SecondsOut Radio: Vic Darchinyan, Jorge Arce, Bruce Silverglade On this week's edition of SecondsOut Radio, host Eddie Goldman previews two very different boxing shows coming up this week. On Saturday, February 7, the long-awaited showdown between two champion sluggers, the IBF, WBC, and WBA 115-pound champion, Vic Darchinyan (31-1-1, 25 KOs), and the WBA interim super flyweight champion and former WBC 108 and 112-pound and WBO 108-pound champion,Jorge Arce (51-4-1, 39 KOs), takes place at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif. This fight will be shown in the U.S. on Showtime. We had a chance to speak with both Vic Darchinyan and Jorge Arce on a media conference call about this highly-anticipated fight, which most people expect to be one of the most action-packed of the year. Also this coming week, on Tuesday, February 3, the first in a series of local shows featuring up-and-coming fighters and run by the world-famous Gleason's Gym (http://www.gleasonsgym.net/) will take place at the Masonic Temple in Brooklyn, New York. Most of the fights will be four-rounders, plus a main event featuring two top-level super flyweights, Rafael Concepcion (12-3-1, 8 KOs) against veteran Kermin Guardia (37-8, 21 KOs). This card marks the return to promoting aftera two-decade long absence by Bruce Silverglade, who owns Gleason'sGym. JAMES MOORE WILL OPEN ESPN 2 TELECAST ON WEDNESDAY, JUNE 4, 2008

Undefeated junior middleweight James Moore, 15-0 (10 KOS), a native of County Wicklow, Ireland, who fights out of Queens, New York, will open the telecast of ESPN 2’s Wednesday Night Fights on June 4, 2008.

The show, which is being promoted by Tommy Gallagher, will take place at the Tropicana Hotel in Atlantic City. Light heavyweight Yusaf Mack, 24-2-2 (15 KOS), of Philadelphia, is expected to headline the card.

Moore’s opponent for the eight round opener is Ishmail “The Arsenal” Arvin, 14-1-4 (6KOS), of Baltimore. Arvin has fought draws with two undefeated fighters: Jose Angel Rodriguez, who was 12-0, and Darnell Wilson, who was 2-0.

Moore, who in his last fight impressively beat veteran J.C. Candelo of Colombia by 10 round decision on March 15 at Madison Square Garden’s WaMu Theater, had initially planned on returning to Pennsylvania’s Pocono Mountains to train for this bout.

Instead he opted to travel to Italy for two weeks to help prepare IBF junior welterweight champion Paul “Magic Man” Malignaggi for his May 24 rematch against South African Lovemore N’dou in England.

“I can’t wait to open the ESPN show,” said Moore. “I’ve been waiting a long time to have a year like I plan on having this year. I hope to acquire a lot of new fans by giving an impressive performance.

“Paulie’s speed will help me prepare for anyone,” he continued. “Everything is falling into place. The victory against Candelo set the stage for the ESPN fight. Good things are happening, and preparing with a fighter like Paulie will only benefit me.”

Matchmaker Bruce Silverglade thought it was a good idea for Moore to work with Malignaggi. “These guys are not bosom buddies, but they’ve trained together at Gleason’s and will give each other great work. James went over there more as a friend than a sparring partner. I’m sure the sparring sessions will be very spirited.”

Malignaggi has great respect for Moore, and knew he was getting a handful when he invited him to Italy. “Don’t let his (boyish) looks fool you,” said Malignaggi. “He’s vicious in the ring. He’d knock his mother out if she was in the ring with him.”

UNDEFEATED JUNIOR MIDDLEWEIGHT JAMES MOORE WEIGHS HIS OPTIONS



Undefeated junior middleweight James Moore, 15-0 (10 KOS), a native of County Wicklow, Ireland, who fights out of Queens, New York, is itching for a fight. He wants to continue the momentum that began with his sensational 10 round decision victory over the much more experienced J.C. Candelo of Colombia in the main event of the March 15th pre-St. Patrick Day’s show at Madison Square Garden’s WaMu Theater that was called “A Fistful of Shamrocks.”

“I have been saying for years that I want big fights,” said the 30-year-old Moore, a veteran of 314 amateur bouts and the former captain of the Irish national amateur team.

“By beating Candelo I proved that I am ready to move to the next level. I don’t want any more easy fights. The only way I’m going to move my career forward is by fighting the best possible opponents.”

Early in the week of April 21, Moore agreed to a bout with Ronald Hearns, 18-0 (14 KOS), the son of the legendary Thomas “Hitman” Hearns who fights out of Detroit. That fight was being looked at as the opening bout of an HBO tripleheader in June.

When HBO told promoters they were looking for more of a New York-themed show, Moore’s matchmaker, Bruce Silverglade, said that Moore would be willing to fight Pawel Wolak, a hard-punching Polish-American with a 20-0 (14 KOS) record, or Andrey Tsurkan, a native of Ukraine who was 25-3 (16 KOS) going into an April 25 bout in the Bronx against Jesse Feliciano. Wolak and Tsurkan both fight out of New York.

“James is willing to fight anyone in the world,” said Silverglade. “I keep getting inquiries from ESPN 2, Showtime and HBO. James and his team are very confident in his abilities. We are looking for high-profile opponents. I can assure that James is not the roadblock in any negotiations for a big fight.”

During a meeting at Walker’s restaurant, which is located on the corner of North Moore and Varick steeets in the Tribeca section of Manhattan on April 22, Moore emphatically stated that he is not only eager, but extremely willing to take on any fellow undefeated prospect, especially if the fight is televised on a major network.

“I’ve been fighting a long time and realize it is time to make my move,” said Moore, who has postponed putting his 22 foot Grady White boat in the water for the season because of the possibility of going to camp to prepare for a major fistic challenge.

“I truly believe that this is going to be my year. I am very happy with the outcome of my fight with Candelo, and I would love to follow it up with a victory over someone like Hearns. If that fight does not get made, it’s not going to because of me. I’m ready, willing and eager to fight him.”
