KIMBO SLICE vs. JAMES "COLOSSUS" THOMPSON

KIMBO SLICE vs. JAMES "COLOSSUS" THOMPSON

Heavyweight sensation Kimbo Slice will headline the first-ever CBS ELITEXC SATURDAY NIGHT FIGHTS. Kimbo, aka Kevin Ferguson, who resides in Perrine, Fla., near Miami, will be matched against James "Colossus" Thompson, a British MMA standout whose pre-fighting resume includes work as a "debt collector." Thompson is aptly nicknamed, standing at six-foot-five and weighing more than 250 pounds. He will be the first MMA fighter to possess a height advantage over the six-foot-two-inch Kimbo. 2004 U.S. Olympian Jason “Big Six” Estrada fighting again on ESPN2 FNF this week

PROVIDENCE 2004 U.S. Olympian Jason “Big Six” Estrada fights this week on ESPN2 Friday Night Fights for the second time in seven weeks when he faces Carolina heavyweight champion Moultrie “Jack Hammer” Witherspoon (14-1, 8 KOs) in an 8-round Special Heavyweight Attraction co-feature on “Ring Warriors,” promoted by Jimmy Burchfield’s Classic Entertainment and Sports, Inc. (CES), live from Twin River Events Center in Lincoln, Rhode Island.

Providence native Estrada (12-1, 2 KOs), rated No. 9 by the NABO, is coming off of arguably his most impressive victory as a pro, taking a one-sided 10-round decision from former NABO/NABA/WBC Continental Americas heavyweight champion Lance “Mount” Whitaker (32-5-1, 27 KOs) in their April 4 ESPN2 FNF show headliner.

On his personal mission to become heavyweight champion of the world, Estrada has fought anybody his promoter, Jimmy Burchfield, has put in the ring with him and none of them has had a losing record (203-73-9 combined record of his opponents when they fought Estrada).

“I’m not looking past Witherspoon,” Estrada said. “He’s coming to beat me, but it’s not happening in my house. I will be world heavyweight champion someday and he’s in my way. I’m real excited to be fighting on ESPN2 Friday Night fights for the second time in seven weeks. Fans all over can see what skills I take into the ring. I’m challenging anybody who believes they can stop me to step up to the plate. Arreola is fighting Witherspoon (June 21). Give me the winner and I’ll show the world who is the best heavyweight prospect, Jason Estrada.

“I dominated the United States amateur scene for years and I’m going to do the same as a pro on the way to becoming heavyweight champ. I’m willing to fight anybody to prove it – prospect, contender, veteran, comebacker, champion or title-holder moving up from cruiserweight. Anybody!”

The 27-year-old Estrada was one of the most highly decorated American amateur boxers ever, compiling an amazing 261-14 record in U.S. competition, becoming the first boxer to win both the U.S. Nationals and U.S. Challenge three years (2001-2003) in a row. Highlights of his amateur career included representing the United States in the 2004 Olympics and capturing a gold medal at the 2003 Pan-American Games.

During his tremendous amateur career, Estrada defeated some of today’s leading professionals including former world title challenger DaVarryl “The Touch of Sleep” Williamson (24-5, 20 KOs), unbeatens Malik Scott (30-0, 10 KOs) and Donnell “The Real Touch of Sleep” Holmes (28-0-2, 24 KOs), Malcolm “The Showstopper” Tann (23-4, 12 KOs), and Felix “Bad News” Cora, Jr. (18-2, 9 KOs).

Tickets for “Ring Warriors” are priced at $25.00, $35.00, $50.00, (Bronze), $65.00 (Silver), $100.00 (Gold) and limited $150.00 (Jimmy’s Platinum Club) and are available to purchase by calling CES (401.724.2253/2254), going on line at www.cesboxing.com or www.twinriver.com, at the Twin River Event Center (100 Twin River Road, Lincoln, RI), or any TicketMaster location. Contact CES (401.724.2253/2254/www.cesboxing.com) or Twin River Events Center (877.82.RIVER/ www.twinriver.com) for more information. Doors open at 6 PM/ET, first bout at 7 PM/ET.

COV GLOVE TO BE FEATURED THIS FRIDAY ON ESPN 2 "FRIDAY NIGHT FIGHTS"

PHILADELPHIA- COV GLOVE will be featured this Friday night as Aaron Williams and Jose Luis Herrera headline a night of boxing in Lincoln, Rhode Island.

COV GLOVE is a synthetic material that covers the tape on the wrist. It protects from tape coming loose which in turn stops action in fights. COV GLOVE also protects from the tape scratching against the eyes.

"We got great response after the first card that the product was used on ESPN 2 in late March." said COV GLOVE founder, David Price.

"Since then I have had a lot of commissions and promoters call me and ask how they would go about implementing the product in their fights and states. The fighters that have used it have commented to me about how they feel and how stylish they are. When Teddy Atlas, who is very concerned with safety issues in boxing, mentioned the product during the Kassim Ouma-Corneilius Bundrage show validates COV GLOVE."

The Williams-Herrera show will be shown all over the country on ESPN 2

Quotes from May 21 press conference for June 4 show featuring Yusaf Mack-Daniel Judah and James Moore-Gabriel Rosado in Brooklyn, N.Y. Show on ESPN 2

The show, which will be televised on ESPN 2’s Wednesday Night Fights, is being promoted by Winky Wright Promotions, in association with Thomas Gallagher Productions. Wright, a former world champion, and Gallagher, who starred in season one of “The Contender” reality television series, will both be in attendance.

The main event will feature Yusaf Mack, 24-2-2 (15 KOS), of New York via Philadelphia vs. Daniel Judah, 22-2-3 (10 KOS), of Brooklyn. At stake will be the vacant NABA light heavyweight title.

Mack is not the least bit concerned about fighting Judah, of Brooklyn’s famed Judah family, on his home turf. “I like big challenges, so the fact that he is so well known in Brooklyn gives me more incentive to win,” said Mack. “I’m glad the fight will be televised on ESPN 2 because I plan on having a knockout performance.”

Opening the telecast will be the enormously popular James Moore, 15-0 (10 KOS), a native of County Wicklow, Ireland, who fights out of Queens. He takes on Gabriel Rosado, 9-2 (6 KOS), of Philadelphia. In Rosado’s lone New York appearance, he avenged a loss to Joshua Onyango. Both of Rosado’s losses were by close decision.

Moore, a veteran of 314 amateur fights and the former captain of the Irish national amateur team that included John Duddy and Andy Lee, is coming off his biggest win to date, a 10 round decision over J.C. Candelo at Madison Square Garden.

“I am in fantastic shape right now and really looking forward to fighting on ESPN 2,” said Moore, who just returned from Sicily where he helped IBF junior welterweight champion Paul Malignaggi prepare for his May 24 title bout. “This is going to be my breakout year, so I plan on putting on a really good show on June 4.”

For tickets call Gleason’s Gym at 718-797-2872. For tickets and sponsorship opportunities contact Tommy Gallagher at 917-774-3517.

Quotes from May 21st Press Conference for June 4th Brooklyn Show‏

The Aviator Sports & Recreation Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. will host its third boxing event in three months on June 4. The show, which will be televised on ESPN 2’s Wednesday Night Fights, is being promoted by Winky Wright Promotions and Thomas Gallagher Productions, in association with Sal Musemeci’s Final Forum.

It will be headlined by Yusaf Mack, 24-2-2 (15 KOS), of New York via Philadelphia, vs. Daniel Judah, 22-2-3 (10 KOS), of Brooklyn.

In the co-feature, the extremely popular James Moore, 15-0 (10 KOS), a native of County Wicklow, Ireland, who fights out of Queens, will battle Gabriel Rosado, 9-2 (6 KOS), of Philadelphia.

At the May 21 press conference at Jack Demsey’s Irish pub in midtown Manhattan, Mack said he wasn’t concerned with fighting someone from the famed Judah family in their hometown. Judah is the brother of former world champion Zab Judah.

“This just feeds my fire,” said Mack, whose beloved father passed away last month. “I’m coming to fight and I’m coming to win. I will be victorious.”

“This is the perfect fight for me,” countered Judah. “My family is not fighting this fight. It’s just me. I will hold my ground, and I will win.”

Moore not only stated that he is eager to battle Rosado, he is also willing to accept bouts with James Kirkland and Mexico’s Alfredo Angulo, both of whom scored big victories on HBO’s Boxing After Dark this past weekend.

“I’m looking to make my move, so I’m willing to fight any of these undefeated prospects,” said Moore, a veteran of 314 amateur fights and the former captain of the Irish national amateur team. “I don’t want easy fights. The bigger the challenges, the more I want the fights.”

HBO’s unofficial judge, Harold Lederman, was in attendance and said that the huge buzz about Moore is well-deserved. “He’s exciting and he has quick hands and good power,” said Lederman. “He’s one of the best junior middleweight prospects in the world, and he would be a great opponent for either Kirkland or Angulo.”

The Aviator Sports & Recreation Center is located on Flatbush Avenue, just south of the Belt Parkway, Exit 11S, Brooklyn, NY 11234.

For tickets call Gleason’s Gym at 718-797-2872. For tickets and sponsorship opportunities contact Tommy Gallagher at 917-774-3517.

CHICAGO SUN-TIMES TO STREAM LIVE FROM PACQUIAO-DIAZ BRUNCH ON WEDNESDAY‏

CHICAGO, IL, - The Chicago Sun-Times will stream live on Wednesday morning from the Chicago media brunch for boxing superstar MANNY PACQUIAO and World Boxing Council champion DAVID DIAZ as they promote their showdown set for June 28th at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The media brunch will start at 10:30AM (Chicago time) and will feature interviews with Pacquiao, Diaz and Bob Arum, head of Top Rank Incorporated.

The stream can be viewed at The Chicago Sun-Times website on their sports page at www.suntimes.com/sports. Fans can also visit the site ahead of time to pose questions for the participants.

When two explosive world champions at the top of their game mix it up for the world title, it’s a “Lethal Combination!” Newly-crowned World Boxing Council (WBC) super featherweight champion MANNY PACQUIAO and WBC lightweight champion DAVID DIAZ will battle in a 12-round rumble with Diaz’s title at stake.

Promoted by Top Rank, in association with MP Promotions, Pacquiao vs. Diaz will take place Saturday, June 28, at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino and will be produced and distributed live by HBO Pay-Per-View, beginning at 9 p.m. EDT / 6 p.m. PDT.

Remaining tickets for Pacquiao vs.Diaz, priced at $600, $400, $300, $200 and $100, can be
purchased at the Mandalay Bay box office and at all Las Vegas Ticketmaster locations (select Smith’s Food and Drug Centers, Macy’s West at the Fashion Show Mall, and Ritmo Latino). Ticket sales are limited to eight (8) per person. To charge by phone with a major credit card, call Ticketmaster at (702) 474-4000 or Mandalay Bay (702) 632-7580. Tickets are also available for purchase at www.mandalaybay.com or www.ticketmaster.com.

“This will be my hardest-fought battle,” said Pacquiao. “It’s been over three years since I have changed weight divisions and I will be doing it against the lightweight division’s world champion. I saw how he took the fight to Erik Morales in his last title defense and I’m expecting to see the same firepower out of him when we meet. But this is my drive for five. Five world titles in five different weight classes and I will not be denied. I am fighting for history, for destiny and for my people of the Philippines.”

"Manny Pacquiao has beaten many great fighters, especially Mexicans like Morales, Barrera, Marquez, Larios and Solis. That's why they call him “The Mexicutioner,” said Diaz. “I will shock the world and beat Pacquiao at his own game, power for power. He’s a great champion but he’s fighting in my division – lightweight. I have worked too hard for this world title and I will not give it up to him."

“Two world champions, at the top of their game, matching each other in speed, power, stamina and courage is a recipe for a great fight,” said Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum. “Manny has never felt the power thrown at this weight class just as Diaz has never gone toe-to-toe with such a human dynamo. But Manny possesses an inner strength from his fellow countrymen the likes I have never seen as a promoter with over 40 years of experience.

Manny is more than a national treasure to the Philippines, he is the very symbol of its national pride. He doesn’t fight for himself, he fights for his people. It’s a responsibility that no other athlete could, or attempt to, accomplish.”

“Boxing fans recognize that in Pacquiao vs. Diaz you have one of the sport’s best fighters and biggest attractions moving up in weight to challenge a bigger, stronger champion,” said HBOPPV’s Mark Taffet. “It’s a very intriguing proposition and we look forward to the event."

Dubbed "Republica Enemy No. 1," Pacquiao (46-3-2, 34 KOs), from General Santos City, Philippines, has blitzed through the best fighters Mexico has had to offer since 2003 including Erik Morales (KO 3, TKO 10), Marco Antonio Barrera (TKO 11, W 12), Juan Manuel Marquez (W 12, D 12), Oscar Larios (W 12), Emanuel Lucero (TKO 3), Hector Velazquez (TKO 6) and Jorge Solis (KO 8). Pacquiao was named 2006 Fighter of the Year by the Boxing Writers Association of America and The Ring magazine for his two spectacular knockout victories of Mexican icon and three-division champion Morales, as well as his dominating 12-round unanimous decision over former world champion Larios. The hard-hitting southpaw has won 22 of his last 23 bouts including 2007 victories over Barrera and Solis. Pacquiao’s 12-round split decision victory over Marquez earlier this year not only avenged a disputed draw from their 2004 battle, it also made Pacman a four-division world champion.

Diaz (34-1-1, 17 KOs), from Chicago, will be making the second defense of his title. He successfully defended it against the three-division world champion Morales last summer winning a hard-fought unanimous decision over the future Hall of Famer. Although behind on the scorecards early, Diaz remained cool and rallied before the raucous hometown Chicago crowd of 10,000 to capture the decision. He swept the championship rounds and won the decision by scores of 114-113, 115-113 and 115-112. With the victory, Diaz cemented his place among the best lightweights in the sport and one of the most popular and respected athletes in the sports-crazy town of Chicago. A member of the 1996 U.S. Olympic team, Diaz, with 12 years of experience as a professional, is more than prepared to handle the pressures that come with battling boxing’s pound-for-pound most exciting fighter.

The Pacquiao vs. Diaz pay-per-view telecast beginning at 9 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. PT, has a suggested retail price of $49.95, will be produced and distributed by HBO Pay-Per-View and will be available to 71 million pay-per-view homes. The telecast will be available in HD-TV for those viewers who can receive HD. HBO Pay-Per-View is the leading supplier of event programming to the pay-per-view industry.
