He is coming off a third round stoppage defeat to Tor Hamer on May 15th.  The combined record of Smith’s last four opponents is 62-2.

BROADWAY BOXING BACK AT BB KING BLUES CLUB WEDNESDAY MAY 15‏

On Wednesday, May 15th, DiBella Entertainment returns to BB King Blues Club in NYC for the latest edition of its Broadway Boxing series with an exciting nine-bout card featuring a number of DBE's top up-and-coming prospects.

Highlighting the card will be fast-rising, undefeated middleweight, Lamar Russ(12-0, 7KO's), fellow undefeated middleweight prospect Delen Parsley (10-0, 3KO's) and heavyweigh t contender Tor Hamer (19-2, 12KO's).  All three bouts are scheduled for eight rounds.
Russ joined the DBE roster late in 2012 and has yet to disappoint.  He holds stoppage victories over previously undefeated prospects Jonathan Cepeda 12-0, 11KO's (TKO-1) and Jose Alonzo 13-0, 7KO's (TKO-4) and is coming off an eight-round unanimous decision over Jose Medina (17-12-1, 7KO's) in his most recent outing which took place on January 23, at BB King Blues Club.
The Brooklyn-native Parsley is coming off a sensational 2nd round TKO over Tyrone Selders in his most recent outing, which like Russ also took place on January 23.  Parsley dropped Selders with a picture perfect right hand right as the bell sounded to end round one. Parsley was all over Selders in the 2nd, giving him an absolute beating and causing Selders to quit on his stool. The bout on the 15thwill be Parsley's 5th appearance at BB King Blues Club since turning pro in 2009.

Looking to bounce back from his disappointing loss to undefeated heavyweight contender Vyacheslav Glazkov and regain the momentum he had from winning the Prizefighter Tournament in 2012 will be the New York City native Hamer.  Hamer fought Glazkov back in December of last year in a bout that was aired live on NBC.  Hamer got off to a good start in the fight, but was unable to continue after the fourth round, citing a chest and head cold that he had been battling just a week before the fight that was compromising his breathing. Hamer hopes to bounce back with an impressive victory and put himself back into contender status.
Additional bouts, including opponents for Russ, Parsley and Hamer will be announced shortly.
The card is promoted by DiBella Entertainment (DBE) and sponsored by Manfredi Auto Group, Newlio.com, and Everlast.  The event will be broadcast on SNY tape-delayed.  Doors open at 6:30 p.m. ET with the first bout scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.

TOR HAMER IN PRIZEFIGHTER TOURNAMENT‏

Three World title challengers are in the first four names announced for the Betfair Prizefighter International Heavyweights tournament on Wednesday June 20 at York Hall, Bethnal Green.

Kevin ‘Kingpin’ Johnson, Albert Sosnowski and Kali Meehan have all stepped in the ring to fight for World titles and that trio are joined by Kent’s Tom Dallas in the 25th edition of the eight man, one night tournament live on Sky Sports.

Johnson and Sosnowski have both faced Vitali Klitschko for the WBC belt, while Meehan fell the wrong side of a split decision to Lamon Brewster for the WBO strap.

Kingpin had been lined up for the first International Prizefighter tournament won by Mike Perez in May 2011 in a knockout night at the Alexandra Palace, but passport problems scuppered his involvement. Johnson plans to make up for his absence this time and is in good shape after winning the IBF Australasian title in Queensland in April with his 20th KO in 25 wins.

Tor will be participating in an 8-man Heavyweight tournament today in London, UK. Tor will be facing Marcelo Naciamento (16-3, 14 KOs) in his first bout.

The format of the tournament is eight fighters, who compete in four quarter-finals of 3 x 3 minute rounds followed by two semi-finals and one final all on the same night.

You can stream the fight live at 4pm EST from the following site: http://boxingguru.eu/

If anyone is interested, yesterday's weigh-in has been posted: http://youtu.be/KsCsloQAX5k

Three-time world super middleweight champion Carl Froch performed the draw at Sky Sports studios as the eight contenders for Wednesday night’s Prizefighter International Heavyweights at the York Hall, Bethnal Green, London met for the first time at the promo shoot.

“The Cobra” picked Poland’s Albert Sosnowski out of the hat first and pitted the former World title challenger against American Maurice Harris. There’s a potential all-USA semi-final number one as Kevin ‘Kingpin’ Johnson meets Moroccan Noureddine Meddoune in quarter-final two. Quarter-final three sees New Yorker Tor Hamer against Brazil’s Marcelo Luiz Nascimento with the winner facing the victor in the all-England clash between Tom Dallas and Tom Little in quarter-final four.

BROADWAY BOXING SERIES RETURNS MARCH 7 AT BB KINGS BLUES CLUB IN NYC

BROADWAY BOXING SERIES RETURNS MARCH 7 AT BB KINGS BLUES CLUB IN NYC

On Wednesday, March 7, DiBella Entertainment's (DBE)"Broadway Boxing" series returns to B.B. King Blues Club in New York City, with an exciting eight-bout card, headlined by an intriguing 10-round welterweight matchup between undefeated up-and-coming prospect Alex Perez (15-0, 9KO's) taking on his toughest opponent to date in longtime contender Francisco "El Gato" Figueroa (20-3-1, 13KO's).

DBE kicked off the 2012 season of "Broadway Boxing" before a sold-out crowd that on January 21 with a thrilling night of action-packed fights that had a little bit of everything, including knockouts, wars, and upsets. Now DBE looks to keep the momentum rolling in its ninth consecutive season of the popular boxing series by putting on what promises to be another exciting event headlined by the explosive crossroads matchup between Perez and Figueroa.

Perez last saw action as the opening bout of the January 21 card, scoring a vicious second-round TKO over Josh Sosa (10-1). Prior to that victory, Perez had been out of action for over seven months recovering from a hand injury. With the hand now completely healed, Perez will look to begin his climb up the ranks of the welterweight division, but he must first take care of business against the extremely dangerous Figueroa.

The Bronx-native Figueroa, a former New York State and NABF light welterweight champion, has been a staple of the New York boxing scene since his amateur days. Figueroa will be returning to the ring for the first time since November 2009, as he embarks on another run toward a world championship.

Also scheduled to see action on the card is Queens-native, four-time NY Golden Gloves champion Will Rosinsky (14-1, 8KO's), DBE prospects Tor Hamer (13-1, 9KO's) and Luis Rosa (9-0, 5KO's), as well as an eight-round junior middleweight showdown between undefeated up-and-coming prospects Delen "The Sniper" Parsley (6-0, 2KO's) and Boyd "Rainmaker" Melson (8-0, 4KO's). A complete list of the undercard will be announced shortly.

BROADWAY BOXING FEATURING JOELO TORRES RETURNS TO NYC ON AUGUST 26

DiBella Entertainment is bringing its signature series, Broadway Boxing, back to the place it was meant to be: under the bright lights of New York City. The popular series will return August 26th and BB Kings Blues Club & Grill in the heart of Times Square. The main event will feature unbeaten junior welterweight Joelo Torres (10-0-1, 6 KOs) of Guaynabo, Puerto Rico.

The undercard is already shaping up as former Olympian Argenis Mendez, unbeaten heavyweight Tor Hamer, and exciting youngsters Luis Del Valle and Eddie Irizarry are on tap to perform.

Tor Hamer

Luis Del Valle

Eddie Irizarry (r)

Promoter Lou DiBella is excited by what is in store for fight fans when Broadway Boxing returns to New York City, featuring some of the world’s best young talent.

“There’s no place like New York City for boxing, and there’s no place for boxing in New York City like BB Kings,” said DiBella. “It brings me great pleasure to bring the Broadway Boxing series back to Times Square, and I promise to deliver a night of hot, summer action.”

Since its inception, the mission of Broadway Boxing has been to bring the world’s most exciting young fighters to forefront. Joelo Torres certainly fits the bill. Not only does he boast an undefeated record, but his power has been evident as of late, with four of his last five wins coming by way of knockout.

Already a popular fighter in his native country, Torres now has his sights set on making a name for himself in the big city.

“This is my second home,” said Torres. “I’m always excited to come to New York, especially to fight on Broadway Boxing. I can’t wait for the bell to ring and show the fans what I’m made of.”

The co-feature will showcase Mendez (13-1, 8 KOs), who represented the Dominican Republic at the 2004 Olympic Games, and is one of the newest additions to the DiBella Entertainment stable. His slick, yet crowd pleasing style, has made him widely recognized as one fighter to keep an eye on in the years to come. In his last fight, Mendez returned home to the Dominican Republic to win a decision over Arturo Gomez.

Hamer (7-0, 6 KOs), fighting out of New York, NY, is already on the fast track to being boxing’s next sensation in the heavyweight division. A graduate of Penn State University and with an education in power, Hamer stole the show in his last fight - a brutal first round knockout of Marcus Dickerson.

Del Valle (5-0, 3 KOs), fighting out of Newburgh, NY, was one of the most accomplished amateurs in the world, and is no stranger to the Broadway Boxing audience. In his last fight Del Valle, whose amateur triumphs include first place finishes at the 2004 National Golden Gloves and the 2005 Under 19 National Amateur Championships, won a 4-round unanimous decision over Tommy Atencio in front of a packed crowd at BB Kings.

Irizarry (6-1, 2 KOs), fighting out of the Bronx, NY, is one of the most popular fighters in New York City due to his all action style. August 26th will mark the sixth time in his young career that Irizarry has fought in New York, but his first appearance on Broadway Boxing.

No Holds Barred: Ian Carpenter on One World Champion Video

On this edition of No Holds Barred, host Eddie Goldman speaks with our newest correspondent, Ian Carpenter (http://iancarpenter.com/).

The main subject of our discussion is the short video which has just been released called "One World Champion" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IXNd09YflhQ). This video was produced by Ian and Eddie, and focuses on the present absurd situation where there are four heavyweight boxing champions of the world. We discuss this video, the need for just one recognized heavyweight boxing champion of the world, the importance to all the combat sports of the martial art of boxing, and much more.

Also, No Holds Barred is available through iTunes at http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=150801513&s=143441.

The show is in MP3 format, so may take some time to download.

Make sure to check out my regular weekly boxing show SecondsOut Radio, at http://www.secondsout.com/radio/. On this week's edition of SecondsOut Radio, we begin by reviewing the two major title fights held Sunday morning, April 19, at the famed Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City in the Philippines. On that card, Nonito Donaire (21-1, 14 KOs) successfully defended his IBF flyweight title by dominating previously-unbeaten Raul Martinez (24-1, 14 KOs), knocking him down four times, and scoring a fourth-round TKO. The co-feature saw an aggressive Brian Viloria (25-2, 15 KOs) upset Ulises Solis (28-2, 20 KOs) with an 11th-round knockout to capture the IBF light flyweight title. This was the best a rejuvenated Viloria had looked in a long time, and this spirited fight, in which Solis came back in the middle rounds, could earn a Fight of the Year nomination. One fighter who is trying hard to gain recognition is 26-year old heavyweight Tor Hamer (5-0, 4 KOs). His next fight will be against an opponent to be named on the Andre Berto-Juan Urango undercard May 30 at the Hard Rock Live in Hollywood, Florida. We had a chance at a news conference this past week at the new Yankee Stadium to speak with Tor Hamer and his trainer, Shawn Raysor, about his career, why American heavyweights are no longer at the top of that division, why so many American heavyweights seem out of shape, and more. This coming Saturday, April 25, the unbeaten WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch (24-0, 19 KOs) of Nottingham, England, travels to America to defend his title against the former middleweight champion, Jermain Taylor (28-2-1, 17 KOs), of Little Rock, Arkansas. This fight will take place at the MGM Grand Theater at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Conn. It will be televised live in the U.S. on Showtime. SecondsOut Radio: Marquez-Diaz and John-Juarez Reviews, Shaun George,Travis Simms, Tor Hamer, Luis Del Valle, Lou DiBella

SecondsOut Radio: Marquez-Diaz and John-Juarez Reviews, Shaun George,Travis Simms, Tor Hamer, Luis Del Valle, Lou DiBella on Broadway Boxing On this week's edition of SecondsOut Radio, host Eddie Goldman beginsby reviewing the brilliant performance of lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez, who stopped Juan Diaz in the ninth round Saturday in Houston, Texas. We discuss this early Fight of the Year candidate, as well as the co-feature where featherweight champion Chris John of Indonesia was held to a controversial draw by Rocky Juarez of Houston. We also discuss the implications of putting such an important cardlike this not on pay-per-view or in a casino city, but on regular HBOin the U.S. and in a major city like Houston, and the likelihood ofsuch good sense continuing to be shown by the lords of boxing if andwhen the economy rebounds. Next, we review the Broadway Boxing card held Wednesday, Feb. 25, inNew York. We spoke with light heavyweight contender Shaun George, who needed only 1:26 of the first round to stop veteran Jaffa Ballogou, and make his case that he deserves a boost in the rankings and aneventual title shot. We spoke with heavyweight Tor Hamer andfeatherweight Luis Del Valle, two prospects who fought on this showand remained unbeaten. And we spoke with promoter Lou DiBella about his Broadway Boxing series and boxing in New York. In a special interview, we spoke with two-time former WBA 154-pound champion Travis Simms, who is now a free agent and, although he has a stellar record of 26-1 with 19 KOs, is actually finding it difficult to get fights. It is free to listen to or download SecondsOut Radio, but you mustregister to gain access to it. Just click here, http://www.secondsout.com/radio/,and listen, learn, and enjoy. GEORGE vs. BALLOGOU LAUNCHES DBE’s “BROADWAY BOXING” 2009, FEBURARY 25th

***NYC’s Premiere Boxing Series Returns with World-Rated Light Heavyweight Shaun George vs. Jaffa Ballogou, plus Undefeated Prospects Tor Hamer and Philip Jackson Benson, at BB King’s Blues Club***

New York- DiBella Entertainment’s Broadway Boxing series makes its anticipated 2009 debut, on Wednesday, February 25, with WBC # 6 rated light heavyweight and Brooklyn’s own Shaun George taking on former IBF Continental African cruiserweight titlist Jaffa “African Assassin” Ballogou, at the intimate BB King Blues Club & Grill, located in New York City’s Times Square.

Tor Hamer

In addition to the George-Ballogou ten-round light heavyweight main event, fans won’t want to miss 2008’s number-one rated amateur super heavyweight and undefeated pro, Tor Hamer, from Harlem and middleweight prospect Philip Jackson Benson from Brooklyn, New York.

Philip Jackson Benson

“This coming April marks the five-year anniversary of ‘Broadway Boxing’ and what a great way to start off 2009 then with a high-stakes light heavyweight main event between two world-class, New York-based fighters in Shaun George and Jaffa Ballogou. Shaun is one of boxing’s most avoided men…his ‘anyone...anytime...anywhere’ attitude is why he’s willing to risk his world rankings against Ballogou, a more experienced contender who can end every fight with one punch,” commented DBE president Lou DiBella.

A winner of four straight, Shaun George (17-2-2, 8 KOs) put the boxing world on notice this past May with a brilliant, one-sided TKO victory over former two-time heavyweight champion Chris Byrd, in a nationally televised bout seen on ESPN2. Since his unexpected dramatic triumph over Byrd, few fighters have shown interest in challenging Brooklyn’s George – currently rated WBC #6, IBF #10 and WBA #11 at 175 lbs.

Fighting out of New York City, Ballogou (46-7, 40 KOs) is a southpaw of Tongan descent, who has held the IBF Continental African 200 lbs. belt as well as the WBC International super middleweight title during a stellar 20 year professional career.

Registering victories on the Berto-Collazo undercard was the aforementioned Hamer (3-0, 3 KOs), a Penn State graduate and two-time NY Golden Gloves/Empire State Games champion; and 2008 US Olympian Sadam Ali (1-0, 1 KO), himself, a two-time NY Golden Gloves titlist, who stopped Ricky Thompson in one round on Jan. 17. Both Hamer and Ali will be in four round action at BB Kings’ on February 25.

2008 US Olympian Sadam Ali

Rounding out an outstanding “Broadway Boxing” undercard of up-and-coming local talent is middleweight Philip Jackson-Benson (1-0, 1 KO), a two-time NY Golden Gloves champion from Brooklyn; four-time NY Golden Gloves titlist and Queens own undefeated light heavyweight Will Rosinsky (4-0, 4 KOs); and making his pro debut at middleweight, is Denis Douglin, a 2008 National Golden Gloves champion from Morganville, NJ.

Will Rosinsky

Tickets for Broadway Boxing priced at $150 (ringside tables, ringside seats), $100 (floor tables, floor seats, stage seats), $55 (general admission) are currently on sale. They are available by calling DiBella Entertainment at (212) 947-2577. For more information on Broadway Boxing, please visit DiBella entertainment on the web at www.dbe1.com.

BB King Blues Club & Grill is located at B.B. King Blues Club & Grill, 237 West 42 Street in New York City.

WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP WELTERWEIGHT BOUT AT BEAU RIVAGE RESORT AND CASINO IN BILOXI, MS;WBC 147 Andre Berto-Luis Collazo on HBO’s Boxing After Dark

BILOXI, Miss.– DiBella Entertainment is starting 2009 in style with a great world championship matchup, featuring hard-charging WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto making his second title defense versus number-one rated challenger and former WBA world champion Luis Collazo, to be seen on HBO’s Boxing After Dark, on Saturday, January 17 at 9:45 p.m. ET/PT, from Beau Rivage Resort & Casino in Biloxi, Miss.

Andre Berto

With his dominant TKO victory over Miguel Angel Rodriguez this past June to claim the vacant WBC welterweight crown, Andre Berto (23-0, 19 KOs) established himself as one of boxings most feared champions. Just 25 years old, Winter Haven, Florida’s Berto has already defeated proven veterans such as Cosme Rivera, Michael Trabant and Steve Forbes. Berto will need to draw on all of this valuable experience when he takes on mandatory challenger Luis Collazo (29-3, 14 KOs). Crafty southpaw Collazo, from New York City, is poised to win his second world championship – having already reigned as WBA welterweight king.

“Berto-Collazo has all the makings of a spectacular match up. Andre’s punch volume and non-stop pressure combined with Collazo’s poise and big-fight pedigree, make this the first ‘can’t miss” fight of 2009. Let’s not forget Luis has already gone 24 competitive rounds with Ricky Hatton and Shane Mosley. This is a great opportunity for Andre to show the world the champion that he is,” said DBE president Lou DiBella.

"January 17 represents the hallmark of the Boxing After Dark franchise, featuring rising stars along with up and coming fighters and providing them a great showcase to demonstrate their talent,” said Luis Barragan, director of programming, HBO Sports. “Each fighter on the card is in a position to make a statement very early in 2009.”

In addition, fans in the live audience on January 17 at Beau Rivage Resort & Casino will get the opportunity to see local Light Heavyweight favorite Will McIntyre in an eight round bout, New York Heavyweight prospect Tor Hamer in a 4 round bout, undefeated Super Middleweight and top prospect Edwin Rodriguez from Worcester, MA in an eight round bout and Jonathan Nelson from Little Rock, Arkansas in a 6 round Super Middleweight bout.

Tor Hamer

“Beau Rivage is happy to be partnering with DiBella Entertainment and HBO Sports to bring world championship boxing back to Biloxi,” said George P. Corchis, Jr., president and chief operating officer of MGM MIRAGE’s Mississippi resorts, which includes Beau Rivage in Biloxi, and Gold Strike Casino Resort in Tunica. “The headliner of Andre Berto vs. Luis Collazo is a competitive match and the undercard bouts are bona fide prospects to watch.”

Doors open at 3 p.m. and preliminary bouts begin at 4 p.m. Ticket prices are $45, $100 and $150 plus tax and service charge and can be purchased at the Beau Rivage Box Office or by calling 888.566.7469. Beau Rivage room reservations can be made by calling 888.567.6667 or visiting www.beaurivage.com.

No Holds Barred: The Grappling Revival

No Holds Barred: The Grappling Revival

http://nhbnews.podOmatic.com/entry/2008-12-12T12_16_02-08_00

On this edition of No Holds Barred, host Eddie Goldman discusses an important development in the combat sports: the revival and resurgence of numerous important events in various styles of grappling.

As has been reported on the ADCC News (http://www.adcombat.com/), not only are plans moving forward for the 2009 Abu Dhabi Submission Wrestling World Championship, which will likely be held in late summer at a site to be determined, but there also has been an announcement that a new International Professional Jiu-Jitsu Federation (IPJJF) will start running events in 2009. The World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Cup will take place in April 2009, with trials in Brazil, the U.S., Canada, Japan, Europe, and Australia. More information on that will also be announced shortly.

In college wrestling in the U.S., a new all-time attendance record was set Saturday, December 6, when 15,955 fans jammed into Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City to see the top-ranked University of Iowa Hawkeyes defeat their intrastate rivals, the second-ranked Iowa State Cyclones, by a score of 20-15. That broke the old record of 15,646, set on Feb. 1, 2002, when Minnesota hosted Iowa at the Target Center in Minneapolis.

In the sport of sumo wrestling, a new professional company called the International Sumo League plans to run a tour of the U.S., starting Sunday, April 5, 2009, at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, Connecticut, and culminating with a planned championship tournament in Madison Square Garden Saturday, November 7, 2009. Organized by some of the same people who ran the World Sumo League in 2005 and 2006, they are in talks with CBS Sports about televising their shows.

Taken together, it is clear that there is a grappling revival going on, and that is what we discuss on this edition of No Holds Barred.

Also, No Holds Barred is available through iTunes at http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=150801513&s=143441.

The show is in MP3 format, so may take some time to download.

The No Holds Barred theme song is called "The Heist", by musician Ian Carpenter (http://iancarpenter.com/).

Make sure to check out my regular weekly boxing show SecondsOut Radio, at http://www.secondsout.com/radio/. On this week's edition of SecondsOut Radio, we begin by discussing how the one-sided beatdown administered by Manny Pacquiao on Oscar De La Hoya this past Saturday, December 6, was symptomatic of the continuing decline of American boxing. With this decisive win by the much smaller Pacquiao over De La Hoya, American boxing now has no real superstars. We next discuss a local New York card which resulted in several surprises. Of the 13 fights on Ring Promotions' "Holiday Hits" show held Thursday, December 4, at the Roseland Ballroom in New York, there were four upsets, including in both of the featured bouts. Right after the fights concluded, we spoke with our colleague Keisha Morrisey to discuss this show. We also spoke with three of the victorious fighters: light heavyweight Will Rosinsky (3-0, 3 KOs), heavyweight Tor Hamer (2-0, 2 KOs), and veteran heavyweight Marcellus Brown (26-17-1, 22 KOs), who won his main event bout with Nagy Aguilera (10-1, 6 KOs) by disqualification.
