MELDRICK TAYLOR MOVIE “TWO SECONDS FROM GLORY” IN THE WORKS

From the time he wrote down on a dresser drawer as an eight year old child that he would become a world champion, Meldrick Taylor had only one goal.
From being a prized amateur and a 1984 Olympic Gold Medal winner and then in 1988 finally realizing his dream when he knocked out Buddy McGirt to become the IBF Jr. Welterweight champion, Taylor wasn’t done.
After making two defenses, Taylor then took on his greatest challenge against then 68-0 future legend Julio Cesar Chavez.
Taylor went in as a big underdog but dominated the bout until he was controversially stopped just two seconds before the end of the fight.
Now, along with Taylor’s business partner Damon Feldman, a movie that will chronicle the life of Taylor is being shopped throughout Hollywood.
The working title is “Two Seconds from Glory”, an obvious reference to the memorable fight with Chavez.
“I am in talks with a few companies now, this is the Next Big Boxing movie, “says Damon Feldman.

“The feedback has been tremendous and we have reached out to a few A-list actors who we feel would be perfect for the movie.  They all have shown a great amount of interest.  There are so many actors who are big boxing fans and a couple in particular know Meldrick’s story very well and when they were presented the script, they were very interested.  We promise it will be a tremendous movie with some big name actors taking part in the film”

Taylor will be signing copies of his book TONIGHT at the Deck in Essington as part of his promotional company “Champions of Tomorrow” presents its 2nd fight card

TRAVIS KAUFFMAN TO TAKE ON ARRON LYONS ON AUGUST 23RD AT THE VALLEY FORGE CASINO RESORT

On Friday night, August 23rd, WBA #13 ranked Heavyweight Travis Kauffman will take on upset minded Arron Lyons in an eight round co-feature at the Valley Forge Casino Resort.
The show which is promoted by Kings Boxing will be headlined by a ten round Pennsylvania Lightweight championship bout between undefeated champion Naim Nelson (10-0, 1 KO) of Philadelphia defending his title against Ryan Belasco (18-5-3, 3 KO’s) of Wilmingtin, Delaware in a bout scheduled for ten rounds.
Kauffman of Reading, PA has a record of 24-1 with 18 knockouts and the former amateur star won his first eighteen bouts with big wins over Malachy Farrell and William Shahan.
After suffering his only blemish which was a controversial loss to Tony Grano, Kauffman has won six in a row which includes wins over Chris Koval and his last bout when he took out Willie Perryman in one round on February 15th.
“I don’t much on Lyons except that he is durable and goes rounds and he has upset some guys like Joey Abell”, said Kauffman.
“I am not just going in there to knock people out and on August 23rd I am looking for a stellar performance”.
“I know now that I am ranked every fight is a steppingstone and I know I have to dominate Lyons.”
Kauffman knows that being world ranked, that a big fight could be near.
“Whatever is in the future, let it be”
Kauffman is ready to fight anyone at the top of the division, but circumstances have prevented him from taking that defining figjt.
“I was called to fight Tomasz Adamek but they took Dominick Guinn.  Adamek is a hell of a fighter but I feel I can beat him.  I was offered a fight with undefeated WBA #2 ranked Luis Ortiz but it was only four weeks’ notice for very short money.  This is a business and the risk outweighed the reward.  I am taking this one day at a time, I have had injuries problems such as three hand surgeries, and ankle and shoulder problems but now I am completely healthy and ready to look to big things in my future”
Lyons of Gulfport, Mississippi has a record of 12-12-1 with nine knockouts and has the aforementioned win over Abell plus two wins over Gabe Brown and a win over Lenroy Thomas.
Lyons has also been in the ring with Charles Ellis, Eugene Hill, Johnnie White, Damian Wills, Luis Ortiz and Kelvin Price.
The rest of the card is as follows:
Frankie De Alba (8-1-2, 3 KO’s) of Reading, PA via Bayamon, PR will take on an opponent to be named in a six round Super Featherweight bout.
Miguel Cartagena (7-0, 3 KO’s) of Philadelphia will take on Miguel Eduardo  in a four round Bantamweight bout.
In four round bouts:
Lamont Capers (1-2) of Hawley, PA will battle Kamarah Pasley (6-6, 2 KO’s) of Philadelphia in a Cruiserweight fight.
Gerald Smith (3-0, 1 KO) of Philadelphia, PA will take on an opponent to be named in a Lightweight bout.
Damon Allen (2-0, 1 KO) of Philadelphia will battle Samuel Quinones Jr. (2-1, 1 KO) of York, PAin four round Lightweight bout.
Khalib “Big Foot” Whitmore (1-0) of Philadelphia battles Richard McCombs (1-4) of Washington, DC a Cruiserweight bout.

OSCAR DE LA HOYA FOUNDATION'S 13TH ANNUAL CHARITY GOLF CLASSIC HELD ON MONDAY, AUGUST 12 AT THE LAKESIDE GOLF CLUB LOCATED IN BURBANK, CALIF.‏

August 12 - For over a decade, the Oscar De La Hoya Foundation has positively affected the lives of those in the Southern California area, creating and maintaining a state of the art cancer center, a charter high school, a labor and delivery center and a neonatal intensive care unit.

But it isn't possible to do it alone, so on Monday, August 12, the Foundation's 13th annual charity golf classic was held at the Lakeside Golf Club, bringing not just "The Golden Boy," Oscar De La Hoya, to the links, but several entertainment and sports world celebrities who competed to raise money for this worthy cause.

"This event has always been one of the highlights of the year for me, not just because I have the opportunity to compete against my friends on the golf course, but because we were able to raise money and bring awareness to the work done by the Oscar De La Hoya Foundation," said founder De La Hoya.

In attendance at the August 12 charity golf tournament were Henry Tillman, John O'Hurley, Richard Schiff, Kelly Slater, Michael Pena, and Kevin Sorbo. All proceeds raised benefitted the Oscar De La Hoya Foundation.

In 1995, the Oscar De La Hoya Foundation was created to bring a better quality of life to the people of East Los Angeles. Today, with the help of many, the foundation serves thousands of people annually. The Foundation supports and funds the Oscar De La Hoya High School, the Cecilia Gonzalez De La Hoya Cancer Center and the Oscar De La Hoya Children's Medical Center (both located at the White Memorial Hospital) and numerous after school programs to help guide young people toward leading positive lives and away from gang violence, juvenile delinquency and substance abuse.

Sponsors for this year's classic included Barry's Tickets, MGM Resorts International, Enlow & Associates, World Boxing Association, World Boxing Council, White Memorial Medical Center, Showtime Sports, CBS Corporation, Brener Family Foundation, World Boxing Organization, UBS Private Wealth Management, The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, WTAS, Skechers, Representative Luis Arroyo, Children's Hospital Los Angeles, Wells Fargo Insurance, FOX Deportes and Golden Boy Realty Services, The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, and Art M. Gastelum (GSE).

MIGUEL “SILKY SMOOTH” GONZALEZ LOOKING FOR A CRAWFORD SHOWDOWN

Fresh off his eighth round stoppage over Josenilson Dos Santos on July 26th, Lightweight contender Miguel Gonzalez would like to reacquaint himself with amateur rival Terrance Crawford this fall.
Gonzalez (22-3, 16 KO’s) of Cleveland, Ohio was very impressive in his victory over Dos Santos which was his second consecutive win on ESPN’s Friday Night Fights.
“It was a tough fight with a tough guy”, said the 27 year-old Gonzalez.
“I was mentally and physically prepared for the fight and you saw the results”.
Gonzalez believes he is finally on the right course to become a world champion.
“It was supposed to be like this.  I am good at the sport and my confidence is there.  I am supposed to win and have been doing it for a long time.  I am nowhere near finished and the grind doesn’t stop.  I know what to expect when I go to camp and I will keep progressing”.
Gonzalez would like a shot at Crawford, who has an HBO date on October 5th and with the wins over Dos Santos and former world champion Miguel Acosta, Gonzalez believes he is qualified as anybody to deserve the opportunity to unseat the undefeated Crawford.
Gonzalez and Crawford have a history as they competed as amateurs with Crawford winning a controversial decision.
The fight took place in the United States Championships.
“I was up the whole fight and for some reason I was deducted a point in the last 15 seconds and that point was the difference as lost because of it by that one point”.
“We then fought in the Olympic trials and I beat him so I was satisfied with that”.
Gonzalez now would like a rubber match but this time in the pro ranks with the rising Lightweight contender from Nebraska.
“He is a talented boxer and it would be a great fight but I have the heart, style and desire to destroy him and I want the opportunity to prove it”.
Crawford’s television date is scheduled to take place on October 5th at the co-feature to the Miguel Cotto – Delvin Rodriguez Jr. Middleweight clash in Orlando, Florida.
“Orlando is a great Boricua community; I think that would be the perfect place for me for that fight to happen”.
“I want to thank my trainer Mike Stafford and Levi Smith and I can’t wait to perform again”.
Said Gonzalez’co-Promoter Arthur Pelullo of Banner Promotions, “Miguel has fought two very good fights back to back and he did it on the national stage.  We are very pleased with his progress and hope to have him in a big fight real shortly”.

UNDEFEATED JR. MIDDLEWEIGHT FRANK “NOTORIOUS” GALARZA JOINS “FIGHT FOR PEACE” WILL RETURN TO THE RING ON SEPTEMBER 21ST AT RESORTS WORLD CASINO IN QUEENS, NY

One of New York City’s fastest rising and exciting Junior-Middleweight prospects, Frank ‘Notorious’ Galarza, is now a proud member of the ‘Fight for Peace’ organization. Fight for Peace is a non-profit organization, that was founded by Luke Dowdney in 2000. This unique program has blended boxing, education, and youth services, to help promote peace and personal development to young children living in environments of poor social and economic backgrounds.
On August 10, Galarza will be embarking on a one week trip to Fight for Peace’s home-base, Brazil, to learn the organization values and practices. He will be bringing with him his own personal knowledge of dealing with hardships, as well as his boxing skill and most of all, his charisma which has made him one of New York’s best ticket sellers. Galarza will be dealing personally with some of Brazil’s most at-risk youth, and he plans on using what he has learned, to establish a Fight for Peace base in his native Brooklyn, NY at the Starrett City Boxing Club. “Before you become a champion inside the ring, you have to be one outside the ring.” Stated Galarza, “I’m extremely excited to be part of the Fight for Peace team. I am looking forward to going to Brazil and being an ambassador of not only boxing, but peace. This experience will definitely teach me so much, and I plan on implementing this program here in Brooklyn.”
No stranger to giving back, Galarza is in the process of setting up his own non-profit organization, “Fighting Forward”.  Not to be lost in his admirable work outside the ring, ‘Notorious’ is quick to point out that boxing is where his mind is at, at all times. “My training and boxing is still priority number 1. We resumed training immediately after my last victory, and my next match is September 21. I plan on staying undefeated, and rising up the ranks. I am blessed to have a great team around me who support my efforts with Fight for Peace, and they have been behind me 100%.”
Frank Galarza (10-0-2) will be competing on September 21 in an 8 round junior-middleweight match at the Resorts World Casino in Queens, NY. An opponent has yet to be named. Galarza is promoted by New Legend Boxing, Old World Boxing and WON Promotions. He is managed by A.J. Galante. For more information on Frank Galarza and future events, email eliteboxing@verizon.net

Just when fight fans thought "THE ONE: MAYWEATHER VS. CANELO" couldn't get any bigger, the opening two Pay-Per-View bouts of the September 14 mega-card at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas have been announced, with a third world championship bout and a meeting of two rising stars making this the must-see event of 2013.

In a 12-round battle for the IBF Junior Middleweight World Championship, Mayweather Promotions star and Las Vegas' own Ishe "Sugar Shay" Smith defends his crown for the first time against feared top contender Carlos Molina. The opening bout on the SHOWTIME PPV will be a 10-round welterweight showdown between Mexico's Pablo Cesar "El Demoledor" Cano and England's Ashley "Treasure" Theophane, the most recent fighter to sign with Mayweather Promotions.

"THE ONE: MAYWEATHER VS. CANELO," a 12-round fight for Canelo's WBC, WBA and Ring Magazine Super Welterweight World Championships and Mayweather's WBA Super Welterweight Super World Championship taking place Saturday, Sept. 14 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, is promoted by Mayweather Promotions, Golden Boy Promotions and Canelo Promotions and sponsored by Corona, O'Reilly Auto Parts, AT&T, Valvoline, Mexico Tourism, Fred Loya Insurance and Nature Nutrition. The event can be heard in Spanish using secondary audio programming (SAP).
After a long career that saw him go from the world of reality television as a star on "The Contender" to a series of ups and downs at 154 and 160 pounds, Las Vegas' Ishe "Sugar Shay" Smith (25-5, 11 KO's) finally put it all together in late 2010, beginning a four fight winning streak that culminated in a 12 round decision win over Cornelius Bundrage on February 23 earning the 34-year-old the IBF Junior Middleweight World Championship. Now the reign of "Sugar Shay" begins with a hometown bout against the always-tough Molina.
Long avoided by the elite at 154 pounds, Patzcuaro, Mexico native Carlos Molina (21-5-2, 6 KO's) is finally getting his shot at championship gold on September 14 after a decade slugging it out in the ring. Now making his home in Chicago, the 30-year-old Molina began making noise with his disputed draw against Erislandy Lara in 2011, and he has since won four of five bouts, defeating former world champions Kermit Cintron and Cory Spinks, with his only loss coming via controversial DQ against James Kirkland in March of 2012.
Mexico's Pablo Cesar "El Demoledor" Cano (26-3-1, 20 KO's), like countryman and headliner Canelo Alvarez, will have a nation in his corner when he steps between the ropes on September 14. Given the controversial nature of his recent decision losses to Paulie Malignaggi and Shane Mosley, the 23-year-old plans on giving the judges the night off by scoring a defining knockout of Theophane. A pro since 2006, Cano can do it all in the ring, and in his first Las Vegas fight since his classic 2011 battle with the legendary Erik Morales, he vows to put on a show.
A proud native of London, England, 32-year-old Ashley "Treasure" Theophane (33-5-1, 10 KO's) is a graduate of the School of Hard Knocks in the ring and is finally getting his chance to shine on the world stage. A former British junior welterweight champion, the talented Theophane owns victories over Delvin Rodriguez and DeMarcus Corley, and he gave current world champion Danny Garcia one of his toughest fights in 2010 before losing a split decision. Winner of two straight, Theophane is looking to prove that he was made for the bright lights of Las Vegas.

Juan Reyes vs. Jonathan Arellano Inland Empire Clash Highlights "New Blood" Friday, Aug. 23, 2013 Omega Products Outdoor Arena, Corona, CA

Thompson Boxing Promotions anticipates another stellar night of boxing with its "New Blood" series featuring quick-moving featherweights Juan Reyes (9-1-1, 1 KO) of Riverside, Calif. and Jonathan Arellano (13-2-1, 3 KOs) of Ontario, Calif. The 8-round bout is set for Friday, Aug. 23, from the Omega Products Outdoor Arena in Corona, Calif. Reyes, looking to make it six straight victories against the more experienced Arellano, will rely on his ringmanship to produce his tenth professional victory.

"This is a big step for me," said Reyes, referring to his first professional fight scheduled for eight rounds. "I like the idea of having my first ever chance to be on a Thompson Boxing main event, it provides me with a new challenge.  I'm excited to take the next step in my professional career."

The co-main event showcases the much heralded and undefeated middleweight Colombian prospect Alex Theran (14-0, 8 KOs) taking on Justin Williams (4-8-2, 2 KOs) of New Orleans, La., in an 8-round fight. Theran, like Reyes, is promoted by Thompson Boxing Promotions and is coming off a 6-round unanimous decision victory over Juan Carlos Rojas (5-6, 0 KOs) on Friday, July 26.

"I won every round on all three judges scorecards in my fight against Rojas, but that doesn't mean it was easy," Theran said. "He was strong and had a solid chin, which made him a tough out. I like having back-to-back fights because it keeps me sharp.  I am learning a lot here in California under trainer Danny Zamora and I love to stay busy.  I will be ready for whatever Williams brings to the ring."

Mares vs. Gonzalez; Saturday, August 24 at StubHub Center in Carson, Calif. The event is promoted by Golden Boy Promotions, sponsored by Corona and AT&T and will be televised live on SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING®

Mares vs. Gonzaleza 12-round fight for Mares' WBC Featherweight World Championship, will take place on Saturday, August 24 at StubHub Center in Carson, Calif.  The event is promoted by Golden Boy Promotions, sponsored by Corona and AT&T and will be televised live on SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING® beginning at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT.  Also featured will be a 12-round world championship showdown between WBC Super Bantamweight World Champion Victor Terrazas and former IBF Bantamweight World Champion Leo Santa Cruz.  SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING is available in Spanish using secondary audio programming (SAP).  Mares vs. Gonzalez is presented in association with Promociones Del Pueblo.  Preliminary fights will air on SHOWTIME EXTREME®.
The newest member of boxing's pound for pound fraternity, Hawaiian Gardens, California's Abner Mares (26-0-1, 14 KO's) earned his spot there the hard way, battling through adversity and some of the best fighters in the world over the last eight years.  A member of the 2004 Mexican Olympic team who originally hails from Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, Mares won his first world title in 2011 when he defeated Joseph Agbeko for the IBF Bantamweight World Championship.  Mares won the WBC Super Bantamweight World Championship against Eric Morel less than a year later and, in May of 2013, the 27-year-old knocked out Daniel Ponce De Leon, capturing the WBC Featherweight World Championship.  On August 24, he will look to add to his already stellar resume by defending his belt against Gonzalez.
A knockout puncher who has struck fear into the hearts of opponents for years, Mexico City's Jhonny Gonzalez (54-8, 46 KO's) is a fan favorite who has won world championships at bantamweight and featherweight while beating the likes of Mark JohnsonFernando MontielIrene Pacheco and Mauricio Pastrana.  Since moving to featherweight full-time in 2009, Gonzalez has gone 14-1 with 12 knockouts, with his only loss in the form of a technical decision to Ponce De Leon in September of last year.  The winner of two straight who most recently scored a fourth round technical knockout win over Akihiko Katagiri, the 31-year-old veteran plans on testing Mares' chin this August when he attempts to get the title which he lost to Ponce De Leon back.
Unbeaten in his last 11 bouts, Guadalajara's Victor "Vikingo" Terrazas (37-2-1, 21 KO's) is one of Mexico's most underrated fighters, but with a win over Santa Cruz this August, the world will know his name.  The owner of a 2011 win over Fernando Montiel, Terrazas won the WBC Super Bantamweight World Championship this past April by decisioning Cristian Mijares.  On August 24, he makes his first defense.

Boxing's latest action hero, 24-year-old Leo "Terremoto" Santa Cruz (24-0-1, 14 KO's), of Los Angeles, made quite the impression in his super bantamweight debut in May, stopping Alexander Munoz in five rounds.  It was a great start at 122 pounds for the former bantamweight king originally from Huetamo, Michoacan, Mexico who successfully defended the belt he captured in June 2012 at StubHub Center three times over the span of three months before seeking bigger game at super bantamweight.
