The oldest fighter in boxing history to win a world title, Bernard "The Executioner" Hopkins, and former World Champion "Bad" Chad Dawson will meet again to settle their heated feud following their October 2011 bout, which was originally scored as a TKO win for Dawson, but later ruled a no decision by the California State Athletic Commission. The two are ready to resume their high-stakes rivalryon Saturday, April 28 at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The 12 round bout for Hopkins' WBC and Ring Magazine light heavyweight world championships will be televised live on HBO World Championship Boxing beginning at 10:15 p.m. ET/7:15 p.m. PT.

"Chad Dawson can say whatever he wants, but I am not going to trash talk this one," said Hopkins. "Everyone knows what I am capable of in the ring. They have seen it over 50 times before in the last 20 plus years. I will say that I am really happy that this is on HBO so that all of my fans from across the country can see me continue this unprecedented path. I absolutely want to prove that I can beat Chad Dawson, another guy that is almost two decades younger than me and I am confident I will on April 28."

Pacquiao (48-3-2, 36 KOs) secured his claim as the 2008 Fighter of the Year, a year reminiscent of what Hall of Fame fighter Henry Armstrong did in 1937-1938, winning three fights in three different weight divisions, two of which were world titles. Armstrong is the only man to hold three world championships simultaneously, capturing world titles at featherweight, welterweight and lightweight (in that order) during a nine-month span between November 1937 and August 1938. Pacquiao, officially proclaimed a National Treasure by the Philippines, captured the WBC World Super Featherweight title last March by defeating Juan Manuel Marquez and the WBC World Lightweight title in June by knocking out defending champion David Diaz. He completed his personal trifecta by stopping Oscar de la Hoya in a welterweight battle on December 6. Owner of victories over world champions Kostya Tszyu, Vince Phillips, Paulie Malignaggi, Luis Collazo, Jose Luis Castillo, Juan Urango and Carlos Maussa, Hatton is a two division world champion. He fell short of the pound-for-pound best fighter title and world welterweight championships in his 2007 super-fight against Floyd Mayweather. However, the 30-year-old bounced back impressively at his natural weight of 140 pounds last May when he scored a near shutout 12-round unanimous decision over Juan Lazcano. His most recent fight was a scintillating shutout performance against world champion Malignaggi last November, ending with an 11th round TKO for "The Hitman". Hatton was honored as the 2005 Fighter of the Year by Ring Magazine and the Boxing Writers Association of America.

ALEX VALDEZ LEADS NEW CHARGE OF FUTURE CHAMPIONS AT ESPINOZA BOXING CLUB

LOS ANGELES- With super bantamweight Alex Valdez’s big win over Anytei Laryea in Chicago broadcast as the main event on SOLO BOXEO on June 20th, Los Angles based Espinoza Boxing Club continued it’s progress towards producing future world champions such as Junior Featherweight King Israel “EL MAGNIFICO” Vazquez and recently retired former bantamweight champion Martin "EL GALLITO" Castillo.

Said Frank Espinoza, President of Espinoza Boxing Club, “Since we started in 1991 our goal was to work with the finest prospects in boxing and build them into world champions. We’ve had success with Israel and Martin, and now it looks like Alex Valdez is on his way to a title shot within the next twelve months and we’re working with a real solid crop of kids that we’re excited about.

The 24 year old Alex Valdez has worked his record to 21-2-1 with fifteen knockouts following his win over Laryea. He is currently world ranked #2 by the WBC, #5 by the WBO, #10 by the IBF and #15 by the WBA. He is undefeated in his last seventeen bouts.

On June 27th, highly regarded lightweight prospect Luis Ramos Jr. improved to a perfect 5-0 with three knockouts with a devastating first round knockout of Noe Jimenez at the Doubletree Hotel in Ontario, California. Ramos will next battle on July 25th at the Sycuan Resort and Casino in El Cajon, California on an ESPN2 televised card.

Flyweight Manny “Sauvecito” Roman, despite being only 20 years old, has quickly moved into the contender category, winning his first ten round bout over Sergio Espinoza on April 7th. The win moved his record to 13-0-1 with five knockouts.

Los Mochis, Mexico native Jesus “Pollo” Hernandez moved to 6-0 (1KO) on April 7th as the lightweight knocked out the similarly named Jesus Hernandes in the fourth round. Hernandez will return to action on July 11th at the Quiet Cannon Country Club in Montebello, California.

Veteran super bantamweight Julio ‘LA SOMBRA” Zarate, 26-4-1 (16KO’s), riding a five bout winning streak, heads to South Africa where he will face Jeffrey Mathebula on August 29th in an IBF Title Eliminator. Zarate is currently world ranked #3 by the IBF and #6 by the WBA.

Super featherweight prospect Carlos Molina improved his record to 3-0 with a four round decision win over Odilon Rivera on June 19th in Irvine, California. Molina is also scheduled to return to the ring on July 30th at the Sycuan Resort and Casino in El Cajon, California on the ESPN2 televised card.

Recently signed to the Espinoza Boxing Club stable, super featherweight Abraham Lopez raised his record to 2-0 with a first round stoppage of veteran Tomas Bernal on May 2nd. Lopez will return on July 25th at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas on July 25th on an SOLO BOXEO televised card.

LAS VEGAS– Former two-time WBA heavyweight champion John “The Quietman” Ruiz has announced that he’s prepared to replace WBA heavyweight champion Ruslan Chagaev to fight another former WBA title-holder, Nikolay Valuev, for the WBA belt.

Chagaev pulled out of his scheduled mandatory defense against Valuev in May, reportedly due to a cold that forced him to break training, but Ruslan hasn’t made his initial mandatory defense since capturing the WBA belt on April 14, 2007 via a 12-round majority decision versus Valuev. His only title defense was a voluntary fight this past January in a 12-round decision against Matt Skelton. WBA champions are required to make a mandatory defense within a year of winning the belt and/or last mandatory defense. Chagaev is officially over the deadline and seeking further delays.

“We have to respect mandatory defenses and if Chagaev isn’t willing or able to fulfill his obligation as champion,” WBA No. 2 rated Ruiz said, “he should step aside so the WBA can move forward instead of standing still. There’s so much speculation about Chagaev. First there was Hepatitis B and now another viral infection – it must have moved from his intestines to his throat – and nobody really knows when or if he’ll be able to fight again. We will be filing a letter of petition with the WBA to strip Chagaev and order a fight between me and Valuev for the WBA title.”

Ruiz is also rated No. 3 by the WBC, No. 6 by the IBF, No. 10 by The Ring magazine, and No. 12 by the WBO.

“The heavyweight division drives boxing,” Ruiz added. “Fans are waiting for things to explode, but it seems like the heavyweight champions are holding the title belts hostage. They’re all tied up and don’t want to fight the best heavyweights. No wonder fans criticize heavyweights. Ruiz is the first and only Latino heavyweight champion of the world. STEVE “USS” CUNNINGHAM NAMED BEST BOXER BY RING MAGAZINE; IBF cruiserweight champion best boxer by the”Bible of Boxing” for second consecutive year

Philadelphia- For the second consecutive year, Ring Magazine has named Steve “USS” Cunningham the best boxer in the cruiserweight division.

It was a banner 2007 for Cunningham has he won and then defended the IBF Cruiserweight championship.

When told of the honor, Cunningham was more then happy of the accomplishment.

“This means a lot to me. It means the hard work I have put in to reach a certain level has continued and people still recognize that. I only plan to bring my skills up to a higher level and continue to reign as champion.”

“The Ring Magazine means a lot and with David Haye moving to heavyweight, I know one of the criteria’s of crowning a new champion is that the top-two contenders fighting each other. As I look at the rankings, I am number-one and Jean-Marc Mormeck is two. We are both promoted by Don King so I hope that a fight with us can be made so I can win that belt.”

Cunningham, 21-1 with eleven knockouts will also be appearing on ESPN radio, 950-am in Philadelphia on the Mike Missinelli show this Friday in the 3 o’clock hour.

The champ will be doing the show live at O'Malley's, 56 Cresent Blvd, Gloucester City, NJ.

2-time world heavyweight champion John 'The Quietman' Ruiz, Ruiz rated high, still avoided "Team Ruiz"

LAS VEGAS– Former two-time world heavyweight champion John “The Quietman” Ruiz used to be the Rodney Dangerfield of boxing as well as one of its most avoided fighters. Now, though, the new Ruiz has gained respect in many circles, particularly after his impressive win against 4-time world title challenger Jameel McCline, yet, John remains the opponent champions and top contenders alike least want to fight.

Top American contender Ruiz and European challenger Alexander Dimitrenko are the only heavyweights rated among the top six in the World Boxing Association, World Boxing Council and International Boxing Federation. Rated No. 2 and No. 3 by the WBA and WBC, respectively, and No. 6 by the IBF but, unlike Dimitrenko, Ruiz is also ranked in the top 10 by The Ring magazine.

“After so many years of not being respected,” Ruiz said, “it’s exciting to know and feel that I’m finally being recognized as one of the top heavyweights in the world. I’m glad. It’s been a long time coming. I’m ready to clean-up the heavyweight division and I’m willing to fight any of the reigning champs or other top contenders.

“I can’t wait for my next fight. I’m so much more confident fighting this time around, throwing more punches and combinations, just being more aggressive in the ring. I’m motivated more today than I ever was in the past. I changed my whole team and it’s really made a big difference, especially having Manny Siaca, Sr. as head trainer. I’ve learned so much from Manny. We’ve been working hard and it’s paying off.”

Ruiz (43-7-1, 29 KOs) has fought himself back into position for another world title shot, coming off an impressive 12-round decision on March 8 in a near shutout performance (119-109, 118-110, 117-111) against McCline, who is his previous fight had three times floored new Samuel Peter, returning to the vintage days when “The Quietman” first won a world title with a 12-round decision against legendary Evander Holyfield in 2001.

The Puerto Rican-American Ruiz is the first and only Latino heavyweight champion of the world. He has fought in 10 world championship fights, defeating three world heavyweight champions -- Evander Holyfield, Hasim Rahman and Tony Tucker – in addition to beating top contenders such as Andrew Golota, Fres Oquendo, Kirk Johnson and McCline during his 15-year pro career.
