito" Bracero (21-1, 4KO's).  After dropping a decision in an absolute war to former world champion DeMarcus "Chop Chop" Corley on January 21, 2012, Bracero has reeled off three consecutive victories as he looks to reposition himself in line for another significant fight in the junior welterweight division. Bracero will see action in an eight-round bout against an opponent TBA.

Looking to put himself back into the win column after suffering his first pro defeat in a decision loss to multiple world champion Vic Darchinyan will be Puerto Rico's Luis "Orlandito" Del Valle (16-1, 11KO's).  The 26-year-old Del Valle, who made a name for himself early in his career fighting on DBE's popular Broadway Boxing series, looked as though he was ready for a world title opportunity before being derailed by the longtime top-rated world champion and now resurgent contender Darchinyan on HBO's Boxing After Dark on September 29, 2012. Since the defeat, Darchinyan has relocated his training camp from Puerto Rico to Mexico and is now training at the famed Romanza Boxing gym in Mexico City, Mexico, under the watchful eye of Hall-of-Fame trainer Nacho Beristain.

Fighting for the second time under the DBE banner will be the former two-time world title challenger Ion. The former NABA light welterweight champion Ion, a native of Romania, but now living and training in Montreal, Canada, has only two losses as a professional both coming in world title bouts to former WBC welterweight champion Selcuk Aydin. In those bouts, Ion traveled into Aydin's backyard and put forth a great effort in two equally action-packed fights, only to come up on the wrong end of two very close decisions.  Aydin went on to lose his title to 2012 "Fighter of the Year" candidate Robert Guerrero, who just recently defended his championship with a brutal 12-round unanimous decision over Andre Berto.

In his DBE debut in December of last year, Ion scored a devastating fifth-round TKO over Franklin Gonzalez.  Rated as the number six welterweight in the WBA world ratings, Ion hopes to secure another title shot sometime this year.  Both Ion and Del Valle's bouts are scheduled for eight rounds against opponents TBA.

Additional bouts on the card and opponents for Foreman, Bracero, Del Valle and Ion will be announced very shortly.

Before making his much anticipated United States debut, undefeated heavyweight contender Tyson Fury(20-0, 14 KOs) has set-up training camp to sink two-time world champion Steve "USS" Cunningham (25-5, 13 KOs), north of the border at beautiful Casino Lac-Leamy in Gatineau, Quebec, Canada.
Team Fury's home-base is far from the home of this massive Irish-Manchurian but Lac-Leamy has quickly become Tyson's second home. The gorgeous facility is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, offering a premium gaming experience in Canada. On the premises is the stunning Hilton Lac-Leamy Hotel, providing five-star accommodations fit for a boxing superstar such as Fury.

Fury vs. Cunningham headlines an exciting event, co-promoted by Hennessy Sports and Main Events, on Saturday afternoon, April 20, airing live from The Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Their 12-round main event is an official International Boxing Federation (IBF) Heavyweight Voluntary Eliminator for the No. 2 position, pitting No. 8 rated Fury against the No. 12 ranked Cunningham. Also rated No, 4 by the World Boxing Council (WBC) and No. 6 by the World Boxing Organization (WBO), Fury is the reigning Irish heavyweight champion.
"I have had training camps all over the world," the charismatic Fury said, "and so far Casino Lac-Leamy ranks right at the top. I have everything at my disposal here - atmosphere, facilities, and nearby running trails - to get me in the best shape of my career for April 20."
Already considered one of the best heavyweights in the world, ranked No. 9 by The Ring Magazine, Fury will battle Philadelphia fan-favorite Cunningham with the winner earning a shot at the IBF No. 1 ranked fighter - currently Kubrat Pulev - to become the mandatory challenger to current heavyweight king and future Hall of Famer, Wladimir Klitschko.
"I truly feel I'm ready to conquer the heavyweight division," the outspoken Fury remarked. "Steve Cunningham is the toughest test of my career, but I've made a name for myself by passing those tests again and again. I've taken camp to Canada this time in order to make sure that trend continues."
Fans may tune-in to watch the expected action-packed fight at 4 p.m. ET on NBC as part of a special 2-hour afternoon presentation of NBC Sports Fight Night. This marks only the third time boxing has been on network television in the U.S. since 1993.

Bradley vs. Provodnikov takes place on Saturday, March 16

BOXING TONITE; Bradley vs. Provodnikov takes place on Saturday, March 16, under the stars at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif., and is promoted by Top Rank®, in association with Banner Promotions and Tecate.  Timothy Bradley has been a world champion since 2008, first as a junior welterweight, where he twice unified the titles, and now as a welterweight.  Timothy will be making the first defense of the World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight title he won by beating Manny Pacquiao last summer.  The bout will be broadcast live on HBO World Championship Boxing®, beginning at 10:15 P.M. ET / PT.
TIMOTHY BRADLEY JR:  I want to thank Top Rank, Cameron Dunkin, my wife and my team, The Home Dept Center and HBO.  Training camp has been going well and I am 100%.  I can’t wait to get into the ring on the 16th.  It is a big challenge and I am excited about it.   I know Ruslan Provodnikov is a tough guy and is going to bring the fight to me.  I am confident I am going to get the job done and I am going to be victorious once again.

TIMOTHY BRADLEY JR:  Every fight from here on out is a statement fight, especially coming after the Pacquiao fight.  I am looking to make a statement in this fight and I am looking to damage this guy.  I am looking to put this guy out.  I don’t want to go 12 rounds with this guy.  The longer he stays around the more confident he will get so I want to get him out of there as soon as possible.
How does Provodnikov match in power with others you have fought?
TIMOTHY BRADLEY JR:  I don’t know about his knockout power.  I’m not worried about his power.  He needs to worry about my power.  I am not worried about anything he is going to bring.  He is going to stand in the middle of the ring.  I know exactly how to beat this guy – outbox him.  Provodnikov has to worry about me, I am not worried about him.
How are you at 147?
TIMOTHY BRADLEY JR:  The speed is still there and the power will be there.  In camp we have been working on a lot of techniques and turning over my shots and making them harder and more effective.  The sparring partners are asking what am I doing differently because my shots are a lot harder now.
One of your sparring partners beat Ruslan?  Have you spoken to him about that fight?
TIMOTHY BRADLEY JR:  Mauricio [Herrera], he’s a tough cookie.  He always comes in great shape and has good defense.  We sparred yesterday.  He told me “you come to fight, every single day,” and he makes me work hard.  He told me don’t exchange with him.  He will apply pressure the whole fight but it is smart pressure.  He is going to eat a lot of shots but will always be in front of your face.
How as your life changed since the Pacquiao fight?
TIMOTHY BRADLEY JR:  The Pacquiao made me grow as a person and as a fighter and it made me realize who was important and who was not important and what is important in my career.  What is not important is what people’s perception of me is.  Everyone has an opinion and they can say whatever they want to say but it’s not going to stop me from what I do and that’s kick but in the ring.  What’s important is my family and I pay attention to my career and stop worrying about everyone else’s career and what they are making.  I just need to focus on my career and my life.  Stop reading all this garbage that all these people are writing about me.  I stopped reading columns  - I used to read it all the time now I don’t read it at all.
What were the things that upset you the most?
TIMOTHY BRADLEY JR:  I don’t get any credit after the Pacquiao fight, whatsoever.   People talk about me, my style, that I’m boring.  Some people talk about my wife, my kids.  People sent me death threats after the fight because I won undeservingly.  I should have given the belt back.  A lot of different things went on.  I can talk all day about things that people said about me.  But it doesn’t matter – none of these people are going to get in the ring with me.  People can say whatever they want – it is a free country – so I am going to say whatever I want, when I want to say it and how I want to say it.  Those people don’t know me at all.  If you get to know me, if you know what I go through, how I train and you still talk crap about me, then you have the problem.  No one knows what I go through to prepare for my fights. People need to sell papers I guess.  I am the nicest guy you will ever meet on the street, ever.
How did you get death threats?
TIMOTHY BRADLEY JR:  Mail and phone calls.  I didn’t report anything.  I am in my house and nobody will mess with me when I’m in my house.  I didn’t really take them seriously.  People were mad but I didn’t think they would come to my house and take me out I don’t think that would ever happen

RUSLAN PROVODNIKOV:  I think everything is going to be fine.  The training camp is great and I feel great at 147.  I do weigh a little more and it is easier now than it normally is at this time two weeks out.
Do you plan to stay at 147 or go back down?
RUSLAN PROVODNIKOV: I don’t know what my plans are going to be after this fight.  Realistically I have always been waiting for a fight against Tim Bradley and I would have taken the fight with him at 140 or 147.  I think I can beat him at any weight class.
FREDDIE ROACH:  Ruslan is a very good 147-pounder who happens to be able to make 140.    147 is easier to make but it is still no walk in the park.  We have to watch his diet.  He weighs about 153 right now so he is in striking distance.  He feels pretty strong at the weight and I think he will be a better puncher at the weight.  I like him at 147 more than I like him at 140.
How many fights have you been his trainer?
FREDDIE ROACH:  I have trained him the last three fights, I just haven’t been able to get to the fight with him because of conflicts with Pacquiao and other fighters.  I had my friend and assistant Eric Brown help me out a bit and he did a great job.  Right now everything is falling into place and I’ll be in the corner this time also.  (fourth fight in camp, first fight in corner).
How do you feel about the possibility of Ruslan getting the win against Bradley where Manny didn’t?
FREDDIE ROACH:  I never really think about that.  I keep them separated.  What happened, happened and there is nothing we an do about it.  This is a big fight for Ruslan – the biggest fight of his life.  It is a great opportunity and I’m happy he has the opportunity.  I always thought he was stronger and the bigger puncher of the two.  I love his chances to win by knockout.
MATT ROWLAND:  Ruslan is taking this fight because it is the biggest fight we could make.   He is fighting Tim Bradley who has only fought welterweight twice.  So we are not dealing with a big welterweight and he wasn’t a big puncher at 140 so he shouldn’t be a big puncher at 147, so weight will definitely not be an issue.
Bradley is using a sparring partner that beat Provodnikov…
FREDDIE ROACH:  I think he is a different fighter than the one that lost.  I think it is a smart thing for them to do.  We got the best sparring partners we could to emulate Bradley.  We spent a lot of money going out and getting the right guys and they did the same thing.  The thing is when they get in the ring at match up on fight night it won’t be anything like the sparring.  That’s how you get ready for big fights.
RUSLAN PROVODNIKOV: I heard that Bradley is using Herrera for sparring but they don’t know what kind of preparations I had for that fight or what kind of trainer I had.  My training camp now is completely different and I don’t think I lost that fight anyway.  I have been improving and with my new trainer and strength-and-conditioning coach [Gavin MacMillan] working with me and I going to be even more different than I was in the last couple of fights.

Joseph ‘King Kong’ Agbeko Pleads To Ghanaians: Support Me To Beat Luis Melendez For The Vacant IBO Bantamweight Title! Former IBF Bantamweight champion, Joseph Agbeko (28-4, 22KOs) is pleading with Ghanaians to come to the Accra Sports Stadium in their numbers to support him to win the vacant International Boxing Organisation against Luiz (34-8-1, 25KOs).
After losing twice to Mexican undefeated boxer Abner Mares Martinez who is the current WBC Super Bantamweight Champion in 2011, Ghanaian boxer, Joseph King Kong Agbeko will be making amends with a comeback fight against Colombian Luiz Melendez Alvarez for the vacant IBO Bantamweight title.
The bout is scheduled for March 22 at the Accra Sports Stadium. Joseph King Kong Agbeko spoke to GhanaCelebrities.Com after a media workout for the bout that promises to be exciting.
GhanaCelebrities.Com: Can you tell us little information about your bout against Luis Melendez?
Joseph Agbeko:  My name is Joseph King Kong Agbeko. I’m preparing for my upcoming fight against Luis Melendez for the vacant IBF Bantamweight championship. This fight is going to place in Accra Sports Stadium, Ghana on March 22. I have been in the gym for some time now; I have been working very hard.
I’m very fit right now. We are working on lots of things. I’m in very good condition, very good tactical training. Very fit physically, psychological, mentally I’m ready to bout.
GhanaCelebrities.Com: I can see you are training vigorously. What’s your training routine like?
Joseph Agbeko:  I have been doing gym work in the morning. I also do lots of road work in the evening. I think everything is going on well now. I’m very fit to face Luiz Melendez.
GhanaCelebrities.Com: I’m sure you have watched or seen videos of your opposite. How would you access him?
Joseph Agbeko:  I have watched him several times. He’s very durable. He takes his time to fight. He takes his time to make sure he gets the target before he throws a punch. He doesn’t just go in like that. He can endure punishment. He’s very strong. He’s been fighting 12 rounds for a very long time. He’s very experienced. He’s had a lot of fights. So I know I’m not just going to stand in front of just a normal boxer but a boxer who is very experienced. I believe with my hard work at training, it will pay off come bout day.
GhanaCelebrities.Com: From what you have said, it looks like you really know him. How can you access your chances against him?
Joseph Agbeko:  I believe March 22 is going to be a big day for me and Ghanaians. I believe Luis Melendez is coming out with all his guts. But with my preparation, I know definitely we will come out victorious. If not knockout then unanimous decision in my favour.
GhanaCelebrities.Com: What’s your final message to Ghanaians as you embark on the journey to be a World Champion once again?
Joseph Agbeko:  I want all Ghanaians to come to the stadium in their numbers. I really need their support, most importantly for this particular fight being staged in Ghana. I need them to cheer me, to motivate me, to push me harder for me to be able to win this fight. It’s not a fight for Joseph Agbeko but it’s a fight for the entire nation. So they have to come in their numbers to support me.
GhanaCelebrities.Com: Thank you Agbeko and good luck.
Joseph Agbeko:  Thank you too!

ARREOLA VS. STIVERNE WBC WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP ELIMINATION BOUT ON APRIL 27

ARREOLA VS. STIVERNE WBC WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP ELIMINATION BOUT
SATURDAY * APRIL 27 * 3 PM CITIZENS BUSINESS BANK ARENA

The beat goes on. Riverside’s Chris “The Nightmare” Arreola (35-2, 30 KOs) will fight Bermane Stiverne (22-1-1, 20 KOs) of Las Vegas on Saturday, April 27 at the Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, California said Dan Goossen, president of Goossen Tutor Promotions.
Arreola and Stiverne, the WBC #1 and #2 world rated heavyweights, respectively, face each other in the ”Boxing BeforeDark“ 12-round WBC World Championship Heavyweight Elimination main event, with the winner guaranteed to immediately fight for the World Championship.

Rescheduled after Arreola was forced to postpone a previously scheduled fight with Stiverne due to illness, the crowd-pleasing heavyweight was thrilled with the new date.
“I’m glad we were able to reschedule this terrific heavyweight matchup so the boxing fans can look forward to an exciting night of action on HBO® with the heavyweight showdown between Cristobal Arreola and Bermane Stiverne,” said Kery Davis, Senior Vice President of Programming, HBO® Sports.
“The illness that forced me to pull out of the fight was unfortunate but I am very happy to once again be healthy and thankful to my promoter Goossen Tutor and HBO for rescheduling my fight,” stated Arreola. ”Being less than 100% against an opponent like Stiverne and in a fight of this magnitude would not have been the best decision for my career. I’m back in training camp, completely healthy and fully motivated for April 27.”
Said Dan Goossen, ”Heavyweights, especially hard-hitting, aggressive heavyweights, always get the fans excited, and this is a perfect fight to display that excitement.”
Said Stiverne, ”The thing about Arreola is he’s a tough customer, but I have noticed that all of his opponents seem to fight the same way.  They come into the ring with great intentions before falling into his traps.  They have a game plan but they seem to forget.  They follow the plan for a few rounds and then they let him take over.  I will not do that.  I’m bringing my ax to the fight and I’m going to chop the tree down.”
“Arreola is successful at intimidation but you can’t intimidate me.  The fans are going to see the best Bermane Stiverne there is.  I plan to impress and move to the next level.”
“This fight with Arreola became personal for me after the postponement.  I’ve been going back and forth for so long waiting for this fight to happen that I’m now taking this personally.  Time spent with my friends and family has been taken away from me, so it’s good he and I are finally going to get it on in Southern California on April 27.”
“It’ll be a great fight between Arreola and Stiverne,” Stiverne’s promoter, Don King, predicted. ”It’s the next step in bringing the world championship back to America. The fight is a must see.”
In addition, being showcased that night will be Olympian twin brothers from Norwalk, CA, Javier (13-1, 5KOs), the 2008 US Olympian and Oscar Molina (2-0, 1KO), the 2012 Mexican Olympian. Also featured in a 4-round bout, the pride of the Ten Goose Gym, up-and-coming Juan Funez (1-0) of Van Nuys.
