FRANCISCO VARGAS AND JOSE AGUINIGA SET FOR BATTLE ON MAY 3 FOR THE NABF SUPER FEATHERWEIGHT TITLE IN THE MAIN EVENT WHEN BOXING RETURNS TO THE COSMOPOLITAN OF LAS VEGAS‏

Kicking off the Cinco de Mayo celebration and a weekend of legendary boxing, all eyes will be on the battle waged between unbeaten contenders Francisco Vargas and Jose Aguiniga when they collide at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas on Friday, May 3 for the vacant NABF Super Featherweight title. On the eve of the world-recognized event Mayweather vs. Guerrero, the 10-round championship bout pitting 2008 Olympian Vargas against 33-0 Aguiniga is destined to shake up the 130-pound division. The event will be televised on FOX Sports Networks, FOX Deportes and FUEL TV. Plus, 2012 United States Olympian Errol Spence Jr. makes his second professional appearance in Las Vegas in a six-round welterweight bout and fellow 2012 United States Olympian Joseph "Jo Jo" Diaz Jr. returns for his second fight at The Cosmopolitan in a six-round junior featherweight tilt.

The exhilarating night of boxing action is presented by Golden Boy Promotions and Mayweather Promotions and sponsored by Corona. Taking place in The Chelsea, doors open at 6:00 p.m. PT on fight night and the first bell rings at 6:30 p.m. PT. The FOX Sports Networks and FOX Deportes bi-lingual simulcast will air live at 11:00 p.m. ET/8:00 p.m. PT. FUEL TV will rebroadcast the fight on a date to be announced.

Now fighting out of Los Angeles, 28-year-old Francisco Vargas (15-0-1, 12 KO's) represented his native Mexico in the 2008 Olympics, going 1-1 in the Olympic Games. Since turning pro in 2010, Vargas has built a reputation for having a versatile skill set and ring savvy. Last year, he turned up the heat fighting and winning six times with five of those wins coming by way of knockout. On January 26, Vargas kept his hot streak going with a second- round knockout win over Ira Terry in Las Vegas. He will be back in the boxing capital of the world this May to meet his toughest opponent to date in the unbeaten Aguiniga.

Long established as one of boxing's top rising stars, Oxnard's Jose Aguiniga (33-0, 15 KO's) raced out to a 31-0 professional record and was on the verge of big things before surprisingly walking away from the sport after his 2007 win over Joe Morales. In 2011, there were rumblings of a comeback and in February of 2012, he returned with an eight-round unanimous decision win over Juan Ruiz. Three months later, Aguiniga added a seventh- round technical knockout victory against Eduardo Arcos and on May 3, he will look to return to continue his journey to the top of his division with a win over Vargas.

One of the most promising talents from the Olympic class of 2012, United States team member Errol Spence Jr. (4-0, 3 KO's) has blasted through all of his opponents since turning professional last November, knocking out Jonathan Garcia, Richard Andrews and Nathan Butcher and scoring a shut-out decision win over Luis Torres in his last fight on March 2. On May 3, the DeSoto, Texas prospect will enter the ring looking to impress once again.

Fellow 2012 United States Olympian Joseph "Jo Jo" Diaz Jr. (3-0, 1 KO) has also made a smooth transition to the world of professional boxing, winning all of his bouts since debuting last December with a unanimous decision win over Vicente Alfaro. In February, Diaz scored his first pro knockout at The Cosmopolitan, finishing Jose Ruiz in the second round. Then a month later, on March 16, he returned to the ring and looked strong in a six-round unanimous decision win over Mexico's Alberto Cupido. On May 3 he is sure to wow the crowd at The Cosmopolitan once again.

A co-featured bout and a full undercard will be announced shortly.

Dave Murphy’s Thunderdrome Promotions Presents ‘Thunder and Lightning’ MARIANNE ‘GOLDEN GIRL’ MARSTON Vs. ALEKSANDRA JASJUKEVICA 27th April 2013 @ York Hall, London

Marston Dedicates 27th April Fight To Smokin’ Joe‏
My opponent on the 27th April will be Aleksandra Jasjukevica

British Featherweight Marianne Marston is to dedicate her upcoming fight, against Latvia’s Aleksandra Jasjukevica at York Hall, Bethnal Green in London on Saturday 27th April 2013, to the memory of her recently departed mentor, Legendary Heavyweight Champion of the World Smokin’ Joe Frazier.

Following an accidental meeting with Smokin’ Joe at a coffee shop in Philadelphia, Marston was invited to try out at his North Philadelphia gym.

The trial was clearly a success as Smoke immediately invited her to join his female boxing team, which also included Heavyweight Dee Moses and Welterweight Faatimah Balmer.

After a series of extended trips to Philly, from her home in London, to be coached by the legend himself and his son Marvis, Marston relocated to the City of Brotherly Love, in order to thoroughly prepare for her planned professional debut.

Unfortunately within a few months of her moving to Philadelphia, Smokin’ Joe Frazier’s Gym unexpectedly closed.

Even though Marston had moved her training base across town, to The James Shuler Memorial Gym in West Philadelphia and later following her return to London, she and the Smoke regularly kept in touch, as Frazier had always been particularly keen on news of how his ‘Golden Girl’ was progressing, as well as taking any opportunity of reminding her that he wanted to be ringside at her first fight.

Following a training session at the TRAD TKO Boxing Gym in London, Marston reminisced about her time with the legend that is Smokin’ Joe Frazier.

“Joe was my childhood hero, he always was one of the biggest influences in my wanting to box in the first place.

Even though I was regularly in Philly on business, I never expected to meet Joe, at the time I didn’t even realize he still had a gym there.

To meet him was something else, I suppose because it was a totally accidental meeting it makes it even more special.

To actually be coached by him was a dream come true.

At times it was quite surreal, like the time I was at the gym and about to wrap my hands, Joe came over took the wraps from me and began wrapping my hands. I mean he’s my all time hero and yet here he was wrapping my hands.

To this day I still wrap my hands the way he showed me, I wouldn’t change the way I do them for the World.

Even after the gym closed we kept in touch, Joe always said to me don’t forget to let him know when I will be fighting, as he wanted to be there.

When Joe died I was not just deeply saddened but also felt a lot of anger, not at Joe, but at the ‘powers that be’ that had prevented me fighting professionally until recently.

Joe wanted to be at my debut, yet those morons and their prejudice against Women’s boxing stalled my career, it’s so disappointing that now I’m actually able to fight professionally Joe can’t be there in the flesh… but I know he’ll be there in spirit.

Joe supported Women’s boxing, not just because his daughter Jacqui boxed, but because he believed Boxing to be a sport for everyone. We were all treated the same in the gym, we were all boxers, not male or female.

Joe was so special and I owe him so much, not just because he trained me. Joe taught me so much and gave me so much belief in my ability, if it wasn’t for him I probably would have given up on my dream a long time ago.

Even after my return to London Joe’s support and kind words were a major factor in my determination to ‘fight the system’ and achieve my dream.

On the 27th April, I WILL win and WILL do it in style as I am fighting for the memory of one of the greatest people, as well as greatest boxers, I have ever had the pleasure of knowing, Smokin’ Joe Frazier.”

Marianne Marston versus Aleksandra Jasjukevica features on the undercard of Dean ‘Irish Lightning’ Byrne - Jay ‘IOW Assassin’ Morris International Masters Welterweight Championship clash which headlines Dave Murphy’s Thunderdrome Promotions ‘Thunder & Lightning’ event at York Hall, Bethnal Green in London on the 27th April 2013.

GOLDEN BOY PROMOTIONS STATEMENT ON LAMONT PETERSON'S FEBRUARY 22 POST-FIGHT DRUG TEST

Contrary to earlier erroneous media reports, Lamont Peterson did not fail a post-fight drug test following his successful IBF Junior Welterweight World Championship defense against Kendall Holt on Friday, February 22 in Washington, DC. In fact, Peterson tested negative for all banned substances on the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Full Menu as well as human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) and luteinizing hormone (LH).
"We are very pleased that there has been clarification that Lamont Peterson did not test positive for any banned substances as reported inaccurately earlier today," said Richard Schaefer, CEO of Golden Boy Promotions. "Today's incident exemplifies the importance of accurate fact checking prior to reporting news. Golden Boy Promotions looks forward to Lamont Peterson's next fight and furthering his career."

EXCLUSIVE DOCUMENTARY FILM "30 DAYS IN MAY" REVEALS INTIMATE & THOUGHTFUL PORTRAIT OF BOXING SUPERSTAR FLOYD MAYWEATHER DURING HIS "LIFE-CHANGING EXPERIENCE"

"
30 DAYS IN MAY," a revealing documentary film chronicling the days surrounding Floyd Mayweather's incarceration in 2012, premieres Wednesday, April 3, at 10 p.m. ET/PT on SHOWTIME®.  The one-hour film was created exclusively from never-before-seen footage and features the only interviews Mayweather has conducted about this "life-changing experience."
Watch a preview from the upcoming documentary film 30 DAYS IN MAY before it premieres on Wednesday, April 3rd at 10PM ET/PT on SHOWTIME.
"30 DAYS IN MAY" offers an intimate look into the life of the world's highest-paid athlete as he prepares for one of the most challenging experiences of his life.  It provides a look inside his life, from his flamboyant mansion to a surprise birthday party for his daughter, while he prepares for life in a jail cell smaller than his bedroom closet.  Ultimately, "30 DAYS IN MAY" reveals a man at peace with his impending incarceration and his evolution as a human being.
The debut of the documentary kicks off an unprecedented programming lineup in support of the upcoming SHOWTIME PPV® presentation of "MAY DAY: Mayweather vs. Guerrero," featuring Mayweather's first fight back in the ring since his release from jail.  The mega-event, headlined by the undefeated Eight-Time and Five Division World Champion Mayweather facing Six-Time and Four-Division World Champion Robert Guerrero, takes place Saturday, May 4 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nev.
Produced by Jackson Nguyen and Todd Crites of Turn Left Productions, "30 DAYS IN MAY" chronicles the days between Mayweather's May 5, 2012 victory over Puerto Rican superstar Miguel Cotto and the start of a three-month jail term on June 1, 2012 at the Clark County Detention Center in Las Vegas.  The film concludes on Aug. 3, Mayweather's self-described "best day of my life," when he was released after serving two months behind bars.
"Our goal was not to tell his whole story - his humble upbringing or all of his accomplishments - but rather to document the life of a modern day superstar leading up to his three-month prison term," said Crites.  "What we are most proud of with '30 DAYS IN MAY' is that it reveals a side of Floyd Mayweather that few get to witness - a person who is somewhat of a simple man, caring, eloquent, soft-spoken and, at times, reflective of not only himself, but also the world around him."
"This film unveils a rarely seen side of a very public figure," said Stephen Espinoza, Executive Vice President and General Manager, SHOWTIME Sports®.  "There are poignant moments, refreshing moments and a candid look into how this experience affected Floyd.  I can't think of a better program to begin our unique lineup of content, which will culminate with Mayweather's return to the ring against Robert Guerrero on May 4."
"MAY DAY: Mayweather vs. Guerrero," a 12-round fight for Mayweather's WBC Welterweight World Championship, is promoted by Mayweather Promotions and Golden Boy Promotions and sponsored by Corona, O'Reilly Auto Parts, AT&T and Star Trek Into Darkness.  The mega-event will take place Saturday, May 4 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas and will be produced and distributed live by SHOWTIME PPV® beginning at 9:00 p.m. ET/6:00 p.m. PT.  Also featured will be Daniel Ponce de Leon vs. Abner Mares, a 12-round fight for Ponce de Leon's WBC Featherweight World Championship.
