The 8 round co-main event on this “Summer Super Brawl” fight card features Philadelphia’s super bantamweight “Pretty Boy” Coy Evans (10-1-1/2 ko’s). Mr. Evans has shown a lot of early promise and his skills have been steadily sharpened but finding quality opponents in that weight class will be a real challenge for matchmaker Nick Tiberi. There will also be an all time show stopping WIBC 3 minute -10 round Title Fight featuring Lisa Noel Garland (9-6-0/5 ko’s) of York, SC vs Kita Watkins (7-8-0/1 ko’s) of Camden, AR . This will surely be an amazing fight, so do not miss it!!

The exciting undercard will be filled with action packed fighters led by heavyweight Joey “The Polish Thunder” Dawejko (6-0-1/2 ko’s) vs. Edwin Ranquillo (2-1/1 ko’s). At 5’10 – 235 pounds, the 21 year old Mr. Dawejko presents big problems for any opponent and any ring looks small when he steps through the ropes, however do not be so quick to judge this fight. Even though it appears Mr. Ranquillo does not have the ring experience, he does have the experience of serving our country. This card also sees the return of light heavyweight Frankie “The Freight Train” Filippone (9-2-0/2 ko’s) vs Keandre Leatherwood (9-1-0/6 ko’s). On this edition of No Holds Barred, host Eddie Goldman speaks with Larry Hazzard, who for over two decades was the renowned commissioner of the New Jersey State Athletic Control Board, and is now a senior official at the IBF (International Boxing Federation), with the title Personal Assistant to the President and Chairman of Officials Education, Development and Supervision.

It seems that on virtually every televised boxing card these days there is at least one outrageous, ridiculous, or highly controversial ruling or decision made by the officials appointed by the various athletic commissions which regulate combat sports. Our discussion focuses on what to do about this mess.

There are many partial or major structural changes being proposed for boxing, especially in light of the ongoing meetings between the four major sanctioning bodies, and their meetings with the recently-formed Boxing Promoters Association, who all met Friday, April 16, in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The direction proposed by Larry Hazzard is straight-forward: privatize the control of boxing like other sports, and get government out of the sport.

In light of the history of the ruthless and reckless actions of boxing promoters, which is well-known, such a proposal will be difficult or even impossible for many to accept. But it needs to be discussed and considered, and that is what we do on this edition of No Holds Barred.

We start with a commentary on the significance of this appointment, and what it means for the sports of boxing and mixed martial arts in New York.

At a ceremony held Friday, July 25, at the Police Athletic League in Harlem, New York, officially announcing her appointment, we got comments from Melvina Lathan about her new job, boxing, and MMA. We have the statements both she and New York Governor David Paterson made at this ceremony. We also asked Governor David Paterson about his attitude to MMA coming to New York. And we got the very positive comments of Larry Hazzard, former head of the New Jersey State Athletic Control Board, and Randy Gordon, former head of the New York State Athletic Commission and now co-host of the show Fight Club on Sirius Satellite Radio, about the appointment of Melvina Lathan, and boxing and MMA.
