Maidana vs. Lopez, a 12-round fight for Maidana's WBA Intercontinental Championship, is promoted by Golden Boy Promotions and sponsored by Corona.  The tripleheader will take place on Saturday, June 8 at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. and will be televised live on SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING beginning at 10:00 p.m. ET/7:00 p.m. PT. Thomas LaManna Ready to Drop Jaws at Resorts Casino on March 8‏

New Jersey’s own Thomas “Cornflake” LaManna (10-0, 6 KOs) will be stepping into the ring again on March 8 at Resorts Casino Hotel in Atlantic City, New Jersey, on the undercard of the ESPN2 Friday Night Fights-televised night of boxing, promoted by Sampson Boxing and featuring Victor Cayo (31-3 22 KOs) vs. Emmanuel Taylor (16-1 11 KOs) in the main event.

“It is an honor to be fighting in front of Teddy Atlas, Joe Tessitore, and the ESPN crew. It motivates me to look even better,” said LaManna.

LaManna will be facing Joshua Snyder of Berlin, Maryland, (9-8-1, 3 KOs). “Everyone is telling me this is going to be a hard fight, but I am training hard to put on a good performance.”

With a new strength-and-conditioning coach, the tutelage of Bernard Hopkins, and having spent five weeks as the chief sparring partner for Demetrius Hopkins, LaManna said he feels confident and stronger going into this fight, which will take place at 160 lbs, six pounds higher than his usual fighting weight of 154.

“I walk around at 165, so not having to sweat down those last pounds the week of the fight is nice.”

LaManna says he plans to impress when he steps in the ring on March 8. “This is the fight where I am going to prove to the haters, as well as the fans, that I have what it takes… Jaws will be dropped. One thing that I have in this fight that I can’t say I’ve had in any other is pure confidence… when I got the call from Sampson that I was on the card, I was excited. And when I found out I was fighting Josh Snyder, I was even more excited.”

Rising star Javier Flores ready to shine June 18 on ‘The New Generation Boxing Series’ card in Hartford‏

Undefeated Puerto Rican welterweight prospect Javier “El Chino” Flores takes on veteran Shaka Moore in the eight-round co-feature on “The New Generation Boxing Series,” presented by Bulldog Cartel Promotions, Saturday night, June 18 launches its Saturday night, June 18 at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford.

The eight-round main event features battle-tested cruiserweights with deceiving records, Joshua “Juice” Harris (7-4-1, 5 KOs), of Providence, and Harvey “Candy Man” Jolly (11-17-1, 6 KOs).

Flores (5-0, 5 KOs), now fighting out of Hartford, has stopped each of his five opponents as a professional, including an electrifying second-round knockout of Marcus Hall this past February. As an amateur in Puerto Rico, Javier won 65 of 68 matches with 32 knockouts and all of his losses were on points.

“I’m going to give the public a good fight to watch,” Flores said the former Puerto Rico Nationa Boxing Team member. “I’m giving a maximum effort to make it an action-packed fight. I don’t go into a fight looking for a knockout, but after a round or two feeling out my opponent, once I know he can’t hurt me I apply more pressure, break him down, and the knockout comes.“I have power in both hands and a variety of punches. My friends like my left upper-cut the best and I’m working to use that punch in combinations with different punches.”

The 35-year-old veteran Moore (11-15-3, 2 KOs), of Norwalk (CT), is coming off of a win in April by fourth-round technical decision against Noel Garcia, also at the Connecticut Convention Center. During his 15-year pro career, he’s fought the likes of Israel “Pito” Cardona and Demetrius Hopkins.

“I know my opponent has a lot of experience,” Flores noted. His last fight I noticed that he didn’t have a lot of stamina. On June 18th I’m going to apply pressure and expose him”

Another hot prospect on the card, super middleweight Lamar Russ (7-0, 5 KOs), puts his perfect record on the line against TBA. Russ, also fighting out of Hartford, upset Haitian Olympian Elie Augustama by six-round decision in December.

Promising junior featherweight Luis Rosa, Jr. (6-0, 5 KOs), representing New Haven, vs. Shawn “Bones” Nichol (5-4, 5 KOs) in a six-rounder. Also fighting on the undercard in four-round bouts are New Haven junior welterweight Carlos Hernandez (0-2) against Springfield’s (MA) Barrington Douse (0-1), along with three New Haven boxers making their pro debuts – lightweight Oscar Bonilla vs. Corey White (1-1, 1 KO), junior featherweight Josh Crespo vs. Frankie Garriga and super middleweight Charles Foster vs. Lee Snow. Garriga and Snow will also be making their pro debuts.

Former IBO super bantamweight champion “Machine Gun” Mike Oliver (24-2, 8 KOs), rated No. 2 by the USBA and fighting out of Hartford, vs. TBA and unbeaten New Haven super lightweight Christian Lao (2-0, 1 KO) vs. Javier Calderon (1-0, 1 KO)have been added to the card.

HOLT HANDLES HOPKINS, RETAINS TITLE WITH SPLIT DECISION;

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ.– Kendall Holt successfully retained his World Boxing Organization (WBO) Jr. Welterweight world title against previously undefeated Demetrius Hopkins Saturday night by split decision on a special edition of ShoBox: The New Generation. Scores were 116-112, 117-111 for Holt and 115-113 for Hopkins.



In the jr. middleweight co-feature, Yuri Foreman’s speed and footwork proved too much for his opponent. Foreman nearly shut out James Moore in the 10-round bout. Scores were 100-90, 99-90, 99-91.


Saturday’s fight card was presented by Bob Arum’s Top Rank Inc. from Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City.

Holt of Paterson, N.J. improved his record to 25-2 (13 KOs) while Hopkins of Philadelphia, Pa. falls to 28-1-1 (11 KOs).

Hopkins, who was initially scheduled to fight on the undercard against Germaine Sanders, stepped into the main event after Holt’s original opponent, Ricardo Torres, withdrew from the fight due to illness.

“Champions aren't born. They're made by overcoming adversity," said Holt after the fight. "And I've faced adversity since I was a child. This past week wasn't anything new for me."

World Boxing Council (WBC) 140-pound champion Timothy “Desert Storm” Bradley sat ringside Saturday and got an up close and personal look at his next opponent. Bradley and Holt will meet in a world title unification fight early next year on SHOWTIME.

"Kendall Holt was aggressive tonight,” said Bradley. “That was something to see. He looked very impressive. We are two young, great champions and this will be good for boxing."

Bradley, of Palm Springs, Calif., is enjoying a meteoric rise to the top of the 140-pound division. Bradley defeated Junior Witter in England on May 10, 2008 to capture the title. He went on to successfully defend it just four months later against Edner Cherry on Sept. 13 on SHOWTIME.

"Timothy Bradley is a good fighter,” said Holt on Saturday night. “He throws a lot of punches and a lot of combinations. He's going to make me be very aware in there.”


Foreman of Brooklyn, NY by way of Gomel, Belarus remained undefeated Saturday night and improved his record to 27-0 while Moore of Queens via Arklow, County Wickow, Ireland faced the second loss of his career with a record now of 16-2.

SHOWTIME will replay Saturday’s telecast on Wednesday, Dec. 17, at 11 p.m. ET/PT on SHO 2.

Nick Charles called the action from ringside with boxing historian Farhood serving as expert analyst and Al Bernstein serving as ringside reporter. The executive producer of ShoBox is Gordon Hall with Richard Gaughan producing and Rick Phillips directing.

HOLT: Ricardo Torres, pulling a stunt like this so close to the fight. They had to get Demetrius Hopkins, who I like, to fill in. He’s a good fighter who is technically sound. But, because of Ricardo Torres – and I want all the Demetrius Hopkins fans to blame Ricardo Torres – because now Hopkins has to face me and now his “0” must go.


I don’t want everybody to blame me and be mad at Christmas time because Demetrius Hopkins doesn’t have a goose egg anymore because he has his first loss.

HOLT: I think he didn’t want to take the fight from the beginning. I think he was just going through the motions because he’s a boxer. When push came to shove, he realized that he really didn’t want this fight.

(On change in style from Torres to Hopkins)

HOLT: Hopkins is a talented fighter. He has speed, he’s rangy and he has long arms and good foot movement. A lot of mental toughness will come into play on Saturday. Emotionally, physically and mentally I was preparing for a different type of fight. Two months of preparing that way, (now) to a couple days to do a complete (180) is going to be mentally challenging.

(On facing Bradley to Unify the Jr. Welterweight titles in 2009)

HOLT: I’m definitely looking forward to the Bradley fight. I achieved one of my dreams of becoming World Champion. Now, my ultimate goal is to unify the titles. I’ve already signed on to fight (Bradley) so, I just have to get past Demetrius Hopkins and I am on my way to unifying the titles.

Junior middleweight James Moore relishes the role of the underdog against NABF champion Yuri Foreman

James Moore, 16-1 (10 KOS), a native of County Wicklow, Ireland, who fights out of Queens, New York, relishes the role of the underdog in the waning days of his preparation to wrest the NABF title from Yuri Foreman, 26-0 (8 KOS), at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City on December 13.

The 10 round bout will open the ShoBox: the New Generation broadcast headlined by WBO junior welterweight champion Kendall Holt defending his crown against Demetrius Hopkins. Top Rank is promoting the show.

Many boxing experts believe that the quick-handed and fleet-footed Foreman, who is rated in the top-ten by all of the major sanctioning bodies, will be much too elusive for the offensive-minded Moore.

“All of the experts picked Oscar De La Hoya to beat Manny Pacquiao, and we know what happened there,” said the 30-year-old Moore who recently returned from a month-long training camp at the Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles, where Pacquiao prepared for De La Hoya.

“The experts have no way of measuring the desire that burns within me, especially for this fight. In essence, I’ve been training for this fight for my whole life. A victory will really shoot me up the ladder and make me a contender overnight.

“It’s funny,” added Moore, a veteran of 314 amateur fights and the former captain of the Irish national amateur team. “In boxing, you are only as good as your last fight or your next fight. I came to the United States to pursue a professional championship. The only way to a title is through Yuri Foreman. I understand that he has the same dreams and ambitions as I do, but I plan on walking out of the ring a winner on Saturday night. I’ve worked too hard and too long to expect or accept anything less.”

Holt was originally slated to face former 140-pound champ Ricardo Torres in a rubber-match, but Torres withdrew from the fight on Monday.

"Torres really wanted to fight but he was ill during camp, missed some training and was not in the condition he needed to be in for a war like this," said Bruce Trampler, chief matchmaker for Top Rank.

Now, Holt will have his hands full with the undefeated Hopkins, the nephew of former middleweight champion Bernard Hopkins. The 28-year-old Hopkins is in peak condition as he was originally scheduled to fight Germaine Sanders on the undercard of Saturday's bout. When he learned Torres pulled out, he jumped at the opportunity to fight for his first world title.

According to manager Cameron Dunkin, Hopkins, upon accepting the fight, went immediately into an intense, all-day training session and was unavailable for comment.

Dunkin said, "Demetrius had been training hard for his fight with Germaine, and he has redoubled his efforts. He knows he needs to lose three more pounds but he will be on weight by Wednesday. He has completely devoted himself to being ready for this fight.

"This is a fight that he has wanted for a long time," the manager continued. "His first world title fight; we have wanted this for a long time. I am excited and proud that he will get the chance on Saturday. This is what we've been waiting for."

A top contender at 140-pounds, Hopkins holds key victories over Steve Forbes, Ernesto Zepeda and Jesse Feliciano. With Hopkins hailing from Philadelphia, and Holt from Paterson, N.J., it is essentially a home-game for both fighters.

OSCAR RETURNS! DE LA HOYA VS. FORBES, SATURDAY MAY 3RD

The Golden Boy is coming home to HBO. For the first time in years, Oscar De La Hoya will fight live on HBO against former champ Steve Forbes. Saturday, May 3 at 10:00 PM ET/7:00 PM PT.

Headlining the inaugural boxing event at The Home Depot Center's 27,000-seat soccer stadium, Los Angeles native Oscar De La Hoya (38-5, 30 KOs) will fight live on HBO's flagship boxing series for the first time since 2001. Coming off the highest-grossing fight in history - his showdown with Floyd Mayweather Jr. in May 2007 - the former six-division world champion will be making his 31st appearance on HBO, hoping to thrill the fans who have supported him since his amateur days in East Los Angeles. The fight also marks the return of Floyd Mayweather Sr. to the De La Hoya corner as head trainer.



Steve Forbes (33-5, 9 KOs), from Las Vegas by way of Portland, Ore., is coming off a split-decision victory over the highly touted Francisco Bojado last October. A former super featherweight champion and finalist on "The Contender," who has never been knocked down in 11 years as a professional, Forbes will be making his HBO debut under the tutelage of Mayweather Sr.'s brother, Jeff Mayweather.

Steve Forbes was born with a fighter's heart. Born several months early and tipping the scales at a mere two pounds, the doctors told Steve's family that their baby would probably never survive. But for the first of many times, Steve Forbes beat the odds, and proved that "heart is everything".

Using his childhood as motivation, Steve entered the physically demanding and often dangerous sport of boxing. As an amateur, he compiled a record of 57-10 and was a five-time Washington and Oregon Golden Gloves Champion. By 1997, Forbes knew it was time to turn pro, so he moved to Las Vegas to further pursue his Championship dreams. Steve ran off fifteen consecutive wins to begin his career, before challenging and losing his first title shot for the IBA Lightweight Title.

On September 17, 2000, Forbes fought his way into the IBF's No.2 spot by capturing the United States Boxing Association (USBA) 130-pound title on a 12-round decision over David Santos. In his first title defense, Steve beat the then 22-7-0 John Brown; however, his inability to make the 130 pound weight limit caused the IBF to strip him of his title.

Considered by many to be the most talented boxer ever to enter the Contender Tournament, Steve Forbes was the fighter nobody wanted to face. In the opening round of the tournament, Steve showed everyone why he was the man to beat by earning a unanimous decision against Freddy Curiel ultimately becoming the first fighter to advance to the "fabulous four".

In front of more than 12,000 enthusiastic fans at Staples Center in Los Angeles, Steve Forbes entered the Contender Championship with redemption on his mind. Forbes and Grady Brewer went head to head for 10 rounds. After the final round, featuring a flurry of punches that brought the crowd to their feet, Brewer went onto be crowned the Contender Season 2 Champion by way of split decision.

Since the Contender Finale, Steve has returned to his ideal fighting weight of 140lbs. to re-establish his place in the junior welterweight division. On March 17th 2007, Steve took on USBA Champion Demetrius Hopkins in a 12 round battle. In the end, the judges gave Demetrius the win by unanimous decision which was met by both the crowd and press with much disbelief. Never detoured, Forbes handled the situation with pure professionalism and turned it into inspiration in his quest to become the best.

In October 2007, Forbes was matched against the younger Francisco Bojado for a bout set to go ten rounds. Each round would feature Bojado attacking Forbes from the start only to tire a short time later. On the other hand, Forbes remained consistent and was able to land many uppercuts eventually taking the fight by split decision.
