http://nhbnews.podOmatic.com/entry/2008-07-07T04_33_31-07_00

On this edition of No Holds Barred, host Eddie Goldman speaks with our colleague Kid Peligro, a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt, a senior editor of the ADCC News (http://www.adcombat.com/), and a correspondent on our show.

In a lengthy and candid interview, we discuss numerous topics, including the victory by Xande Ribeiro (http://unijj.com/) in the absolutes at the 2008 World Jiu-Jitsu Championships, the crossover of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu athletes to MMA, how Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is the foundation of MMA, how the current overall direction of MMA reflects a bias towards striking over grappling, the opposing values which are predominantly promoted by Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and MMA, the next Fury Fighting Championship MMA event July 12 in Rio de Janeiro (http://www.furyfight.com), the connection between Fury FC and the Japanese MMA promotion Dream, which member of the Gracie family might become the next big star in MMA, why the Japanese MMA promoters seem more interested in the Gracies than the American promoters, and more.

You can also watch Kid Peligro's Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu video interviews on the KidPeligroBJJNews on YouTube (http://youtube.com/user/KidPeligroBJJNews).

Message from Team Edgar Santana...‏

Due to recent rumblings regarding MSG being a potential venue for a September 20th Roy Jones - Joe Calzaghe showdown and Dmitry Salita joining Jones’ Square Ring promotional company, Team Santana has instructed promoter Lou DiBella to reach out to Square Ring and make a Santana – Salita fight.

Santana – Salita is a fight people want to see and would no doubt be a commercial success. We sincerely hope that Jones - Calzaghe comes to NYC. Roy Jones is an active legend and it would be an honor for Edgar Santana to be on a Roy Jones undercard. We can make MSG buzz with further excitement by taking on Salita. We are eagerly waiting to see if Lou Dibella can strike the deal. Once the fight is made the NY Puerto Rican community will come out in mass to buy tickets.

Edgar Santana is ready, willing and able !!

Team Santana

FINAL QUOTES AND THOUGHTS AND WEIGHTS RICARDO TORRES vs. KENDALL HOLT AND LAMONT PETERSON-ROGELIO CASTANEDA; Friday, July 4th,

NOTE: WEIGHTS – Ricardo Torres and Kendall Holt each weighed in at 139 pounds during Friday’s weigh-in. Lamont Peterson and Rogelio Castaneda each tipped the scales at 141 pounds.

Both talented fighters weighed 139 pounds, one under the division limit. The fight card is promoted by Bob Arum's Top Rank, Inc.

Ten months after a wildly controversial ending to their first fight, Ricardo Torres will defend his World Boxing Organization (WBO) junior welterweight title against No. 2 contender Kendall Holt in a rematch on a special edition of ShoBox: The New Generation on Saturday, July 5, 2008, live on SHOWTIME at 11 p.m. ET/PT (delayed on the west coast).

Holt hopes to show his true colors again, and leave Torres seeing stars on a special edition of ShoBox: The New Generation tomorrow/Saturday on SHOWTIME (11 p.m. ET/PT, delayed on the west coast) when he challenges defending champion Torres for the WBO junior welterweight title in a highly anticipated main event of a controversial fight that took place 10 months ago.

Photos: Tom Casino/SHOWTIME

In the 10-round junior welterweight co-feature, undefeated World Boxing Association (WBA)/WBO No. 5 140-pound contender Lamont Peterson (24-0, 11 KOs) will put his undefeated record on the line against former International Boxing Association champion Rogelio Castaneda. Top Rank will promote both contests from the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nev.

Torres (32-1, 28 KOs), who will defend his WBO crown for a third time, rallied to score a hotly debated 11th-round TKO over Holt (23-2, 12 KOs) on Sept. 1, 2007, in the champion’s hometown of Barranquilla, Colombia.

RICARDO TORRES

“Holt’s style bothered me the first few rounds of our first fight, and it took me a while to figure him out. He is not an easy guy to fight.

“Holt kept running away from me and he wouldn’t stand still. He wasn’t really doing anything except running.

“I made some mistakes in the first fight. Now, I know how to resolve some mistakes I made and take advantage of Holt’s mistakes. I will pressure him and make him do things that he is not ready to do.

“I don’t think Holt is going to change how he fights. He is going to run and stay away from me. We plan to cut off the ring and keep him off of the ropes.

“I had some personal problems to take care off before taking this fight against Holt. This was the best opportunity for me. They talked about me fighting Ricky Hatton at one time, but it didn’t happen.

“Holt is a great boxer. His hand speed bothered me in the first fight. I have to get close to him and not let him dictate the rhythm of this fight.”

Stars and stripes forever: Getting into the spirit of the day, Kendall Holt (left) of Paterson, N.J., dons a red, white and blue hat while posing with Ricardo Torres (wearing a hat from his native Colombia) after Friday's weigh-in at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nev.

KENDALL HOLT

“If it don’t make dollars, it don’t make sense. No one else would have made Torres this kind of money except for me. That is why he took the fight.

“Torres hits really hard, but I will stand my ground and box at my leisure.

“I got caught in an exchange against Torres and the referee prematurely stopped the first fight. The referee stopped the fight because he said I was hurt, but so what? You stop the fight when a fighter can’t defend himself. Arturo Gatti wouldn’t be who he is if they had stopped his fights.

“After looking at the tape of the first Torres fight, I should have been circling and sticking the jab. Torres caught me at a good time and in an exchange when my hands were down. The referee prematurely stopped the fight. I was still able to defend myself. I wasn’t incoherent.

“I fought after the Torres fight and was able to get past our first fight mentally, emotionally and physically.

“Torres fought pretty passively against me. This fight,

I will focus on keeping the action alive and strategically weakening him. I am going to be as active as Marvin Hagler. I am going to make Torres pay for his mistakes.
“Torres is not going to come in there and just try to take my head off. If he said that, he is lying. He is worried about getting hit. When you are a knockout puncher, why would you be asking for smaller gloves?

“This whole week I have been thinking about hitting Torres and watching him fall. When I start to calm down, this fight is in the bag for me. If I box Torres’ ears off, I box his ears off. If I knock him out, I knock him out.

LAMONT PETERSON

“If Castaneda gets too aggressive, I am going to have to let him know that he cannot charge me.

“I can’t look past Castaneda. If I don’t do my job and do what I am supposed to do against him, I won’t be able to have the bigger fights.

“I match up with any of the guys with the 140-pound belts, and I know I can beat them. I would out-skill Timothy Bradley. I can show everyone that I can box against Ricky Hatton. I would track Paulie Malignaggi down.

“This has been the longest time for me between fights. I am ready to hit and be hit. I am ready to work.

“How I win and how I look is important tomorrow night. The better I look, the more demand there will be for me.”

Rogelio Castaneda (left) and Lamont Peterson square off after the weigh in. Both weighed 141 pounds. The unbeaten, world-ranked Peterson and Castaneda will collide in the ShoBox 10-round junior welterweight co-feature at Planet Hollywood.

ROGELIO CASTANEDA

“Peterson is a good boxer, but can’t fight. I want to do whatever is necessary to take him out of this fight. I want to fight inside and come in behind my jab.

“I want to give Peterson his first defeat. I know that I have to knock him out to defeat him. I am not going to win a decision.

“I don’t really know my fighting style. They tell me I’m a boxer and an aggressively strong fighter. I want to run through Peterson.

“I have had problems with cuts. I always get cut in my fights.”

DEANDRE LATIMORE WANTS VERNO PHILLIPS

ST. LOUIS, MO- After his stunning ESPN2 televised knockout victory over Sechew Powell on June 11th at the Hard Rock Café in New York City, Deandre “THE BULL” Latimore is looking for his next victim stated his manager, Jerry Giuliano.

Said Giuliano, “We would really like a shot at the current IBF champion Verno Phillips before he files for social security.” The 22 year old Latimore knows that Phillips is getting up in age and hopes to get a crack at him before he retires.

Continued Giuliano, “Deandre deserves this chance as he not only beat Powell, who was rated # 1 by the IBF, but he is the only fighter ever to stop him. We were hoping for a fight with Cory Spinks with the winner taking on Phillips.

We have called Cory out on several occasions but it is apparent he knows that Deandre is too much for him. The fans of St. Louis would love that fight as a cross-town showdown. We’re prepared to show that Deandre truly is the boss.”

No Holds Barred: Ricardo Torres, Kendall Holt, Bob Arum, Nick Lembo,ABC Meeting and MMA

No Holds Barred: Ricardo Torres, Kendall Holt, Bob Arum, Nick Lembo,ABC Meeting and MMA On this edition of No Holds Barred, host Eddie Goldman begins by commenting on the discussion we had on the most recent edition of this show with the award-winning boxing writer and author, Thomas Hauser of SecondsOut.com, about his views on UFC and the mixed martial arts. While we obviously disagreed with most of his views on MMA, we commenton the need to establish the positive social benefits of legalizing and sanctioning MMA. This is not only not done by most of the supporters of MMA, but many of the major MMA promotions actually promote anti-social values and bad sportsmanship. Next, we preview the much-anticipated rematch between WBO junior welterweight champion Ricardo Torres (32-1, 28 KOs) and challenger Kendall Holt (23-2, 12 KOs). Their first bout, held Sept. 1, 2007, in Torres's hometown of Barranquilla, Colombia, ended with a controversial 11th-round TKO win for Torres. This fight was clearly marred by a wildly unruly crowd, which repeatedly soaked the ring with debris and liquids, even hitting Holt and a cornerman with beer cans. The Torres-Holt rematch takes place this Saturday night, July 5, at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. It will be televised live in the U.S. on Showtime. It is the most important fight being held this weekend, and should be an energetic, exciting scrap. On a media teleconference call this week, we spoke with both Ricardo Torres and Kendall Holt about their first fight and what to expect inthis one. We also got the comments of promoter Bob Arum about thecontinuing controversies in boxing, including the much-discusseddisqualification last week of Humberto Soto in his fight withFrancisco Lorenzo. We next had a lengthy interview with Nick Lembo, counsel for the NewJersey State Athletic Control Board, and a longtime supporter of mixedmartial arts. He is attending the annual meeting of the Association ofBoxing Commissions (ABC), which is going on this weekend in Montreal,Quebec, Canada. MMA is a major topic at this meeting. Among the topics we discussed were: what the ABC is doing to educatevarious commissions about regulating MMA in their jurisdictions, whythe New York legislature did not recently approve the legalization ofthe sport, the need for the Muhammad Ali Boxing Reform Act to beextended to MMA, why MMA promoters should work together like evenboxing promoters often do, UFC contracts, the establishment by the ABCof an official MMA record keeper, federal ID cards for MMA fighters, clarifications of the MMA unified rules, guidelines for amateur MMA,the ABC deciding to make discussion about MMA a regular part of theiragenda along with boxing, and more. FINAL PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES RICARDO TORRES & KENDALL HOLT LAMONT PETERSON & ROGELIO CASTANEDA; Thursday, July 3, at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino

Ten months after a wildly controversial ending to their first fight, Ricardo Torres will defend his World Boxing Organization (WBO) junior welterweight title against No. 1 contender Kendall Holt in a rematch on a special edition of ShoBox: The New Generation on Saturday, July 5, 2008, live on SHOWTIME at 11 p.m. ET/PT (delayed on the west coast). The talented boxers featured on a special edition of ShoBox: The New Generation Saturday on SHOWTIME (11 p.m. ET/PT, delayed on the west coast) wait their turn to speak during Thursday's press conference at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas.

(Left-to-right) Ricardo Torres, Rogelio Castaneda, Hall of Fame promoter, Bob Arum, CEO, Top Rank, Lamont Peterson and Kendall Holt.

“I’m ready. Let’s get it on.

“There is no pressure on me to prove anything in this fight. Whatever I do, I won’t be able to change the minds of anybody who saw the first fight against Holt.

“I’m very prepared and I am here to win this fight and defend this title. I know Holt is tough, but there is not really anything that he can do that he didn’t do before.

“Having fought Holt, I know I feel a little more comfortable inside the ring. (But) That doesn’t mean he is less dangerous.

“I expect that Holt will run like he did last time. If he stops and exchanges, it will be to my advantage, and it will be an easier fight.”

KENDALL HOLT

“I want to thank God for keeping me healthy during that whole ordeal (first fight).

“I went to Florida for training and missed my son learning how to ride his bike without training wheels, his pre-school graduation, and his birthday. I was completely focused for the entire six weeks of camp.

Torres (left) and Holt pose a couple different ways after the press conference. In an eagerly awaited 12-round rematch of a hotly disputed fight 10 months ago, Holt will challenge defending champion Torres for the WBO junior welterweight title in Saturday's ShoBox main event.

“In boxing training camps, every day is a struggle. No matter how tired you are, no matter how much your muscles and bones ache, you have to give 100 percent and try to surpass what you did the previous day. You have to aim to do it harder and faster. After a while, it starts to take a toll on your mind and body.

“If I come up short, I know in my heart that I did the best that I could. On Saturday night, I am going to prevail. All the hard work I put in is going to pay off.

“I can’t wait for this fight. No one knows what I have endured. I thought a rematch was not going to happen. That is why every fight is important. It didn’t matter if it was for a different belt. I wanted to be fighting for a world championship.

LAMONT PETERSON

“This is not the first time that we (Peterson brothers) have fought on different cards, but I sort of like it that way. The way it is now, I don’t have to worry about his (Anthony’s) fight. I just have to worry about mine.

“Anthony fought last week in Las Vegas. I wanted to fight first so I could just kick back and relax here this week like everyone else. I am the only one training.

“I don’t know anything about my opponent other than he has fought a lot of top-10 guys. I plan to do to him (Castaneda) what they did.

“Fighting on SHOWTIME again is very exciting. The TV exposure I have received has been beneficial. It gets me a few free haircuts back home. But, what really surprises me is that we (Peterson brothers) get recognized almost everywhere we go now. We were at Disneyworld, and some people recognized us. It was pretty exciting.

“Everybody knows what time it is…fight time. Fighters don’t talk too much right before a fight.

“I am sure that Castaneda did not come here to lose. I am going to enjoy myself, and I hope everybody else does too. After the fight, I am really going to enjoy myself at this beautiful hotel.’’

ROGELIO CASTANEDA

“I want to show people that I am still here. I want to show people that I am here to put on a good show. Hopefully, they will put me on other shows.”

Castaneda (left) and Peterson square off after the presser. The unbeaten, world-ranked Peterson and Castaneda will collide in the ShoBox 10-round junior welterweight co-feature.

BOB ARUM (CEO, TOP RANK, INC.)

“This show is going to be an outstanding event. People are going to see great, quality fights on SHOWTIME this Saturday night.

“This is a close, close fight. The odds are favoring Holt almost 3-1, but it should be much closer.”

GORDON HALL (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER, SHOBOX: THE NEW GENERATION)

“We are extremely proud to have the opportunity to televise this Torres-Holt world title rematch on SHOWTIME.’’

ALEX VALDEZ LEADS NEW CHARGE OF FUTURE CHAMPIONS AT ESPINOZA BOXING CLUB

LOS ANGELES- With super bantamweight Alex Valdez’s big win over Anytei Laryea in Chicago broadcast as the main event on SOLO BOXEO on June 20th, Los Angles based Espinoza Boxing Club continued it’s progress towards producing future world champions such as Junior Featherweight King Israel “EL MAGNIFICO” Vazquez and recently retired former bantamweight champion Martin "EL GALLITO" Castillo.

Said Frank Espinoza, President of Espinoza Boxing Club, “Since we started in 1991 our goal was to work with the finest prospects in boxing and build them into world champions. We’ve had success with Israel and Martin, and now it looks like Alex Valdez is on his way to a title shot within the next twelve months and we’re working with a real solid crop of kids that we’re excited about.

The newcomers are young prospects including Luis Ramos Jr., Manny “Suavecito” Roman, Jesus “Pollo” Hernandez, Carlos Molina and the recently signed Abraham Lopez. They’re all undefeated and I think we’ve got some future world champions.”

“We’ve also got Miguel Huerta who’s coming off the controversial decision loss to Javier Jauregui a few months back and he’s fighting on SOLO BOXEO on July 11th in Corpus Christi. And Julio "La Sombra" Zarate is fighting an IBF Super Bantamweight Title Eliminator later this summer.

Espinoza is commended for his managerial work with Israel Vazquez in the September 2008 issue of Ring Magazine in a special report on “The Five Best Managed Fighters.”

The 24 year old Alex Valdez has worked his record to 21-2-1 with fifteen knockouts following his win over Laryea. He is currently world ranked #2 by the WBC, #5 by the WBO, #10 by the IBF and #15 by the WBA. He is undefeated in his last seventeen bouts.

On June 27th, highly regarded lightweight prospect Luis Ramos Jr. improved to a perfect 5-0 with three knockouts with a devastating first round knockout of Noe Jimenez at the Doubletree Hotel in Ontario, California. Ramos will next battle on July 25th at the Sycuan Resort and Casino in El Cajon, California on an ESPN2 televised card.

Flyweight Manny “Sauvecito” Roman, despite being only 20 years old, has quickly moved into the contender category, winning his first ten round bout over Sergio Espinoza on April 7th. The win moved his record to 13-0-1 with five knockouts.

Los Mochis, Mexico native Jesus “Pollo” Hernandez moved to 6-0 (1KO) on April 7th as the lightweight knocked out the similarly named Jesus Hernandes in the fourth round. Hernandez will return to action on July 11th at the Quiet Cannon Country Club in Montebello, California.

Veteran super bantamweight Julio ‘LA SOMBRA” Zarate, 26-4-1 (16KO’s), riding a five bout winning streak, heads to South Africa where he will face Jeffrey Mathebula on August 29th in an IBF Title Eliminator. Zarate is currently world ranked #3 by the IBF and #6 by the WBA.

Super featherweight prospect Carlos Molina improved his record to 3-0 with a four round decision win over Odilon Rivera on June 19th in Irvine, California. Molina is also scheduled to return to the ring on July 30th at the Sycuan Resort and Casino in El Cajon, California on the ESPN2 televised card.

Recently signed to the Espinoza Boxing Club stable, super featherweight Abraham Lopez raised his record to 2-0 with a first round stoppage of veteran Tomas Bernal on May 2nd. Lopez will return on July 25th at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas on July 25th on an SOLO BOXEO televised card.

Dunne - "I want my title back"‏

Despite returning to winning ways against Felix Machado in Castlebar in April Bernard Dunne admits there’s something missing at the moment – his European title belt.

The Dubliner is back in action in his native city on July 12th when he meets Argentina’s Damian Marchiano in the Hunky Dorys Fight Night headline bout at the National Stadium.

Dunne is hopeful that an impressive win over Marchiano will take him a step closer to a fight with the man who now holds his old European Super Bantamweight title belt – England’s Rendall Munroe.

“I want my old title back,” said Dunne before adding, “I hear Munroe's not all that keen on giving me an opportunity so we might have to just try and force his hand by waiting for the EBU to make me his mandatory challenger.”

Before that though Dunne has to deal with the challenge posed by Marchiano at the National Stadium. The Neilstown native admits he’s been impressed by what he’s seen of his South American foe. “I’ve watched a DVD of him and he’s a very aggressive fighter. He likes to press the action and is constantly on the front foot. He likes to drag the other guy into his kind of fight.”

The 28-year-old Argentinean has a record of 15 wins, 4 losses and a draw and Dunne says a closer look at his record reveals his quality. “He’s mixed in very good company and there’s no shame in losing to the guys he has lost to.

“Abner Mares is very highly rated and one of the big up and coming stars in the U.S. Last time out he lost to Silence Mabuza for the IBO title but for me Mabuza is probably the best bantamweight in the world right now and certainly the best puncher in that weight division.”

Dunne and trainer Harry Hawkins are currently putting the finishing touches to preparations for the fight after a two month training camp in Belfast. The Dubliner insists he’s happy to remain at super bantamweight despite this fight being agreed at a catch weight of 2 pounds above the 8 stone 10 pounds super bantamweight limit.

“I suppose there will always be options at featherweight but super bantamweight is where I’m most comfortable. This fight is a non title fight so it’s been made at a catch weight but super bantam is where I see my future. At the moment I’m just buzzing to be back fighting regularly again and I’m really looking forward to getting backto the National Stadium and putting in a good performance.”

The undercard features a pair of Irish title fights as Jim Rock returns in a historic bid to become a four weight Irish Champion against Jonjo Finnegan while Cavan’s Andrew Murray bids for his second Irish title against current Lightweight champ Peter McDonagh.

The card also features Dubliners Oisin Fagan, Ian Tims and Eugene Heagney and the anticipated return of big punching Belfastman Darren Corbett.

Tickets for the Hunky Dorys Fight Night priced from €50 are available from Ticketmaster.ie and all usual outlets.

Ruiz getting another WBA title shot‏

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina– The World Boxing Association ruled today at its Directory Meeting that WBA heavyweight champion Ruslan Chagaev will be considered “champion in recess” due to an injury and that he has until June 26, 2009 to fight for the title.

Negotiations have started between representatives of the WBA’s top two rated heavyweights, ex-WBA champion Nikolai Valuev and former two-time WBA title-holder John “The Quietman” Ruiz (43-7-1, 29 KOs), respectively, to fight for the WBA “regular” heavyweight championship belt. The Valuev-Ruiz will be obliged to fight Chagaev by June 26, 2009.

“We’re happy to get an opportunity to fight for the WBA title again,” Ruiz said from Argentina.

The Puerto Rican-American Ruiz, living in Las Vegas, is the first and only Latino heavyweight champion of the world. He has fought in 10 world championship fights, defeating three world heavyweight champions -- Evander Holyfield, Hasim Rahman and Tony Tucker – in addition to beating top contenders such as Andrew Golota, Fres Oquendo, Kirk Johnson and Jameel McCline during his 15-year pro career.

Happily Natural Day Overview Happily Natural Day specifically focuses on natural hair because women of afrikan descent throughout the globe have been taught to straighten their hair in order to conform to a european standard of beauty. To this phenomenon, HND responds "Black is Beautiful" and encourages all afrikans to "Love Thyself" with the overstanding that a nation can only rise as high as its women primarily and that aesthetic plays a major part in the development of a people's positive self perception.

ANDREI “The Pitbull” ARLOVSKI vs. “Big” BEN ROTHWELL; The Tale of The Pitbull and The Giant

SIGNAL HILL, California– There are a number of reasons not to miss the mega mixed martial arts extravaganza, “Affliction Banned,” this July 19th at Honda Center in Anaheim, California — not least of which is the unbelievable main event — a dream match-up between heavyweight champs Fedor Emelianenko and Tim Sylvia. But the list of transcendent fight talent doesn’t end there. In one of the biggest cards in the history of the sport, the inaugural fight event of Affliction Entertainment will feature an unprecedented line-up of the best MMA combatants competing against each other, including a brutal, full contact bout between the two heavyweight powerhouses, Andrei “The Pitbull” Arlovski and “Big” Ben Rothwell.

Former UFC® Heavyweight Champion Andrei Arlovski is a 6’ 4”, 240-pound former cop from Belarus with dangerous stand up skills, a brutal right punch, and deft mobility and striking accuracy. Arlovski tears into his opponents, often dealing out devastating damage before the other fighter even has time to recover. Considered one of the top ten ranked heavyweight fighters in the world, “The Pitbull” is one of the world’s most complete MMA fighters, as well as one of its most fearsome. This dreaded competitor gets high marks in grappling ability and massive striking power. He has won notable victories over Tim Sylvia, Paul Buentello, Vladimir Matyushenko, Fabricio Werdum and Wesley “Cabbage” Correira, among others. For his upcoming fight with Rothwell, Arlovski has been training with legendary boxing trainer Freddie Roach, who has trained many boxing champions such as Mike Tyson, Oscar De La Hoya, Bernard Hopkins and Manny Pacquiao. Arlovski’s hard work combined with sheer talent and strong mental preparedness give his opponents plenty to worry about in the ring.

Arlovski will face-off with former IFL® heavyweight standout Ben Rothwell, who is riding an impressive 13-fight winning streak and is currently ranked as the number 10best heavyweight fighter in the world. At 6'5' and 265 pounds, this gritty, determined Wisconsin native is a force to reckon with in the ring—just ask anyone who has squared off against him. A young fighter full of zest and energy and a personality as big as his frame, Rothwell is one of the most entertaining athletes in MMA—Rothwell never fails to deliver. And he has an impeccable record, rattling off 11 knockouts among his first 17 MMA victories with a flair that crowds eat up. A wicked combination of aggression, power and style drives Rothwell’s numerous victories. The sheer force with which this giant strikes his opponents leads to the frequent knockouts he is famous for. But his brute strength is tempered by a good measure of agility, allowing him to inflict accurate and precise punishment. “Big” Ben’s fierce ring presence and heavy-handedness often has opponents voluntarily choosing to leave the ring to avoid serious injury.

Ben "Big Ben" Rothwell

The brawl between the ferocious “Pitbull” and giant “Big” Ben is sure to please sports fans hungry for a truly ballistic competition and a performance full of charisma. These two magnetic, world-class fighters always put on a great show. With their collective striking power and bigger-than-life personalities, these well-matched opponents combine powerful fighting techniques with a spark of showmanship that electrifies their audience. Both fighters are known for their tremendous hard-hitting styles and numerous victories. Their bouts often end in knockouts — explosive, expedient, and purely exciting. On July 19th in Anaheim, fans will bear witness to a dynamic exhibition of prowess, as these two crowd-pleasing and accomplished warriors deal out a gallon of pain for guts and glory for “Affliction Banned.”

“Affliction Banned,” headlined by the WAMMA heavyweight title bout between Russian superstar Fedor Emelianenko and Tim Sylvia, is stacked with so much world-class talent that it had to be separated into two live shows produced for broadcast. The night’s activities will kick off with “Affliction Live,” a one-hour, free live telecast on FSN (Fox Sports Net) starting at 5 PM Pacific (8 PM/ET) and setting the stage for “Affliction Banned” – five super fights on pay-per-view starting at 6 PM/PT (9 PM/ET) via iN DEMAND, TVN, Shaw Communications, Viewers Choice Canada, DirecTV, DISH Network, Bell ExpressVue and Star Choice in the United States and Canada for a suggested retail price of $39.95.

The heavy metal band Megadeth, led by frontman, guitarist, and songwriter Dave Mustaine, will be performing live at the event.

Tickets for “Affliction Banned” range between $50.00 and $1,000.00, and are on sale at Honda Center’s Box Office and also online at Ticketmaster.com.
