NEW YORK- After dominating Paul Williams for 12 rounds and capturing the WBO welterweight title in convincing fashion, Carlos Quintana believes that he is still getting no respect.
Going into their Saturday, June 7 rematch for Quintana’s title on SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING (9 p.m. ET/PT delayed on the west coast), most industry experts have the champion as the underdog to Williams.
In the second fight of the World Championship Doubleheader at the Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Conn., Vernon Forrest will defend his WBC super welterweight title against Sergio Mora, the winner of the inaugural season of The Contender.
“I feel like the respect people give me is not the respect I deserve,” Quintana said. “I feel like I have to go out and prove myself on June 7 once again.”
Going into their first bout on Feb. 9, 2008, Quintana (25-1, 19 KOs) was a significant underdog. He understands that he needs a great performance on SHOWTIME to quiet the naysayers once-and-for-all.
“Last time I was a 6-1 underdog and this time I am the underdog again,” said the 31-year-old Quintana. “It doesn’t matter. It can be 20-1 for all I care.
“I am stronger and my training has been more intense than it was for the first fight. I know he took me lightly our first time around, so I am training harder and smarter than ever before.”
The result of their first fight was a shock for Williams, who came in with the confidence of an undefeated fighter, and perhaps overlooked Quintana.
Quintana, of Puerto Rico, is 25-1 with 19 knockouts. The only blemish on his record came in a hard-fought bout against Miguel Cotto for the WBA welterweight title on Dec. 2, 2006 on SHOWTIME.
Williams (33-1, 24 KOs), of Augusta, Ga., captured the belt with a close decision over Antonio Margarito, who had made seven successful defenses, on July 14, 2007.
“In the first fight, I just couldn’t get my rhythm,” Williams said. “It prevented me from fighting how I normally fight.
“I just have to get in there and take my title back from him. I’m going in with the mindset of the underdog looking to upset the champion.”

Emery-Martinez IFBA World Title Fight Added to June 12th show FSN Best Damn Championship Fight Night Period Card at Mohegan Sun
HENDERSON, Nevada– An IFBA World welterweight title fight between Jill Emery and Angel Martinez has been added to Thursday night’s (June 12) Fox Sports Net’s Best Damn Championship Fight Night Period card at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut.
IFBA World junior featherweight champion Lisa “Bad News” Brown (14-3-3, 4 KOs) and challenger Alicia “Slick” Ashley (14-7-1, 1 KO) headline Best Damn Championship Fight Night Period, presented by Cappiello Boxing in association with Hollybrook Regency, Inc., in the 10-round main event.
Emery-Martinez for the vacant IFBA World welterweight championship replaces the 10-round co-feature with Elena “Baby Doll” Reid (9-4-5, 5 KOs) defending her IFBA World flyweight crown. Reid’s original opponent, Russian invader Anastasia Toktaulova (12-8, 2 KOs), failed to get her visa issued and her replacement, Crystal Hoy, wasn’t approved because she’s still under suspension. Emery was already on the June 12th show, scheduled to face Crystal Nickel in a 6-round bout, but she gladly accepted a world title shot against Martinez. Reid now faces undefeated Ava Knight (3-0-1) in a 6-round non-title fight.
Pittsburgh-native Emery (8-2, 3 KOs), a graduate of Bucknell University, is a 3-time US Nationals champion, who now lives and fights out of New York City, where she is a physical training instructor. She captured top honors four years in the New York Daily News Golden Gloves Championship, won a gold medal in the 2004 Women’s World Boxing Tournament, and was named 2004 USA Boxing’s Female Athlete of the Year. As a pro, Jill was the winner of the first women’s pro fight in Ireland last June by eight-round decision versus Angel McKenzie in a shutout performance, winning all eight rounds on the scorecard.
Martinez (6-4-1, 1 KOs), fighting out of Dallas, has a deceiving record because she’d be 6-1 if not for four fights against Holly Holm, who, ironically, relinquished her IFBA World welterweight that Emery and Martinez are fighting for when she agreed to fight for the vacant IFBA World junior middleweight belt June 13 against Mary Jo Sanders. In addition to fighting a draw with Holm, Martinez holds a 10-round win by decision against former star Christy Martin.
Las Vegas’ undefeated mega-star Melinda Cooper (18-0, 10 KOs) fights for the first time in nearly 18 months versus KO artist Donna “Nature Girl” Biggers (19-7-1, 16 KOs), of Shelby, North Carolina, in a special 6-round junior featherweight bout.

Mary Jo Sanders: The Queen of the Middleweights is a born athlete, the daughter of Football Hall of Fame inductee and former Detroit Lions star tight end, Charlie Sanders…..she excelled in track and field, basketball, gymnastics, bodybuilding – 1998 Miss Natural Michigan heavyweight champion – and kickboxing….also competed in Tough Woman contests, in which, she won a world championship in the open-weight competition in 2000, giving away as much as 90 pounds to her opponent…..a gifted boxer who won her division in the 2002 Detroit Golden Gloves and has gone on to win all 25 of her professional prizefights, four world titles in four different divisions – light welterweight through middleweight. Chevelle Hallback: Pound-for-pound arguably one of the top athletes in women’s boxing today, as well as one of the most recognized female fighters because of exposure she’s received several times on television, and her willingness to take on some of the sport’s biggest names…..unable to find suitable opponents when she first started boxing in 1996, she skipped amateur boxing and turned pro on February 21, 1997, stopping Connie Plosser in the opening round of their fight in Miami…..the subject of a short film entitled, Fists of Steel, directed by Annie Griffith, about female boxing, gender-politics, family and religious issues….studied psychology at Hillsborough Community College in Tampa…..reigning WIBA & IB junior middleweight champion.
Jeannie “G9” Garside: Highly-decorated Canadian amateur boxer and rising star in professional boxing, capturing the WIBA super bantamweight title in only her fourth pro fight, and the WIBA featherweight title in her seventh…. Jeannine started boxing after watching Christy Martin fight on a Mike Tyson undercard in1996, quickly developing into the 1998 & 1999 British Columbia champion and 1998 British Columbia Fighter of the Year. She earned a spot on the Canadian National Women’s Boxing Team and won a gold medal in the 2000 Canadian National Championships….boxing career suffered a set-back when she tore an ACL in her knee during a touch football game in 2000, which required reconstructive surgery….in 2001 she reached the semifinals of the AIBA World Amateur Championships but the following year she won her fourth straight national title. Hollie “Hot Stuff” Dunaway: Only 23-years-old and has captured four world titles….. no amateur background and began boxing at 18 in Fort Smith, Arkansas….became interested in boxing, feeling that it looked like fun, by watching other females training at the World Class Fitness Center in Fort Smith…..first turned pro in 2003, getting stopped in the second round against Melissa Shaffer (3-0) in Memphis, Tennessee. Because Hollie didn’t have a promoter, she became a road warrior, fighting her opponents in their backyard, which explains her 3-3 start as a pro and relatively slow development until moving to St. Louis and signing with Rumble Time Promotions in 2007….recently relocated in Las Vegas to help hr boxing career….reigning WIBF-GBU & WIBC minimumweight and NABF flyweight champion.
Wendy “Little Thunder” Rodriguez: Holds a degree in child development and works in infancy relationship, making home visits for play therapy with needy children who are sick….. the diminutive (4-11) fighter is certainly testimony to the old statement about good things coming in small packages…she packs a solid punch and already has captured three titles….the stylish boxer compensates for her lack of size by frustrating her opponents with slick moves and tremendous boxing skills….had only had six amateur matches, including a win by four-round decision against Canadian National silver medalist Tracey Stevens, before turning pro on May 14, 1999, winning a four-round decision versus Lisa Butler…she is the reigning IBA junior flyweight champion.
Eileen “The Hawaiian Mongoose” Olszewski: By boxing standard a late bloomer having captured her first world title at the tender age of 39…..former New York Knicks dancer, born in Hawaii as Miyoko Kuwaye….became a world champion in only her sixth pro fight…..ballet student who also has done stunt work in movies… first introduced to boxing nearly 20 years ago by her father, but she really didn’t get into it until meeting her now husband and head trainer, Matthew, at his New York martial arts studio when she was preparing for a role as a stunt double…..a natural from the beginning, albeit her late start, she went on to make her mark in amateur boxing, winning three U.S. national championships, as well as a gold medal at the 2001 Pan-Am Games. She retired at the age of 35 after registering a 28-0 record in U.S. amateur competition and 3-4 in International matches……made her pro debut on November 3, 2007, winning a four-round decision from Kimberly Torres at the Montecello Raceway in New York….reigning WIBA flyweight champion.
Carina “La Reina” Moreno: She sells tortillas and manning the cash register at her family’s Tacos Moreno in Watsonville, California… relatively shy, wide eyed 26-year old who was the World Boxing Council’s 2007 Female Fighter of the Year…..her cousin taught her how to hit the heavy bag when she was seven, never realizing that she’d grow into a 5’ 0” fighting machine and world-class boxer…at 18 she started out as a kick-boxer but she soon discovered that finding opponents was going to be a problem, so she got into boxing, and the rest is history…..started boxing in 2000 and she immediately showed her potential, defeating 2-time national champion Linda Carrillo in the final of the USA Boxing Everlast National Championships. Off of the aforementioned performance, she was chosen to represent the United States in the Feenix Box Cup in Finland, where she won a gold medal and was selected “Best Fighter of the Tournament”….. her highly-decorated amateur career (36-2) concluded after she learned that female boxing would not be included in the 2004 Olympics….made her pro debut on July 3, 2003, winning a four-round decision against Cecelia Barraza (2-0) and went on to win her first eight pro bouts…..a business student at Cabrillo Junior College in Aptos (CA), she balances school, working at her family’s restaurant and her boxing career, training nights in gyms at Watsonville, Gilroy, San Jose, Los Angeles and Reno, Nevada….often spars with men who outweigh her by as much as 20 pounds, runs 3-4 miles every morning, and lifts weight three times a week.

Wendy “Little Thunder” Rodriguez: Holds a degree in child development and works in infancy relationship, making home visits for play therapy with needy children who are sick….. the diminutive (4-11) fighter is certainly testimony to the old statement about good things coming in small packages…she packs a solid punch and already has captured three titles….the stylish boxer compensates for her lack of size by frustrating her opponents with slick moves and tremendous boxing skills….had only had six amateur matches, including a win by four-round decision against Canadian National silver medalist Tracey Stevens, before turning pro on May 14, 1999, winning a four-round decision versus Lisa Butler…she is the reigning IBA junior flyweight champion.
Eileen “The Hawaiian Mongoose” Olszewski: By boxing standard a late bloomer having captured her first world title at the tender age of 39…..former New York Knicks dancer, born in Hawaii as Miyoko Kuwaye….became a world champion in only her sixth pro fight…..ballet student who also has done stunt work in movies… first introduced to boxing nearly 20 years ago by her father, but she really didn’t get into it until meeting her now husband and head trainer, Matthew, at his New York martial arts studio when she was preparing for a role as a stunt double…..a natural from the beginning, albeit her late start, she went on to make her mark in amateur boxing, winning three U.S. national championships, as well as a gold medal at the 2001 Pan-Am Games. She retired at the age of 35 after registering a 28-0 record in U.S. amateur competition and 3-4 in International matches……made her pro debut on November 3, 2007, winning a four-round decision from Kimberly Torres at the Montecello Raceway in New York….reigning WIBA flyweight champion.

Affliction Banned/Donald Trump press conference Thursday in NYC

To announce a partnership between Affliction and Donald J. Trump, who will outline his involvement with Affliction and “Affliction Banned,” the star studded mixed-martial-arts show July 19th 2008 on pay-per-view television, featuring the return of Russian combat fighting icon Fedor Emelianenko at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.
“Affliction Banned” will be distributed on Pay-Per-View and air live (9 PM/ET, 6 PM/PT) on cable and satellite viewing in the USA and Canada via iN DEMAND, TVN, Shaw Communications, Viewer’s Choice Canada, DirecTV, DISH Network, Bell ExpressVue and Star Choice for a suggested retail price of $39.95. Previously undefeated junior middleweight James Moore shockingly upset on ESPN 2’s Wednesday Night Fights
Winky Wright Productions and Thomas Gallagher Promotions, in association with Sal Musemeci’s Final Forum, put together a sensational fight card at the Aviator Sports Complex in Brooklyn, New York, on June 4 that was televised on ESPN 2’s Wednesday Night Fights.
In the main event, Yusaf Mack, 174 ½, of Philadelphia won a unanimous decision over Brooklyn’s Daniel Judah, 174 ½, the older brother of former world champion Zab Judah. Mack looked devastating early on as he knocked Judah down in the second round with a pulverizing left uppercut. Judah managed to survive and made the bout competitive until the very end. All of the judges scored it 97-92 for Mack, who won the vacant NABA light heavyweight title.
In a shocking upset, Gabriel “King” Rosado, 152 ½, of Philadelphia improved his record to 10-2 (6 KOS) by winning an 8 round unanimous decision over previously undefeated Irish sensation James Moore, 15-1 (10 KOS), a native of County Wicklow, Ireland, who fights out of Queens.

The first two rounds were fought at a torrid pace, with Moore winning them handily. Rosado managed to stun Moore briefly in the fourth round, and knocked him down in the fifth with a punch that looked as if it landed behind Moore’s head. Moore rebounded and gave Rosado as much as he could handle until the end of the bout.
What shocked observers more than Moore losing was the scoring. ESPN commentator Teddy Atlas had Moore winning the fight, as did many fans in attendance. The three judges scored it unanimously for Rosado by scores of 77-74, 76-74 and 78-73. The third score, by Carlos Ortiz (not the former champion) raised a lot of eyebrows because it indicated that he only gave Moore two rounds of a fight many neutral observers thought he won.

“That judge has to be blind,” said a dejected Moore. “I just don’t get it. He (Rosado) was fighting only 20 to 30 seconds a round. I believe I landed more punches in each and every round. When I first heard the scores, I was certain that I won because I landed so many more punches.”
“That judge should be a spectator, not a judge,” added IBF junior welterweight champion Paul “Magic Man” Malignaggi, a good friend of Moore’s. “Most of the rounds James was doing all the work.”.jpg)
“Moore is a good fighter, so I knew I had to step my game up,” said the gracious Rosado. “He can come back from this. I lost two fights in my career. I was robbed in one and beat the other guy who beat me in a rematch. I feel that this win erases those losses. I hope he (Moore) realizes this is not the end of the world. He’s a tough guy and I take my hat off to him. He can fight, he just needs to regroup and come back.”
The last time Moore lost was in an Irish Olympic qualifying event in 2003. As heartbreaking as that was, his father, also named James, said his son got over that and he’ll get over this. “It’s a bump in the road,” he said. It’s never fun to lose, but I know my son. This fight will only make him more determined. He’ll be back, and he’ll be better than ever.”

"INSIDE THE NFL" TOUCHES DOWN AT SHOWTIME
New York, New York- Showtime Networks and CBS Sports are teaming to bring the highly acclaimed and award-winning NFL studio show, INSIDE THE NFL, to SHOWTIME. The announcement was made today by Matthew C. Blank, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Showtime Networks, Inc., Steve Bornstein, Executive Vice President of NFL Media, and Sean McManus, President, CBS News and Sports and Executive Producer, THE NFL ON CBS.
The show will be produced by CBS Sports and NFL Films and will premiere on SHOWTIME on Wednesday, September 10 (9:00 PM, ET/PT). It will air each Wednesday throughout the season through Wednesday, February 11, 2009.
Since its premiere in 1977, the heart of the one-hour show has been its exclusive and award-winning inside views from NFL Films, as well as its storied roster of talent recapping the weekend’s games and previewing the match-ups for the week ahead. The talent team for INSIDE THE NFL on Showtime will be announced in the coming weeks.

CBS's Inaugural Mixed Martial Arts Broadcast Dominates Its Time Period In All Key Young Men And Young Adult Demographics With Steady Gains Throughout The Telecast
Key Men Demos Soar in Final 21 Minutes: 4.1 in Men 18-34, 4.0 in Men 18-49,
4.3 in Men 25-54
Ratings for the final 51 minutes of CBS's inaugural CBS ELITEXC SATURDAY NIGHT FIGHTS mixed martial arts broadcast (11:00-11:51 PM, ET/PT), which were unavailable Sunday, delivered an average audience of 6.12 million viewers, according to updated Nielsen live plus same day ratings for Saturday, May 31.
The audience peaked at 6.51 million viewers from 11:30-11:51 PM which featured the night's main event—Kimbo Slice's victory over James Thompson.
Among key men demographics, the broadcast peaked from 11:30-11:51 PM with a 4.1 rating in men 18-34, 4.0 rating in men 18-49 and 4.3 rating in men 25-54.
The addition of the final 51 minutes lifted ratings for the entire broadcast. CBS ELITEXC SATURDAY NIGHT FIGHTS (S) (9:00-11:51 PM) delivered a 3.0/06 with 4.85m viewers, 2.2/07 in both adults 25-54 and adults 18-49, 2.3/09 in adults 18-34, 3.1/09in men 25-54, 3.0/10 in men 18-49 and 3.2/12 in men 18-34. In the 9:00-11:00 PM time slot, CBS was first in the adults and men demographics, second in both households and viewers.
Compared to CBS's 9:00-11:00 PM regularly scheduled programming on Saturday during the 2007-08 season, CBS was up +16% in adults 25-54 (from 1.9/05), +57% in adults 18-49 (from 1.4/04), +156% in adults 18-34 (from 0.9/03), +121% in men 25-54 (from 1.4/04), +173% in men 18-49 (from 1.1/03) and +357% in men 18-34 (from 0.7/03).
CBS also saw half-hour gains in viewers, adult and men demographics throughout the broadcast:

Duddy returns June 28th in Boston Headlining “Hassle In The Castle”
NEW YORK– Undefeated world middleweight contender “Ireland’s” John Duddy returns to the ring June 28 with a new head trainer in his corner, Pat Burns, in the 10-round main event against Charles Howe, headlining “Hassle In The Castle” at The Castle in Boston.
Duddy (24-0, 17 KOs), a native of County Derry in N. Ireland, lives and fights out of Queens, New York. He is rated No. 2 by the WBC and No. 3 by the WBO, as well as No. 5 by the WBA and No. 10 by the IBF. Burns trained Jermain Taylor to the world middleweight title. Howe (17-4-2, 9 KOs), fighting out of Ohio, is coming off of the only loss in his last 14 fights, dating back nearly eight years, to WBC USNBC champion Joey Gilbert in their title fight last September.
“We’re returning to Boston out of appreciation to all of his fans there,” Irish Ropes Promotions president Eddie McLoughlin said. “John has a lot of friends in Boston and he sold out The Castle 2 ½ years ago when he beat Julio Jean. There are a lot of Irish and Irish-Americans living there and we’ve received countless requests to return. We’re excited to be coming back on June 28 and John will be fighting for the first time with Pat Burns as his head trainer.”
South Boston middleweight Donald Orr (12-0, 5 KOs), 2000 Canadian Olympian, is scheduled to fight in the 8-round co-feature. On the undercard against opponents to be determined are Worcester (MA) middleweight prospect Edwin Rodriguez (6-0, 5 KOs), 2-time U.S. National amateur champion, faces his stiffest test to date in Marcus Upshaw (8-1, 3 KOs); Boston by way of Clare, Ireland cruiserweight Mark Clancy (7-0-1, 1 KO), 4-time Irish National amateur finalist; Lynn (MA) junior welterweight Simeon Dunwell (7-0, 2 KOs) and Philadelphia super featherweight Frank Trader (1-0, 0 KOs). Also this busy weekend, the 2008 World Jiu-Jitsu Championships, better known as the Mundials, take place beginning Thursday, June 5, and running through Sunday, June 8, at the Walter Pyramid on the campus of California State University Long Beach in Long Beach, California. DAVID DIAZ QUIETLY CELEBRATES BIRTHDAY THIS WEEKEND IN CHICAGO
CHICAGO, IL- World Boxing Council Lightweight Champion David Diaz will quietly celebrate his 32nd birthday on Saturday as he prepares for his title defense against boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao.
Said Diaz, "It will probably be just a late lunch out with my wife and
two boys. Usually my extended family and my friends get together and we have a larger party but this year its different because of my training and preparation for the fight. God willing, if all goes well, we can have a larger celebration after the fight June 28th in Las Vegas."
Diaz is currently training in Chicago for his world title defense against THE MEXICUTIONER set for Saturday, June 28th at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada

MONTELL GRIFFIN FIGHTS IN CHICAGO ON JUNE 20TH
CHICAGO, IL- “Nine years is a long time to be fighting out of town, I’m thrilled to be fighting at home on June 20th” said former world champion,
Montell “ICE” Griffin after a training session in his native Chicago.
‘I’ve been on the road for while and it’s nice that my kids and family can come see me fight in Chicago,” continued Griffin who was tutored by the legendary Eddie Futch.
Griffin, 48-7 with 30 knockouts over his illustrious 15 year career, will battle Baltimore native Corey Cummings, 16-2 (12KO’s) in a ten round light heavyweight bout at FEARLESS, an evening of world class professional boxing presented by Dominic Pesoli’s Productions, 8 Count Productions, HOME OF THE BEST IN CHICAGO BOXING, on Friday, June 20th at the Aragon Ballroom.
Tickets for FEARLESS are on sale now through Ticketmaster (www.ticketmaster) and the 8 Count Production offices at 312-226-5800. The Aragon Ballroom is located at 1106 W. Lawrence Ave. Doors for this event will open at 5:30pm with the first bell at 6:30pm.
About the current status of his career, Griffin was candid, “I know the deal at this point. I want to get to 50 wins and another shot at the world title. I’m training for Cummings like I would for a world title fight, there is absolutely no way I’m going into this fight at anything less than 100%. Hopefully a win here puts me in line for a bigger fight”, said the 1992 US Olympian.
In regards to the some of his biggest battles of his career including the DQ win over Roy Jones Jr., the wins over James Toney and controversial Rico Hoye decision loss Griffin said, “I never got the credit for the win over Roy because he got DQ’ed. The scores were close at the time of the stoppage and I believe I would have won if the fight had gone 12.
When I fought Toney in 1995 he was coming off the loss to Roy Jones. I beat him and folks said it was a fluke, so I beat him again the following year.
Against Rico Hoye everyone who watched that fight on Showtime saw what happened. It was a waste of time having to fight him and then not get the title shot against Clinton Woods.”
Said promoter Dominic Pesoli about Griffin, ‘I’m proud to have him on our card on June 20th. He’s been a great fighter for many years and Chicago fight fans are in for a real treat in seeing him fight.”
Headlining FEARLESS is an outstanding bantamweight clash as world ranked Alex Valdez, 20-2-1 (15KO’s), of Ciudad Obregon, Sonora, Mexico battles Accra, Ghana native Anyetei Laryea, 17-4 (8KO’s) over ten rounds. Valdez is currently ranked # 4 by the WBC, #7 by the WBO, # 10 by the IBF and # 15 by WBA.
In the co-main event, Salinas, California super bantamweight Alejandro Perez, 12-0-1 (7KO’s) squares off against Mexico City’s Adolfo Landeros, 17-10-1 (8KO’s) in a scheduled eight rounder.
On the outstanding under card, Chicago favorite Ivan Popoca, 6-0-1 (5KO’s) will face Khristian Geraci, 3-2-1 (2KO’s) in a six round welterweight bout. Also on the undercard, Michigan native Frederico Flores Jr. 4-2 (2KO’s) faces Chicagoan Gustavo Palacios, 2-3 (1KO’s) over four rounds.

“Pito” Cardona out of fight, going in CES Ring of Honor
HARTFOR– Hartford’s popular boxer Israel “Pito” Cardona injured his elbow, forcing him to withdraw from his scheduled June 13th fight against Jason Pires, but promoter Jimmy Burchfield has announced that Cardona will be inducted into the CES Ring of Honor during a special ceremony mid-way through the “Connecticut Conquest” pro boxing card at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford.
Promoter Jimmy Burchfield, president of Classic Entertainment and Sports, Inc. (CES), established the CES Ring of Honor in 2005 in order to pay respect to inductees for their special accomplishments and contributions to New England boxing. Charter members include 5-time world champion Vinny “The Pazmanian Devil” Paz, former WBA and WBC welterweight title-holder Marlon “Magic Man” Starling, and 3-time The Ring Fighter of the Year (2001-2003) participant “Irish” Micky Ward. Other CES Ring of Honor members include former 3-time world champion “El Gallo” Jose Antonio Rivera, world light heavyweight contender “Iceman” John Scully, “Sucra” Ray Oliveira, famed Connecticut trainer Johnny Dukes, and 2008 U.S. Olympian Demetrious “Boo Boo” Andrade. The last inductee was the late, great Rocky Marciano.
“Connecticut Conquest,” promoted by Jimmy Burchfield’s Classic Entertainment and Sports, Inc., (CES) will be taped live and air Saturday, June 14 at 8 PM/ET on CN8,The Comcast Network, as well as Friday, June 20 at 8 PM/ET on Cox Sports Television.
WBC World Youth featherweight champion Matt “Sharp Shooter” Remillard (11-0, 7 KOs), fighting out of nearby Manchester and recently named the NABF Top Prospect of the Year, headlines in his first title defense versus Mexican challenger Jose Magallon in the 10-round main event.
“He is one of the most exciting fighters in modern New England boxing history,” Burchfield spoke about Cardona. “Coming up, ‘Pito’ was a very entertaining television fighter. He has been a tremendous role model to Latinos in the Hartford area, He could also knockout an opponent at anytime, whether he was winning or losing. ‘Pito’ Cardona very much deserves to be in the CES Ring of Honor.”
Cardona (36-9, 28 KOs) most significant victory was a third-round stoppage of “Mighty” Ivan Robinson (23-1) for the USBA lightweight championship. In his previous bout, Robinson had lost the IBF welterweight belt to Philip Holiday and three fights after his loss to Cardona, Ivan beat Arturo “Thunder” Gatti for the first of two times in their 1998 Ring Magazine Fight of the Year.
“Pito,” who also captured the IBO super featherweight and light welterweight titles, as well as the NABF lightweight crown, lost his only major world title fight to undefeated Paul “The Pittsburgh Kid” Spadafora (26-0) won a 12-round decision for the vacant IBF lightweight championship.
“It’s a great honor to be inducted into the CES Ring of Honor and to be considered in the same class as great fighters like Vinny Paz, Jose Antonio Rivera, John Scully, Ray Oliveria and all of the others,” Cardona commented. I wish I was fighting but my left is my weapon and I injured my left elbow. I’m still going to have fun on June 13th and I’ll be supporting by CES teammates in my hometown. I go way back with Jimmy and I thank him for this honor. I hope all of my friends, family and fans will be there supporting me.”
Unbeaten Hartford heavyweight Tony “TNT” Grano (13-0-1, 11 KOs), 2005 U.S. Nationals champion, is in the 8-round co-feature against an opponent to be announced. Former USBA super bantamweight title-holder Pires (20-3, 9 KOs), now a fulltime New Bedford (MA) police officer, returns to the ring in a 6-round junior welterweight bout after a five-year absence.
The newest member of the CES stable, former world middleweight title challenger Kingsley “Sharp Knuckle” Ikeke (23-3, 13 KOs), makes his CES debut in a six-round super middleweight clash. Ikeke is a former NABF, NABO, NBA and WBC FECARBOX middleweight champion.

New Partnership: Trump in Affliction's Corner, Arlovski added to “Affliction Banned” MMA Show July 19 PPV show in Anaheim
MANHATTAN, NEW YORK- Affliction, the premier fashion label for men who love hard rock and fast living, pulled out its Trump card today when the company officially announced its partnership with Donald J. Trump at a press conference held in Trump Tower. It was also announced today that former UFC® heavyweight champion Andrei “The Pitbull” Arlovski has officially signed to fight former IFL® heavyweight title-holder “Big” Ben Rothwell. The match has been added to the already star studded July 19th MMA show on pay-per-view.
“I’m excited about participating in this new promotion with all of these great fighters,” Arlovski called in to say. “I’m looking forward to fighting Ben Rothwell.”
“Affliction Banned” will be headlined by the much-anticipated return of Russian heavyweight superstar and former undisputed PRIDE® champion Fedor “The Last Emperor” Emelianenko (27-1) in association with M-1, against former 2-time UFC® heavyweight title-holder Tim “The Maine-iac” Sylvia (24-4), fighting out of Iowa by way of his native Maine.

In 2005, Arlovski beat Sylvia (SUB1) for the Interim heavyweight title (champion Frank Mir was injured in a motorcycle accident) and Andrei followed with successful Interim title defenses against Justin Eilers (TKO1) and Paul Buentello (KO1). Arlovski was promoted from interim to undisputed heavyweight champion on December 8, 2005 when Mir wasn’t fully recovered from a motorcycle injury. The Belarus-native Arlovski now lives in and fights out of Chicago.

CHICAGO, IL- World Boxing Council Lightweight Champion David Diaz will take a break from training for his title defense against boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao to give the commencement address at Carl Von Linne Elementary School in Chicago on Monday, June 9th.
Diaz is currently training in Chicago for his world title defense against THE MEXICUTIONER set for Saturday, June 28th at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada
Diaz was honored to be asked, "Linne was a terrific school that I graduated from before attending high school. The teachers I had, some of who are still there, were outstanding. I'm honored to be chosen to give the commencement speech and look forward to addressing the eighth grade graduates on Monday."
