SALEM, New Hampshire- Back in 2006, Manchester welterweight Nate “The Future” Lamotte fought in New Hampshire’s first sanctioned pro mixed-martial-arts show and now his July 31st showdown against Doug “Flash” Gordon has been elevated to main event on American Steel Cagefighting’s (ASC) first professional mixed martial arts show, at the Icenter in Salem, New Hampshire.
Lamotte-Gordon, the original co-feature, due to an injury replaces the originally scheduled main event between Lance Everson and Woody Weatherby.
IFL veteran Lamotte (10-4-0) started studying Shaolin Kempo with Sensei John Burgess when he was eight years old. Nate, who wrestled in high school and college, was given his nickname, “The Future,” by a friend who told him “he was the future of the sport.”
Gordon, fighting out of New Castle, Delaware, has a Brazilian Jui-Jitsu blue belt. His most notable win was a third-round knockout of a fighter with the sport’s most recognizable last name, Gregor Grace, via a devastating kick to the head in their fight last year.
The new co-main event finds New York lightweight Pat Audinwood (7-0-0) putting his undefeated pro record on the line against former Cage Fury Fighting champion, “Mr. Big” Al Buck (6-7-0).
UFC pioneer Patrick Smith (16-13-0) makes his New England debut versus another UFC veteran, super heavyweight Kevin “The Shamnan” Jordan (11-8-0), in the Super Fight.
Also scheduled to brawl on the explosive 10-fight ASC card is middleweight Lamont Lister (6-7-0) vs. Randy Rowe (2-6-0), Worcester featherweight Evan Parker (1-0-0) vs. Albert Ricco in his pro debut, lightweight Damien “The Omen” Trites (2-3-0) vs. Joe Dechaves (3-1-0); lightweight Brian Danner (1-1-0) vs. Chris Foster (3-0-0), welterweight Carlos Nieves (3-6-0) vs. Ryan Schieding (3-1-0); Boston welterweight Nick Drummond (2-0-0) vs. Manchester’s pro debuting Adam McQuaid. Al Germain Sterling faces Ibrahiem Tody, of Allston (MA), in a 145-pound amateur match.

Joe Dwyer calls the NABF the Triple A of Boxing and vows to make meaningful fights
When the highly respected Joe Dwyer was named President of the NABF on June 5, he vowed to transform the organization into a powerhouse. On Friday, July 10, the organization will present its third title fight since he took office: a cruiserweight matchup between champion Matt Godfrey, 18-1 (10 KOS), of Providence, Rhode Island, and Shawn “The Sioux Warrior” Hawk, 18-0-1 (16 KOS), of Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
The fight will be held at The Arena in Philadelphia and televised on ESPN 2’s Friday Night Fights.
Dwyer, who describes the NABF as the “Triple A of Boxing,” says the organization’s champions have worked hard to get where they so they should be no more than a few steps away from a world title fight.
“The worst thing for a fighter is to be inactive, so I’m taking a very proactive role in helping make fights for deserving boxers,” said Dwyer. “Godfrey vs. Hawk is a really good, competitive fight and the winner will step up a few notches as a credible world title challenger.
“For many current or recent world champions – such as Kelly Pavlik, Lucien Bute, Chad Dawson and Andre Berto – the NABF title served as a springboard for them,” added Dwyer. “It is important for regional titles to be meaningful, so I am determined to work with fighters, managers, promoters and television people to bring about the best fights possible when an NABF title is on the line.”

Israeli Boxing Champion to Offer Free Maga & Boxing Clinic at JCC Metro West in West Orange and Jewish Enrichment Center in NYC
Israeli Cruiserweight Boxing Champion Ran “The Jewish Warrior” Nakash will be at the Leon & Toby Cooperman JCC on Wednesday, July 8, 7:00pm to offer a free boxing and Krav Maga Clinic and to promote his upcoming fight at Prudential Center in Newark this Saturday, July 11th. Children and teens ages five to seventeen are encouraged to participate in the clinic in which Ran will demonstrate and teach various boxing and self-defense maneuvers. Sovereign Nations Boxing and MMA Champions in National Spotlight
NEW TOWN, N.D.– Sovereign Nations Boxing Council (SNBC) cruiserweight champion Matt “Too Smooth” Godfrey defends his belt against Shawn “The Sioux Warrior” Hawk in a battle of full-blooded Native Americans on this week’s ESPN2 Friday Night Fights at The Arena in Philadelphia.
Godfrey (18-1, 10 KOs) is rated No., 6 by the World Boxing Council and No. 7 by the International Boxing Federation. He is also the North American Boxing Federation cruiserweight title-holder and rated No. 10 by The Ring magazine.
Sovereign Nations Mixed Martial Arts (SNMMA) heavyweight champion Chris Tuchscherer is also in the news having secured a fighting position in the coveted Ultimate Fighting Championships (UFC). Chris makes his UFC debut August 29 in “UFC 102: Couture vs. Nogueora” against Gabriel Gonzaga in Portland, Oregon.
SNBC and SNMMA links federally recognized tribes throughout the United States and Canada. Its mission is to develop, promote and help regulate professional boxing and mixed martial arts in a fair and professional manner by federally recognized tribes that are sovereign nations.
The 28-year-old Godfrey, who captured the first SNBC title belt last November via a unanimous 10-round decision against Edward Gutierrez at 4 Bears Casino, fights out of Providence, Rhode Island. Three of Matt’s most impressive performances as a pro have been knockouts of Emmanuel Nwodo, Felix Cora, Jr. and Shaun George, all broadcast live on ESPN FNF.
“This fight on ESPN is a good opportunity to let everybody watching on national television that Native Americans are involved in everything,” Godfrey explained. “Native Americans are not seen very often boxing on national television, but two of the best will be fighting each other in Friday night’s main event. Godfrey, a Wampanoag, puts his belts on the line against Hawk (18-0-1, 16 KOs), a Sioux from Crow Creek Reservation, South Dakota, which is the poorest Native American reservation in the United States. Sovereign Nations Mixed Martial Arts (SNMMA) heavyweight champion Chris Tuchscherer is also in the news having secured a fighting position in the coveted Ultimate Fighting Championships (UFC). Chris makes his UFC debut August 29 in “UFC 102: Couture vs. Nogueora” against Gabriel Gonzaga in Portland, Oregon.
SNBC and SNMMA links federally recognized tribes throughout the United States and Canada. Its mission is to develop, promote and help regulate professional boxing and mixed martial arts in a fair and professional manner by federally recognized tribes that are sovereign nations.
The 28-year-old Godfrey, who captured the first SNBC title belt last November via a unanimous 10-round decision against Edward Gutierrez at 4 Bears Casino, fights out of Providence, Rhode Island. Three of Matt’s most impressive performances as a pro have been knockouts of Emmanuel Nwodo, Felix Cora, Jr. and Shaun George, all broadcast live on ESPN FNF.

Hot Prospect “Hammerin’” Hank Lundy added to “Braggin’ Rights” Card July 17th show at Twin River Event Center, RI
PROVIDENCE– Unbeaten junior welterweight prospect “Hammerin” Hank Lundy has been added to the July 17th “Braggin’ Rights” Pro-Am boxing card, presented by Jimmy Burchfield’s Classic Entertainment and Sports, Inc. (CES), at the Twin River Event Center in Lincoln.
Philadelphia native Lundy (13-0-1) will be fighting in Rhode Island for the fourth time as a professional. He was rated No. 5 in the world as an amateur before turning pro, capturing several regional titles, as well as winning a silver medal at the 2005 National Golden Gloves Tournament. The electrifying, young fighter knocked out previously unbeaten Jason Cintron (10-0) on the road in April. “Hammerin’” Hank has also knocked off 7-0 Esteban Almarez by 4-round decision and fought 8-0 Darnell Jiles, Jr. to a 4-round draw in an exciting bout broadcasted on national television.
Lundy faces another former amateur star, Providence’s upset-minded Josh “Bam Bam” Beeman (4-3-3, 2 KOs), in the 6-round co-main event. Lundy-Beeman replaces the scheduled cruiserweight match between Rich Gingras and Tim Flamos that was canceled due to the former being ill and hospitalized.

Matt “Sharp Shooter” Remillard heading West Fighting Edel Ruiz Friday in Reno
MANCHESTER, Conn.– WBC Youth and USNBC featherweight champion Matt “Sharp Shooter” Remillard is a young man heading West to fight veteran Edel “Cuate” Ruiz this Friday night in Reno, Nevada.
The 23-year-old Remillard (17-0, 9 KOs), fighting out of Manchester, Connecticut, was originally supposed to fight Ruiz (32-22-4, 23 KOs) two months ago in Maryland. Ruiz became ill and was unable to fight that date, leading to a postponement of this interesting match-up between youth and experience that eventually landed in Reno.
“I’m excited about getting my career restarted,” Remillard said. “It’s only been a few months since I’ve fought, but (trainer) Paul (Cichon) have been working very hard in the gym, and we’re both a little anxious to showcase what I’ve learned. I’ve never been to Reno. I’m going from a venue that seats 2000 to close to 5000. It’s a big card and I’m really looking forward to fighting in front of a large crowd.”
Ruiz is a former WBO Latino, WBC CABOFE and WBC Continental Americas champion who has been in the ring against one present champion, Juan Manuel Lopes, as well as four former title holders (Paulie Ayala, Robert Guerrero, Jhonny Gonzalez and Joan Guzman, and two world title challengers (Jason Litzau and Fernando Beltran, Jr.).
“He’s had more than 50 fights, many against top fighters, and he’s still only 31,” Remillard noted. “The experience I’ll gain fighting him is exactly what I need at this stage of my career. I need to fight and beat a veteran like him to get to the next level where I want to be. Our weight class has so much talent. Ruiz is another step up the ladder. I’m looking for bigger fights but still take ‘em one at a time. Right now, this guy is in my way.
“I’m right on weight and will make 128 easy. I’ve been working in the ring with (his assistant trainer and former world cruiserweight contender) John Scully. He’s so strong and now that he’s retired and having fun, I think his reflexes are better than ever. I told him he could still beat most of the guys out there.”
Scully, however, won’t be in Remillard’s corner this weekend because “Iceman” is the head trainer for Matt Godfrey, who is fighting Shawn Hawk on this week’s ESPN Friday Night Fights show in Philadelphia. Former 2-time world champion James “Buddy” McGirt will be working Remillard’s corner with Cichon.
“This is a good fight for Matt,” Remillard’s manager Bret Hallenbeck added, “much more than a stay-busy fight. He’s in against a seasoned opponent in Ruiz, who has fought some of the top guys in the division. He’s definitely tougher than anybody Matt has fought to date. Every fight is a step forward for Matt and he’s learned something new each time out. He’s only 23 but getting closer and closer to a really big fight.”

KING KONG' & 'RAGING BULL'
Two of the hardest-hitting boxers in the world participated in a media conference call Tuesday to discuss their upcoming world title fight on Saturday, July 11, live on SHOWTIME at 9 p.m. ET/PT (delayed on the west coast) from the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Fla.
IBF Bantamweight champion Joseph “King Kong” Agbeko and two division world champion Vic “Raging Bull” Darchinyan both possess eye-popping knockout percentages. Agbeko (26-1, 22 KOs) of Accra, Ghana, now fighting out of Bronx, N.Y., has knocked out more than 81 percent of his opponents while Darchinyan (32-1, 26 KOs), of Sydney, Australia, by way of Armenia, is right behind him at 76 percent.
Darchinyan, an Aussie bomber who is a four-time world champion at flyweight and super flyweight, will leave his IBF, WBC and WBA titles at 115 pounds behind to move up to the 118-pound limit to face the dangerous Agbeko. If victorious, Darchinyan will become a three-division world champion.
The co-feature pits two top-10 ranked 135-pound contenders in the biggest fight of their lives when Antonio DeMarco (21-1-1, 15 KOs), of Tijuana, Mexico, takes on West African native Anges “Baby Face” Adjaho (25-1, 14 KOs) in a 10-round bout.
The event is promoted by Don King Productions in association with BankAtlantic Center. Agbeko vs. Darchinyan and DeMarco vs. Adjaho are co-promoted with Gary Shaw Productions, LLC.
The main event fighters and their promoters spoke on an international media conference call Tuesday. The following are highlights from the call:

“In boxing you have to fight the best to be the best and I just want Vic to know that this is the fight of my life. I know Vic Darchinyan picked to fight me because he thinks he can have his way with me but I just want him to know that this is the biggest mistake he has ever made in his career because he’s going to get the worst beating of his career.
“Why didn’t he talk like this when Nonito Donaire beat him? I wanted him to talk more and I want him to realize that I’m going to beat him more than Donaire beat him.
“I know I’m better than Vic Darchinyan. I know he can punch. I’m really, really ready for his punches. I know he’s never been on the receiving end of someone who punches like me.
“Vic is always talking about his power and about how he’s this and that but I’ve watched a couple of his fights and I never saw that power. He’s always fought guys that are afraid of him and he did what he wanted with them. But in this fight I’m going to do what I want to do and beat him the way I want.
“I’m going to let him do whatever he wants to do in this fight because I can do whatever he does better than him.

No where did he mention Nonito Donaire. So the answer to that is he has a fight in front of him on Saturday. We have to win that fight and then the question is if we win that fight do we want to stay at 118, move back down to 115 or do we take on (Rafael) Marquez or (Israel) Vazquez or someone of that ilk at 122. No where did he mention Nonito Donaire. So the answer to that is he has a fight in front of him on Saturday. We have to win that fight and then the question is if we win that fight do we want to stay at 118, move back down to 115 or do we take on (Rafael) Marquez or (Israel) Vazquez or someone of that ilk at 122. Ruiz jumps all over Arreola’s comments
LAS VEGAS– It didn’t take two-time WBA heavyweight champion John “The Quietman” Ruiz (43-8-1, 29 KOs) very long to respond to comments made by unbeaten heavyweight contender Chris Arreola and his promoter, Dan Goossen, at a press conference Tuesday in Los Angeles.
Arreola was quoted as saying, “There are a lot of old guys and former champs sitting around there that we need to take care of. Their time is up. They need to go.”
“This September,” Goossen added, “you’re going to see Chistobal fighting in California and you’re going to see him fighting a former world champion.”
If the WBA doesn’t rule that its heavyweight title-holder, Nicolai Valuev, immediately defend his title against the WBA’s mandatory challenger, Ruiz, “The Quietman” is ready to be the old guy, former world champion fighting Arreola in September.
“I’m willing to risk my WBA mandatory shot against Arreola, if he puts up his WBC mandatory,” Ruiz said from a Las Vegas gym where he’s been training. “What’s been taking him so long? I called him out in early May but he never said a word and his people never contacted mine. I don’t get it. He keeps complaining about not getting a title shot that he’s done nothing to deserve. Maybe he needs to push himself away from the dinner table and take a risk. I’m over-the-hill, huh? Well, I guess everybody thinks it should be a cake walk for him, but I’m not like his last opponent, who came out of retirement to fight him for the money.
“He wants to be the first Mexican to win the world heavyweight championship. Be a macho Mexican, Arreola. Walk the walk and fight the first and only Latino world heavyweight champ to really prove yourself. If it makes you feel better, I’ll retire for a few days, and wait for your call. Stop disrespecting me and talking trash unless you have the rocks to fight a real champion.”

Alexis Arguello was inarguably a great fighter. And, based on everything I’ve ever heard about him (and on one brief discussion with him), was an equally wonderful man. As we know, he came to a very bad end. He may have been the kind of guy who commits suicide (he had spoken about contemplating it.) But he may just as well have been murdered. He had many political enemies, and he’d been in the drug life for an extended period of time. Either way, it’s a shame that he’s dead.
But since his death, I’ve read a number of accounts of his career, and each has alluded to his first knockout loss to Aaron Pryor in a way that suggests that there was something tainted about the fight’s outcome. Each article referred to the “little black bottle” from which Pryor drank after the thirteenth round. Pryor knocked out Arguello in the fourteenth.
I’ve been around boxing for a long time, and I’ve never found or heard of an elixir that will give a tired fighter superhuman powers. Believe me, if there was one, I’d have known about it and my fighters would have used it. Aaron Pryor knocked out Alexis Arguello because he was a bigger, stronger, faster, and better fighter.
That doesn’t denigrate Arguello in any way. Aaron Pryor was one of the greatest natural fighters I’ve ever seen. With the exception of Sugar Ray Leonard, he was better than any of his contemporaries. And I’d argue that, at his best, he was Ray’s equal.
So as much as I admire Alexis Arguello, I hate to see part of his legacy being built falsely at the expense of another genuinely great fighter. It not only diminishes Pryor, it doesn’t do Arguello any good either. Alexis doesn’t need any fiction created on his behalf. Anyone who knows anything about boxing knows how good he was.

Chambers Gets an Old School Philly Education by Steve Kim of maxboxing.com
This 4th of July contest isn't the first title eliminator for Chambers on German soil. His bout versus Povetkin in January of 2008 was for the IBF version. In a bout that he controlled early, he inexplicably stopped fighting and was overtaken down the stretch by Povetkin.
“In the fight with Povetkin, Povetkin's eye was swollen, everything like this and Buddy McGirt is my dear friend and Buddy was trying to do the best he could. Buddy was brought in late in that. Nobody mentioned the eye. Certain buttons have to be pushed in an athlete," said Murray.
Chambers promises to not repeat the same mistake. He knows that Dimitrenko enjoys the home canvas advantage this weekend.
"It taught me one thing," Chambers says of lone professional defeat, "no matter how much you have something under control, especially in boxing, it's not to say you can't lose control. And for me, I've seen it. So when you get control, assume control, do not give up anything. Just because it seems like it's getting easy don't back down, don't pull off the gas. First of all, I'm NOT fighting at home, I'm not necessarily going to get a fair decision. I'm not going to say it's going to be a bad decision or anything like that, but you never know with the decisions.
“But first of all, I gotta win and win impressively anyway, just to get a draw. So that fight in itself really taught me what I really have to do and the pressure I gotta put on these guys."
Chambers, despite not being the biggest heavyweight out there, has a solid set of tools: fast hands, elusiveness and the ability to relax. But he can frustrate you at times with the way he fights. In his victory over Peter, he showed an alarming lack of urgency that made what could've been a decisive outcome into a fight he had to eke out. Chambers says that part of the reason he couldn't let his hands go as often as he wanted is because he jammed his right wrist.
But he conceded," I wasn't 100-percent happy, honestly, I felt I could've done more. I rocked him a few times, I really did some serious damage to him mentally, physically throughout the whole fight and I think I had complete control but in doing so I don't think I finished the fight the way I needed to. Maybe I could've finished it before it was supposed to be done - meaning stopping him early. I had all those opportunities, all these things could've been done but I didn't follow up and in that part I was a little disappointed. But with the victory, I was satisfied."
Perhaps one thing that also held him back was the fact that Chambers weighed in closer to 220-pounds than he did to 210.
"I'm not going to say all of that was it, the fact is, me being big or small, I can fight with anybody," he says. "But I think if I would've been smaller, lighter, I would've been able to get off more combinations, sharper shots."
Expect a much slimmer, trimmer Chambers this time around.
“I see something now at 209-pounds," says Murray, who gets excited at the mere thought of it. "I remember Holyfield at his best, 6'1, 212. When Ali was really jumping around, he was 210, 211. He slowed down as he got older and heavier." To Murray, a smaller Chambers is a better Chambers. “I've seen him heavy and I've seen him light. I like what I see lighter. In other words, if you go back to the great heavyweight fighters, champions: Jack Johnson, 6'1, 190-something pounds, maybe at 200. Joe Louis, 190-something pounds. Rocky Marciano, 195-pounds, Most of the great fighters were smaller guys. It goes back to football; your last line of defense is what? Defensive backs, they're stopping jokers and they weigh 190-195 pounds, they're not big guys."
Even in an era where world-class heavyweights look more like defensive ends than free safeties, Murray believes that less is more.
“What I'm saying is, speed is the thing that will get you through everything. Speed and talent and being able to break the defense and do all the things you can possibly do. The lighter Eddie is, the sharper he is."
Win this fight, and he gets a shot at Wladimir Klitschko.
“I gotta tell ya', we all know that Eddie's shown the ability to go out there and be a mesmerizing heavyweight. One that's fast, accurate, can take a shot, can give better than the other guy," said his promoter, Dan Goossen. "But what we've seen with that, is a lack of consistency throughout the fight. For some reason I believe that Rob Murray Sr. has got in his head and I don't know if you've seen this in some of the other interviews he's done, but he's never been so verbally aggressive in what he's going to do in a fight since we've been involved with him and I actually believe what he's saying now. That he believes and if he does, then I think we're in for a great performance and one that might shock a lot of people because I think Eddie Chambers has finally realized how good he is.
“But what he's gotta do is achieve that success."

Those of you that know me at all know that I'm pretty set in my ways. I take pride in being pretty old-fashioned. Well, some of you may want to sit down - I turned in my beloved old Nextel flip-phone for a Blackberry. Yup, I went from 1999 to about 2005.
First Kim Jong-Ill gets nuclear weapons, now I get a Blackberry. Don't let us Koreans have too many gadgets, we can get crazy. I'm actually taking pictures and videos with my new thing-a-ma-jig and sending them to people. I even put up my own screen saver. I still can't believe it. And get this, you can even browse the internet on this thing. Seriously, when did they come up with that?!? It's amazing. What will they think of next?
I mean, now I'm even thinking of replacing my abacus for a calculator (I’m thinking of going with a Texas-Instruments model) and perhaps even replacing my Vic20 computer. Is this Apple company reputable? You know, progress ain't such a bad thing.
Now, here's the kicker, I even got my own Twitter account (stevemaxboxing) and you won’t believe this, I actually tweeted (that's what the kids call it, right?) from my new thing-a-ma-berry. On this new fangled contraption I plan on giving out whatever boxing scoops and flurries that came up throughout the day.
As for my Walkman, sorry folks, that stays. I have waaaaay too many cassette tapes of Stevie B, Lisa Lisa, Public Enemy, RUN-DMC and Billy Ocean that I still listen to while working out.

FLOYD MAYWEATHER VS. JUAN MANUEL MARQUEZ RESCHEDULED FOR SEPTEMBER 19
LOS ANGELES- Sports fans around the world can breathe again as it was announced today that the highly anticipated 12-round welterweight showdown between
Floyd Mayweather and Juan Manuel Marquez has been officially rescheduled for September 19, after Mayweather, who suffered a rib injury while training for the originally scheduled July 18 date, received clearance from his doctor to participate on the new date.
Mayweather vs. Marquez: "Number One/Numero Uno," which will still take place at MGM Grand in Las Vegas and be televised live on HBO Pay-Per-View, will now take place on what on what is historically considered boxing's biggest weekend, and falling on the time-honored tradition of Mexican Independence Day.
"I am relieved to be cleared to fight as I was already looking forward to getting back in the ring," said Mayweather. "Trust me, September 19 is a great weekend for boxing, and all of my fans, of which there are many Mexicans too, can certainly hold on to their hats and sombreros when I get back in to the ring and show them what they have been missing these past 18 months. I will destroy Marquez and reclaim my rightful place as boxing's pound-for-pound king all in one night. Don't miss it."
Marquez, who has also agreed to fight on the new date, is excited about appearing yet again on the time-honored tradition of El Grito de Independence.
"I am happy that Mayweather has been cleared to fight and we can get down to business on September 19," said Marquez. "This weekend is not just an important weekend for boxing, but even more so for all of the Mexican and Mexican-American people I will be fighting for who will have a great reason to celebrate my win over Mayweather, which will be for all of the people and for the entire country of Mexico that night. I am sure of victory and si se puede- yes we can and yes we will!"
