Kermit Cintron has caught wind of Shane Mosley’s struggles to make a fight, and like the rest of the boxing world, he doesn’t want to see “Sugar” Shane sit on the shelf for the rest of the year. So, Kermit wants Shane and the rest of the world to know he is ready to step up and make a fight between two of the world’s best welterweight
With Cintron (31-2-1, 27 KOs) and Mosley (46-5, 39 KOs) both coming off wins considered amongst the biggest of their respective careers – for Cintron, a 12-round unanimous decision over previously unbeaten Alfredo Angulo, and for Mosley, a 9th round knockout over consensus welterweight champion Antonio Margarito – there is no time like the present for the two combatants to get it on.
“I feel like right now it makes sense,” said Cintron. “With Cotto fighting Pacquiao and Mayweather fighting Marquez, I don’t see why he wouldn’t take a fight with me.”
Cintron’s promoter Lou DiBella believes his charge is up to the challenge of a fight with Mosley and it wouldn’t take much effort from either end to get the job done.
“Mosley has always looked to face the stiffest competition and right now Kermit is one of the toughest challenges available,” said DiBella. “Kermit is willing to fight anywhere from 147 to 154 pounds. I don’t think we would have to spend significant time negotiating to make a fight between these two great warriors.”
Besides the obvious reasons Cintron and Mosley would make for such a compelling fight, it would be a clash between two fighters who have made long careers of all-action fights.
“It would be a great fight between us. A tough fight between great fighters,” said Cintron. “It’s a big risk, I understand that. But it’s the one fight out there that is easily available for both of us.”

ELIO ROJAS GETS HIS WBC BELT!
Newly crowned WBC featherweight champion Elio "The Kid" Rojas (21-1, 13 KOs) arrived at Don King's office in South Florida today to receive his belt that had been rush-delivered by the WBC from Mexico.
Rojas fought in Tokyo on July 14 and took champion Takahiro Aoh's strap by unanimous decision. It was his first world title appearance.
The 26-year-old 126-pound titlist already celebrated in his adopted hometown of Brooklyn, N.Y., and now plans a truimphant return visit to his native Dominican Republic over the weekend.

Unbeaten featherweight Matt “Sharp Shooter” Remillard keeps pluggin’ along
MANCHESTER, Conn.– WBC Youth and USNBC featherweight champion Matt “Sharp Shooter” Remillard is learning first-hand how the risk-and-reward theory in boxing can work against a fighter.
For the second time in a row, veteran Edel “Cuate” Ruiz (32-22-4, 23 KOs) pulled out of a scheduled bout against Remillard. Ruiz had done the same thing two months earlier in Maryland.
The 23-year-old Remillard (18-0, 10 KOs), fighting out of Manchester, Connecticut, put late replacement Tyler Ziolkowski (11-7) to sleep at the midway point of the opening round in their July 10th fight in Reno.
“I was a little frustrated the fight fell apart again,” Matt said. “It’s happened to me a lot. Most importantly, though, I got my opponent out of there early. I didn’t want it to go rounds because it would have looked bad for me. I was a professional, getting him out of there right away, and now we’ve moved on. I can only hope it (opponent pulling out) doesn’t happen again.
“I think a lot (available opponents) has to do with it being this weight class and the economy. I understand. Nobody wants to fight an undefeated fighter, unless they’re making a lot of money. As a pro fighter, I need to understand that those things are going to happen, maybe for a little while longer, but I feel that it’s all going to lead-up to the right fight.”
Remillard hopes to be back in action within two months, possibly headlining a show in Connecticut.

'Knockout Fight Club' Inaugural Event to Be Held at M2 Ultra Lounge in NYC on August 19th
PURCHASE, N.Y., Winky Promotions and Knockout Entertainment Inc. (www.KnockoutSeries.com) announced the launch of a series of events entitled "Knockout Fight Club." The series mixes professional bouts with musical performances and stages the events in some of the trendiest clubs and cities in the Country.Each event will boast professionally sanctioned boxing followed by performances from successful musical entertainers. Beibut Shumenov challenging WBA light heavyweight champ Gabriel Campillo August 15 in Kazakhstan
LAS VEGAS– In only his ninth professional fight, unbeaten light heavyweight sensation Beibut Shumenov will challenge current champion Gabriel “Chico Guapo” Campillo, making the first defense of his newly won World Boxing Association title belt, August 15 in Kazakhstan.
The Aug. 15th show will be presented by KZ Event Productions, owned and operated by the Shumenov brothers, Beibut and Chingis, in association with Sampson Boxing, LLC.
2004 Kazakhstan Olympian Shumenov (8-0, 6 KOs), 2008 WBC Asian Boxing Council Organization’s Boxer of the Year and reigning International Boxing Association title-holder, is currently rated No. 8 by the WBA. Two months ago in Kazakhstan, Beibut stopped former world champion Byron Mitchell in the fourth round. Shumenov has also defeated former world champion Montell Griffin and world title challenger Epifanio Mendoza by 12 and 10 round decisions, respectively, during his young pro career.
Former European champion Campillo (18-2, 6 KOs), a stylish southpaw from Spain, captured the WBA crown June 20, traveling to Argentina and winning a 12-round majority decision against local favorite Hugo Hernan Garay (32-3).

BRIAN “THE BIONIC BULL” COHEN TO HEADLINE ON AUGUST 14TH IN SALEM, NEW JERSEY
SALEM, NEW JERSEY— On Friday night, August 14th, Dungeon Warrior Promotions in association with Bionic Bull Promotions to present a big night of boxing that will take place at the John B. Campbell Family & Fitness Center in Salem, New Jersey.
In the featured bout, Brian “The Bionic Bull” Cohen will see action in an eight round Light Heavyweight bout as he will defend his WBC Continental America’s title.
Cohen of Philadelphia brings in a record of 10-2 with nine knockouts and is coming off hit title winning victory as he took out Robbie Tovar in one round on May 9th in South Philadelphia.
Cohen has been a bit of a traveler as he has fought in Atlantic City; Lafayette, Indiana; Tower, Minnesota; Oklahoma City and Kokomo, Indiana.
Cohen’s formidable opponent will be announced shortly.
Also seeing action will be rising Lightweight, “Hammering” Hank Lundy.
Lundy of Philadelphia has been one of the fastest up and a comer’s in the country as he has already taken on five undefeated fighters and has a record of 13-0-1 with seven knockouts.
Lundy will be coming in off a very impressive stoppage over then 10-0 Jason Cintron on April 24th in Newark, New Jersey.
Lundy dominated the brother of former IBF Welterweight champion until the referee had to stop the fight at in round five of the scheduled eight round affair.
Lundy’s opponent will be named shortly.
All-action Victor Vasquez will be in an action on August 14th in a six round Jr. Welterweight bout.
Vasquez always pleases his throngs of fans and his come forward style usually has him in the fight of the night whenever he is in action.
Vasquez, 9-3 with five knockouts is coming off a six round unanimous decision over Linwood Hurd at The Legendary Blue Horizon in his hometown of Philadelphia.
Coy Evans, 4-0-1 of Philadelphia will battle the durable Darrell Martin in a Jr. Lightweight fight.
Evans and Martin were supposed to fight on July 10th but that fight has now been pushed back to August 14th.
Evans is coming off a four round unanimous decision over Jose Espinal (5-3-1) on February 3rd in Brooklyn, NY.
Martin of Baltimore has a record of 4-9 with one knockout. To say Martin has been matched tough is an understatement as the combined record of his fourteen opponents is 52-7-6 and Evans will be the fourth consecutive undefeated fighter that Martin will have faced.
The highlight of Martin’s career was his stunning third round stoppage over Jules Blackwell (8-1-2) on December 5th 2008.

In the featured bout, Brian “The Bionic Bull” Cohen will see action in an eight round Light Heavyweight bout as he will defend his WBC Continental America’s title.
Cohen of Philadelphia brings in a record of 10-2 with nine knockouts and is coming off hit title winning victory as he took out Robbie Tovar in one round on May 9th in South Philadelphia.
Cohen has been a bit of a traveler as he has fought in Atlantic City; Lafayette, Indiana; Tower, Minnesota; Oklahoma City and Kokomo, Indiana.
Cohen’s formidable opponent will be announced shortly.
Also seeing action will be rising Lightweight, “Hammering” Hank Lundy.
Lundy of Philadelphia has been one of the fastest up and a comer’s in the country as he has already taken on five undefeated fighters and has a record of 13-0-1 with seven knockouts.
Lundy will be coming in off a very impressive stoppage over then 10-0 Jason Cintron on April 24th in Newark, New Jersey.
Lundy dominated the brother of former IBF Welterweight champion until the referee had to stop the fight at in round five of the scheduled eight round affair.
Lundy’s opponent will be named shortly.
All-action Victor Vasquez will be in an action on August 14th in a six round Jr. Welterweight bout.
Vasquez always pleases his throngs of fans and his come forward style usually has him in the fight of the night whenever he is in action.
Vasquez, 9-3 with five knockouts is coming off a six round unanimous decision over Linwood Hurd at The Legendary Blue Horizon in his hometown of Philadelphia.
Coy Evans, 4-0-1 of Philadelphia will battle the durable Darrell Martin in a Jr. Lightweight fight.
Evans and Martin were supposed to fight on July 10th but that fight has now been pushed back to August 14th.
Evans is coming off a four round unanimous decision over Jose Espinal (5-3-1) on February 3rd in Brooklyn, NY.
Martin of Baltimore has a record of 4-9 with one knockout. To say Martin has been matched tough is an understatement as the combined record of his fourteen opponents is 52-7-6 and Evans will be the fourth consecutive undefeated fighter that Martin will have faced.
The highlight of Martin’s career was his stunning third round stoppage over Jules Blackwell (8-1-2) on December 5th 2008.

On this edition of No Holds Barred, host Eddie Goldman continues our coverage of the worldwide grappling revival by focusing on the ADCC Regional Championships (http://www.adccregionals.com/).
Three events are scheduled in the coming weeks in the U.S. on this newly-created circuit, which uses the same rules as those of the Abu Dhabi Combat Club's Submission Fighting World Championships.
On Friday, July 24, and Saturday, July 25, the ADCC Texas Championships will take place at the Legends Sports Complex in Spring, Texas, near Houston. The first day will feature a free seminar for registrants with ADCC standout and two-time finalist Pablo Popovitch, as well as weigh-ins and registration. After a rules meeting and late weigh-ins and registration, the tournament will begin Saturday at 9:30 AM.
The following weekend, Friday, July 31, and Saturday, August 1, the ADCC Las Vegas Championships will take place at Bally's Event Center. There is a similar format, with a free seminar for registrants that Friday evening with two-time ADCC champion Jeff Monson.

Jones, 26, is one of boxing’s hottest and most-avoided prospects. His 17-0 record includes 15 knockouts. He is ranked No. 10 in the world by the World Boxing Association (WBA), No. 10 by the International Boxing Federation (IBF), No. 13 by the World Boxing Organization (WBO).
A pro since 2005, Jones won the vacant NABA title last summer when he knocked out Juliano Ramos, a Brazilian living in Boca Raton, FL, in six rounds at the New Alhambra in South Philadelphia.
Jones also has beaten Doel Carrasquillo, of Lancaster, PA; Israel “Pito” Cardona, of Hartford, CT, and Germaine Sanders, of Chicago, IL.
The Jones-Mosley title fight originally was scheduled for March 6 in Philadelphia, but Mosley withdrew six days prior when he injured his back in training. Jones knocked out late substitute Dairo Esalas, of Miami, FL, in front of a standing-room-only crowd at the Blue Horizon. More than 300 customers were turned away after the 1,346-seat building had been filled to capacity.
The fight was re-scheduled for June 6th but Jones suffered an injury and had to withdraw.
Prior to the Esalas fight, Jones K0d rugged Mexican Luciano Perez on Dec. 5 at the Sovereign Center in Reading, PA. Jones also has boxed in Las=2 0Vegas, NV; Spokane, WA; Niagara Falls, NY, and Salamanca, NY.
Mosley, 29, has a 15-3-2 record, 6 K0s. This will mark his second trip to Atlantic City, where he K0d Alexis Divison, of Miami, FL, on Aug. 4, 2005.
Jones and Mosley boxed on the same card March 3, 2006, at the New Alhambra. Most ringside observers thought Mosley was unlucky to be held to a 12-round draw that night by Miguel Figueroa, of Camden, NJ. Jones K0d Chris Gray, of Miami, FL, in two rounds in his second pro fight on the undercard.
Mosley followed the draw with Figueroa by boxing another 12-round draw, this time with world-rated Golden Johnson in Houston, TX, Johnson’s backyard.

Dominican Fighter Ventures Into the Land of the Rising Sun to Take Title
Elio Rojas Wins WBC Featherweight Championship
TOKYO— Don King’s top featherweight, Elio “The Kid” Rojas, scored a convincing unanimous-decision win today in Tokyo to take the World Boxing Council championship held by Takahiro Aoh.
Rojas (21-1,13 KOs), from the Dominican Republic now fighting out of Brooklyn, N.Y., was No. 1 ranked by the WBC as well as mandatory challenger to the champion. He ventured into Aoh’s hometown and dominated him from the opening bell.
Rojas dazzled Aoh and his partisan crowd with an array of punches and combinations landed with speed, accuracy and power.

TOKYO— Don King’s top featherweight, Elio “The Kid” Rojas, scored a convincing unanimous-decision win today in Tokyo to take the World Boxing Council championship held by Takahiro Aoh.
Rojas (21-1,13 KOs), from the Dominican Republic now fighting out of Brooklyn, N.Y., was No. 1 ranked by the WBC as well as mandatory challenger to the champion. He ventured into Aoh’s hometown and dominated him from the opening bell.
Rojas dazzled Aoh and his partisan crowd with an array of punches and combinations landed with speed, accuracy and power.

Terry, who has insisted that he will still undertake full time
coaching duties, will head up a first class coaching team that
includes John Rooney Jnr., former Gleason’s Gym New York and Supreme
Team Coach Barry Robinson, who is best known as the star of the
Million Boxing Style video series, Ben Day, Karol (Carl) Ozimkowski
and Darren Hamilton.
In addition to coaching Terry will also be developing world class
training programmes for Amateur and Professional boxers as well as
specific courses for White Collar Boxers and those just wishing to use
the pugilistic arts as a way of getting healthier and fitter.
On the announcement of his new position Terry briefly said “After a

Terry Edwards is without doubt British amateur boxing's greatest and
most successful coach of all time. Terry started his stellar England
and Team GB career in 1986 as London region coach, he was promoted to
Senior National coach in 2001, Performance Director in 2005 and in
2007 became Great Britain Head Coach.
Over the years Terry has guided the cream of British professional
boxing, such household names as current Super Middleweight World
Champion Carl 'The Cobra' Froch, undisputed Cruiserweight World
Champion David 'Hayemaker' Haye and Lightweight World Champion Amir
Khan, through their amateur careers.
During his reign as England and Great Britain coach Terry has taken
his illustrious charges to three Olympic games, five World
Championships, five European Championships and three Commonwealth Games.
His first class coaching and leadership skills netted five Olympic
medals, Gold for Audley Harrison (Sydney 2000) and James DeGale
(Beijing 2008), Silver for Amir Khan (Athens 2004) and Bronze for
David Price and Tony Jeffries (Beijing 2008) as well as a World Title
for Frankie Gavin. Terry also guided Bantamweight Luke Campbell to
being Great Britain’s first European Champion last year.
In 2004 Terry was voted UK’s sports coach of the year and four years

Martin Lindsay, spoke briefly of Terry and the new gym before flying
to Bulgaria where he plans to create a state of art Boxing Camp for
Professional, Amateur and White Collar Boxers. “The plan basically is
for the gym to be the main Boxing Gym in London, if not the UK.

a wealth of world class coaching experience. He coached the British
team for the last three Olympics and during that time established

The two greatest pound-for-pound boxers today, Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather, Jr., lead a group of six active champions in “The World’s Greatest Ever Boxers” (TWGEB) promotion.
On-line voting at www.GreatestEver.com allows boxing fans from around the world to select the greatest boxer in each of the original eight weight classes, highlighted by the all-time pound-for-pound “Greatest Ever.”
Pacquiao (49-3-2, 37 KOs), riding a 10-fight win streak against a contemporary “Who’s Who” list of world-class boxers, is 3-0 versus other TWGEB nominees, Marco Antonio Barrera (twice) and Oscar de la Hoya. A candidate in TWGEB featherweight division, “Pac Man” has held world titles in five different weight classes, defeating other world champions such as Ricky Hatton, David Diaz, Juan Manuel Marquez and Erik Morales (twice).

Chambers back on rise after big ring victory--By Don Steinberg of The Philadelphia Inquirer
What a difference a gigantic victory can make. Eddie Chambers, the 27-year-old Philadelphia heavyweight contender, talks these days with a new swagger, like a fighter with a bright eye on the future instead of regrets about one bad night last year.
On July 4, in Hamburg, Germany, Chambers established himself as one of the world's elite heavyweight boxers. He dominated Alexander Dimitrenko, a previously undefeated, 6-foot-7, 254-pound Ukrainian. The win earned Chambers (35-1) a shot at Wladimir Klitschko, the world heavyweight champion, and conceivably a multimillion-dollar payday. That may happen in early 2010.
Against Dimitrenko, Chambers showed superior skills from Round 1 and never let up. He battered Dimitrenko with stiff jabs, hard rights, and fast combinations, blasting the big man with body shots that had him cringing. In Round 10, he decked Dimitrenko with a left hook to the jaw that sent his mouthpiece flying.
"I was jabbing my way in," the normally humble Chambers said, uncharacteristically brash in describing his victory. "I went to the teeth of the alligator, but I had knives on me, and I was stabbing him in his mouth while I was going inside. Then I got to his heart and dug it out."
If Chambers is gloating, it's understandable. His only previous trip to Germany didn't go as well. In January 2008, he went to Berlin with a similar docket. A win over undefeated Russian Alexander Povetkin would have put Chambers in line for a shot at Klitschko.
Chambers was cruising to victory in the first half of the fight, then inexplicably fizzled and allowed Povetkin to surge back and win. Chambers thinks his head failed more than his body; nervous tension and the magnitude of the moment, in his first time traveling overseas, overwhelmed him.
"I got a little weak in there - mentally weak. And I gave that fight away," he said.
It was just one loss, but overnight Chambers went from contender to question mark. The Povetkin fight had been on HBO. His next three weren't televised.
"That one fight turned me from a good six figures [his purse for the Povetkin fight] back to four almost," he said. "I mean, I lost one fight - and I was winning the fight until I blew it. One fight can do that?"
"After a loss like that, you have a choice: Stay there or you move forward," said Rob Murray Sr., Chambers' manager. After the loss, Murray stepped in to become trainer as well. Chambers had been trained for years by his father, Eddie Chambers Sr., who put his son in the ring as a teenager to build his confidence in a tough section of Pittsburgh where Eddie Jr. was harassed by bullies. Murray - who had grown up in Philadelphia gyms, learning from legendary trainers like Yank Durham, and had worked the corner of Bernard Hopkins - became a close family friend. He brought Chambers to Philadelphia and oversaw his growth, including 17 fights at the Blue Horizon from 2002 to 2006.
Under Murray's training, Chambers won three low-profile fights in 2008, then in March beat former champion Samuel Peter to earn a ticket back to Germany - a second chance. Murray took Chambers to train in the Poconos. They worked on technique, analyzed films of greats like Joe Louis beating bigger opponents. They brought in a conditioning coach and put Chambers on a diet, honing him from a flabby 223 pounds to a muscular 208.
"If you'd have cut my head off, you wouldn't even have recognized who it was," Chambers said.
His head changed, too.
"We got away from the negative energy," Chambers said.
In Hamburg, at the hotel before this month's fight, Rob Murray Jr., who does promotions for Team Chambers, showed the heavyweight a passage in an old book, The Greatest Salesman in the World, by Og Mandino. It was about taking advantage of what's in front of you.
"It just made me just relax," Chambers said. "I knew I was in shape. I just had to go out and perform, not worry about failure. Act now."
He did.
On Friday, the elder Murray hosted a celebratory cookout for Chambers. They had a cake made that said "Team Chambers Independence Day."
"Hey, champ!" someone yelled when Chambers arrived. Champ? Not yet.
Klitschko is bigger (6-6) and more experienced (50-3, 47 knockouts) than Chambers. But in 2006, the 6-1 Chambers sparred with Klitschko and was able to muscle him around. Who knows what's possible?
"The change in Eddie mentally and physically was apparent," Dan Goossen, Chambers' promoter, said after the fight. He called the win over Dimitrenko a "performance we believed he always had in him."
Now, Goossen said, "I don't care who the champion is, how big they are. Eddie Chambers showed that he can be a giant-killer."

"I was jabbing my way in," the normally humble Chambers said, uncharacteristically brash in describing his victory. "I went to the teeth of the alligator, but I had knives on me, and I was stabbing him in his mouth while I was going inside. Then I got to his heart and dug it out."
If Chambers is gloating, it's understandable. His only previous trip to Germany didn't go as well. In January 2008, he went to Berlin with a similar docket. A win over undefeated Russian Alexander Povetkin would have put Chambers in line for a shot at Klitschko.
Chambers was cruising to victory in the first half of the fight, then inexplicably fizzled and allowed Povetkin to surge back and win. Chambers thinks his head failed more than his body; nervous tension and the magnitude of the moment, in his first time traveling overseas, overwhelmed him.
"I got a little weak in there - mentally weak. And I gave that fight away," he said.
It was just one loss, but overnight Chambers went from contender to question mark. The Povetkin fight had been on HBO. His next three weren't televised.
"That one fight turned me from a good six figures [his purse for the Povetkin fight] back to four almost," he said. "I mean, I lost one fight - and I was winning the fight until I blew it. One fight can do that?"
"After a loss like that, you have a choice: Stay there or you move forward," said Rob Murray Sr., Chambers' manager. After the loss, Murray stepped in to become trainer as well. Chambers had been trained for years by his father, Eddie Chambers Sr., who put his son in the ring as a teenager to build his confidence in a tough section of Pittsburgh where Eddie Jr. was harassed by bullies. Murray - who had grown up in Philadelphia gyms, learning from legendary trainers like Yank Durham, and had worked the corner of Bernard Hopkins - became a close family friend. He brought Chambers to Philadelphia and oversaw his growth, including 17 fights at the Blue Horizon from 2002 to 2006.
Under Murray's training, Chambers won three low-profile fights in 2008, then in March beat former champion Samuel Peter to earn a ticket back to Germany - a second chance. Murray took Chambers to train in the Poconos. They worked on technique, analyzed films of greats like Joe Louis beating bigger opponents. They brought in a conditioning coach and put Chambers on a diet, honing him from a flabby 223 pounds to a muscular 208.
"If you'd have cut my head off, you wouldn't even have recognized who it was," Chambers said.
His head changed, too.
"We got away from the negative energy," Chambers said.
In Hamburg, at the hotel before this month's fight, Rob Murray Jr., who does promotions for Team Chambers, showed the heavyweight a passage in an old book, The Greatest Salesman in the World, by Og Mandino. It was about taking advantage of what's in front of you.
"It just made me just relax," Chambers said. "I knew I was in shape. I just had to go out and perform, not worry about failure. Act now."
He did.
On Friday, the elder Murray hosted a celebratory cookout for Chambers. They had a cake made that said "Team Chambers Independence Day."
"Hey, champ!" someone yelled when Chambers arrived. Champ? Not yet.
Klitschko is bigger (6-6) and more experienced (50-3, 47 knockouts) than Chambers. But in 2006, the 6-1 Chambers sparred with Klitschko and was able to muscle him around. Who knows what's possible?
"The change in Eddie mentally and physically was apparent," Dan Goossen, Chambers' promoter, said after the fight. He called the win over Dimitrenko a "performance we believed he always had in him."
Now, Goossen said, "I don't care who the champion is, how big they are. Eddie Chambers showed that he can be a giant-killer."

Steve ‘USS’ Cunningham, Defeats Braithwaite, Now Looks To Adamek For Overdue Rematch.
Former Cruiserweight King Steve ‘USS’ Cunningham took a huge leap
towards regaining his coveted IBF championship belt when he
convincingly outboxed former WBC Champ Wayne ‘Big Truck’ Braithwaite
to take a well deserved victory.
By doing so ‘USS’ Cunningham returned to the top of the IBF rankings
earning him the right, as mandatory challenger, for the long overdue
rematch with current champion Tomasz ‘Goral’ Adamek, who took his
crown by a close split decision victory last December in what has gone
down in the annals of boxing history as the greatest Cruiserweight
fight of all time.
The, surprisingly, off-TV battle between two of the Cruiserweight
division’s finest former champions, fighting for the right to face the
current champion, lived up to all expectations and, although not
quite up to the standards of last year’s Cunningham-Adamek, could
rightly be described as the the best Cruiserweight fight of 2009 so
far.
Philadelphia’s ‘USS’ Cunningham controlled the early proceedings with
fast hands, slick combinations and superior boxing technique.
Guyanan born Braithwaite, now based in Florida, kept coming forward
but rarely had any real impact on his far quicker opponent, round
three being the only exception.
As the fight progressed into the final quarter ‘Big Truck’ shifted
gear and had done more than enough enough in the ninth to win that
round. However that was not to last and the juggernaut that is ‘USS’
Cunningham stepped up things again to finish the contest off in
convincing style and justifiably being declared the victor. The judges
scorecards read 119-109, 118-110 & 117-111.
After some well deserved rest Steve ‘USS’ Cunningham talked briefly
about the excellent result and the positive implications for his
career. "It was a great night for me, I was in there with a tough
opponent, Wayne came to the fight in good shape and prepared, but it
was my night. Brother Naazim and I had a great camp and I believe we
showcased a new and improved Steve ‘USS’ Cunningham.
Now, I am rated IBF number one and mandatory challenger to Tomasz

Terry Edwards MBE Coaching Marianne ‘Golden Girl’ Marston For September Fight.
British Super Bantamweight Marianne ‘Golden Girl’ Marston’s American
visa woes, which prevented her debuting on the undercard of Brian
Cohen’s WBC Americas title fight in South Philadelphia in May, have
been well documented over the past few months, however the plucky
blonde hasn’t been sitting back and sulking instead she has been
training for six hours a day at Rooney’s Boxing Gym in London.
Marianne’s clear ability and dedication hasn’t gone unnoticed by
anyone that has visited Rooney’s Boxing Gym over the past few months,
including Great Britain’s most successful coach of all time, Terry
Edwards MBE, who offered to spend some time coaching her.
The timing of Terry’s offer couldn’t be better as just a few days
earlier Marianne had been contacted by Ivan Cohen of ABB Corp
inc/Bionic Bull Promotions, who promoted the May event that Marianne
was due to debut at, to enquire if she would be able to make their
South Philadelphia event on the 26th September.
During a break in her training schedule Marianne spoke of how this
offer from Terry Edwards came about, "I was doing my normal workout
when John (gym owner John Rooney Jnr) and Terry came into the gym.
John introduced Terry to everyone and then they went out for coffee.
A little later I was sparring with Ben (Welterweight Ben Day), we were
really going at it, we always do. Ben’s great to spar, he doesn’t
treat me like a girl, you know, he doesn’t hold back. He’s slick and
very hard to land a good shot on, a bit like Carl Froch style wise,
you really have to work hard to get to him. We didn’t even notice that
John and Terry had come back and were watching us.
After we finished Terry came over and said I had done really well as
Ben is an awkward fighter to deal with. I couldn’t help thinking that
was a huge compliment, then he blew me away by saying he’d like to
come to the gym and work with me. To say I was excited at the prospect
is an understatement, who wouldn’t be, Terry is the best coach in
England.
I have enjoyed every single second of the time Terry and Dave (Dave
Pocknell, Terry’s number two at Team GB) have spent working with me
and am looking forward to the next session. They are so easy to work
with and I always learn something new that improves my technique.
One of the things I really like about Terry and Dave is that they
teach you the technical side of things as well. l believe this will
really help me when I finally get to fight.
I’ve missed my training with Steve (former IBF Cruiserweight Champion
Steve ‘USS’ Cunningham) and I’m missing all the guy’s at Shulers
(The James Shuler Memorial Gym in West Philadelphia) but can’t
complain too much when I get to work with one of the sports greatest
coaches and get to train at a world class gym like Rooney’s every
day."
During their highly successful tenure as Team GB coaches Terry and
Dave guided such luminaries as Audley Harrison, Amir Khan, James
DeGale, David Price and Tony Jeffries to Olympic glory as well as
securing a World Title for Frankie Gavin and a European Championship
title for Luke Campbell. So just what do these two highly successful
coaches think of their latest charge?
Terry Edwards, who is well known as someone that speaks his mind and
doesn’t pull punches, said of Marianne, "I have been working with
Marianne for the last four weeks and I think she’s made tremendous
strides in that four weeks. I think she has a good style about her,
she’s very gritty and determined. I think that potentially she could
go all the way."
Dave Pocknell then added, "I think her footwork is terrific, she has a
powerful shot with the left hand, her movement is excellent and she
really knows how to control the centre of the ring. I reckon she’s
going to be a really good boxer."
If all goes according to plan Marianne should finally be able to put
all the new knowledge and technique that Terry and Dave have drilled
her with into competitive action in South Philadelphia on the 26th

including Great Britain’s most successful coach of all time, Terry
Edwards MBE, who offered to spend some time coaching her.
The timing of Terry’s offer couldn’t be better as just a few days
earlier Marianne had been contacted by Ivan Cohen of ABB Corp
inc/Bionic Bull Promotions, who promoted the May event that Marianne
was due to debut at, to enquire if she would be able to make their
South Philadelphia event on the 26th September.
During a break in her training schedule Marianne spoke of how this
offer from Terry Edwards came about, "I was doing my normal workout
when John (gym owner John Rooney Jnr) and Terry came into the gym.
John introduced Terry to everyone and then they went out for coffee.
A little later I was sparring with Ben (Welterweight Ben Day), we were
really going at it, we always do. Ben’s great to spar, he doesn’t
treat me like a girl, you know, he doesn’t hold back. He’s slick and
very hard to land a good shot on, a bit like Carl Froch style wise,
you really have to work hard to get to him. We didn’t even notice that
John and Terry had come back and were watching us.
After we finished Terry came over and said I had done really well as
Ben is an awkward fighter to deal with. I couldn’t help thinking that
was a huge compliment, then he blew me away by saying he’d like to
come to the gym and work with me. To say I was excited at the prospect
is an understatement, who wouldn’t be, Terry is the best coach in
England.
I have enjoyed every single second of the time Terry and Dave (Dave
Pocknell, Terry’s number two at Team GB) have spent working with me
and am looking forward to the next session. They are so easy to work
with and I always learn something new that improves my technique.
One of the things I really like about Terry and Dave is that they
teach you the technical side of things as well. l believe this will
really help me when I finally get to fight.
I’ve missed my training with Steve (former IBF Cruiserweight Champion
Steve ‘USS’ Cunningham) and I’m missing all the guy’s at Shulers
(The James Shuler Memorial Gym in West Philadelphia) but can’t
complain too much when I get to work with one of the sports greatest
coaches and get to train at a world class gym like Rooney’s every
day."
During their highly successful tenure as Team GB coaches Terry and
Dave guided such luminaries as Audley Harrison, Amir Khan, James
DeGale, David Price and Tony Jeffries to Olympic glory as well as
securing a World Title for Frankie Gavin and a European Championship
title for Luke Campbell. So just what do these two highly successful
coaches think of their latest charge?
Terry Edwards, who is well known as someone that speaks his mind and
doesn’t pull punches, said of Marianne, "I have been working with
Marianne for the last four weeks and I think she’s made tremendous
strides in that four weeks. I think she has a good style about her,
she’s very gritty and determined. I think that potentially she could
go all the way."
Dave Pocknell then added, "I think her footwork is terrific, she has a
powerful shot with the left hand, her movement is excellent and she
really knows how to control the centre of the ring. I reckon she’s
going to be a really good boxer."
If all goes according to plan Marianne should finally be able to put
all the new knowledge and technique that Terry and Dave have drilled
her with into competitive action in South Philadelphia on the 26th
September. Further details on this event are expected to be announced
shortly.
