New road warrior Gabriel Campillo entering enemy territory with upset victory over Tavoris Cloud in mind
Campillo (21-3-1, 8ko) says he and trainer Pablo Sarmiento had a fantastic camp, working with middleweight champion (and Campillos' manager) Sergio Martinez, who is also in heavy training for his upcoming fight (versus Matthew Macklin).
"Few people are giving me a shot in this fight and that just motivates me more to prove them wrong," said the eager Campillo. "This won't be the first time I've gone to another country and returned home an upset victor," continued the Madrid, Spain, native. Campillo has a point. He won his WBA title from an Argentinian in Argentina (Hugo Hernan Garay), defended it successfully against a Kazakhstani in Kazakhstan (Beibut Shumenov), and in his last fight, an IBF eliminator, fought to a draw with a German-based Iraqi in Germany (Karo Murat).
Promoter Sampson Lewkowicz of Sampson Boxing, Campillo's promoter, is with his fighter and recommends the live audience and television viewers that night prepare themselves.
"Gabriel had a fantastic camp and he is fully ready to spring a surprise on Tavoris Cloud on Saturday. He is always at his best when he comes into another fighter's territory and is not expected to win. After the fight, the only ones who are not in shock will be our team.
"We know what's coming."

US based Ghanaian boxer Osumanu Adama ready for IBF title fight against Geale
The former Ghana Middleweight champion now fighting out of Joliet, Illinois takes on home favourite and champion David Geale at the Derwent Entertainment Centre, Hobart, Tasmania, Australia on Wednesday March 7.
It will be only the second defence for Geale who won the title back in May last year in Germany but one which the Australian (26-1, 15 KOs) has earmarked as his last on home soil and is seeking to impress his countrymen as well as set up bigger fights.
“Victory is imperative in order to set up a unification fight abroad in the middle of the year.
“Whilst his team negotiates with (WBC Diamond Middleweight champ) Sergio Martinez, (WBO Middleweight king) Dmitry Pirog and (WBA Super World Middleweight champion) Felix Sturm, Daniel (Geale) never looks past the fight ahead and remains totally focused on the next challenger,” read a statement on Geale nicknamed the Real Deal’s official website http://www.danielgeale.com.au.
But Adama nicknamed Machine Gun (20-2, 15 KOs) who has been training fervently under the guidance of his coach Joseph Awinongya, is as confident as ever.
The Ghanaian has vowed to defeat the Australian to finally fulfil the childhood dream of becoming a boxing world champion.
He told ALL SPORTS from his US base: “We are ready to go and nothing is stopping me from winning this title.
“I am in training camp, everything is perfect and we thank God for everything.
“I still need my support from Ghana as well as their prayers on 7th March which is Independence Day 6th March in Ghana.”

Martinez and Macklin go head-to-head
Pressure fighting Irishman Matthew Macklin (28-3-0, 19ko) and unorthodox Argentine Sergio Martinez (48-2-2, 27ko) lace their gloves up for a St Patrick's day fisticuffs on March 17 inside New York City's historic Madison Square Garden and the two middleweights engaged in the customary head-to-head prior to a world championship fight that has The Ring magazine title on the line. Andy Lee is the co-feature who is facing an, as yet, undetermined opponent.

Matthew Macklin warns Sergio Martinez: The Irish are coming!
Former world title challenger Matthew Macklin has a message for St Patrick's Day opponent and lineal middleweight champion Sergio Martinez - "the Irish are coming!" Macklin, 29, attempts to unseat Martinez from his throne in the 160lb weight class on March 17 at Madison Square Garden in New York City and is calling on Irish fans from all over the world to support him at the ground dubbed; The World's Most Famous Arena.
Prior to 2011, Macklin - a former Irish, British and European champion - had fought predominantly on the domestic and continental circuit. One fight last summer, though, propelled him into international stardom as he took on long-reigning Super WBA middleweight titlist Felix Sturm in Cologne, Germany.
Macklin (28-3-0, 19ko) took the fight to Sturm, fought constantly from the opening minute to the last and was largely expected to receive a deserved decision victory on points, however, on all three judges' scorecards he was on the losing side.
Despite the controversial defeat, Macklin had made a name for himself and the performance itself was perceived - by Lou DiBella of DiBella Entertainment - to be worthy of adding him to his own stable of fighters and matching the England-born Irishman with his premier boxer; Maravilla Martinez (48-2-2, 27ko).
"As I have done throughout my entire career I will go up a notch for this fight," said Macklin this week. "Sergio is going to bring the best out of me and I am very confident in my mind that I will be the new middleweight champion come March 17.
He continued: "Fighting at The Garden on St Patty's Day - it's going to be like I'm fighting in Dublin. The Irish are coming from all over the world to see this [and] the atmosphere is going to be electric!
"It is an honour to have the opportunity to fight here at MSG where so many great fights have taken place. I am proud and privileged to be a part of this great tradition."
Providing the co-support to Macklin and Martinez's main event is technically-savvy Andy Lee, a product of Emanuel Steward's renowned Kronk Gym set-up in Detroit and, like Macklin, a pugilist cut from Irish cloth. Lee is a fast-rising contender in the middleweight division and enjoyed a breakout 2011 as he stopped Craig McEwan in a thrilling Celtic War in March, won a one-sided decision over tough journeyman Alex Bunema in May, before avenging his only defeat by boxing smart and overseeing Brian Vera with ease in October.
On the St Patrick's Day undercard, Lee (27-1-0, 19ko) is currently without an opponent, but has the fists and experience to compete for a world title later in the year - something promised to him by promoter DiBella. "I want to thank Lou for letting me showcase myself on this show," Lee said.
"There is nothing more I can wish for then to have this opportunity to fight at MSG on St Patrick's Day. I consider myself as a serious contender and I hope to get my title shot in 2012. I'm not sure who my opponent is going to be yet, but I promise you a good St. Patty's Day beating."

Andy Lee vs Brian Vera October 1, 2011, at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey
The co-feature will be a rematch of one of the most exciting fights of 2008, as NABF and NABA middleweight champion Andy Lee (26-1, 19 KOs) attempts to avenge his only loss against the newest member of the DiBella Entertainment stable, Brian Vera (19-5, 12 KOs).
Brian Vera signs promotional contract with DiBella Entertainment
DiBella Entertainment has added middleweight contender Brian Vera to its stable of fighters. Vera, 29, is a Mexican-American from Austin, TX, who is a straightforward brawler capable winning big fights, no matter what the odds are. In his 24-fight career, Vera (19-5, 12 KOs) has upset the applecart, and top middleweights, on several occasions.
In his last bout on June 24, Vera impressively stopped Eloy Suarez with a body shot in the eighth round.
“There are boxers, there are runners, and then there are fighters. Brian Vera is a fighter and he will give anyone in the middleweight division a fight,” said Lou DiBella, President of DiBella Entertainment. “Just look at his record and you will see that Brian Vera has never backed down from a challenge. That's the kind of guy that anyone would be happy to promote.”
After winning fourteen consecutive fights between 2004 and 2007 to begin his career, Vera joined the cast of season three of The Contender reality television show. In his first bout as a member of the cast, he lost the first fight of his career, a second round knockout at the hands of eventual finalist Jaidon Codrington. Vera made his mark on the show, however, when he returned on the undercard of the finals bout between Codrington and Sakio Bika, by winning a clear cut unanimous decision over fellow show participant Max Alexander.
One fight later, in the biggest win of his career, Vera got off the deck to stop the then-undefeated and highly touted prospect Andy Lee in the seventh round in March 2008.
Since then, Vera has refused to back down from a challenge. He has gotten in the ring with some of the top names in and around the middleweight decision. His wins over Sebastian Demers and The Contender season one winner Sergio Mora have propelled him into a full-fledged middleweight contender. His losses to James Kirkland, Craig McEwan, Issac Rodrigues, and Maksym Bursak have only enforced Vera’s reputation as an all action warrior who won’t back down from a challenge.
“Fighting big names is what motivates me,” said Vera. “With DiBella Entertainment I want to take on all comers and eventually get my chance at the middleweight championship.”
Vera’s DiBella Entertainment debut is anticipated for this fall. Full details will be announced in the coming days.

“Noche de ‘Maravilla’” featuring Sergio “Maravilla” Martinez defending his middleweight title vs. “Dazzling” Darren Barker on Oct 1 in Atlantic City
“I want to thank HBO and DiBella Entertainment and Sampson Lewkowicz, my adviser. I also want to thank Darren and all of his team.”
“I hope to see everyone on October 1.”
Darren Barker, Challenger:
“It’s nice to see this New York sun keeping my belt warm.”
“I am from London, my father was a boxer; I grew up around boxing. I’ve dedicated my life to this sport. I had over amateur 100 fights, fighting in hostile environments in other countries and coming away with medals. I live for that moment.”
“There is a great series of movies, Rocky. They captured the mentality of the underdog. If the favorite always won in sport, it wouldn’t be any fun. I’m here to prove that the underdog can cause a massive upset. So, you may not know who I am now, but come October 1, you will know exactly who ‘Dazzling’ Darren Barker is.”
Lou DiBella, Promoter of “Noche de ‘Maravilla’”:
“We believe this will be Maravilla’s night, but there is a man, ‘Dazzling’ Darren Barker, who wanted this fight. He called for this fight. And you should reward those who want the big fights.”
“There are plenty of $50 tickets, so this is an affordable night of great boxing.”
“HBO has made a commitment to Sergio Martinez since he came to America. HBO has made a commitment to showcasing the best of boxing.”
“Sergio Martinez respects Darren Barker and that’s why this fight is happening. Darren took to twitter and, bizarrely, that is how this fight happened. Eddie Hearn and I basically did the negotiations over twitter. This might be the first major fight ever made over twitter.”
“Sergio Martinez is a great champion. Not only one of the best fighters I’ve ever promoted, but one of the best guys I’ve ever promoted. He’s an extremely bright guy with a wonderful social consensus. He is, in fact, maravilla.”
Eddie Hearn, Barker’s Promoter:
“This fight was made in about 20 minutes on twitter, but that’s the relationship we have with Lou.”
“It’s been interesting talking to the press today, and they’re asking me who Darren Barker is. In England, he’s well renowned, but we quite like not being known. Darren has never even been in a fight where he has remotely been in trouble, so it’s hard to say how good Darren Barker is.”
“When we signed Darren Barker, we sat down and looked at the future, and he said to us ‘you might think I’m crazy, but if you ever get the chance to make a fight with Sergio Martinez, make it happen.’ And that’s why we take our hat off to Darren. He wants to fight the best middleweight in the world, because if you beat the best middleweight in the world, you are the best middleweight in the world. On October 1, Darren has the chance to become the best middleweight in the world.”
“Darren is a determined young man who has been through a lot of trials and tribulations, but he has remained committed to his dream. And [the press conference] is part of the dream, but it’s only half of the dream. We believe we can shock the world, and we wouldn’t be here otherwise.”
Kery Davis, Senior VP Programming for HBO Sports:
“What can you say about Sergio Martinez? 2010 FOY of the year, 2010 KOY, a great start to 2011 with a knockout of Sergiy Dziniziruk. This is Sergio’s sixth appearance on the network and he always puts on a great performance. He is quick, powerful, charismatic, and I swear Lou and Sampson are going to announce soon that they have signed him with Dos Equis to play “The Most Interesting Man in the World.”
“In looking at tapes of Darren Barker, he has a tremendous background. And he impressed us quite a bit with something he said leading up to this. He said he has been fighting for 16 years and its all leading up to this. That is the kind of fighting spirit we are looking for.”
Ken Condon, Representative of Caesars Atlantic City:
“Tickets are very reasonable for this level of fight, starting at $50 going up to $300 for ringside. This will be Sergio’s fourth fight in Atlantic City and he has developed a following here. It has become his home away from home.”
“From what I’ve heard, not too many people what to fight Sergio Martinez, but Darren Barker stepped up to the plate. I urge people to come down, enjoy the fall in Atlantic City, and enjoy your weekend on the shore.”
Jim Mercante, Representative of the World Boxing Council:
“We are here on a hot, hot day for New York to kick off what is going to be a hot, hot fight. This is the type of fight that my father, Arthur Mercante, would have wanted to referee.”
“Noche de ‘Maravilla’: Martinez vs. Barker” is being presented by DiBella Entertainment in association with Matchroom Sport, and Caesars Atlantic City, and is sponsored by Corona. The show will be aired live on HBO’s World Championship Boxing®, beginning at 10:00 PM ET/7:00 PM PT.

In a statement released by the WBC on May 20, President Jose Sulaiman praised former champion Vernon Forrest for his commitment to the sport, but was adamant about the need for Martinez to take the reigns as champion in the division.
“Sergio Martinez is one of the most loyal fighters I have ever met as WBC President,” said Sulaiman. “[Sergio] is now regarded as a new sensation of boxing and I am sure that he will proudly represent the WBC.”
Obtaining ownership of the title was a long time coming for Martinez (44-1-2, 24 KOs).
After winning the interim title 8 months ago, Martinez has been trying to get Forrest in the ring, biding his time with a defense vs. Kermit Cintron in February. Once Forrest pulled out of their scheduled August 1st contest, the WBC made its ruling.
“I’m very proud of the WBC,” said Martinez. “I would’ve been happier winning the title in the ring, but I deserved this honor.”
With the famous green belt now solely in his possession, Martinez, widely regarded as one of boxing’s budding stars, is ready to take on all comers in the welterweight division.
“I’m not running away from anyone,” said Martinez. “Now that I have the green belt, I plan on keeping it for a long time. And if Vernon ever decides to get his title back, I’ll be there.”
No one is happier to hear those words than his promoter, Lou DiBella, who is ready to move his fighter’s career forward.
“It’s a pleasure to promote a fighter who will take on any challenge,” said DiBella. “We’re pursuing all opportunities for Sergio Martinez.”
There is still a chance the bout with Forrest will happen. As part of the WBC’s ruling Forrest is entitled to a shot at his old belt if and when he deems himself healthy enough for active competition.
Team Martinez is not only prepared to finally step into the ring with Forrest, but is welcoming the opportunity to get their long awaited showdown.
“Sergio is looking to defend his title anytime, anywhere,” said Martinez manager Sampson Lewkowicz. “If Vernon Forrest decides to step to the plate, Sergio will be waiting for him.”
See you at the Fights.
Thanks for your time.

MARTINEZ DEFENDS INTERIM WBC 154 LBS. TITLE VERSUS CINTRON FEB. 14 ON HBO
New York– DiBella Entertainment serves up a Valentine’s Day treat with the addition of a potentially explosive 154 pound title fight between interim WBC champion Sergio Martinez and former IBF welterweight kingpin Kermit Cintron, to HBO’s Boxing After Dark on Saturday, February 14, at the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Florida.
The scheduled 12-rounder will be the first bout of 2009 for both fighters. Martinez (43-1-1, 23 KOs) was supposed to defend his interim belt against undefeated Joe Greene on the recent DBE-promoted Berto-Collazo welterweight championship card in Biloxi, MS, but illness forced WBO # 4 rated Greene to withdraw. “Maravilla” Martinez was then briefly scheduled fight Daniel Santos before the WBA junior middleweight champion changed his mind…claiming lack of proper preparation time. Cintron (30-2, 27 KOs) is coming off a unanimous decision victory over former IBF 140 lbs. champion Lovemore N'dou on the Taylor-Lacy DBE show, seen on HBO this past November 15, in Nashville, TN. “El Asesino” Cintron is currently rated the # 2 welterweight in the world by the IBF.
Sergio Martinez has been anxious for the opportunity to build on his spectacular knockout win over Alex Bunema on HBO this past October, while Kermit Cintron is riding high again following his recent victory over N’dou. It says a lot about the character of two great professional fighters when Sergio and Kermit are willing to put it all on the line against each other. Both guys want to be the best and neither one will pass up an opportunity to prove it!” said DBE president Lou DiBella.
Madrid, Spain’s Martinez, by way of Buenos Aires, is 33-year-old southpaw and former IBO 154 pound titlist, who put the American boxing audience on notice in October, as “Maravilla” produced a dazzling TKO victory over then WBA # 1 rated contender Alex Bunema to earn the interim WBC 154 pound title.
One of boxing’s hardest punchers, former welterweight champion Cintron won the vacant IBF title in October 2006 with an impressive display of power punching – halting Mark Suarez in six one-sided rounds. Born in Carolinas, Puerto Rico, Cintron, 29, now fights out of Reading, PA.
Martinez vs. Cintron is part of an HBO tripleheader also featuring unified lightweight champion Nate Campbell defending against Ali Funeka and Alfredo Angulo vs. Ricardo Mayorga in a WBC 154 lbs. eliminator.
Tickets information for the Feb. 14 boxing tripleheader will be announced shortly. The BankAtlantic Center is the home arena for the Florida Panthers of the National Hockey League.
See you at the Fights.

Sergio Martinez TKO’s Alex Bunema in Battle of World-Rated Contenders to Claim interim WBC 154 Pound Title ; WHO IS SERGIO MARTINEZ? HE IS “MARAVILLA!
From the opening bell, Martinez (44-1-1, 24 KOs), who came into the bout as the WBC # 2 rated contender, completely dominated the accomplished, reigning WBA Inter-Continental 154 pound titlist, Bunema.
In round three, southpaw Martinez battered Bunema all over the ring before flooring the African with a left hand. Martinez’s superior hand speed was evident throughout the one-sided beating – prompting the ringside physician to stop the bout before the start of round nine.
“Sergio Martinez is one of the best fighters in the world period! His nickname is ‘Maravilla,’ which means ‘Marvelous’ and that’s the kind of performance he delivered against Bunema,” said DBE president Lou DiBella.
The 33-year-old Martinez resides in Madrid, Spain, and has already held the IBO world and WBC Latino 154 pound titles. His advisor Sampson Lewkowicz was the first to alert DiBella to the Argentine’s unlimited potential.
DiBella: “Sampson told me about Sergio a few years back. Once I had the opportunity to watch some tapes, I knew the sky was the limit for this guy as long as he was given the opportunity to perform on the HBO stage. Along with Sergio’s manager Ricardo Sanchez-Atocha, Sampson and I are confident that Martinez will prove to be boxing’s next major international star with displays in the ring that earn him the accolades associated with a talent of his magnitude.”
Bunema came into the fight against Martinez coming off two straight knockout victories already this year over world-class contenders Roman Karmazin and Walter Dario Matthysse – making Martinez’s resounding win that much more impressive.
“The scary thing about Martinez is, he has the ability to do the same thing to almost any fighter out there and he’ll continue to do so as he’s matched against the very best competition. A new star has emerged in the 147 to 160 pound weight classes and his name is Sergio Martinez,” concluded Lou DiBella.

MARTINEZ READY FOR BREAK OUT PERFORMANCE VERSUS BUNEMA
New York– WBC # 2 rated contender Sergio Martinez will be looking to cement his status as the next superstar of the 154 pound division, when he battles Alex Bunema, this Saturday, October 4 on HBO’s Boxing After Dark from the Pechanga Resort & Casino in Temecula, California.
The 33-year-old Martinez (43-1-1, 23 KOs) is a former IBO and WBC Latino 154 pound titlist, who earned his opportunity to fight for the interim WBC world title with a fourth round knockout over Saul Roman in April 2007. Most recently, Martinez demolished Archak TerMeliksetian via seventh round TKO on June 7 at Mohegan Sun Casino in Connecticut.
“Alex Bunema is one of the top contenders in the junior middleweight division…he’s rated by every major sanctioning body, including # 1 by the WBA. When Sergio Martinez beats Bunema this Saturday on HBO, he’ll prove he’s the new man at 154,” said DBE president Lou DiBella.
Residing in Madrid, Spain, and having won and defended the IBO belt in the UK, Martinez is already an international entity, whose dream is to one day make a world title defense at the legendary Luna Park stadium in Argentina.
“With his last three knockout victories all coming in the United States, Sergio ‘Maravilla’ Martinez has just begun to showcase his skills for American audiences. This Argentinean southpaw with movie-star good looks is not only the next boxing great from his country, but a future international star,” added Martinez’ advisor Sampson Lewkowicz.
The Martinez-Bunema twelve-round bout is part of an HBO tripleheader dubbed “Night of the Rising Stars II,” and will include a pair of ten round bouts featuring jr. middleweight Alfredo Angulo vs. Andrey Tsurkan and featherweight Yuriorkis Gamboa vs. Marcos Ramirez. HBO Boxing After Dark will broadcast all three bouts live, beginning at 10:05 p.m. ET/PT (delayed on the west coast.)
Promoted by Gary Shaw Productions and Ringside Ticket, in association with Arena Box-Promotion, DiBella Entertainment, and Star Boxing, remaining tickets priced at $150, $100 and $50, can be purchased at Pechanga’s box office, by calling, toll-free, (877) 711-2WIN, or online at www.pechanga.com/tickets/Online .

SERGIO MARTINEZ SENSATIONAL ONCE AGAIN AND READY TO TAKE OVER 154-lb. DIVISION
NEW YORK– There is a new player ready to take over the 154 lb. division and his name is Sergio “Maravilla” Martinez (43-1-1, 23 KO’s). The DBE Super Welterweight looked outstanding Saturday night knocking out a highly motivated, well prepared Archack TerMeliksetian (16-7, 13 KO’s), in the 7th round of a scheduled 10 round contest. Sergio displayed fast combinations, slick footwork, great defense, an abundance of power and a clear will to win.
The Argentinean’s win Saturday night came on the undercard of the Vernon Forrest-Sergio Mora WBC Super Welterweight Title fight where Mora, the challenger, upset Forrest to win the belt. Ironically, with the win, Martinez is now the WBC #1 contender and the mandatory challenger for Sergio Mora’s WBC Super Welterweight Title.
“Sergio Martinez was by far the most impressive fighter on the card Saturday night at Mohegan Sun,” said Lou DiBella, president of DiBella Entertainment. “I am so excited for what lies ahead for Sergio. He has great boxing tools and is an extremely fun fighter to watch. He is an intelligent person who will be very marketable to the networks. He now has a great opportunity as the #1 Contender for the WBC belt as it will be ‘Sergio vs. Sergio’ and I know Martinez has the ability and passion to win it.”
