Azumah Nelson Foundation Charity Auction/Meet & Greet at World Famous Gleason's Gym -June 13th,2011
Azumah "The Professor" Nelson, former WBC world champion, put African boxing on the map KO after KO and became the only boxer from the continent of Africa to date to be inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame. Azumah Nelson will make his first appearance at New York's famous Gleason's Gym on June 13, 2011, from 6-9pm for a meet and greet charity auction, benefiting the Azumah Nelson Foundation's "Mentoring for a Brighter Future" building project in Akuse, Ghana- which marries sports & education. The Azumah Nelson Academy is being built on 50 acres of land acquired by Azumah Nelson to give back to the young people & future of Ghana, as he calls on the help of the global village to raise every child by mentoring for a brighter future.
Azumah Nelson holds his title of "The Professor" to heart, as he has made it his life's mission to educate the children of the black star nation of Ghana, West Africa. Azumah Nelson has dedicated all proceeds from his new documentary entitled Zoom Zoom -The Professor, which made its US debut at the National Geographic Headquarters in Washington DC on April 2, 2011, along with his book Azumah Nelson, The Professor: 12 rounds of Boxing & Life, to raising money for the Azumah Nelson Academy building project.
Azumah Nelson holds the high reverence of being dubbed the Mohammed Ali of Africa, a man who is bigger than life to most Africans and boxing fans throughout the world, whom he has inspired not only through his globally recognized accomplishments, but also through his compassion & dedication to giving back to his nation & to Africa as a whole. Today hip-hop artists from Africa name check him in their raps & young boxers from Ghana like Joshua Clottey, who has garnered international fame, fight in his name & shadow because he paved the way to respecting the strength, power & intelligence of the African fighter.EL Boxing Empress See you at the Fights and Thank You for your time.

Paulie Malignaggi speaks; The world according to Paulie
LAS VEGAS – World-class junior welterweight Paulie “The Magic Man” Malignaggi (25-1, 5 KOs) took some time off from his Las Vegas TRAINING CAMP to offer his views on subject ranging from his November 22nd showdown against Ricky Hatton to abdicating his IBF title and a lot in between.
His IBF Title
“I’m very disappointed to give up my title. I did my best to win it and was very proud to wear it. I’ve never heard of the same boxer being the mandatory twice within the same year. I worked hard to get that title, but I was committed to fighting Hatton. Me and Ricky are the top two 140-pounders and we’re fighting to see who is No. 1. We could have asked for an exception requiring the winner to fight Ngoudjo next, but neither of us (Malignaggi and Hatton) would agree, so we let the IBF title go and allowed two guys we’ve already beaten fight for it while we take care of our business. We did Ngoudjo and Urango a favor by not asking for the exception and making them wait another six months to fight. I wish them the best of luck. This is the biggest fight of my career, IBF title or no title. I’m going to show the world that Paulie Malignaggi is the No. 1 light welterweight in the world.”
Hatton’s New Trainer
“Floyd Mayweather, Sr. is putting himself in a tough situation and putting a lot of pressure on Hatton. You can’t teach dogs new tricks. He can teach him a few things in two months, but Hatton doesn’t have the talent – natural speed and defensive ability. Mayweather’s been opening his mouth and when I beat Hatton, everybody is going to say he shouldn’t have gotten rid of his trainer (Billy Graham) and blame Mayweather. When they lose it’s going to cost Mayweather a lot of jobs.”
Training Camp
“I trained in the Poconos for a while. In between the press conferences (Las Vegas and London) I worked at Gleason’s (in Brooklyn). We moved camp last week to Las Vegas for a lot of reasons. I wanted to get used to West Coast time and there are plenty of good fighters in Vegas for sparring. I spar against different styles of fighters to stay sharp. I started sparring in the Poconos and everything has been good.”
His Right Hand
“It’s fine. I’ve been hitting hard. Everybody’s going to find out how good my hand is, especially Ricky Hatton.”
Ricky Hatton
“I’m confident in myself with the experience I’ve gained. I don’t worry about Hatton, his personal life or his change in trainers. I concentrate on being the best Paulie Malignaggi as possible.”
The Fight
“I’m focused on Ricky Hatton, not (Oscar) De La Hoya or (Manny) Pacquiao (Hatton has talked about fighting the De La Hoya-Pacquiao winner after Malignaggi). It’s going to be a very frustrating night for Ricky Hatton. He’ll be catching a lot. I’ll prove that Paulie Malignaggi is the No. 1 140-pounder in the world.”

A Message From the Desk of; Keisher "Fire" McLeod- Wells, Support Team Free Form
Hello to all my supporters and fans,
This letter is to inform you that my team (Team Free Form) and I are putting together a fundraiser in June. This is to help us attend and compete in this year's upcoming nationals.
Keisher "Fire" McLeod- Wells
Unfortunately, women are not treated as an equal when it comes up to expenses for competitions and awards the way men are. We have to solely provide for ourselves when the men are 100% taken care of for the same competition events. So Team Free Form is holding it's 1st annual fundraiser to help with the cost of travel, food, lodging, etc. Part of the fundraiser will include a 50/50 raffle. For those who are not familiar with what a 50/50 raffle is, it go like this; all proceeds earned from the raffles sold, we'll give 1/2 of the profit to the winner. The more tickets you buy, the higher your odds will be in winning. Most 50/50 raffles do not offer a 2nd or 3rd place winner. But we are!, they will include great prizes as well. 20% of all proceeds will at the same time also goes to The Give A Kid A Dream (GAK) Charity. This is a program funded by Gleason's to provide free training to under-privilege kids. You can purchase these tickets when you see me with cash or send a money order or check by mail payable to: Gleason's Gym c/o Fire Wells 77 Front St.Bklyn, NY 11201
Please make all personal checks payable to Gleason's Gym (Not in my name please). Then I can either mail you the raffle tickets or hold them for you when we do the drawing at the event. Also keep in mind that you do not have to be present at the event to accept award. Just make sure I have your phone number and mailing address. We will also post a video on youtube of the fair drawing.
Thanks in advance for your support!
Sincerely, Keisher "Fire" McLeod- Wells Team Free Form
Here is an article posted on WBAN on Team Free Form and the Golden Gloves
Last Thursday and Friday at the 81st New York Golden Gloves, Team Free form walked away with 3 impressive performances and three Golden Gloves titles. The team was also awarded three Golden Gloves in 2005 and 2006.
This year they produced two new Champions in 138 lb., Rena Anawke and 145 lb. Dariana Casado.
Rena Anawke (Team Free Form)
This year's Golden Gloves tournament marks the team's 10th year anniversary and in the process they have produced 7 Female Golden Gloves Champions and between those Champs have amassed 15 New York Golden Gloves Championships.
Of course the Team has won their share of National Championships but it's the New York Golden Gloves that they are most fond of. Head Coach Lee Shabaka states: "The New York Golden Gloves is our baby.
Lee Shabaka
We have toured the country and have fought in many tournaments but it's the New York Golden Gloves and that trip to Madison Square Garden that we are most passionate about. Though I've trained many women to participant in this tournament I will never get use to the grandeur and excitement that this event presents. It's always a great and gratifying thing to take your fighters to the Garden."
Cara Castronuova (Team Free Form) and MC Goddess
Team Co-Captain and 4-time Golden Gloves Champion Fire Mcleod Wells says: "I'm so impressed by our team's accomplishments this year. We excelled as a team and as individuals. I'm also grateful of the expansion of the team in the past few years. With the addition of the new girls the team has produced more great talent and a diversity in styles which in turn will help in my own development.
Vanessa Grecco (Team Free Form)
Overall it's been a good year for Team Free form, the team is being pitched for a possible reality show, the History Channel just finished filming a documentary including the team in it and the team just produced two new Golden Gloves Champions to add to their list of accomplished fighters. It's all been worth it says Lee Shabaka, we started out with a three girl team back in 98, we now have 25 active members with about 15 of those being competitors. And we're only going to get better as the team matures and the sport of Women's Boxing grows. It all starts here at the amateur level and we plan to do our part in helping to bring Women's Boxing to the forefront."
