"RING KINGS: MAYWEATHER VS. COTTO" TELEVISED PAY-PER-VIEW CARD SET JESSIE VARGAS VS. ALFONSO GOMEZ & DEANDRE LATIMORE VS. CARLOS QUINTANA F

"RING KINGS: MAYWEATHER VS. COTTO" TELEVISED PAY-PER-VIEW CARD SET

JESSIE VARGAS VS. ALFONSO GOMEZ AND

DEANDRE LATIMORE VS. CARLOS QUINTANA

TO BE FEATURED ON MAY 5 MEGA-EVENT

The "Ring Kings: Mayweather vs. Cotto" pay-per-view card is set and some of the toughest competitors in boxing today will be featured when undefeated rising star Jessie Vargas faces-off against perennial contender Alfonso Gomez and, in the opening pay-per-view bout, exciting 154 lb. contender DeAndre "The Bull" Latimore takes on former World Champion Carlos "El Indio" Quintana. The two 10-round bouts will take place prior to the WBA Super Welterweight Championship between Floyd Mayweather and Miguel Cotto and the Canelo Alvarez vs. Sugar Shane Mosley WBC Super Welterweight title bout Saturday, May 5 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The event will be produced and distributed live by HBO Pay-Per-View® beginning at 9:00 p.m. ET/6:00 p.m. PT.

Twenty-two-year-old Las Vegas resident Jessie Vargas (18-0, 9 KO's) is one of boxing's fastest rising stars with notable wins over Arturo Morua, Walter Estrada and former World Champion Vivian Harris. Last September on the Mayweather vs. Ortiz card, Vargas proved that he is one of boxing's top contenders with an exciting 10-round decision victory over fellow contender Josesito Lopez. Eager to keep his momentum going, Vargas scored a near-shutout win over Lanardo Tyner in February and is now hoping to add Alfonso Gomez to his collection of high-profile wins.

As a member of the cast in the hit boxing reality series "The Contender," Alfonso Gomez (23-5-2, 12 KO's) became the fighter to beat as he defeated the show's top contenders, as well as other top-tier opponents such as Ben Tackie, Jesus Soto Karass and World Champions Arturo Gatti and Jose Luis Castillo. A two-time world title challenger who faced Miguel Cotto in 2008 and Canelo Alvarez in 2011, the 31-year-old from Guadalajara begins another quest for the title on May 5.

Twenty-six-year-old St. Louis-native DeAndre Latimore (23-3, 17 KO's) now resides in Las Vegas and the change of scenery has done wonders for the aptly nicknamed "Bull." As a former super welterweight title challenger who lost a highly controversial split decision to Cory Spinks in 2009, Latimore is looking to regain momentum and battle his way back into title contention. With three consecutive wins, including a memorable 10-round victory over Milton Nunez in February, he is closing in on another shot at 154-pound gold.

Moca, Puerto Rico's Carlos Quintana (28-3, 22 KO's) is a southpaw like the St. Louis native Latimore; however, "El Indio" is more matador than bull, with his excellent boxing skills, which led him to a world welterweight title win in 2008 over a then-unbeaten Paul Williams. With wins over top contenders including Joel Julio, Francisco Campos and Nurhan Suleymanoglu, the 35-year-old Quintana has won three of his last four bouts, most recently stopping Yoryi Estrella in nine rounds in February of 2011.

Latimore vs. Quintana is presented in association with DiBella Entertainment.

"Ring Kings: Mayweather vs. Cotto," a 12-round fight for Cotto's WBA Super Welterweight World Championship is promoted by Mayweather Promotions, Golden Boy Promotions and Miguel Cotto Promotions. Also featured will be Canelo Alvarez vs. Sugar Shane Mosley, a 12-round fight for Canelo's WBC Super Welterweight World Championship which is presented in association with Canelo Promotions and Sugar Shane Mosley Promotions. The mega event is sponsored by Corona, Hatfields & McCoys on HISTORY™, DeWalt Tools, AT&T, O'Reilly Auto Parts and Puebla-Cinco De Mayo and will take place Saturday, May 5 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas and will be produced and distributed live by HBO Pay-Per-View® beginning at 9:00 p.m. ET/6:00 p.m. PT.

STAR POWER: MAYWEATHER VS. ORTIZ TO BE SHOWN ON THE BIG SCREEN‏

FLOYD "MONEY" MAYWEATHER BATTLES "VICIOUS" VICTOR ORTIZ IN BOXING'S RETURN TO THE BIG SCREEN THIS SEPTEMBER (Photos By; Keisha Morrisey)

NCM Fathom, Mayweather Promotions and Golden Boy Promotions Bring Three Incredible Mexican Independence Day Weekend Title Bouts From Las Vegas and Los Angeles to More than 380 Select Movie Theaters Nationwide in High Definition

In a blockbuster night of boxing, undefeated six-time World Champion Floyd "Money" Mayweather will face-off against current WBC Welterweight World Champion "Vicious" Victor Ortiz in the big screen event, Star Power: Mayweather vs. Ortiz Fight Live on Saturday, September 17 at 9:00 p.m. Eastern / 6:00 p.m. Pacific. Broadcast in high definition from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas to more than 380 movie theaters nationwide, this sensational welterweight showdown will give fans a ringside seat to see boxing's biggest star against the sport's newest star in one ring. Also taking place on Mexican Independence Day Weekend, Star Power: Mayweather vs. Ortiz Fight Live will feature a second main event from STAPLES Center in Los Angeles with rising Mexican superstar Canelo Alvarez defending his WBC super welterweight championship title against former star of "The Contender," Alfonso Gomez. In an exciting under card bout, three-division World Champion and future Hall of Famer Erik "El Terrible" Morales will attempt to become the first Mexican to win titles in four weight divisions when he faces power punching Argentine Lucas Matthysse for the vacant WBC super lightweight championship from the MGM Grand.

Mayweather (41-0, 25 KO's) remains boxing's biggest attraction, wowing crowds and generating record pay-per-view numbers each time he steps into the ring. In his last ring appearance on May 1, 2010, Mayweather dismantled Sugar Shane Mosley in a lopsided unanimous decision victory. Mayweather is no stranger to fighting on Mexican Independence Day weekend, as prior to his sensational win over Mosley, he took on Mexican boxing star Juan Manuel Marquez on September 19, 2009, beating his opponent in spectacular fashion. During his extraordinary career, he has amassed wins over world champions such as Diego Corrales, Jose Luis Castillo, Arturo Gatti, Zab Judah, Oscar de la Hoya and Ricky Hatton.

"Watching the fight on the big screen in movie theaters across the country is a fantastic way to experience a mega-fight like Mayweather vs. Ortiz, Canelo vs. Gomez and Morales vs. Matthysse, all on Mexican Independence Day weekend," said Richard Schaefer, CEO Golden Boy Promotions. "It is great to work with NCM Fathom again to bring championship boxing to the big screen in an unparalleled level of entertainment."

Victor Ortiz
(29-2-2, 22 KO's) is on fire. He is riding a six-fight undefeated streak including his sensational title capturing win over Andre Berto on April 16, 2011. The hard-punching southpaw proved himself throughout their 12-round battle when he survived a knock down in the sixth round and came back to drop Berto at the end of the same round in one of the most exciting boxing fights this year. Ortiz, who was already known as one of the most powerful young fighters in the sport, but was questioned in the past for his desire, showed the world that his heart matches his hands of steel when faced with the best in boxing.

"Since boxing made its exciting return to movie theaters in 2009, Fathom has allowed fans to experience every punch and jab at their local movie theaters," said Dan Diamond, vice president of Fathom. "This big screen fight brings Mayweather back to the ring in what promises to be one of boxing's most memorable matches of 2011."

Already Mexico's brightest young star, 21-year-old Alvarez (37-0-1, 27 KO's) of Guadalajara is quickly becoming an international sensation with fans around the world taking noting of his power and prowess in the ring and his charm and charisma outside of the ring. Following wins over former World Champions Carlos Baldomir and Lovemore N'Dou in 2010, Alvarez kicked off 2011 with a March victory over Matthew Hatton that earned him the WBC super welterweight world championship. Three months later, Alvarez returned to Guadalajara for a homecoming title defense and victory over Ryan Rhodes that captivated a nation.

A fan favorite who was present in American living rooms every week when he competed on "The Contender" reality show, Alfonso Gomez (23-4-2, 12 KO's) has proven that he has what it takes to battle it out with the elite in the years since his stint on national television. The owner of wins over Arturo Gatti, Ben Tackie, and Jesse Brinkley, the 30-year old Los Angeles resident (who originally hails from Guadalajara) has also faced current WBA Super Welterweight World Champion Miguel Cotto and Peter Manfredo Jr., but he is currently showing the best form of his 10-year career thanks to a five-fight winning streak that includes victories over Jesus Soto Karass and Jose Luis Castillo.

A three-division world champion and future Hall of Famer, Erik "El Terrible" Morales (51-7, 35 KO's) ruled the boxing landscape for years, thrilling fans with his classic battles against Manny Pacquiao, Marco Antonio Barrera, Paulie Ayala, Wayne McCullough and In-Jin Chi. But when he returned from a nearly three-year layoff in 2010, many wondered if the Tijuana native still had what it took to compete with the elite. Those questions were answered loud and clear with a three fight winning streak in 2010 and a Fight of the Year candidate in April of 2011, when he went to war for 12 rounds with Marcos Maidana before losing a razor-thin majority decision. Now, the 34-year old warrior is back in the ring and back in Las Vegas to face the concussive punching Matthysse as he vies to become the only Mexican fighter in history to win world titles in four weight divisions.

One of boxing's hardest punchers, Lucas Matthysse (28-2, 26 KO's) of Trelew, Argentina has made former World Champions Zab "Super" Judah and Devon Alexander see stars in his last two fights, knocking each of them down, only to lose both fights by controversial split decisions. The 28-year-old's new role as the people's champion is a good one for the crowd-pleasing standout, who has been delivering stellar performances from the time he turned professional in 2004. A former WBO Latino and WBO Intercontinental champion who counts "Vicious" Vivian Harris, DeMarcus "Chop Chop" Corley and Rogelio Castaneda Jr. among his vanquished foes, Matthysse, who has won 93 percent of his fights by way of knockout, is amped up and ready to trade blows with one of the sport's modern greats, Erik Morales, on September 17.

MORALES VS. MATTHYSSE AND VARGAS VS. LOPEZ ADDED TO "STAR POWER" FIGHT CARD‏

ERIK MORALES VS. LUCAS MATTHYSSE AND JESSIE VARGAS VS. JOSESITO LOPEZ ADDED TO "STAR POWER: MAYWEATHER VS. ORTIZ" FIGHT CARD, OFFICIALLY MAKING SEPTEMBER 17 THE BIGGEST NIGHT IN THE BOXING UNIVERSE

"STAR POWER" LIVES UP TO ITS NAME AS SEPTEMBER 17 PAY-PER-VIEW EXTRAVAGANZA INCLUDES THREE TITLE FIGHTS FROM TWO SITES IN ONE NIGHT

The "STAR POWER: Mayweather vs. Ortiz" pay-per-view telecast is now complete with four star-studded fights from two sites all taking place Saturday, September 17 from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas and STAPLES Center in Los Angeles. Mayweather Promotions and Golden Boy Promotions announced today that Erik Morales vs. Lucas Matthysse and Jessie Vargas vs. Josesito Lopez have been added to the mega-event, which is being produced and distributed live by HBO Pay-Per-View®.

The out-of-this-world night of boxing will kick-off with a super lightweight bout featuring undefeated rising star Vargas in his HBO Pay-Per-View debut against hard-hitting Lopez, followed by the first of the night's three world title fights as Mexican boxing legend Morales will face power punching Argentine Matthysse for the WBC Super Lightweight World Championship. The pay-per-view telecast will then go live to STAPLES Center in Los Angeles with Mexican boxing phenom Canelo Alvarez taking on Alfonso Gomez for the WBC Super Welterweight World Championship, followed by the main event welterweight championship mega-fight, Floyd Mayweather vs. Victor Ortiz, live from Las Vegas.

Fans in attendance at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas will be able to see the Alvarez vs. Gomez fight live, while those in attendance at STAPLES Center in Los Angeles will see Mayweather vs. Ortiz live. Following the showing of Mayweather vs. Ortiz at STAPLES Center, fans in attendance will see two special post-fight concerts performed by Los Tucanes de Tijuana and El Gran Silencio.

"The addition of Morales vs. Matthysse and Vargas vs. Lopez to the September 17 fight card makes 'STAR POWER' without a doubt the biggest night of boxing in 2011," said Leonard Ellerbe, CEO of Mayweather Promotions. "Mayweather Promotions is very excited about Jessie Vargas' pay-per-view debut on such a huge event to really get his name out there and show the world what he can do."

"Now that we have a complete pay-per-view card, the stage is set for the world to witness a real supernova of boxing," said Richard Schaefer, CEO of Golden Boy Promotions. "Three title fights in one night is something that we are very proud to bring to boxing fans around the world. Each of these championship fights could stand alone as their own main event and fans will be able to experience them all in one night. Adding undefeated Jessie Vargas in his pay-per-view debut and the legendary Erik Morales, who is fighting to make history as the first Mexican boxing warrior to win world titles in four weight classes, really strengthens the entire 'STAR POWER' event."

But when he returned from a nearly three year layoff in 2010, many wondered if the Tijuana native still had what it took to compete with the elite.

"This fight is the chance of a lifetime," said Morales. "I have waited for this moment my entire career. To have the opportunity to win world titles in four weight divisions on Mexican Independence Day and on a night like this is a dream come true. I am going to train harder than ever to make the Mexican people proud and to be victorious on September 17."

"I cannot wait to get in the ring and fight Erik Morales," said Matthysse. "I will do anything and everything I can to walk away from this fight as a world champion. I will work harder because I don't want to pass up this magnificent opportunity."

Jessie Vargas (16-0, 9 KO's), who grew up in Los Angeles, now resides in Las Vegas and trains at the Mayweather Boxing Club with recently hired trainer Robert Alcazar, is coming off of an impressive second-round knockout win over veteran Walter Estrada on July 8. His extraordinary performance set off a national buzz among boxing writers and fans that the young prospect is on the fast track to boxing greatness. Appearing in the opening bout in his pay-per-view debut, Vargas has the chance of a lifetime to make his name and talent known around the world against a stiff test in Josesito Lopez.

"Floyd Mayweather and Mayweather Promotions have given me an amazing opportunity to fight on the biggest night in boxing this year," said Vargas. "On September 17, I know I will be ready to show the world that all of my hard work and preparation has led to this opportunity. I am so excited to be a part of this event and I look forward to beating Lopez and keeping my undefeated record."

Riverside, California's Josesito Lopez (29-3, 17 KO's) may only be 27-years-old, but he's old school when it comes to his approach to the sport of boxing. This attitude has led him to nearly 30 pro wins, with his only losses coming via narrow decisions. Currently riding a seven-fight winning streak, Lopez showed off his veteran savvy in his most recent victory in January, when he tarnished hot prospect Mike Dallas Jr.'s perfect record by scoring a seventh round knockout.

"I am very excited to be a part of this event and to show the world that I am a force to be reckoned with in the ring," said Lopez. "I haven't lost a fight in over three years and I don't plan on losing this one. Jessie Vargas might be undefeated now, but he won't be after September 17."

"STAR POWER" is a mega-event taking place on Saturday, Sept. 17 from two world-class cities with three world titles at stake. Floyd Mayweather and Victor Ortiz will face off in a 12-round fight for Ortiz's WBC Welterweight World Title from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nev. Canelo Alvarez and Alfonso Gomez will do battle in a 12-round fight for Alvarez's WBC Super Welterweight World Title from STAPLES Center in Los Angeles, Calif. CANELO ALVAREZ VS. ALFONSO GOMEZ PRESS TOUR QUOTES

CANELO ALVAREZ, WBC Super Welterweight World Champion (37-0-1, 27 KO's)

"The only thing I want to say is I will prepare 100 percent for this fight and not take him [Gomez] lightly.

"I don't like to talk too much, so I'll keep it short. Everyone here knows the Mexican saying 'a dog that barks, does not bite.' On September 17, Alfonso Gomez will know who Canelo is."

"I do my talking with my fists in the ring because I am a man, not a clown. I'm going to show this kid who Canelo is.

ALFONSO GOMEZ, WBC #6 Rated Super Welterweight Contender (23-4-2, 12 KO's)

"I am going to ruin all of their [Golden Boy Promotions' and Canelo's] plans. I am going to unleash this beast that is within me.

"From the first second I heard about this fight, I have been in the gym. This road I have been on has been too hard to take anything for granted at this point.

"I plan to go in and die in the ring to win this fight. I'm ready to become world champion. This is my time. This opportunity is mine and I'm going to take it.

"Houston, he [Canelo] has a problem and his name is Alfonso Gomez.

"On September 17, everyone will know Alfonso Gomez as the world champion.

"I know Canelo trains hard and he is not a champion for nothing, but I have experience and I will be the champion of the world.

"Canelo, I know what I said yesterday [in Los Angeles] hurt you, but my punches will hurt more."

"STAR POWER LOS ANGELES: Alvarez vs. Gomez" is promoted by Mayweather Promotions and Golden Boy Promotions in association with Canelo Promotions, and sponsored by Cerveza Tecate, DeWALT Tools and AT&T. "This is a historic and unprecedented night for boxing and Golden Boy Promotions as we showcase the extraordinary talents of Mayweather, Ortiz, Alvarez and Gomez from two iconic and world-renowned venues in STAPLES Center in Los Angeles, the capitol of sports and entertainment and MGM Grand in Las Vegas, truly the boxing mega-center of the world," said Richard Schaefer, CEO Golden Boy Promotions. Already Mexico's brightest young star, 21-year-old Canelo Alvarez (37-0-1, 27 KO's) of Guadalajara is quickly becoming an international sensation with fans around the world taking noting of his power and prowess in the ring and his charm and charisma outside of the ring. With his American fan base growing at a meteoric pace, Alvarez will hold court in the City of Angels as he defends his title from STAPLES Center and fights for the Mexican people against ultra-tough Alfonso Gomez.

"I'm happy to come back to fight in Los Angeles at STAPLES Center for another Mexican Independence Day weekend," said Alvarez. "Alfonso Gomez is a good fighter and also from Guadalajara, Mexico. I hope the fight will be explosive because that is what the fans will be looking for between two Mexican warriors like us, but I feel confident I am going to win the fight."

Now, he prepares for his second world title shot as he takes on Canelo Alvarez on September 17.

"Canelo's popularity is great for him and for boxing," said Gomez. "I know Canelo's team thinks I'm just another notch on his belt, but it's not the first time a popular fighter made the same mistake. I've fought and beaten much better competition and I'm coming to win the world title. Canelo and I come from the same place and we are both Mexican warriors. I heard there's another fight happening in Las Vegas on September 17, but as far as I'm concerned, the best fight on that day will be at STAPLES Center. I can think of no better way to celebrate Mexican Independence Day weekend...Viva Mexico!"

CANELO ALVAREZ VS. ALFONSO GOMEZ IS ADDED TO CREATE TWO-SITE, STAR-STUDDED SEPTEMBER 17 BOXING EXTRAVAGANZA PRESENTED LIVE BY HBO PAY-PER-VIEW®

"STAR POWER: Mayweather vs. Ortiz" just got propelled into another galaxy, as it was announced today that rising Mexican superstar Canelo Alvarez will defend his WBC super welterweight championship against Alfonso Gomez on the televised undercard of the September 17 pay-per-view extravaganza featuring the WBC welterweight world championship mega-fight between Floyd Mayweather and Victor Ortiz.

Making this announcement more significant and unique is the fact that Alvarez and Gomez will face each other at STAPLES Center in Los Angeles, while Mayweather and Ortiz will battle at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, creating a mega-event from two world-class cities.

Fans in attendance at each arena will be able to see the fight live from the other arena, making this a first-time split-site boxing experience taking place on Mexican Independence Day boxing weekend.

Both bouts will be will be produced and distributed live by HBO Pay-Per-View beginning at 9:00 p.m. ET/6:00 p.m. PT.

Following the showing of Mayweather vs. Ortiz at STAPLES Center, fans in attendance will see two special post-fight concerts performed by Los Tucanes de Tijuana and El Gran Silencio.

"'STAR POWER' is living up to its name as a mega-event with the addition of Canelo Alvarez vs. Alfonso Gomez," said Leonard Ellerbe, CEO Mayweather Promotions. "To have this event emanate from two separate locations like STAPLES Center and MGM Grand Garden Arena is a testament to the size and magnitude of the event and what it will deliver to the fans in the arenas and those watching at home on pay-per-view. Floyd is absolutely thrilled that Alvarez vs. Gomez will be a part of this show from Los Angeles."

"This show is now even more loaded with stars, and to have Alvarez vs. Gomez join the magnificent boxing match-up of the year between Floyd Mayweather and Victor Ortiz is exactly why we named the fight 'STAR POWER,' which is expected to set attendance and viewership records in one night."

"September 17 at STAPLES Center will be a night to remember for boxing fans in Los Angeles as it will mark the first time the arena will host a boxing match, a pay-per-view viewing and a post-fight concert all on the same day," Lee Zeidman, STAPLES Center General Manager. "We are looking forward to what will no doubt be an incredible action-packed night of boxing and live entertainment."

"The MGM Resorts family is very excited to welcome the return of Floyd Mayweather to the MGM Grand on September 17," said Richard Sturm, president of Sports & Entertainment for MGM Resorts International. "This championship event marks Mayweather's first fight at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in more than 15 months and continues our tradition as the leader in the sports and entertainment industry."

"With the anticipation and star power of Mayweather-Ortiz from MGM Grand in Las Vegas, the addition of Alvarez vs. Gomez live from STAPLES Center in Los Angeles and the celebration of Mexican Independence Day, viewers are in for a fantastic night of boxing on September 17," said Mark Taffet of HBO Pay-Per-View.

Already Mexico's brightest young star, 21-year-old Canelo Alvarez (37-0-1, 27 KO's) of Guadalajara is quickly becoming an international sensation with fans around the world taking noting of his power and prowess in the ring and his charm and charisma outside of the ring.

The 12-round mega-fight, which will be contested for Ortiz's WBC Welterweight World Championship, will take place Saturday, Sept. 17 at MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nev.
