‘The New Generation Boxing Series’ Launches Saturday Night Fights Return June 18 in Hartford

Bulldog Cartel Promotions launches its “The New Generation Boxing Series” Saturday night, June 18 at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford.

“We’re committed to bringing Saturday night pro boxing back to Connecticut and showcasing the pool of young talent here right at home,” promoter Craig Salamone said. “Our shows will feature old-fashioned boxers in entertaining, competitive fights for local bragging rights. These young guys need to fight in order to improve and a build fan base. Bulldog Cartel Promotions is going to give them that opportunity on a regular basis.”

The eight-round main event features a pair of dangerous cruiserweights sporting deceiving records, Joshua “Juice” Harris (7-4-1, 5 KOs) and Harvey “Candy Man” Jolly (11-17-1, 6 KOs). Harris, of Providence, registered a shocking first-round knockout of Alexis Mejias (10-1) two years ago, while Jolly did the same thing against previously undefeated Nicholas Iannuzzi (12-0), who recently lost a controversial decision to budding star Lateef Kayode.

The eight-round co-feature is an interesting match-up between a talented prospect, undefeated Hartford welterweight Javier “El Chino” Flores (5-0, 5 KOs), against 35-year-old veteran Shaka Moore (11-15-3, 2 KOs). Puerto Rica-native Flores is coming off of a sensational second-round knockout of Marcus Hall this past February. Moore, of Norwalk, won a four-round bout by technical decision versus Noel Garcia in April at the Connecticut Convention Center.

Another hot prospect, super middleweight Lamar Russ (7-0, 5 KOs) puts his perfect record on the line against TBA. Russ, now fighting out of Hartford, upset Haitian Olympian Elie Augustama by six-round decision in December.

Promising junior featherweight Luis Rosa, Jr. (6-0, 5 KOs), representing New Haven, meets TBA in a six-rounder. Also fighting on the undercard in four-round bouts are New Haven junior welterweight Carlos Hernandez (0-2) against Springfield’s (MA) Barrington Douse (0-1), along with three New Haven boxers making their pro debuts – lightweight Oscar Bonilla vs. TBA, junior featherweight Josh Crespo vs. Frankie Garriga and super middleweight Charles Foster vs. Lee Snow. Garriga and Snow will also be making their pro debuts.

Former world light middleweight champion Vincent “The Ambassador” Pettway will be working the corners of Jolley and Snow.

In the co-feature, middleweight Dominic Wade (11-0, 8 KOs) faces Juan Astorga (15-6-1, 10 KOs) in an eight round bout.

Omar Henry signs with Don King Promotions..Fights on June 25th in St. Louis.

Yea its official I'm with Don King now my first fight with him is June 25 on HBO!

Future Champion Omar Henry Signs With DKP

3 06 2011

The 24-year-old, light middleweight, from Chicago recently signed to Don King Productions. Henry is a rising superstar, with a title shot is his very near future. I had the pleasure of hanging out with Omar, and his personality is and character is more impressive than his skills in the ring. To have such a great starting record, he doesn’t carry that arrogance that most fighters usually have at that stage. He was very humble, and very excited about progressing his career. To start his career with Don King Productions, he will have his first DKP fight June 25, at the Family Arena, live on HBO.

This should let you know how big of a prospect Henry really is. Immediately upon signing with Don King, Don made one phone call and placed Omar on the Devon Alexander/Lucas Matthysse fight in St. Charles, MO. Usually, fighters have to wait months before they get their first fight, but Don sees something special in Omar Henry, and wants the World to notice it as well. He is currently training hard at the King Training Camp in Orwell, OH. This camp has been the secret ingredient in the success of Don King’s Fighters. While training at the camp, Omar should take the time to really understand the words written on the wall in the gym… “If you fail to prepare, you prepare to fail.”

If you want to show Omar Henry your support follow him on Twitter @OmarHenry.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Victor Ortiz on Sept. 17‏

FLOYD "MONEY"MAYWEATHER RETURNS TO FACE WELTERWEIGHT CHAMPION "VICIOUS" VICTOR ORTIZ IN SENSATIONAL WELTERWEIGHT SHOWDOWN AND BIGGEST NIGHT OF BOXING FOR 2011 The Biggest, The Brightest and The Best To Meet September 17

The wait is over and once again Floyd "Money" Mayweather delivers as the undefeated six-time world champion announced today via his Twitter account @floydmayweather that he will return to the ring on Saturday, September 17, to face the hard-hitting and explosive current WBC Welterweight World Champion "Vicious" Victor Ortiz in what is now the biggest international boxing event of 2011.

The announcement of the fight, which will take place on Mexican Independence Day weekend, widely considered boxing's biggest weekend, sends shock waves across the sports pages as there is no denying that the younger, stronger and current champion Ortiz poses an extremely credible threat to Mayweather, who returns to the ring after a 16-month hiatus. It is a highly competitive and very dangerous match-up that will give fans a chance to see the sport's biggest star against the sport's newest star in one ring on one very special night of boxing action.

"I am ready to return to the ring and give my fans a fantastic night of boxing by fighting the best out there and for me, that is Victor Ortiz," said Mayweather. "He is the current champion and an extremely talented fighter who showed amazing skills, and heart, in his last performance against Andre Berto. At this stage of my career, these are the challenges I look for, a young, strong, rising star looking to make his mark in boxing by beating me. Like the rest of my opponents, he is going to try to prove that he can beat me. I commend him for accepting the fight, but on September 17, Ortiz is just going to be another casualty, the 42nd one who tried and failed. Trust me, I will be ready."

"I respect Mayweather because he has been a champion for many years and I know he will be ready, but so will I," said Ortiz. "I'm a strong fighter and I have worked really hard to silence my critics. I'm a world champion for a reason and I am not going to let go of my title any time soon. This is going to be a great fight, but I will remain a world champion for many years to come."

Floyd Mayweather (41-0, 25 KO's) remains boxing's biggest attraction, wowing crowds and generating record pay-per-view numbers each time he steps into the ring. In his last ring appearance on May 1, 2010, Mayweather dismantled Sugar Shane Mosley in a lopsided unanimous decision victory. Mayweather is no stranger to fighting on Mexican Independence Day weekend either, as prior to his sensational win over Mosley, he took on Mexican boxing star Juan Manuel Marquez on September 19, 2009, beating his opponent in spectacular fashion. During his extraordinary career, he has amassed wins over world champions such as Diego Corrales, Jose Luis Castillo, Arturo Gatti, Zab Judah, Oscar de la Hoya and Ricky Hatton.

Victor Ortiz (29-2-2, 22 KO's) is on fire. He is riding a six-fight undefeated streak including his sensational win over Andre Berto on April 16 of this year. The hard-punching southpaw proved himself throughout their 12-round battle when he survived a knock down in the sixth round and came back to drop Berto at the end of the sixth round in one of the most exciting fights in boxing this year. Ortiz, who was already known as one of the most powerful young fighters in the sport but was questioned in the past for his desire, showed the world that his heart matches his hands of steel when faced with the best in boxing.

"When Floyd fights, everyone stops to watch and this is an exciting time for boxing as it always is when Floyd steps into the ring," said Leonard Ellerbe, CEO of Mayweather Promotions. "There is no better showman than Floyd and he backs up his legacy with amazing, one-of-a-kind skills. Victor Ortiz has shown us that he is a great fighter too and for the two of them to meet makes for a gigantic night for fans all over the world. It's always a thrill to see Floyd fight and it's even better when he faces the best out there such as a true champion like Ortiz. This is going to be a fight to remember. Sports fans have a lot to look forward to on September 17."

"There is no doubt that September 17 will again be this year's biggest night of boxing worldwide," said Richard Schaefer, CEO of Golden Boy Promotions. "When Floyd Mayweather fights, it is an event which brings fight fans, sports fans and the general public together to see this truly gifted athlete perform. Every year Floyd sets the bar and standard for most pay-per-view buys and this year will be no different. In Victor Ortiz, he is facing a young, strong and highly motivated world champion who knows that a win over the pound for pound champion will catapult him into superstardom. The stage is set and I can't wait for the showdown of the year."

Mayweather vs. Ortiz is promoted by Mayweather Promotions and Golden Boy Promotions. A nationwide press tour is being planned for the week of June 20 with additional details about it and the fight to be announced shortly.

EMMANUEL GONZALEZ; RISING PUERTO RICAN STAR TO FIGHT ON UNDERCARD OF BORICUA INVASION THIS FRIDAY IN NYC

Star Boxing's hard-hitting, undefeated Puerto Rican prospect, Emmanuel Gonzalez (8-0, 7KO's), coming off a first round TKO on May 5th, will be back in action this Friday night in New York City, two days before the city's famed Puerto Rican Day parade. Gonzalez will return to the scene where he made his pro debut in 2008; Roseland Ballroom; when he fights on the undercard of the Boricua Invasion card, which is being shown live on ESPN's "Friday Night Fights". The card features some of Puerto Rico's most promising up and coming prospects, including Kenny Galarza (14-1, 14KO's), Thomas Dulorme (11-0, 10KO's) and Jose Pedraza (2-0, 2KO's). Gonzalez's bout is presented by DiBella's Entertainment, Gary Shaw Productions, Universal Promotions, in association with Joe DeGuardia's Star Boxing.

"Emmanuel is one of the most exciting up and coming stars on our roster," stated Joe DeGuardia, CEO and President of Star Boxing, who recently signed Gonzalez to an exclusive promotional contract. "He has loads of talent and ability. We are very high on him, and what we believe he can become in the future. Fighting on this card, which features a number of other top Puerto Rican prospects, on the same weekend of the Puerto Rican Day parade, will give him great exposure to the Puerto Rican fan base that will be coming out to show their support for the show. We plan on keeping Emmanuel very busy for the rest of 2011, and anticipate him making some serious noise in 2012."

The 23-year-old super featherweight Gonzalez, the 2008 NY Golden Gloves 125 lb. open Champion, burst into the professional ranks in December of 2008, scoring a third round TKO over Jean Ramos. Gonzalez made his Star Boxing debut on May 5th at the first "Punchin at the Paradise" show of 2011 in the Bronx, scoring a first round TKO over Jacob Thorton.

Gonzalez is scheduled to take on North Carolina's Jason Rorie. The bout is scheduled for six rounds in the super featherweight division.

Undefeated Amanda Serrano Fights for NABF title vs Jennifer Scott, June 11th

Undefeated super featherweight Amanda “The Real Deal” Serrano fights at home for her first professional title Saturday night, June 11 at the historic Roseland Ballroom in New York City.

The 23-year-old Serrano (9-0-1, 5 KOs), a native of Puerto Rico who is now fighting out of Brooklyn, faces Jennifer Scott in an eight-round bout for the vacant North American Boxing Federation title.

“I’m the best female fighter in New York City and I’m going to prove it June 11th,” said the slick-boxing younger sister of former world lightweight contender, Cindy Serrano. “My sister fought for a couple of titles and I won the New York Golden Gloves, but this is my first title shot as a pro and I’m ready and prepared to win. My goal is to win the world title and then fight in Puerto Rico. (Amanda was born in Puerto Rico and moved to Brooklyn when she was one)

“This is my first fight in New York City as a professional boxer. I’m very excited to know that I’m going to have a lot of family, friends and fans there supporting me. I want them all to see how far I’ve progressed. It’s going to be a fun night.”

Serrano would have preferred to fight the former NABF champion, Maureen Shea, but she was stripped of the belt. “She has no heart,” Serrano blasted Shea. “She was offered a fight against me but turned it down and was stripped. Maybe if she has a heart transplant we can fight in the future. It would have been nice – Brooklyn vs. Bronx – if she took the fight.

“I want to be the face of women’s boxing. I can box and brawl. I want to be a role model for girls to look up to. My opponent for this fight doesn’t have a great record (2-3, 2 KOs) but she’s tough and coming to fight. She’s an undefeated MMA fighter, too. I never take anybody lightly. Look what happened to Maureen Shea. She was knocked out by a fighter with a 2-2 record. My last opponent (Ela Nunez) had never been knockout until I stopped her and I want to be the first to knockout Scott.”

Serrano also wants to be proudly displaying her new NABF title belt around her waist the day after her fight, hopefully, on a float in the New York City Puerto Rican Day Parade.

“No female fighter sacrifices like Amanda,” Boxing 360 Founder & CEO Mario Yagobi noted. “She’s an exciting fighter with a great future. Bob (Duffy, Boxing 360 Director of Boxing) worked very, very hard to make this title fight happen. We’d like to thank the NABF for sanctioning it. Amanda is working hard to be world champion. No woman dedicates herself to boxing like Amanda. Boxing is her life.”

Amanda is presently rated No. 4 by independent source WBAN, as well as No. 6 by the WIBA.

“Amanda’s main goal is to win a world title and this is her first step,” Duffy commented. “She’s fighting at home the night before the Puerto Rican Day parade. I want to thank the show’s promoters, Lou DiBella and Gary Shaw, for having this title fight on their card.”

Other members of Boxing 360’s stable include USBA heavyweight champion Maurice “Sugar Moe” Harris, WBC #3 super bantamweight Leon “Hurry Up” Moore, former IBF super middleweight champion Alejandro “Naco” Berrio, WBC Caribbean & NY State super middleweight champion Lennox “2 Sharpe” Allen, NY State champion welterweight Danny Sostre, Dominican lightweight champion Eudy “AK47” Bernardo, KO king Tyrone Brunson, Nick “Hands of Gold” Casal, middleweight prospect DonYil Livingston, Joshua “The Juice” Harris, Emad Ali, Mike Mollo, “King” David Estrada and Angel “Toro” Hernandez.

PHILADELPHIA MAYOR MICHAEL NUTTER TO HONOR BERNARD HOPKINS IN CELEBRATION OF HIS HISTORIC LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP WIN

Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter honored newly crowned WBC and Ring Magazine Light Heavyweight World Champion Bernard Hopkins today for his championship win over Jean Pascal which took place May 21.

The mayor presented Hopkins with a Liberty Bell replica and made a proclamation saluting Hopkins and acknowledging his history making accomplishment of becoming the oldest world champion in the history of boxing. Bernard Hopkins, WBC and Ring Magazine Light Heavyweight World Champion

"The 'Rocky' movies are an inspiration to the blue collar workers of this city. Rocky used what he had to make the best of it, which is what I had to do. I played jacks like they were aces and I made something out of nothing.

"Where we are standing right now, is where I train. It is where I started.

"I have run those steps [of the Philadelphia Museum of Art] for many years, even last month [in preparation for the Pascal fight].

"It means a great deal to me to be honored where I train. This is where I have come all of my life.

"I lost my first fight at the Blue Horizon in Philadelphia. I lost a four round fight and I didn't let that stop me from continuing on in my career.

"I invested in my life...people ask, 'What is your secret?' They are waiting for me to say 'I am that good,' but I am here because I invested in myself and made a determination not to get caught up in the high life of being a celebrity.

"You have to have good health to have a fighting chance. You have to treat yourself like a temple."

Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter

"Let's give it up for Bernard Hopkins, the new Light Heavyweight World Champion. He had some challenges as a teenager. He found himself on the wrong side of the law, but in prison, he found faith in himself and in boxing. This is the real reason why Bernard Hopkins is a champion.

"The heritage of great boxing in Philadelphia is proudly being carried on by Bernard Hopkins.

"Even more than these accomplishments, his life is a lesson to all of us. It is never too late to do something great. It is never too late to change your life.

"Philadelphia is a city of second chances, and we are proud to honor Bernard Hopkins."

Center City Park In Atlantic City, New Jersey. Future Hall of Famer and WBC and Ring Magazine Light Heavyweight World Champion Bernard Hopkins Attended the Ceremony
The long awaited statue of the late International Boxing Federation (IBF) Lightweight World Champion Leavander Johnson, created by world renowned sculptor and New Jersey native, Brian Hanlon, is now complete and unveiled during a ceremony at Center City Park in Atlantic City, New Jersey on June 4, 2011. The Park is located on Atlantic Avenue between North Carolina and South Carolina Avenues.

Johnson, an Atlantic City native son and hero, will be immortalized forever in the heart of his hometown where he will be an inspiration and a constant reminder that "You too can achieve your dream." The unveiling ceremony is open to the general public and residents of Atlantic City and surrounding communities are encouraged to attend the event.

About Leavander Johnson

Leavander Johnson (12/24/1969 - 9/22/2005) compiled a career record of 34-5-2 with 26 wins by way of knockout. Johnson was born and raised in Atlantic City and trained throughout his childhood and professional boxing career at the Atlantic City PAL under the watchful eye of his father Bill who continues to instruct the youths of today. Johnson first became champion by winning the IBO Lightweight title in 1995. After three previous attempts failed, Johnson finally captured the vacant IBF Lightweight title on June 17, 2005 with a 7th round TKO of Stefano Zoff in Milan, Italy. Three months later, on September 17, 2005 in Las Vegas, Johnson defended his title for the first time against Jesus Chavez in a fight that Johnson lost when it was stopped in the 11th round. Johnson later collapsed in the locker room and was rushed to the hospital where emergency surgery was performed in an attempt to correct a subdural hematoma. Tragically, his condition did not improve and Johnson passed away September 22, 2005 with his family by his side.

Sebastian Zbik vs. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.‏, Tonight June 4th at 10PM ET/PT

Sebastian Zbik vs. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.‏, Tonight June 4th at 10PM ET/PT

For Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and his team, Saturday's fight with WBC middleweight titlist Sebastian Zbik was eight years and 43 fights in the making.

First was the three-pronged process of acquiring professional seasoning, building his record and establishing his brand. The result was a glittering 42-0-1 (30 KO) mark, strikingly similar to the 43-0 (37 KO) record his father carried into his first major title fight against Mario Martinez in 1984.

Then there was the deft political maneuvering that removed lineal champion Sergio Martinez from the equation. Martinez, who beat Kelly Pavlik to win the WBC and WBO belts, was stripped and "elevated" to "super" champion and "diamond belt" king while Zbik -- the "interim" beltholder -- was given the "full" WBC strap and the "privilege" of meeting Chavez. The site was the final stroke: Instead of the champion defending before his home fans in Germany, he'll meet Chavez before a heavily Hispanic audience at the Staples Center. Chavez is a 9-5 favorite.

Will Chavez seize upon this nicely stacked deck or will Zbik overcome the kind of long odds a champion seldom has to face? Their respective CompuBox histories provide strategic options and since Zbik is the champion his blueprint will be presented first:

SHOWTIME Super Six World Boxing Classic Semifinal Press Conference: Carl Froch Vs. Glen Johnson

WBC Super Middleweight Champion Carl “The Cobra” Froch and former World Champion Glen “The Road Warrior” Johnson and their respective camps held their final press conference Wednesday at the Edison Ballroom in New York City to discuss their Super Six World Boxing Classic Semifinal at the Adrian Phillips Ballroom at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City on Saturday, June 4 and televised LIVE on SHOWTIME at 9 p.m. ET/PT (delayed on the west coast).

Both fighters were respectful to each other, but they are predicting radically different outcomes of Saturday’s highly anticipated fight.

Froch feels he will dominate every round, while Johnson and his team feel that Froch is in way over his head with a lighter, faster Glen Johnson.

The following are quote highlights made by all the speakers on Wednesday:

Glen Johnson

“We had a great training camp. Everything went well. We went through a lot of stuff we wanted to go through and we came out very successful.

“I have to thank SHOWTIME for considering me for the Super Six. When they heard the name Glen Johnson they could have said, ‘He’s an old guy and it might not go over very popularly,’ but they took a chance on me and I want to say thanks so much. I’m going to go out there and do everything to make you proud and not regret that decision.

“You have to respect a man who can go out there and become a two-time world champ. Every man does it their own way and he found a way. I give him respect.

At the end of the day, it’s a fight. I’m not about lip service or talk. That’s not what I do. I’m about boxing. I will wait for Saturday to finish the rest of the conversation.”

Carl Froch:

“Glen Johnson’s trainer is delusional. He’s not only not going to win the fight; he’s not going to win a round. I’m too young and fresh. From round one to 12, I will dominate.

“I’m WBC champ and everybody talks about my one loss, against Mikkel Kessler, and 80 percent of the people don’t acknowledge it was a loss. The fight could have gone either way.

“That’s all behind me now I’ve redeemed myself. I’m the first man to out-box and outclass the top KO specialist Arthur Abraham. Nobody had ever put a beating on him.

“I’m getting tired of hearing about how many big fights I’m fighting in a row. That’s why I’m here. I don’t want to fight bums.”

Galarza, Dulorme, Pedraza top Friday night; Del Valle, Gonzalez, Arroyo, Sanchez, and Bracero to see action on Saturday

Two of boxing’s top promoters have put together a tribute to the great Puerto Rican boxers of past and future in the only way they know how: by staging two spectacular boxing shows, back-to-back in the same venue, loaded with the best young talent the island nation has to offer on the precipice of the Puerto Rican Day Parade.

On June 10 and 11 the Roseland Ballroom in will be the headquarters for Boricua boxing pride as Gary Shaw Productions (“GSP”) and DiBella Entertainment (“DBE”) proudly present Boricua Invasion I and II. Boricua Invasion I will air live on ESPN2 Friday Night Fights, while Boricua Boxing II will be televised live on Showtime on ShoBox: The New Generation.

Both events will prominently feature members of Team Puerto Rico Boxing, the eight-man team of Puerto Rico’s future ring stars that GSP, DBE, Javier Bustillo’s Universal Promotions, and Leon Margules of Warriors Boxing have joined forces to assemble.

Boricua Invasion I will feature highlight-reel welterweight KO specialist Kenny “Battlestar” Galarza (14-1, 14 KOs), of Juana Diaz, PR, in the main event against fellow Puerto Rican contender, Irving Garcia (17-6-3, 8 KOs). Topping undercard are the unstoppable welterweight on everybody’s “one to watch” list, Thomas “Tormenta” Dulorme (11-0, 10 KOs) as he battles former world champion DeMarcus Corley (37-17-1, 22 KOs), and former Puerto Rican Olympian, the 21-year old sensation, Jose “El Dulce” Pedraza (2-0, 2 KOs) against an opponent to be named.

Special added attractions appearing on the undercard will be San Juan’s own Emanuel Gonzalez (9-7, 4 KOs) in a light heavyweight scrap, Puerto Rico-born women’s former world champion Melissa Hernandez (14-2-3, 5 KOs) of the Bronx, undefeated New Jersey welterweight southpaw Alex Perez (13-0, 7 KOs), Kansas heavyweight Steve Martin (0-1) and Dominican lightweight Jose Guzman (8-1, 5 KO).
