DELVIN RODRIGUEZ AND STAR BOXING'S JOE DEGUARDIA PHOTOS AND QUOTES FROM FINAL ORLANDO PRESS CONFERENCE

Two-time world title challenger and top rated junior middleweight Delvin Rodriguez and Star Boxing's Joe DeGuardia attended the Final Press Conference yesterday in Orlando, Florida just two days ahead of Rodriguez's battle with three-division world champion Miguel Cotto set for this Saturday, October 5 at the Amway Center and broadcast Live on HBO®.

Delvin Rodriguez:

"I'm just enjoying every second of this because this is an opportunity that I earned. I got to this opportunity the hard way. After so many years of hard work, one bad decision after the other, tough fights, I'm just thankful to God that I'm here. There was a time when I said forget about boxing, forget this, this isn't for me anymore, but I said I'm not going to throw so many years of my life away after so much hard work. So I'm glad I stuck with it and thanks to God I'm here."

"This is my time, my turn to win. I have enjoyed every second of this promotion. Every fighter has a defining moment in his career. For me, my career takes a big turn for greatness on Saturday night, I will beat Cotto."

Joe DeGuardia, President of Star Boxing:

"Throughout his entire career Delvin has been a warrior, always battling in the ring. Along with the sensational battles with Wolak that everyone knows about, he's also fought numerous times overseas and on the road where he's been the victim of hometown scoring in some very close battles."

"Come Saturday night the fans in this beautiful city of Orlando and those watching on HBO are going to see a tremendous fight. Delvin is in terrific shape and ready for the biggest fight of his career."

The Miguel Cotto/Delvin Rodriguez 12 round super welterweight battle will be seen in over 180 counties across the globe.

Cotto and Rodriguez boast a combined record of 65-10-3 (46 KOs) -- a winning percentage of over 83% and a victory by knockout ratio of 71%.

DEMETRIUS ANDRADE TO TAKE ON VANES MARTIROSYAN ON SEPTEMBER 7TH FOR WBO JUNIOR MIDDLEWEIGHT TITLE LIVE ON HBO Title fight to be co-feature to Chavez Jr. – Vera from STAPLES Center in Los Angeles

On Saturday September 7th, former U.S. Olympian and undefeated Demetrius Andrade will vie for his first world championship, when he takes on fellow former U.S. Olympian Vanes Martirosyan in a twelve round bout from the STAPLES Center in Los Angeles.
The bout, which will be televised live on HBO Championship Boxing, will be the co-feature to the Super Middleweight clash between Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and Bryan Vera.
Demetrius Andrade of Providence, Rhode Island was a former world amateur champion and has a perfect professional mark of 19-0 with thirteen knockouts and is currently the number two contender for the WBO belt.
Vanes Martiroysan of Glendale, California is 33-0-1 with 21 knockouts.
Andrade, who is co-promoted by Banner Promotions and Star Boxing, was scheduled to contend for the belt on July 6th but an injury to then-champion Zaurbek Baysangurov forced the title to become vacant, thus setting up this showdown of undefeated former Olympians.
“I am looking forward to this fight and have been waiting for this fight ever since I walked into the gym at age 7”, said Andrade.
“I always wanted to be champion of the world and on September 7th I will be crowned champion.  I wanted to win an Olympic gold medal and since they took that from me, I am going to take this world title.”
“I was a 2008 Olympian and he made it in 2004.  I will show him that if I was around in 2003 and 2004, he would not have made the team”, finished Andrade.
“This will be an outstanding fight and we worked hard on getting this fight on HBO”, said Banner Promotions CEO Arthur Pelullo.
“We feel that Demetrius has all the talent to become a star in this sport and only needed the opportunity on this kind of stage and on September 7thhe will get that chance.  I want to thank my partner Joe DeGuardia, HBO, Top Rank and the WBO for making this great fight.  I have a feeling that after September 7th, not only will Demetrius be a world champion but he will be a household name and in line for even bigger fights.”

BRIAN “THE WARRIOR” VERA READY FOR CHAVEZ JR. SHOWDOWN

On Saturday September 7th at the STAPLES Center in Los Angeles, Brian Vera will step into the ring with former WBC Middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez, Jr. in what will be the biggest test of Vera’s career.
The fight is promoted by Top Rank, Banner Promotions and Zanfer Promotions and will be televised live on
HBO Championship Boxing.
Brian Vera (23-6, 14 KO’s) is currently ranked number-one by the WBO in the middleweight division. Vera is currently on a four fight win streak with victories over former world champions Sergiy Dziznriuk (37-2-1, 24 KO) and Sergio Mora (24-3-2, 7 KO).

This fight had been in the works since May and due to the fight being close to finalized a few times, Vera has been training for weeks in Houston, Texas.
“I will be fully prepared.  I have never had this much time to train and prepare”, said Vera.
“I feel like I already have a head start and I am going to make everyone proud.  I am going to win”
The fight will be contested at 168 pounds, which Vera has no problem with.
“I have actually fought three times at that weight and Chavez hasn’t.  I know the weight will not affect me and I will be strong at the weight”
Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (46-1-1, 32 KO’s) is coming off his first defeat in his much anticipated showdown last September against Sergio Martinez.  Vera believes he is set up in the right spot to pull the upset.
“He is probably taking me lightly but it doesn’t matter.  I will be 110% on fight night”.
Chavez Jr. like his father, is a darling among the Los Angeles sports fans, as this will be his 3rd appearance at the STAPLES Center. (Chavez Jr. won his world title in the arena versus Sebastien Zbik) but Vera sees a silver lining going into the hostile environment.
“Fighting in Los Angeles is better than fighting him in Mexico City”.
Vera knows that a win will only bring him the biggest fights in the Middleweight division.
“A win will turn my whole career around and it will change my life”.
Chavez Jr. who tested positive for a banned substance after the Martinez fight and sat out the subsequent nine month suspension has had his share of outside the ring negatives and Vera knows that it could factor in as the fight draws near.
“He is only human like everyone else.  Of course the suspension, the fines and some of the other stuff that has been said about him will play on his mind.”
“I just want to thank my trainer Ronnie Shields and the people at Plex Performance as well as my manager David Watson, my promoter Banner Promotions and the rest of my team.  I will make them proud on September 7th”.

It's Chocolate Time! Peter Quillin ready to unify world middleweight title

Undefeated World Boxing Organization (WBO) middleweight champion Peter "Kid Chocolate" Quillin (29-0, 21 KOs) has officially arrived on the International boxing scene, after destroying challenger Fernando Guerrero (25-2, 19 KOs) en route to victory by seventh-round technical knockout in his first title defense, April 27 on Showtime Championship Boxing from Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Now, the 29-year-old Quillin is one of the hottest boxers in the world, ready to unify the 160-pound division, assuming he can overcome some potential boxing politics in order to make a deal against one of the other major world middleweight title holders.

"I want to fight one of the other champions," Quillin said.  "Sergio Martinez would be my first choice, but he's injured and out for the rest of the year.  (Daniel) Geale is the IBF champion and that, right now, looks like the easiest unification fight to make."

Unifications are difficult to make a for wide variety of reasons and, unfortunately, Quillin against any of the other world champions faces the additional problems stemming from animosity between rivals Showtime and HBO, as well as Quillin's promoter, Golden Boy Promotions, and Top Rank.  What Quillin has on his side, however, in addition to his rising popularity, is the fact that not only is he the only American-born world middleweight champion, but he's also the only American ranked among the consensus top 10 in independent rating systems.

"We'll fight anybody in a unification or major fight," added John Seip, who co-manages Quillin with Jim McDevitt.  "Peter was awesome in his last fight. He really hurts his opponents with both hands.  He connected on 50-percent of his power punches against Guerrero and that's an astronomical number. Nobody in this division can handle him.  It's a numbers game, now.  The promoters and networks have to put egos aside and give fans what they want with Peter in a major fight.

"No offense to (Brian) Vera or (Marco Antonio) Rubio, but we're looking for much bigger fights.  Peter has earned the right to be a main event fighter.  He helped open-up Barclays Center and had a lot of fans there against Guerrero.  You don't make big money winning the world title belt; you do retaining it, and now it's time for Peter to reap the fruit of his labor. The biggest market in boxing is in America and a unification fight belongs here.  Martinez is out with injuries, (Julio Cesar, Jr.) Chavez won't fight us, Golovkin has a fight at the end of June, but Geale interests us."

The affable Quillin goes into animal status when he steps between the ropes and into the ring. He has developed into a monster counter-puncher with power in both hands, to go with a chameleon-like ability to adjust his style according to what's most advantageous in each particular fight, often surprising opponents who based their game plan on Quillin's previous fight, and he also possess an incredible chin that allows him to walk through punches.

In his last two fights, Quillin has recorded an amazing 10 knockdowns, four against Guerrero and six more last October when he ripped the WBO belt from previously unbeaten defending champion Hassan N'Dam N'Jikam (27-0).

"And one other knockdown in my fight before that (N'Jikam)," Quillin noted, "against Winky (Wright), making it 11 knockdowns in my last three fights. "I never want to lose and just work hard to win every fight. I challenge myself in training camp for every fight and I have great trainers - Eric Brown (boxing), Brad Bose (strength and conditioning) and Robert Garcia (nutritionist).  I'm improving every fight.  I've gained valuable experience, become more confident since becoming world champion, and feel very comfortable in the ring.  In my last fight, I showed improvement in ring generalship, composure, and even my interviewing skills.  I'm becoming the full package."

It's Chocolate Time!

BATTLE OF THE UNDEFEATED! RIOS AND GAMBOA TO RUMBLE FOR WORLD LIGHTWEIGHT TITLE Saturday, April 14 at Mandalay Bay Live on HBO

BATTLE OF THE UNDEFEATED!!! Brandon Rios and Yuriorkis Gamboa will face each other April 14th in Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino Las Vegas in one of the most highly anticipated fights of the year.

Boxing fans can expect many happy returns this tax season. Former world lightweight champion BRANDON "Bam Bam" RIOS and former featherweight champion YURIORKIS GAMBOA will collide in a battle of the undefeated for the vacant World Boxing Association (WBA) lightweight championship, Saturday, April 14, at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. Promoted by Top Rank, in association with Arena Box U.S., the fight will be televised live on HBO as the main event of World Championship Boxing, beginning at 10:15 p.m. ET.

Rios (29-0-1, 22 KOs), the former WBA lightweight champion, from Oxnard, Calif., enters this fight having won 10 of his previous 11 fights by knockout. Gamboa (21-0, 16 KOs), the former world featherweight champion who won Olympic gold in 2004 for his native Cuba and now resides in Miami, Fla., will return to the ring having won eight of his previous 11 by stoppage. In short, these warriors have never met a chin they didn't want to smash.

"Rios and Gamboa are two young and hungry fighters in their prime looking to make a leap to stardom," said Todd duBoef, president of Top Rank.

"Gamboa has been constantly referred to as a 'rising Cuban star' throughout his career. But on April 14, the word 'rising' will finally be eliminated. Gamboa will be a superstar," said Ahmet Öner, president of Arena Box US. "Gamboa is so special and though he has been fighting at 126 pounds, 135 pounds is where he belongs. He will be so much stronger fighting at lightweight."

"Brandon Rios versus Yuriorkis Gamboa is a spectacular fight and we're excited to present this showdown live on HBO World Championship Boxing," said Kery Davis, Senior Vice President, Programming, HBO Sports. "Both fighters deserve recognition for stepping up and saying 'let's do it.'

SIZZLING SUMMER SHOWDOWN-RODRIGUEZ TO TAKE ON WOLAK-IN MUST SEE FIGHT-ON ESPN'S FRIDAY NIGHT FIGHTS‏

On July 15th, Joe DeGuardia's Star Boxing presents a highly anticipated ESPN "Friday Night Fights" card at New York City's famed Roseland Ballroom with a sensational main event, featuring exciting former welterweight world title challenger, Delvin Rodriguez (25-5-2, 14KO's) looking to throw himself into the mix of top jr. middleweight contenders when he takes on top rated, Pawel "Raging Bull" Wolak (29-1, 19KO's) in a can't miss, all-action showdown.

"This fight has all the makings to be a fight of the year candidate," stated Joe DeGuardia, CEO and President of Star Boxing, Rodriguez's promoter. "You have two guys who continuously produce fireworks each and every time they step into the ring, going up against one another in what is arguably the most important fight of their respective careers. These are the type of fights that as a true fight fan you just know you can't miss."

"I'm excited to get back into the ring and show that I am a force to be reckoned with in the jr. middleweight division," said Rodriguez. "I have a new team behind me and I feel better than I ever have before. On July 15th, Pawel Wolak and the entire world will see a stronger, faster, and more exciting Delvin Rodriguez."

"I want to thank Delvin Rodriquez for taking the fight," stated Wolak. "It is going to be a hard fight with lots of action. I expect Delvin will give me everything he's got and I will be prepared. The fans will get their money worth like they do with every fight of mine. I am looking forward to continuing towards my goal of winning a world title by end of 2011."

The bout between Rodriguez and Wolak, who is rated as the WBO #3, WBA #6, IBF #8, WBC #11 jr. middleweight in the world, has huge implications for both fighters. Wolak, who is currently riding an eight fight win streak, including his most impressive victory to date in his last bout, when he dominated and made former WBA jr. middleweight champion Yuri Foreman retire on his stool after six rounds, is looking to cash in on his recent success, and earn his shot at a world title. While Rodriguez on the other hand, who has become a fan-favorite, drawing some of the highest ratings on ESPN's "Friday Night Fights" over the years, knows a win over the red-hot Wolak will throw him right into the mix with the top jr. middleweights in the world, and put him back on the path to challenging for another world title.

The Rodriguez-Wolak bout is scheduled for ten rounds and is promoted by Star Boxing in association with Top Rank.

PHILADELPHIA'S DEMETRIUS HOPKINS STEPS IN TO FACE KENDALL HOLT FOR WBO Jr. WELTER TITLE

NEW YORK– Undefeated junior welterweight challenger Demetrius Hopkins (28-0-1, 11 KOs) will step in to face WBO 140-pound champion Kendall Holt (24-2, 13 KOs) in the main event of Saturday's special edition of ShoBox: The New Generation, live from Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, NJ, (SHOWTIME at 11 p.m. ET/PT, delayed on the west coast).

Holt was originally slated to face former 140-pound champ Ricardo Torres in a rubber-match, but Torres withdrew from the fight on Monday.

"Torres really wanted to fight but he was ill during camp, missed some training and was not in the condition he needed to be in for a war like this," said Bruce Trampler, chief matchmaker for Top Rank.

Now, Holt will have his hands full with the undefeated Hopkins, the nephew of former middleweight champion Bernard Hopkins. The 28-year-old Hopkins is in peak condition as he was originally scheduled to fight Germaine Sanders on the undercard of Saturday's bout. When he learned Torres pulled out, he jumped at the opportunity to fight for his first world title.

According to manager Cameron Dunkin, Hopkins, upon accepting the fight, went immediately into an intense, all-day training session and was unavailable for comment.

Dunkin said, "Demetrius had been training hard for his fight with Germaine, and he has redoubled his efforts. He knows he needs to lose three more pounds but he will be on weight by Wednesday. He has completely devoted himself to being ready for this fight.

"This is a fight that he has wanted for a long time," the manager continued. "His first world title fight; we have wanted this for a long time. I am excited and proud that he will get the chance on Saturday. This is what we've been waiting for."

A top contender at 140-pounds, Hopkins holds key victories over Steve Forbes, Ernesto Zepeda and Jesse Feliciano. With Hopkins hailing from Philadelphia, and Holt from Paterson, N.J., it is essentially a home-game for both fighters.

Remaining tickets are on sale for the event, which is promoted by Top Rank, Inc., for Boardwalk Hall in. Tickets at $200, $100 and $50 are available on www.ticketmaster.com, by phone at 1-800-736-1420, or at any Ticketmaster outlet nationwide.

Nick Charles will call the action from ringside with Steve Farhood serving as expert analyst and Al Bernstein as ringside reporter. The executive producer of ShoBox is Gordon Hall with Richard Gaughan producing and Rick Phillips directing. ShoBox recently celebrated seven outstanding years on the air.

Holt, the Paterson , NJ native, was ahead on two of the judges scorecards at the time of the controversial stoppage.

The rematch took place on July 5, 2008 and the short and brutal bout lasted only sixty-one seconds. Holt was knocked down twice in the first thirty seconds. When Holt returned to his feet following the second knockdown, Torres moved in to finish him off when Holt landed a crushing overhand right that send Torres to his knee, held up only by the ropes. Torres, who suffered a concussion, took several minutes to return to his feet before being whisked off to a local hospital for further tests. Holt, the newly crowned champion, also headed to the hospital for stitches over his right eye.

Torres captured the vacant WBO title with a split decision over Mike Arnaoutis, another Atlantic City fan favorite, on November 18, 2006.

Philadelphia, PA—Super flyweight Raul “The Cobra” Martinez, of San Antonio, TX, who did everything as an amateur except make the 2004 United States Olympic Team, goes against amateur standout, hard-hitting Victor Proa, of Monterrey, Mexico, over 10 rounds Friday evening, Nov. 14, at the New Alhambra, Swanson & Ritner Streets. First fight is 7.15 p.m.
Telefutura/Univision will telecast the fight on its popular Solo Boxeo series, beginning at 8 p.m (EST).
Martinez, 25, is ranked among the Top 10 super flyweights in the world by every alphabet group on the planet. He is 23-0, 13 K0s.
“In the amateurs, Raul made a believer out of everybody,” said manager Lou Mesorana. “Out of the whole American team that was preparing to go to the (2004) Olympics, he was, without a doubt, one of the best pro prospects.”
Unfortunately, Martinez lost two hairline decisions in three bouts at the US Olympic Trials and that cost him a spot on the team.
“My dad, Ramiro, used to box in his day,” said Martinez, “but his main sport was soccer—he played for the Monterrey Rayodos, a professional team. He boxed as a professional, but he didn’t have too many fights, close to 10.
“Ever since I was about 5 years old, my dad always had a punching bag hanging outside in the yard. I remember as a kid I would put on the gloves and just hit it, saying, ‘I’m going to be a boxer one day.’ But I was always into other sports until I was 15. My first sport was baseball, and then I played soccer. Then I played basketball, football. I played golf in high school. I was on the swim team.
“When I was 15, I told my dad I wanted to become a boxer. My dad didn’t believe me because I would always say it. He would say, ‘Go outside and hit the bag.’ I would do it every day and he started to realize that maybe I would stick to it for a little while. So he started training me, teaching me my jab and the basic punches. After six months, he took me to a gym and my career went on from there.”
After a 70-20-1 amateur career, which included two US National Titles at 112 pounds, Martinez turned pro in 2004 and he has kept the winning tradition.
In his last fight July 25 in Friant, CA, Martinez earned a unanimous 12-round decision over former World Boxing Organization (WBO) flyweight champion Isidro Garcia, of Los Angeles, CA.
“The main change I made as a pro is sitting down on my punches,” Martinez said. “I remember when I first came to (trainer) Fernando Castrejon. He would put me to spar with these guys. They were pros—they were more patient, picking their shots. I was just throwing so many punches on these guys, moving around on them, they can’t touch me. But by the fifth or sixth round, I’m tired and then they start hitting me.”
“So he (Castrejon) started working on me sitting down on my punches and my power and being more patient. So I mixed my speed with my power and that’s where I improved. I’ve gotten a lot more experience now after four years as a pro, going 10 rounds, 12 rounds. It’s pretty much changed my whole style—more patience, more power.”
Martinez will need his entire arsenal against Proa, who is 26-0-2, 19 K0s.
Proa, 23, has been a pro less than three years.
In his last fight Sept. 25 in Monterrey, Mexico, Proa scored a 10-round decision over Arturo Estrada, of Tampico, Mexico. Proa had K0d Estrada in seven rounds seven months earlier.
“Victor (Proa) was born in Monterrey,” said manager Fernando Dominguez. “He comes from a poor family. He worked hard to support his family. He used to wash windows and things like that. His father passed away about a year ago. He had maybe 100 amateur fights
“Proa’s style is real aggressive. He’s got a lot of power and he’s smart. He’s been training for almost four months, including the second fight with Estrada.
“I’ve been working with Victor for almost three years. He trains in Monterrey at the Los Panchos Gym. They got a lot of boxers in the gym, good fighters, and he gets a lot of good sparring. I think it’s going to be a good fight. Victor is in great shape. He’s ready.”
The winner figures to be in line for a shot at a world title in 2009.
Seven additional fights complete the card, which is being promoted by Top Rank, Inc., Peltz Boxing and Joe Hand Promotions.
Tickets priced at $65, $55, $40 are on sale at Peltz Boxing (215-765-0922) and also can be purchased online at www.peltzboxing.com

FLASH QUOTES FROM PAVLIK-HOPKINS NEW YORK PRESS CONFERENCE

Nazim Richardson: This guy comes to fight and that is good for Bernard Hopkins. John David Jackson will be supporting me in this fight. When you look at Bernard Hopkins, you are looking at a legend and you have to respect him for that. He has been through the wars and the fires. He has never been cut and has never been beat up.

Bernard Hopkins: I’m a boxing fan and I am a fan of Kelly Pavlik. I am a fan of Pavlik because he became a champion the right way. Not because of politics, but because he came up through the ranks and beat them all. I know what makes a good fight, but I never thought I would be fighting him. Kelly has a lot of heart and determination, but saying that, I’ve never been afraid of a ghost.

I believe I’m coming into this fight as the winner. People know me and boxing people know me and they know I’m a threat against anyone. I am willing to say that I am coming into this fight to win. When we get into the ring – it will just be me and him – and that means it is 50/50.

This is a blue collar fight. It’s like two guys working on a pier and get in a fight. It’s two guys fighting with their hard hats on. This is a blue collar sport – the kind of fight that could happen in any inner city – except now I’m from Philly and he’s from Youngstown.

Kelly comes in and throws the hammer down and it’s my job to take that away from him.

Pavlik has fought three times against fighters that I know of – Miranda and (Jermain) Taylor (twice). I don’t know any of the others. But I have nothing bad to say about Kelly Pavlik.

This fight is about two guys. One guy is coming forward and the other guys is looking to do his thing and THAT SPELLS ACTION.

Jack Loew: This is a great opportunity being able to fight a guy like Bernard Hopkins. This fight will take Kelly to another level. He’s a great fighter, but on October 18 it will come to an end for Bernard Hopkins. It is over for him.

Kelly Pavlik: I want to fight the best. People talk and ask about why I am fighting Bernard Hopkins. You’ve got a legend right here. I don’t know about Calzaghe – I guess I would have to shoot him in the foot to get him to stop running from me. All I can tell you is that I will train as hard as I can to get in the best shape that I can be in – for Bernard Hopkins.

Tickets to Pavlik vs. Hopkins, priced at $700, $500, $350, $200, $100 and $75, go on sale This Friday! August 8 at Noon ET and can be purchased at the Boardwalk Hall box office, by calling Ticketmaster (800) 736-1420 or online at www.Ticketmaster.com.

Promoted by Top Rank and Golden Boy Promotions, in association with Caesars Atlantic City, Pavlik vs. Hopkins will take place Saturday, October 18 at Atlantic City's Boardwalk Hall. The fight will be produced and distributed live by HBO Pay-Per-View, beginning at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT

HOLT RALLIES DRAMATICALLY TO WIN WBO 140-POUND TITLE, LAMONT PETERSON STOPS CASTANEDA TO REMAIN UNBEATEN ON A SPECIAL EDITION OF SHOBOX

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Hagler-Hearns gave way to Holt-Torres Saturday as fireworks arrived a day late on SHOWTIME.

In one of the most dramatic and explosive opening rounds and rematches in recent memory, Kendall "Rated R" Holt and Ricardo Torres combined to knock each other down three times in 61 seconds on a truly special edition of ShoBox: The New Generation.

After Holt hit the canvas twice in 34 seconds, the WBO No. 2 contender rallied spectacularly to knock Torres out cold and win the World Boxing Organization (WBO) junior welterweight title at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. Bob Arum’s Top Rank, Inc., presented the exciting event, which aired on SHOWTIME at 11 p.m. ET/PT (delayed on the west coast).

"Rated R" For "Retaliation'': In as wild and exciting give-and-take slugfest as you'll see -- and a serious candidate for not only Round of the Year, but Fight of the Year, Kendall Holt rallied spectacularly from two knockdowns to knock out defending champion Ricardo Torres at 1:01 of the first round to capture the WBO junior welterweight title on a special edition of ShoBox: The New Generation Saturday on SHOWTIME.

After Torres floored Holt 13 seconds in with a right to the head, the champion knocked the challenger down a second time 21 seconds later. With fans in attendance and those watching on television believing the fight was over, Holt connected with an overhand right to Torres’ head, sent him crashing to the ropes and ended matters at 1:01 of the opening round when referee Jay Nady stopped the exceptionally thrilling contest.

“I may go down, but I get back up,” Holt, who was cut over the right eye, said. “This is better than a dream come true. Let the blood flow.”

Since the turnabout was so sudden and unexpected, everyone in the theater, including Mike Tyson, Paris Hilton and Julio Cesar Chavez, watched a replay on a video screen to see what had really transpired during the 61 scintillating seconds.

Holt (24-2, 13 KOs), of Paterson, N.J., became the 28th ShoBox fighter – and fourth in 2008 -- to capture a world title since the series premiered in July 2001.

“I never saw the first knockdown coming,” said Holt, who joined fellow ShoBox alums, Andre Berto, Juan Manuel Lopez and Timothy Bradley, to claim world championship belts in ‘08. “I looked away and was distracted. I saw the second knockdown coming, but I couldn’t do anything about it.”

A disappointed Torres (32-2, 28 KOs), of Barranquilla, Colombia, seemingly had his third title defense wrapped up before Holt’s incredible comeback.

“I had him (Holt),” Torres said. “He was in my hands. I got careless. He got me.”

ShoBox expert analyst Steve Farhood was amazed at what he witnessed.

“This is as wild a fight as we’ve had in the seven years of ShoBox,” he said. “It re-confirmed one of the main reasons why we love boxing. Regardless of what had happened earlier, a fighter can do what Kendall Holt did. Five seconds before Holt landed the knockout punch, I would not have given 10 cents for his chances.”

In the co-feature, talented Lamont Peterson (25-0, 12 KOs) kept his perfect record in tact by scoring a late knockdown en route to a ninth-round TKO over hard-trying Rogelio Castaneda (24-14-3, eight KOs), of Tijuana, Mexico.

Unbeaten, world-ranked junior welterweight Lamont Peterson registered a ninth-round TKO over game Rogelio Castaneda in the ShoBox co-feature at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nev. The doubleheader was promoted by Bob Arum's Top Rank, Inc.

Peterson, of Washington, D.C., connected with a punishing right hook to the temple late in the ninth round and sent Mexico’s Castaneda crashing violently to the canvas. Moments later, referee Russell Mora stopped the contest at 2:50 at the request of Castaneda’s corner.

“I thought Lamont did pretty well considering this was his first fight in six months,” said Peterson’s trainer, Barry Hunter. “I give him a ‘B.’ ”

A world-ranked contender at 140 pounds, Peterson explained that he changed stances to score the knockdown.

“I turned southpaw and landed a clean shot to the temple,” Peterson said.

Castaneda’s corner said they waved the white towel to end the contest due to their concern of further punishment.

“The kid (Castaneda) is like a brother to me,” said Castaneda’s trainer, Israel Piceno. “There was only one round to go and he had taken too many punches. It was an easy decision. He wasn’t going to win a decision anyway.”

Nick Charles called the action from ringside with Farhood serving as expert analyst. The executive producer of ShoBox is Gordon Hall with Richard Gaughan producing.

CHICAGO SUN-TIMES TO STREAM LIVE FROM PACQUIAO-DIAZ BRUNCH ON WEDNESDAY‏

CHICAGO, IL, - The Chicago Sun-Times will stream live on Wednesday morning from the Chicago media brunch for boxing superstar MANNY PACQUIAO and World Boxing Council champion DAVID DIAZ as they promote their showdown set for June 28th at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The media brunch will start at 10:30AM (Chicago time) and will feature interviews with Pacquiao, Diaz and Bob Arum, head of Top Rank Incorporated.

The stream can be viewed at The Chicago Sun-Times website on their sports page at www.suntimes.com/sports. Fans can also visit the site ahead of time to pose questions for the participants.

When two explosive world champions at the top of their game mix it up for the world title, it’s a “Lethal Combination!” Newly-crowned World Boxing Council (WBC) super featherweight champion MANNY PACQUIAO and WBC lightweight champion DAVID DIAZ will battle in a 12-round rumble with Diaz’s title at stake.

Promoted by Top Rank, in association with MP Promotions, Pacquiao vs. Diaz will take place Saturday, June 28, at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino and will be produced and distributed live by HBO Pay-Per-View, beginning at 9 p.m. EDT / 6 p.m. PDT.

Remaining tickets for Pacquiao vs.Diaz, priced at $600, $400, $300, $200 and $100, can be
purchased at the Mandalay Bay box office and at all Las Vegas Ticketmaster locations (select Smith’s Food and Drug Centers, Macy’s West at the Fashion Show Mall, and Ritmo Latino). Ticket sales are limited to eight (8) per person. To charge by phone with a major credit card, call Ticketmaster at (702) 474-4000 or Mandalay Bay (702) 632-7580. Tickets are also available for purchase at www.mandalaybay.com or www.ticketmaster.com.

“This will be my hardest-fought battle,” said Pacquiao. “It’s been over three years since I have changed weight divisions and I will be doing it against the lightweight division’s world champion. I saw how he took the fight to Erik Morales in his last title defense and I’m expecting to see the same firepower out of him when we meet. But this is my drive for five. Five world titles in five different weight classes and I will not be denied. I am fighting for history, for destiny and for my people of the Philippines.”

"Manny Pacquiao has beaten many great fighters, especially Mexicans like Morales, Barrera, Marquez, Larios and Solis. That's why they call him “The Mexicutioner,” said Diaz. “I will shock the world and beat Pacquiao at his own game, power for power. He’s a great champion but he’s fighting in my division – lightweight. I have worked too hard for this world title and I will not give it up to him."

“Two world champions, at the top of their game, matching each other in speed, power, stamina and courage is a recipe for a great fight,” said Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum. “Manny has never felt the power thrown at this weight class just as Diaz has never gone toe-to-toe with such a human dynamo. But Manny possesses an inner strength from his fellow countrymen the likes I have never seen as a promoter with over 40 years of experience.

Manny is more than a national treasure to the Philippines, he is the very symbol of its national pride. He doesn’t fight for himself, he fights for his people. It’s a responsibility that no other athlete could, or attempt to, accomplish.”

“Boxing fans recognize that in Pacquiao vs. Diaz you have one of the sport’s best fighters and biggest attractions moving up in weight to challenge a bigger, stronger champion,” said HBOPPV’s Mark Taffet. “It’s a very intriguing proposition and we look forward to the event."

Dubbed "Republica Enemy No. 1," Pacquiao (46-3-2, 34 KOs), from General Santos City, Philippines, has blitzed through the best fighters Mexico has had to offer since 2003 including Erik Morales (KO 3, TKO 10), Marco Antonio Barrera (TKO 11, W 12), Juan Manuel Marquez (W 12, D 12), Oscar Larios (W 12), Emanuel Lucero (TKO 3), Hector Velazquez (TKO 6) and Jorge Solis (KO 8). Pacquiao was named 2006 Fighter of the Year by the Boxing Writers Association of America and The Ring magazine for his two spectacular knockout victories of Mexican icon and three-division champion Morales, as well as his dominating 12-round unanimous decision over former world champion Larios. The hard-hitting southpaw has won 22 of his last 23 bouts including 2007 victories over Barrera and Solis. Pacquiao’s 12-round split decision victory over Marquez earlier this year not only avenged a disputed draw from their 2004 battle, it also made Pacman a four-division world champion.

Diaz (34-1-1, 17 KOs), from Chicago, will be making the second defense of his title. He successfully defended it against the three-division world champion Morales last summer winning a hard-fought unanimous decision over the future Hall of Famer. Although behind on the scorecards early, Diaz remained cool and rallied before the raucous hometown Chicago crowd of 10,000 to capture the decision. He swept the championship rounds and won the decision by scores of 114-113, 115-113 and 115-112. With the victory, Diaz cemented his place among the best lightweights in the sport and one of the most popular and respected athletes in the sports-crazy town of Chicago. A member of the 1996 U.S. Olympic team, Diaz, with 12 years of experience as a professional, is more than prepared to handle the pressures that come with battling boxing’s pound-for-pound most exciting fighter.

The Pacquiao vs. Diaz pay-per-view telecast beginning at 9 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. PT, has a suggested retail price of $49.95, will be produced and distributed by HBO Pay-Per-View and will be available to 71 million pay-per-view homes. The telecast will be available in HD-TV for those viewers who can receive HD. HBO Pay-Per-View is the leading supplier of event programming to the pay-per-view industry.
